The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into malware development is emerging as a significant cybersecurity threat, marking a new phase in how malicious actors operate. Traditionally, AI was not widely associated with malware, but with the rise of generative AI tools, cybercriminals are increasingly exploiting this technology to enhance their attacks.
Despite companies’ best efforts to minimize hackers’ chances of using their tools for nefarious reasons, AI can be used in malware development in several ways. AI can be used to search for exploitable vulnerabilities, and readily available tools like ChatGPT allow even inexperienced hackers to write malicious scripts. AI-powered malware can also adapt to its environment, changing its behavior and code structure dynamically to evade detection.
According to a report by Cybernews entailing the use of AI by threat actors, one of the earliest groups to take advantage of AI capabilities for malware creation is CyberAv3ngers, an IRGC-backed hacker group targeting critical infrastructure sectors such as water systems, energy, and manufacturing. The group uses AI to improve vulnerability research, automate malware debugging, and craft scripts that manipulate industrial control systems (ICS) and programmable logic controllers (PLCs).
Similarly, SweetSpecter, a Chinese state-backed group, leverages OpenAI services to develop AI-driven intelligence collection tools and malware capable of bypassing traditional detection mechanisms. This ability to evade security measures makes their malware particularly potent, allowing it to persist undetected in targeted networks.
The Forest Blizzard group, also known as APT28, has used AI to create convincing fake government documents for phishing campaigns. By analyzing victim communication patterns, they craft targeted attacks that can harvest sensitive information with great precision.
These groups represent the growing use of AI in cyberattacks, a trend that is expanding among both well-organized and less technical hacker groups. As AI technology continues to evolve, so will the sophistication of cyber threats. Security solutions will need to adapt to this new landscape to stay ahead of these advanced, AI-driven cyberattacks.

TLR-1® HP-X USB/TLR-1® HP X Delivers 77,000 Candela; Beam Reach of Up to 555 Meters
EAGLEVILLE, PA, April 24, 2025 – Streamlight® Inc., a leading provider of high-performance lighting and weapon light/laser sighting devices, introduced the TLR-1® HP-X USB/TLR-1® HP-X, a high-candela weapon light for full-size and compact railed handguns, with an intense long-range beam for downrange illumination in a variety of tactical and outdoor situations. The multi-fuel light gives users the choice of using either cost-saving SL-B9® USB-C rechargeable battery packs or 3-volt CR123A lithium batteries.
“Our newest weapon light provides an industry-leading level of candela for handguns, giving tactical, outdoor and other users enhanced visibility under low light conditions, such as when searching a dark alley or lighting an outdoor path at night,” said Streamlight President Michael F. Dineen. “The TLR-1 HP-X USB also offers a variety of convenient features such as multi-fuel technology, interchangeable switches to suit users’ shooting styles, and a hinged face cap to allow for convenient, front-loading battery replacement.”
The TLR-1 HP-X USB/TLR-1 HP-X features a white power LED and a special optic that produces a concentrated beam with optimum peripheral illumination. The new light delivers 1,300 lumens and 77,000 candela over a 555-meter beam distance when using two Streamlight SL-B9® Li-Ion 850mAh USB-C rechargeable battery packs, and 1,000 lumens and 53,000 candela over 460 meters with two 3-volt CR123A lithium batteries inserted. The rechargeable battery packs charge within 2.5 hours via an included USB-C cord or an optional bank charger. Run times range from 60 minutes using the SL-B9 battery packs to 90 minutes using disposable batteries.
The new light has customizable rear switches (standard or extended) to the left and right of the trigger guard for ambidextrous operation and to match shooting preferences. The new model provides momentary and constant-on operation and includes a user-activated strobe. It also features a hinged face cap with robust release controls that allow for front-loaded battery changes without removing the light from the firearm.
The TLR-1 HP-X USB/TLR-1 HP X quickly mounts to most weapons safely and securely, attaching without the need to put your hands in front of the muzzle. The light also includes keys for a variety of full-size and compact railed handguns.
Fabricated from 6000 series machined aluminum with a black anodized finish, the TLR-1 HP-X USB/TLR-1 HP-X has a switch housing made from impact- and chemical-resistant engineering polymer. The new light weighs 5.43 ounces using two SL-B9 batteries and 5.20 ounces with two CR123A batteries. It measures 3.70 inches long.
With extensively live-fire tested, impact-resistant construction, the model features an IPX7-rated design, making it waterproof to 1 meter for 30 minutes.
The new light is packaged with a standard switch mounted on the light plus an included extended switch, and is available in Black. The TLR-1 HP-X USB ships with two SL-B9 battery packs and a “Y” USB-C cable and has an MSRP of $359.00. The TLR-1 HP-X ships with two CR123A lithium batteries and has an MSRP of $335.00. Both lights come with Streamlight’s Limited Lifetime Warranty.

Bond Arms® Celebrates 30th Anniversary
Granbury, TX (April 24, 2025) – For 30 years, Bond Arms has exemplified what it means to be “American Tough, American Made,” as the Texas-based company has provided firearms enthusiasts with the best products at the best prices. Greg Bond, a longtime tool and die maker, founded Bond Arms in 1995 in Granbury, Texas. From there, the company has become the premier manufacturer of modern derringer-style pistols.
Derringer-style pistols had stayed the same design between the 1860s and the mid-1990s until Greg Bond invented the “rebounding hammer,” added retractable firing pins, added a trigger guard, and introduced a cross-bolt safety. Incorporated in 1995 and licensed by the BATFE as a firearms manufacturer and dealer, Bond Arms didn’t rise to the top overnight. It was a long, grueling climb—marked by relentless determination, countless late nights, and a refusal to compromise on quality. Through perseverance and a commitment to innovation, Bond Arms carved out its place in the market and ultimately became the largest manufacturer of derringers in the firearms industry. Greg’s brother, Gordon Bond, purchased the company from Greg in 2007 and continues to be the company’s president today.
Traditional Bond Arms derringers are modular and made in a variety of centerfire calibers including .22LR, .380 ACP, 9mm, .40 S&W, .30 Carbine, .327 Federal Magnum, .44-40 Winchester, .44 Special, .45 ACP, .45 LC, .357 Magnum, .38 Special, 10mm, .45 Long Colt /.410 Shotshell, and the 45-70 Gov’t. Most models feature a removable trigger guard for a more traditional derringer appearance. Bond Arms’ derringers are constructed so that the barrels can be changed and switched from one centerfire caliber to another, and they have grips that can be switched based on comfort.
The company continued to grow in 2016 when they acquired the rights to the Boberg XR9-S bullpup semiautomatic pistol, redesigned it, and marketed it as the Bond Arms BullPup 9, a 7+1, 9mm with a 3 7/20″ barrel.
In 2019, Bond Arms introduced the Rough series, which are structurally identical to the classical derringer line but are not as highly polished. These have a much lower cost and are designed to be used in a tougher environment than the original line. That was followed in 2020 by the introduction of the Stinger model, an aluminum frame derringer available in .22LR, 9mm, .380ACP, and .38 Special. In 2022, they released the Stinger RS (Rough Series), which has a stainless steel frame and weighs 16oz. That was followed by the Cyclops®, a single-bore pistol chambered in the massive .45-70 Gov’t in 2023.
For over 30 years, Bond Arms has continued to grow while not compromising value or quality and doing so without passing additional costs on to the consumer. “American Tough, American Made” is not just a motto for Bond Arms, it’s a promise to their customers. Shell Shock Technologies Signs Licensing Agreement with Phantom Defense for 8.6 BLK Ammunition
Small design changes, massive ballistic gains. Phantom Defense is taking 8.6 BLK to the next level – with Shell Shock Technologies NAS3 case technology under the hood.
Eubank, KY (April 2025) – Shell Shock Technologies, LLC. (SST), a leading innovator in the ammunition industry, is proud to announce a new licensing agreement with Phantom Defense under its recently launched License Program. Through this partnership, Phantom Defense will manufacture the 8.6 Blackout (8.6 BLK) cartridge utilizing SST’s revolutionary NAS3 two-piece case design.
Phantom Defense’s upgraded 8.6 BLK will be built using SST’s proprietary case architecture, offering significant performance improvements while ensuring manufacturing consistency. Utilizing SST’s custom-built assembly equipment and trusted U.S.-based vendor network, Phantom Defense can deliver ammunition that matches SST’s rigorous standards.
“Phantom Defense is the ideal partner to showcase how our case technology can take modern ammunition to new heights,” said Peter Foss, Managing Partner and CEO of Shell Shock Technologies. “Their 8.6 BLK line exemplifies how small design changes can result in massive ballistic gains. Discussions are underway with additional manufacturers seeking to differentiate their ammunition through improved ballistic performance, lighter weight, and reduced component costs. About Shell Shock Technologies NAS3 Cases:
NAS3 cases are 50 percent lighter than brass cases, offer greater lubricity, and will not abrade, clog, foul, wear out, or damage breach and ejector mechanisms. The cases offer greater corrosion resistance, tensile strength (2x stronger), and elasticity than brass. NAS3 cases will not split, chip, crack, or grow (stretch), are fully reloadable (using S3 Reload dies), and can be reloaded many more times than brass cases. NAS3 cases have been tested successfully by customers to pressures over 70k psi. NAS3 cases can be picked up with a magnet. The head can be colored for branding purposes and easy load identification.
NAS3 is “Best in Class” for maintaining consistent velocity between rounds. In an independent test performed by H.P. White Laboratory (a major munitions testing facility), rounds fired using NAS3 cases achieved a velocity standard deviation of 0.093 FPS (124-grain FMJ bullet, 4.2 grains Titegroup powder, 10 rounds, extreme variation 3fps).

MARINES SURPASS 1,000 MQ-9A FLIGHT HOURS AS CAPABILITIES EXPAND
SAN DIEGO – 23 April 2025 – General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. is proud to announce that the U.S. Marine Corps has passed more than 1,000 flight hours with MQ-9A unmanned aircraft in support of service-level training exercises and weapons and tactics instructor courses. This accomplishment involved a combined aircrew of dedicated Marines and GA-ASI personnel, highlighting the seamless integration and operational effectiveness of the MQ-9A platform within the Marine Air-Ground Task Force (MAGTF) and the MAGTF Unmanned Expeditionary (MUX) Program.
These demanding exercises showcased the advanced capabilities of the MQ-9A by integrating cutting-edge technologies such as the SkyTower networking support pod, Automatic Identification System, latest-generation Lynx® multi-mode radar and various other tactical networks and capabilities. The joint teams successfully conducted satellite launch and recovery activities operating out of a strategic expeditionary landing field near Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center Twentynine Palms, Calif., further demonstrating the platform’s precision targeting and reconnaissance abilities in realistic training scenarios.
Previously, an uncrewed aircraft required a crew positioned at the airfield where it was operating to fly it for takeoff via direct line-of-site radio link. Then a mission crew could take over the aircraft from anywhere via satellite. Today, satellite launch and recovery means the main Marine mission crew, which can be sited anywhere, flies the aircraft from takeoff via the satellite link. This capability, validated in the Marine Corps operations, enables huge flexibility and expands the locations from which units can operate.
A key element of these exercises also included not only live-fire training but also comprehensive mission planning, networked communications, and multi-domain coordination. These events provided invaluable experience in integrating the MQ-9A into complex, distributed combat scenarios across the full range of Marine Air-Ground Task Force operations. From supporting maneuver elements with real-time intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance to validating command and control networks, the MQ-9A consistently demonstrated its adaptability and operational value. This milestone underscores the platform’s critical role in enhancing situational awareness, mission execution, and overall effectiveness across the battlespace.
“Reaching 1,000 flight hours for these rigorous training exercises alongside our Marine Corps and Air Force partners is a testament to the reliability and adaptability of the MQ-9A platform,” said GA-ASI President David R. Alexander. “This achievement highlights the power of collaboration and the critical role the MQ-9A can play in supporting the MAGTF’s mission readiness.”
The successful integration of the MQ-9A platform across recent operations represents a major milestone in aligning capability with the MAGTF construct. These events showcased the MQ-9A’s ability to support distributed operations, extend sensor coverage, and provide persistent intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance in support of dynamic mission sets. The coordinated efforts of Marines and GA-ASI personnel underscored the platform’s high degree of interoperability and its growing role in enabling expeditionary operations in contested environments.
To date, GA-ASI has delivered 17 MQ-9A UAS to USMC. The USMC awaits delivery of three additional aircraft by the end of this year.
