NDIA statement on the death of Brent Scowcroft

ARLINGTON, VA — The National Defense Industrial Association mourns the passing of retired Air Force Lt. Gen. and two-time former National Security Adviser Brent Scowcroft, who died Thursday, Aug. 6, at his home in Falls Church, VA. He was 95.
Scowcroft served as national security adviser to Presidents Gerald Ford and George H.W. Bush, the only person to be appointed to the position under two different administrations.
The Bush administration’s successful international strategy for the Persian Gulf War can be attributed to Scowcroft’s oversight, planning and leadership. Additionally, his clear-eyed understanding of international affairs and the tools of statecraft were a key part of the Bush administration’s peaceful winding-down of the Cold War and the first bloodless reunification of Germany in history.
Though Scowcroft served under Republican administrations, it was his bipartisan, coalition-building approach to foreign policy that set a high standard for the position of national security adviser. As an Air Force warrior and as a statesman, he strove for the ultimate goal, a better peace.
Scowcroft received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor, in 1991. In 1993, Queen Elizabeth II named him a Knight Commander of the British Empire.
NDIA salutes Brent Scowcroft for his dedication to freedom and justice for all. We honor his passing and extend condolences to his family, friends and those who served with him.

H&K adds the SP5K to the SP5 line.

The SP5K-PDW is semi-automatic civilian sporting version of the ultimate close quarters weapon – The HK MP5K. The “K” designation is from the German word for short – kurz; thus the K model’s shorter barrel and receiver.

But no matter the size, all SP5 and MP5 models share the same HK roller-delayed blowback operating system, which is legendary for its accuracy, reliability, and smooth shooting dynamic. Originally perfected on the Heckler & Koch G3 rifle, this system has been used on many HK firearms still deployed around the world.

The SP5K-PDW was designed and manufactured to meet the definition of a civilian pistol. It is loaded with authentic features, like a 4.5” barrel with Navy-style threaded tri-lug adaptor, paddle magazine release, and fluted chamber.

The SP5K-PDW is manufactured in Heckler & Koch’s factory in Oberndorf, Germany. It retains many of the critical elements of the MP5 and MP5K, including its precision-machined components and attention to detail. This high level of quality and workmanship is a result of making civilian SP5 variants in the same factory, on the same lines, and by the same workforce that has been making MP5s for years.

SpearUAV Unveils Ninox – a Unique Encapsulated Drone System for Instant ISTAR Capabilities

N_40

Immediately launched and intuitively operated, the encapsulated drone system provides an on-demand, on-the-move, instant drone intelligence capability for ground, air and naval forces

6 August 2020, SpearUAV – an innovative company that develops and supplies unique UAS solutions for defense and HLS applications – has unveiled its Ninox family of encapsulated drones. Instantly launched and intuitively operated, the drones provide on-demand and on-the-move intelligence capabilities that create new dimensions on the battlefield.

Compared to traditional drones of similar capabilities, Ninox offers both operational affordability and flexibility: the drones can be launched manually or from a grenade launcher by individual soldiers, from a stationary or mobile land platform, or from an aerial or maritime system. Ruggedized and built to withstand extreme environmental conditions and vibrations, Ninox is available in a range of drone and capsule sizes, and can be easily customized to meet customer requirements.

Requiring no deployment, the Ninox system comprises a drone, launched at high speed from the weapon, which then immediately unfolds and stabilizes in the air without operator intervention. There are currently three solutions in the Ninox family: Ninox 40, Ninox 66 and Ninox 103.

Ninox 40

Specifically designed for single-user operation, this micro-tactical drone system features an encapsulated drone and control unit. Weighing under 250g – within regulatory limitations – it is lightweight enough to be incorporated into the soldier’s vest and carried on the person during combat. The Ninox 40 has a flight capacity of up to 40 minutes, extensive ISTAR capabilities, day and night camera for enhanced situational awareness, automatic tracking, and can be launched on the move and from under cover.

Ninox 66

Ready for use at the press of a button, this tactical multi-drone system has been designed for launch from stationary and mobile platforms, such as MBT, IFV and more, even on the move. Simple to operate, the Ninox 66 enables the operator to direct the payload without requiring drone piloting skills. It features swarm, mesh and computer vision capabilities, automatic target tracking, homing algorithms and more. With up to 50 minutes’ flight time, and capable of carrying payloads of up to 700g in wind speeds of up to 20 knots, this ruggedized system can withstand harsh weather and battle conditions.

Ninox 103

With a ruggedized composite airframe, the Ninox 103 is a state-of-the-art encapsulated drone designed for strategic-tactical uses and instant launch with payloads of up to 1.5 kg from large scale air, sea and land platforms. Intuitive and easy to use, it can achieve up to 60 minutes’ flight time, in wind speeds of up to 20 knots, and features the most advanced capabilities, including swarm, mesh, computer vision, target tracking and homing algorithms.

“The Ninox systems were developed as a direct response to the need of military forces for immediate intelligence capabilities,” says Gadi Kuperman, Founder and CEO of Spear. “Our solutions are designed to provide the end user with the most effective way to achieve immediate tactical superiority on today’s chaotic battlefield. This is a groundbreaking technology that will revolutionize the battlefield, enabling forces to use drones as standard kit. We are proud that our company’s solutions are already in advanced stages of review by the Israel Ministry of Defense.”

NSSF Statement on New York Attorney General’s Intent to Dissolve the National Rifle Association

For immediate release | August 6, 2020

NEWTOWN, Conn. – NSSF®, the trade association for the firearm industry, is troubled by the politically-driven decision of New York Attorney General Letitia James to seek to dissolve the National Rifle Association, America’s oldest civil rights organization. The lawsuit filed today by Attorney General James seeks to punish the over five million members of the National Rifle Association based on mere allegations of possible wrongdoing by a few individuals.

NSSF is deeply concerned about the apparent political agenda to silence the strongest voice in support of the Second Amendment ahead of the election in November.

This lawsuit, and one filed today by the District of Columbia Attorney General, should concern all Americans who cherish both the First and Second Amendments to our Constitution regardless of their views on what laws and regulations are appropriate to address the criminal misuse of firearms.

Competition Season Continuing Strong for Federal Ambassador Dakota Overland and Team Federal

ANOKA, Minnesota – August 6, 2020 – Federal brand ambassador and competitive shooter Dakota Overland takes home the Ladies Division title at the recent 2020 Magpul Governor’s Match in Cody, Wyoming. The teenager bested 15 other female competitors in that Division and finished 13th overall at the event.
“It was always a goal of mine to win the Ladies Division, plus perform well overall. I was happy to have done both. The most challenging part of this match was the requirement to use a Pistol Caliber Carbine (PCC). That type of rifle is not a gun I typically use or practice with. There was a bit of an adjustment and relearning curve with it,” reported Overland. “However, Federal Syntech PCC 130-grain 9mm ammo is specifically designed for the PCC platform. I knew it would eliminate potential problems with running the firearm. It honestly helped my comfort level at this match.”
In addition to shooting the Syntech PCC ammunition, Overland used Gold Medal Grand shotshells, American Eagle Rifle 55-grain 223 Rem., and Gold Medal Rifle 69-grain .223 Rem during the match and her practice sessions.
“This match was quite large. I saw many people observing, who want to try out the sport,” said Overland. “I want all those to know that competitive shooters love getting new people involved. If you’re looking to get into the sport, come and watch a local match! You can meet people and get started on the right path for gear and knowing what to expect.”
Also, during this match, several Team Federal sponsored shooters had top-15 finishes. Sean Burrows placed 8th in the 2×4 Optics Division. Tucker Schmidt placed 8th in the Open Division. Jake Latola placed 11th in the Optics Division.
“We congratulate Dakota and all members on Team Federal for a great match and representing Federal in such a big way,” said Federal Senior Manager of Marketing Brian Anderson. “Their enthusiasm and passion for the brand speaks volumes.”
Federal ammunition can be found at dealers nationwide or purchased online direct from Federal. For more information on all products from Federal or to shop online, visit http://www.federalpremium.com.

Blackhawk™ Introduces T-Series™ L2C Holsters for Colt 1911 and Springfield XD

Blackhawk_Logo_Black_LG

  L2C_1911_and_XD_5 (low-res)

Duty-Rated Level 2 Compact Holsters Available for Colt 1911 and Springfield XD

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – August 6, 2020 – Blackhawk™, a leader in law enforcement, military and shooting sports for over 25 years, announced today that it has expanded its popular line of T-Series holsters with the introduction of the Level 2 Compact (L2C) models specifically engineered to accommodate Colt 1911 and Springfield XD pistols.

The new dual-injected molded holsters are available in a right-hand configuration. Like previously introduced Blackhawk models, the L2C holster is designed to provide users a compact holster with level 2 retention. Each holster model is standard with a new speed cut to help with a faster draw and features a low-profile design for ease of concealment. The L2C holster is also RDS-compatible, giving users the ability to add a red dot to their carry firearm.

Blackhawk L2C holsters are duty-rated and come standard with an all-new Quick Dual Release (QDR) attachment method. Using an intuitive button release, the QDR allows the holster to be easily added and removed from a belt without weaving it through traditional belt loops. The QDR can easily accommodate belts ranging from 1.5 to 2.25 inches. In addition to the QDR attachment, all T-Series L2C holsters come standard with a 2-slot belt loop. The 2-slot belt loop has an asymmetrical design that tucks the grip of the handgun towards the body for improvement in concealment.

As the world’s first thumb driven, dual-injected molded holster, each T-Series holster is standard with a soft touch inner layer that is both super slick and sound-dampening. This durable and efficient, low-friction design translates into a smooth, quiet draw or re-holstering of the sidearm.

Designed to follow Blackhawk’s Master Grip Principle, all T-Series holsters have been specifically developed to allow the user’s hand to land naturally where it should in order to deploy the sidearm.

For more information on the new L2C holsters for the Colt 1911 and Springfield XD pistols, or to view the complete line of T-Series holsters, visit www.blackhawk.com.

Booz Teeze!!

Beirut has suffered a catastrophe that will live long in the ...

It’s Friday and as we wrap up the week, we ask you to keep the Lebanese people in mind after the disastrous warehouse explosion at their port. It killed 135 people injured over 5,000 and left 300,000 homeless. Beirut, is the Paris of the Middle East and its people are absolutely great. If you’re Lebanese you’ll know what Booz Teeze is but I think my spelling is questionable. Don’t be pissed, grab a bottle of Arak and drink it straight; if you survive, there won’t be a single coronavirus in your blood stream! Whether you are Lebanese or not, I hope you had a good week.

If you did not have a good week, you may be tempted to visit a therapist or worse yet use a behavioral iOS or Android app. Stop! Remember that you are going to pay a therapist, a jackass who majored in psychology so they could understand themselves, $150 per hour. If you use an app, you’re probably communicating with someone in the Communist Chinese Party who is going to try to convince you that your guilt and anger comes from not buying Chinese product. Always remember that the largest concentration of licensed psychologists are in California and New York, which accounts for the fact that as their citizens flee the two States and get to a new destination they continue to vote the same way they did in California and New York and expect a different result.

Instead of therapy what you need is a good shoot the shit. What is a shoot the shit?

It’s a social interaction in which the participants don’t need to know anything about the topic being discussed, they are free to make any unsupported statement, use uncensured profanity, insult anyone they wish or change the subject altogether. So, let’s get started.

For this week’s shoot the shit I’d like to talk about the the Beirut explosion. I have no specific knowledge of the event and everything that I’m going to say is conjecture triggered by a 2 second slice of the aired video. There are also things that don’t make sense to me.

The compound credited for the massive explosion is ammonium nitrate. This is a chemical used in the production of explosives, fertilizers and pharmaceuticals. Unlike dynamite, ammonium nitrate (AN) does not sweat so it doesn’t need to be rotated and it is water soluble. At greater than 200C, which is 392F, it will start to decompose; at this point its temperature increases becoming unstable, and there may be a runaway reaction. Sitting in a warehouse does not create the conditions needed for an explosion. Ammonium nitrate requires an ignition source and it’s usually mixed with fuel oil, aluminum or sugar to create an explosive compound. It’s actually pretty stable stuff. Based on information released by the Lebanese Government, the 2,750 metric tons were seized by authorities in 2013 and stored in their warehouse.

Interestingly enough, they didn’t dump it in the ocean where it would have dissolved, they store it in a waterfront warehouse for 7 years. So, if you ask me, this may have been a slight of hand approach to bringing in 2,750 metric tons of the stuff into the country without attracting attention, just a wild guess. Fast forward to 2020…

We also know that Lebanon’s President Michel Aoun and Hezbollah have formed an alliance and that Hezbollah has launched numerous attacks against Israel from Lebanon. So having 2,750 metric tons of a compound used in explosives sitting in the warehouse and accessible to Hezbollah may have represented a significant threat to Israeli national security.

If you watch one of the explosion videos, it showed the side of a warehouse where you can see what appears to be three timed sequence flashes just before the explosion.

So here’s my theory. The fire in the warehouse was diversionary to create cover for the three timed ignitions. As to who did it?

Hezbollah has been a threat to a number of Middle Eastern countries UAE, Saudi Arabia, Israel, Jordan and 2,750 metric tons of ammonium nitrate sitting in a Hezbollah controlled warehouse was likely a national security concern for any of these countries. I don’t believe this was a act of God, negligence or some minor functionary snockered on Arak.

Have a great weekend, be safe, keep your sweat pumps in low speed and schedule your own shoot the shit, it’s a great way to deal with those pesky stressors.

The steel helmet has evolved, introducing a revolutionary, high-performance, ballistic helmet now available from Diamond Age.

McKinney, Texas (August 2020) – Texas-based, materials science and ballistics specialists, Diamond Age, have unveiled their latest addition to the tactical helmet market with the introduction of the groundbreaking new NeoSteel™ Helmet, a modular designed tactical-style helmet comprised of the most technologically advanced metal alloys.

Revolutionary in design, function, and material capability, the NeoSteel Helmet is an evolution in personal protection. Designed to meet the ever-changing needs of police and military personnel, including reserves and auxiliaries, the NeoSteel Helmet is the result of years of scientific research and development to ensure a high level of ballistic performance (VPAM-3 + Special Threats) at the lightest possible weight with all-day comfort and balance characteristics.

Diamond Age CEO, Jake Ganor, commented, “We are thrilled to be unveiling the NeoSteel Helmet to our law enforcement, security, rescue, contractor, and personal defense customers. Not since the original combat helmets have we seen such a huge step forward in protective tactical helmets. The NeoSteel Helmet is a metallurgical milestone. It’s what the M1 steel-pot helmet would have evolved into, had it not been abandoned in favor of the K-Pot helmet.”

During the NeoSteel Helmet R&D, it underwent rigorous developmental testing for ballistic impact and Diamond Age is proud to announce the NeoSteel Helmet offers best-in-class performance for minimal backface deformation (BFD) and impact trauma. Unlike current polymer-based helmets, the NeoSteel is also environmentally stable, providing users years of consistent rim-to-rim protection, without material degradation that would severely compromise protection performance.

“We’re confident that the NeoSteel Helmet hits the mark as the world’s toughest combat helmet. Development of leading-edge ballistic equipment is our single purpose and our testing has shown the NeoSteel to be capable of withstanding tremendous operational damage before its form or function is compromised,” Ganor added.

Diamond Age will soon offer accessories and attachments for the NeoSteel Helmet. Now available in Black, Green, or Tan and in Medium or Large/Extra-Large for an MSRP of $195.00.

1,078 Coins in Three Days

Hundreds of Hammered Coins Discovered in UK Farm Field

European metal detector dealer and friends dig 1,078 silver coins in three days

Chicago, IL (August 3, 2020) – Luke Mahoney was walking slowly across a field in an undisclosed location of the UK last month, swinging his metal detector from side to side, when a clear Beep… Beep… Beep came through his earphones. After hundreds of hours listening to his machine “talk” to him, Mahoney knew this particular sound meant his coil had passed over a nice coin. He carefully eased his digging tool into the ground and brought the target to the surface. Mahoney had just unearthed a silver, hammered coin dating back to somewhere in the 15th to the 17th century.

Anyone who has ever owned a metal detector has dreamed of making such a discovery, but outstanding finds take more than luck. The first requirement is a good metal detector. Mahoney is fortunate in that respect. He is the owner of Joan Allen Metal Detectors, in existence since 1968 and one of the largest metal detector dealers in Europe. As such, he can pick from a wide variety of brands and models. For his personal hunting, Mahoney uses a Minelab Equinox 800, a machine he knows will do everything he needs to make great discoveries.

In addition to luck and a highly capable metal detector, unearthing exciting and valuable finds requires productive hunting territory. Detecting in the United Kingdom and other parts of Europe helps in that regard. The continent has thousands of years of history, and untold numbers of coins, relics, and artifacts have been lost, buried and forgotten over these centuries. Just wandering around swinging a metal detector could bring that machine in contact with some of these treasures, but careful research can greatly increase one’s odds of being lucky. This is one way people like Luke Mahoney consistently uncover ancient sites to search. He has only been detecting for about 10 years, but has learned the proper way to do things.

Mahoney’s silver hammered coin was discovered near a site where his friend, Dan Hunt, had earlier found a remarkable, 2,000-year-old gold coin. “I just had a feeling the nearby farm owned by my friend was a good possibility for more discoveries,” says Mahoney, who continued covering the ground with his search coil after finding the first silver coin. His Equinox beeped again. And again. He began seeing more hammered coins on top of the soil.

Knowing he had just made an outstanding discovery, Mahoney called his friends, Matthew Brown and Dan Hunt, over to help. “I always enjoy hunting with friends. It makes things more exciting when you find something,” he shares. The duo immediately raced over to see what was happening, and Mahoney excitedly showed the men what he had found.

The pace quickened as the men listened to their machines sound off. Some targets were shallow, while others were buried up to 18 inches in the soil. Even at this great depth, Mahoney’s Minelab Equinox 800 – equipped with Multi-IQ simultaneous multi-frequency technology – gave solid signals, clearly identifying the objects as coins.

The only unfortunate part about having a detector capable of reaching these depths is the digging involved to uncover the targets. Imagine pinpointing a target, then digging 12 to 18 inches down to find it. Then, digging again, and again, and again. Great care must be taken while digging so deeply, as hammered coins and other artifacts can be surprisingly brittle and break easily. You certainly don’t want to destroy a treasure by being careless. “I was still sore from the digging several days later,” Mahoney admits.

Minelab Equinox 800

Sometimes the coins were uncovered one at a time. Other times, a shovel full of dirt would bring up a handful of coins. The total kept mounting. Most of the targets were found in a concentrated area, but continued to be found in lesser numbers farther away. “It appears the coins were placed in pots and buried,” Mahoney speculates. “Then, a plow came through the field and spread them all over.”

Incredibly, the first day of digging brought over 1,000 silver, hammered coins to the light of day. The men had been fueled by their excitement, but eventually hit a wall of fatigue. The search was suspended until the following day.

Some additional coins were found over the following two days of detecting, but the majority had already been discovered. All told, the men had recovered an astonishing 1,078 coins.

Mahoney’s research suggested the location of the discovered hoard was once the site of a 400- to 600-year-old military encampment. “I believe the coins were buried in pots as payroll money for the troops,” he says. “When I began searching, I scraped away the dirt and found stacks of silver coins – big stacks of silver coins – surrounded by broken, glazed pots.”

Mahoney is still cataloguing his massive find, and its value has yet been determined. To him, it’s priceless, the value of which can only be exceeded by the personal rewards of the experience itself. That experience is why he detects, and why he chooses to make his living as a metal detector dealer, helping others to find success in making their own personal discoveries. “I love the thrill and excitement of detecting,” he relates, “and helping to support the passions and pursuits of other treasure hunters is almost as rewarding.”

Like others who seek the treasures of history, Luke Mahoney will celebrate his find, but only briefly. The research will soon resume as he continues his quest to find the next hoard of ancient treasures.

Rock Around the Clock with Galco! PART 1

Stow-N-Go Inside the Pant Holster

PHOENIX, July 2020
Holster choice, and particularly the exact positioning on the body, is intensely personal. What’s comfortable, fast and concealable for one gun carrier may not work at all for another. That’s why Galco offers holsters for just about every position on the body, and even includes a helpful “body clock” diagram on most package labels and website product details.
Carry at the appendix position, roughly 12 o’clock to 2 o’clock for a right-handed shooter, has rapidly increased in popularity over the last decade. Galco has, of course, kept up with the trend and makes multiple holsters suitable for this carry
method. The newest of these is the
Paragon™ Kydex IWB, which is optimized for appendix carry. But many other Galco holsters are suitable for this position, including the new QuickTuk Cloud™, Scout 3.0™, Stow-N-Go™, Triton™ 2.0 and Tuck-N-Go™ 2.0 IWBs. For those who prefer OWB holsters, the Hornet™ is designed to be perfect for both appendix and crossdraw carry.
Carrying a handgun on the point of the strong hip, at about 3 o’clock, has been a popular choice for many years. Holsters with vertical angle (or neutral cant) are best suited for this method, and Galco has it covered with holsters like the
Avenger™, BlakGuard™, Halo™, Quick Slide™, TacSlide™ and Yaqui Slide.
The vertically-oriented IWBs suitable for appendix carry are also very useful in this position. None of these guidelines are written in stone, of course, and once again it comes back to the personal preferences of the shooter. Some gun carriers will, for example, place an Avenger in front of their hip and be perfectly happy with it. If that works most comfortably and efficiently with their body type, Galco fully supports them!
Finally, many Galco holsters can be adjusted for angle, from crossdraw to vertical to strongside, at the user’s discretion. This makes them the most versatile of all.

SIG SAUER RENEWS TIER 3 SPONSORSHIP OF ASA

a4c46b03-aecf-4cfe-9d00-5d5cf0b38c99

NEWINGTON, NH – The American Suppressor Association (ASA), the unified voice of the suppressor community, is pleased to announce that Sig Sauer is returning as a Tier 3 sponsor of ASA for 2020. Headquartered in Newington, New Hampshire, Sig Sauer is a leading manufacturer of suppressors, firearms, ammunition, optics, and electronics.

“Sig Sauer is always on the front line to help protect our 2nd Amendment rights for lawful ownership of firearms and all things related to productive and safe usage”, said Tom Taylor, Chief Marketing Officer and Executive Vice President, Commercial Sales, Sig Sauer.  “We feel that suppressors are not only our right, but are an integral part of making a firearm more productive and safe for professionals, every day defensive and recreational shooters, and hunters.  We will continue to support pushing positive suppressor legislation forward as well as innovation to continually improve performance and safety for civilians and professionals.”

The American Suppressor Association began working with Sig Sauer in 2016, during New Hampshire’s fight to legalize the use of suppressors while hunting. The efforts proved successful, largely due to Sig’s involvement, when then Gov. Maggie Hassan signed House Bill 500 into law. Since 2019, Bobby Cox, Sig’s Vice President of Government Affairs has served as an active member of the ASA Board of Directors.

“Sig Sauer has proven to be a tremendously effective ally in our fight for pro-suppressor reform,” said Knox Williams, President and Executive Director of ASA. “At both the state and federal levels, Sig has always answered the call to help do the right thing when it comes to Second Amendment and suppressor related advocacy. As a leader in the industry, the insight, experience, and expertise that Sig brings to the table is second to none. The American Suppressor Association is proud to have Sig on our team!”

About The American Suppressor Association

The American Suppressor Association (ASA) is the unified voice of the suppressor community. We exist for one reason and one reason only: to fight for pro-suppressor reform nationwide.

The ability of the American Suppressor Association to fight for pro-suppressor reform is tied directly to our ability to fundraise. Since the ASA’s formation in 2011, 3 states have legalized suppressor ownership and 18 states have legalized suppressor hunting. Much of this would not have happened without your support. For more information on how you can join us in the fight to help protect and expand your right to own and use suppressors, visit www.AmericanSuppressorAssociation.com.

White House Celebrates National Shooting Sports Month

NEWTOWN, Conn. – NSSF®, the trade association for the firearm industry, is proud to share the Presidential Message on National Shooting Sports Month® 2020, in which President Donald Trump commemorates “…our Constitutional right to bear arms by celebrating America’s cherished past time of recreational and competitive shooting sports.” National Shooting Sports Month was developed by NSSF to celebrate, share and invite newcomers and grow participation in the shooting sports.

The Presidential Message recognizes America’s “rich history of fostering responsible gun ownership.” President Trump notes in his message the shooting sports’ history of community events early in the nation’s growth, bringing communities and families together. Those competitions grew and gave rise to 19th century sharpshooters, including Pawnee Bill and Annie Oakley celebrating shooting skills and a national pioneering character.

The White House message, issued during a time of record-setting firearm sales, encourages Americans to participate in the shooting sports, practice safe firearm storage and handling and seek proper instruction. President Trump reiterated his commitment to preserving and safeguarding America’s Second Amendment rights and individual liberties.

“Since my first day in office, I have made clear that my Administration will always protect and defend the Second Amendment,” President Trump wrote in his message. “We will continue to oppose those individuals and policies that attempt to tread on this essential and cherished liberty.”

The President also encouraged all Americans to share their valued shooting sports traditions with others.

“NSSF is honored President Trump recognizes and celebrates the shooting sports with all law-abiding Americans,” said Joe Bartozzi, NSSF President and Chief Executive Officer. “The firearm industry is proud of the safe and responsible example of today’s gun owners who participate in these cherished traditions and the vital role they play in teaching and reinforcing the safe and responsible ownership of firearms.”

The entire Presidential Message on National Shooting Sports Month 2020 can be found here.

SHOT Show Insider: SHOT Show All Systems Go; Silver Lining in CES Cancellation

Caesars Forum

Welcome to the latest SHOT Show Insider, written by the SHOT Show team at NSSF and our show partners to keep you informed about plans for the upcoming show as well as provide you with useful insider tips on how to have a more productive SHOT Show experience. Let us know what topics you’d like to see addressed here in upcoming issues by emailing us at shotshowinsider@nssf.org.

Chris Dolnack, NSSF

CES, the nation’s largest trade show, announced this week that it is canceling its in-person show in Las Vegas this January. With many of its major exhibitors—and its attendees—based in Asia and other parts of the world, the show was confronting increasing uncertainty involving global travel to and from the United States. If there’s a silver lining to the CES announcement, it’s that CES was to be held the week before the SHOT Show—and while we are disappointed that CES won’t be taking place, its cancellation will allow more local resources than ever before to be devoted to the SHOT Show. And both the Sands Expo Center and Caesars Forum will be primed and ready to welcome us to Las Vegas. We’ve received a number of inquiries this week about the status of the SHOT Show due to CES’s announcement, and also regarding the cancellation of the NASGW Expo in October. Rest assured, we are all systems go and we are working around the clock (our sleep patterns these days) in planning to ensure our customers’ and employees’ health and safety are at the forefront throughout our time in Las Vegas. With six months until the show, we are fortunate that we will be able to learn a lot from other shows taking place in other countries before ours. And, with six months to go, both the Sands Expo and Caesars Forum are nearly sold out for SHOT, making it our largest floorplan ever. We are well-positioned to make this the best SHOT Show we’ve ever held, and we are very much looking forward to reuniting as an industry in Las Vegas in January.

10 great reasons to celebrate the target shooting sports and enjoy special events

NEWTOWN, Conn. – America’s millions of first-time firearm owners will find National Shooting Sports Month® in August a great time to pursue training and learn about the dozens of target shooting sports they can enjoy with their newly purchased firearm.

Developed by NSSF®, the firearm industry trade association, National Shooting Sports Month reminds everyone—newcomers as well as experienced gun owners—about the safe, fun, exciting activity of target shooting. It’s a pastime more than 52 million Americans, adults and youth, engage in.

What about the coronavirus? Whether you visit an outdoor or indoor range, target shooting is an activity where social distancing can be followed relatively easily. Also, the shooting sports are well-suited to socializing while heeding your state and local coronavirus safety guidelines.

Here’s 10 great reasons to head to the range during National Shooting Sports Month:

1.+ONESM Movement

There are many reasons more than 2.5 million people joined the firearm-owning community so far in 2020. Without a doubt, many were introduced to ownership and target shooting by a mentor. NSSF’s +ONE Movement encourages experienced shooters to be a mentor and help even more newcomers discover how to safely handle a firearm and have fun knocking knock down steel plates or breaking a clay targets. Have novices watch this video on Range Safety and Etiquette before they go.

2. Summer Shots Target

Participate in the all-new #RangeChallengeSM, a series of target games that test your marksmanship skills. The #RangeChallenge: Summer Shots target is available at participating ranges and online for download. Use the hashtag #RangeChallenge to share your experience on social media and be entered into a weekly social media giveaway to win great prizes. See instructions for complete details.

3. #LetsGoShooting

We’ve got another hashtag for you. #LetsGoShooting is the theme of National Shooting Sports Month. Share the hashtag and your experiences on your favorite social media networks and remind others to head out to the range for a day of fun and socializing. Discover the fun other target shooters are having at the range by following the #LetsGoShooting feeds.

4. A date at the range

Ask your spouse, partner, boyfriend or girlfriend to go target shooting with you. You’ll have a great time together. Send an email invitation to them at LetsGoShooting.org/plusonemovement. By the way, women are the fastest growing segment in target shooting, and more gear than ever is being designed for their fit and comfort.

5. Rediscover shooting

It’s true there are a lot of first-time gun owners out there, but National Shooting Sports Month isn’t for newcomers only. Haven’t shot in a while? Dust off your shooting gear and head to the range with an old shooting buddy or maybe your granddaughter or grandson. Clay target sports like skeet, trap and sporting clays are great for socializing (and social distancing).

6. Cash in on deals

Retailers and ranges will be offering specials during National Shooting Sports Month at thousands of events nationwide. Find a participating business near you to take advantage of these offers at LetsGoShooting.org®.

7. Tune up for hunting season

Okay, maybe you’re not a hunter, but if you’ve wanted to learn more about hunting and harvesting your own food, a trip to a firearm retailer or range can provide answers to your questions about it. You’ll learn about enrolling in a hunter education course and practicing your shooting to be ready in time for the fall seasons. Not sure where to start? Visit NSSF’s LetsGoHunting.orgTM website.

8. Practice Firearm Safety

The shooting sports are safe. Responsible gun owners safely handle their firearms and securely store them when not in use, whether at home, in a vehicle or at the range. Thanks to responsible gun owners and programs like NSSF’s Project ChildSafe®, fatal firearms accidents are at all-time low levels.

9. Celebrate Freedom and Tradition

In addition to passing on the great tradition of target shooting, you can educate others about the unique American freedoms that make participating possible. See NSSF’s Proud to be a Firearms Owner pocket card and new video also learn about NSSF’s Gun Owners CareSM.

10. Win a Great Prize!

Finally, enter the +ONE Gearbox Giveaways at LetsGoShooting.org for a chance to win great prizes from generous National Shooting Sports Month sponsors.

Remember, help make others aware of the fun of target shooting by sharing your experiences on social media and using the hashtag #LetsGoShooting.

NDIA joins call to extend Section 3610 through 2021

July 31, 2020

ARLINGTON, VA – The National Defense Industrial Association is asking Congress to extend authority in Section 3610 of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act beyond Sept. 30, 2020, to Dec. 31, 2021. This is to ensure continued operations across government as the pandemic endures, the Arlington, VA-based trade association announced today.
NDIA is among eight trade associations that signed a July 31 letter to congressional leaders. The letter states that while the groups are grateful for funding included in the Senate Republican proposal to cover costs related to Section 3610, “it has become clear that the rationale for the section still exists and will continue to exist into the next fiscal year.” Section 3610 authorizes reimbursement of “extraordinary and unanticipated government contractor costs” arising from COVID-19.
Private-sector firms that support critical government agency missions “continue to face the same ‘ready state’ workforce sustainment challenges that justified the enactment of Section 3610,” the letter states. “It is for this reason that we ask you to add an extension of the authority.”
The entire letter is available here<

Signing the letter with NDIA are AFCEA International, the Associated General Contractors of America, CompTIA, The Center for Procurement Advocacy, the Intelligence and National Security Alliance, Professional Services Council and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

Viridian® Introduces World’s First Hand Stop Laser

HS1_2020_Product%20Video.00_01_15_03.Still018

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – August 1, 2020 – After six decades, the AR-15 is still America’s rifle. The platform’s popularity stems from its speed and ergonomics. Now the venerable rifle design is poised to be even faster and easier to control thanks to Viridian Weapon Technologies’ HS1™, the first and only hand stop with an integrated laser sighting device.

“The HS1 combines the functionality of an AR hand stop with the rapid target acquisition provided by a Viridian green laser,” said Brian Hedeen, President and CEO at Viridian. “The combination makes for a much more ergonomic rifle and cuts down on the attachments that add bulk to a gun’s foregrip.”

Viridian’s new hand stop offers increased control and faster target acquisition with a highly visible green laser that’s intuitively activated by the grip of the shooter’s support hand.

The HS1 uses M-Lok mounts to make installation easy. The laser is adjustable for windage and elevation. The HS1’s pressure pad activates the laser with a variety of support-hand grips, adding an added element of control and speeding up time to target.

This combination of speed and control makes the HS1 an ideal addition to any AR. MSRP for the Viridian HS1 is $179.

Features

  • M-Lok Mounts
  • Pressure Pad Activation
  • Daytime-visible Green Laser
  • Ergonomic Design for Pistols and Rifles
  • Single 1/3n battery
  • Adjustable for Windage and Elevation

ANNOUNCEMENT: GSOF SYMPOSIUM EUROPE 2020 CANCELLED

GSOF logoJuly 30, 2020

As a consequence of the ongoing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, GSOF Symposium Europe, organized by Clarion Events on behalf of the Global SOF Foundation, scheduled for October in Warsaw, Poland will no longer take place in 2020. This is a result of the continuing prohibitions and advisories against international travel put into effect by governments around the world and Poland’s introduction of COVID-19 regulations and public health directives. The next edition of GSOF Symposium Europe will be staged 26-28 October 2021 at Marriott Warsaw, Poland.

Stuart Bradin, CEO and President of Global SOF Foundation, said: “Based on health and safety considerations, on-going limitations on large gatherings, and extensive travel restrictions, it is not possible for us to conduct the Symposium as we originally envisioned. We simply cannot convene the international special operations community in a meaningful way in the current environment. We are terribly disappointed, but the health and safety of our attendees, speakers, and partners must take priority.”

Tracy Bebbington, Event Director, Clarion Events Defense and Security, said: “While the decision not to hold GSOF Symposium Europe this year is disappointing for us as organizers, it is a result of factors beyond our control. The 2021 symposium will fulfil our collective desire to execute a world-class event to highlight Poland’s important contributions to European security and the significance of special operations forces globally.
