New Partner with a Payer Video Showcases How Manufacturers and Agencies Work Together for Wildlife

WASHINGTON, D.C. — NSSF^®, The Firearm Industry Trade Association, in partnership with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) and Beretta USA, is proud to release the latest installment in the Partner with a Payer^® video series. This new video offers a behind-the-scenes look at how Pittman-Robertson federal excise tax dollars—generated by firearm, ammunition and archery manufacturers—are directly funding conservation, habitat restoration and public access to hunting and shooting opportunities.

As part of this initiative, representatives from USFWS and TWRA visited Beretta USA’s manufacturing facility in Tennessee to see firsthand how the federal excise taxes paid by manufacturers contribute to conservation. These funds, paired with hunting and fishing licenses funds from hunters and anglers, provide vital support for state-led wildlife restoration efforts, helping to protect and enhance populations of species like elk, deer, turkey and bear, while also maintaining shooting ranges and improving access for hunting and fishing opportunities.

“Wildlife restoration dollars are so important to our agency. They touch just about every project that we have on the ground,” said Emily Buck, Director of Communications and Outreach at Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency. “We’re so incredibly grateful for our hunters and anglers who contribute to the funding model, as well as the federal excise taxes that come from manufacturers that really make what we do possible.”

Pittman-Robertson funding is one of the most successful conservation models in history, ensuring that those who participate in hunting and shooting sports directly contribute to wildlife restoration. Beretta USA, a company that has been in business for nearly 500 years, is one of many manufacturers that play a key role in this funding model.

The cases offer greater corrosion resistance, tensile strength (2x stronger), and elasticity than brass. NAS³ cases will not split, chip, crack, or grow (stretch), are fully reloadable (using S3 Reload dies), and can be reloaded many more times than brass cases. NAS³ cases have been tested successfully by customers to pressures over 70k psi. NAS³cases can be picked up with a magnet. The head can be colored for branding purposes and easy load identification.

NAS³ is “Best in Class” for maintaining consistent velocity between rounds. In an independent test performed by H.P. White Laboratory (a major munitions testing facility), rounds fired using NAS³ cases achieved a velocity standard deviation of 0.093 FPS (124-grain FMJ bullet, 4.2 grains Titegroup powder, 10 rounds, extreme variation 3fps).

Understanding Bullet Construction for Big-Bore Hunting

The first thing a hunter should consider when hunting large or dangerous big game is cartridge caliber and bullet construction. Matching the right cartridge and bullet will enhance the hunting experience and help avoid a potentially dangerous confrontation with certain types of big game.

Big-bore firearms generally give an advantage to hunters of tough big game. Their frontal area is larger than medium or small bores and transfers energy more efficiently to the target animal. Big-bores are .400” in diameter or greater. Medium bores range from .300” to .399” and small bores are .299” and smaller. There is some overlap in these ranges, but these are generally accepted figures.

The following chart outlines the frontal area advantage of .500” diameter bullets.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Outdoor Heritage Education Center (OHEC) has officially joined the +ONE^® Movement, an initiative led by NSSF^®, The Firearm Industry Trade Association, to promote mentorship and education in hunting and the shooting sports. As an official +ONE Partner, OHEC stands alongside other leading organizations that are working to ensure the next generation has the knowledge, skills and opportunities to participate in these time-honored traditions.

Since its founding in 1998, the Outdoor Heritage Education Center has been dedicated to connecting youth and adults with the outdoors through hands-on education, mentorship and conservation awareness. Through initiatives like the annual Midwest Outdoor Heritage Education Expo (MOHEE), which introduces thousands of students to mentored outdoor activities and its Touch of the Wild Education Trailers, which bring interactive wildlife displays to schools and events, OHEC provides immersive learning experiences that foster an appreciation for hunting, shooting sports and natural resource stewardship.

“OHEC believes lock, stock and barrel that mentoring another person in outdoor activities such as shooting sports and hunting/fishing can overcome any hesitation to participate in those activities. NSSF Praises Bipartisan U.S. House FFL Protection Act Introduction

WASHINGTON, D.C. — NSSF^®, The Firearm Industry Trade Association, praises the bipartisan introduction of the Federal Firearms Licensee (FFL) Protection Act, H.R. 1773, introduced by U.S. Reps. John Rutherford (R-Fla.) and Jared Golden (D-Maine). The bipartisan bill would strengthen and enhance criminal penalties for thefts of firearms from federally licensed firearm retailers. This legislation sends a strong message to those violent criminals engaging in these illicit activities and helps provide for safer communities, assists law enforcement and protects the livelihoods of firearm retailers.

“This bipartisan legislation is what true gun safety looks like. Congress is sending a clear message that the safety of our communities is nonnegotiable and targeting firearm retailers to steal guns in order to commit further crimes is intolerable,” said Lawrence G. Keane, Senior Vice President and General Counsel for NSSF. “The firearm industry is grateful to Congressmen Rutherford and Golden for reaching across the aisle to provide those firearm retailers who follow the law the protection they deserve. This legislation assigns the responsibility for crime where it belongs – with the criminal. These are real solutions that make our communities safer.”

The Federal Firearms Licensee (FFL) Protection Act builds on the efforts NSSF has taken to address robbery and burglary of firearms through the partnership with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) on Operation Secure Store^®, one of several Real Solutions. Safer Communities.^® firearm industry safety initiatives. As part of Operation Secure Store, NSSF matches ATF reward offers for information regarding these crimes that leads to the arrest and conviction of the criminals responsible and recovery of the stolen firearms. Additionally, NSSF helps educate firearm retailers on steps they can take to reduce the chance guns will be stolen from them during a burglary or robbery, and in cooperation with ATF, conducts retailer store security seminars, assists retailers with store security audits of their premises and endorses and promotes the use of security products like smash resistant display cases.

The most recently available ATF data shows that Operation Secure Store is working. There were 277 firearm retailer burglaries in 2021, compared to 577 in 2017 and stolen firearms dropped 65 percent, from 7,841 firearms stolen from retailers in 2017 to 2,936 in 2021.

Like the freedom of saddle-hunting has overrun the whitetail woods, running-and-gunning is becoming ever more popular with the mossback crowd. More guys and gals are stalking, settling-in, and moving along to the next field-scape until filling that precious tag. This versus hunkering in a fortified and fully outfitted single position, hoping and praying.

According to Blocker Outdoors Marketing Director Steve Allie, “Agile, lone wolf hunting necessitates a minimalist approach.” That means operating fully self-contained, and the Finisher Chest Pack fits perfectly into that program.

“There hasn’t been an option for turkey hunters like this before,” said Allie. “Literally, all the necessary field gear fits and can be easily accessed.” ‘Fitting’ means inside and outside, too. “Hunters will appreciate all the thoughtfully considered storage areas.”

Externally, a generous selection of stretch woven exterior pockets accommodate mouth calls, pot calls, and strikers. Added side pockets accommodate even more on-the-go gear. Finally, there’s a dedicated box call pocket with shock cord closure system to keep the call in place.

The Finisher Chest Pack’s universal, zippered top-loader pocket is large enough to accommodate most binoculars. And once inside, you’ll find an easy access stretch mesh pocket and shot shell slots.

Allie chimed in with another usage option that, to be honest, was discovered by a field tester. “A Thermacell Portable Mosquito Repeller fits right in the box call slot. If you’ve ever hunted mosquito infested woods, this might end up being your favorite feature.” Fortunately, too, a box call also fits in the universal side pockets.

Government-Supplied Pilot Vehicle Interface Used for Unmanned Combat Air Vehicles

SAN DIEGO – 04 March 2025 – General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) achieved another major milestone in the development of Unmanned Combat Air Vehicles (UCAVs) by flying U.S. government-provided autonomy software aboard a company-owned MQ-20 Avenger^®. The demonstration was part of the Air Force Test Center’s all-domain test series called Orange Flag 25-1, which took place February 19-21 at Edwards Air Force Base, California.

The demonstration included the use of a government-provided Pilot Vehicle Interface (PVI), showcasing GA-ASI’s commitment to advancing its UCAV ecosystem through collaboration with partners and government entities and integrating cutting-edge technologies. Avenger is a jet-powered UAS used extensively by GA-ASI as a test bed for future Autonomous Collaborative Platforms.

GA-ASI also demonstrated the ability to rapidly swap between autonomy systems midflight over Proliferated Low Earth Orbit (PLEO) satellites utilizing an autonomy product from Shield AI.

Orange Flag 25-1 is part of the larger Orange Flag Evaluation and Demonstration Event series. This event brought together various stakeholders to test and validate advanced aerospace technologies in realistic operational scenarios.

The government-provided autonomy software – known as a reference autonomy stack – was integrated into the GA-ASI Avenger and demonstrated autonomous flight operation capabilities focused on conducting air-to-air engagements. The government-provided PVI enabled seamless control and monitoring of the autonomy stack, highlighting the interoperability and flexibility of GA-ASI’s UCAV ecosystem. The Shield AI stack demonstrated autonomy skills for safe administrative phases of flight.

What the flights proved was that GA-ASI aircraft can quickly go from company-written software, to government-provided, to other vendors’ software as needed. This reinforces that the new generations of GA-ASI’s UCAVs can seamlessly get upgrades as fast as developers finish them. Just as a mobile phone can get new and better features with each update, so too can new UCAVs get more capable and more versatile.

“This demonstration marks a significant achievement in our ongoing efforts to operationalize autonomy for UCAVs,” said GA-ASI Vice President of Advanced Programs Michael Atwood. “Flying the government reference autonomy stack at Orange Flag 25-1 and utilizing the government-provided PVI underscores our commitment to delivering robust and adaptable autonomy solutions for the warfighter. We especially appreciate and salute the support we received from the 309^th Software Engineering Group.”

The successful flight at Orange Flag 25-1 further validates GA-ASI’s dedication to maturing its open standards-based autonomy software ecosystem. By adhering to government-owned and maintained standards, GA-ASI ensures rapid integration of best-of-breed capabilities from third-party providers, enhancing the overall operational effectiveness of UCAV platforms.

GA-ASI continues to demonstrate its commitment to advancing autonomy for UCAVs through a series of flight tests and collaborations with government and industry partners. These efforts are aimed at developing an autonomy infrastructure that enables rapid integration and validation of tactical software applications while maintaining safety of flight and providing warfighters with the most advanced capabilities possible. GA-ASI has been selected by the U.S. Air Force to build and fly the Collaborative Combat Aircraft (CCA).
