Barrett Communications – C4 EDGE Communications Program

Barrett Communications is one of sixteen Australian companies who have joined Team C4 EDGE (Evolutionary Digital Ground Environment), to scope the development of a sovereign land battlegroup and below communications environment for the Australian Army.

The program will leverage internationally agreed open standards to grow and demonstrate Australian C4 Industry capacity and capability to deliver a battlegroup and below C4 capability.

Ultimately, by the end of 2021 the program will have delivered a proof of concept demonstrator that shows the capability of Australian Industry to further develop a protected, integrated and supportable sovereign system: one that delivers agile and resilient C2 functionality to meet the flexible, scalable and interoperability needs of a battle group operating independently or with partners.

Team C4 EDGE intend to deliver a demonstration of Australian industry capability in late 2021, subject to Army approval of the next phase, offering Australian C4 (Command Control Communications and Computing) technology which may include:

  • Mounted and dismounted radio-frequency bearer systems
  • Force tracking
  • Battle application environment
  • Network planning and management
  • Data distribution systems
  • Sovereign cryptography
  • Sovereign waveform

 In June 2020 EOS Defence Systems signed a $4.2m AUD contract with the Commonwealth to act as the Lead Contractor for team C4 EDGE delivery of Phase 1, over the period Jun-Sep 20.

GRINNELL, Iowa (August 14, 2020) – In the wake of a ruling by a three-judge panel of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, Brownells has resumed selling its full lineup of rifle, pistol and shotgun magazines to California customers.

Known as Duncan vs Becerra, the case against California’s ban on standard-capacity magazines was brought by the California Rifle & Pistol Association.

The Ninth Circuit applied strict scrutiny in its decision and ruled firearm magazines, including those of 30-rounds capacity or more, are “protected arms under the Second Amendment.”

The entire ruling can be read at the United States Court of Appeals For the Ninth Circuit site.

Effective immediately, Brownells will once again ship magazines to California customers.

ARLINGTON, VA – The National Defense Industrial Association offers this statement regarding Section 889, part B of the fiscal 2019 National Defense Authorization Act:
“NDIA agrees with the premise of Section 889, part B, of the fiscal 2019 National Defense Authorization Act and worked diligently with its members and with other trade associations to create an implementable policy.
“Unfortunately, our efforts to secure a delay of enactment and an opportunity to comment and collaborate on a workable rule did not happen. Instead, as of Thursday, Aug. 13, many of our members have been asked to attest to not ‘using,’ from a still-undefined list, systems and components in their respective supply chains; otherwise, they risk losing current and future contracts. Now, several of these companies have told NDIA they are contemplating layoffs, leaving the defense industrial base or folding as a business.
“There could not have been a worse time or a worse way to implement this provision. It comes on top of the COVID-19 fallout to these companies and the mandate that they upgrade to conform to Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification standards. Today’s announcement of a temporary waiver until September 30 is heartening. NDIA hopes the decision-makers in the Executive Branch and Congress take into account these initial effects and seek a workable solution.”

Shoot Like A Girl® Brings Free Firearms and Archery Experience to Bass Pro Shops® in Oklahoma City

ATHENS, Ala. – August 14, 2020 – Shoot Like A Girl’s Coast to Coast Tour is making its way to Bass Pro Shops in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma this weekend for a free interactive event that introduces women to the shooting sports in a fun, safe and comfortable atmosphere. Both new and experienced shooters are invited to stop by the Shoot Like A Girl trailer in front of Bass Pro Shops on Saturday, August 15 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, August 16 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m to learn about safe and responsible gun ownership and the many benefits of firearms from certified female instructors who are eager to share their passion for the shooting sports.

What to Expect

This unique experience is designed to make the shooting sports more accessible to women, giving them confidence to take the next steps in firearms training after they leave the Shoot Like A Girl event. Attendees are also encouraged to bring their families and young children to discuss and hear more about firearm safety.

Inside the range, attendees who are 16 years of age or older will be able to handle and shoot handguns and long guns with guidance from instructors, using a state-of-the-art, military-grade firearm simulator which provides immediate recoil, impact and sound feedback. Archery coaches will also be onsite to assist guests with shooting bows.

Outside the range, at the Shoot Like A Girl gun counter, visitors of all ages are welcome to compare a variety of disabled firearms, including revolvers, semi-automatic pistols, shotguns and rifles. Additional products from corporate partners will be on display, including optics, conceal carry bags, holsters, TrueTimber camouflage gear, SABRE pepper spray products and much more. No experience is necessary to participate in this free event, and all equipment is provided to guests upon arrival. Those unable to attend in Oklahoma City are encouraged to come out to any Shoot Like A Girl trailer event in cities all across the country. Updated Safety Measures

Shoot Like A Girl has implemented COVID-19 protocols in accordance with the CDC and will be practicing social distancing and utilizing a waiting line app which allows people to wait from anywhere near the premises. Attendees will be issued a full TrueTimber face mask (provided by Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s), eye protection (provided by Birchwood Casey) and non-latex gloves (to keep). Inside the trailer, capacity will be limited to two instructors and two clients at any given time. CDC signs will be posted, and surfaces will be cleaned regularly. Hand sanitizer will also be available (provided by Leadslingers Whiskey) for use throughout the event.

OH YEAH BABY!

Austin powers GIF - Find on GIFERWe’ve made it to the end of the week and I hope  it’s been a productive week for you; that you’ve remained optimistic, which in and of itself is an accomplishment  given the times we live in. But that was last week and we now have a weekend to look forward to.

The Center for Disease Control published their survey conducted to establish were American’s mental health is. The survey found that 40.9% of respondents reported at least one mental or behavioral health condition:

  • 31% said they’d experienced symptoms of anxiety or depression,
  • 26% said they’d experienced trauma or stressor-related disorder symptoms,
  • 13% said they’d started or increased substance use,
  • 11% said they’d seriously considered suicide in the last 30 days.

In my opinion most of this is related to the 24×7 barrage of news media reporting and the incessant bickering about what should be done – keep in mind that many of these folks don’t know a virus from a zit. On one hand you have medical professional who can’t arrive at a consistent opinion as to what people should do; on the other you have economists offering conflicting opinions on where the economy is and how to get it moving. All of which creates a great deal of uncertainty within the general public; leading to the conditions reported by the CDC.

Regular readers have already been exposed to my view of psychologists that I’ll reiterate by saying that a psychologist is a jackass who majored in psychology so they could understand themselves.

However, I’ve never expressed my view of economists. The first thing you need to know is that economics is a social science, which means you could lineup 100 economists nuts-to-butts and each will have a different opinion. Most if not all have never run a business. You’ll usually  find a handful of economists at major corporations, who’s principal contribution is help the CEO and CFO bullshit in the 10Q and 10K (quarterly and annual financial statements respectively). Within the family of economists you have a group that “specialize” in Econometrics, they are the techno-winnies  of economics and remind me of the Order of Cistercians of the Strict Observance. They design models to “forecast” (the more accurate expression is anal extraction) economic conditions. The only difference between a psychologist and an economist is that the economist passed three semesters of calculus.

Absolutely nothing that anyone of these individuals have to say should make you feel anxious, depressed, stressed or suicidal, but all of these conditions can be improved by a weekly shoot the shit. Like kids need to be in a classroom for social interaction, adults need to have weekly shoot the shits. So, what’s a shoot the shit?

A shoot the shit is a social interaction during which any topic can be discussed. Participants don’t need to know anything about the subject, they are free to make any unsupported comment, use uncensored profanity, insult anyone the wish or change the subject. I will guarantee that by the 3rd or 4th shoot the shit your mental health will show marked improvement. So let’s get started.

After Steve Easterbrook was fired by McDonald’s last year, the former chief executive apologized and walked away with tens of millions in compensation.Steve Easterbrook, McDonald’s former CEO was removed for sexting with a subordinate. After apologizing for his conduct, he stepped down and received an exit package worth some $40 million. I can only assume that the sexting was a bilateral exchange of language and images but who the hell knows.

As it turns out, a few months after leaving, a McDonald’s employee reported that Easterbrook had a sexual relationship with another employee. It appears that Steve Easterbrook had a sexual relationship with three McDonald’s employees that he did not disclose, but he “awarded a lucrative batch of shares to one of those employees.” He was obviously impressed by that one individual’s performance but the other two received no financial rewards. This entire thing is weird but to make a long story short McDonald’s is trying to recoup Easterbrook’s exit package

This week we also saw Vice President Biden announce his VP pick, Senator Kamala Harris. The video below captures the job offering.

 

I don’t know about you but this sounds like the opening scene in a porn flick. Is it possible that Kamala plans to exercise Joe Biden into a cardiac arrest and take over the Presidency? It remains to be seen, but Democrats describe her as being very ambitious, so who the hell knows.

Sneak Peek at Upcoming CAA USA MCK New Models

(August 2020) CAA USA, designer, developer, and distributor of modern tactical accessories and handgun conversion kits, is increasing production capabilities to meet the outstanding demand from distributors and customers for its Micro Conversion Kit (MCK) product lines. The company has added additional manufacturing shifts and personnel to meet this demand. However, the demand for existing products has not slowed down CAA USA’s development team. CAA USA is proud to announce additional new MCK units to satisfy more GLOCK and Springfield handgun owners.

Every Micro Conversion Kit is a unique design experience and the upcoming new models are no different. The new MCK GLOCK 26/27 presented a design challenge, for example. CAA USA designed the MCK GLOCK 26/27 to accommodate the lack of rail under the pistol barrel, which on other MCK models is incorporated into the locking feature. The MCK GLOCK 26/27 incorporates the front of the trigger guard as part of the lock-in system. The new MCK GLOCK 43/43X/48 was our first kit designed for single stack handguns.  This also required development of a new locking technology due to the lack of a universal Glock rail. Both the Glock 26/27 and Glock 43/43X/48 are extremely popular concealed carry options and CAA USA is excited to expand into this realm of handguns. The Springfield 9 and 45 models feature different barrel lengths, dimensions and magazines which required several new designs in the MCK platform. This is the first time CAA USA has ever developed a Micro Conversion Kit to accommodate four different barrel lengths (3.8”, 4”, 4.5” and 5” models). Hartman expressed concern over the length of time R&D took to overcome these challenges but assures his customers that not until a product’s design has passed their rigorous testing can it be made available to the public.

The new MCK21GEN2 involved some challenges of its own, however, with the growing demand for a suppressor friendly conversion kit in .45acp/10mm, CAA USA knew it had to be done. With all of the same features that customers have come to love on the Gen 2 configuration, the MCK21GEN2 comes standard with an upgraded stabilizing arm brace, aluminum picatinny top rail, magazine button catch/release, the ability to use a brass catcher, and among other upgrades, the compatibility with a suppressor up to 1.38” diameter. While in development, Hartman was able to R&D a new method for a front magazine storage specifically for this model, allowing the original magazine holder to be utilized instead, for additional add-ons such as the MCKKNIFE or others coming soon!

Hartman concluded, “We are very proud that we have become the trendsetters in the handgun conversion world and that every major distributor in America carries our ‘100 percent made-in-the-USA’ MCKs. We also want to thank our partner, SB Tactical, who owns the patent for the Arm Brace. Summertime Work: Prep For Fall Hunting with our 4-Step Process

Gainesville, GA (August 11, 2020) Fall hunting seasons are coming up fast, and now is the time to get ready. The smart hunter will use Ballistic and our 4-Step Process to ensure their summer shooting preparation is as efficient as possible.

STEP 1: Chronographing
At the shooting range, begin by chronographing the various hunting rounds to be used later in the year to true the rifle and calculate accurate muzzle velocity. Then use this data to start building a Ballistic Profile for each hunting round.

STEP 2: Zeroing
Next, the hunter needs to zero each round at 100 yards.

Once the 100-yard zero is established, it’s time to reach out further. If the shooting range has 200- and 300-yard and longer opportunities, practice at these distances. If the range is limited to 100-yard shots, find some wide-open land and set up targets at various distances.

The longer-distance practice will make a hunter familiar with the bullet drop and wind adjustments needed in the field, and Ballistic will provide those holdover and windage points.

STEP 3: Targets
Longer-distance shooting also lets the hunter see how targets look at various distances. Speaking of targets, investing in life-sized paper game targets can be a huge help, too.  When these life-sized targets are arranged at various distances, hunters become familiar with how animals will appear at these distances through their optics.

STEP 4: Environmentals
Practice during windy days is also a must! That left-to-right breeze likely won’t make much difference for a 100-yard shot. However, many hunters are amazed to discover just how much bullet drift even a 5 M.P.H. breeze can create at 400-plus yards.

With Ballistic, shooters and hunters can input wind speed and direction in a manner of ways. Angle inputs (e.g., 90° = crosswind left to right) are possible for the wind direction or the O’clock format (e.g., 3:00 will automatically translate to 90°) can be used, too. Headwinds can also be added in, and Ballistic will automatically adjust velocity to account for the headwind calculation.

Working Ballistic into these practice sessions will pay big dividends when hunting. Just as they would in the fields during the season, hunters practicing for the fall should regularly update Ballistic’s environmental inputs, including wind speed and directions.

BUSHNELL LIL P(RISM)

At the 2018 SHOT SHOW, Bushnell introduced the TAC OPTICS line of weapon sights. In addition to magnified optics, Bushnell also introduced three 1X red dot sights as part of their TAC OPTICS offerings. In my upcoming review, I’ll introduce you to the LIL P(RISM). The LIL P has excellent optical clarity, and should your battery die the Prism ensures that you’ll still have a reticle. A great little sight!

Holster choice, and particularly the exact positioning on the body, is intensely
personal. What’s comfortable, fast and concealable for one gun carrier may not

For many decades, strongside behind the hip – from about 3 o’clock to 5 o’clock – was the standard carry position among Americans, and it remains exceedingly

Federal Launches Virtual Shows for Its Buy Group Partners and Distributors

ANOKA, Minnesota – August 7, 2020 – Federal developed a series of virtual sales shows to support its Buy Group customers. This effort is due to many of the industry’s sales shows being cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Starting on August 10, and running throughout the month, Federal will launch four virtual Buy Group shows for its business partners. Each Buy Group will receive its own dedicated week to review the digital content through an online portal. At the end of the week, attendees will get their questions answered by Federal’s sales staff and product teams through live chats.
“Our distributors and retailers are hungry for information and product news. They need to hear from us and since we cannot be there in person we created our own virtual experience,” said Federal SVP Hunting & Shooting Sales Jim Bruno. “As a result, our efforts will benefit the end consumer because we will provide the latest and greatest products and information to be made available from our distribution customers who attend these virtual shows.”
New product videos with detailed information on features and benefits will be the focus of the shows. Other digital content that will be provided include: messages from Federal Ammunition President Jason Vanderbrink and Senior Vice President of Sales Jim Bruno; examples of upcoming product advertising; trade marketing tools and displays; plus, pricing, terms and hot show specials for Buy Group members.
“We want attendees of our virtual shows to get the same access to assets that they would if they attended our booth at a physical show,” said Federal Events Director Michael Kinn. “During this challenging time, we needed to change our approach to how we do business, while still delivering everything our retail customers need to get our products in the hands of the end consumer. We know these virtual sales shows will deliver on that effort.”
