Navies are facing a growing challenge offshore: how to maintain persistent awareness and protection across vast maritime areas without tying up crewed vessels for weeks at a time. Long patrol cycles, rising personnel costs, and the increasing presence of unmanned threats are pushing maritime forces to look for autonomous platforms that can operate far from shore, quietly and continuously.
One solution gaining traction is a long-range autonomous surface vessel designed specifically for extended missions. Recent new contracts awarded to a nine-meter uncrewed surface drone underscore how this category is moving from experimentation into routine naval use. The platform is built to remain at sea for up to 20 days, covering distances of roughly 3,700 kms, without an onboard crew, while maintaining low acoustic and radar signatures.
According to Interesting Engineering, the vessel addresses endurance first. With a fuel capacity of 550 liters and efficient propulsion, it can cruise at speeds of up to 24 kmph while conducting surveillance, monitoring, or survey tasks over wide areas. Its ability to hold position or “hover” at sea allows it to support precise data collection and subsea operations, functions traditionally requiring much larger ships.
Flexibility is a key design feature. Unlike smaller variants in the same family, this version can deploy and tow remotely operated vehicles, expanding its usefulness for seabed inspection and underwater tasks. It is also equipped to operate multibeam echo sounders at depths reaching 3,000 meters, making it suitable for hydrographic mapping, infrastructure inspection, and maritime safety missions. Despite these capabilities, the entire platform can be transported in a single standard 12-meter container, simplifying logistics and deployment.
From a defense perspective, the platform’s modularity is particularly significant. One of the newly announced configurations will integrate counter-unmanned aerial system capabilities, allowing the vessel to detect, track, and support the neutralization of hostile drones at sea. Extending counter-drone coverage offshore is becoming increasingly important as aerial threats are no longer confined to land or coastal zones. Hosting these systems on an autonomous vessel allows navies to project protective bubbles around offshore assets without exposing crews.
A second configuration focuses on hydrographic and oceanographic missions, accelerating seabed mapping and expanding coverage for navigation safety and maritime planning. Reliable, up-to-date seabed data is also critical for naval operations, undersea infrastructure protection, and route planning.
Together, these use cases reflect a broader shift toward autonomous maritime systems that combine endurance, low observability, and mission flexibility. As offshore security demands grow, long-range surface drones are emerging as a practical way for navies to extend presence and protection well beyond the horizon.

SAAMI Announces Acceptance of New Cartridges
SHELTON, Conn.—The Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers’ Institute,® Inc., (SAAMI®) has announced the acceptance of two new rifle cartridges for SAAMI standardization. SAAMI is the organization at the forefront of promoting firearm safety by creating standards that ensure safety, reliability and interchangeability of firearms, ammunition and components.

8.6 BLACKOUT — The 8.6 BLACKOUT (abbreviated name 8.6 BLK) was introduced by Q, LLC, with a 200-grain bullet traveling at a velocity of 2,200 fps and a Maximum Average Pressure of 62,000 psi.
25 Weatherby Rebated Precision Magnum — The 25 Weatherby Rebated Precision Magnum (abbreviated name 25 WBY RPM) was introduced by Weatherby with a 133-grain bullet traveling at a velocity of 3,000 fps and a Maximum Average Pressure of 65,000 psi.

The release consists of 500 total collectible rifles, representing “Two .50s for 250.” This exclusive series includes 250 twenty-inch Model 82A1® rifles and 250 twenty-inch M107A1® rifles, each meticulously crafted as a tribute to American independence and innovation.
The 20-inch Model 82A1 rifles feature serial numbers LIBERTY001 through LIBERTY250 and are finished in a custom Cerakote® design incorporating the iconic “Join or Die” snake motif.

From a technical standpoint, the RHINO ELITE 60DS retains all the performance features for which the Rhino platform is known. Chambered in .44 Remington Magnum, it features a 6-inch barrel, bottom-chamber firing geometry for reduced muzzle rise, a double/single-action trigger system, Hogue rubber-style Cerakoted aluminum grips, and fiber-optic front and rear sights. The cylinder block, cylinder rotation lock, and hammer block ensure secure and reliable operation.

Lightweight, Multi-Fuel Light Provides Broad Fitment for Compact and Sub-Compact Handguns
EAGLEVILLE, PA, January 20, 2026 – Streamlight® Inc., a leading provider of high-performance lighting equipment, launched the TLR-3®X / TLR-3®X USB, designed to combine powerful performance with multi-fuel capability. The new light brings extraordinary brightness and beam distance to compact and select sub-compact guns and provides a practical and reliable gun light option to shooting enthusiasts.
The new light operates on either one CR123A battery or one Streamlight SL-B9® rechargeable lithium-ion battery pack. Weighing only 2.15 ounces with a disposable battery or 2.25 ounces with the SL-B9 battery, the TLR-3X is one of the narrowest offerings in the TLR product series, measuring at just 2.75 inches in length and 1.07 inches wide. Its high-power LED delivers 500 lumens and 6,500 candela over a beam distance of 161 meters. With an SL-B9 Li-Ion 850mAh USB-C rechargeable battery inserted, the run time is one hour; using a CR123A battery, the run time is 1.5 hours.
“The TLR-3X delivers everything in a sleek, compact design — a high-quality, multi-fuel light that produces 500 lumens. It combines rugged durability, and broad fitment for a wide range of handguns,” said Michael F. Dineen, President of Streamlight. “This new light is ideal for everyone, from beginners to seasoned shooting enthusiasts.”
Ready for use in seconds, the TLR-3X’s innovative, snap-on-and-tighten design ensures quick and safe installation and removal without placing hands in front of the gun muzzle. Rear switches to the left and right of the trigger guard provide ambidextrous operation. Offering both momentary and constant on operation, the light also features a user-activated strobe.
The TLR-3X is available in three models: 1913 model fits handguns equipped with standard 1913 rails (see Streamlight’s Fit Guide for current compatibility); 1913 Slim model to fit the Glock® 43X® MOS, 48 MOS, 43X® Rail, and 48 Rail, FN Reflex®, and FN Reflex® XL; and the P365 model, which fits the Sig Sauer® P365 and P365® XL (closed rail systems only – does not fit the P365® XMACRO). A reversible clamp system enables the 1913 model to fit short and standard railed handguns.
Manufactured from heat-resistant engineered polymer, the light also features a scratch-resistant BOROFLOAT® high-temperature glass lens. With live-fire tested, impact-resistant construction, the new light has an IPX7 rated design, making it waterproof to 1 meter for 30 minutes. The TLR-3X is also compliant with the Trade Agreements Act.
The TLR-3X comes with a single CR123A lithium disposable battery, while the TLR-3X USB model ships with a rechargeable lithium polymer battery pack; both models can accept either battery. The TLR-3X has an MSRP of $170.00 and the TLR-3X USB has an MSRP of $179.00. Both come with Streamlight’s Limited Lifetime Warranty.
