The 40mm airburst ammunition can be fired from existing US Army grenade launchers such as the Mk19and MK47.

MK-19 MK-47
The munition uses a programmable timed fuse technology that computes and programs the detonation time into the fuse. Once fired, the fuse counts down to zero detonating at the intended target point.

Delray Beach, Fla. (November 2014) – TPG BLACK, the exclusive line of American-made products offered by Tacprogear (TPG), is proud to announce that their Citadel™ 36 Series hard armor plates have received an exemplary score of 4.96 out of a possible 5 points from the National Tactical Officers Association (NTOA) Member Tested and Recommended Program. TPG has the privilege of displaying the prestigious NTOA Member Tested and Recommended Logo in their marketing materials.
The testing officer, who performed his evaluation of these level III plates in both the TPG BLACK BONZ GRID-HERCULES™ Plate Carrier, as well as in his full-size TAC vest, remarked how “extremely light” the Citadel™ 36 Series were. He evaluated the dual convex shooter’s cut, both front and back.
He continued, “Weighing not even what one older, heavy ceramic plate weighs, [the Citadel™ 36 Series] actually make full TAC gear bearable. The inside face of the plate has about ¼ of soft foam built in under the outside finish. This makes the edges soft and more comfortable if wearing in the stand-alone plate carrier. I wore them around the house and basically forgot they were on, aside from the added bulk…extremely light and comfortable after eight years of 10 lb. ceramic plates!”

NSSF announced a couple of days ago that comedian and former Tonight Show host, Jay Leno, decided to cancelled his appearance at SHOT SHOW 2015 in Las Vegas. Mr. Leno’s office made this statement regarding the untimely cancellation.
“When it came to his attention that this was actually a pro-gun lobby show, he immediately cancelled his appearance,” Bruce Bobbins, spokesman for Leno, told MSNBC. “He found out that it was not what he was originally told it was, and he decided to cancel.”
NSSF organizers issued a statement upon learning of Leno’s cancellation on their blog.
“He unilaterally cancelled his promised appearance due to pressure from the anti-gun lobby, which included false statements about our industry and its commitment to genuine firearms safety, which we attempted to personally correct with him, but to no avail. We are not deterred by their publicity seeking nor are we unfamiliar with the bullying political tactics of the gun control groups that seem to have as little respect for the First Amendment as they continually demonstrate with regard to the Second Amendment,”
The organization did not say who would replace Leno as the emcee.
Jay Leno’s decision to not attend SHOT is unfortunate. He’s a very talented comedian, avid motorcyclist and car collector, I especially like his love for vintage Cadillac’s
Our message to Jay is that SHOT SHOW is not just guns; manufacturers exhibit tents, camping equipment, sleeping bags, nature, trail cameras, hammocks, binoculars and telescopes…
This December, I’ll be bringing you a comprehensive review of Bushnell’s AR Optics 1-4x 24mm Throw Down PCL FFP Illuminated Reticle. I wanted to close out the year with at least one review of a mid priced magnified optic for the AR platform and I chose Bushnell’s optic. Driving that decision was its first focal plane reticle and the illuminated BTR.
I’m a precision rifle oriented guy, and I normally don’t run with FFP scopes because at the lower magnifications you tend to loose the reticle under less than optimal lighting conditions, which is not the case with a second focal plane design. So, I wanted to see how Bushnell’s FFP works out in a 1-4 power optic. I also like the BTR reticle quite a bit and it’s tuned for a 55g and 62g 5.56 x 45. It’s fast and accurate. I will admit that at first glance I felt the throw down PCL was a bit ghetto but after using it a few times I began to appreciate its merits.
Bushnell has done an exceptional job with this optic and I’ll be sharing my impressions with you in my upcoming review, so stay tuned for that.
In the meantime, keep your comments coming; know that they are appreciated.

T.G.I.F. and what a week it was. This Friday’s shoot-the-shit topic is about the U.S. Army’s Modular Handgun System (MHS) or more commonly known as the quest to retire a tried and true venerable veteran, the M9 9mm semiautomatic service pistol.
I’ve taken the liberty to post the solicitation synopsis below; however, if you’d like to read it at the source simply click here.

THIS IS A DRAFT RFP FOR INFORMATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY. PLEASE DO NOT SUBMIT PROPOSALS.
The Army Contracting Command-New Jersey (ACC-NJ), on behalf of Project Manager Soldier Weapons (PM SW) anticipates awarding an Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) Firm-Fixed Price (FFP) Contract to support the Modular Handgun System (MHS). This Full & Open Competition (F&OC) intends to award 3 IDIQ contracts for Production Verification Testing (PVT) units and then down select to one awardee for production units.
The Government is encouraging industry feedback to see if there are cost drivers in various areas that do not add value. Please submit questions via email to Vincent Turco, at vincent.f.turco.civ@mail.mil; and Dan Potempa at: daniel.l.potempa2.civ@mail.mil; not later than Wednesday, 15 October 2014 5:00 PM EST.
The Modular Handgun System (MHS) will consist of a new handgun, ammunition, supporting accessories, and spare parts. The system will consist of a full size and compact handgun or just one handgun that meets full size and compact requirements. The MHS will replace the existing family of handguns in Army inventory, leverage commercial technology to mitigate gaps and shortcomings in presently fielded weapons, and counter current and emerging threats. The MHS is planned as a competitive acquisition seeking a commercial/Non-Developmental Item solution to provide Warfighters with a best-value system that features increased lethality, increased accuracy, improved ergonomics, and a higher degree of reliability/durability over legacy handgun systems. The applicable NAICS codes are: 332994 and 332992.

This announcement should not be construed as a Request for Proposal (RFP) or a commitment by the U.S. Government. The U.S. Government does not intend to award a contract on the basis of this announcement. THIS IS NOT A SOLICITATION AND DOES NOT OBLIGATE THE U.S. GOVERNMENT TO ISSUE A SOLICITATION. The U.S. Government will NOT ACCEPT proposals at this time.
This event is for U.S. Government planning purposes only and constitutes a request for exchange of information pursuant to FAR 15.201.
The Army has established four pillars of performance and those are:
Taking those line item by line item I’ll start with modularity.
Does anyone really know what the U.S. Army envisions Modularity to mean: caliber conversion, different shaped slides, different length barrel, interchangeable fire control group? By Army definition the pistol is a secondary weapon. Better yet, what is it about the M9 and M9A1 that is not modular. The only thing you need on a pistol is a rail system for accessories like lasers and light and maybe a choice of frame sizes.
Moving to Enhanced Precision, the Army is looking for a pistol that will deliver a 4″ group throughout the 35,000 round expected service life of the system 90% of the time. I don’t know of a pistol on the market, from a major company, that does not meet or exceed that requirement COTS, including the Beretta M9 at 25 yards.
So, how would you address the precision issue? Training! Soldiers are not being trained adequately, and by all indications there is a conspicuous absence of sustainment.
Enhanced Recoil Recovery is something that a manufacturer can get his teeth into and there are a number of recoil mitigation strategies already in place, but this is what the Army is looking for:
Regardless of caliber, the pistol needs to be able to come back on target quickly so that soldiers can make rapid and accurate follow-up shots, since handguns are inherently weak compared to rifles.
However, as all pistol shooters know, this is not solely a pistol issue it’s a shooter issue to be addressed through training. Any blowback design has enough mass moving rearward that will cause the muzzle to rise. So, I’m not sure what the Army’s thought process is with this one.
The last point is Ergonomics. Shooting is like running, the gun must fit the shooter’s hands if you want to shoot well, no different than your running shoes, and I see this as an important issue. However, the downside is that it forces the Army into a polymer frame pistol decision. And quite frankly I would not want to go to war with a polymer frame anything. So maybe the solution to the problem is standardize on two or three models offering the desired ergonomics.
My personal experience with the M9
Chime in and share your thoughts with us. This is a shoot-the-shit so anything goes!
Have A Great Weekend Everybody!

I’m not suggesting that you forgo buying the best equipment you can afford. What I am suggesting is that there are excellent alternatives that will satisfy 100% of your needs and still leave you with dollars to allocate to training. Primary Arms’, Micro Dot MD-FBII is but one of several excellent choices for your weapon system. It’s certainly going on our Annual Stocking Stuffer Suggestions and it is worthy of your consideration.
Make 2015 the year when you focus on personal development with training.

Limitless Gear is a Virginia based designer and innovator focused on delivering advanced technologies to the warfighter’s kit.
The company manufactures a magazine carrier that eliminates the need for retention flaps or bungees, as well as the rubber bands used on the ITW FastMag. The company’s OPFOR MC-R is a polymer carrier that uses the same magazine retention mechanism as used on the M4. Extracting a magazine requires only a twist and pull movement. The OPFOR carriers are also stackable.

However, what peaked my interest most is their unique attachment mechanism. There is nothing to thread or pull through PALS webbing, so attaching or removing the magazine carrier is literally a snap.

Parrot, is best known as the makers of the AR.Drone 2.0 smartphone-controlled mini quadcopter. They have recently added a new model that has peaked my interest. The new addition to the Parrot fleet is called “BeBop.” Whereas previous Parrot drones were built for the RC hobbyist market, with a 720p non-stabilized flight camera more for FPV than video recording, BeBop looks ratchets things up another notch bringing serious aerial video capabilities to the market. The most notable features being a unique image stabilization system and the ability, with the right hardware, to pair it with an Oculus Rift.
Its camera features a 180-degree fisheye lens plus a 14-megapixel sensor, allowing it to capture a wider field of view and higher resolution than it needs, so the image can be cropped by onboard software and have an image stabilization algorithm applied. If this sounds like electronic image stabilization (found on many consumer camcorders) that’s because that is exactly what it is. However, BeBop’s electronic image stabilization is a tad more sophisticated than your average home movie camera. It uses an array of sensors to keep track of movement and tell the software which way to “pan-and-scan.” For example, if BeBop gets jolted left, the “window” it crops out of the frame instantly pans right.
The other major feature introduced with the launching of BeBop is the ability to pair its camera with the Oculus Rift. The camera isn’t 3D, so you won’t quite be getting a virtual reality experience. But it does give you a truly first-person means of living your flights. By linking to the Oculus you’ll gain 3D functionality. If 3D is your thing you’ll have to purchase the Skycontroller, an accessory whose primary function is to extend the Wi-Fi range of the mobile device controlling the quadcopter up to 1.2 miles (2 kilometers).
BeBop uses GPS as part of the flight control system, and you can expect it to have similar autopilot features as the AR.Drone 2.0. when paired with the Flight Recorder USB dongle. It uses a 1200mAh battery, which is reported to last around 12 minutes.
M.S.R.P w/o Skycontroller : $499.99
In a net centric battlefield, electronics is as important, if not more so, than soldier protection equipment and the choice of soldier weapon systems. Engagements and battles are won with accurate and timely dissemination of intelligence, command and control and battlefield awareness; as a result, powered “smart” devices now permeate the armed forces and nowhere is that more visible than with ground forces. SOF, Big Army and USMC are increasingly becoming more dependent on electronic devices to meet mission objectives – something that I termed a few years ago as the electrification of the soldier.
To support the increased use of electronics, ground forces are required to carry an increasing number of batteries and the U.S. Army estimates, going forward, a soldier will need to carry 14 lbs. of batteries to support a 72 hour deployment, so the Army has been looking at ways to reduce and /or eliminate that requirement by implementing energy transformation technologies.
Energy transformation is nothing more than converting one form of energy to another. It’s like the hand cranks used during World War I and II to provide electrical power for comms stations and other uses.

The soldier depicted above is both actively and passively engaged in energy transformation. For example, the device worn on his legs is a knee harvester designed and built by Bionic Power Inc, based in British Colombia, Canada. It converts the mechanical energy of a walking soldier to electrical power. Bionic Power, markets the device as the PowerWalk™ M-Series; developed in collaboration with the Canadian Forces and the US Army. It resembles an athletic knee brace and weighs about 850 grams (1.7 lbs.) per leg. With a device on each leg, a user walking at a
comfortable speed generates an average of 12 watts of electricity. At this rate, a little over one hour of walking generates enough electricity to charge four mobile phones. The PowerWalk™ M-Series intelligently adjusts the amount of energy that it harvests as a function of walking speed and terrain, harvesting more energy when available and dialing back energy harvesting when it might be obtrusive.
A second device built by Lightning Pack and marketed as Rucksack Harvester converts the mechanical movement of the pack on the soldiers back as he or she walks or double times to electrical energy. Lightning Pack publishes the following performance criteria.

Avg. Electrical Power |
|
Walking at Relaxed Pace |
12-15 W |

Walking at Hump Pace |

Our friends in Swansboro have been busy and continuing the tradition of making some of the best tactical gear on the planet with the introduction of belt mounted TACOs and a “new” pattern, Woodland Camo – when I saw that I became misty-eyed and nostalgic but yes it is true Woodland is now available.
Now there are a lot of people out there that will tell you Company X’s kit is great blah, blah. Folks the proof is, as they say, in the pudin’ and this is my kit…
I’ll reiterate, High Speed Gear Inc. out of Swansboro, NC produces a superb product.
Candidly, there were quite a few times when I did not want to wear a drop leg arrangement and simply wanted something that will mount on my belt. HSGI heard its customers and introduced product to address the requirement.
HSGI’s entire pouch line now has a belt mount counterpart!
But, I don’t know about the Woodland Camo part of this equation as I have nothing to wear. Well, I may still have a set of BDUs somewhere…
In closing, Christmas is nearly upon us and HSGI is top of the line so pay their new website a visit and do some of your shopping early this year.
If you’re out in the Los Angeles / Ventura area be sure to check out COLD STEEL’s Parking Lot Sale. They have them a couple times a year so it’s an excellent opportunity to pick up some great knives and tools.

When customers answer their first question of which one(s) of the more than 160 Crimson Trace® laser sights or tactical lights to buy for their handgun, their next question often is: “what about a holster?” The good news is that there are a large number of holster options— and those options are growing. Crimson Trace partners with numerous holster suppliers and manufacturers, so when a new product is released to retail outlets, holsters are also readily available for gun owners who purchase the Crimson Trace laser sights and lights.
A good example is the CrossBreed Holster for the Glock 42 with a Crimson Trace Laserguard model LG-443 installed. The holster was readily available on-line as soon as the laser sight was launched to market. Numerous holster manufacturers have made similar product launches.
Today, more than 50 holsters are also readily available on www.crimsontrace.com. The holster options are made from leather, nylon, Kydex, or other synthetic materials. Most models are custom holsters that are adjustable, and some of the holsters can be worn inside or outside the waistband. One holster from BLACKHAWK! will hold a handgun at-the-ready by your bedside.
The holster styles available in the Crimson Trace online store will fit many handguns, including: 1911s, Beretta, Kimber, Kel-Tec, Ruger, Smith & Wesson, Springfield Armory, and others. Some Crimson Trace laser sights are also available in a package that includes the holster.
Finding the perfect holster has never been easier. The Crimson Trace website now permits searching for holsters by firearm manufacturer or by holster manufacturer. The leading holster brands in the industry are represented, such as: BLACKHAWK!, Blade-Tech, CrossBreed, DeSantis, Galco, Mitch Rosen, Tactical Tailor, and others. Retail prices range from $25 to $75. Crimson Trace also offers numerous laser sight and holster combination packages. Most holster manufacturers also sell holsters that accommodate handguns with Crimson Trace laser sights.
Beyond holsters, Crimson Trace has undertaken a new campaign that encourages everyone to ask themselves, “have you done everything in your power to defend yourself and what’s yours?” The rallying words are: “In Condition Crimson™, We Stand.” For more details, visit www.crimsontrace.com or call 800-442-2406. Announcing G-Code Scorpion Series Magazine Carriers
A Variable Compression carry concept … the (patent pending) G-Code Scorpion series mag carriers exceed all expectations and set new standards for the industry.
IWI has done a great job of modernizing this classic. I like the fact that it’s coming to market chambered in 7.6×39. I’ve shot Galil rifles in the past and you definitely needed your Wheaties – it was a heavy rifle and heavy to hump around. The new version comes in at 7.5 pounds without clean and without the magazine.
Bersa is one of the best values in handguns. These are high quality pistols, have a lifetime warranty, and a very attractive price. Most of their guns have been in production for a long time, and are some of the most thoroughly de-bugged guns available. Parts, accessories, magazines, and holsters are all readily available. Many South American Military forces and Police agencies have used these guns trouble free for decades.

This week’s shoot-the-shit is on the 14th comprehensive revision of the national income and product accounts (a.k.a. GDP). GDP, as you all know, is a measure of the output of the economy. Last year, 2013, the Bureau of Economic Analysis, which is part of the U.S. Department of Commerce announced the 14th comprehensive revision to GDP. The revision expands the intellectual property account to include expenditures for research and development (R&D), entertainment, literary, and artistic originals under the assumption they provide long-lasting service to the businesses, nonprofit institutions, and government agencies that use them. Why is this important to know?
First it adds to GDP, and in part accounts for the larger GDP estimates in the 3rd and 4th quarters of 2013 and those throughout 2014. I don’t want to give you the impression that I oppose these changes but I am disappointed that it was not verbalized in the media. In fact, I don’t believe there was any discussion at all. I may be wrong on that, and if so I stand corrected, but, we, as consumers, businessmen and citizens need to understand the change and the corresponding increases in the GDP estimates. These changes will be less important going forward but for 2013 and 2014 they are relevant especially in understanding why we are seeing GDP estimates of 3 and 4 percent yet unemployment is still at 5.8%.
The second important point to get a handle on, because it’s one that impacts a large number of businesses is the treatment of R&D expenses going forward.
Business transactions have a financial treatment and a tax treatment. Currently, the financial accounting treatment of R&D expenses is to recognize 100% of R&D as period expenses. Let’s say that in 2014 you had $1,000,000 of gross income and incurred $350,000 of R&D expenses. Your net income for the accounting period is $650,000. This is the income that would be reflected on your profit and loss statement.
For tax purposes, you can take 100% of all R&D expenses in the current tax year, or you can depreciate R&D expenses over any period of time up to 60 years.
Under the 14th comprehensive revision , a business would have to carry R&D as an asset that would then be depreciated using some formula. Your balance sheet would increase year over year by the amount of continued R&D investment net of current period depreciation. I’m not sure if the Financial Accounting Standards Board has a pronouncement to deal with the change, so I’ll need to research that. However, for tax purposes, it is quite likely that you will lose the ability to deduct 100% of R&D expenses in the tax year incurred. So plan on depreciating accumulated R&D expenses and the associated higher taxable income.
So, here’s the net effect of the change.
Here is my question….
With this change, R&D expenses went from intermediate inputs to output. When companies incur R&D expenses, they do so to produce a product, service or technology that is sold or licensed at some point in time; those are the real outputs of a business. Those outputs are captured in the GDP accounts when they occur. So, adding accumulated R&D balances to intellectual asset accounts in calculating GDP creates, at least in my mind, the potential for distorting income and balance sheet asset valuations. I honestly don’t see a compelling need for this change and quite frankly I’m still trying to digest entertainment and literary works. But, the 14th change is here, so sit down with your accountant, CFO and or comptroller and run it past them just to make sure you understand the implications for your business. It’ll be time well spent!

Have A Great Weekend Everybody!
This artifact recently found in a weapon’s case suggests that older civilizations existed in North America with access to .22lr ammunition.
It is hard to fathom how life was in days where man was able to go to a shooting range and for $3 to $4 fire 50 rounds of .22lr. We believe this specimen to be of FIOCCHI origin that made its way across the oceans from Italy.

Dead Air Armament®, launches the 7.62 Sandman® product line, which includes the Sandman-S®, Sandman-L® and Sandman Ti® models.
Sandman® baffles are constructed from 100 percent Stellite®, more costly than traditional stainless steel, but offering better performance under extreme conditions and usage than Inconel®. Tubes are made from high performance precipitation hardened stainless steel, making the Sandman® series lightweight with no sacrifice on strength.
The 7.62 Sandman-S® delivers performance in a small package. The “S” stands for short, measuring in at 6.8″ in length with a weight of 17.3 oz., making it the perfect cross-over can for 5.56mm, 300BLK and 7.62 platforms.
The QD system features easy one hand removal, in mere seconds, without the wobble or seizing that can often times affect performance. Easy-on-easy-off with minimal point of impact shift or loss of precision.
As an innovative 7.62 design first, the front cap is detachable and features an integrated flash hider. This affords better performance, particularly in low light conditions. The detachable front cap also provides some level of assurance when that “accident at the range” happens and the can gets dropped or abused. The front cap can be replaced trouble free without the need of sending it back for time consuming repairs.
The 7.62 Sandman-L® is designed for those demanding absolute performance in a suppressor. The “L,” or long version, is made and constructed from the same materials used in the “S” version and measures in at 8.9″. It offers true sound reduction of 31dB firing standard 7.62 ammunition. Just like the “S,” the long version uses Dead Air’s industry best QD system for fool-proof quick one handed mounting. The mount features Nitride® finished 17-4 stainless steel construction for the ultimate in durability. The Sandman-L® features a detachable front cap with an integrated flash hider. The whole suppressor gets a Cerakote® finish for ultimate corrosion protection. The Sandman-L® is ideal for a tactical bolt rifle or a .308 AR.
For those demanding the ultimate silence from a precision rifle suppressor, the Sandman Ti® suppressor is it. It features a titanium tube with precision rifle direct threads and detachable front cap specifically designed for the challenging environments faced by law enforcement professionals. The exterior is finished in Cerakote® for ultimate durability.

This is an excerpt from a Veteran’s Day essay, the author is unknown but I’d venture to say of high school age. It communicates feelings that are regrettably absent often superseded by smart devices and network appliances. Patriotism is not exclusive to military service, it’s often a reason for public service or just teaching your children that there is more than self; that God and Country are as much a part of us as one’s self. This Veterans Day take time out of your busy schedule to be a Patriot.
“…Our nation’s veterans pledge their lives to our defense, so that, in their absence, we can continue to live in freedom, and enjoy our time in life. Veterans are separate from our everyday struggles. They represent our country as a whole, people of every belief coming together and standing strong.
They do not pledge themselves to us simply because it is their duty. They have a deep-seated belief that this country is worth fighting for, and they volunteer to be the ones to step forward in its protection. The patriotism in their hearts is what allows everyday life to continue unimpeded; it is how they advance and do what they must for the good of the country as a whole, not just what they would want themselves…”
