Cimarron Originals with Mike Harvey – What Makes Cimarron Different?

Fredericksburg, Texas (August 2020) – Cimarron Firearms, recognized as the leader in quality and authenticity in Old West replica firearms, continue their fan-favorite video series “Cimarron Originals with Mike Harvey” with a twist. The sixth in an on-going series of videos on YouTube aims to set the record straight in regards to the significant role Mike Harvey and Cimarron have played in the cartridge firearm replica market.

In response to many articles Harvey has read within the firearms industry that reference Old West replicas, Cimarron and the competition, Harvey takes issue with “fake gun news” and during this new video, in his casual story-telling way, furnishes a behind-the-scenes look at how replica guns are really made.

When Mike Harvey started in the importation of the replica business, he found a real lack of craftsmanship in the products. He explains that early American firearms, from the 1800s, were finely crafted – by hand – using dozens of different files and tools to create a superior fit and finish, including much of the engraving. These early models of Colts and Winchester Harvey says were made by “artists.” What had been lost in the centuries after with the arrival of machinery and technology was the attention to detail and craftsmanship.

Not to be deterred in working with the Italian companies producing Old West replicas, Harvey brought a 1st Gen original Colt to Aldo Uberti, a gun that Mr. Uberti, until then, had never had in his possession to work from. Harvey worked with the Uberti team to develop the first Cimarron version of the Colt Cavalry model. The relationship between Cimarron and Uberti went far beyond manufacturer and distributor. Both companies partnered to bring significant changes to the replica market to produce replicas that were almost indistinguishable from the originals. Along the way, Harvey also decided that, unlike the competition, he would have all the internals made in the USA and supplied by Cimarron to their specifications for the replicas. As a result, the Cimarron replicas function smoothly without the stiffness or clunkiness found in other replicas. Most all of the Uberti replicas produced have been through the expertise and guidance of Mike Harvey and his unique collection of original Old West firearms.

Mike Harvey’s smooth storytelling continues with fond memories of his relationship with Aldo Uberti and Pietro, who continues his father’s legacy. Cimarron Firearms is proud to own the Aldo Uberti Museum of Firearms, of which many unique guns were hand-made by the master Uberti himself.

Madrid, August 25, 2020.- Indra will equip the 348 8×8 Dragón Wheeled Combat Vehicles (WCVs) procured by Spain’s Ministry of Defense with an advanced state-of-the art Mission System and electronic architecture that will give the vehicle the highest degree of safety and superiority, for more than 150 million euros in an initial stage.

Indra expects to sign new contracts in the first phase of the WCV 8×8 program, of the three phases of the project’s development.

Indra participates in a solution to provide the WCV 8×8 Dragon turrets. If this solution is approved, Indra will enhance its participation, providing the turret with the optronic technology and the fire control system with its ballistic calculation software, ensuring the national sovereignty around the turret.

The company will develop this project within the company TESS Defense, of which it is a partner, together with Santa Barbara, Sapa Placencia and Escribano Mechanical & Engineering. The Ministry of Defense has commissioned this firm to manufacture the vehicles to be delivered within seven years.

The Mission System is the key component to make the WCV 8×8 Dragon’s the most digital vehicle of the market and to ensure its superiority, and is on a par with the mechanics, armor and armament, which traditionally have been regarded as more important. Furthermore, it is the key element from the national sovereignty point of view. The control of the system by a Spanish company, as Indra, will allow addressing all kinds of modernizations and evolutions in the future, without being dependent on third parties.

Indra’s Mission System enables its operation to be carried out in an increasingly collaborative scenario, in which tactical information is shared by geographically dispersed forces to carry out the mission. Indra will facilitate key aspects to achieve this, so that the information generated by sensors will expedite the decision-making process, improve synchronization, situational awareness and action, while at the same time the forces will survive in the various operations, in what will be a full operational cycle, from planning (ORBAT) to debriefing, including the execution and control of the mission.

To do so, this Mission System possesses a high-capability electronic infrastructure and a powerful information processing, analysis and storage capacity, both of the on-board equipment and of the relevant information for the mission. Its open and modular architecture will facilitate the incorporation of new systems such as the full provision of the LSAS, where its pre-installation will be carried out in this phase, as well as the upgrades of the initial equipment in a straightforward manner throughout the vehicle’s life cycle, which guarantees its technological advantage.

One of its main components is the BMS (Battlefield Management System), which, based on the vehicle’s position and direction and on the real-time situation information, will assess which is the best option to ensure the success and completion of the mission, thus accelerating the decision loop.

As well as implementing the Mission System and participating in turret production, Indra will be responsible for the maintenance and support of the vehicle’s life cycle and will assist in its international sales and marketing.

The 8×8 WCV program is one of the cornerstones of the Force 35 initiative with which the Spanish Army is gearing up to ensure its future effectiveness.

The program will drive forward the competitiveness of Spanish industry and will contribute around 8,750 direct indirect and induced jobs, especially in the regions of Asturias and Guipúzcoa and the cities of Seville and Madrid.

Furthermore, it will ensure the maintenance of national sovereignty over an essential product for defense and will generate industrial property for Spanish industry.

GLOCK Introduces Optic Ready Slimline Models G43X and G48

First-Time Gun Buyers Grow to Nearly 5 Million in 2020

NEWTOWN, Conn. – NSSF®, the trade association for the firearm industry, updated retail survey-based estimates and concluded that nearly 5 million Americans purchased a firearm for the very first time in 2020. NSSF surveyed firearm retailers which reported that 40 percent of sales were conducted to purchasers who have never previously owned a firearm.
NSSF tracks the background checks associated with the sale of a firearm based on the FBI’s National Instant Background Check System (NICS). NSSF-adjusted NICS checks for January through July 2020 is a record 12.1 million, which is up 71.7 percent from the 7.1 million NSSF-adjusted NICS January through July 2019. This equates to nearly 5 million first-time gun owners in the first seven months of 2020.
“This is a tectonic shift in the firearm and ammunition industry marketplace and complete transformation of today’s gun-owning community,” said Lawrence G. Keane, NSSF Senior Vice President of General Counsel. “These first-time buyers represent a group of people who, until now, were agnostic regarding firearm ownership. That’s rapidly changing, and these Americans are taking hold of their God-given right to keep and bear arms and protect themselves and their loved ones.”
NSSF surveys revealed that 58 percent of firearm purchases were among African American men and women, the largest increase of any demographic group. Women comprised 40 percent of first-time gun purchasers. Retailers noted that they are seeing a 95 percent increase in firearm sales and a 139 percent increase in ammunition sales over the same period in 2019.
Several factors are contributing to the sustained surge in firearm purchases. Sales spiked in March, with a record-setting 2.3 million NICS background checks conducted for a firearm sale, the same month the coronavirus pandemic struck. During this time, police warned response times would be tested while mayors and governors emptied prisons, including violent felons. Some of those were rearrested within days for committing another violent crime. After Memorial Day, protests turned to looting, riots and destruction, which continues today in several major metropolitan areas. Politically-charged calls to defund police also continue to spur sales.
This is also an election year and firearm sales typically rise during presidential election years. However, this year, Democratic candidates Joe Biden and U.S. Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) are calling for stringent gun control measures, including forcible confiscation, banning entire classes of firearms from lawful possession, licensing schemes and repealing the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act, which would expose the firearm industry to frivolous and harassing lawsuits.
Each month since March, NSSF-adjusted NICS background checks have set a record as the strongest ever recorded for that month.

HENSOLDT receives major order for boresight equipmentWetzlar, Germany, 21 August 2020 – In the course of setting up NATO’s Very High Readiness Joint Task Force (VJTF), the Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw) has ordered a total of 300 high-precision boresight telescopes for the Leopard 2 and the self-propelled howitzer 2000. In addition to the telescopes, the order also comprises transport and storage containers. According to current planning, the first batch of 30 units will be delivered to the Bundeswehr via the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) before the end of the third quarter of 2020. HENSOLDT will initially deliver ten units per month and then gradually expand delivery to 15 units per month. By 2023, all boresight telescopes of the second batch are to be delivered. After that, HENSOLDT will remain the supplier for spare parts and responsible for service.

Product Manager Nico Lubold says: “This order is the largest single order for boresight equipment for us since the 1980s. The fact that the tender process went so smoothly despite the Corona-related delays is due to the close coordination and excellent cooperation with the BAAINBw.”

HENSOLDT’s boresights are used to adjust and maintain the target systems of barrel-based weapon systems. They are characterized by their fast, simple and reliable handling, as well as their high adjustment accuracy and durability. An experienced user therefore only needs a few minutes to check the precision of his weapon system and restore it if necessary. Thanks to caliber rods, that is, special weapon barrel adapters, the universal adjustment optics cover almost all weapon systems in use – from assault rifles to howitzers. With its modular design, costs and weight are kept as low as possible and allow tailor-made solutions for every application. In addition, a uniform system eliminates the need for long training sessions on different types of equipment.

OVERLAND PARK, Kansas – August 21, 2020 – Bushnell®, an industry leader in performance optics, assumed title sponsorship of the Vapor Trail Steel Siege and sent members from its Elite Tactical team to compete in the national Precision Rifle Series (PRS) match. At the conclusion of the match, multiple team members placed in the Top 10 with Elite Tactical riflescopes being used to capture first place wins in the Tactical, Production and Ladies Division.

Hosted by Vapor Trail Valley LLC in Spickard, Missouri, the Bushnell Elite/Vapor Trail Steel Siege featured a mixture of prone, modified prone and positional shooting challenges. Over the course of two days, a highly contested field of over 100 competitors battled through 20 stages, including distances out to 1,400 yards and high-angle target arrays nestled in the area’s natural hills and valleys.

Leading into the final day of the match, members of the Elite Tactical team stayed among the top of their respective divisions and overall standings.

Results for Elite Tactical team members and their optics:

Fifth place: Robert Brantley, Elite Tactical XRS II riflescope

Seventh place: Troy Livesay, Elite Tactical DMR II Pro riflescope

Eleventh place (first place in Tactical Division): Mark Copper, Elite Tactical XRS II riflescope

In field-match style PRS competition, switching winds across open valleys made match conditions difficult. Throughout the match, Elite Tactical optics assisted team members with maximizing their performance. The trackability of Elite Tactical scopes and reticle options for holding, or when dialing for wind, enabled precise shot placement through the 200+ rounds of competition.

In addition, ED Prime glass which is standard on all Elite Tactical XRS II and DMR 2 models, enabled shooter to see mirage and adjust as needed. The scope’s tight tolerances and machine-grade turrets helped to provide audible and tactile confirmation when adjusting without shooters having to look up from the reticle or lose sight of targets.

Kalashnikov Concern will launch the AK-19 at this year’s Army 2020 Exhibition in Moscow. The Exhibit will be organized at three locations, Patriot Expo (Moscow Region), Kubinka Air Base, Alabino Military Training Grounds 23-29 August, 2020. The new rifle  is a derivative of the AK-12, an assault rifle chambered in 5.45 mm and in service with the Russian military since the end of 2018. The AK-19 is chambered in 5.56×45 N.A.T. O. and features the Picatinny rails and telescoping stock of the AK-12.

WESTWOOD, Mass. (August 20, 2020) – August is National Shooting Sports Month, a recognized time to celebrate the joys and rewards of recreational shooting nationwide. The Truth About Subliminal Messages [Infographic] | Visual ...Holy mackerel what a week! If you’ve been watching the Virtual Democratic National Convention you’re probably one of a handful, and it’s quite likely that you’re thinking about therapy. Stop! You don’t need therapy you need to have a good shoot the shit. Why do I regularly discourage therapy? Very simply because roughly 60% of all psychology students, study psychology in order to understand themselves. There are some very good reasons why insurance companies don’t like covering behavioral services. Although not dissimilar, at least a psychiatrist passed the MCAT exam and made it through a Pre-Med program as an undergraduate student. I respectfully remind you that the highest concentration of licensed psychologists are found in California and New York; that should tell you everything you need to know. Further evidence of that correlation exists in New York City, where you have a group of people who elected Bill de Blasio, Mayor and Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez. To further understand psychology, I present the concept of subliminal transference.

Subliminal transference can be described as the nonconscious transference in social perception. More simply, when a new person subliminally triggers a social perception to another person.

Let’s take a look at the 9 second video excerpt below.

Here, we see John Kasich using his hands in a manner that suggests size concurrent with his saying “the measure of the man” So, if you interpret that as a suggestion of V.P. Bidens’ tool size you have experienced subliminal transference. Is he trying to communicate size to V.P. candidate Senator Harris? Could it suggest that John Kasich may have been using the urinal next to V.P. Biden? Certainly all possible, but those differences in perception is what a psychologist loves to analyze. Subliminal messaging was used years ago in the film industry. A production company would set up a scene were there were cases of Coke in the background; subliminally suggesting to an audience the need to have a Coke. Coke would pay for that. It failed!

On the other hand, shoot the shits are far better. A good shoot the shit is a social interaction during which you can talk about anything, you don’t need to know anything about the subject being discussed, you can make unsupported statements, use uncensured profanity, insult anyone you wish or change the subject altogether and as an added benefit, you won’t have to pay a jackass $150+ per hour.

So, let’s shoot the shit…

Let’s talk about the UAS Remote Pilot Certification recurrent exam. Much credit goes to the FAA for producing a fairly good exam, but speaking quite frankly, why do you need to take the exam every two years. The recurrent (renews your certification) is a 40 question exam administered at one of the FAA flight centers. The exam is fairly good, but guys test for knowledge and not to zing. Here’s an example of what I mean.

Here the exam asks in what airspace is Hayward Executive Airport ?

I placed an arrow on the sectional chart to show you where Hayward Executive is located. Now, take a look at the dashed blue line around Hayward Executive, it tells you the airport is in class D airspace. But, guys it is hard to see especially when you have Class B and Class C airspace all above Hayward Executive. So, expect to have questions pointing to airports, towers, etc. located in cluttered Sectional Charts.

To do well on the recurrent exam focus on Part 107 regs, weight and balance and airspace.

Let’s talk about phishing email and basic cyber security

Phishing emails are on the rise and becoming increasingly more sophisticated. You may see and e-mail from someone you know sending you to a link that’s something cool. Trusting the email, you click on the link that takes you to a web page that will install malware or even worse a keyboard logger. Malware can be used to hold your computer hostage and request bitcoin payment, the keyboard logger can collect all of your keyboard strokes.So, if you login at your bank, the keyboard logger will collect the URL and your login details including passwords.

These phishing emails often look like messages from institutions like banks, insurance companies. When you receive these messages, do not use the hyperlinks included in the email, go directly to the company’s web site.

The other characteristic with these malicious emails, when you reply all, you’ll see the message header exposing the originating email address and domain. For example:

BXYTD234567@somewhere.eu

Note that the domain somewhere.eu does not correspond to a legitimate source. Moreover, if you flag it as spam, the flag applies only to BXYTD234567@somewhere.eu because your spam filter is literal. So, the next time you see the same email, you’ll note that the origination email address may be something like XYTD3347@somewhere.eu ; this is done to defeat your Spam filter.

Sadly, you need to be very careful with these emails, scan your computer and smart device for viruses and malware regularly.
