Syria Slipping Further Into Chaos

If you’ve been keeping up with the news you know that the situation in Syria is deteriorating at an accelerated rate. Adding to the complexity is the support Bashar Al-Assad is receiving from the Iranian government and the stockpiles of chemical weapons that Syria has at its disposal.

It is highly unlikely given the increasing support the rebel movement is seeing and the rebel offensive on Damascus, Al-Assad will survive. Hopefully, the Iranian government will provide an exit strategy for Al-Assad and avoid a disaster of Biblical proportions. If that cooperation is not forthcoming, it is reasonable to suspect that Al-Assad will use Syria’s chemical weapons against his own people as he struggles to cling to power.

Syrians living in border towns along the Turkish and Lebanese borders are particularly vulnerable as these areas are used extensively to smuggle arms, munitions, personnel and information. Consideration must be given to defense, evacuation and preparedness for decontamination should Al-Assad make the grave mistake of using chemical weapons against these areas.

The NavELite Backlit Magnetic Compass (BLMC) Is Approved For Use By The U.S. Army Ranger Training Brigade

The NavELite Backlit Magnetic Compass (BLMC) Is Approved For Use By The U.S. Army Ranger Training Brigade In Accordance With The Published Ranger School Packing List (Optional Items).

A six-month government sponsored field testing was conducted by select 5th Ranger Training Battalion (Mountain Phase) Ranger Instructors. After performing Ranger Field Training Exercises in a variety of harsh conditions, the compasses were found to have performed flawlessly with no issues during almost daily use for navigation in the mountainous environment of North Georgia.

The NavELite compass provides the user correct magnetic orientation and an on-demand illuminated face to aid with orienteering and direction finding in low-light to no-light conditions. For military night operations the BLMC provides a tactical advantage for the soldier in dense forests, jungles, deserts, caves, buildings or other environments where the ambient light is not sufficient to read a compass. In such environments Global Positioning System (GPS) compasses can quickly become ineffective due to lack of good digital coverage.

“The NavELite compass was originally designed with guys like the U.S. Army Rangers in mind,” Carroll Miller, CTO of NavELite commented. “We have been long committed to designing and manufacturing life-saving navigation tools for the soldier and outdoor enthusiast. This approval is well-earned and appreciated.”

The NavELite BLMC can be purchased online at www.NavELite.com for a retail costof $79.99. Dealers interested in carrying the NavELite BLMC may contact info@NavElite.com  for a Dealer Package and Application.

I’m Holding My Breath Until I Turn Blue…

Democrats are making increasingly explicit threats about their willingness to let nearly $600 billion worth of tax hikes and spending cuts take effect in January unless Republicans drop their opposition to higher taxes for the nation’s wealthiest households.

One of the headlines in today’s Washington Post, and the only reason that it made to this Blog is that it graphically illustrates where voter focus should be this election year. With 26 or 27 seats up for grabs it probably wouldn’t hurt to get some folks into the job who approach it with the attitude that they are there to serve the electorate. Allowing sequestration to kick in will damage an already ailing economy and destroys our national defense posture.

LaserMotive Technology To Refuel Stalker UAV In Flight

On 11 July 2012, Lockheed Martin issued a press release about a joint test with LaserMotive using laser power to keep their Stalker UAS powered for more than 48 hours.

LaserMotive, headquartered just outside of the Seattle area, has brought to fruition one of man’s greatest ambition over the last 100 years’ which is to deliver power wirelessly. Now, only the unimaginative living on our planet would find this technology uninteresting but imagine powering a satellite from earth using a laser beam . Better yet, imagine solar collectors in space transmitting power to terrestrial ground stations. That’s the potential that LaserMotive’s technology offers.

The wireless power system starts with a laser running on power supplied from a standard industrial electrical outlet or a generator.  The laser light is shaped by a set of optics to define the beam size at its destination.  This light then propagates through air, the vacuum of space, or through fiber optic cable until it reaches the PV receiver.  This array of PV cells then converts the light back into electricity.

This video tells their story. Watch it then see what you think…

Lockheed Martin’s press release in its entirety:

PALMDALE, Calif., July 9, 2012 — Lockheed Martin [NYSE: LMT] and LaserMotive, Inc., recently demonstrated the capabilities of an innovative laser power system to extend the Stalker Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) flight time to more than 48 hours. This increase in flight duration represents an improvement of 2,400 percent.

Stalker is a small, silent UAS used by Special Operations Forces since 2006 to perform intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions.

“We’re pleased with the results of this test. Laser power holds real promise in extending the capabilities of Stalker,” said Tom Koonce, Lockheed Martin Skunk Works® Stalker program manager. “A ground-to-air recharging system like this allows us to provide practically unlimited flight endurance to extend and expand the mission profiles that the Stalker vehicle can fulfill.”

The Stalker UAS was modified for the indoor flight test to incorporate LaserMotive’s proprietary system that makes it possible to wirelessly transfer energy over long distances using laser light to create a continual source of power to the UAS. At the conclusion of the flight test, held in a wind tunnel, the battery on the Stalker UAS had more energy stored than it did at the beginning of the test. The test was concluded only because the flight had already surpassed the initial endurance goals set by the team.

“This test is one of the final steps in bringing laser-powered flight to the field,” said Tom Nugent, president of LaserMotive. “By enabling in-flight recharging, this system will ultimately extend capabilities, improve endurance and enable new missions for electric aircraft. The next step in proving the reality of this technology is to demonstrate it outdoors in an extended flight of the Stalker.”

Headquartered in Kent, Wash., LaserMotive is a privately-held research and development company specializing in laser power beaming for commercial applications.

Headquartered in Bethesda, Md., Lockheed Martin is a global security company that employs about 123,000 people worldwide and is principally engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture, integration and sustainment of advanced technology systems, products and services. The Corporation’s net sales for 2011 were $46.5 billion.

Sylvester Stallone’s Son Sage Stallone Dies Age 36

Industry icon, Sylvester Stallone, has for the greater part of his career been a symbol of god versus evil. His role in Rocky, Rambo and the Expendables pits his character against forces of oppression. Mr. Stallone has special meaning to me because of certain life coincidences. He is the spitting image of my good buddy and shipmate Rocko. I say that due to the fact that my buddy Rocko was there before Sly Stallone made it to the mainstream silver screen. Their similarity does not stop at physical appearance it extends to character. So, to me Sylvester Stallone is much more than a commodity.

My buddy Rocko with his lovely daughter.

I want to take this opportunity to extended my sincerest condolences to Sylvester on the loss of his son. Times such as these are always difficult but I hope he’ll continue being a force for good taking the fight to oppression and evil.

NavElite Wrist-Worn Backlit Magnetic Compass (BLMC) Is Coming To A Retailer Near You

Among the more pronounced deficiencies, identified by military trainers, are core individual soldier competencies like map reading and navigation. During a televised Ranger Assessment and Selection Program (RASP) held at Ft. Benning, GA, home of the 75th Ranger Regiment over 90% of the individuals tested were not able to complete a fairly straightforward navigation problem under stress.

Your ability to navigate this planet with map and compass are critical to your success and survival.

DEFIANCE® INTRODUCES THE HPS 4GSK CAL. 45 ACP HIGH PRECISION SILENCER FOR THE KRISS® VECTOR

DEFIANCE®, a manufacturer of optimized accessories for professionals, announced the release of the first DEFIANCE® Suppressor designed for the use with the KRISS® Vector family of firearms. Designated as the HPS 4GSK, the suppressor maintains compatibility with all KRISS® SMG, SBR and SDP firearms (supports M16x1 LH threaded .45 ACP models). The KRISS® Vector is an ideal host for a large volume suppressor like the HPS 4GSK so signature attenuation should be quite impressive. Even in a 16 inch barrel, the muzzle velocity of the .45ACP remains below 1100 fps, so shooters will only hear action noise.

The HPS 4GSK Cal. 45 ACP suppressor incorporates an internal baffle system consisting of two steel and three aluminum baffles strategically stacked to minimize sound and maximize suppressor service life. Constructed of T6 aluminum with a Type III MIL-SPEC black hard-anodize coating and tool steel with a QPQ coating at the threaded end, the DEFIANCE® HPS highly resists scratching and corrosion. The suppressor body and internal systems are all CNC machined from high-grade aluminum and steel alloys for long-term durability and long-life reliability. Available in .45 ACP, the DEFIANCE® HPS 4GSK weighs just over a pound at 1.1 lbs. (500 grams) and is 7.7 inches in length (197.5mm) and 1.79 inches in diameter (45.5mm).

The DEFIANCE® HPS 4GSK Cal. 45 ACP is manufactured in Switzerland and carried exclusively by KRISS USA®. I’m looking forward to some hands-on!

For more information, visit www.kriss-usa.com or call 757-821-1089.

Spyderco’s Dragonfly The Little Knife That Could

Spyderco, based in Golden, Colorado, is the perfect example of an American success story. The company was founded in 1978 by Sal Glesser and his wife Gail, who started producing knife sharpeners and in 1981 Spyderco produced its first folding knife.

Sal Glesser’s Spyderco has had a measurable impact on the tactical knife industry. In recognition of that contribution, Sal Glesser was inducted into the Blade Magazine Cutlery Hall of Fame back in 2000 at the Atlanta Blade Show. Spyderco’s commitment to our men and women in uniform is well-known and recognized.

Recently, I had the opportunity to review one of its newer member, the Dragonfly and walked away mightily impressed…

General Dynamics Unveiled A New Lightweight Medium Machine Gun.

General Dynamics Armament and Technical Products (GDATP) unveiled a new Lightweight Medium Machine Gun (LMMG) at NDIA’s Joint Armaments Conference, Exhibition & Firing Demonstration held in Seattle this past May. The new machine gun attempts to fill a gap that exists between the 7.62mm M60 and .50 BMG M2 systems. GDATP’s LMMG meets that goal using the 338 Norma Magnun round. We found that to be an interesting choice given the commitment already made by the Services to the 300 Winchester Magnum and the 338 Lapua Magnum internationally. The LMMG has a collapsible buttstock and weighs 24 lbs. (11 kg). Chambered in the 338 Norma Magnum the LMMG has a maximum effective range out to 1700 meters.

David Steimke, primary project engineer says:

‘…We baselined our design around the .338
Norma, but [it] is also compatible with the Lapua
or the [Mk] 248 [.300 Win Mag],’ Steimke added.
‘We want to maintain that flexibility because,
after all, the soldier is going to be the one to
eventually say what he wants…’

Will The 2nd Amendment Stand?

By:  Sal Palma

I read a rather troubling article published in the Bloomberg View titled “Are Guns a Pre-Existing Condition?” This is an editorial piece written by Francis Wilkinson, a Bloomberg View editorial board member. I suggest you read it.

I’ll begin by describing Wilkinson’s work as no more than an empty hulk, filled with bias and hidden agendas; however,  it is a clear indicator of what our gun owners can expect if they fail to remain alert.

In his editorial, Wilkinson attacks two important pieces of Florida legislation: “Stand Your Ground Law,”  and legislation enacted by Florida’s Governor Scott that we’ll call the “gun gag law”, which prevents medical practitioners from requiring patients to disclose whether they own a gun. Under the law, a doctor is prohibited from asking a patient if he or she owns a firearm.

At first glance the argument appears to be innocuous, almost academic; however, a more critical analysis points to a very real peril.  You see, once a patient discloses ownership of a firearm, the information becomes part of his or her’s medical records. Those medical records are then accessible and subject to review by insurance companies. Their actuaries will use that information to place gun owners in a high risk group; thereby justifying higher insurance premiums. Although under the ACA (Affordable Care Act), the unsuspecting gun owner would not be denied coverage, rest assured  insurance providers will use the data to justify higher premiums. The resultant rate increases will force the average gun owner to choose between health insurance, now mandatory, or owning a firearm. This slick and underhanded assault on 2nd Amendment rights is but the tip of the iceberg, and law-abiding gun owners can expect more of these attacks.

The Supreme Court’s decision to uphold the ACA was based on Congresses ability to levy taxes. I will bet you dollars to doughnuts that members of the Washington gun lobby are  salivating at the prospect of using the same precept to further tax firearm sales, manufacturers, ammunition and use taxes. Their objective is not to increase revenues; rather, the underlying theme is to circumvent the 2nd Amendment without taking it head on.

Universal healthcare is a right and there is not an industrialized nation on this planet that does not ensure its members have access to competent and timely medical services; however, using healthcare and the doctor patient relationship to undermine the Constitution is both immoral and dishonest.

Whether you agree with my view on universal healthcare, or not, is not the salient issue – your entitled to your opinion. However, the deliberate and orchestrated assault on the 2nd Amendment is despicable.

Bastinelli Creations Artisan and Rising Blade Master

I have recently taken notice of someone I believe to be a rather gifted knife designer,  Bastien Coves of Bastinelli Creations. Bastien is a French knife maker working out of a small shop in Paris. Bastien is not simply a gifted young artist; he is, in my view, a rising Blade Master.

Bastien’s knives exude a bouquet found only in world-class designers of superb edged weapon. There is an obvious understanding of the knife-to-hand interface in Bastien’s designs, which  seems to flow through to the very tip of its blade. Bastinelli Creations are a brilliant combination of art form with ruthless function.

I’ve contacted Bastien to determine if he has a U.S. distributor, which I believe he does not, so here is an opportunity for you to pick up a line that’s isn’t simply beautiful craft but what very clearly looks to be a superb knife.

Update:

I heard back from Bastinelli Creations and there are two stores that carry their knives.

  1. Blade HQ, Lehi, UT
  2. Arizona Custom, St. Augustine, FL

Army May Default To MultiCam As The New UCP

It is by design that I don’t write about camouflage; I do that for two reasons. First there are other web sites that will do a much better job of it than I will. Second, the concept of a “universal camouflage pattern” is naive. About two years ago, I wrote and editorial piece on the subject. I’ll summarize it for you by saying that our planet has such diversity that to effectively camouflage, even in a small geographical region, you may need several patterns and colors.

You can dress up servicemen and women as chocolate chip cookies, if you so desire, for in garrison uniform of the day, but combat uniforms must reflect, as tightly as possible, the AO. I think its high time the Army stop throwing millions at a problem that has no singular solution, and it looks like that may happen.

Matthew Cox of Military.com reports on the Army’s Recommendation that Multicam become the new Universal Camouflage Pattern or UCP.

Candidly, A-Tacs gets my vote for a highly effective pattern but would I call it universal, absolutely not. UCP is a concept that sounds good from a managerial perspective but it remains unattainable until reactive camouflage technologies come of age.

Congress Doesn’t Think The Pentagon Needs So Many Bands.

The United States Congress has approved an amendment to the 2013 Defense Authorization Bill authored by Rep Betty McCollum (D-MN) to limit DoD funding of military bands to $200 million. If it makes it through Congress, it could save $188 million.

In a statement placed in the Congressional Record, McCollum said: “Over the past four years, taxpayers have spent $1.55 billion for the Pentagon’s 150 military bands and more than 5,000 full-time, professional military musicians…. At a time of fiscal crisis the Pentagon will have to get by spending only $200 million for their musical arsenal.”

The DoD’s appetite for musical extravaganzas was first brought to light under Secretary Gate’s watch but no action was taken.

Rep McCollum working in concert with Rep. Jack Kingston (R-GA) is also moving to eliminate all Pentagon spending to sponsor professional or semi-professional sports, including auto racing. Some $80 million was spent on sports sponsorship this year, including $26 million by the National Guard to place its logo on Dale Earnhardt Jr’s NASCAR vehicle, as well as on his uniform and those of his racing team. That amendment was also attached to the 2013 Defense Authorization Bill .

Currently, the Army has 99 bands, which they plan to fund to the “tune” (no pun intended) of $221.1 million for FY 2013. If approved, it will be an increase of  $3.3 million from this year level. The Navy has 14 bands that will cost an estimated $55.6 million next year, while the Marine Corps has 12 bands that will cost $53.6 million in 2013.

Our question is how relevant to maintaining an all volunteer force are sport’s advertising and military bands?

ReconRobotics To Supply Throwbot XTs To U.S. Army.

ReconRobotics makers of the Throwbot XT, an amazing throwable miniature robot, was awarded a $13.9 million contract by the U.S. Army’s Rapid Equipping Force for up to 1,000 miniature, throwable, mobile robots.

The Throwbot XT has been in use for sometime by 500 police and security agencies, including the FBI, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and the U.S. Marshals for tactical reconnaissance in high-risk operations. The U.S. Army plans to similarly employ Throwbots in four and five man fire teams to provide the teams with real-time tactical information while conducting urban operations.

The Throwbot XT can be thrown up to 120 feet and weighs just a hair over a pound, so the entire system is easily transportable in a pack. It has built in IR capabilities and can be easily manuverable is very close quarters and crawl spaces.

I had an opportunity to experience its capabilities first had at SOFIC 2012 in Tampa.

Masterpiece Arms Adds MPA5700SST Defender Carbine To Its 5.7 x 28 mm Line.

The folks at Masterpiece Arms have been reaping the rewards that flow from entrepreneurship and innovation. Its Defender series of firearms is a classical example of what can be achieved when you offer a quality product at reasonable prices. Masterpiece Arms has demonstrated that it is possible to dispense with the fluff yet have a superior firearm; one example of that is their MPA57sst 5.7x28mm pistol. Shortly after its introduction, the MPA57sst took the market by storm. Such was its success that the company has now added the complementary MPA5700SST Defender carbine chambered in 5.7 x 28mm.

The 5.7 x 28mm has been a somewhat controversial round since first introduced by FN Herstal for their FN Five-seveN® and P90 weapon systems. SS190, as designated by FN, became know as the “cop-killer” bullet, in Washington circles, due to its alleged ability to penetrate Level II & III body armor. FN’s initial offering addressed the need for a PDW that could easily be carried by pilots, flight crews or mounted soldiers. The 5.7 x 28 mm remains an extremely practical approach to a requirement for a high velocity, low recoil, limited range round that can be loaded in large capacity magazines. As it turns out, it is quiet an effective flat shooting varmint round for ranges up to 200 meters.

MPA5700SST  Specifications

  • Side Cocker, Scope Mount
  • one (1) 16″ Threaded Barrel
  • one (1) 20 Round Polymer Magazine
  • one (1) Muzzle Brake
  • Thread Size 1/2 x 28

  • Lifetime Guarantee
  • MPA Low Profile Buttstock
  • MPA Aluminum Quadrail

Insight M3 & M6 Owner’s Can Recapitalize This Outstanding Light At A Low Cost.

When one thinks of recapitalizing, images of AH-64 Apaches and A1 Abrams come to mind; however, recapitalization is a viable alternative for a variety of things, and one of those is weapon mounted lights. Insight Technologies now part of the L3 family has, over the years, supplied all branches of the DoD, state and federal agencies with weapon mounted lights and other accessories. They are the de facto standard in a field that has seen increasing competition year over year from very substantial players. A couple of years ago Insight made a decision, which speaks volumes about them as a company, and introduced an LED upgrade kit for the M6, M3 and M2 family of lights. This was a move that undoubtedly cut into sales of the M3 LED & M6 LED and M2 LED, but it was a move that recognized the investment made by their customers over the years.

Individuals or agencies with an inventory of M2,M3 and M6 weapon mounted lights now have the ability to upgrade their Insight weapon mounted lights for just about $80, which helps the budget line considerably.

Beretta’s Latest Addition To The 90 Series Pistols – 92A1 & 96A1

There’s probably never been a more successful combat service pistol than the Beretta M9. Ergonomics, function, ease of operation, safety, capacity and reliability are unsurpassed; except for the venerable 1911 the M9 has been in service longer than any other service pistol. That speaks highly of both Beretta and the 90 series design.

The folks at Beretta have added two additional models to the 90 series line of pistol, the 92A1 and 96A1 available in 9mm and .40SW respectively. Ben Cook, with Beretta USA, details the enhancements. A great pistol just got better!

REVISION MILITARY PURCHASES MSA’S NORTH AMERICAN BALLISTIC HELMET BUSINESS

Today Revision Military, Essex Junction, VT, announced the acquisition of MSA’s North American ballistic helmet business. The purchase includes the acquisition of MSA’s U.S.-based helmet manufacturing equipment and operations located in Newport, Vermont. The former MSA facility, which specializes in large-scale production of aramid helmets for military and law enforcement, is a complement to Revision’s existing Composite Center of Excellence which outputs highly-specialized, polyethylene composite helmet shells. Having both manufacturing capabilities will enable Revision to meet current aramid helmet program requirements while also aiding customers in their quest for lighter weight, higher performance head protection solutions.

Senator Patrick Leahy of Vermont commented: “Revision Military has proven they know how to design, manufacture and deliver state-of-the-art soldier protective systems for customers across the globe. I am pleased to see a firm with such skill and experience taking over helmet production for our American soldiers and soldiers across the globe.”

Revision has committed orders from the U.S. Army to deliver approximately 100,000 helmets over the 12 months following the acquisition. Additionally, Revision will fulfill the balance of an outstanding contract for 6,000 CG634 helmets to the Canadian DND while continuing to develop current and future helmet business with law enforcement agencies.

This acquisition, coupled with Revision’s extensive international experience is expected to be instrumental in meeting demands for aramid helmets on a global scale. Importantly, being able to manufacture and deliver ACH helmets-the platform upon which Revision’s Batlskin™ Modular Head Protection System is carried-will allow Revision to deliver completely integrated and fully modular head and face protection packages to its North American and global customers.

STREAMLIGHT® LAUNCHES VEHICLE SOLAR CHARGING PANEL

Streamlight®, Inc., today introduced the Streamlight SolarStream™, a supplemental solar charging panel for emergency responder and fleet vehicles. The Streamlight SolarStream helps to offset battery drain from computer systems and other rechargeable electronics when a vehicle is off, extending battery life and limiting battery-related vehicle maintenance.

A thin-film amorphous silicon charging panel, the Streamlight SolarStream adheres to a variety of contoured surfaces. The panel allows for 14 watts of maximum power in full sunlight.

The charging system works by dispensing up to one amp of current to a vehicle’s battery, helping to prevent it from draining completely and reducing the need for jump-starts and frequent battery replacement due to battery drain. The Streamlight SolarStream maintains a trickle charge to the vehicle battery even in low sun and cloudy conditions, and is both heat and shade tolerant.

The panel measures 40.88 inches long by 13.07 inches wide, and weighs 1.3 pounds. The product’s encapsulated amorphous silicon technology offers exceptional durability and weather resistance. The product has been extensively police tested, and is tested for wind resistance to 120 miles per hour.

Designed to directly wire to a vehicle’s battery, the panel is packaged with a fuse holder and fuse, which will automatically cut off power from the panel if the included cord is damaged. The 20-foot 18AWG cord allows for a variety of installation conditions.

The Streamlight SolarStream comes with a 5-Year Limited Warranty and has an MSRP of $400.00

CamelBak® All Clear™ – Microbiological UV Water Purification.

Roughly 75% of the earth’s surface is covered by water, yet clean and clear sources of potable water are increasingly scarce. It’s not redundant to emphasize the importance of water to ecosystems and to terrestrial life forms, or at least those based on the eukaryotic model, namely human. Availability of clean potable water dictates fate and fortune for us all. Of the 75% of earth’s surface that’s covered with water, 97% is salt water and just 3% is fresh water. The fresh water available breaks down to 68.7% icecaps and glaciers, 30.1% ground water, 0.3% surface water and 0.9% other (principally in the form of water vapor in the atmosphere).

CamelBak’s All Clear Microbiological UV Water Purifier makes pure and reliable water available to you at a nominal price of $99 M.S.R.P. It is money well spent when you consider the alternative.

Revision Sawfly™Photochromic Review

Revision Military has been producing ballistic eyewear since 2003. The company introduced its Sawfly™Eye Protection System in 2004; soon after its introduction, Revision Military became a serious competitor for Oakley who enjoyed a lion’s share of the military business. It’s hard to imagine a better solution to ballistic eye protection that is as flexible and as functional as the Sawfly™. Now available in three sizes.

WARRIORGRIP Slag – High Performance Pistol Grip For Your 1911

I’ve been shooting 1911s since day one of my military life and thereafter as a civilian. As mature as the design is, nothing comes close to a 1911 for reliability and stopping power. Its limitations are magazine capacity and a stout recoil.

Those of us with 1911 experience know that grip is everything. Support hand extension and proper tensioning of the strong hand are extremely important, and the 1911 is unforgiving in that respect. The concept holds true for target shooting but is especially applicable to tactical, or combat use of the 1911. Therefor, the grip  you use makes a significant difference in how well you’re able to control your weapon.

I recently installed a pair of  WARRIORGRIP, 1911 grips. I was immensely impressed with how they feel. The Slag model, shown in the picture, has a rather cool “zombie squad” sort of look, which I thought was great. More importantly, they dig right into your hand like a spot weld.

If you want to add a useful upgrade to your 1911, I recommend that you consider a set of WARRIORGRIP pistol grips. Easily summarized as fantastic!

Military Takes On Battery Fatigue…

The Wall Street Journal, Online, ran an interesting article titled: “Fighting Form: Military Takes On Battery Fatigue” written by Keith Johnson, which speaks to the growing and urgent need for rethinking power. It has reached the point of ridiculous personally, so I can only imagine what it must be like for the troops.

I wrote an article several years ago where I discussed the “electrification of the soldier.” In that piece, I emphasized that with every passing month, new devices are introduced to the warfighter; seemingly, without any standardization on power requirements. I think the hens are coming home to roost, and the time is now to look at standardizing power requirements for soldier equipment. This thinking has to be incorporated into the accessory design thought process, from the bottom up, if measurable results are to be achieved.

The Art Of Japanese Face Reading 顔を読む

It’s the weekend and time to kick back and relax enjoy un excellent fromage, une bouteille de vin blanc et une potage Parisien; not to mention les femmes. I’m going to kick that off with a little fun and the art of Japanese face reading…

The ancient Japanese art of face reading precedes the Bushido but was only incorporated into the way of life sometime in the 14th century through migratory and cultural exchange. Although introduced in Japanese culture around that period, its true origin is China. Traces of Chinese face reading date back 4000 years; however, it did not take root until about 960 B.C. The art was used by Chinese priests and physicians to correlate a subject’s face to behavioral traits like sexuality, intelligence and character.

With some of the historical background out of the way, we decided to pick a face out of the crowd and read it. We then came up with 10 things we think a Japanese face reader would say about this individual…

10.   Knows that just looking at his face will piss you off.

   9.  While doing it “doggy” style he’s on one knee with a hand on his partner’s back and the other on his hip; watching himself in the mirror.

8.  Likes to play two-handed pocket pool so no matter what side you’re looking at he appears to have something in his pants.

7.  He’s the pivot man and flight attendant for Travolta Airways.

6. Whistles “My Bologna Has A First Name…” to drown out the voices inside his head.

5.  He has many things and you have none.

4.  Possibly Rick Sanchez post sex change.

3.  The most imaginative thought his brain has ever processed is a bowel movement.

 2.  Thinks he’s invisible but wonders why this guy is taking my picture.

1.  Likes blow drying to get the extra height.

Dear Diary…

This was sent to me by an old and respected buddy. We served together many years ago. I thought I’d share it with you because it says a great deal about us as friends and partners.

Wife’s Diary:

  • Tonight, I thought my husband was acting weird. We had made plans to meet at a nice restaurant for dinner.
  • I was shopping with my friends all day long, so I thought he was upset at the fact that I was a bit late, but he made no comment on it.
  • Conversation wasn’t flowing, so I suggested that we go somewhere quiet so we could talk. He agreed, but he didn’t say much. I asked him what was wrong;
  • He said, ‘Nothing.’ I asked him if it was my fault that he was upset.
  • He said he wasn’t upset, that it had nothing to do with me, and not to worry about it.
  • On the way home, I told him that I loved him. He smiled slightly, and kept driving.
  • I can’t explain his behavior I don’t know why he didn’t say, ‘I love you, too.’
  • When we got home, I felt as if I had lost him completely, as if he wanted nothing to do with me anymore.
  • He just sat there quietly, and watched TV.
  • He continued to seem distant and absent.
  • Finally, with silence all around us, I decided to go to bed. About 15 minutes later, he came to bed.
  • But I still felt that he was distracted, and his thoughts were somewhere else.
  • He fell asleep – I cried. I don’t know what to do. I’m almost sure that his thoughts are with someone else.
  • My life is a disaster.

 Husband’s Diary:

  • Boat wouldn’t start, can’t figure it out…
