Turn Up the Silence With Dead Air Armament Suppressors

Lawrenceville, Ga. (October 2014) – Dead Air Armament® and their new line of game-changing, 100% USA made suppressors are now available through BPI Outdoors. Dead Air product concepts  are the result of suppressor design and shooting sports industry veterans joining together to create an entirely new vision of suppressors for the civilian and law enforcement markets. Founded by former co-founder of SilencerCo® Mike Pappas and former designer Todd Magee of SilencerCo®, Dead Air Armament® aims to bring to the suppressor market uncompromising quality in design and manufacturing.

“I’m finally building the no-compromise cans that I’ve always wanted to make,” Mike Pappas, Founder and Director of Product Development for Dead Air explained. “No corporate bottom lines to deter the mission. The only thing that matters to Dead Air and myself is ‘how does it sound?’ And the Sandman® sounds awesome…”

Dead Air product line launches with the 7.62 Sandman®, which includes the Sandman-S®, Sandman-L® and Sandman Ti® models. In early 2015, Dead Air will launch their innovative .22 suppressor, the Mask-22.

What sets Dead Air suppressors apart from the competition is attention to detail in engineering and materials. Sandman® baffles are constructed from 100% Stellite®, more costly than traditional stainless steel, but offering better performance under extreme conditions and usage than Inconel®. Tubes are made from high performance precipitation hardened stainless steel, making the Sandman® series lightweight with no sacrifice on strength.

The Sandman Ti® suppressor features a titanium tube with precision rifle direct threads specifically designed for the challenging environments faced by law enforcement professionals. “The old adage, ‘close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades’ could not be more true when developing  products for professionals whose very life or lives depend on making an accurate shot in difficult circumstances,” Pappas commented, “the equipment must perform and Dead Air hits the mark!”

Dead Air Armament® products are made in the USA and distributed by BPI Outdoors, an outdoor industry leader in combining excellence of manufacturing, sourcing, distribution and marketing of outdoor products through their experienced sales channel.

Pappas’ experience and skill set have established him as an industry expert on developing the most innovative designs in the suppressor market. Pappas’ commitment to the industry and providing personal customer service have secured him a loyal following of customers and industry contacts.

Todd Magee is an engineer specializing in suppressor design since 2008. Initially hired by SilencerCo®, he pioneered and perfected some of the industry’s most innovative suppressors. Ashbury Precision Ordnance Launches The SABER® Precision Rifle (SPR)

Ashbury Precision Ordnance Mfg (APO) introduces the SABER® Precision Rifle (SPR) line based on its new SX bolt action receiver.  The SABER SX is Ashbury’s first in a new line of octagonal precision manufactured bolt action receivers for calibers up to short magnum chamberings.  The SPR-308 uses the latest innovation in the patented SABER®-FORSST® modular rifle chassis system (MRCS), an interlocking action/chassis design.

The core of Ashbury’s SPR-308 platform is the precision CNC machined SABER SX bolt action receiver, a newly engineered octagonal manufacturing collaboration with Stiller’s Precision Firearms that accepts two styles of detachable box magazines.  The fire control mechanism on SPR-308 rifles is an adjustable single-stage trigger, set to a crisp 3.5lbs.  The SPR-308 is hand crafted by a team of specially trained former USMC 2112 Precision Rifle Technicians, engineers and experienced machinists to exacting standards and precision tolerances that deliver consistent sub ½ MOA performance with RUAG’s 168gr Swiss-P Target and other premium grade match ammunitions.

The SPR-308 is a rugged precision rifle designed to produce optimum accuracy with 150 to 200 grain projectiles for a variety of precision shooting pursuits.  Using proprietary barrel engineering software, APO designed the 20 inch Pinnacle Series contour, fluted barrel in 416R stainless steel for this potent package.  The 1-in-10″ twist 5R barrel is chambered in .308Win Match and finished with a recessed target crown reminiscent of the revered USMC M40A1 sniper rifle.  SPR cartridge chambers and (optional) threaded muzzles are precisely machined to a straightness of less than 0.0002 of an inch, true to the centerline of the barrel bore.

The rifle is a standard right-hand configuration, with a left-hand model available.  The SPR-308 features a one-piece monolithic 20 MOA 12 o’clock top rail with rail space for a “co-aligned” day optic, clip on night vision or thermal imaging device.  The SABER MRCS one-piece monolithic rail provides unparalleled platform rigidity, yielding consistent shot-to-shot accuracy.  Ashbury’s SPR also features an ergonomically shaped Quattro Alloy series V-17 vented forend with 3, 6 and 9 o’clock accessory rail attachment points, variable grip angles, adjustable hand-grip-to-trigger distance, and a comfortable Ergo hand grip.

Ashbury’s new interlocking ASX-A3 MOD-1 chassis further incorporates a double locking aluminum alloy hinge and an ergonomic tactically adjustable shoulder stock (TASS) with changeable length of pull spacers, positive locking thumbscrew/bail ring cheek piece height, and rapid push button Limbsaver® recoil pad positioning, up and down.

The basic SPR-308 rifle weighs in at a lightweight 11.3lbs with an overall length of 39 3/8 inches extended, and a compact folded length of 29 5/8 inches.  There are flush cup sling swivel sockets evenly distributed along the entire length of the rifle on both sides.  The SPR-308 is coated with rugged ceramic Cerakote in Black, Olive Drab Green, Flat Dark Earth, Nordic and Tungsten Gray.  The SPR-308 is moderately priced at an MSRP of $5,650 and delivered in a lockable hard transit case.

The SPR-308K1, Ashbury’s “Special Applications Rifle” (SAR), was developed in consultation with Jim Gilliland of Shadow 6 Consulting.  Jim brings to the table a significant background as a small arms instructor and distinguished operational sniper.  He also is a strong advocate of 20″ and shorter barreled .308 rifles for dynamic situations where precision shooting from alternate positions and practical maneuverability is the rule, while still offering long range performance when necessary.

For law enforcement where typical engagement ranges are less than 100 yards, a high precision ½ MOA specialized tactical rifle makes quite a bit of sense, while retaining the capability to also engage threats well beyond 300 yards, essential.  For short to intermediate range engagements by law enforcement tactical marksmen or as a fast handling hog hunting rifle the SPR-308K1 rifle uses a 16.5 inch Pinnacle series 1-in-8″ twist barrel with a 5/8-24 threaded muzzle, Blackout muzzle brake/suppressor adapter and optional sound suppressor.

Ashbury’s SPR is also chambered in .223 Wylde, (SPR-223) designed for commercial .223 Remington or military 5.56x45mm NATO ammunition.  For more information about APO’s precision rifles, SABER-FORSST Modular Rifle Chassis Systems (MRCS), please visit the APO website or shop our online store The Armory.

About Ashbury…

Ashbury International Group Inc. is a central Virginia USA based company, having more than 19 years of international experience as a prime contractor to government agencies, military, and special operations forces as well as manufacturer of commercial shooting sports equipment.  The company provides logistics, engineering, training, ordnance manufacturing, systems integration and emergency preparedness products and services.

ATN Shot Trak HD Live Fire–Short Video

I was at the range today to run live fire tests on ATN’s Shot Trak HD. I have to tell you, you can shoot this camera on any platform without fear of recoil damage. The rear facing microphone kicks ass; making annotations extremely clear. The Shot Trak HD or X HD models are ideal for CQC training. Range for carbine and shotgun was 20-25 yards.

In the carbine drill, you can see a trigger snafu during the headshot. It was lights out, but it lacked elegance. The shot placement should have been about 2 inches to the right as you view the video. What does it say to me? It tells me I have to watch my trigger control.

ATN Shot Trak HD’s FOV at 50 Yards

One of the things that I’ve tried to communicate in my review (work in progress)  of this awesome little camera is how better suited it is to capturing a hunt or shooting session than your normal action cam. So, I shot this short video to give you a feel. I was also surprised to see how much detail is observable in an aggressively backlit scene. The Shot Trak’s rear facing microphone also greatly reduced ambient and wind noise when compared to the standard action cam. Try capturing a hog hunt on a standard action cam – not happening. You need the Shot Trak HD’s 5x magnification.

TPG BLACK Marine Plate Carrier (MPC) Receives High Scores from the NTOA

Delray Beach, Fla. (October 2014) – TPG BLACK (TPG), the exclusive line of American-made products offered by TPG,

is proud to announce that their Marine Plate Carrier (MPC) modular vest has received a score of 4.06 out of a possible 5 points from the National Tactical Officers Association (NTOA) Member Tested and Recommended Program. TPG has the privilege of displaying the prestigious NTOA Member Tested and Recommended Logo in their marketing materials.

The testing officer from Maryland remarked, “I was very pleased with the maneuverability I was afforded in the vest. Additionally, I found the Velcro flap that can be tucked within the vest to be very valuable in maintaining a tight fit to the body.” He continued to say that there was sufficient surface area to attach the majority of his necessary tools that he would carry into a tactical operation and was pleased to note that the vest itself proved buoyant when placed within water.

The MPC is a modular vest protecting the upper torso from multiple ballistic threats (depending on ballistic inserts utilized) which can be easily configured to defeat predicted mission threats at a minimum system weight. The MPC system consists of one base vest assembly made up of an outer shell base vest carrier with an optional ballistic insert set and one set of interchangeable left and right cummerbunds, one pair of removable side plate pockets, internal elastic belly-band and a quick release cable. Made in the USA at the TPG facility in South Florida, it is available in Coyote, Multi-Cam (OCP), Kryptek Mandrake™ and Black.

The testing officer from Wisconsin mentioned that he “really liked the increased movement allowed by the cut of the vest compared to his usual ERT entry vest.” He continued to say that, “I will be using the vest when deployed as a sniper. The vest is well made with sturdy stitching; it fits over my patrol uniform / internal vest and could be used for additional armor on patrol if  needed. In short, I really like the vest.”

Reader Question: What Is A Statistical Model?

statistics_standard_deviation_formula (1)Yesterday I did a little venting on how the Ebola epidemic in West Africa was being covered by the media. I referred to the fact that the role of infectious vectors was not being discussed; instead limiting discussion to human-to-human contact. “Ebola And Our Forces Overseas”

In that short piece I stated that statistical models support the assertion that human-to-human contact is the more likely means of transmitting Ebola and other hemorrhagic fevers.

Well, last night I got a question from a reader that wanted to understand what a statistical model was, so here is my response packaged in as little technical babble as possible.

Statistics is a social science used in arriving at an “objective” description of a population. Statistics attempts to be descriptive and predictive. However, statistics is fraught with problems. For example, the antigun lobby likes to cite statistics suggesting that banning guns will reduce gun homicides, you’ve all seen that. However, here is the problem with that statistic.

It is absolutely correct that if you ban guns you will reduce gun homicides, but it is a meaningless statement without looking at what banning guns did to the number edged weapon homicides, blunt object homicides, strangulations and any other means of killing a person. If you want to be judicious about your analysis you would also need to look at lives lost because individuals could not adequately defend themselves. Although the initial statement is correct, the desired objective and conclusion is way off. This is the reason why statistics is used so often when the uninformed try to have you accept and idea.  It’s also true that If you ban cars you will reduce automobile fatalities and if you ban airplanes you will reduce aviation deaths. It is a meaningless statement without looking at how that action influences substitutes. Do you get my point?

When you talk about a “population” in statistics you are talking about a finite group of people, or things, that exhibit or have a chance of exhibiting a characteristic, or characteristics, that you are trying to describe and not the world population. In virtually all cases, a population is too large to work with so we take samples analyze those samples and make predictions about a “population” on the basis of the samples taken. For example, ammunition manufacturers will select a small lot of shell casings, measure them for length, wall thickness, primer pocket and from that sample they make a prediction about the population of shell casings.

However, samples are not perfect; this is particularly true in the case of diseases. People, because of fear, shame or ignorance will deliberately provide researchers with false information. So, if you have small, bad or poorly selected samples you will have errors in your analysis of the “population.” The size of samples and methods used to obtain a sample of the “population” are critically important in describing the “population.” As a result, when we say there is a .8 (80%) chance of coming down with the disease you have to ask  what is the confidence interval. If someone says that you have a .8 chance of being infected but the confidence interval of that statistic is 60, there’s a lot of room for error. However, if they say you have a .8 chance of contracting the disease with a confidence interval of 93, now you have something to really worry about.

The moral of the story is this. Never accept a statistic without understanding how the sampling was done and never accept a probability as gospel without asking what is your confidence interval. When you are dealing with a disease like Ebola the outside 20%, 10% or 2% is not where you want to be, so take every precaution protecting yourself from both human contact and infectious vectors. You don’t want to be in the 2% that was infected from a mosquito or tick bite!

Ebola And Our Forces Overseas

I’m somewhat bothered by they way the media has approached the Ebola epidemic, presently, concentrated in West Africa. It’s shallow at best! They are more focused on ISIS than what truly constitutes a threat to our people and in a broader sense national security. The story being told by Rock Star Medical Analysts is incomplete in that there has been zero discussion of infectious vectors. An infections vector is epidemiological parlance for an organism i.e. insects, rodents and any other biologic capable of transmitting the disease by contact with a person. Zero discussion!

The half story has been “well you need to come in contact with a person already showing symptoms and then only with bodily fluids.” This is the partial story and there are statistical models that support that BUT it’s the other 50% of the story that you need to be aware of, especially you boys are girls operating in the lush garden spots around the world.

I want you to read what the World Health Organization has to say about Ebola and other hemorrhagic fevers. If you’re in Africa, Indonesia, PI et. al., keep the insect repellent handy, use mosquito nets and stay covered up.

Haemorrhagic fevers

Haemorrhagic fevers are viral infections; important examples are Ebola and Marburg haemorrhagic fevers, Crimean–Congo haemorrhagic fever (CCHF), Rift Valley fever (RVF), Lassa fever, Hantavirus diseases, dengue and yellow fever.

Hantavirus diseases, dengue and yellow fever are described separately.

Cause

Viruses belonging to several families. Ebola and Marburg belong to the Filoviridae family; hantaviruses, CCHF and RVF belong to the Bunyaviridae family; Lassa fever virus belongs to the Arenaviridae family; and dengue and yellow fever belong to the Flaviviridae family.

Transmission

Viruses that cause haemorrhagic fevers are transmitted by mosquitoes (dengue, yellow fever, RVF), ticks (CCHF), rodents (Hantavirus, Lassa) or bats (Ebola, Marburg). For Ebola and Marburg viruses, humans have been infected from contact with tissues of diseased non-human primates (monkeys and apes) and other mammals, but most human infections have resulted from direct contact with the body fluids or secretions of infected patients. Humans who develop CCHF usually become infected from a tick bite but can also acquire the virus from direct contact with blood or other infected issues from livestock or from infected patients. RVF can be acquired either by mosquito bite or by direct contact with blood or tissues of infected animals (mainly sheep), including consumption of unpasteurized milk. Lassa fever virus is carried by rodents and transmitted by excreta, either as aerosols or by direct contact. Some viral haemorrhagic fevers have been amplified in hospitals by nosocomial transmission resulting from unsafe procedures, use of contaminated medical devices (including needles and syringes) and unprotected exposure to contaminated body fluids.

Nature of the disease

The haemorrhagic fevers are severe acute viral infections, usually with sudden onset of fever, malaise, headache and myalgia followed by pharyngitis, vomiting, diarrhoea, skin rash and haemorrhagic manifestations. The outcome is fatal in a high proportion of cases (more than 50%).

Geographical distribution

Diseases in this group occur widely in tropical and subtropical regions. Ebola and Marburg haemorrhagic fevers and Lassa fever occur in parts of sub-Saharan Africa. CCHF occurs in the steppe regions of central Asia and in central Europe, as well as in tropical and southern Africa. RVF occurs in Africa and has recently spread to Saudi Arabia and Yemen. (Maps can be found on WHO website.)

Risk for travellers

Very low for most travellers. However, travellers visiting rural or forest areas in countries or areas at risk may be exposed to infection.

Prophylaxis

None (except for yellow fever).

Precautions

Avoid exposure to mosquitoes and ticks and contact with rodents, non-human primates or bats. Avoid unpasteurized milk.

Christensen Arms Introduces the Carbon Fiber Tactical Force Multiplier Rifle

The Carbon Fiber and Titanium rifle uses aerospace technology to produce a rifle that’s lighter and more accurate than traditional tactical rifles.

Christensen Arms®, manufacturers of superior hunting, tactical and sport shooting firearms utilizing the latest in carbon fiber technologies, is pleased to introduce its new Tactical Force Multiplier (TFM) rifle.

“We’re gun guys at heart. It was a logical transition of resources and expertise. Our goal was to use the same carbon fiber manufacturing expertise (from the aerospace industry) to build a cutting edge tactical rifle. Our rifle is lighter and technically more advanced than your traditional tactical rifles. I am very pleased with the final product,” said Jason Christensen, the owner of Christensen Arms.

The TFM features carbon fiber technology and precision machining only found at Christensen Arms.  The three main components of the TFM (stock, barrel, and bolt action) are an advanced combination of traditional firearms features and aerospace grade componentry.

The Tier One tactical stock astonishingly weighs only 2.3 lbs.  It is manufactured in house from hand laid carbon fiber.   Shooters of all sizes will find customized fit and comfort with the embedded tactical adjustment dials for length of pull and comb height.  Perfected for the battle field, the Christensen Arms tactical stock is the perfect cross over stock for both the traditional bench-rest shooter and high country hunter.

Christensen Arms developed and manufactured the first carbon rifle barrel in the industry.  Nearly 20 years later, it remains the standard for ultra-lightweight, highly-accurate rifle barrels.  The TFM is fitted with an original carbon fiber wrapped, select match grade barrel.  Each TFM rifle is backed by ½ MOA accuracy guarantee.

Christensen Arms has now added its own billet machined bolt action to their carbon fiber rifle components.   Each stainless steel receiver is precision machined in-house to tight aerospace tolerances.  The receiver includes an integral Picatinny rail, fluted bolt with tactical knob, adjustable Timney trigger, and drop box magazine.

The TFM is available in .223 REM, .308 WIN, .300 WIN, and .338 LAPUA. Experience the unique combination of traditional firepower and the technological advancements of the aerospace industry.

AIMPOINT LAUNCHES ITS NEW MICRO T-2 SIGHT

200170_Micro_T-2

Chantilly, VA – October 1, 2014 – Aimpoint, the originator and world leader in electronic red dot sighting technology, has announced the addition of the new Micro T-2 sight to the company’s professional product line. The Micro T-2 will be available for shipment in mid-October 2014, and will be offered alongside the company’s existing Micro T-1 product.

Since its introduction in 2007, the Aimpoint Micro sight has become the worldwide standard for compact reflex sights. Law enforcement and military end users have embraced this sight for its compact size, durability, and extremely long battery life. Feedback received from professional end users identified a series of desired product enhancements that have now been added to this new product. These changes include: a new sight housing which allows the addition of front and rear protective flip covers and anti-reflective devices, additional physical protection for the sight’s adjustment turrets, and increased ruggedness for the sight’s internal electronic components.

The most important development in this new sight however, is enhanced optical performance. A newly designed front lens, incorporating an important breakthrough in reflective lens coatings, provides a noticeable increase in the clarity and performance properties of the Micro T-2. This ensures that no matter what angle or conditions the shot presents, the user is able to get on target quickly and accurately.

“Instead of merely making improvements to an existing product, our development group started with a completely new design” said Brian Lisankie, President of Aimpoint Inc. “in terms of the optical components, the Micro T-2 takes the level of performance available from a compact sight to an entirely new level. It also provides features and performance formerly available only in much larger optics.”

The Micro T-2 can be mounted on nearly any individual weapon platform, and can be used with all existing mounts that fit the Micro T-1. This sight is compatible with all generations of night vision devices. The Micro T-2 is ideal for use with Aimpoint’s wide range of accessories including the 3X Magnifier, and Concealed Engagement Unit (CEU). The Micro T-2 can operate for up to five years of constant-on use, using just one CR-2032 battery, and is waterproof to 25 meters.

The Micro T-2 will be available from Aimpoint dealers nationwide. For more information on Aimpoint or the company’s products, visit our webpage at www.aimpoint.com or contact:

STARK Introduces A New Rifle Grip

STARK

The new Stark Equipment Basic Rifle Upgrade offers all of the innovative ergonomics of Stark Pistol grips at a low cost. This new BRU retails for $19.95. The BRU has no integral trigger guard, which allows for installation on any AR rifle, including billet receivers. Shooters who prefer to retain the original trigger guard on their rifle will appreciate this easier to install, lower price grip.
As the company’s standard AR grip, the angle of the grip is more natural for your hands, closer to a 90-degree angle, allowing the shooter’s arms to stay tighter to the body with the wrist straighter. The hand stop located at the upper back strap locks the hand in at the same position and the index finger at the same angle to the trigger every time for consistent shot placement. The grip geometry of this textured, black grip is identical to all Stark Pistol grips, without the soft coating or internal storage plug, providing a low cost rifle upgrade.

  • Textured surfaces for a reliable grip
  • Resistant to weather, chemical exposure and abuse
  • Available in black only
  • Hardware included
  • Fits standard M16/M-4/AR-15 rifle platforms

Australia Moves Ahead With The Thales F90

ef88-with-ml40aus

There’s been a lot of hot air floating around ( from people claiming to have an “inside” track) that Australia was abandoning the AUG concept and looking for a new combat rifle. Well…

Thales Australia announced that the F90 has achieved Provisional Design Acceptance for Australia’s LAND 125 program, as part of its Soldier Modernization Program. The decision comes after an extensive testing period of over one million rounds fired.
The F90 is a maneuverable and compact bullpup design which moves the weapon’s center of mass closer to the shoulder and allows for a longer barrel length. Longer barrel lengths translate to increased accuracy, higher muzzle velocities with greater lethality. This is all accomplished without increasing the overall length of the weapon. The F90 includes a quick attach / detach 40 mm grenade launcher.

Speaking to the media, Kevin Wall, vice president armaments, Thales Australia, said: ‘This is a major milestone in the F90 story. Backed by over a century of military weapons experience, Thales’s Lithgow facility will now begin manufacturing F90 rifles as part of a de-risking exercise designed to smooth the transition in production from the existing in-service weapon to the F90.’

Range Demonstration Of Ohio Ordnance Works Heavy Counter Assault Rifle or HCAR.

The HCAR (Heavy Counter Assault Rifle) , developed by Ohio Ordnance Works, is a modernized Browning Automatic Rifle or B.A.R. The rifle is built on a modern chassis with integrated Picatinny rails at the 12 o’clock position, on the receiver, and forward on the handguard. The handguard can also be fitted with rail sections at 3 o’clock, 6 o’clock and 9 o’clock. The HCAR uses a hydraulic recoil buffer that tames the 30-06 recoil forces to the feel of a 5.56. The gas system has a three position regulator that includes suppressed fire. The Designers at OOW were able to achieve to an overall weight reduction of about 8 lbs. As previously mentioned, the HCAR is chambered in 30-06 and feeds from a 30 round magazine. M.S.R.P. on the rifle is $4,700 which isn’t cheap until you realize that you get a B.A.R. on steroids.

IWI Israel Launched New Folding Sights For Tavor and X95 Systems.

IWI, Ltd announced new foldable stainless steel sights for the Tavor rifle and X95 systems. The new sights will mount on the rifle’s Picatinny rail and mimic the M4 style peep hole rear and the adjustable front sight post. The new sights will be included as part of the Tavor and X95 package. As of this writing, IWI has no plans to remove the built in sights already included; thus, allowing for a backup arrangement.

We’re certainly happy to see the addition of new sights because they provide the operator with the ability to co-witness a reflex sight with his iron sights. Because they’re removable, more elaborate optics and/or targeting systems will sit nicely on the Tavor’s top rail.

I have to assume that IWI USA will be making them available to U.S. Tavor SAR customers in the not too distant future.
