HK Adds MR762A1 Long Rifle Package (LRP) for 2013.

136

Taking an essentially standard MR762A1 (caliber 7.62 x 51 mm NATO) semi-automatic rifle, Heckler & Koch USA turns it into a more effective precision rifle by an astute addition of the right optics and accessories. A Leupold 3-9VX-R Patrol 3-9 x 40 mm scope and mount, HK G28 adjustable cheekpiece buttstock, and LaRue Tactical BRM-S bipod are the primary add-ons that make the MR762A1 Long Rifle Package (LRP) more than a sum of parts.

A semi-automatic rifle originally developed from the fully automatic HK417, the MR762A1 LRP employs the same HK proprietary gas piston operating system found on current HK rifles and carbines, using a “pusher” rod in place of the gas tube normally found in AR15/M16/M4-style firearms.

This method of operation virtually eliminates malfunctions that are common to direct impingement gas systems since hot carbon fouling and waste gases do not enter the receiver area. This is the same key feature critical to the success of the current generation of HK rifles used by leading military and law enforcement customers.

The MR762A1 LRP uses a barrel produced by Heckler & Koch’s famous cold hammer forging process. The highest quality steel is used in this manufacturing

process, producing a long-life barrel that provides superior performance with minimal degradation of accuracy and muzzle velocity after prolonged use. The barrels are manufactured in Germany and finished in the USA.

The MR762A1 used in the “Long Rifle Package” is being produced with the same commitment to quality as German-made HK firearms. By using joint U.S./ German manufacturing, Heckler & Koch leverages the relative strengths of two continents to make the preeminent AR-type firearms, combining the design innovations of the USA and Germany into superior products.

Additional accessories and add-ons for the LRP variant of the MR762A1 include an ERGO Pistol Grip from Falcon Industries, the same Blue Force Gear sling used on the HK M27 IAR supplied to the USMC, and an OTIS cleaning kit. The rifle package, complete with one 20 and one 10-round magazine is shipped ready to use with the scope attached in a compact 42-inch Model 1720 Pelican case.

The MR762A1 LRP has all the features sought by civilian precision shooters as well as law enforcement organizations seeking a basic and lighter weight alternative to the HK G28 series of designated marksman rifles.

HK Adds The New HK45 Tactical To Its 2013 Lineup.

HK TacticalOriginally developed for the U.S. military’s next generation handgun competition, the new HK45 “Tactical” comes standard with a threaded barrel and three-dot tritium night sights.

With a choice of three frame colors (black, tan, or green), the full-size HK45 Tactical (HK45T) model uses an ergonomic grip design that includes changeable backstraps together with molded finger grooves for optimum shooting. And like all HK45 pistols (compact, full-size, Tactical models), they’re made at HK’s American manufacturing facility using American and German components.

The HK45 Tactical has a proprietary internal mechanical recoil reduction system that employs a flat recoil spring in tandem with a polymer bushing sleeve to reduce the recoil forces effecting the operator and the weapon, improving shooter control during rapid firing and prolonging component service life. An “O-ring” on the threaded barrel means better slide-to-barrel lockup and enhanced accuracy.

The HK45T can be converted to nine different kinds of trigger firing modes including HK’s enhanced double action only “LEM” (Law Enforcement Modification) mode. The HK45T is well-suited for military, law enforcement, security use, and civilian sport shooting.

NavELite Partners with HZO Adding WaterBlock™ Technology to NavELite Compasses.

–NavELite, makers of a patented backlit magnetic compass, has signed an agreement with HzO, Inc., a provider of a patented, award winning WaterBlock™ technology used to protect electronics from damage due to moisture, water and small debris.

The newly formed partnership will allow NavELite to produce their wrist-worn, back-lit magnetic compasses with non-toxic coating applied through a vacuum deposition process to prevent water damage. HzO’s proprietary technology protects and seals the unit with a uniform film application without changing the compass appearance or weight. The WaterBlock™ is applied to the internal assemblies, wrapping the components in a protective, transparent, microscopically thin film layer.

Pikes Peak NavELite and HzO are developing a wrist-worn WaterBlocked compass based on customers’ demand for a compass that can withstand heavy humidity and the occasional submersion in water. In early testing, the WaterBlock™ compass EL panels not only lit after submersion but worked while submerged. The new compass will also feature the HzO embossed logo on the wrist strap of all WaterBlocked wrist-worn compasses. Other future projects for the new partners include adding HzO highlights to NavELite’s ongoing mobile application projects. The new WaterBlocked compasses will be arriving in 2013.

“This cutting-edge WaterBlock™ technology will benefit the men and women of the U.S. military, in addition to consumers throughout the world who use our compass for navigational purposes – often in extreme conditions – when survival counts,” said Andrew Wilson, Chief Executive Officer of NavELite.

Response To MSNBC And Gen. McChrystal’s Comments.

I have the deepest respect for Stan McCrystal and, like may Americans, am thankful for his service, but he blew this one.

Gen. McChrystal’s comments are based on his experience with the M16 and M4 rifles which are selective fire weapons that can fire continuously with a single pull of the trigger. The modern semi-automatic weapons, in the commercial space, are semi-automatic – one round is fired with the pull of the trigger and no more. Think of it as dating a transvestite. It looks like the real deal but works completely different.

What the media outlets, like MSNBC, refer to as an “assault” rifle is nothing more than a semi-automatic rifle dressed to look like a military specimen. Physically, they are constructed to impede fully automatic operation.

All of us are concerned with violence in this country but, as Gen. McChrystal knows, uninformed decisions translate to bad policy, and the electorate in this country is becoming weary of bad policy. Therefore, addressing the gun violence requires that all parties be responsible enough to review the facts.

In 2011, the FBI reported a total of 8,583 gun related homicides down from 10,129 in 2007. Of the 8,583 homicides reported for 2011, only 323 were committed using rifles. The data does not support the fallacy that modern semi-automatic rifles are the issue.

The FBI further reports that the lion’s share of gun related crimes, about 60%, are perpetrated by gangs and gang related business activities, like street level drug distribution. Chicago, which has the dubious distinction of leading the nation in gun homicides, reported that 80% of those homicides are gang activity. However, MSNBC and other “news” media never tell you this, and there is a reason for that. These organizations, have become purveyors of theater and sensationalism not impartial and factual distributors of information.

I invite Gen. McChrystal, MSNBC, CNN and others to download the FBI’s 2011National Gang Threat Assessment-Emerging Threats and read it. It is 100 pages of some amazing stuff.

Gen. McChrystal your comments are uninformed and you of all people should take to heart John K. Galbraith’s humorous quotation:

“If all else fails, immortality can always be assured by spectacular error.”

Russia’s Ratnik “Future Soldier Uniforms” Closer To Implementation.

RatnikFollowing France’s foot steps Russia’s military may soon have a fully integrated soldier system designated Ratnik.

Ratnik is a subset of our, now debunked, FCS, Future Combat Systems. This represents a major inflection point in Russia’s approach to its military. Integration of up to 40 discrete components: weapons, ballistic protection, thermal, I2, uniforms and C4ISR is at the heart of Ratnik. Concept testing has been underway for sometime

Ratnik (“Warrior”) comprises more than 40 components, including firearms, body armor, optic, communication and navigation devices, life support and power supply systems and even knee and elbow pads, said the commander of the Ground Forces, Vladimir Chirkin
    Source: http://www.defence.pk/forums/land-warfare/210444-russia-tests-future-soldier-uniform.html#ixzz2HP66TRRO

Ratnik testing is due to continue in April 2013 at the Alabino testing grounds on the outskirts of Moskva. If successful, Ratnik would be the second integration and implementation of a future soldier combat system; just behind France’s Félin.

    Ridiculous Anti-Second Amendment Arguments.

ConstitutionThe Great Gun Debate, of 2012, is replete with ridiculous arguments posed by the anti-gun lobby. You may have picked up on the new tune. Nearly all now assert that they support the right to keep and bare arms – just not weapons they consider to be “military style” assault weapons. You’ll hear comments like “…the founders could have never envisioned AK47s or AR-15s…” as they propose Draconian gun regulations, in an attempt to deny law abiding citizens their 2nd Amendment rights. Under proposed legislation, the mere attachment of a muzzle device, like a muzzle brake or flash hider constitutes a “military style” assault weapon. Nuts don’t you think?

Even more troubling is the fact that no consideration is given to the devastating damage of a vibrant domestic manufacturing complex. Talk about shooting one’s self in the foot. Is it stupidity or hypocrisy?

I submit, as a counter argument, that had the Founders known of AR-15 and AK47 rifles they would have had several in the closets and fireplace mantels.

    Thomas Jefferson

The constitutions of most of our States assert, that all power is inherent in the people; that they may exercise it by themselves, … or they may act by representatives, freely and equally chosen; that it is their right and duty to be at all times armed; that they are entitled to freedom of person, freedom of religion, freedom of property, and freedom of the press.

    George Mason

I ask, who are the militia? They consist now of the whole people, except a few public officers. But I cannot say who will be the militia of the future day. . .

    Patrick Henry

[W]here and when did freedom exist when the power of the sword and purse were given up from the people?

    Thomas Paine

[A]rms like laws discourage and keep the invader and the plunderer in awe, and preserve order in the world as well as property…

Our country and our society has evolved over the years, an irrefutable fact; however, nothing in the thoughts of the Founders, as inferred from their writings, suggest a bound or preconceived idea of what acceptable arms are.

U.S. Army Reports Suicides In 2012 Exceeded KIAs In Afghanistan.

PentagonRecent data from the Pentagon suggests the number of active-duty Army service members who died by their own hands in 2012 has potentially surpassed the number killed in action.

Preliminary information released by the Army in December showed that as of November there have been 177 suspected active-duty suicides: 113 have been confirmed as suicides, while 64 remained under investigation. Among not-on-active-duty service members (Army National Guard and Army Reserve) there have been 126 suspected suicides: 97 have been confirmed as suicides and 29 were under investigation.

In contrast, the Department of Defense said 295 Americans were killed in Afghanistan in 2012, out of a total 394 ISAF forces killed while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

This is a troublesome statistic despite the Army’s efforts to increase outreach and programs aimed at recognizing troubled service members.

The Associated Press reported that while suicide has been linked to combat stress, many of the victims are soldiers who have never deployed. Other pressures – health, marital or financial problems – are suspected causes.

An Open Letter From Ted Nugent To Vice President Biden…

    Joe,

Congratulations on your appointment to lead a presidential commission to end gun-related violence.

As a National Rifle Association board member, husband, father, grandfather, law enforcement officer and genuinely concerned American, I too want nothing more than to see evil, senseless massacres stopped. I concur with the president and caring people everywhere: It’s time to end these slaughters.

As you gather your team to study massacres and how to stop them, I offer to you my services and a lifetime of expertise on guns in all their implementations. While I strongly differ with President Obama on many issues, I agree with him that we must work with all we can possibly muster to end these tragedies.

As you begin to formulate your thoughts on how to proceed with your task, I hope your starting point is to provide the president with the facts regarding these slaughters and to offer him common-sense recommendations that are void of a political agenda and will actually make a meaningful difference. If the American people smell a political agenda here, that will only bog down our efforts.

In the spirit of goodwill and a deep desire to end gut-wrenching, incredibly sad and senseless rampages, I offer you the following recommendations:

I encourage you to persuade the president to lead this effort by providing a number of public service announcements. The announcements should include watching out for each other, encouraging parents to be more involved in their children’s lives regarding entertainment choices, and knowing various indicators we should watch for in people who are unstable.

Clearly, the focus on solving these mass murders must be on the mentally ill. In almost every instance of mass killing, there were ample red flags and warning alarms that either were avoided or were not acted upon by mental health professionals, family members, friends and acquaintances. While I deeply respect an individual’s privacy and civil liberties, the American people need basic awareness of what indicators to look for regarding potentially violent, psychotic people. Our collective safety begins with being collectively vigilant.

You will find in your assessment that all of the massacres have occurred in gun-free zones. What gun-free zones create is an environment where good people are unarmed and virtually defenseless against an unstable person intent on committing mass murder. Gun-free zones are modern killing fields. I implore you to recommend that Congress pass a law to ban gun-free zones immediately.

Just like your full-time, armed security detail, qualified citizens with authorized, legal concealed-carry permits should be able to carry weapons virtually everywhere to protect themselves, their loved ones and innocents.

I also implore you to strongly consider recommending that trained school officials have access to weapons to protect students. Just as airline pilots may have access to a weapon to prevent another Sept. 11 mass murder, school officials also should be trained to stop shooting sprees at our schools.

I don’t encourage you to recommend a ban on any weapon, magazine capacity or type of ammunition. That won’t accomplish anything other than prevent the 99.9 percent of responsible, law-abiding Americans from enjoying these modern weapons as we do now. We should never recommend or develop public policy that restricts the rights of the good guys based upon what evil people do or might do. If that were the case, alcohol still would be banned. As you may know, drunk drivers kill an estimated 12,000 Americans each year and hurt tens of thousands more.

I encourage you also to keep this misnamed “gun violence” in perspective. While all deaths are tragic, the vast majority of gun-related murders and violence are committed by gang members who do not use guns that look like — but do not perform like — military assault weapons. The majority of crimes that involve a firearm are committed with handguns. I concurred with you back in 2008 when you stated, “If [Mr. Obama] tries to fool with my Beretta, he’s got a problem.” I trust you still maintain those sentiments.

Again, I offer you my services and a lifetime of expertise. I look forward to hearing from you.

    Sincerely,

    Ted Nugent

    The 2013 Counterterrorism Calendar

The Holidays have now passed into history. You had a tactical Christmas, and you even received the much coveted Hot Shot Calendar. So, what’s next? Look to the folks at the National Counterterrorism Center.

The NCTC has published its 11th edition of the Counterterrorism Calendar. It is a 5 x 9 spiral bound reference packed full of information but quite difficult to get in its desk planner incarnation.

The calendars are a resource for individuals engaged in anti-terror operations; especially those working in the field. In it you’ll find tips for dealing with biological and chemical incidents, “suspicious financial activity indicators,” or people using false passports. You wont get any eye candy but you will gain a wealth of information. Oh, did I mention that conspicuously absent from the 2013 edition is UBL

As I said earlier, you won’t be able to get the bound copy, unless you are plugged in. However, an on-line version will be published on the NCTC Web site.

If this is your first exposure to the NCTC calendar, download the 2012 version below. It’s a worthwhile read.

Has Senator Feinstein Gone Over The Gun Cliff?

    You Decide…

    From the NRA-ILA

Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.)—author of the federal “assault weapon” and “large” ammunition magazine ban of 1994-2004—has announced that on the first day of the new Congress—January 3rd— she will introduce a bill to which her 1994 ban will pale by comparison. On Dec. 17th, Feinstein said, “I have been working with my staff for over a year on this legislation” and “It will be carefully focused.” Indicating the depth of her research on the issue, she said on Dec. 21st that she had personally looked at pictures of guns in 1993, and again in 2012.

According to a Dec. 27th posting on Sen. Feinstein’s website and a draft of the bill obtained by NRA-ILA, the new ban would, among other things, adopt new definitions of “assault weapon” that would affect a much larger variety of firearms, require current owners of such firearms to register them with the federal government under the National Firearms Act, and require forfeiture of the firearms upon the deaths of their current owners. Some of the changes in Feinstein’s new bill are as follows:

    · Reduces, from two to one, the number of permitted external features on various firearms. The 1994 ban permitted various firearms to be manufactured only if they were assembled with no more than one feature listed in the law. Feinstein’s new bill would prohibit the manufacture of the same firearms with even one of the features.

    · Adopts new lists of prohibited external features. For example, whereas the 1994 ban applied to a rifle or shotgun the “pistol grip” of which “protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon,” the new bill would drastically expand the definition to include any “grip . . . or any other characteristic that can function as a grip.” Also, the new bill adds “forward grip” to the list of prohibiting features for rifles, defining it as “a grip located forward of the trigger that functions as a pistol grip.” Read literally and in conjunction with the reduction from two features to one, the new language would apply to every detachable-magazine semi-automatic rifle. At a minimum, it would, for example, ban all models of the AR-15, even those developed for compliance with California’s highly restrictive ban.

    · Carries hyperbole further than the 1994 ban. Feinstein’s 1994 ban listed “grenade launcher” as one of the prohibiting features for rifles. Her 2013 bill carries goes even further into the ridiculous, by also listing “rocket launcher.” Such devices are restricted under the National Firearms Act and, obviously, are not standard components of the firearms Feinstein wants to ban. Perhaps a subsequent Feinstein bill will add “nuclear bomb,” “particle beam weapon,” or something else equally far-fetched to the features list.

    · Expands the definition of “assault weapon” by including:

    · Three very popular rifles: The M1 Carbine (introduced in 1944 and for many years sold by the federal government to individuals involved in marksmanship competition), a model of the Ruger Mini-14, and most or all models of the SKS.

    · Any “semiautomatic, centerfire, or rimfire rifle that has a fixed magazine with the capacity to accept more than 10 rounds,” except for tubular-magazine .22s.

    · Any “semiautomatic, centerfire, or rimfire rifle that has an overall length of less than 30 inches,” any “semiautomatic handgun with a fixed magazine that has the capacity to accept more than 10 rounds,” and any semi-automatic handgun that has a threaded barrel.

    · Requires owners of existing “assault weapons” to register them with the federal government under the National Firearms Act (NFA). The NFA imposes a $200 tax per firearm, and requires an owner to submit photographs and fingerprints to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE), to inform the BATFE of the address where the firearm will be kept, and to obtain the BATFE’s permission to transport the firearm across state lines.

    · Prohibits the transfer of “assault weapons.” Owners of other firearms, including those covered by the NFA, are permitted to sell them or pass them to heirs. However, under Feinstein’s new bill, “assault weapons” would remain with their current owners until their deaths, at which point they would be forfeited to the government.

    · Prohibits the domestic manufacture and the importation of magazines that hold more than 10 rounds of ammunition. The 1994 ban allowed the importation of such magazines that were manufactured before the ban took effect. Whereas the 1994 ban protected gun owners from errant prosecution by making the government prove when a magazine was made, the new ban includes no such protection. The new ban also requires firearm dealers to certify the date of manufacture of any >10-round magazine sold, a virtually impossible task, given that virtually no magazines are stamped with their date of manufacture.

    · Targets handguns in defiance of the Supreme Court. The Court ruled in District of Columbia v. Heller that the Second Amendment protects the right to have handguns for self-defense, in large part on the basis of the fact handguns are the type of firearm “overwhelmingly chosen by American society for that lawful purpose.” Semi-automatic pistols, which are the most popular handguns today, are designed to use detachable magazines, and the magazines “overwhelmingly chosen” by Americans for self-defense are those that hold more than 10 rounds. Additionally, Feinstein’s list of nearly 1,000 firearms exempted by name (see next paragraph) contains not a single handgun. Sen. Feinstein advocated banning handguns before being elected to the Senate, though she carried a handgun for her own personal protection.

    · Contains a larger piece of window dressing than the 1994 ban. Whereas the 1994 ban included a list of approximately 600 rifles and shotguns exempted from the ban by name, the new bill’s list is increased to nearly 1,000 rifles and shotguns. Other than for the 11 detachable-magazine semi-automatic rifles and one other semi-automatic rifle included in the list, however, the list appears to be pointless, because a separate provision of the bill exempts “any firearm that is manually operated by bolt, pump, lever, or slide action.”

The Department of Justice study. On her website, Feinstein claims that a study for the DOJ found that the 1994 ban resulted in a 6.7 percent decrease in murders. To the contrary, this is what the study said: “At best, the assault weapons ban can have only a limited effect on total gun murders, because the banned weapons and magazines were never involved in more than a modest fraction of all gun murders. Our best estimate is that the ban contributed to a 6.7 percent decrease in total gun murders between 1994 and 1995. . . . However, with only one year of post-ban data, we cannot rule out the possibility that this decrease reflects chance year-to-year variation rather than a true effect of the ban. Nor can we rule out effects of other features of the 1994 Crime Act or a host of state and local initiatives that took place simultaneously.”

“Assault weapon” numbers and murder trends. From the imposition of Feinstein’s “assault weapon” ban (Sept. 13, 1994) through the present, the number of “assault weapons” has risen dramatically. For example, the most common firearm that Feinstein considers an “assault weapon” is the AR-15 rifle, the manufacturing numbers of which can be gleaned from the BATFE’s firearm manufacturer reports, available here. From 1995 through 2011, the number of AR-15s—all models of which Feinstein’s new bill defines as “assault weapons”—rose by over 2.5 million. During the same period, the nation’s murder rate fell 48 percent, to a 48-year low. According to the FBI, 8.5 times as many people are murdered with knives, blunt objects and bare hands, as with rifles of any type.

Traces: Feinstein makes several claims, premised on firearm traces, hoping to convince people that her 1994 ban reduced the (relatively infrequent) use of “assault weapons” in crime. However, traces do not indicate how often any type of gun is used in crime. As the Congressional Research Service and the BATFE have explained, not all firearms that are traced have been used in crime, and not all firearms used in crime are traced. Whether a trace occurs depends on whether a law enforcement agency requests that a trace be conducted. Given that existing “assault weapons” were exempted from the 1994 ban and new “assault weapons” continued to be made while the ban was in effect, any reduction in the percentage of traces accounted for by “assault weapons” during the ban, would be attributable to law enforcement agencies losing interest in tracing the firearms, or law enforcement agencies increasing their requests for traces on other types of firearms, as urged by the BATFE for more than a decade.
Call Your U.S. Senators and Representative: As noted, Feinstein intends to introduce her bill on January 3rd. President Obama has said that gun control will be a “central issue” of his final term in office, and he has vowed to move quickly on it.

Contact your members of Congress at 202-224-3121 to urge them to oppose Sen. Feinstein’s 2013 gun and magazine ban. Our elected representatives in Congress must here from you if we are going to defeat this gun ban proposal. Picatinny Rail Adapter For The REDRING® Optical Sight Is Now Available.

Redring® USA LLC, importer and distributor of Redring® optical shotgun sight, introduces the Redring® Picatinny Rail Adaptor that fits on any tactical shotgun or rifle with a Picatinny rail.

REDRINGThe Picatinny Rail Adaptor is made of rugged anodized aluminum and quickly mounts on any Picatinny rail platform with just two screws. The adaptor and Redring® do not affect the balance of the gun or the user’s visual plane, in fact, the Redring® sight allows officers to keep both eyes open while performing room clearing scenarios.

Attached to any patrol or tactical shotgun or rifle, the Redring® sight provides officers or security professionals the added edge in a fast paced environment where individual officers are performing room entries or moving through close quarters.

Redring PRAAnother important feature of the Redring® sight for law enforcement or security operations is the sight adapts to light conditions; in low-light the ring light is weaker and during bright sunlight the ring light is stronger and more visible.  The Redring® was originally introduced to help beginner and seasoned shotgun shooters hit more targets successfully through acquiring a better sight picture on a moving target.

For more information on the advantages to using the Redring® on your shotgun, visit www.redringusa.com.

    Letter To The 113th Congress.

    113th Congress

    Distinguished members of Congress,

Some of your colleagues have responded to the Newtown, CT tragedy with a promise of new legislation to ban standard magazine capacities and modern semi-automatic rifles, erroneously referred to as assault rifles.

I respectfully submit that if cooler heads prevailed one could refer to a hammer as an assault hammer or a baseball bat as an assault bat.

There are a number of reasons why I think you should oppose any legislation of the sort.

    1. In 2011 the FBI recorded 8,583 gun related homicides; this is down 15% from 2007. Furthermore, 6,220 of those homicides were committed using a hand gun and 323 were committed using a rifle. So the data does not support the approach to addressing the problem.

    2. I call your attention to the FBI’s 2011 National Gang Threat Assessment – Emerging Trends. By familiarizing yourselves with that report, you’ll understand that 60% of all violence in this country is gang related and gang related business activities like street level drug distribution. Of that 60%, ninety-four percent is committed using firearms. The report also addresses the methods in which these gangs acquire firearms. Ladies and gentlemen, they are far more creative and bold than I could have imagined. If in fact your intent is to address gun violence, then you must address the gang issue, which is the source of the vast majority of it. The proposed gun related legislation will only impact the law abiding citizen.

    3. Finally, there are approximately 500 businesses that derive 50%, or more, of their revenues from designing, manufacturing, customizing and selling modern semi-automatic rifles. Legislation currently being proposed by some of your colleagues will ensure that 500 companies close their doors. The impact will be felt all along the supply chain as well. All this at a time when our economy needs all of the jobs it can create.

    4. The 500 companies referenced in line item 3 are overwhelmingly owned and operated by veterans, or qualified disable veteran owned businesses. They happen to be companies that must take on the additional operating costs of the Affordable Health Care Act and the proposed increases of marginal tax brackets on incomes greater than $250,000.

Ladies and Gentlemen, as a country we need to take a deep breath and a step back. I urge you not to support any legislation that infringes on the Second Amendment, or law abiding citizens. I’ll close with a favorite quotation from John K. Galbraith: “If all else fails, immortality can always be assured by spectacular error.”

I wish you all the very best in the coming New Year!

    Sincerely,

    Sal Palma

What Senator Feinstein Will Propose In January 2013.

feinsteinIf this doesn’t motivate you nothing will.

Senator Diane Feinstein, (D) California, a long time proponent of gun control has plans to rid the nation of “evil” assault weapons. The fact that enacting these measures will do nothing to deter or prevent events like Aurora and Newtown, or that more than 500 businesses, who derive 50% or more of their revenues from designing, manufacturing and selling modern semi-automatic rifles, accessories and related service, will close their doors is no cause for concern to the Senator.

Also impacted will be second tier companies that are the key suppliers to these 500 firms, and businesses engaged in training.

Compounding on the ridiculous is that many of theses companies, which are service related disabled veteran or veteran owned businesses, are the very same organizations that will be asked to absorb the high costs associated with the Affordable Health Care Act; as well as the increases in marginal tax brackets demanded by the current administration.

Senator Feinstein’s proposals, now as in the past, fly in the face of national crime statistics, which show a 15% decline in gun related homicides from 2007 to 2011, and that 60% of all gun violence is correlated to gangs and gang activity. Making Senator Feinstein’s proposed legislation poorly reasoned and  completely whimsical.

A Summary of Senator Feinstein’s Proposal

    • Bans the sale, transfer, importation, or manufacturing of:
      • 120 specifically-named firearms
      • Certain other semiautomatic rifles, handguns, shotguns that can accept a detachable magazine and have one military characteristic
      • Semiautomatic rifles and handguns with a fixed magazine that can accept more than 10 rounds
    • Strengthens the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban and various state bans by:
      • Moving from a 2-characteristic test to a 1-characteristic test
      • Eliminating the easy-to-remove bayonet mounts and flash suppressors from the characteristics test
      • Banning firearms with “thumbhole stocks” and “bullet buttons” to address attempts to “work around” prior bans
    • Bans large-capacity ammunition feeding devices capable of accepting more than 10 rounds.
    • Protects legitimate hunters and the rights of existing gun owners by:
      • Grandfathering weapons legally possessed on the date of enactment
      • Exempting over 900 specifically-named weapons used for hunting or sporting purposes and
      • Exempting antique, manually-operated, and permanently disabled weapons
    • Requires that grandfathered weapons be registered under the National Firearms Act, to include:
      • Background check of owner and any transferee;
      • Type and serial number of the firearm;
      • Positive identification, including photograph and fingerprint;
      • Certification from local law enforcement of identity and that possession would not violate State or local law; and
      • Dedicated funding for ATF to implement registration

Response From GAO On Colt Defense, LLC Protests – FOIA Is Not Carte Blanche

In the midst of the Colt Defense protests, there was a great deal of scuttlebutt flying around. Quiet frankly, without a specific and detailed understanding of the protests and their legal basis, the topic cannot be addressed fairly and accurately, so that no one side is maligned.

To that end, I submitted a request for Colt’s (2) original  filings back on 29-Nov-2012. I received this response from the GAO this morning.

A final note just to put things into perspective:

    1. In 2007 vehicle fatalities ( consists of motorcycles, people that died after 1 yr. and people that died within 30 days) was just over 90,000, this is .04% on a population of 250 million registered vehicles.
    2. For the same year, 2007, all firearm homicides totaled 10,129 against a firearm population of 45 million, this is .02% (Note that I did not use accidental deaths which is ~1,500 a much lower number) If we add the 1,500 accidental deaths to homicides we get 11,629 or .0258%

    Closing comments:

I would much rather spend time reviewing guns and gear but it’s important that you the reader understand and see through the manure being fed to the general public, either through incompetence or malicious intent to deceive. I want to think it’s incompetence. You  decide!

PMSCs Grow In Capabilities and Diversity

Readers that have followed my writing already know what my stance is on PMSC,s , Private Military and Security Company. However, for those that are new to this blog, I’ll try to summarize my thoughts for you.

The greatest threat to our safety and national security can be found in the underdeveloped nations of the world. Their inability to establish healthy and vibrant economies play into the hands of warlords, chieftains, terrorists and corrupt politicians. Without an economy to support the indigenous population, these countries increasingly rely on foreign aid; much of which ends up in the wrong hands through defalcation or other means; making it  impossible to elevate people and empower them to take control of their lives. Yet, many underdeveloped nations remain a veritable, untapped, cornucopia of resources, labor and potential markets, but lack of security increases the threat of crime or terror, which ultimately dissuades most enterprise from investing in and establishing a presence in the regions.  Regrettably, it is both inconceivable and impractical to expect a military presence in these countries; hence …  PMSCs to the rescue!

Soon after the emergence of Blackwater International, PMSCs began to play a critical role in securing personnel and corporate assets in areas previously denied or simply too risky to consider viable. Application of private security firms have been making a difference, and the results has been the successful expansion of business in the underdeveloped nations of the world. Once thought to be a collective of gunslingers and bodyguards, private security companies are responding to conditions where military forces are either ineffective or not cost effective.

Over the years Private Military and Security Companies have developed considerable depth and breadth as you’ll see in the Paramount Group video “Who We Are” below.

Silincerco’s 5.56 SAKER Is In Production and Will Begin Shipping in 2013.

    Silencerco-Saker-04

First announced at SHOT 2012, the SAKER rifle suppressor features three exciting new developments. The MAAD, Multiple Accessory Attachment Device, is an interchangeable centerfire rifle mounting strategy that allows you to interchange the Saker’s mount so that you can attach the Saker to a preexisting quick detach mount. To the customer that means that if you have an AAC QD or Surefire QD you’ll be able to successfully mount the SAKER on your platform without changing your original mount. This is a huge savings in cost and a great gain in flexibility.

The majority of centerfire rifle baffles on the market use Inconel. Silencerco’s SAKER diverges and uses a HOPLON baffle. This patent pending baffle technology protects the Saker’s baffles from erosion thus increasing its durability. Much as armor on an armored vehicle deflects the debris from an IED, the Hoplon Baffle deflects debris and cuts down on baffle erosion up to 90%.

If you’ve been plagued by those annoying little dings on your existing suppressor’s front cap, you can rest easy. Silencerco’s SAKER has a front cap that is threaded on to the welded body, so it be easily replaced or accommodate future enhancements – hum, possibly Silencerco-Saker-06add another baffle (just a guess).

Customer may also choose the company’s TrifectaRS flash hider, which the company proudly claims to be the most advanced quick detach mount on earth. The RS stands for Resonance Suppression which is a patent pending technology that keeps the flash hider from ringing like a tuning fork. The Trifecta uses three prongs of different lengths which eliminates inter-prong resonance.

COLUMBINE STUDENT’S FATHER 12 YEARS LATER!!

From A Post By Dennis Peace

Guess our national leaders didn’t expect this.

On Thursday, Darrell Scott, the father of Rachel Scott, a victim of the Columbine High School shootings in Littleton, Colorado, was invited to address the House Judiciary Committee’s subcommittee. What he said to our national leaders during this special session of Congress was painfully truthful.
They were not prepared for what he was to say, nor was it received well. It needs to be heard by every parent, every teacher, every politician, every sociologist, every psychologist, and every so-called expert! These courageous words spoken by Darrell Scott are powerful, penetrating, and deeply personal. There is no doubt that God sent this man as a voice crying in the wilderness. The following is a portion of the transcript:

“Since the dawn of creation there has been both good &evil in the hearts of men and women. We all contain the seeds of kindness or the seeds of violence. The death of my wonderful daughter, Rachel Joy Scott, and the deaths of that heroic teacher, and the other eleven children who died must not be in vain. Their blood cries out for answers.
“The first recorded act of violence was when Cain slew his brother Abel out in the field. The villain was not the club he used.. Neither was it the NCA, the National Club Association. The true killer was Cain, and the reason for the murder could only be found in Cain’s heart.
“In the days that followed the Columbine tragedy, I was amazed at how quickly fingers began to be pointed at groups such as the NRA. I am not a member of the NRA. I am not a hunter. I do not even own a gun. I am not here to represent or defend the NRA – because I don’t believe that they are responsible for my daughter’s death. Therefore I do not believe that they need to be defended. If I believed they had anything to do with Rachel’s murder I would be their strongest opponent
I am here today to declare that Columbine was not just a tragedy — it was a spiritual event that should be forcing us to look at where the real blame lies! Much of the blame lies here in this room. Much of the blame lies behind the pointing fingers of the accusers themselves. I wrote a poem just four nights ago that expresses my feelings best.

Your laws ignore our deepest needs,
    Your words are empty air.
    You’ve stripped away our heritage,
    You’ve outlawed simple prayer.
    Now gunshots fill our classrooms,
    And precious children die.
    You seek for answers everywhere,
    And ask the question “Why?”
    You regulate restrictive laws,
    Through legislative creed.
And yet you fail to understand,
That God is what we need
    !

“Men and women are three-part beings. We all consist of body, mind, and spirit. When we refuse to acknowledge a third part of our make-up, we create a void that allows evil, prejudice, and hatred to rush in and wreak havoc. Spiritual presences were present within our educational systems for most of our nation’s history. Many of our major colleges began as theological seminaries. This is a historical fact.
What has happened to us as a nation? We have refused to honor God, and in so doing, we open the doors to hatred and violence. And when something as terrible as Columbine’s tragedy occurs — politicians immediately look for a scapegoat such as the NRA. They immediately seek to pass more restrictive laws that contribute to erode away our personal and private liberties. We do not need more restrictive laws.
Eric and Dylan would not have been stopped by metal detectors. No amount of gun laws can stop someone who spends months planning this type of massacre. The real villain lies within our own hearts.
“As my son Craig lay under that table in the school library and saw his two friends murdered before his very eyes, he did not hesitate to pray in school. I defy any law or politician to deny him that right! I challenge every young person in America , and around the world, to realize that on April 20, 1999, at Columbine High School prayer was brought back to our schools. Do not let the many prayers offered by those students be in vain. Dare to move into the new millennium with a sacred disregard for legislation that violates your God-given right to communicate with Him.
To those of you who would point your finger at the NRA — I give to you a sincere challenge.. Dare to examine your own heart before casting the first stone!
My daughter’s death will not be in vain! The young people of this country will not allow that to happen!”

    Magpul’s PMAG 20 M3 NOW SHIPPING / PMAG 10 M3 COMING SOON

PMAG 20 M3Magpul Industries has now added capacity to produce the much anticipated PMAG 20 M3. The new 20 round magazine brings all of the GeN M3 improvements, including the constant curve geometry and fully anti-tilt, low-friction follower, which is a change from our GEN M2, straight PMAG 20. The constant curve design incorporated in the PMAG 20 M3 results in a shorter length and easier manipulation in the prone position.

Unlike with the PMAG 30 M3, the 20 round GEN M3 will altogether  replace the GEN M2 offering in Magpul’s product line.

Magpul Industries already has a 10 round version of the PMAG in the production pipeline that should become available sometime in 2013.

Law enforcement officials in 34 jurisdictions report that the majority of gang-related crime is committed with firearms.

    1. Over 60% of all gun violence is directly attributable to gangs and gang related enterprise such as drug smuggling and distribution.
    2. Please read this.
    3. Now that you’ve read it, do you honestly believe that magazine restrictions and a weapon’s ban will alter the tide of gun violence?

Gang members acquire firearms through a variety of means, including illegal purchases; straw purchases through surrogates or middle-men; thefts from individuals, vehicles, residences and commercial establishments; theft from law enforcement and military officials, from gang members with connections to military sources of supply, and from other gangs, according to multiple law enforcement and NGIC reporting.

Gang members are becoming more sophisticated and methodical in their methods of acquiring and purchasing firearms. Gang members often acquire their firearms through theft or through a middleman, often making a weapons trace more difficult.

Enlisted military personnel are also being utilized by gang members as a ready source for weapons.

    • In November 2010, three former US Marines were arrested in Los Angeles, California, for selling illegal assault weapons to Florencia 13 gang members, according to open source reporting.47
    • In November 2010, a US Navy Seal from San Diego and two others were arrested in Colorado for smuggling at least 18 military issued machine guns and 14 other firearms from Iraq and Afghanistan into the United States for sale and shipment to Mexico, according to open source reporting.48

Gang members are employing countermeasures to monitor, intercept, and target law enforcement, sometimes with elaborate weapons and devices.

    • In February 2010, a Riverside County gang task force officer in California was nearly killed when suspected members of a White Supremacist gang rigged a zip gun on a gang task force security fence to discharge if anyone entered their property (see Figure 16). In December 2009, the same group staged a natural gas explosion at their property intended for law enforcement entering the premises.49

Gang Members Targeting Law Enforcement Vehicles for Weapons

In 2009, suspected gang members in Broward County and West Palm Beach, Florida burglarized nearly a dozen marked and unmarked law enforcement vehicles stealing firearms, ballistic vests, and police identification.

    Gangs and White-Collar Crime

NGIC reporting indicates that gangs are becoming more involved in white-collar crime, including identity theft, bank fraud, credit card fraud, money laundering, fencing stolen goods, counterfeiting, and mortgage fraud, and are recruiting members who possess those skill sets. Law enforcement officials nationwide indicate that many gangs in their jurisdiction are involved in some type of white-collar crime.

    • NGIC reporting indicates that the Bloods, Crips, Gangster Disciples, Vice Lords, Latin Kings, Mexican Mafia, Sureños, Norteños, La Nuestra Familia, Texas Syndicate, Aryan Brotherhood, various OMG and Asian gangs, and neighborhood-based gangs are engaging in white-collar crime.

Many gang members are engaging in counterfeiting because of its low risks and high financial rewards.

    • In July 2010, a Florencia 13 gang member in Los Angeles was arrested for operating a lab from his home that manufactured pirated video games.50
    • In April 2010, a member of the East Coast Crips was arrested in Los Angeles, California, for the sale of counterfeit goods and drug trafficking at a clothing store he co-owned. Police confiscated 824 counterfeit items from the store worth $43,762.51

Gang members are laundering profits from criminal activities such as drug trafficking and prostitution, through front companies such music businesses, beauty shops, auto repair shops, law firms, and medical offices.

    • Members of the Black Guerilla Family in Maryland used pre-paid retail debit cards as virtual currency inside Maryland prisons to purchase drugs and further the gangs’ interests, according to August 2010 open source reporting.52

Some gangs, such as the Bloods and Gangster Disciples, are committing sophisticated mortgage fraud schemes by purchasing properties with the intent to receive seller assistance loans and, ultimately retain the proceeds from the loans, or to comingle illicit funds through mortgage payments. Gang members are also exploiting vulnerabilities in the banking and mortgage industries for profit.

    • According to open source reporting, in April 2009, members of the Bloods in San Diego, California were charged with racketeering and mortgage fraud.53

    Law Enforcement Actions and Resources

Gang units and task forces are a vital component in targeting gangs and have played a substantial role in mitigating gang activity in a number of US communities. The majority of NGIC law enforcement partners report that their agency has or participates in a gang task force, and most utilize a gang database to track and monitor gang members in their jurisdictions. There are 168 FBI Violent Gang Task Forces in the United States, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands. In addition, ATF operates 31 Violent Crime Impact Teams (VCIT) and ICE operates eight Operation Community Shield (OCS) Initiatives nationwide (see Appendix C). The collaboration and coordination of federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies has resulted in a number of successes involving gang suppression efforts.

NGIC law enforcement partners in at least 107 jurisdictions report that law enforcement action has resulted in a decrease of gangs or gang activity in their region.

    • In March 2011, officials from DHS, CBP, ICE, ATF, and local San Diego police were involved in the arrest of over 67 gang members and associates for drugs and cross-border crimes in the San Diego, California area. Operation Allied Shield III, a part of a San Diego County initiative to focus on prevention, detection, and suppression of crimes in areas impacted by border-related crime, aimed to seize drugs and weapons and to identify and observe gang members in a proactive way.54
    • In March 2011, 35 leaders, members, and associates of the Barrio Azteca gang in Texas were charged in a federal indictment for various counts of racketeering, murder, drug offenses, money laundering, and obstruction of justice. Ten subjects were charged with the March 2010 murders of a US Consulate employee, her husband, and the husband of another consulate employee, in Juarez, Mexico.55
    • In February 2011, FBI, ATF, ICE, and DHS, and numerous state and local officials charged 41 gang members and associates from several different gangs in five districts with multiple offenses, including racketeering conspiracy, murder, drug and gun trafficking. The indictment involved members from the Click Clack gang in Kansas City, Missouri; the Colonias Chiques gang in Los Angeles; the Sureno 13 and San Chucos gangs in Las Vegas; MS-13 in Washington; and 13 Tri-City Bomber members and associates in the McAllen, Texas area.56

    Outlook

Street, prison, and motorcycle gang membership and criminal activity continues to flourish in US communities where gangs identify opportunities to control street level drug sales, and other profitable crimes. Gangs will not only continue to defend their territory from rival gangs, but will also increasingly seek to diversify both their membership and their criminal activities in recognition of potential financial gain. New alliances between rival gangs will likely form as gangs suspend their former racial ideologies in pursuit of mutual profit. Gangs will continue to evolve and adapt to current conditions and law enforcement tactics, diversify their criminal activity, and employ new strategies and technology to enhance their criminal operations, while facilitating lower-risk and more profitable schemes, such as white-collar crime.

The expansion of communication networks, especially in wireless communications and the Internet, will allow gang members to form associations and alliances with other gangs and criminal organizations—both domestically and internationally—and enable gang members to better facilitate criminal activity and enhance their criminal operations discreetly without the physical interfacing once necessary to conduct these activities.

Changes in immigrant populations, which are susceptible to victimization and recruitment by gangs, may have the most profound effect on street gang membership. Continued drug trafficking-related violence along the US Southwest border could trigger increased migration of Mexicans and Central Americans into the United States and, as such, provide a greater pool of victims, recruits, and criminal opportunities for street gangs as they seek to profit from the illegal drug trade, alien smuggling, and weapons trafficking. Likewise, increased gang recruitment of youths among the immigrant population may result in an increase in gang membership and gang-related violence in a number of regions.

Street gang activity and violence may also increase as more dangerous gang members are released early from prison and re-establish their roles armed with new knowledge and improved techniques. Prison gang members, already an ideal target audience for radicalization, may expand their associations with foreign gang members or radical criminal organizations, both inside correctional institutions and in the community upon their release.

Gang members armed with high-powered weapons and knowledge and expertise acquired from employment in law enforcement, corrections, or the military may pose an increasing nationwide threat, as they employ these tactics and weapons against law enforcement officials, rival gang members, and civilians.

Globalization, socio-political change, technological advances, and immigration will result either in greater gang expansion and gang-related crime or displace gang members as they search for criminal opportunities elsewhere. Stagnant or poor economic conditions in the United States, including budget cuts in law enforcement, may undercut gang dismantlement efforts and encourage gang expansion as police agencies redirect their resources and disband gang units and taskforces, as reported by a large number of law enforcement agencies.

    What Went Wrong In Newtown?

    By: Sal Palma

It pains me to speak about Newtown especially at a time when families mourn the loss of wonderfully innocent little children – I guess this is my way of healing.

Twenty young lives and 6 adults were maliciously extinguished by a man who wrestled with mental illness. Since this tragic event, I cannot stop thinking about their horror. God only knows what greatness these young children could have achieved; perhaps the cure for cancer, space explorers, artists or simply great leaders – God knows we need them. It saddens me, but it also points to a very real problem, which if left unchecked has the potential to devour our individual freedoms. I’m speaking of the seeming propensity to ask government to take over tasks that squarely fall on our laps. I’m speaking of individual accountability.

Since the tragic event at Newtown, the mainstream media has been frothing at the mouth about evil guns. Their objective is to demonize an inanimate object. Bestowing them with a sinister personality that has to be crushed or dealt with. The reality is that these evil firearms are nothing more than tools. Tools that can be used safely and properly at the discretion of its operator. So what went wrong at Newtown?

As the investigation progresses, we are discovering that Adam Lanzo had significant behavioral issues. Furthermore, those issues were known to Mrs. Lanzo, his mother. Having said that, and in the absence of details to the contrary , why was Adam Lanzo able to get control of those firearms. Were the weapons secured in a safe, did they have their bolts removed, or were they even equipped with trigger guards? I’ll venture to guess that the answer is no. Chances are, they were accessible and possibly even on display, or even loaded. If my assertions are correct, that oversight caused Mrs. Lanzo her life and the life of those innocent men, women and children. Continuing –

Although Sandy Hook Elementary School was able to restrict physical access to the building, there was no law enforcement presence to deter or act as a primary perimeter. A situation that could have been readily addressed with off-duty officers or armed personnel. This has already been pointed out by a number of security experts in interviews. Adam Lanza was able to breach the glass door and enter the building. Classroom doors were likely unlocked while class was in session allowing Adam Lanza to enter the classrooms and dispense his hatred and anger. Was there a silent alarm system installed? These are basic measures.

It is quite clear to me that the system failed!

The buck stops with YOU the parents. Stop handing government more and more of the responsibility for protecting your children – simply out of convenience. Being a parent is not easy, make it your business to know what your child does on the internet, what sites he or she visits and what they are doing on social media. Simply handing them an iPhone, iPad, laptop, PlayStation or XBOX does not empower them, it exposes them to unimaginable dangers. Childbirth and generosity alone does not make you a good parent. Take responsibility! It is your ship and the helm is in your hands and yours alone.

    The Gun Control Fallacy…

I was reading an article posted on CNN.com titled Gun control: Change is possible – and fast written by Philip Alpers. It is a stellar example of the benighted logic that’s employed by the anti-gun lobby in America.

Alper’s article uses Australia as an example; making ridiculous statements, that we’ve all heard too often, like “…In the years after the Port Arthur massacre (1996), the risk of dying by gunshot in Australia fell by more than 50%…”

Folks if we ban aircraft it follows that aircraft death will fall. If we ban swimming less people would drown and if we ban automobiles, less traffic fatalities would occur. The real question is what impact, if any, Australia’s 1996 ban – which many Australians see as ludicrous – has had on homicides? The answer to the question I’ve posed can be found in a government report: “Trends in violent crime” prepared by the Australian Institute of Criminology and published in June 2008.

    {1FCFD20B-7853-483B-B2B6-4E2EAB13E530}tandi359_Page_3

The entire story is told by a simple examination of figure 1, on page 3 of 6. The chart shows an over all decline in homicides that started in 1989-90-well before the 1996 ban- continuing through 1996, when the ban was instituted, and once again moving upwards in 1997-98 through 1999-2000.

So much for “assault” weapon bans and its effectiveness on homicides. If you get into the details of the report, it suggests that statistically most homicides are committed by men and they attribute the reduction in homicides to a change in demographics – meaning less men in the population.

What happened in Newtown, CT left all Americans shocked and sadden and our hearts go out to the families in that wonderful New England Community. However, the gun-control neurosis needs to be seen for what it is. A poorly reasoned approach to dealing with behavioral problems that we are too weak to face and incapable of solving.

Change is possible but fast has only been successful at creating mediocrity. Guns are not the driving force behind the senseless violence.
