SIG SAUER P320 X-Carry to Become the Standard Service Pistol for the Danish Ministry of Defense

Newington, N.H. (June 25, 2018) – SIG SAUER, Inc. is pleased to announce the Danish Ministry of Defense (MoD) has selected the SIG SAUER P320 X-Carry to replace their standard service pistol covering the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Special Operations Command (SOCOM). The Danish MoD is the ministry within the Danish government charged with ensuring peace and security, both nationally and internationally, and is comprised of the Danish armed forces, the Danish Defense Intelligence Service, and the Danish Emergency Management Agency.

The procurement process for the Danish MoD’s new standard service pistol lasted four weeks in which the Glock 17 Gen 5, Beretta APX, Canik TP 9 SF, and the SIG P320 X-Carry, were tested under all possible conditions and varying circumstances that the pistol would be used. Testing for accuracy, night shooting, and field testing were conducted by the Army, Navy, Air Force, and SOCOM. Additional drop, penetration, and precision testing were conducted by various selected experts for each of the contenders.

“By far SIG SAUER’s P320 X-Carry outperformed the competition throughout our rigorous and stringent testing process,” Tom Elvius-Brisson, Chief of Weaponry Branch, Danish Defense Acquisition and Logistics Organization. “The P320 X-Carry pistol is the modern firearm we were looking for to support our soldiers. The P320 X-Carry has a larger magazine capacity, comes reflex red-dot ready for sighting, and has the ability to incorporate a suppressor – all extremely important features to our soldiers for their sidearm today and are all features which were missing on the current pistol in service in the Danish Defense.”

The P320 X-Carry is a modular, striker-fired pistol with a serialized trigger group available in varying grip sizes and adaptable to multiple calibers. The standard service P320 X-Carry pistol that will be issued by the Danish MoD comes with an enhanced X-carry polymer grip, flat trigger, extended beaver tail, extended removable magwell, and a deep trigger guard undercut. The pistol will come standard with XRAY 3 Night-Sights with the option to easily interchange reflex red-dot sights. The intuitive 3-point takedown requires no trigger pull for disassembly, and safety features include a striker safety, disconnect safety, and optional manual safety.

The SIG SAUER P320 X-Carry will replace all pistols currently in service across the Danish Ministry of Defense.

EUROSATORY 2018

EURSATORY is one of the world’s premier defense and security expositions. It’s held every other year in Paris, France, at Parc des Expositions Paris Nord Villepinte. This year the conference/exhibition brought together 1761 exhibitors and over 70,000 attendees. The United States was represented by 144 exhibitors displaying everything from sniper platforms to armor vehicles all under one roof in the company of other global competitors. A must attend event for anyone in the Defense Industry.

There are two EU conference / exhibitions that rank as the world’s largest and they are DSEi, in London, and EUROSATORY in Paris. If you’re interested in seeing the depth and breath of the global defense industry both events will get you there.

This year’s EUROSATORY confirms the growing role that UAV and sUAV (small UAV) will play in law enforcement, border security, counterterror and military operations. UAVs and their corresponding payloads are being developed at a near exponential rate, and you may reasonably expect that the UAV of 2019-2022 will play play a role in CBRNe, ISR and C4ISR as well as modular directed weapons systems capable of delivering any number of tailor made ordnance packages. This is true of man-packable drones as well as the larger remotely piloted drones.

Along with expanded drone and payload  development, counter-drone technology is also emerging ranging from short range portable handheld jammers that interrupt an sUAV’s control link to large systems capable of detecting drones at ranges in excess of 20 kilometers then direct high powered lasers to engage an intruding drone, and with a 3 second burn take down the drone.

One very promising and capable system by Skylock Anti-Drone Systems, part of the Avnon Group, Israel, leverages the company’s core competence in anti-drone technologies to produce a counter UAV system that’s quite impressive and very capable.

The unit on the left of the picture is a continuous wave radar. There is no scan or pulse repetition rate, it simply emits a continuous r.f. wave that will detect an incoming drone at extended ranges up to 20km. The radar was presented as omnidirectional but I suspect that it’s closer to a cardioid pattern and not a full 360 degrees. Once it detects a target, the radar passes range and azimuth data to the unit on the right hand side of the picture whose job it is to track and engage the drone with a 3 second laser burn. It can also jam the drone signal should that be required. The Skylock Anti-Drone system can be vehicle mounted or pedestal mounted at an airport location or other critical infrastructure.

Other major players in the counter-UAV space include Germany’s Hensoldt but there are numerous multinationals working on a variety of countermeasures. In addition to counter-UAV technologies, a number of companies are now engaged in developing encryption technologies to protect the video downlinks and control signals.

I’ll be covering more of Eurosatory 2018 in subsequent articles, but for now I’d like to leave you with a view of the capabilities demonstrations, held throughout the event, featuring RAID, BRI, GIGN and French Special Forces. The slide presentation below captures these demonstrations.

RETAY ARMS Receives U.S. Patent Approval For Innovative Rotating Bolt System

STI.of Konya Turkey announces that on June 12, 2018 the United States Patent and Trademark Office issued PATENT 9,995,542 for “Rotating head assembly for use with the bolt assembly of a gun” in recognition of RETAY’s innovation of a rotating bolt head system that prevents the unintended unlocking of the bolt head from the breach of a firearm.

RETAY began developing its rotating bolt system in an effort to achieve a more reliable rotating bolt head for use in semi-automatic firearms. For decades the traditional kinetic energy powered rotating bolt system has enjoyed popularity for its simple design and ease of maintenance however,  the original design was plagued by a tendency of the bolt head to unintentionally unlock from the breach of the firearm when it was jarred by walking over rough terrain or by the impact of setting the firearm down. The unlocking tendency has also been the reason that several militaries including the United States armed forces have not adopted the kinetic / inertia driven semi automatic shotgun in spite of the many advantages over the gas operated system that it offers.
Retay Arms’ new design solves the aforementioned defect by forcing the bolt-head to stay locked to the breach under all conditions by means of an active torsion system that forces the bolt head to rotate and lock into battery with the firearm chamber and to automatically return to locked position even after a jarring force strong enough to unlock the head is absorbed by the firearm.

Back From EUROSATORY 2018 Just In Time For a Good Shoot the SHIT !

It’s Friday and I’m looking forward to logging some R&R. It’s also my first shoot the shit since returning from Eurosatory 2018. I’ve got to tell you that between SOFIC 2018 and Eurosatory 2018 I’ve been busier than a one-legged man in an ass-kicking contest. All well worth the effort for personal enrichment and to bring readers some interesting information. Here’s a little morsel.

The Polish Army is getting a new rifle (about 53,000 2017-2020). The new 5.56mm carbine, initially designated MSBS-5.56 and renamed in 2017 to GROT C16FB-M1, developed and manufactured by Fabryka Broni part of the Polish Armament Group (PGZ), will be morphing into a civilian version designated .223 Remington GROT S16 FB-M1. The EU press has already reported on it and you can bet your bottom dollar that Fabryka Broni will have some on hand at SHOT SHOW 2019. My understanding is that the GROT S16 FB-M1 will be introduced with the Magpul MLOK architecture; however, it will not support the MAGPUL PMAG M3 magazine. Go figure! And, there’s more to come…

What’s happening in this country is an international embarrassment! To a great extent it’s we the voters with egg on our face. We’ve managed to elect Representatives and Senators that refuse to get behind the country, its citizens and problem solve. It’s disheartening to say the least, but its on us to change that with the upcoming midterm election. Democrats and Republicans alike need to clean house and focus on getting elected officials in office that will focus on accomplishing something positive for the country. Don’t even get me started on the jackasses in the media and entertainment industry. On the aggregate it’s a vulgar display of low class, hypocrisy and stupidity.

On a lighter note, we found out that Amazon and Marriott will be testing Alexa at select Marriott properties. Can you imagine Alexa, listing in on your moments of intimacy? I’d ask my significant other to start shouting “ oh baby that’s a biggy”, “did I take the whole thing?” Amazon assures us that any recorded conversations will be erased at the end of the day! Right, and honest to God I’ll respect you in the morning. The NSA may already be working on a hack and law enforcement will want to access audio to see if your shacking with a hooker.

Sadly, on Thursday we found out that Charles Krauthammer passed away. Those of you not familiar with Mr. Krauthammer should know that he was an intellectual’s intellectual and a prolific writer with the uncanny ability to reduce complex ideas to their least common denominator. A Pulitzer Price winner, Charles was a gem in an industry replete with crap. His passing is a great loss to a media that has grown increasingly mediocre. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and colleagues, Charles Krauthammer will be missed. R.I.P Charles.

As with all shoot the shits, participants don’t need to know anything about the topics and are free to make unsupported comments, use uncensored profanity, insult anyone you wish or change the subject altogether. Your alternative is to pay some jackass that studied psychology because they wanted to understand themselves $150+ per hour.

Texas Department of Public Safety Selects SIG SAUER P320

Newington, N.H. (June 18, 2018) – Today, SIG SAUER, Inc., announced the Texas Department of Public Safety (TXDPS) has integrated the SIG SAUER P320 as its official service firearm throughout its divisions.

The Texas Department of Public Safety is the statewide agency responsible for law enforcement and vehicle registration headquartered in Austin, Texas. The TXDPS is one of the largest law enforcement agencies in the country and is comprised of thirteen divisions including the Texas Highway Patrol, and the Texas Rangers.

Adaptive Tactical’s ‘Less Than Lethal Orange’ Remington 870 EX Performance Stock and Forend Set Receives Approval from NTOA Member Tested and Recommended Program

Nampa, Idaho (June 2018) – Adaptive Tactical, LLC, manufacturers of innovative firearm stocks and accessories, is proud to announce its ‘Less Than Lethal Orange’ EX Performance Forend and Adjustable Stock for the Remington 870 was field-tested approved by the National Tactical Officers Association (NTOA) Member Tested and Recommended Program (MTRP). The matching stock and forend set were tested by NTOA members in various parts of North America and rated on a scale of zero to five in a variety of categories such as design, performance and quality. The EX Stock and Forend Set received an approved passing score of 3.96 out of 5.

Both testers found installation to be very easy and appreciated the included forend wrench used to remove / replace the action rails of the Remington 870. Quality and Durability were rated very high by both evaluators, with the Alabama officer stating that his “initial observation of the Adaptive Tactical stock set was it appeared to be very well built and robust…the function and durability of the product is flawless, and the fact that it comes with a picatinny rail and multiple sling points is a big plus.”

Another common favorite feature was the recoil pad. “The thick rubber recoil pad was appreciated. The stock adjusted smoothly and did not break with repeated banging into concrete on its sides and butt, nor did it move from its selected position,” remarked the testing officer from Illinois. The Alabama officer agreed, stating “the recoil pad is thick, rubbery and provides a positive shouldering of the shotgun. The palm swell on the pistol grip is also ambidextrous and fills the hand well. The foregrip is robust and fills the hand well.”

The highly visible bright orange ‘Less Lethal Orange’ EX Performance Forend and Adjustable Stock easily marks the shotgun for use in ‘Less Lethal’ Law Enforcement applications. Optimized for law enforcement and tactical operations, the stock and forend come with a number of advanced design features. The forend features a two-inch Picatinny rail hidden under the nose cap. Once uncovered, it allows for the attaching of tactical accessories like lasers and lights. The stock and forend are made from high-impact, polymer construction and the stock has an oversized, extra strength adjustment pin, making it reliable and tough as nails. In addition to being tough, the adjustable stock has excellent ergonomics and comes with a pistol grip and includes an easy-to-reach rapid adjust lever for custom length-of-pull. The stock also includes an integrated QD swivel attachment and a molded-in non-rust standard sling swivel attachment for secure mounting to various sling systems. The stock has a nonslip vented rubber recoil pad which allows for maximum recoil absorption.

The AR500’s precision machined stainless steel barrels are surface hardened to Rc82 with Big Horn Armory’s Nitride process for consistent downrange performance and in-the-field dependability. The 18-inch barrel is threaded at a ¾-inch x 28 TPI, standard for most 50 caliber muzzle devices and ships with a standard flash suppressor.

OTIS TECHNOLOGY ANNOUNCES CEO APPOINTMENT

Lyons Falls, NY: In a company meeting yesterday, the Board of Advisors of Otis Technology announced to its employees that Larry Williams will assume the role of Chief Executive Officer, effective July 9, 2018.
Otis Technology was founded 33 years ago by the Williams family and has grown to be the premier brand of gun cleaning equipment and related accessories for the U.S. Military, Law Enforcement, and sport shooters worldwide.  Larry has been an integral part of the company for over 20 years.  He led the operations function for many years, working diligently to push the envelope when it came to operational excellence.  He was the driving force for shifting the Otis culture to that of a lean organization.
In 2013, Mr. Williams assumed a role on the Advisory Board among his siblings where his focus became more strategic in nature and mentored a team of senior managers, including current CEO Leonard Puzzuoli, to carry out strategic initiatives.  He continued to take on special projects within various departments, helping them achieve efficiency, cost savings, growth or other key objectives.
Otis Technology was founded in 1985 by Doreen Garrett.  She and her siblings – Larry Williams, Denise Miller and Nick Williams, together with their parents, Jerry & Lori Williams, worked tirelessly to position Otis as the leader in firearms maintenance products.  Doreen was CEO for 28 years before assuming her current role as Chairwoman of the Board.
Mr. Puzzuoli has been with Otis Technology for nine years, succeeding Garrett in the CEO role for the past five years.  He will assist in the transition over the next month and will be leaving the company.  The Board would like to thank Len for his years of service as both CFO and CEO.  Under Len’s leadership, Otis has recognized continued success in manufacturing excellence, product launches and sales channel expansion.

ATTENTION: CAL Production

We have had a series of challenges with the CAL bipod.  In part, as targets are being shot at increasingly longer distances, today’s end user expectations from a bipod are increasing. Rightfully so. As such, we’ve decided to address a design element that should better address these expectations. We have stopped production and stopped shipping CAL bipods as of today June 15, 2018.  I suspect 15 – 20% of all CAL bipod users will appreciate what we are doing, but as we cannot determine who will be doing what, with our gear, we are going to satisfy that minority KNOWING the majority will be getting a better product.

We apologize for any trouble this may cause anyone and sincerely appreciate your patience.

To be clear, there is no concern about using the CALs that you own. They will safely function as designed. We are simply improving it.

We will announce when we are in production of the CAL Gen 2, as well as, the upgrade we will make available to those that own a current CAL Gen 1 and want the upgrade.

(June 2018) – The National Tactical Officers Association(NTOA) is pleased to announce that registration for the 35th Annual Law Enforcement Operations Conference & Trade Show is now open. The conference will be held at the Wisconsin Center in Milwaukee from Sept. 16 – 21, 2018, and will be co-hosted by the Association of SWAT Personnel – Wisconsin. The NTOA Law Enforcement Operations Conference brings together internationally renowned instructors, cutting-edge approaches to challenges faced by officers, a first-class two-day trade show and the opportunity to network and learn from peers over a six-day period. The conference features more than 70 courses, including seminars and practical tracks, and several contemporary incident debriefs. Topics include leadership, team management, risk mitigation, current case law and emerging trends in tactics.
