New findings demonstrate that lighter ammunition reduces troop casualties, improves mobility, and increases battlefield effectiveness.

Eubank, KY (March 2025) – Shell Shock Technologies, LLC. (SST), a leading innovator in the ammunition industry, released a pioneering analysis, Weight Reduction of Lighter Weight Ammunition & Its Impact on Troops and Aircraft / Vehicles, highlighting the life-saving benefits of its innovative lightweight ammunition. The study, based on over 885,000 simulations, confirms that a 30 percent reduction in ammunition weight significantly enhances soldier survivability, mobility, and endurance.

A key finding reveals that for a 13-member Marine Rifle Squad engaging an enemy in a defensive position, rushing across 100 meters of rough desert terrain, a 15 lbs. weight reduction for troops can cut squad casualties from 8.9 to 3.5 per engagement. With ammunition accounting for 8 lbs. per troop, a 30 percent reduction (2.4 lbs. per troop) contributes to 16 percent of the total weight savings—potentially saving one troop per engagement.

Beyond reducing casualties, SST’s lightweight ammunition improves combat efficiency by allowing soldiers to carry more rounds without increasing their load, boosting mobility and agility in the battlefield. This improved efficiency allows for faster deployment and reduced physical strain. Lighter loads also lessen fatigue, enabling troops to operate at peak performance for longer durations in high-stress environments.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee, Department of Economic and Community Development Commissioner Stuart C. McWhorter and Barrett Firearms Manufacturing, Inc. officials announced today the company will expand in Rutherford County, locating in a new facility at 8808 Manchester Pike.

Barrett plans to invest $76.4 million and create 183 new jobs through the project. The estimated 250,000-square-foot Barrett Manufacturing & Technology Campus will serve as the company’s primary global firearms manufacturing site and will offer employees a cutting-edge campus environment, housing state-of-the-art manufacturing, a corporate office and other major operations. Additionally, the NIOA Group, Barrett’s Australian-owned parent company, intends to locate its U.S. headquarters at the facility upon completion.

Founded in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, in 1982, Barrett Firearms Manufacturing, Inc. is a Tennessee-based firearm and ammunition manufacturer. In 2023, the company was acquired by NIOA, a global firearms, weapons and munitions company headquartered in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.

Since 2020, TNECD has supported 16 economic development projects in Rutherford County, resulting in approximately 2,600 job commitments and more than $323 million in capital investments.

SAN DIEGO – 19 March 2025 – General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) has released its latest evolution of the company’s payload command and control (C2), and tactical situational awareness software called TacSit-C2^®. The new version builds on GA-ASI’s more than 25 years of experience in developing and deploying C2 for various payloads that are integrated onto GA-ASI’s world-leading Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS). TacSit-C2 is part of General Atomics’ Quadratix software enterprise.

TacSit-C2 provides tactical situational awareness so that UAS operators can plan and execute missions. Operators will use TacSit-C2 to view all sensor data concurrently, allowing them to cross-cue payload capabilities. GA-ASI’s development team of experienced payload C2 veterans used intuitive user experience (UX) to simplify payload operations. The new version of TacSit-C2 is expected to be fielded before the end of the year.

“As part of the Quadratix set of software solutions, TacSit-C2 seamlessly integrates Multiple Intelligence Signal Processing (Multi-INT) C2 into a single application that includes radar, Electronic Intelligence (ELINT), Communications Intelligence (COMINT), and Electro-optical/Infrared (EO/IR) sensors,” said Darren Moe, GA-ASI senior director for Automation, Autonomy and Artificial Intelligence. “We anticipate that implementation of TacSit-C2 will significantly reduce manpower requirements.”

TacSit-C2 features GA-ASI’s Multi-Mission Controller (MMC), which enables one user to control multiple heterogeneous unmanned vehicles at the same time.

TacSit-C2 is scalable, easily accommodating the addition or removal of workstations depending on the mission. The system runs on commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) computer hardware from a laptop to a server. TacSit-C2’s Software Development Kit (SDK) empowers third parties to add additional capabilities such as new payloads.

Both models deploy in less than 30 seconds and feature a telescoping pole and rotating head to provide superior illumination from above. The Portable Scene Light extends to 72 inches, offering broad-area lighting, while the Portable Scene Light EXT reaches 84 inches, providing greater elevation for overhead illumination and reducing glare at eye level. Onboard stabilizing legs improve balance on uneven terrain and ensure stability in high winds, making them ideal for outdoor and emergency response applications.

The lights operate on a rechargeable 12V sealed lead acid battery, which is maintenance-free and rechargeable up to 500 times. For extended use, they can run indefinitely when plugged into an AC or DC power source.

Built to withstand tough conditions, the Portable Scene Light family is IP67-rated dust-tight and waterproof, allowing for 30 minutes of submersion in one meter of water. The high-impact thermoplastic housing provides superior durability, making the lights suitable for harsh industrial and emergency environments. Engineered for stability in extreme conditions, the units are designed to withstand continuous exposure to high winds when fully extended.

The Portable Scene Light measures 22.5 inches long and 6.5 inches wide, weighing 25.8 pounds, while the Portable Scene Light EXT measures 25.5 inches long and 6.5 inches wide, weighing 26.3 pounds. Both lights feature a compact, collapsible design for convenient storage and transport.

Available in yellow, the Portable Scene Light has an MSRP that ranges from $1,364.25 to $1,442.85 depending on the model, while the Portable Scene Light EXT is priced at $1,521.50. NDIA will be hosting the 2025 CBRN Defense Conference, June 23 – 25, 2025, at the Hyatt Regency Baltimore Inner Harbor in Baltimore, MD. The theme of this year’s conference is New Ways of Thinking That Demand Innovation and Better Outcomes.

The NDIA CBRN Defense Division promotes the exchange of information—technical and operational—related to defenses against weapons of mass destruction between the Department of Defense and other government agencies, industry, and academia. To do so, the Division addresses various functional areas: defensive measures, chemical weapons demilitarization, treaty compliance, industrial base issues, and domestic preparedness.

The goal of this conference is to provide a venue to promote education, awareness, and collaboration across the CBRN community to foster innovation and rapid development of CBRN capabilities. The conference aims to provide insight and information concerning national strategies, program priorities, and execution plans across policy and RDTE.

Individuals wishing to submit a poster for consideration are required to submit a concise abstract of 4,000 characters or less no later than Friday, May 2, 2025. Authors will be notified whether their proposed abstract has been accepted for presentation about mid-May.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The National Deer Association (NDA) has joined the +ONE^® Movement, a national mentorship initiative led by NSSF^®, The Firearm Industry Trade Association, that encourages peer-to-peer mentorship in hunting and shooting sports. As an official +ONE Partner, NDA strengthens a national coalition of organizations working to recruit and support new hunters, ensuring the future of hunting and conservation.

Research shows that millions of people are interested in hunting but lack the knowledge or guidance to get started. By fostering peer-to-peer mentorship and supporting organizations with structured, adoptable mentorship programs, +ONE ensures new hunters have the resources, confidence and opportunities to participate. While individuals play a key role in mentoring others, +ONE Partners like NDA provide large-scale solutions that introduce new hunters to the field in a meaningful way.

As a leader in science-based deer management, hunter education and conservation advocacy, NDA is committed to uniting hunters, state and federal wildlife agencies, conservation groups and non-hunters in support of wild deer and their habitat. At the core of NDA’s R3 (Recruitment, Retention and Reactivation) efforts is its nationally recognized Field to Fork program, which provides structured, hands-on mentorship experiences to help new hunters develop the skills and confidence needed for success.

(March 2025) – Tasmanian Tiger®, a tactical nylon line of products distributed exclusively for the US market by Proforce Equipment, Inc., announces the availability of the TT MODULAR COMBAT PACK 24 SL in the U.S. Market. This small yet highly modular combat backpack is designed for adaptability, featuring the newly developed Y2 Carrying System that allows for an exceptional range of back-length adjustments, accommodating both petite and very tall users.

The 24-liter TT MODULAR COMBAT PACK 24 SL is built for mission readiness, offering a laser-cut MOLLE system and MOLLE hook-and-loop on the inside for limitless modularity. It features three front pockets with dividers for customizable gear storage. The lower front pocket is specifically designed to fit three magazines, ensuring quick access in high-pressure situations. The main compartment holds 19L, while the upper front pocket holds 2L, the middle front pocket holds 1L, and the lower front pocket holds 2L. The adjustable shoulder straps allow the pack to be worn comfortably over protective vests. It also has a removable hip belt, padded fins with zippered pockets, and removable hook-and-loop.

Designed for light load-outs and extended wear, the innovative Y2 Carrying System provides a fully adjustable back-length system that accommodates users of all sizes. The reinforced Y-shaped harness design features shoulder straps that can be fine-tuned for height and length, ensuring an optimal fit. A removable rear panel with an aluminum support rail enhances stability and load distribution while maintaining a low-profile design that integrates seamlessly with a padded back construction. The TT MODULAR COMBAT PACK 24 SL weighs 60 oz. / 7.75 lbs. and measures 21.25 x 11.5 x 7 in. / 54 x 29 x 18 cm. It is made from Cordura® 700 Denier (Multicam 500 den) and is available in Black, Olive, and Coyote for an MSRP of $329 and Multicam for $379.
