Northrop Grummans LEO Satellite Payload for DARPA Revolutionizes Positioning Navigation and Timing LINTHICUM, Md. and WOODLAND HILLS, Calif. – Sept. 16, 2021 – The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Blackjack program has awarded Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC) a contract for Phase 2 development of an advanced, software-defined positioning, navigation and timing (PNT) payload, with options to build units destined for space flight.

Northrop Grumman’s advanced, software-enabled positioning, navigation and timing payload has been developed to keep forces on target in difficult environments against advanced threats – even if the availability of existing satellite navigation systems are degraded or denied.

The PNT payload work is led by Northrop Grumman’s Future PNT Systems Operating Unit in Woodland Hills. The team supports the DARPA Tactical Technology Office’s goal of achieving capable, resilient and affordable national security space capabilities from low Earth orbit (LEO).

“Northrop Grumman’s software-defined Positioning, Navigation and Timing technology will offer military users an agile new signal from LEO that is not dependent on existing satellite navigation systems,” said Dr. Nicholas Paraskevopoulos, chief technology officer and sector vice president, emerging capabilities development, Northrop Grumman. “Warfighters depend on assured PNT for traditional missions like force projection and joint operations, but also for emerging autonomous and distributed missions.

The PNT payload features Northrop Grumman’s Software Enabled Reconfigurable Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) Embedded Architecture for Navigation and Timing (SERGEANT) capability. The Phase 2 development effort is valued at $13.3 million if all options are exercised through emulation, critical design and build.

Reston began his law enforcement career as a patrol officer with Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office in 2000. In 2004 Reston became a member of JSO’s full-time SWAT Team, where he trained in waterborne insertion and interdiction, K9 tactics, CQB, explosive breaking, less lethal, sniper, and assault tactics. Additionally, Reston served as an assigned Detective in the Department of Homeland Security/ Gang Investigations unit, and as the assistant team leader, and lead firearms instructor for the SWAT team. His career includes the successful completion of over one thousand SWAT missions.

In 2008, Reston was involved in a shoot-out with a shop lifter. Although Reston was hit seven times, he was able to return fire, ending the encounter and the effectively stopping the shooter. “Luck made the bullets not kill me, mindset kept me in the fight, skill made me win,” said Reston. For his bravery and skill, Reston was awarded The President of the United States’ “Medal of Valor”, American Police and Hall of Fame’s “National Police Officer of the Year”, Fraternal Order of Police’s “Florida Police Officer of the Year”, and the State of Florida’s “Law Enforcement Officer of the Year.”

While traveling the country and recounting this incident, Reston came to realize officers did not have the same multi-faceted training that had saved his life. This observation was the catalyst for Reston to found Reston Group, LLC, a training company focused on sharing his knowledge and experience in resolving lethal force incidents to help law enforcement, military, and responsible citizens sharpen their mindset, skills, and ultimately help save lives.

The MK22 will replace several current fielded Army sniper rifles.

Designed with precision and modularity in mind, the MK22 provides even greater flexibility within the highly successful MRAD rifle platform. eMagin to Expand Its U.S.-based Workforce by 10%

HOPEWELL JUNCTION, N.Y., Sept. 16, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — eMagin Corporation (NYSE American: EMAN), a leader in the development, design and manufacture of Active Matrix OLED microdisplays used in military and commercial AR/VR devices, and other near-eye imaging products, today announced it has finalized the details of its previously announced $33.6 million contract with the U.S. Department of Defense to sustain and enhance domestic capability for high-resolution, high-brightness OLED microdisplays, including the Company’s direct patterning technology (dPd™). All capital equipment decisions have been made, with all qualification milestones in place, as the Company enters the second year of a three-year contract. A major portion of this Defense Production Act Title III investment will be used to install production-capable dPd equipment at eMagin’s Hopewell Junction, New York headquarters to improve throughput and yield of this innovative technology. The funding will enable the Company to replace and update equipment to reduce production downtime and increase yield for existing microdisplays. LEONARDO DRS AWARDED CONTRACT FOR SURFACE-TO-AIR MISSILE THREAT SIMULATORS FOR U.S. AIR FORCE TRAINING RANGES

ARLINGTON, VA, September 13, 2021 ̶ Leonardo DRS, Inc. announced today that it has received a contract to design, manufacture and deliver Unmanned Threat Emitter (UMTE) Threat Kit 12 (TK-12) Remote Emitter systems providing advanced surface-to-air missile threat simulation to increase realistic training capabilities for aircrews using U.S. Air Force premier training ranges.

The contract, from Georgia Tech Research Institute, will provide U.S. military and partner nation aircrews with advanced threat training platforms to enhance aircrew competency in survivability and tactics, techniques and procedures.

The UMTE TK-12 design is based on Leonardo DRS’ AN/TPT-T1(V) UMTE system that is currently fielded by the U.S. Air Force.

The UMTE TK-12 systems incorporate full effective radiated power threat simulation, advanced waveform generators, and day/night electro-optical/infrared cameras for tracking to provide threat faithful, training range-compatible capabilities. Additionally, the TK-12 is specially configured for helicopter lift for deployment in remote and inaccessible terrain to increase range flexibility for threat positioning and optimize aircrew training.

By accurately replicating the relevant threats aircrews face today, the Leonardo DRS system enables aircrews to continue to be the most lethal and survivable forces in the world. The UMTE TK-12 ensures training ranges are able to provide their customers with the most realistic threat scenarios possible.

The training and simulation system is designed by the company’s Airborne and Intelligence Systems business, which has a legacy of providing a wide-range of advanced, world-class aircraft training systems to all U.S. military services and partner nations around the world.

WASHINGTON — The rate of unruly passenger incidents on commercial flights has dropped sharply since the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) launched its Zero Tolerance campaign but the rate remains too high, according to new data released today.

“Our work is having an impact and the trend is moving in the right direction. But we need the progress to continue. This remains a serious safety threat, and one incident is one too many,” said FAA Administrator Steve Dickson. “The FAA will continue its Zero Tolerance policy, keep its public awareness campaign going, and keep pushing and partnering with everyone in the aviation system to do more. We appreciate the tremendous work of all our partners in the airline, airport, labor, and law enforcement communities.”

As of last week, unruly passenger incidents were occurring approximately six times per every 10,000 flights. That’s an approximately 50 percent drop from early 2021, but it’s more than twice as high as the end of 2020. Since the FAA launched its public awareness campaign with memes and two public service announcements, the rate has fallen approximately 30 percent. View a graphic with the data.

Using its full legal authority to deter this dangerous behavior, the FAA adopted a zero-tolerance policy toward unruly passengers in January 2021. Under this policy, the FAA no longer issues warning letters. Instead, it moves directly to fines, which have totaled $1.1 million to date. In addition to its public service announcement videos and memes, the agency has asked airports to help educate passengers that they cannot consume alcohol on board that they purchase at restaurants and shops in the airport or that is not served by a flight attendant.

Later this month, the FAA plans to host unruly-passenger working sessions with key aviation stakeholders. The FAA will ask members of the aviation system to share best practices and to identify additional steps they and the U.S. government can take to reduce the unruly incident rate further.

Shoot Like A Girl® Continues Hunt Like A Girl™ Contest in Partnership with Beretta USA

ATHENS, Ala. – September 23, 2021 – Shoot Like A Girl has partnered with Beretta USA to host the Hunt Like A Girl™ Contest that will provide one lucky winner the opportunity to participate in a guided waterfowl hunt in El Campo, Texas, November 15-18, 2021. This contest will give one entrant, who is new to hunting or who has never hunted before, the chance to experience the fall waterfowl season for the first time with an all-female team from Shoot Like A Girl and Beretta. The winner will also receive a gear prize pack from the hunt sponsors. This experience is the third and final of the three hunts planned in partnership with Beretta in 2021.

Contest Details

For the chance to win a hunt of a lifetime, entrants must complete the online entry form in its entirety and nominate either a friend or themselves for the grand prize by submitting a brief “essay” detailing the reason for the nomination within a 1000 character limit. Shoot Like A Girl and Beretta will read all submissions carefully. After the conclusion of the essay entries, the top ten (10) will be selected and voting will open for seven (7) days to select the winner. Entrants or nominees must be 21 years of age or older at the time of entry, must be a legal resident of the United States and have no criminal background (background checks will be conducted for grand-prize winner). The winner will also be required to sign a model release form, so that any photos or video from the hunt can be used online.

While everyone is encouraged to enter and all entries will be considered, Shoot Like A Girl and Beretta are specifically looking for an individual who is new to hunting or has never hunted before. The contest opens on September 23, 2021 and ends October 5, 2021 at 11:59 pm EST. Following the completion of the online essay entry portion, the top ten entrants will be contacted and the Top Ten voting opens online on the Shoot Like A Girl website on October 8 and runs through October 14, 2021. Team Federal Shooter Derrick Mein Wins USA Shooting Trap National Championship

ANOKA, Minnesota – September 23, 2021 – Federal Ammunition team shooter, Men’s Trap 2020 Olympian and defending Sporting Clays National Champion Derrick Mein has won again. This time he took top honors at the U.S. Olympic Trap Championships at Hillsdale College September 8-19. Mein continued his winning ways by qualifying 3rd with a 237/250. Did Australia make the right decision? Here’s what you need to know.

Guys, we haven’t had a shoot the shit in several weeks so I hope you haven’t resorted to therapy. What a year!

We are still dealing with the COVID-19 extravaganza, the evac from Afghanistan can only be described as a cluster-fuck of historic proportions, we are defunding police and replacing them with social workers and psychologist, the migrant border disaster, we pissed off the French with the Australian submarine deal and we find ourselves with a group of Congressional members who are more qualified to costar in a Jonny Wadd (went by numerous names) film but clearly not influencing policy. So, given the year to date events I had a difficult time deciding on an interesting shoot the shit topic.

DHS blew it, the only thing they needed to keep Haitian migrants from crossing the border was to play this and a couple of dead chickens with red ribbon around the neck

For those of you new to the site, a shoot the shit is a social interaction during which any topic can be discussed; participants don’t need to know anything about the subject under discussion, they are free to make any uninformed or unsupported comment, use uncensored profanity, insult anyone they wish or change the subject at any time. The efficacy of a shoot the shit is far superior to paying $150+ per hour to a jackass who majored in psychology so they could understand themselves. I’ll illustrate…

We are living in times where:

We commute the death sentences of convicted murderers but insist on unrestricted abortion for women.
We compensate criminals to not shoot victims instead of compensating potential victims for shooting criminals.
Women are no longer the homo sapiens who menstruate, we now have menstruating persons.
Pregnancy is no longer a female condition but I’ve yet to see an explanation on how semen travels from the asshole or oral cavity to an ovary.
We now are advancing CRT, critical race theory, in our schools, which essentially teaches children you’re a racist prick but I’m ok all on the basis of their race.
Last but not least young women are killing themselves because their bodies are not up to what they see on Instagram, TikTok or other sites. Apparently the problem is not limited to only those girls who need to raise their arms so people can tell whether they’re walking or rolling.

Let’s talk submarines!

The Australian government entered into a $40 billion deal with France for submarines back in 2016. Apparently there were delays and cost overrun concerns that Australia communicated to Paris leading to the cancellation of the contract. Australia opted for U.S. made submarines. In response, France withdrew their ambassador from Canberra and Washington D.C. . That’s politics but did Australia make the best decision.

The submarines to be supplied by the French are diesel-electric boats, the ones being purchased from the United States are nuclear, was this a good decision? It depends as there are both pluses and minuses to each option.

A nuclear submarine does not require refueling, they can literally operate for years without refueling. That’s appealing until you realize that your crew can’t remain submerged for that period of time. Patrols have practical limits like food supply and mental health. Extended patrols create marital problems and you find yourself experiencing an erection every time you walk past the shower, all deleterious to good moral.

A nuclear submarine will also have a greater thermal signature even when submerged.

A nuclear submarine is capable of sustained high speeds submerged . You could see that as being highly desirable, but even with today’s high performance passive sonar, operating at speeds higher than 12 knots reduces the effectiveness of passive sonar and using active sonar will giveaway your presence, an undesirable situation in submarine operations; lastly, unless you can do more than 50 knots you’ll never outrun an antisubmarine weapon fired at you. High submerged speeds can also lead to cavitation and produce acoustic signatures that are easily detected. During the Cold War Period, Russian attack submarines had nearly twice the shaft horsepower as our boats but acoustically sounded like a freight train moving through the water. Passive sonar could easily detect and track them at a distances of 20,000 yards.

The diesel-electric submarine is generally smaller so crew size and equipment configurations are limited; they also have a more limited diving depth. A diesel-electric submarine runs on a bank of batteries charged by a diesel engine. Charging the batteries underway requires they run on the surface, or when submerged they’ll operate at 65 feet, or so, with a snorkel mast raised.

A diesel-electric submarine running on batteries is quiet enough to approach and surface next to a surface craft undetected; inhere lies their beauty. A diesel-electric wolfpack running on battery can stalk, approach and engage an enemy fleet virtually undetected. The first indication of their presence would come after their aircraft carrier was sunk. Like a nuclear submarine, they can carry a variety of armaments.

When discussing submarine operations stealth trumps and there is not stealthier submarine that a diesel-electric boat. Their chief vulnerability comes from snorkeling to recharge batteries, they are ideally suited for delivering personnel into enemy coastal waters undetected, including harbors when needed.

Premier Body Armor Supports Demolition Ranch Armored Vehicle Test

GASTONIA, N.C. – September 22, 2021 – Premier Body Armor is pleased to announce its sponsorship of an epic test of armor plating. YouTube gun icons Demolition Ranch and Kentucky Ballistics have joined forces to test the armor plating on a B7 rated Suburban that was built by Ultra Armor under the leadership of Frank Stewart, President and CEO of Premier Body Armor.

“When I traded the team at Demolition Ranch this armored Suburban, there was one stipulation,” said Stewart. “I asked that they not shoot it. We knew they couldn’t resist, though, and it is theirs to do with as they see fit. I have every confidence that the B7 rated armor is going to take a beating. This Suburban was designed to keep running under the most extreme onslaught. The Demolition Ranch team is going to have to step up if they hope to defeat the armor.”

Stewart has led development of armor solutions for the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM), the United States Marine Corps (USMC), North American and International OEM’s, private security industries, government agencies, and the Department of Defense. Now he’s bringing his dedication to personal protection and more than a quarter century of experience to the individual armor solutions produced by Premier Body Armor.

In early 2021, Stewart traded his personal armored Suburban to Matt Carriker of Demolition Ranch for a 1,027-ounce silver bar. In a video on the Off the Ranch channel, Carriker details the trade and the agreement he’d reached with Stewart limiting what could be done with the vehicle. At the time, the spot value of 1,000 ounces of silver was estimated to be $29,000. The value of the armored Suburban was significantly higher.

Now, the Suburban has depreciated significantly. In the Demolition Ranch video, the B7 rated armor is put to the test. The performance against 9mm, .45 ACP, .223, .308 and other common calibers is truly impressive. True to form for Demolition Ranch, this test is only round one. How much punishment can the armor withstand? Stay tuned for part two.

You’ve got enough on your mind during night ops, dreading the next mornings “NVG-neck” shouldn’t be one of them! The NVG counterweight Pouch System is designed to work with the issued NVG helmet harness and helps to offset the weight of the night vision mounted on the helmet’s front. At the core of the counterweight system is the counterweight pouch. The counterweight pouch mounts directly to the back of the NVG helmet harness and will hold whatever the end user chooses for ballast. To add functionality, an elastic loop has been added to hold a glow stick.
The battery organizer card is a convenient way to fill the counterweight pouch with a functional ballast of up to 12 AA size batteries. With noise disciple in mind, the silent closure kit silences the hook on the counterweight pouch flap and allows it to be secured instead using shock cord. When paired with the battery organizer card, the silent closure kit allows the end user to silently conduct a battery change of their NVG with one hand. Finally, The strobe mohawk can be added to the Counterweight Pouch to mount a variety of infrared or visible light signaling devices. Pouch is available in Cadpat TW or Coyote Brown.
