Dual-Function Rechargeable Light is Intrinsically Safe; Permits Hands-Free Use

MAGNETEAGLEVILLE, PA, December 4, 2017 – Streamlight® Inc., a leading provider of high-performance lighting, introduced the Dualie® Rechargeable Magnet, a lithium ion battery-powered rechargeable LED flashlight that is safety rated for use in Division 1 environments. The new dual-function light features both a forward-facing spot beam and side-facing flood light for use individually or simultaneously for optimizing navigation and eliminating blind spots. The new light also can be used hands free through the use of integrated magnets that grab onto steel surfaces.

The Dualie Rechargeable Magnet features opposing switches for easy, one-handed beam operation. It includes an integrated, non-protruding, spring-loaded belt clip that conforms to the light’s body, while easily grabbing onto shirts, pockets and other gear for hands-free use.  Two integrated magnets, one on the top of the clip and the other on its tail end, provide easy attachment to metal surfaces for hands-free lighting.  

The new light features three output modes. Its LED spot beam enables technicians to illuminate objects at a distance, such as overhead pipes or utilities, while its LED flood beam is designed for close-up work. The two beams also can be used together to create an uninterrupted light pattern that delivers 275 lumens for enhanced safety.

Featuring two white power LEDs, the light’s spot beam features a smooth parabolic reflector for a tight beam with optimum peripheral illumination, while the flood beam produces a wide, soft beam for illuminating work areas.  In spot mode, the light delivers 180 lumens, 11,500 candela and a 171-meter beam distance; in flood mode, it offers 105 lumens, 60 candela and an 18-meter beam distance.  When used together, the two intersecting beams provide 275 lumens.

Run times for the Dualie Rechargeable Magnet are 7.25 hours for spot mode, 13.5 hours for flood mode, and 5.5 hours when the beams are combined.

The new light is powered by a 2600 mAh lithium ion battery that fully recharges in eight hours in a convenient charging base. Fabricated from an impact and chemical-resistant Engineered Polymer resin that is virtually indestructible and non-conductive, it features a body with a rocky stipple texture for a sure grip and maximum hand comfort.  The light measures 7.5 inches long and weighs 7.09 ounces.

The Dualie Rechargeable Magnet is IP67-rated for dust-tight and waterproof operation to one meter for 30 minutes, and is impact-resistant tested to 2 meters. It has an operating temperature range of -20°F to +130°F, permitting usage under a wide variety of weather conditions. 

The new light has an MSRP that ranges from $100-$125, depending on the configuration, and is available in high visibility yellow or black. It is available with an optional rubber helmet or mounting clip for use with hard hats, and comes with Streamlight’s Limited Lifetime Warranty.

WHY NET NEUTRALITY SHOULD BE A NATIONAL PRIORITY

The FCC, under the leadership of FCC CHAIR AJIT Pai’s, would like to repeal net neutrality – in our view a colossal error in judgment and I’d like to encourage all of you to get on the phone and ask your Congressman or Congresswomen to prevent that from happening. The Internet is national critical infrastructure serving medical services, finance, e-commerce, government, businesses and individuals. Mr. Pai an attorney, and formerly Associate General Counsel at Verizon Communications Inc., would like to reclassify common carriers, like Verizon, as information providers. Since divestiture, it’s been an ambition of common carriers to provide more than voice and data services; in fact, they’ve been salivating to get into the content provider business.

In and of itself this is a non-issue specifically because net neutrality is a regulatory requirement. Without getting into a lot of technical jargon, net neutrality simply states that the internet service providers and common carriers must prioritize all data equally. Eliminating net neutrality means that a common carrier can selectively prioritize data from customers using any number of marketing and pricing models.

For example, assume you secure venture capital to start a content provider company. Your business plan accounts for competing with other providers on the basis of quality programing. Under net neutrality you are assured of having the same quality of content transport as Netflix or Verizon. However, with net neutrality eliminated Verizon can prioritize their own content over your startup company, and they can also prioritize Netflix over yours, simply because they are a larger customer.

Even more dangerous is the very real possibility that common carriers will be able to assign a lower QoS (Quality of Service – it means priority) to organizations, political candidates or any content they feel “inappropriate” or don’t agree with. A lower priority means poor video and audio quality, increased transaction response time, excessive network latency and any number of performance issues. It also opens the door to oligopoly pricing. Small ISPs would see significantly higher network costs and we the consumers will see higher prices for what amounts to poorer service.

The FCC should devote its attention to the r.f spectrum, the hackneyed cliché applies here – if it’s not broken don’t fix it. The military is in need of greater bandwidth as is commercial communications.

In closing, the FCC needs a Chair who is someone other than a suit for the common carriers. We need someone with a vision focused on the United States and its citizens, common carriers can take care of themselves and are extremely profitable.

Please call your elected officials and ask them to put the brakes on Mr. Pai’s ambitions.

Low-Altitude Authorization and Notification Capability (LAANC) Expands To 46 Airports Covering 200 Cities

As a remote pilot my biggest challenge is obtaining FAA authorization to clear airspace for operations. AirMap, based in Santa Monica, California, has been working with the FAA to implement LAANC across the United States. In a nutshell, LAANC is an FAA electronic notification system; users will receive real time clearance as opposed to the existing 30 day turnaround. As of this writing, LAANC electronic notification is now available for 46 airports, covering 200 cities, across the country. in July of 2017, I covered LAANC and AirMap and I invite you to read my post if LAANC is a new concept to you. If you’re a licensed remote pilot, LAANC is a technology that you’ll want to become familiar with.

The AirMap application is available for iOS and Android.

National Tactical Officers Association (NTOA) Releases the Fall Edition of The Tactical Edge

TALK ABOUT AN IDENTITY CRISIS !

TGIF! I don’t know about you guys but we were redlined all week long. So, I need this shoot the shit to unwind a bit. I hope you’ll join in because our shoot the shit will save you from having to pay someone who majored in psychology so they could understand themselves $150 an hour.

This is the time of the year when packages, Christmas cards etc. need to be mailed out. So, I think it was Monday, I was at the main post office, where there was a huge line. While waiting in line, I saw a postal employee, probably in his mid 60s, walked in to start his shift – no big thing! However, it’s how he walked in that was a kicker. Now check this out. He was a white male wearing mirrored sunglasses and at least a couple of chains. His right shoulder was lower than his left and his head was dipped to his right side as he walked crisscrossing his legs while swinging his right arm. He also had a small boom box with him, which was silent at the time. In a minute or two, he strolls out from the back and clocks in. In another minute or two, the line starts hearing Curtis Mayfiled’s Superfly.  This, all while he’s moving mail trays back and forth. Everybody in line had this perplexed look an their faces! PLAYER WAZ UP! LOL!  A sight to be hold without a doubt.

I remain bewildered by the abuse President Trump takes on a daily basis, it’s an embarrassment to say the least. Allegations that he’s only taking care of his rich buddies or that he’s stupid and unfit are without basis and stands as a monument to the level of stupidity in the media, and on the left. All you need to do is to take a look at his economic strategy.

What’s necessary for a successful economy and business climate…

  1. Fiscal Policy (taxes) that incentivizes capital investment and adds to consumer disposable income.
  2. Monetary policy that makes credit available to business and consumers at a low rate without igniting inflation.
  3. A regulatory environment that considers national interests without overburdening businesses and individuals

No.1 Is being addressed by his tax package and that the Senate is trying to water down.

No.2 We’ve had a prolonged period of great liquidity at low interest rates without igniting inflation.

No. 3 He’s been repealing regulations that create business impediments and make the country less competitive globally, and don’t forget renegotiating some very weak trade deals. I hope that he’ll direct his State Department to get rid of the truly ridiculous ITAR regulations that restrain many of our companies from being global juggernauts.

If this is incompetence or stupid or crazy, the individuals making those allegations should quickly find a cure for intellectual hemophilia. Mind boggling, but it’s never been about what’s good for the country, it’s about power and control.

I want to close by saying that some of you have expressed a profound dissatisfaction with your incumbent elected official. The way you deal with that issue is to elect a replacement not switch teams. Switching teams is equivalent to shooting yourself in the foot to get even with the other.

WHAT’S WRONG WITH THESE PICTURES ?

Kit Up published some great photos contributed by the 101st Airborne unit that recently received “brand spanking new” SIG SAUER M17s (a.k.a. P320). The 101st now has a great sidearm in its inventory, but pictures reveal a disturbing weakness in its pedagogy; more specifically, proper pistol handling and basic pistol marksmanship. The two pictures below illustrate two of the more obvious problems.

Notice the operator’s grip on both of these pictures. It’s quite likely that neither one of these soldiers could achieve reasonable combat accuracy at any range. A problem which works its way into a false 9mm lethality problem.

The Army does a great job with primary weapon system training but secondary weapon proficiency needs significant improvement.

U.S. Army Fields SIG SAUER® M17/M18 Pistols

Newington, NH (November 28, 2017) – Today the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) became the first unit to field the U.S. Army’s new M17 and M18 Modular Handgun System. The 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st ABN DIV (AASLT) began fielding the new handguns today at Fort Campbell, Kentucky under the command of Col. Derek K. Thomson.

“What a great day,” said Thomson.  “To witness modernization firsthand as my soldiers became the first in the Army and this storied division to fire the new pistol is an absolute honor.”

The MHS handgun is a variant of the SIG SAUER® P320® pistol and is equipped with an external safety, an integrated MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny rail for the attachment of light and laser systems, self-illuminating night sights to maintain combat effectiveness in all lighting conditions, and is capable of accepting a sound suppressor.

Ron Cohen, President and CEO of SIG SAUER, Inc., said “We are both humbled and proud that the P320 was selected by the U.S. Army as its weapon of choice. Securing this contract is a testimony to SIG SAUER employees and their commitment to innovation, quality and manufacturing the most accurate and reliable firearms in the world.”

Over the next 10 years the Army will distribute the new MHS handguns to all Army units replacing the M9 pistol, which has been in service since 1986.

“That’s pretty dated technology,” said Lt. Col. Steven Power, Project Manager Soldier Weapons, individual weapons product manager.  “The specific performance improvements of the MHS over the M9 include better accuracy, tighter dispersion, and better ergonomics, which when combined, result in a far more lethal pistol.”

“The world has changed since the strength and resilience of this division was forged during the maelstrom of World War II,” said Maj. Gen. Andrew P. Poppas, 101st ABN DIV (AASLT) commander. “In order to maintain our decisive edge, we must continue to outpace our potential adversaries with more lethal capabilities, from the modular handgun system we fielded today to the innovative and adaptive air assault concepts, equipment and training the 101st continues to perfect.”

LARRY VICKERS ON THE GLOCK 18C

Larry Vickers of Vickers Tactical is a retired US Army 1st SFOD- Delta combat veteran with years of experience in the firearms industry as a combat marksmanship instructor and industry consultant. NIDV-Symposium in Rotterdam Ahoy: “Adaptivity is key to public security”

How can Dutch public security organizations adapt to today’s rapidly-changing circumstances?
On Thursday 30 November 2017, representatives from industry, government and knowledge institutes, led by former Commander of the Royal Netherlands Army Lieutenant General (ret.) Mart de Kruif, will come together to discuss how the adaptivity of our armed forces, police and security organizations can and must ensure the safety of the public. Hans Büthker, CEO of GKN Aerospace, Gerrit den Uyl, Director of the Police Service Centre, Paul de Krom, CEO and chair of the Executive Board at TNO and Pierre Delsaux, Deputy Director-General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs with the European Commission will all share their perspectives on recent developments in this sector.
This will take place in connection with the Netherlands Industries for Defence and Security (NIDV) foundation’s 29th annual Symposium & Exhibition, to be held in the Rotterdam Ahoy conference center.
Our national security cannot be viewed as distinct from the developments taking place around us. Technology is advancing at an exponential rate and is becoming increasingly accessible for a larger group. As a result, our opponents sometimes have access to the most advanced resources. There would also seem to be few obstacles in place to prevent terrorists from obtaining these means. Governments, on the other hand, are subject to constraint in the form of a multitude of regulations.
In 2017, the challenges faced by security organizations in the Netherlands have not decreased. Partly for that reason, the Dutch government has decided to once again invest in the security of our country. This investment is vital and will offer a range of opportunities. The NIDV Symposium demonstrates how the business community can contribute to the security of the Netherlands by supplying innovative products.
About 100 companies from a dozen countries in and outside Europe will be in attendance on Thursday. There will also be plenty of opportunity for the companies to do business together. In addition, the Ministry of Defence, the Police, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will attend as exhibitors. This year’s Exhibition will pay particular attention to maritime and radar technologies, although IT, communications, simulators and sustainability will be addressed as well. In the course of a single day, all major players from the government, industry and knowledge institutes will have a chance to speak with one another.

Newington, NH (November 28, 2017) – SIG SAUER, Inc., congratulates Max Michel, captain of Team SIG, on an exceptional year of achievement and performance across 2017. Michel led Team USA to a Gold Medal at the International Practical Shooting Confederation (IPSC) Handgun World Shoot held at the National Shooting Center in Chateauroux, France on August 28 – September 2. In addition to his outstanding performance on the world stage, Michel scored superb wins on the national level as well, earning 3 national champion titles. Michel earned the Carry Optics National Champion title at 2017 USPSA SIG SAUER® Optics National Championship held at the Universal Shooting Academy in Frostproof, Florida from March 23 – 26. Michel went on to earn the Overall Champion title at the US Steel Shooting Nationals held at the South River Gun Club in Covington, Georgia from March 30 – April 1. Newington, NH (November 28, 2017) – SIG SAUER, Inc., congratulates Team SIG Shooter, Lena Miculek, for making 2017 the best year in Team SIG history with outstanding wins at the top of her shooting disciplines. She earned numerous titles throughout the 2017 season.

LenaMiculek earned the title of High Lady while competing in Pistol Caliber Carbine (PCC) with a SIG MPX® at the 2017 USPSA SIG SAUER® Optics National Championship at the Universal Shooting Academy in Frostproof, Florida on March 23-16. Miculek went on to again claim the High Lady Title at the Lucas Oil Pistol Caliber Carbine World Championship held at the Lucas Ranch in Cross Timbers, Missouri on September 1-3. Competing with her SIGM400® rifle, Miculek excelled as a member of the 1st place Ladies Open Team at the IPSC Rifle World Shoot held at Patriot Park near Moscow, Russia, competing in 30 stages against almost 600 competitors from 40 countries. Miculek also won 1st place Ladies Individual, and was the winner of the Ladies Open Shoot-off.

Miculek took home the title of High Lady at the NRA World Shooting Championship at the Peacemaker National Training Center in Glengary, West Virginia on September 13-15. The NRA World Shooting Championship is a very different style of match, forcing participants to compete in twelve different shooting disciplines using unfamiliar firearms. Proving she can compete in a variety of divisions, Miculek took home seven other titles this season.

The NTOA will offer four seminars and one full day of critical incident debriefs to registered SHOT Show attendees who serve in law enforcement or the military.

Doylestown, Pa. (November 2017) – The National Tactical Officers Association (NTOA) will once more offer SHOT Show attendees the opportunity to participate in NTOA training seminars. As part of the Law Enforcement Education Program (LEEP), participants will receive a Certificate of Attendance upon completion, confirming course participation and documenting their training. The LEEP program focuses on the most contemporary law enforcement challenges and technology advancements. A one-time registration fee of $25 gives attendees access to all 2018 LEEP courses, except for the full-day Critical Incidents Debriefs, which has a separate $89 registration fee.

Attendees must be law enforcement or military and registered through SHOT Show to attend the incident debriefs and LEEP programs.

“Our seminars continue to be sold out and are some of the most highly demanded LEEP sessions year after year during SHOT Show. This year we are returning with more seminars and have partnered with SHOT Show to offer a special full day of critical incident debriefs. Any law enforcement officer or military personnel who attends our sessions will leave with a full toolbox to help them tackle today’s pressing challenges,” commented Thor Eells, NTOA’s executive director.

NSSF PRAISES TEXAS REPS. CUELLAR, CULBERSON FOR FIX NICS LEGISLATION

NEWTOWN, Conn. — The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), the trade association for the firearms, ammunition, hunting and shooting sports industries, praised U.S. Reps. Henry Cuellar (D-Texas) and John Culberson (R-Texas) for their leadership on introducing the bipartisan H.R. 4434, the Fix NICS Act of 2017 into the House of Representatives. The legislation is a companion to an identically titled Senate bill and both drew support from both Republican and Democrat co-sponsors.

“We are deeply appreciative of both Congressmen Cuellar and Culberson to demonstrate leadership in the House of Representatives to encourage state and federal agencies to enter all applicable records in the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS),” said Lawrence G. Keane, Senior Vice President and General Counsel for the National Shooting Sports Foundation. “This legislation will offer states the necessary resources to promptly and efficiently provide disqualifying records to NICS on those who are prohibited under current law from possessing firearms. Federally licensed firearms retailers rely upon NICS to prevent the sale of firearms to prohibited persons. This legislation will fix NICS so that background checks are accurate and reliable.”

The bipartisan House of Representatives legislation would ensure federal and state authorities comply with existing law and accurately report relevant criminal history and mental health records to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS). The bill penalizes federal agencies who fail to properly report relevant records and incentivizes states to improve their overall reporting. The bill also directs more federal funding to the accurate reporting of domestic violence records.

Fixing NICS has long been a top priority for NSSF. The FixNICS® campaign was launched by the firearms industry in 2013 when the industry examined how many states were failing to fully submit prohibiting mental health and other disqualifying records to NICS. Since then, NSSF’s work has resulted in reforms being adopted in 16 states and a 170 percent increase in records submission, to 4.5 million in 2013 up from only from 1.7 million in 2013.  Several states, and as tragically learned through recent events, some federal agencies, still are not fully participated in submitting records to keep firearms from those prohibited from purchasing them.

Congressman Cuellar praised the bipartisan effort that offers promise to strengthening existing laws and keep firearms from prohibited persons.

“Following the horrific shooting that occurred in my district, in Sutherland Springs, Texas, there is a call to action to prevent this kind of tragedy from happening again. But many call for new laws often without considering whether or not current laws are being enforced,” Congressman Cuellar said. “Today, we introduced bipartisan legislation that will fill in the gaps in NICS that led to tragedies like the one in Sutherland Springs. The FIX NICS Act is an example of both parties in both chambers of Congress working together to set aside partisan politics and offer real solutions to the American people.”

Congressman Culberson pointed to the fact this legislation is intended to bolster existing law, the common ground on which both parties should agree.

“Had existing law been enforced, the horrific tragedy in Sutherland Springs, Texas would have never occurred. The pure negligence of criminal history reporting into the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) must end,” said Rep. Culberson. “I’m honored to join my fellow Texas legislators, Senator John Cornyn and Rep. Henry Cuellar on the Fix NICS Act and am greatly encouraged at the bipartisan effort to hold federal and state authorities accountable to existing law. I urge my fellow colleagues in Congress to support this critical, lifesaving piece of legislation.”

IWI US opens up position for Director of Sales to lead sales strategy for continued sales growth through existing and new sales channels.

Harrisburg, Pa. (November 2017) – IWI US, Inc., a subsidiary of Israel Weapon Industries (IWI) Ltd., announces that the position of Director of Sales is open to qualified candidates. As the Director of Sales, the candidate’s role will be to create, define, establish and execute the sales strategy for continued sales growth through existing and new sales channels. IWI US is looking for a leader who will continue to strengthen and drive the IWI brand and provide increased sales and profitability. This individual will report to the CEO and will be responsible for a number of tasks.

“The position of Director of Sales for IWI US is a key position within the company, requiring leadership and professionalism coupled with industry and business experience, in order to take IWI US to the next level,” Casey Flack, CEO of IWI US stated. “This individual will work closely with me to forecast sales and continue to grow our market share in the commercial and law enforcement markets.”

Any candidate must have a Bachelor’s Degree in business, business management, marketing or related field and ten years of industry sales experience with at least five years managing a sales team. The candidate must have a firm understanding of the firearms market and trends, have an existing network of industry contacts and excellent interpersonal skills. Experience with commercial, law enforcement and military sales is necessary and international experience will be considered a plus. The candidate must demonstrate strong process development and leadership skills while developing effective working relationships with staff, peers and industry colleagues/contacts in a team environment.

The Director of Sales for IWI US will also be required to travel an estimated 30 percent or more of the year with international travel included. Additionally, the candidate will be required to manage, direct and monitor the activities of all sales and marketing personnel, prepare sales and marketing budgets, sales forecasts, allocate customer shipments, attend industry trade shows and establish relationships with industry partners, customers and retail channels. As part of the Director of Sales promotional activities, he/she must also manage all aspects of trade show activities and work with industry media and outlets.

MILIPOL 2017, Paris, France: the new ground control station developed by Delair and ECA Group, French specialists in civil, defense and security mini-drones, is changing the game for collaborative drone missions.

To succeed in drone-based security missions, the ground control station (GCS), is a decisive element, since it allows the operator to ensure its effectiveness.

Partners since 2016, Delair and ECA Group have co-developed this new generation of ground station (GCS). The objective is to operate both the product family of the UAV IT180 (mini-drone vertical take-off and landing) as well as the family of Delair drones, including the DT26X (mini-drone with fixed wing).

Fixed-wing UAVs, such as the DT26X, and rotary-wing UAVs, such as the IT180, are complementary and can therefore be used together on missions; The first will ensure the surveillance of an area and the second will intervene in support in case of detection of a threat.

“Thanks to the new GCS, collaborative drone missions are gaining considerably in performance. This type of mission now becomes easier to manage via a single interface and by a single operator. With the new ground station the intervention forces gain especially in precision of information and intervention reactivity.”, says Francis Duruflé, sales manager for Aerial Drones business at ECA Group.
“The new multiplatform ground station will also allow its users to optimize the training of their UAV pilot crews as well as the ability for the same pilot to switch from one drone to another in a very intuitive way. This is a first in the French mini-drone industry and will allow Delair and ECA Group to offer innovative solutions for complex multi-drone operations, and thus increase their relevance in the future.
