Shoot Farther and More Accurately with Ballistic

Taking a truly long shot requires more than just steady aim. Regardless of skill level, long-distance shooting requires understanding of ballistics, wind, bullet drop, velocity and more.

Today’s military snipers are experts at determining these factors, as shown by the recent 2.2-mile shot made by a Canadian in Iraq. However, did you know that even the world’s best snipers use computer technology to help them calculate shots.

Ballistic calculates the many factors of shooting, such as wind, atmospheric conditions, ballistic coefficient, drift and drop. In fact, Ballistic has a load library containing information on more than 5,300 projectiles, factory loads, military loads and performance data from manufacturers, military testing and performance analysis.

Users can choose their load from this library or even input data from handloads to determine hold on targets. It can also be used to calculate atmospheric conditions, such as barometric pressure, elevation, temperature and more, either by inputting known data or by having Ballistic pull the information from the nearest weather station for both the conditions for when the gun was sighted, as well as conditions for the current location using GPS. Ballistic even has a feature for determining the wind for formulating bullet drift, as well as target movement.

Ballistic graphically displays energy, velocity and drop for current projectiles and even allows comparison for up to eight other projectiles on the same screen.

Ballistic uses the JBM Ballistics Engine, which is one of the most accurate ballistic calculators in existence, and provides that information in a user-friendly format for shooters of all skill levels. Ballistic provides everything needed for shooters to get serious about their shots.

U.S. Coast Guard Awards Morphix Technologies as the Sole Supplier of Chameleon Chemical Detection Cassettes

The U.S. Coast Guard now has improved capability with the addition of two Chameleon cassettes to its previous custom HazMat kit of eight Chameleon cassettes.

Virginia Beach, Va. (August 2017) – Morphix Technologies, an innovator in the science of detection devices for dangerous chemicals, announces its most recent contract award: to be the sole supplier for the U.S. Coast Guard’s custom Chameleon HAZMAT Refill Cassette Kits. Morphix is the current supplier of the U.S. Coast Guard’s inventory of over 6,000 Chameleon Chemical Detection Armbands.

This new contract will allow Morphix Technologies’ to provide increased capability with the Chameleon HazMat Refill Kit containing Chameleon cassettes for 10 hazardous chemicals rather than eight. The CBRNe branch has articulated that with each mission, USCG personnel enter unknown areas with absolutely no idea what type of dangers they may encounter. This additional detection capability will help keep themselves and those they serve safer.

The Chameleon Chemical Detection Armband is an easy-to-use, inexpensive, wearable, reusable armband that can hold up to 10 one-time-use, disposable

cassettes. Each cassette detects a particular toxic chemical or class of chemicals and changes colors upon detection of the chemical agent. The Chameleon Chemical Detection Armband has been approved by the U.S. SAFETY Act of the Department of Homeland Security as an anti-terrorist technology.

“We are so very grateful for the opportunity to continue to provide the Chameleon to the United States Coast Guard. The increased capability with the additional cassettes provides even greater safety to those that serve and protect us,” said Kimberly Pricenski, VP of sales and marketing for Morphix Technologies.

If you’d like to receive more information on the Chameleon Chemical Detection Kit, please contact Morphix Technologies toll-free at 800-808-2234 or locally at 757-431-2260. You can also email sales@morphtec.com.

Hogue Announces HandALL Beavertail Grip to Fit S&W Bodyguard 380 & Taurus TCP/Spectrum Models

HOGUE INC EXPANDS THEIR HANDALL BEAVERTAIL GRIP SLEEVE LINE TO INCLUDE A MODEL THAT FITS THE S&W BODYGUARD 380, TAURUS TCP & SPECTRUM

Henderson, NV – Hogue Incorporated is proud to announce the newest addition to their line of Beavertail™ HandALL® Grip Sleeves with a model precisely designed to fit Smith & Wesson’s Bodyguard 380 and Taurus’ TCP or Spectrum. “We are continuing to expand our line of sleeves for compact pistols because of high customer demand,” said grip designer Matt Hogue. “Creating Beavertail Grip Sleeves that seamlessly work with smaller frames while adding comfort and a precision fit has proven to be a very popular solution.”

The Beavertail Grip Sleeve is installed by slipping it over the firearm’s grip frame until it seats perfectly into position. The sleeve is precision manufactured to offer a more secure and comfortable fit. Once installed, the HandALL sleeve provides a single finger groove for instinctive handling and control of the firearm. The finger groove leads into a gentle palm swell that has been carefully designed to fit naturally in the hand. The beavertail built into the grip sleeve rises high along the backstrap of the frame. This provides full rubber contact with the hand allowing a higher hand-placement on the grip. In addition to protection and comfort, the beavertail also cushions the hand during recoil by providing better distribution of recoil forces. The built-in
features of the grip sleeve provide comfort and confidence which in turn promotes accuracy.

The HandALL is built from a long-lasting durable thermoplastic elastomer compound. This rubber ages very gracefully and keeps a firm, tacky feel throughout the life of the grip. It will not harden, split or crack with age or usage. The surface is covered with Hogue’s familiar Cobblestone™ texture, a series of small circular bumps that provide an efficient non-slip, non-irritating grip on the rubber. This model of HandALL Beavertail Grip Sleeves has an MSRP of $9.95 for black, and $10.95 for OD green, flat dark earth, aqua, pink and purple.

Hogue Grip Sleeves are manufactured in their family-owned and operated facilities under the direct supervision of the Hogue family. Hogue, Inc. supports local dealers and encourages customers to purchase Hogue products locally. For more information please call Hogue directly at 1-800-438-4747 or visit www.hogueinc.com to find a Hogue dealer near you.

U.S. Army Interim Combat Service Rifle (ICSR) Solicitation

I hope everyone had a good week. If you are in the bomb shelter business life is good right now. Speaking of shelters, have you seen what some of these cat houses look like –  home theater, wet bar, etc. Send it Pyongyang! Well, in any event keep your sweat pumps in low speed.

So, it’s time for our Friday shoot the shit. This is a no charge event that encourages readers to make unsupported statements, use uncensored profanity, insult anyone you wish or change the subject altogether, and a good Friday shoot the shit will save you from having to pay $150 an hour to a jackass who’s only reason for studying psychology was to understand themselves.

Image result for M80A1 Enhanced PerformanceThis week we are going to talk about the U.S. Army solicitation W15QKN-17-Z-0ANP posted on 04 Aug 2017 for something the Army calls Interim Combat Service Rifle (ICSR). So what is the ICSR? In its simplest terms, it is a 7.62 x 51 platform capable of firing the M80A1 Enhanced Performance Round (EPR). The ultimate goal is to enhance soldier lethality. So it appears that the lethality issue still lingers even after the M855A1 enhanced 5.56 x 45 round.

I have to admit to being a bit befuddled. Is the Army looking to replace the venerable M4 with a 7.62 carbine, or are they looking for an improved DMR platform, which would make a great deal of sense.

Is the Army abandoning the weight reduction initiative? A 7.62 platform is considerably heavier loaded and accessorized with optics and lighting. How about the weight of the ammunition itself? Is the Army going to reduce the combat ammunition load?

There are all kinds of questions that come to mind. We have ground forces already humping 100+ lbs. , so in all candor this isn’t making a great deal of sense to me.

668965_02_fn_herstal_five_seven_5_7x28_p_640In the background statement there’s mention of defeating body armor. It is generally accepted that a fast small round is more effective at defeating body armor than a slower, larger heavier one. A perfect example is FN’s SS190.

So what is the Army trying to achieve? Will this be another M4 replacement fiasco?

Let us know what you think!

Have a great weekend and by all means stay out of the heat. Spend some quality time with your buds and family in your new shelter. Just kidding folks.

Chromatra LLC Sponsors and Exhibits at the 12th Annual Connecticut SWAT Challenge, Aug. 22 – 24, 2017

Chromatra, innovators in night vision technologies, will be showing the ColorTAC CVA-14 Color Night Vision Adaptor at Booth #218.

Beverly, Massachusetts (August 2017) – Chromatra, LLC, the innovator behind the design and manufacture of color capable night vision, will participate in the Connecticut Swat Challenge being held Aug. 22 – 24, 2017. Chromatra, a Team Leader Level Sponsor will unveil its new product, the ColorTAC CVA-14, during vendor hours. This affordable clip-on technology allows night vision users to see color through any existing PVS-14 device.

Commencing in 2005, the West Hartford Police Department SWAT team hosted the first New England area SWAT Challenge to provide an opportunity for SWAT operators to participate in SWAT training and various competitions. Since then, the CT SWAT Challenge has grown from an initial 16 teams representing 27 towns and cities (as well as the U.S. Army and CT State Police), to an unprecedented 38 teams and 150 vendors participating in 2016. The event provides participants with opportunities to demonstrate their skill set in tactics, training, helicopter operations, firearms, teamwork, explosives and more and includes dynamic classroom opportunities from some of the top trainers in their fields.

Chromatra, LLC was established in 2014 and is the first company to develop and produce the ColorTAC technology. When used in conjunction with a PVS-14, the most common NVG device used by military and law enforcement agencies today, ColorTAC provides the user with essential color-coded information. Some of the benefits that ColorTAC can provide are improved:

  • SUSPECT/TARGET IDENTIFICATION
  • TERRAIN AND MOBILITY IDENTIFICATION
  • SEARCH AND RESCUE OPERATIONS
  • MEDICAL TRIAGE (ABILITY TO ASCERTAIN BLOOD FROM WATER)
  • SURVEILLANCE AND PERIMETER SECURITY
  • NAVIGATION OF DARK LOCATIONS
  • IDENTIFICATION OF TACTICAL LASERS, STROBE AND MARITIME LIGHTS

ColorTAC units are light-weight and were designed to operate in extreme environments. The affordable units fold up quickly and compactly and take just seconds to attach to any existing PVS-14.

For those who rely on NVG’s to perform their mission, the ability to “See What’s Missing” can mean the difference between life and death. Portrayed below are before and after photographs comparing the monochromatic green image seen through a PVS-14 compared to a PVS-14 with the ColorTAC CVA-14 color adapter attached.

World’s Deadliest 12 Gauge Round

Winder, GA, August 9, 2017, G2 Research’s NEW extreme performance self-defense 12 gauge round.

In development for over three years by G2 Research this new high-performance 12 gauge self-defense round will hit the market this Fall. The all brass 303-grain individually machined CNC slug is designed for incredible performance against soft targets.

First of all the G2 slug is 0.725-inch in diameter (about a quarter inch larger than a .50 cal. Bullet). When combined with the proven G2 Research R.I.P. technology which releases six trocars (large metal petals) into the target the result is incredible and instant devastation.

Upon impact the six trocars will open, detach and independently spread through the target some 6-inches wide delivering 9-11 inches of penetration resulting in massive damage and shock. The .70 caliber base of the slug will continue forward for another 5-6 inches.

Recoil is greatly reduced due to the lightweight all brass 303 grain slug.

The $49.99 price for five-rounds is painful but this is not intended for shooting at tin cans and cinder blocks. The typical scenario is the average person will go to the range and launch a round or two at a target of some type and load the remainder into their gun for the time should the need arise.

Mike Nickerson, G2’s marketing director says–“This 12 gauge round is very specific in its design and mission; that of a person defending his life and/or that of his family. The real question is how much value we put on put on our own life or that of those we are protecting.”

Specifications:

  • 12 gauge
  • 0.725-inch diameter 303 grain all brass precision CNC machined slug
  • 1430 FPS velocity depending on barrel length, etc.
  • Effective performance design range 0-10 yards
  • MSRP $49.99 box of five

IMPORTANT NOTES: This round is designed for self-defense only and has a true effective performance expansion range of 10 yards. Several reasons for this: Much beyond that range the slug will begin to yaw which can affect correct strike angle for it to open as designed. Beyond the design distance of 10 yards it will still do massive damage however.

Second, it is not designed to be used for hunting, sporting or barrier penetration–it is designed for self-defense. Self-defense means just that and it is difficult to convince a jury that self-defense much past 30 feet really is self-defense.

Will it penetrate hard objects such as doors, walls, etc.? Of course but it may not expand as designed and, shooting through doors and walls presents a difficult legal case of self-defense in court.

This round must NOT be fired in guns with rifling, compensators, chokes or modified barrel cylinders, etc. The only type of barrel safely used is a modern smooth bore riot type shotgun barrel.

Steyr Arms Celebrates 40 Years of the AUG with the Anniversary Edition STG 77

BESSEMER, Ala. (Aug. 7, 2017) — Designed in 1977 and introduced the following year, the legendary short-stroke, gas-piston-operated Steyr AUG was immediately adopted as the standard battle rifle of the Austrian Army under the StG.77 (Sturmgewehr 77) name. To commemorate the 40th anniversary of the AUG, Steyr Arms has gone retro with the introduction of the STG 77 SA rifle, a limited-edition version that emulates the look, feel and operation of the original AUG.

The STG 77 is the first U.S.-built production AUG variant to come standard with a 20-inch barrel. The barrels are cold-hammer forged and profiled to the original 1977 specifications, and at the muzzle is a tulip-style brake with the original “hex” check nut. But the most noticeable feature of the STG 77 is the sleek, integrated, original-profile 1.5X scope, which has been much sought after by AUG purists in the U.S. This optic is extremely clear, sharp and bright, despite its smaller diameter. The scope features the popular circle-dot reticle, but unlike the original optic that required a special tool to adjust the windage and elevation, the STG 77 reticle can be adjusted with a coin. Integrated to the top of the scope housing is a set of three-dot post-and-notch backup sights.

In order to replicate the original AUG as closely as possible, Steyr designed the STG 77 without any rails; however, the scope can be removed and replaced with any of the five standard Steyr Picatinny rails currently available for the AUG A3 M1. The hard-anodized aluminum receiver is smooth on the right side, and on the left side is an A1 charging handle, complete with the forward-assist button at its top rear. Much like the original AUG that lacked the bolt release now standard on current versions, the STG 77 charging handle is used to overcome the internal bolt hold open on the A1 trigger pack.

Also in keeping with the original color scheme, the STG 77 features OD Green furniture with a stock that accepts Steyr’s proprietary translucent magazines. The Steyr “bullseye” logo is laser engraved on the right side of the stock along with “STG77 40th Anniversary.” One AUG 30-round magazine with a matching OD Green floorplate is included with each rifle. The few internal improvements that have been made to the AUG over the last 40 years, such as the upgraded firing pin parts, are included in the STG 77. The rifle also features a QD sling swivel on the front of the receiver, whereas the original sling swivel was pinned in place.

The first batch of the 40th Anniversary STG 77 rifles has already shipped to dealers and distributors, and Steyr is limiting rifle production only through the remainder of 2017. The suggested retail of the STG 77 SA is $2,625.

SIG SAUER Issues Voluntary Upgrade of P320 Pistol

P320 pistol meets requirements for industry and government safety standards;
performance enhancements optimize function, safety, and reliability.

Newington, NH (August 8, 2017) – The P320 meets U.S. standards for safety, including the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) / Sporting Arms Ammunition Manufacturers’ Institute, Inc. (SAAMI®), National Institute of Justice (NIJ), as well as rigorous testing protocols for global military and law enforcement agencies.

The design of the SIG SAUER P320 overcomes the most significant safety concern in striker-fired pistols today: the practice of pressing the trigger for disassembly. This can be performed with a round in the chamber which has resulted in numerous incidents of property damage, physical injury, and death. The disassembly process of the P320, however, uses a take-down lever rather than pressing the trigger, eliminating the possibility of discharge during the disassembly process.

Recent events indicate that dropping the P320 beyond U.S. standards for safety may cause an unintentional discharge.

As a result of input from law enforcement, government and military customers, SIG has developed a number of enhancements in function, reliability, and overall safety including drop performance. SIG SAUER is offering these enhancements to its customers. Details of this program will be available at sigsauer.com on Monday, August 14, 2017.

The M17 variant of the P320, selected by the U.S. government as the U.S. Army’s Modular Handgun System (MHS), is not affected by the Voluntary Upgrade.

“SIG SAUER is committed to our approach on innovation, optimization, and performance, ensuring we produce the finest possible products,” said Ron Cohen, President and CEO of SIG SAUER. “Durability, reliability and safety, as well as end-user confidence in the SIG SAUER brand are the priorities for our team.”

STREAMLIGHT BANDIT THE SECOND BEST LIGHTING ACCESSORY YOU CAN GET

20170805_153259

You may recall my review of Streamlight’s Keymate USB in which I marveled at its simplicity and utility. It’s my first choice for best lighting accessory you can get. I mean that sincerely, if you haven’t purchased a Keymate USB yet, do so, you can thank me later.

Now comes the second best lighting accessory you can get from Streamlight, the BANDIT. This is a micro headlamp so well thought out that you’ll wonder why someone hadn’t thought of it before. This little lamp is light, cool and just bright enough to make it very useful when working on the family vehicle, or anywhere, for that matter, where directed hands-free illumination is required.

I’ve got a mini review coming mid August but I’m going to spill the beans – I love this thing!

SIG SAUER Reaffirms Safety of P320 Pistol

jpeg

Striker-fired pistol exceeds safety standards of ANSI/SAAMI® and U.S. military testing

Newington, NH (August 4, 2017) – In response to social media rumors questioning the safety of the P320 pistol, a variant of which was selected by the U.S. government as the U.S. Army’s Modular Handgun System (MHS), SIG SAUER, Inc. has full confidence in the reliability, durability and safety of its striker-fired handgun platform. There have been zero (0) reported drop-related P320 incidents in the U.S. commercial market, with hundreds of thousands of guns delivered to date.

The P320 meets and exceeds all U.S. standards for safety, including the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers’ Institute, Inc. (SAAMI), as well as rigorous testing protocols for global military and law enforcement agencies.

All SIG SAUER pistols incorporate effective mechanical safeties to ensure they only fire when the trigger is pressed. However, like any mechanical device, exposure to acute conditions (e.g. shock, vibration, heavy or repeated drops) may have a negative effect on these safety mechanisms and cause them to not work as designed. This language is common to owner’s manuals of major handgun manufacturers.

As a result, individual attempts to perform drop tests outside of professionally controlled environments should not be attempted.

“SIG SAUER is committed to producing only the finest products,” said Ron Cohen, President and CEO of SIG SAUER. “Safety and reliability have been and always will be paramount to the SIG SAUER brand.”

Nothing In Particular

TGIF readers, we made it through another week. I hope you’ve all had a productive week. You’ve guessed it, it’s time for our Friday shoot the shit. I have to ask our readers for a small favor. We always strive to be informative in an informal way, but please don’t ask us to shoot the shit on questions like “can women ventilate themselves?” Please folks really…

Tactical PiroshkyThis week we’d like to announce that we’ve awarded two Tactical Pirozhki, to date. The first went to WH Deputy Adviser, Dr. Sebastian Gorka, citing his flogging of CNN’s Anderson Cooper during a 13 Jul interview. The second went to WH Senior Adviser Stephen Miller citing the thrashing he elegantly placed on CNN’s Jim Acosta. Mr. Acosta seems to be under the impression that only people from the U.K. and Australia speak English. Really Jim? Well done Dr. Gorka and Mr. Miller.

We’ve also put together a illustrated flow chart of Congressional achievements year to date 2017.

Year to date

There’s so much going on that’s worthy of a good shoot the shit that it’s hard to drill down on something. So, while I sit here thinking, let me suggest you take in “Atomic Blond”, it’s a great flick  set in East Berlin during the last days of the Cold War; particularly relevant since we are getting ready to start another one.

Meanwhile, Mini-me in Pyongyang is continuing to test ICBMs. This is a problem that won’t be going away any time soon for the following reasons.

  1. Any expectation that the Chinese will pressure North Korea to cease and desist is naïve. NK is China’s proxy to ensure the United States does not gain a greater presence in Asia Pacific.  I’ll go as far as to say that China, who is cranking out warships at an alarming rate, wants to push the U.S. out of the Korean Peninsula, Japan and out of Asia Pacific in total.

  2. Presently, North Korea has a hostage, South Korea. Although, it gives them some leverage, it pales to the leverage NK would have if they could hold Japan, Australia and New Zealand hostage.

  3. Once they achieve that goal, the Chinese, working through  Pyongyang, will be positioned strategically to deny Asia Pacific to the United States.

  4. NK knows that a preemptive strike on their part would assure the annihilation of NK. What they’re looking for is a Mexican standoff of biblical proportions with more at risk than just South Korea.

  5. Lastly, Pyongyang will quite likely become a purveyor of nuclear warheads and delivery systems to Iran and possibly Syria (although Syria owes its existence to Russia).

What do you think should be done about North Korea?

Let us hear from you if the mood hits you and have a great weekend!

Trailblazer Firearms: Setting a New Paradigm in Firearms

Nestled in the hills of North Carolina, a new firearms start-up launches LifeCard®, a truly innovative .22 LR in a super-compact, no-snag design that folds to the size of a credit card.
Asheville, N.C. (August 2017) As far as business start-ups in the firearms industry go,Trailblazer® Firearms is taking a different path. The newly formed company, headquartered in Asheville, North Carolina, is proud to announce the launch of their first firearm, LifeCard®, “the last gun you’ll leave behind.”

LifeCard® is a .22 LR single-action, single-shot folding pistol, no bigger than a credit card when folded. The sleek, no-snag designed pistol’s frame and grip handle is constructed from fully-machined aluminum billet and hard-coat black anodized. The tilt-up barrel, bolt and trigger are made of steel with an Isonite® finish for corrosion resistance.

“Trailblazer Firearms fully intends to spearhead innovative new firearms products starting with the LifeCard®, available later this month,” Aaron Voigt, President of Trailblazer Firearms, explained “New designs and true innovation have been the exception and our goal is to be the pioneer laying new trails for gun enthusiasts, designers and manufacturers.”

Voigt, one of six kids, was raised to love the outdoors and respect the American tradition of firearms and hunting in the mountains near Asheville, North Carolina. At 18 he joined the USMC Reserve, M Battery, 14th Marine Regiment in Chattanooga, Tennessee and rose to the rank of Lance Corporal. In the early 1990’s, Voigt transferred inter-service to the Army for active duty and was deployed to Kuwait and advanced to Specialist E-4. After a stint in South Korea, Voigt separated from the military and returned his family to his beloved mountains where he shifted careers.

Always the gun enthusiast, in 2010 Voigt hit upon an idea of a unique pistol. The idea slowly became a dream and a long drawn out reality as Voigt tackled the jungle of patents, trademarks, prototyping, machining, licensing, marketing and more. Now, seven years later, the dream that started as a sketch on a piece of paper can be held in the hand, aimed down range and fired.

“Initially, I had no idea that going from concept to actual product would take seven years, but in essence, that time spent was valuable and will show in every aspect of this remarkable product. I am looking forward to putting this pistol on the market and can’t thank my family and friends enough for all the support and patience,” Voigt said. “We expect product to hit our distributors, Ellett Brothers and Jerry’s Sport Center, in about three weeks. We look forward to the feedback from our customers regarding our initial product offering and look forward to continually innovating new products.”

Beltfeed High-Capacity Magazine Pouches

Comp-Tac Victory Gear, LLC, Houston, TX, August 1, 2017 -Comp-Tac’s Beltfeed magazine pouches are engineered for even greater efficiency. Now shooters can carry their magazines with the cartridges facing either rear or front and still have fully adjustable pull speed and magazine retention, but wait–there’s more.*

Internationally famous for their holster line Comp-Tac’s Beltfeed magazine pouch system is a one of a kind product.

Each Beltfeed unit is made up of four magazine pouches. The Beltfeed system staggers pouch position on the wearer’s belt so more magazines can be carried in the same real estate on the shooter’s belt. The unique Beltfeed pouch staggering is a valuable feature for those having smaller waist measurements such as junior shooters and slighter built people.

Each pouch can be individually adjusted for precise removal tension which is a huge advantage in competition and helpful for LEO and civilian carry. The Beltfeed can service either right-hand or left-hand shooter’s belt position.

Another significant no look and fumble free benefit is how the staggering (side to side and height) allows for much faster access to the magazines for critically important fast reloads.

More magazines is especially important for those using single stack firearms in longer competition scenarios that may require more ammunition. And, if a competitor were to drop a magazine in the dirt on a reload–it is good to have a spare.

Law enforcement and civilian carry situations can also benefit from the many Beltfeed advantages should the occasion arise. More ammunition in less space is especially important on equipment packed law enforcement service belts.

Specifications:

  • Available for over 150 pistols (see website for choices)
  • Kydex in: Black, red, blue, purple, pink
  • MSRP: 99.99

Tulster IWB Profile Holster: H&K VP9SK

vp9sk-cfpb

Jenks, Oklahoma (July 27, 2017) What’s better than the H&K VP9… how about a subcompact version? In early 2017 Heckler & Koch released the eagerly anticipated VP9SK which has continued to grow in popularity over the last several months. With many requests for an IWB holster, Tulster decided to add the H&K VP9SK to the Profile Holster lineup.

From the ground up, the Profile holster was designed to be an ultra-concealable, minimalistic, appendix carry holster without the drawbacks. Distinct features such as the matte-edge finish and minimal material used facilitate in a comfortable fit providing maximum concealment for concealed carry.

Each AIWB Profile holster is formed to the VP9SK for a snug fit with low drag. The adjustable retention along with the inherent positive retention “SNAP” ensures the firearm is secure when holstered.

Removal of extra material between the muzzle and retention screw adds to a layer of comfort without digging into the body or thigh. The trigger guard is intentionally undercut to promote a higher grip on the VP9SK and allow for a magazine release while the firearm is fully holstered.

From the injection molded belt clip to the soft loop option, the cant settings are easily adjustable from 0-15 degrees to allow for a perfect grip on the H&K VP9SK.

This Profile holster can be ordered in many different colors and patterns for either Right or Left handed shooters.

Holster Features:

  • · Undercut trigger guard.
  • · Works with Quick Clip or Softloop Kit.

NSSF Declares August National Shooting Sports Month

NEWTOWN, Conn. — There are countless celebration days and months in America, and now the shooting sports have one of their own. The National Shooting Sports Foundation has declared August to be National Shooting Sports Month, a time to celebrate one of America’s great pastimes — target shooting — and to encourage newcomers and experienced shooters to #LETSGOSHOOTING.

NSSF developed the celebration month to focus the attention of everyone in the shooting sports community — shooting ranges, firearms retailers, manufacturers and recreational shooters — on the fun and excitement of target shooting.

An estimated 50 million Americans participate in target shooting sports, and millions more have expressed interest in learning about rifle, shotgun and handgun shooting, according to NSSF research.

“With so much going on in people’s lives today, the shooting sports offer an opportunity to tune out distractions, learn a new skill, socialize and share their experiences,” said NSSF President and CEO Steve Sanetti. “It’s important to remember to pass on our traditions and to reflect on our unique freedoms that make participating in them possible.”

Experienced shooters are encouraged to introduce family members and friends to this rewarding lifetime activity, and newcomers without mentors will discover a safe, supportive introduction to recreational shooting at a range near them.

To help people find ways to celebrate, NSSF has launched www.ShootingSportsMonth.org. Among its many interactive features, the site contains an easy range search by state, events and sales promotions across the country and many other resources for target shooters of all skill levels.

Safety, of course, goes hand in hand with enjoying the shooting sports. Following safe firearms handling procedures and securely storing firearms when not in use are priorities for shooters. Find more about firearm safety at www.ShootingSportsMonth.org.

“It’s going to be fun month,” said Zach Snow, NSSF Director, Shooting Range Services. “And we want to know how everyone is celebrating. Tell us on our Facebook page, share your Instagram and Twitter posts with the hashtag #LetsGoShooting, let’s make this month one to remember.”

COMMENTS ON POTUS TRANSGENDER DIRECTIVE

Readers we’ve made it through another week and that in and of itself is a major accomplishment given the heat, political climate, and fake news so it’s time for our shoot the shit topic.

We love our new readers; as a courtesy to them we’d like to let you know that participation in our shoot the shit topics does not require that you know anything about the subject. You are free to make unsupported statements, use profanity, insult anyone you wish or change the subject altogether. You can normally expect to be billed $150 an hour for a basic therapist and much higher if they observe you, incognito. We on the other hand encourage you to let it all hang out, at no charge. So, let’s get on with today’s topic.

You’ve undoubtedly heard of President’s Trump decision to ban transgender individuals from all military service, a very sensitive and emotional topic – rightly so. Restricting an individual’s career options or denying that individual a job, for any reason, let alone sexual orientation,  is not just a vulgar display of prejudice but a criminal act. However, this fact does not mandate that we employ, promote or otherwise support the career ambitions of individuals whose inclusion may be detrimental to the organization. This is a difficult organizational decision for corporations, businesses and the country’s military.

The armed forces plan for decisive first strike capability, sustainment and survivability; all of these have as their least common denominator risk mitigation. That risk mitigation concern applies to tactics, equipment and personnel. The transgender issue falls squarely on the personnel side of the equation.

In the paragraphs that follow, I will introduce data from sociologists, psychologists and medical professionals. We are simply presenting facts assembled by national health organizations along with other groups. At no time do we diminish the LGBTQ community. But, as certain socio economic groups have a higher medical propensity for things like obesity, heart disease and high blood pressure, the gay community faces its own challenges. Every socio economic group has its exceptions but risk management has to consider the norm.

In the transgender community, pre-gender reassignment individuals suffer from  Gender Dysphoria – a fundamental unease and dissatisfaction with the biological sex one is born with which results in anxiety, depression, restlessness, and other symptoms. The dysphoria often acts as a catalyst to change one’s body and gender expression (how one presents to the world) to be more in keeping with what is felt to be one’s gender identity (the gender that one feels oneself to be).

Individuals who identify as transgender tend to experience higher rates of mental health issues than the general population. While approximately 6.7 percent of the general United States population suffers from depression and 18 percent grapple with some iteration of an anxiety disorder, nearly half of all individuals who identify as transgender experience these issues. What’s more, over 41 percent of trans men and women are estimated to have attempted suicide — a rate that’s nearly nine times as high as the rate of cisgender Americans.

Although a broad base of researchers agree with suicide and mental disorder data, there is considerable diversity in their views on causation. The most pro LGBTQ organizations attribute the statistics to discrimination, real or perceived, along with social stigma. At the other extreme you’ll find the work of Dr. Paul R. McHugh, the former psychiatrist-in-chief for Johns Hopkins Hospital and its current Distinguished Service Professor of Psychiatry, who describes transgenderism as a “mental disorder” that merits treatment and that sex change is “biologically impossible.” Dr. McHugh describes people who promote sexual reassignment surgery are collaborating with and promoting a mental disorder.

More recently, we have the issue of PFC Bradley E. Manning, now know as Chelsea Manning. In United States v Manning, Manning’s Defense Attorneys

“…also raised the issue of whether Manning’s gender identity disorder had affected Manning’s judgment. Manning had e-mailed master sergeant, Paul Adkins, in April 2010 to say she was suffering from gender confusion and, despite then living as a man, attaching a photograph of herself dressed as a woman. After Manning’s arrest, the army found information about hormone replacement therapy in her room, and Manning’s commander, Captain Steven Lim, learned that she had been calling herself Breanna. Defense lawyers argued that the superiors had failed to provide adequate counseling, and had not taken disciplinary action or revoke Manning’s security clearance. They also suggested that the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy—which was repealed in September 2011—had made it difficult for Manning to serve in the army as a gay man…

There is an abundance of clinical material discussing the challenges faced by the transgender community, as well as the aggregate LGBTQ community. You can read that for yourself if the topic moves you, but for now I’d like to comment on the socialization component of the transgender issue. To do that, I will share a story from my own military service.

I served with a man, Petty Officer Washington, who I have the deepest regard for. Petty Officer Washington is, or perhaps was, an African American serviceman. He was a courageous, humble man with an unquenchable thirst for learning. I don’t think a day went by when Washington didn’t have a book in his hands. However, P.O. Washington faced a challenge. In the confines of a submarine, where privacy is nonexistent , when evacuating his bowel, Washington had to let his penis hang outside the toilet bowl, he was not showing off or being cute,  he was simply dealing with the fact that if he allowed it to hang inside the toilet bowl it would be immersed in water.

Now imagine, P.O. Washington, pre-gender reassignment, identifying as a woman and requesting access to the WAVES (female sailors) showers and latrines. How should this be addressed? Should the services build individual shower stalls and replace latrines with private bathroom stalls across all branches? When you have organizations as large as the U.S. Military, there are significant social and financial challenges that any manager must consider, and the 2 year and $20,000 cost of gender reassignment is not a fully loaded cost; the accommodation could very well mean not upgrading a weapon system.

The issues associated with the President’s Transgender decision are significant and don’t stop at financial exposure. Risk mitigation especially from internal exposure is a valid consideration, imagine gender dysphoria being responsible for a mass killing, intentional detonation of ordnance or disclosure of classified information. The President made a difficult decision but we’ll bet you dollars to doughnuts that transgender exclusion stops at military service. At best, it’s political and shallow  to call his decision discriminatory; if anything can be criticized, is his “Trumpian” approach to the announcement. The actual implementation will undoubtedly consider the transgender servicemen and servicewomen presently serving honorably.

Let’s us know what you think. Have a great weekend and spend some time your buds and family. Stay safe!

U.S. Army On Track To Roll Out The XM17 Modular Handgun System November 2017

Image result for SIG XM17

Last Friday, the U.S. Army announced its proposed roll out plan for the XM17Modular Handgun System (MHS).

The first 2,000 guns will go to the 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. The remaining units will see their Beretta M9s replaced over the next 10 years.

The US Army’s purchased two Sig Sauer P320 variants, designated XM17 and XM18, awarding Sig Sauer a contested $580 million contract in January 2017. The new pistol features a number of improvements that addressed some of the more ubiquitous complaints. One problem, that appears to be a hot button, is the M9’s external safety which could accidentally be engaged when racking the slide. Ergonomic improvements as well as durability and a self-illuminating sight all won the day for Sig.

Although the XM17 and XM18 support caliber conversion, using SIG’s CALIBER X-CHANGE KIT, the Army will continue to use the 9mm rounds.
