The Consummate Self Defense Pistol Is Just Around The Corner–Can You Say Glock 42

The European market has had the opportunity to own a Glock in .380 Auto caliber for a couple of years. Now, I’m happy to announce that it finally made its way to our shores. I am a huge Glock fan, so let’s get that out of the way, right now, but my brand loyalty comes from first hand experience and Glock is unquestionably the “AK47” of the pistol market with regards to reliability and value. Over the years Glocks have gone through very few changes, some cosmetic, some mechanical, but overall remaining a very stable platform. When properly loaded, it goes bang each and every time you pull the trigger; there is no better pistol for home defense, or self defense, than a Glock in any condition, except for nuclear holocausts where SIG and HK reign supreme. I know I risk alienating several manufacturers but facts are facts, and I’m not suggesting that others are inferior.

The new Glock 42 has an unloaded weight of 13.76 oz, 7 round capacity (6 in the magazine + 1 in the pipe), a width of 0.94 inches and overall length of 5.94 inches., so it’s extremely compact; making it an ideal conceal carry pistol especially for the ladies with their smaller hands.

The naysayers are quick to jump all over the .380 Auto caliber calling it inadequate for self defense. So, let me say this to you. The .380 Auto, a.k.a 9mm Kurz, was developed by John Browning in the United States. During WWII German officers carried the famous Walther PPK chambered in 9mm Kurz, and I can assure you that many men and women have fallen to this wimpy round. Furthermore, it is true that other calibers have superior stopping power but self defense is all about shot placement and limiting penetration so that you don’t injure innocent bystanders, like a spouse or kids. A bad shot with a .45ACP or .40 S&W, which have greater stopping power will not stop an assailant. What a .380 Auto gives you is lower recoil for greater weapon control, especially important to the non-professional or casual shooter. Second, the risk of over penetrating your target and striking an unintended target is diminished.

So, if you’ve been thinking about a home protection or conceal carry pistol but have yet to decide be sure to check out the Glock 42. You may also want to get your order in now, because every indication is that they’ll be hard to keep in stock.

MAGPUL Industries Has Announced It’s Moving…

When the State of Colorado passed its restrictive laws prohibiting the manufacture and sale of standard capacity firearm magazines, MAGPUL Industries, a global supplier of high performance rifle magazines and accessories, rightfully made its decision to move its operations. MAGPUL’s management made their intensions known early in 2013.

The law passed Colorado’s Legislature in March 2013, which set MAGPUL’s wheels in motion. Relocating a global company is not as simple as loading up the U-Haul and heading out of town; corporations must consider taxes, incentives, risk mitigation, operating costs, availability of labor, accessibility to markets and other resources before making a decision, so move decisions take month’s to solidify, and the company took a great deal of heat for not making public its decision, even to the extent of suffering accusations that the move was all a hoax.

At last, any move hoax theories can now be put to rest, for good, and replaced by the AK PMAG hoax theory. Just kidding! Our congratulations goes out to Texas, especially Governor Rick Perry and to Wyoming, both of these states are gaining a great company and citizen partner.

Magpul’s Announcement

MAGPUL INDUSTRIES ANNOUNCES PLANS FOR RELOCATION

Company Is Moving Operations to Wyoming and Texas

Magpul Industries announced today that it is relocating its operations to Wyoming and Texas.

The company is relocating manufacturing, distribution and shipping operations to Cheyenne, Wyoming. Magpul is leasing a 58,000 square foot manufacturing and distribution facility during the construction of a 100,000 square foot build-to-suit facility in the Cheyenne Business Parkway. The Wyoming relocation is being completed with support from Governor Matt Mead, the Wyoming Business Council and Cheyenne LEADS.

Magpul is moving its corporate headquarters to Texas. Three North Central Texas sites are under final consideration, and the transition to the Texas headquarters will begin as soon as the facility is selected. The Texas relocation is being accomplished with support from Governor Rick Perry and the Texas Economic Development Corporation.

“Magpul made the decision to relocate in March 2013 and has proceeded on an aggressive but deliberate path” says Doug Smith, Chief Operating Officer for Magpul Industries. “These dual moves will be carried out in a manner that ensures our operations and supply chain will not be interrupted and our loyal customers will not be affected.”

The company began a nationwide search for a new base of operations after legislation was enacted in Colorado that dramatically limits the sale of firearms accessories – the core of Magpul’s business. Magpul plans on initially transitioning 92% of its current workforce outside of Colorado within 12-16 months and will maintain only limited operations in Colorado.

“Moving operations to states that support our culture of individual liberties and personal responsibility is important,” says Richard Fitzpatrick, Chief Executive Officer for Magpul Industries. “This relocation will also improve business operations and logistics as we utilize the strengths of Texas and Wyoming in our expansion.”

About Magpul
Founded in 1999, Magpul was launched to manufacture an innovative device to aid in the manipulation of rifle magazines while reloading under stress. The company’s name comes from the original product called the Magpul. Over the last decade Magpul has continued to grow and develop into additional product areas using much the same mission and process with a focus on innovation, creativity, and efficiency.

U.S. Army Settles on G-Code and SERPA Holsters

The presolicitation, W911QY-13-R-0016, issued on 10 December 2012 sought:

“The improvements sought are increased modularity including a drop-leg configuration, that can be quickly transferred to a hip configuration, as well as the capability to be worn/attached to current Modular Lightweight Load Carrying Equipment (MOLLE), load carriage equipment such as rucksacks and the Tactical Assault Panel (TAP) or on individual body armor such as the Improved Outer Tactical Vest (IOTV) or the Solder Plate Carrier System (SPCS).”

The first awardee is Military Hardware, LLC (623940694), 1940 Dawson St
Wilmington, NC 28403-2331; $49 million under award number W911QY14-D-0002. Military Hardware will be supplying the G-Code system.

The second awardee is Atlantic Diving Supply, Inc. (027079776), 621 Lynnhaven Pkwy Ste 400
Virginia Beach, VA 23452-7448; $24.288 million under award number W911QY14D0001 ADS Inc. will supply the SERPA

We are intimately familiar with both of these holsters and either use them or have reviewed them in the past. We extend our  congratulations to Military Harware, LLc and ADS, Inc. on the awards.

Here’s what the Army will be purchasing for the M9.

G-Code

XST RTI Kydex Holster

The XST holster is a molded Kydex holster. It uses friction and a spring-loaded Kydex hood that releases with thumb pressure as the weapon is unholstered. The XST holster is available for the majority of military side arms with or without accessory rails. The holster is then mounted on G-Code’s RTI wheel.

RTI Wheel

The RTI wheel is mounted on a drop-leg rig, paddle, belt slide, MOLLE adapter. This level of modularity allows for the holster to be mounted in numerous ways as needed by the operator. The RTI system also lends itself extremely well to more than just pistols. For example an M203 holster can be molded and equipped to use the RTI mounting system.

Blackhawk SERPA

18-1173-IMG1

Blackhawk offers two levels of retention, Level 2 and Level 3. The Level 2 system will be supplied. Weapon retention with the SERPA system consists of adjustable friction and the SERPA® Auto Lock™ mechanism. The flexible thigh platform conforms to your leg size and has room for mounting additional accessories like magazine pouch or a flashlight pouch. The system attaches to the operator’s belt using a Y-harness suspension system  that distributes weight evenly and keeps the holster vertical when kneeling.

Mikhail Kalashnikov Is Dead At 94

Mikhail Kalashnikov, Father of the Modern Assault Rifle, has passed at age 94. As a young designer in the Soviet Army, Kalashnikov adapted a number of design features from German and American firearm designs to develop the most successful assault rifle in history. The Kalashnikov patterned rifles are in use across the globe. Its success revolves around the simplicity of the design, which made maintenance easy, enhanced reliability and greatly reduced its cost to manufacture.

Mikhail Kalashnikov was born on 10 November 1919 in the village of Kurya. He was one of 18 children, of whom only six survived. Asked about his development, Mikhail  said “I designed a machine gun for a soldier.” “It was called an Avtomat Kalashnikova, the automatic weapon of Kalashnikov.”  Approximately 100 million AK47 patterned rifles and derivatives have been produced worldwide.

The AK47 was adopted by the Soviet army in 1949 and Senior Sergeant Mikhail Timofeevitch Kalashnikov was awarded the Stalin Prize First Class. It was just one of many awards he was to be given, among them three Orders of Lenin and the Hero of Socialist Labor. A number of firearm manufacturers copied the AK47 more notably the Israeli Galil assault rifle.

One of his regrets has always been the loss of life connected with his invention but it is certain that the young Senior Sergeant revolutionized the modern combat rifle.

Yet Another True Story–The Case Of The Popcorn

It’s always difficult relaying events that stand as vulgar examples of stupidity because you run the risk of sounding one-up; a situation that I avoid whenever possible.  However, it is what it is, so here it goes.

It’s the Holiday Season, Christmas is upon us, and folks are shipping and receiving packages. Last Tuesday, while I was out for my PT period, a woman walks out of her house carrying a good size box loaded with popcorn, vernacular for the styrofoam packing material used by many shippers. She’s getting ready to put the box in the trash but rather than letting the trash container’s lid fall backwards, she decides to prop it open with one arm while attempting to dump the box with the other. Well, she lost control of the box and dumped the popcorn all over the street. Noticing the wind was blowing the popcorn on to people’s yard, she stands there deciding on the next course of action, which should have simply been to rake it up, but instead decides to get in her car and runs over the popcorn to keep it from flying around; even driving on to a curb to get it all!

It’s quite likely that she also votes…

This has been a true story! Happy Holidays!

OPERATION HAWKEYE

1808

On August 6, 2011, the Taliban shot down a CH-47 Chinook helicopter in Afghanistan, call sign Extortion 17, carrying a Special Operations forces (SOF) team of 30 American warriors and a military working dog, along with seven Afghan commandos and a civilian interpreter. All perished in what was the largest single-day loss of life in Operation Enduring Freedom and in the history of U.S. Naval Special Warfare. Will Thomas, a schoolboy from Virginia moved by the courage of the fallen and a commitment to aid their loved ones, launched Operation Hawkeye (OHe) to honor the 8.6.2011 heroes and rally support for their families, through sport. In 2013 he expanded the mission to encompass fallen warriors of all branches of SOF, and to support those left behind in the wake of their passing.

OHe unites the general public with the SOF and basketball communities to close an awareness gap regarding the sacrifices of SOF warriors and needs of their families. The mission honors the fallen, informs others of their heroism, and advances actions that support America’s elite warriors and their families. OHe is not a nonprofit, but rather works closely with and augments the efforts of organizations such as the Navy SEAL Foundation, Air Commando Association Foundation, That Others May Live Foundation, Red Circle Foundation, MARSOC Foundation, and others. The mission also engages key elements of the nation’s basketball community, ranging from youth and high school athletes and coaches to NBA teams and professionals. Other mission team members include enterprises of every scale – from community establishments to national businesses – as well as media figures and writers.

Our Comments on The NSA’s Review Panel Suggestions (Part I)–More To Come

Source: Executive Summary “Liberty and Security in a Changing World”; 12 Dec 2013

With Regards ToSurveillance of US Persons

“With respect to surveillance of US Persons, we recommend a series of significant reforms. Under section 215 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), the government now stores bulk telephony metadata, understood as information that includes the telephone numbers that both originate and receive calls, time of call, and date of call. (Meta-data does not include the content of calls.). We recommend that Congress should end such storage and transition to a system in which such metadata is held privately for the government to query when necessary for national security purposes.”

Our Analysis: Let’s keep in mind that the NSA’s role is to be preemptive in their intelligence assessments – meaning, acts of terror against the homeland or abroad must be detected and deterred before they occur. To be successful the NSA must use whatever means and technologies are, or become, available to map terror networks, or identify operatives directing, training and financing cells or plots. Maintaining a large and inclusive metadata database is critical to tracing and mapping cells operating in the homeland and/or abroad. An intercept or in theater intelligence collection could have linkages that go back 5 or more years, and it’s essential for the NSA to retain metadata for as long as it is feasible so that all linkages can be identified and followed through a complex road map of contacts and communications.

The report describes meta data as the call record and correctly asserts that conversations are not part of what is collected. The authors also recommend that rather than government housing the metadata, it be stored by a third party and available to be accessed by the government as needed. In our view, this is a bad idea.

Metadata is currently used by telecommunications providers for rendering statements, billing and traffic studies. Traffic studies ensure that network planners understand and plan for peak period loads so that adequate capacity and provisions for overflow are incorporated in their physical network designs. Other than statutory requirements, call records are discarded as they serve no purpose once used in the activities mentioned above. Asking a third party or a telecommunications provider to retain metadata, adds to their cost structure and opens the door to further erosion of  individual privacy, as the information held could be used for marketing, or sold to outside parties. Leaving metadata with the NSA is considerably safer from cyber attack,  more cost effective (2 Terra Bytes of storage can be purchased commercially for $69.99) and enhances individual privacy.

The issue can be address with Congressional oversight and regular internal and outside audits.

“We endorse a broad principle for the future: as a general rule and without senior policy review, the government should not be permitted to collect and store mass, undigested, non-public personal information about US persons for the purpose of enabling future queries and data-mining for foreign intelligence purposes.

We endorse new steps to protect American citizens engaged in communications with non-US persons. We recommend important restrictions on the ability of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISC) to compel third parties (such as telephone service providers) to disclose private information to the government. We endorse similar restrictions on the issuance of National Security Letters (by which the Federal Bureau of Investigation now compels individuals and organizations to turn over certain otherwise private records”

Our Analysis: Again we revert to the “preemptive” requirement. Undigested “non-public personal information” is in need of specificity. Without that we end up excluding data points that could reveal a future 9/11. Furthermore, the authors are restricting the NSA from what commercial enterprise presently engages in without ANY oversight (judicial or congressional) and over individual objection. So, it seems ludicrous to deny the NSA ,access to or collecting, authority to the same data currently collected by the business sector. Are we saying that we lack trust in the NSA’s integrity or ability to protect individual privacy and liberty?

We endorse new steps to protect American citizens engaged in communications with non-US persons.” We see this as an admirable goal but we must never allow the United States or individuals with residency or citizen status to become centers of finance, command and control for terror cells or groups by hiding behind a national shield.

Army Gets New Individual First Aid Kit, the IFAK II

WWW.Army.mil reported that soldiers will now be issued a new Individual First Aid Kit or IFAK2. The new, enhanced, kit contains the same treatment supplies as the original kit but adds a second tourniquet CAT, a tactical combat casualty card to annotate what kind of first aid was applied to a wounded soldier, a marker, an eye shield, a rubber seal with a valve for sucking chest wounds, and a strap cutter. Unlike the original IFAK that used a SAW ammo pouch, the IFAK2 has a custom pouch that can be mounted in a variety of places.

The kit is already in Afghanistan in small numbers, as part of a previously initiated limited user evaluation involving 4th Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division, out of Fort Polk, La. In September, units at Fort Bragg, N.C., received the kits through the Rapid Fielding Initiative in advance of their own deployment.

Desert Tactical Arms Will Become Desert Tech

Desert Tactical Arms

Desert Tactical Arms, Salt Lake City, UT will be re-branding to Desert Tech. The move, reflects the company’s expanding focus and direction.

Management’s Letter:

We have some very exiting things happening at Desert Tactical Arms, the evolution of our company has spawned key fundamental changes in our business structure, changes that you will learn about in this letter.  We continue to be very passionate about the products we make.  We are extremely committed to being at the forefront in developing tomorrows weapons technologies.  One of our biggest accomplishments has been the seamless integration between our rifles, accessories, and ammunition.  This means that users no longer have to deal with compatibility problems, sub-par accuracy, or poor performance within their equipment.

We have optimized the rifle system right from the start, this optimization substantially enhances shooter performance, many customers call us to tell us they can shoot like rock stars on their home range now.  But there is still an open variable; a key piece of the puzzle that hasn’t been optimized, it’s the most important piece, the piece that turns a rifle system into a weapon system, and that piece is the shooter.  Our passion to create the perfect system has enlightened us. We wanted to go beyond the equipment, we wanted to empower shooters, to squeeze the absolute best performance out of, not only our rifle systems, but with every firearm they use.  In order to do that we have commissioned a 55,000 acre Training Center with; multipurpose ranges that include pistol, rifle, shotgun, breaching/demolition, rough terrain driving, convoy live fire and maneuver range, unknown sniper range and known sniper ranges, moving target ranges, field-craft courses, and extreme distance sniper ranges.  We have appointed Thomas Alexander as CEO of the Training Center.  Mr. Alexander comes to us with 18 years of experience in military operations as well as government contracting experience.  The hiring of Mr. Alexander allows us to conduct small and large scale military exercises as well as develop the range into a modern and realistic training environment.  We have created a shooters sanctuary, a place where shooters can learn from real professionals, a place where they can hone their skills in all aspects of shooting.

In addition to the new Training Center, and in response to our rapid expansion and growth, we wanted to set a key-stone, a permanent foundation, one that provides vision and purpose, it tells us what we stand for, it tells us what we are here to do.  We are here to create tomorrows weapons.  In order to reaffirm that mission we have created a universal brand, a brand that will unify the firearms, ammunition, and training companies within our group.  The resulting unity will create pioneering synergies that will lead the development of the most advanced equipment, munitions, and training that the world has ever seen.  This new symbol will be a global image that will support and defend freedom for the United States and our Allies.

It is my honor a great privilege to present to you Desert Tech.

… And Our Jackass Of The Year Award Goes To Edward Snowden…

Time’s Person of the Year for 2013 has been announced, and the accolade goes to Pope Francis. We couldn’t agree more.

In keeping with the concept that good cannot exist without evil or white cannot exist without black, we at Twobirds Flying Publication have the Anti Person of the Year that we designate as Jackass of the Year. Our candidates undergo careful scrutiny and selection; in the process we examine numerous factors, which on aggregate boil down to the following question; Does the individual consume more in planetary resources than they contribute? If the answer is yes, they are awarded Twobirds Flying Publication’s Jackass of the Year.

Our 2013 Jackass of the Year goes to Edward Snowden beating out several celebrities, public officials and some members of the media.

Now, here’s an individual so worried that an NSA analyst could discover he was e-mailing pictures of his genitalia that he decided to break the covenants of his security clearance and his employment agreement. He steals classified government property and makes it available to the Guardian and foreign governments. In doing so, he has placed at risk the safety of our institutions and our citizens; along with the lives of British subjects, Spaniards, Italians, Germans or any one else that took an active part in the GWOT.

Furthermore, rather than resign his position, Mr. Snowden continues working as a Booz Allen contractor for the NSA violating cross-domain security to illegally gain access to classified documents; with the intent of making those documents available to the media and foreign powers. Mr. Snowden had every opportunity to pursue his convictions through the Congress of The United States, but instead chose to go to China and now resides in Russia. Were I Vladimir Putin and Dmitry Medvedev, I would toss him out of Russia or confine him where he can get all of the Gray “Goose” he deserves.

Congratulations Mr. Snowden, you are our Jackass of The Year. We at Twobirds Flying prefer the NSA to your phony patriotism and desire for liberty.

Leupold & Stevens To Debut The TS-32X1 Reticle At SHOT SHOW

Leupold-Stevens-TS-32X1-Reticle

Leupold & Stevens has announced a new reticle that looks really interesting, the TS-32X1 MOA based reticle. This new reticle allows for a precise holdover and wind correction without the need to adjust your turrets. The TS-32X1 has 32 MOA of elevation holdover points and 16 MOA of wind right or left. Elevation holdovers can be precisely determined in one MOA increments and wind in 2 MOA increments. The reticle is currently available for most second (rear) focal plane VX®-3, VX-III, Vari-X® III and Mark 4® 4.5-14 LR/T® riflescopes.

Existing riflescopes can be retrofitted for $159.99 through the Leupold Custom Shop. To add the TS-32X1 to a new riflescope ordered through the Custom Shop is $129.99.

Let Me Turn You On To Liberty Ammo

Total ammunition performance is the sum of bullet geometry, composition, velocity and accuracy. We look to external ballistics and we look to terminal ballistics. For defensive purposes we want to limit penetration for safety, have a high degree of fragmentation to create a large wound cavity and high velocity to deliver a large amount of kinetic energy.

Kinetic energy is equal to the mass of the projectile times its velocity squared, divided by two, or in formula view k=mv2/2. To increase kinetic energy we have two options, increase mass and/or increase velocity; increasing these variables will also influence chamber pressure. To maximize kinetic energy yet keep chamber pressure at a manageable level, manufacturers will reduce projectile mass but increase projectile velocity. A simple evaluation of the equation shows that a change in velocity has a squared effect whereas mass does not.

Liberty Ammo loads have some of the highest velocities available on the market. Their 9mm round, for example, produces more than 2000 feet per second; generating 450 foot pounds of energy from a 50gr bullet. Its high velocity combined with bullet weight and its copper monolithic design increases fragmentation producing devastating terminal performance.

Liberty’s revolutionary designs have resulted in the Company becoming the leading patent holder of Military small arms ammunition issued over the past 5 years.   The technologies transform small arms warfare with double the effective range and triple the terminal effects, with improved accuracy, and penetration.

Check Liberty Ammo Out, their ammunition is high quality, high performance and it is available in quantity.

300 AAC Blackout, created by Advanced Armament Corp. and Remington Arms®, is a reliable 30-caliber solution for the AR-15 platform that uses existing 5.56mm magazines for a full 30 round capacity. The highly-efficient cartridge can change between standard full power ammunition and quiet-when-suppressed subsonic loads without any adjustments needed to the firearm. 300 BLK has as much energy from a 9 inch barrel as 5.56mm does from a 14.5 inch barrel, all while having less flash, blast, and noise.

Even from a 9 inch barrel, 300 BLK with Barnes® ammunition expands to more than 50 caliber and penetrates 20 inches of 10% ballistic gelatin at 300 yards. Being 30 caliber, 300 BLK is less effected by obstacles, such as automobile glass, than 5.56mm. The gain in frontal area from 5.56mm to 30 cal is 89.1% – even more of a boost than the 60.7% size advantage that 45 Auto has over 9mm. 300 BLK is a SAAMI standard cartridge that is supported by over 150 companies.

U.S. Army Restructuring Calls For Termination of Paratrooper Status For Some.

The 5th Battalion, 101st Combat Aviation Brigade of the 101st Airborne Division, and the 508th Infantry Regiment will be making their final jumps soon as the U.S. Army wrestles with budget cuts. Both Pathfinders and Red Devils, two units with extraordinary histories, will see paratrooper status come to an end. Both units, who parachuted behind Nazi lines during WWII to hand Adolf Hitler his defeat, are closing out long histories as a result of the U.S. Army’s reconfiguration and budget cutting. Among the changes being made is a reduction in the number of parachute positions across the service.

Lt. Col. Don Peters, the team chief for Operations, Intelligence and Logistics with Army Public Affairs, told the AP reductions are in part due to shrinking budgets and to reach the maximum number of paratrooper billets to 49,000. Peters said 24 units accounting for 2,600 soldiers across the country were removed from jump status. That includes 12 units with the 18th Airborne Corps and the 82nd Airborne at Fort Bragg, N.C., and the Company F (Pathfinder), 4th Battalion, 101st Aviation Regiment, 159th Aviation Brigade at Fort Campbell, Ky.

Ten, plus years of combat operations in Iraq and Afghanistan has built an invaluable level of experience that will be costly and time consuming to replace, but all things must change.

Parabellum Armament Ready To Launch Its Ratchet Charging System (RCS) For The AK Pattern Rifle.

Parabellum Armament Co. LLC , Grove City, Ohio took to task bringing the AK pattern rifle into the 21st Century. They initially tackled solving the problem of adding a Picatinny rail to the AK that could hold zero; one that placed the optic back and closer to the shooter. The highly successful AK Adaptive Rail System or AKARS sold for $129.99 and soon became part of AK builds and field upgrades.

Their second step is production of the Ratchet Charging System or RCS, which will make its debut at SHOT SHOW 2014. The RCS, replaces the standard AK gas tube, and in the process provides a left side forward mounted non-reciprocating charging handle with true bolt hold-open. My last discussion with Parabellum Armament in regards to its RCS was early 2013 and at the time M.S.R.P. was expected to come in at the $160 to $170 point. We’ll have to wait and see what the actual selling price will be.

ARSENAL Inc. Releases the SM-13 Optics Mount

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

ARSENAL Inc. has announce the release of their new optic mount the SM-13. Some of the unique characteristics include a low profile that wraps around the receiver dust cover placing the optic directly above the bore centerline while keeping the traditional AK pattern side-mount. The SM-13 provides 7.5 inches of continuous Picatinny rail.

M.S.R.P $129.99

ARSENAL GOALS & DESIGN OBJECTIVES

  1. To come up with a light-weight, precision, and highly rigid scope mount platform for military application: The one-piece CNC precision machined SM-13 is manufactured from aircraft grade aluminum alloy for the minimum weight (only 5.76 ounces) and maximum strength.
  2. To have the maximum-length Picatinny railing system for attaching top mounted devices, such as scopes, red dot systems, night visions, and magnifiers: The over-7.5-inches-long Picatinny rail that runs along the rifle, from the end of the top cover to the rear sight leaf, allows for attaching multiple devices at the same time or one device for the maximum eye relief.
  3. To have the lowest profile that adds the minimum to the bulk of the rifle and allows the use of iron sights while the mount is installed: The SM-13 follows the contour of the rifle closely. The absolute low profile and the relief cut along the rail allow the use of the iron sights even when the scope mount is attached to the rifle.
  4. To have a quick-release attaching mechanism that provides the maximum stability and consistency: The SM-13 utilizes the time-proven steel adjustable locking mechanism that allows instantaneous attachment and release of the scope mount without any compromise to the accuracy and loss of zero. Unlike some other mounts that attach to unstable top covers or gas tubes, the SM-13 attaches to the side scope rail of an AK variant rifle, which provides the most stable attaching platform on the rifle.

Arsenal Firearms Will Begin Shipping A Double-Barreled 1911 in December.

Arsenal Firearms gained distinction among 1911 aficionados when the company introduced its revolutionary double-barreled 1911 at Shot Show 2013.  Designated AF2011-A1 Second Century this pistol is truly a work of art; retaining the simplicity of two side-by-side 1911 pistols. There’s little doubt in my mind that Browning is smiling. I had the opportunity for a close look at Arsenal Firearms’ Second Century and have to admit that after having an opportunity to digest its radical concept, the actual firearm was impressive indeed.

The Italian manufacturer has been selling Second Century pistols in Italy and the rest of the EU but was restricted from exporting outside of the EU. Changes in existing regulations appear to have resolved that issue and the company expects to start shipping product this month. Second Century and Strike One will be imported through EAA Corporation of Cocoa, Florida.
