PGM Precision Releases Results of Its Customer Survey

PGM Precision, a French manufacturer of exceptional precision rifles, enquete_03conducted a customer satisfaction survey a few months ago. They have now released the results, indicating a high level of customer satisfaction. The company has been manufacturing sniper platforms for years and have a global reputation for extraordinary accuracy and reliability. I’ve shot the PGM 338 Lapua and you can accept every claim made about the rifle as accurate. Regrettably, you don’t see them at the U.S. trade shows, a point I raised when meeting with them in Paris. I was informed that French regulations prevent them from shipping the firearms to shows and conventions outside of the EU, if I understood the explanation accurately. The survey results follow…

  1. 99.5% of respondents were satisfied with their PGM purchases
  2. 90% of non-customers are planning to purchase a PGM rifle in the coming year.
  3. 31% of respondents expressed frustration with PGM’s policy to not list prices. The company explains that foreign currency translations, shipping charges and other country specific regulations prevent them from publishing its prices.
  4. 85% of respondents view PGM products as highly reliable.
  5. 86% would recommend PGM products.

Available in 147gr 9mm Luger, the soft-shooting, low-recoil Match Elite load features coated nickel cases and fast, clean-burning powder for exceptional performance and shootability in fast-paced competitions. 90f1cb1d-3ab0-46f6-af51-2c3895aff3f6

Virginia Beach, Va. (July 2018) – Morphix Technologies®, an innovator in the science of detection devices for dangerous chemicals, will be exhibiting at Warrior® Expo East, July 11 – 12, 2018 at the Virginia Beach Convention Center in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Morphix Technologies will be exhibiting its TraceX® Explosive Detection Kit and its Chameleon® Chemical Detection Armband at Booth #133.

“We exhibited earlier this year at Warrior Expo West and are happy to be back at Warrior Expo East. These are great events that bring together end users, program managers and procurement specialists in one place. We are looking forward to exhibiting what the TraceX and Chameleon detection devices can do to help our warfighters and First Responders complete their missions,” commented Kimberly Pricenski, vice president of sales and marketing for Morphix Technologies.

TraceX Explosive Detection Kit

The TraceX Explosive Detection Kit is an affordable and easy-to-use product that aids in the detection of major explosive material threats and their precursors in a single test without exposing the kit to contamination or the user to dangerous chemicals. It was developed by Morphix Technologies under contract from the U.S. Department of Defense and meets their demanding requirements. It is small enough to fit in a cargo pocket, lightweight and rugged. Each kit comes in its own disposable protective plastic case, so the handler will be ready to use it when needed and is shelf stable for 24 months. With a single swab, the TraceX Explosive Detection Kit detects all the major families of explosive materials and their precursors.

Chameleon Chemical Detection Armband

The Chameleon Chemical Detection Armband is an easy-to-use, inexpensive, wearable, reusable armband that can hold up to 10 cassettes, each of which detects a particular toxic chemical and changes color upon detection. One color indicates the absence of toxic gas. When two colors appear in the window, the user knows it is time to take action.  Designed for use in the arctic, tropical and desert conditions, the Chameleon Chemical Detection Armband can even be immersed in water. Morphix Technologies has prioritized its product development based on the advice of the U.S. military and law enforcement agencies, so the Chameleon Chemical Detection Armband cassettes are available for many of the high-risk Toxic Industrial Chemicals (TICs) identified by the U.S. government. It has also been approved by the U.S.

SAFETY Act of the Department of Homeland Security as an anti-terrorist technology.

U.S. Army Updates Physical Fitness Test

Image result for Army FitnessMilitary.com reported on the U.S. Army’s new physical fitness test. Here’s what Uncle Sam’s Green Machine wants you to do if you want to be on the team:

  1. Strength Deadlift. This is a three-repetition maximum deadlift to test muscular strength; it mimics movement to safety and effectively lifting and carrying heavy loads.
  2. Standing Power Throw. This event involves throwing a 10-pound medicine ball as far as possible over the head and to the rear. It measures upper and lower muscular power, balance and whole body flexibility.
  3. Hand-Raised Push-ups. This event forces the soldier to go all the way to the floor and raise his hands before coming back up again, measuring upper-body muscular endurance.
  4. A 250-Meter Sprint, Drag and Carry. This is five different events within one event — a 50-meter sprint; a backward 50-meter drag of a 90-pound sled; a 50-meter movement; a 50-meter carry of two 40-pound kettle bells; and a final 50-meter sprint. It measures muscular strength, power, speed and reaction time.
  5. Leg Tuck. A soldier hangs perpendicular to the pull-up bar and brings his knees up to his elbows and back down again for one repetition. It measures muscular strength, endurance and grip.
  6. Two-Mile Run. The ACFT retains the two-mile run portion of the APFT, which is designed to measure aerobic and muscular endurance.

All events must be completed in 50 minutes or less, so there is mandated rest and a maximum time for each event. Each soldier gets two minutes’ rest between each of the first five events and five minutes of rest before the two-mile run.

Big Horn Armory Donates Big Bore Lever Action Guns to NRA National Firearms Museum

Big bore gun designer and manufacturer Big Horn Armory donates Model 89 in 500 S&W and first prototype to the NRA’s legendary collection of firearms.

Cody, Wyo. (July 2018) – Big Horn Armory, makers of big-bore firearms, is proud to announce the donation of their first working prototype for the popular Model 89 lever-action, two tool room prototype receivers in different states of completion, along with a production model in 500 S&W bearing the prized serial number of BHA0001 to the NRA National Firearms Museum in Fairfax, Virginia.

“We are honored to provide the NRA’s National Firearms Museum with Big Horn Armory’s first prototype of our big bore Model 89, the first production model and several receivers,” Greg Buchel, president and founder of Big Horn Armory, said. “Needless to say, the NRA’s collection is beyond priceless and a very important part of our American heritage. To be included in the NRA gallery and have our story told is the epitome of what America means to us; to have the opportunities to create and grow a business, and to wholly enjoy our 2nd Amendment freedoms.”

The NRA’s National Firearms Museum is located at their Fairfax, Virginia headquarters, where visitors can view over 3,000 firearms in 15 galleries comprised of 85 exhibit cases. The museum covers 700 years of firearms history in galleries that portray the period of time and history in which they were developed. From the first colonies to today, where innovation and the latest technologies are still producing American made firearms are proudly on public display.

BHA, a company of experienced firearms industry experts and avid big game hunters, was formed to develop a Browning-type, lever-action gun chambered in the 500 Smith & Wesson Magnum. In 2012, BHA successfully rolled out the only big bore lever-action specifically designed for the 500 S&W cartridge.

Every Model 89 demonstrates BHA’s commitment to combining American ingenuity with craftsmanship. Using the latest in CNC technology, the Model 89 in both carbine and rifle configurations are manufactured with 17-4 stainless steel and hardened to provide exceptional and consistent downrange performance and in-the-field reliability. Attention to detail and pride in the fit and finish is apparent in every rifle from the select and beautifully figured American black walnut stocks and forends to the large, hunter-friendly, curved lever for ease of operation, even when wearing gloves.

MARKSMANSHIP TRAINING TOOLS–FN EXPERT EUROSATORY 2018 (Continued)

In February of this year, we had the opportunity to review for our readers a product designed by Mantis Tech, an Illinois based small company. The company’s Mantis X Shooting Performance System was innovative and in fact unique on its approach to evaluating and enhancing marksmanship. Well, great ideas don’t go unnoticed and at this year’s Eurosatory, Paris, Belgium-based Fabrique National Herstel  (FNH) introduced their version of a similar approach which they market as the FN Expert. The major difference between the two systems is that the FN Expert uses optical alignment to asses POA / POI differences. M.S.R.P.  $3,863

FN Expert was designed and developed by FN’s Noptel subsidiary. Like the Mantis X Shooting Performance System, FN’s Expert  pairs with a smart device running software that analyzes muzzle movement before, during and after the trigger pull to identify breathing, sighting and trigger pull; grading each through a color coded plot. That analysis is available to both trainer and trainee so that corrective action is taken where necessary.

The following FN videos illustrate its function.

Morphix Technologies® Exhibiting at 2018 National Sports Safety and Security Conference and Exhibition

Morphix Technologies® will be displaying its TraceX® Explosive Detection Kit and Chameleon® Chemical Detection Armband at Booth # 237 in Louisville, Kentucky, July 9 – 12, 2018.

Virginia Beach, Va. (July 2018) – Morphix Technologies®, an innovator in the science of detection devices for dangerous chemicals, will be exhibiting at the 2018 National Sports Safety and Security Conference and Exhibition, July 9 – 12, 2018 at the Louisville Marriott Downtown in Louisville, Kentucky. Morphix Technologies will be exhibiting its TraceX® Explosive Detection Kit and its Chameleon® Chemical Detection Armband at Booth #237.

“Sadly, large events, like sporting exhibitions, are now potential targets for chemical or bomb attacks. These events could have catastrophic results, given the large, centralized population affected and the limited number of exits. The National Sports Safety and Security Conference Exhibition attracts individuals who represent or support professional sport leagues, intercollegiate and interscholastic athletics, marathon/endurance events and commercial sport and entertainment facilities, and these people and their facilities can benefit from the use of our products. For example, the continual monitoring of the air with the Chameleon Chemical Detection Armband can help law enforcement respond quickly, should an attack take place. We look forward to speaking with these decision makers and demonstrating the benefits of our products to them,” commented Kimberly Pricenski, vice president of sales and marketing for Morphix Technologies.

The ninth annual National Sports Safety and Security Conference and Exhibition will feature as its theme for 2018 “Enhancing Situational Awareness in the Sports Safety and Security Industry.” The gathering of top professionals in the field will provide a wholesome environment dedicated to security/safety technologies, products, services and education for safeguarding the assets and spectators the industry is charged to protect. The target audience includes security directors and operators, facility and stadium managers, event planners/operators, law enforcement personnel, emergency managers, fire/hazmat, emergency medical/health services, athletic administrators and governmental representatives.

If you’d like to receive more information on the Chameleon or TraceX, please contact Morphix Technologies toll-free at 800-808-2234 or locally at 757-431-2260. You can also email sales@morphtec.com.

AeroVironment Collaborating with NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory to Build First Drone – the Mars Helicopter – to Fly on Mars

  • New space endeavor draws on company’s unique and diverse history of innovation and high-altitude drone flight experience
  • Drone prototypes have passed rigorous tests in simulated Mars atmosphere
  • Final Mars-bound helicopter now in production at JPL

MONROVIA, Calif., July 3, 2018 – What does a company do when its trailblazing and diverse innovations for nearly half a century have redefined how the world drives and flies?  When its many technological “firsts” include the first practical electric car, flying the Nano Hummingbird drone, record-setting, solar-powered aircraft flights in near space, and reshaping the battlefield with portable, hand-held, tactical drones and loitering munitions?

It takes on another world.

At a briefing held Wednesday at New York City’s NASDAQ Marketsite, AeroVironment, Inc. (NASDAQ: AVAV) revealed its critical role in collaborating with NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (NASA/JPL) in Pasadena, Calif. to build the drone helicopter recently selected by NASA/JPL’s Mars Exploration Program, and displayed a model of the Mars Helicopter, which is planned to fly on Mars in less than three years.

“AeroVironment’s deep, rich and diverse history of innovation combined with our experience with near-space aircraft like Pathfinder and Helios make us uniquely suited to collaborate with NASA and JPL on this historic, interplanetary venture,” said AeroVironment President and Chief Executive Officer Wahid Nawabi.

Flying at nearly 100,000 feet on Earth is much like flying on the surface of Mars – same air density – so AeroVironment used airfoil design principles and simulation tools the technology company learned from record high-altitude flights and incorporated them into the Mars helicopter design.

“The Mars Helicopter effort also benefits from the ultra-lightweight and ultra-high-precision methods integral to our nano projects that have been developed in our MacCready Works laboratory, where we’ve assembled a dedicated team of the industry’s brightest and most experienced thinkers to solve some of today’s greatest technological challenges,” Nawabi said.

AeroVironment first developed subscale Mars helicopter prototypes to test and demonstrate the feasibility of lift in the thin Martian atmosphere.  Then in May 2016, AeroVironment delivered to NASA/JPL a Mars Helicopter rotor and landing gear prototype that was integrated with a JPL-developed controller and demonstrated free flight in a simulated Mars atmosphere, proving that it is possible to fly on the Red Planet.  Next, AeroVironment delivered major helicopter subsystems in the fall of 2017 for integration into Mars-representative engineering development models.  JPL built two Engineering Development Model Mars Helicopters, integrating the AeroVironment rotor, landing gear, fuselage shell and solar panel substrate together with JPL-developed fuselage composed of flight avionics, onboard power, telecom, flight control and sensors into two models.

One of the development models was used for flight demonstration in JPL’s large 25-foot space simulator, and the other for environmental testing, including thermal tests to ensure the vehicle can endure the frigid Mars nights, and vibration tests to make sure it is rugged enough to survive launch.  Both vehicles passed the rigorous tests, paving the way for the development and fabrication of the final, Mars-bound version.

AeroVironment is currently building the flight versions of their subsystems which will be integrated with other subsystems into the vehicle that JPL is building. The plan is for JPL to then install the finished Mars Helicopter into the Mars 2020 rover for its ride to a Martian landing site, still to be determined.

The Mars Helicopter project is led by NASA JPL with team members across JPL, AeroVironment, NASA Ames and NASA Langley. The AeroVironment team has worked closely with NASA rotorcraft experts at the NASA Ames and Langley research centers and with JPL electrical, mechanical, materials, vehicle flight controls, and systems engineers. AeroVironment’s contributions to the first Mars drone include design and development of the helicopter’s airframe and major subsystems, including its rotor, rotor blades, hub and control mechanism hardware. The company also developed and built high-efficiency, lightweight propulsion motors, power electronics, landing gear, load-bearing structures, and the thermal enclosure for NASA/JPL’s avionics, sensors, and software systems

The press briefing featured high-impact visuals and models of many of AeroVironment’s innovations, including the Snipe™ nano drone – the latest tactical UAS innovation from AeroVironment that provides today’s defenders with critical information whenever and wherever it is needed – and the Switchblade® Lethal Miniature Aerial Missile System (LMAMS).  AeroVironment recently received Switchblade orders from the U.S. Army and U.S. Marines Corps through Urgent Needs Statements.

Thermal Imaging–Eurosatory 2018 (Continued)

20180611_153704

While at Eurosatory, I had the opportunity to meet Dr. Harry Schlemmer, Hensoldt, and Dr. Peter Bossdorf of Mittler Report Verlang GmbH at a meeting arranged by Carina Siegmund, Hensoldt, Communications Manager.

The presentation, arranged by executives of Hensoldt marketing, focused on Hensoldt’s total C4ISR solutions for the modern battlefield. The company’s Sensor House motto “Detect and Protect” was superbly represented by a series of technical solutions consisting of Radar, IFF and Data Link; EW and Situational Awareness; and Optronics.

The presentation also included the official launch of a book, “Seeing an Invisible World”, written by Dr. Schlemmer and published by Mittler Report Verlang GmbH.

20180702_124644

I’ve had the opportunity to read the book, an experience that I’ll summarize by identifying its targeted audience as technically oriented readers. Although a technical work, the author has avoided a rigorous mathematical treatise; instead, focusing on the evolution of thermal imaging tracing its beginnings to the 17th century.

“Seeing an Invisible World” is thorough, factual and extremely well researched by a scientist who’s been integral to Hensoldt technical innovations. I strongly recommend that you add it to your existing library.

HENSOLDT Showcases Portable Counter-UAV System-EUROSATORY 2018 (Continued)

HENSOLDT_Xpeller_Gear

“XpellerGear” also provides protection against radio-controlled bombs.

Munich/Paris, 7 June 2018 – At Eurosatory, the international defense and security
exhibition in Paris, the sensor solutions provider HENSOLDT will be showcasing for the first
time a portable version of its counter-UAV system Xpeller, called “XpellerGear”, which also
can be used to provide protection against radio remote-controlled bombs, so-called RCIEDs
(= radio-controlled Improvised Explosive Devices).

The new configuration combines a radio detector with a jammer. As soon as the radio
detector acquires a signal evidently controlling a UAV, the jammer can override this signal,
thus severing the connection between the UAV and its operator. A smart detection algorithm
with integrated signature database guarantees highly precise detection of all UAV-relevant
signals and extremely short response times.

The modular Xpeller product family includes various sensors such as radar systems,
cameras and radio frequency detectors as well as direction finders and jammers. Xpeller
uses sensors to detect and identify a drone and assess its threat potential at ranges from a
few hundred meters up to several kilometers. This enables the operator to take timely action
against a possible threat. The modular Xpeller system concept allows customized solutions
to be created by combining individual devices from the product family depending on
customer requirements and the local conditions. This means that the customer can select
from a building set made up of radar, radio frequency and optical components together with
various countermeasures. HENSOLDT can provide advice and support by analyzing the
weaknesses, for example, in order to help the customer compile an individual security
concept.

About HENSOLDT
HENSOLDT is a pioneer of technology and innovation in the area of defense and security
electronics. The company, headquartered in Taufkirchen near Munich, is a market leader in
civilian and military sensor solutions, developing new products to counter a wide variety of
threats based on disruptive concepts in such fields as big data, robotics and cyber security.
With a workforce of some 4,300 employees, HENSOLDT generates revenues of more than
€1 billion per year.

Former Airbus DS Electronics and Border Security SAS becomes HENSOLDT France SAS

Munich/Paris, 27 April 2018 – HENSOLDT completed yesterday the acquisition of Airbus DS Electronics and Border Security SAS, a France-based company which offers highly secure data link solutions and a range of IFF (identification friend or foe) products.

HENSOLDT had been formed from the sale of Airbus Group’s defense electronics business to the leading global private equity firm KKR. While the sale of the Germany-based activities was finalized in February 2017 with Airbus maintaining a temporary 25.1% minority stake until the full separation of the sites, the sale of the France-based activities followed a different regulatory and site separation process leading to the closing achieved on 26 April 2018.

The new HENSOLDT France SAS based in Plaisir, close to Paris (see photo), generates
revenues of approximately € 20 Million per year with a workforce of 60 people. It is led by

PGZ SMALL ARMS–EUROSATORY 2018 (CONTINUED)

20180613_143618

One of my objectives while at this year’s EUROSATORY was to spend some time with nondomestic small arms manufacturers. My first stop took me to the Polish Armaments Group (Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa). The PGZ is a Polish conglomerate made up of 60 companies dedicated to being a one stop shop for modern defense solutions. The representative was kind enough to spend quite a bit of time with me, and in talking with him you could feel the sense of national pride – always a good indication.

All of the company’s shoulder fired weapons are available in two varieties, NATO compliant and the more common Eastern European  7.62 x 39 chamberings. Build quality and ergonomics were excellent as well.

20180613_143733

Their newest carbine originally designated  the Modular Firearm System (MSBS) 5.56, renamed GROT C in 2017,  is a joint project of “Łucznik” Arms Factory in Radom and the Military University of Technology. The company produces 11 variants. This modern military system covers an entire family of weapons based on a single MSBS design. The line is composed of 6 classical versions (standard rifle, rifle with grenade launcher, mini-rifle, machine gun, sharpshooter rifle and rifle for the Representative Battalion of the Polish Army) and 5 bullpup variants (standard rifle, rifle with grenade launcher, mini-rifle, machine gun and sharpshooter rifle).

20180613_143852

All in all, an impressive offering from PGZ of very high quality small arms. As of this writing, it’s my understanding that the GROT C carbine will have a commercial variant which should be announced at SHOT SHOW 2019.

20180613_144205

Above is PGZ’s Alex rifle, a sniper platform featuring a bullpup design and chambered in 338 Lapua Magnum – detachable magazine, smooth action with an equally good trigger.

The new MONARCH HG 30mm series follows in the footsteps of its award-winning* 42mm siblings and provides nearly identical performance specifications in a smaller size and nearly 8-ounce reduction in weight.

For The Best Images, You Need the Best Glass

Extraordinary optical performance is key to the new MONARCH HG 30mm binocular. The optical system of the MONARCH HG is engineered around its ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass with high-quality multilayer coating applied to all lenses and prisms. Dielectric high-reflective multilayer coating is applied to the binoculars’ roof prisms, achieving a bright view of up to 92% or higher light transmittance, and natural color fidelity. To assure long-term optical acuity, scratch-resistant coatings protect the MONARCH HG objective and eyepiece lenses.

Field Flattener Lens System Keeps Everything Sharp and Clear

Nikon’s Field Flattener Lens System works in conjunction with MONARCH HG 30mm’s extraordinarily wide field of view—8.3° and 6.9° respectively in the 8×30 and 10×30 models—to provide a sharp, clear view to the lens periphery. This specification matches the FOV of the 42mm models of the same magnification.

Compact & Lightweight for Increased Agility

The new 8×30 and 10×30 MONARCH HG are built with a body made from magnesium alloy, providing optimum strength, impact resiliency and weight reduction. Tipping the scales at just under 16 ounces each, the binoculars’ slim body profile is further enhanced with rubberized panels to provide a sure grip in any conditions. A high quality neoprene neck strap provides increased comfort and further reduces neck strain during long days in the field.

Built To Perform In The Toughest Conditions

Nikon shields MONARCH HG’s interior lenses from fogging with an extreme waterproof rating that assures fogproof integrity even at altitudes equivalent to 16,000 feet. For total versatility, the MONARCH HG 30mm binoculars include both integral flip-down rubber objective lens covers and rubber objective trim rings that can be interchanged at the user’s discretion.

No Fault Lifetime Repair/Replacement

MONARCH HG binoculars are not only built for all-terrain ruggedness and all-conditions integrity, Nikon’s No-Fault Repair/Replacement Policy also protects them for life. The 8×30 and 10×30 models include a semi-hard case to protect binocular during travel or storage.

FREE TRADE OR PROTECTIONISM

Image result for Trade imbalance

It’s Friday and the weekend is upon us; sadly it looks like my BBQ is going to get rained out but better some rain than a draught I always say. Glad you guys made it through the week, hopefully without consulting a practitioner of the behavioral sciences. Always remember that these individuals elected the field of study so they could understand themselves. Should extraterrestrial civilizations decide to visit earth they too would find them to be utterly inept. Between practitioners who prescribe neuroleptics turning some of these poor bastards into serial killers and those that think you’re in denial, your best option is to shoot the shit and preserve your cognitive skills. So lets talk about free trade and protectionism.

The media is hopeless, I honestly don’t know what is happening with our press but someone needs to take their iPhones away and cancel their Facebook accounts to force them into research and objectivity. Free Trade is an academic concept that simply does not exist, and, of course, you know  that academics have never stayed up at night trying to figure out how to meet an upcoming payroll. The concept of free trade looks good on paper or when discussing their academic credentials over truffles.

Free trade is the unhampered flow of goods and services across borders. Canadian businesses, for example, would be allowed to sell Canadian products freely in the U.S. market and U.S. products would be allowed access to the Canadian market. Under this model, companies compete for market share, with market share going to those companies accepted by local consumers; it is by definition pure competition. This is generally a good thing resulting in superior products and lower prices for all consumers involved. However, free trade does not exist in practical application, much like communist theory of thesis and antithesis. Why? There are a number of reasons.

Governments rely on local industries to employ citizens, generate tax revenues and some industries are strategic to national security.  Imagine, just for one moment,  that due to moronic trade policy,  U.S. steel, semiconductor, petrochemical and energy sectors  are eliminated under the auspices of free trade. This means that global suppliers, by controlling exports and or prices, could readily influence U.S. foreign policy. The foundation of our military is our industrial base so a deterioration of our industry would have a deleterious effect on our national security.

In 2017 the U.S. trade deficit grew to $568.4 billion, these are revenues leaving the country and flowing to foreign suppliers; therefore, unavailable to U.S. businesses in the form of revenues. The loss in revenues constrict U.S. businesses, employment and economic output as expressed in GDP estimates. So, when you hear the media call the Trump administration protectionist, take into account that virtually all of the G20 countries are too protectionists, for reasons I mentioned earlier.

Fixing the problem requires that our trading partners grant U.S. companies equal access to their markets, without impediments, provided products are not hazardous to its citizens or threaten sovereign national security. To date, this has not happened; a fact supported by the increasing year over year trade deficit. China is a whole different issue, take this to the bank!

China’s industry is a branch of the Chinese military establishment . They have attacked the U.S. economy with industrial espionage, invest in U.S. companies to acquire technology, manipulated their labor force along with its currency. China is a threat to the UK, France, Germany and the industrialized world as a whole, and the gloves need to come off globally. We need to rethink how global markets deal with China.

I for one, will get behind what this administration is trying to do and avoid Chinese products or their surrogates’. I encourage you to do the same for the long term health of the country. I won’t even get into some of the quality issues.

So, the next time you hear some imbecil in the media, or government, refer to the administration’s trade policies as protectionist, ask them for a list of countries that allow unrestricted access to their markets.

Have a great weekend, but be safe and spend some quality time with your buds and family.

AKTI Works with Senators Mike Enzi and Ron Wyden to Support Senate Commerce Committee Passage of Interstate Transport Act

0cd4d09e-73cd-4091-93a0-f2f4e55c8e9c

Knife Owners Will Have a New Federal Protection While Traveling Under Legislation Advocated For By the American Knife & Tool Institute

Cody, WY, June 27, 2018 – The American Knife & Tool Institute (AKTI), a nonprofit trade association representing the entire knife community, announced that the United States Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation passed S. 1092, the Interstate Transport Act (ITA), a bill to further protect law-abiding knife owners.

Throughout the 2017-2018 legislative session, AKTI has had numerous successes in easing burdensome restrictions on knife owners throughout the nation, including a repeal of the automatic knife prohibition in Colorado and Michigan. In addition, AKTI has continued its work to protect lawful knife owners traveling through the current patchwork of state and local knife laws with the introduction of the Interstate Transport Act.

The organization has worked closely with legislators and staff in the United States Congress to advance its signature federal legislation, which is led by Senators Mike Enzi, R-WY, and Ron Wyden, D-OR, and currently has eight additional bipartisan co-sponsors. These co-sponsors include: Senators Steve Daines, R-MT, Martin Heinrich, D-NM, James Risch, R-ID, Joe Manchin, D-WV, Jeff Merkley, D-OR, Mike Crapo, R-ID, Tom Udall, D-NM, and Tammy Baldwin, D-WI.

Under current United States code, lawful gun owners are allowed to transport firearms that are legal in both a traveler’s state of origin and state of destination, even if they will pass through jurisdictions that would not permit the firearms, provided they are properly stored and in accordance with all federal restrictions. This protection was created in 1986, when Congress passed the Firearms Owners Protection Act (FOPA). Prior to this legislation, gun owners had no way to legally travel with their firearms through states and localities that had more stringent laws. This law empowers firearm owners to travel more freely, while not restricting states’ ability to regulate the firearms that are carried within their borders.

Senator Enzi

Senator Mike Enzi

However, no such federal protection exists for knife owners wishing to transport knives to and from states in which they are legal, but through jurisdictions with varying requirements. The Interstate Transport Act would create a federal protection for knife owners, allowing legal interstate travel with knives, provided the knives are transported to and from states where the law allows possession of said knives, and they are transported in locked containers.

“In Wyoming, we understand that knives are an essential tool for folks, whether they are for hunting, ranching or for everyday use,” Enzi said. “I am glad the committee passed this legislation, which would allow law-abiding knife owners to finally be able to travel across the country without fear of breaking the law. I am hopeful that the Senate will act quickly to pass this common-sense legislation.”

Senator Wyden

Senator Ron Wyden

“Our bipartisan bill recognizes that law-abiding knife owners shouldn’t risk going to jail for traveling between two places where it’s legal to have knives,” Wyden said. “I’m glad the Commerce Committee has taken this important step toward respecting state laws and restoring some common sense to our nation’s laws regarding knife ownership.”

The Interstate Transport Act is a continuation of AKTI’s efforts in the US Congress since 2013. Over that time, AKTI has heard repeatedly from knife owners who have questions about the confusing and varying laws in locations they are visiting or through which they are planning to travel. Since AKTI’s goal is to ensure that law-abiding citizens have knowledge and confidence in their ability to carry the tools they use in their daily lives, we got to work.

“Since we were formed in 1998, AKTI has worked to systematically address what we saw as outdated, confusing, and unfair laws both in the states, and at the federal level,” said CJ Buck, AKTI President and CEO of Buck Knives, Inc. “Our goal is common sense knife reform, and in recent years we have had success fighting for changes in multiple states, to the benefit of the consumer. We’re extremely encouraged to see the Senate Commerce Committee pass the Interstate Transport Act, and we are highly optimistic that the Senate will soon pass the legislation and send it to the House for their approval. We are proud to be working with a bipartisan group of legislators who share our commitment to common sense solutions, and we look forward to passing this important reform into law. We thank Senators Enzi and Wyden for their hard work on the Interstate Transport Act, and look forward to working with them to get it across the finish line.”

EUROSATORY 2018 (CONTINUED)

20180611_123246

One of the more interesting technologies exhibited at EUROSATORY 2018, is a product offering from French designer STARNAV. The RAPACE system is far more than a bore sighting tool as explained by Anthony Candelot one of the company’s engineers.

It’s not often practical or even desirable to confirm zero or zero to a specified range using live fire. Doing so takes time and usually translates to expending a large amount of ammunition. The RAPACE system employs some sophisticated technology to mitigate those consideration.

RAPACE provides two functions:

  1. The quick initial setting providing target shooting for a new weapon.
  2. The setting ensures accurate shooting at +/- 3 cm at 100 m for a weapon known by RAPACE.

RAPACE is very simple to use:

1- Position the weapon on RAPACE and insert the light cartridge.

2 – inform the software about the weapon’s intended use.

Start the measurement, takes about 20 seconds. The result of the analysis is concretized by the display of a virtual reticle on the screen.

4 – Align the reticle of the optic on the virtual reticle.

5 – End of the procedure. The weapon is set.

Moreover, you can use the system across different platforms and different users; essentially saving the calibration profile for the specific weapon / ammunition combination and assigned individual.
