The MIL-STD 1913 Picatinny rail is installed directly on the barrel, allowing the user to interchange barrels with pre-set scopes without a loss of zero. The patented caliber conversion system assures that the barrel is precisely positioned in the machined aluminum receiver, allowing for a greater area of contact, resulting in increased stability. The bolt also locks directly into the barrel breech which gives the SX-1 MTR unprecedented accuracy. The SX-1’s modularity allows the utilization of different aftermarket magazines, triggers and grips and buttstocks

Ritter & Stark barrels are guaranteed to perform for at least 2,000 to 5,000 rounds, depending upon caliber, until any noticeable degradation in accuracy occurs. Every barrel is tested at the factory and can achieve 0.5 MOA with 3-round groups or better using factory match grade ammunition.

At Ritter & Stark, the world’s top firearms engineers and designers have used the latest manufacturing processes and most technologically advanced materials to create the SX-1 MTR precision rifle.

SX-1 MTR

The SX-1 MTR can quickly and easily change calibers between a .308 Win, .300 Win Magnum and a .338 Lapua Magnum. The MIL-STD 1913 Picatinny rail is installed directly on the barrel, allowing the user to interchange barrels with pre-set scopes without a loss of zero. The bolt also locks directly into the barrel breech which gives the rifles unprecedented accuracy. The rifles are compatible with AR-15 pistol grips and come with adjustable standard 2-stage Remington 700 compatible triggers, allowing the operator to customize the grip and trigger to his preference. The buttstock is also adjustable for height and angle of cheek piece, length of pull and recoil pad.

Inside Ritter & Stark’s state of the art facility

One of the secrets to Ritter & Stark’s accuracy is its unique barrel production. No other barrel maker in the world manufacturers their barrels like Ritter & Stark. The rifling is processed in a CNC-controlled electrochemical machine. This avoids the transmission of thermal effects and mechanical stress to the material. Furthermore, this process allows Ritter & Stark to produce barrels with unique uniformity and within tolerance zones that were not possible in serial production before.

DoubleStar Presents its Superlite Gas Block

Winchester, Ky. (March 2017) – DoubleStar Corp, manufacturers of high-quality, US-made AR components, rifles and pistols, proudly presents its Superlite Gas Block.

“If you are looking to for an option for same plane sights on a lightweight but durable gas block, this is it!” said Nick Collier, director of special operations for Doublestar.

The Superlite Gas Block is machined from rugged 6061 T6 aircraft aluminum and Type III hard coat anodized to match the finish of most AR style uppers. A distinguishing feature of the Superlite block is that the included 1913 Picatinny rail matches the height of any standard mil spec flattop upper receiver. This allows the use of any same-plane flip up front sight. No more searching for a gas block height sight, which are few and far between. The Superlite Block weighs in at just 2.4 oz. It features 5 set screws to ensure a secure fit to your barrel and prevent movement. This block is long enough to cover where the front sight pins may have been in the barrel to give your build a sleek look.

MSRP of the Superlite Gas Block is $46.99. For more information on DoubleStar, visit https://star15.com.

White River’s NEW Limited Run 7-Inch Survival Knife

River Knife & Tool, Coopersville, MI, March 2017White River Knives and its Michigan manufacturing facility enjoys a well-deserved reputation for turning out near-custom knives at production prices. This family of knife makers uses only 100 percent American-made materials and labor and that includes the steels they use.

White River’s FireCraft line of survival knives (great for general purpose use, too) is currently made from S30V steel, an improved alloy with increased wear resistance (not “just” hardness, which is different). S30V alloy reduces abrasive wear, which means contact with materials that over time can abrade the blade’s fine edge such as whittling, cutting, etc. of various materials and exposure to dirt, sand, grit, bone and other elements that can erode a knife’s edge and are problematic in survival situations.

Blade marked 3V special run FireCraft 7-inch survival knife

Impact abrasion wear (from chopping) is also reduced significantly by using S30V alloy steel. What you get is a survival knife with excellent fine-edge endurance and effectiveness.

These fine detail differences in various steels make a difference in how a knife performs. Years ago, 440C was all the rage and worked very well when used in thin steels such as flexible fillet knives and surgical instruments, where no corrosion can be tolerated. However, when used in thicker profiles such as hunting knives, hatchets, and heavy-profile “military” or “survival knives,” S30V is a far superior steel.

Today’s alloys are the result of advanced chemical engineering and heat treating techniques that make a difference depending on the steel’s intended use – and that brings us to White River’s newest steel offering: 3V. Most of us mere humans cannot tell the difference between S30V and 3V steels, but here it is: 3V has 0.65 percent less carbon than S30V, 0.7 percent less molybdenum, and 1.25 percent less vanadium, which while at super-fine chemistry levels increases impact abrasion resistance (not actual breaking or chipping but actual abrasion) to hard chopping.

While this is really splitting hairs (pun intended), some folks who are seriously into knife technology asked White River to make a special run of the 7-inch FireCraft knives in 3V steel. Their reasoning (and it is correct at the super-expert level) is that the 7-inch knife FireCraft is large enough to be used for heavier chopping than the 5- and 6-inch models of the same knife, so the added abrasion resistance is worth the small trade-off in slicing efficiency.

White River agreed to the request of these technically inclined customers and is now making a limited run of 3V marked-knives in the 7-inch length. When available, these knives can be found in the Custom Shop section of the White River website www.whiteriverknives.com.

Shell Shock Technologies’ NAS3 Casings Used in Warhorse Firearms of the Rockies’ New Ammo Line

Warhorse Firearms of the Rockies debuts its line of private-label ammunition featuring Shell Shock casings.

Westport, Conn. (March 2017) – Shell Shock Technologies, LLC., an early stage technology and manufacturing company focused on developing innovative case technologies for the ammunition industry, announces that Warhorse Firearms of the Rockies has launched a line of private-label 9mm ammunition featuring Shell Shock’s revolutionary NAS3 casings.

Warhorse Firearms’ new 9mm round starts with a Shell Shock NAS3 case combined with the lightweight, lead-free Zuerillium Alloy bullets fromAdvanced Ballistics Concepts. Zuerillium Alloy, or “Green Lead,” is a blend of zinc, copper and other alloys, similar to the U.S. penny, that have been treated with a proprietary heat treating process to ensure top performance.  These new bullets are seven times less abrasive than copper or copper jacketed projectiles, are non-toxic and 100 percent recyclable.

“We’re delighted to partner with Warhorse Firearms of the Rockies. They are a unique full-service firearms and accessories retailer offering a variety of products designed to enhance the firearm lifestyle. We are proud to have our casings be part of the debut of their premium, private-label ammunition,” said Craig Knight, CEO of Shell Shock Technologies.

Warhorse Firearms of the Rockies opened their doors in late 2010, under the name Grand Prix Guns. Unique from the start, Warhorse Firearms started above the original Indian Motorcycle dealership in Colorado where it is still located today. In 2014 the company got new owners and a new name, but still the same helpful staff.

Warhorse Firearms’ private-label ammunition is currently available in 9mm Luger. Additional calibers and personal protection rounds available soon.

Shell Shock’s NAS3 9mm cases are 50 percent lighter than brass cases, offer greater lubricity and will not abrade, clog, foul, wear-out or damage breach and ejector mechanisms. The cases offer greater corrosion resistance, tensile strength (2x stronger) and elasticity than brass. NAS3cases will not split, chip, crack or grow (stretch) and are fully-reloadable (using S3 Reload dies) and can be reloaded many more times than brass cases. NAS3 cases have been tested successfully by customers to pressures over 70k psi. NAS3 cases can be picked up with a magnet. The head can be colored for branding purposes and easy load identification.

NAS3 is “Best in Class” for maintaining consistent velocity between rounds. In an independent test performed by H.P. White Laboratory (a major munitions testing facility), rounds fired using NAS3 cases achieved a velocity standard deviation of 0.093 FPS (124 grain FMJ bullet, 4.2 grains Titegroup powder, 10 rounds, extreme variation 3fps).

SUREFIRE REINTRODUCES THE CLASSIC AVIATOR HANDHELD

The ultra-compact, dual-output Aviator reinvents a classic SureFire design to provide a primary white LED and secondary colored LED in one sealed head, both focused into a useful beam with ample reach and surround light by a proprietary Total Internal Reflection (TIR) lens. Pull and twist Aviator’s self-locking selector ring to set it to white or colored light, no filter required-there’s even a system-disable setting to prevent accidental activation. The primary LED generates 250 lumens of smooth, intense white light on high and a user-friendly 5 lumens on low. Just press or click the shrouded tailcap switch to activate low output of the selected spectrum at momentary- or constant-on; immediately repeat to activate high output. There are four separate models to choose from, each sporting a different colored secondary LED to help preserve eye fatigue and help get the job done the following ways:

  • Amber improves contrast and does not degrade scotopic or night adapted vision.
  • Blue more clearly defines shapes in the outdoors and helps identify blood and hydraulic fluid.
  • Red improves contrast and aids in reading red-light-readable topographic maps.
  • Yellow-Green is complimentary to the color spectrum used in most cockpits.

A lightweight, rugged Mil-Spec hard-anodized aluminum body, gaskets, and O-ring seals protect against the elements, while a sturdy stainless steel clip keeps this indispensible little light securely stowed in your pocket, pack, or-as its aeronautical name suggests-flight bag.

  • Features

    • Virtually indestructible white-light and colored LEDs regulated to maximize output and runtime
    • Two output levels—high for maximum light, low for extended runtime
    • TIR lens shapes white or colored light into focused beam with ample reach and surround light for close- to medium-range applications

ARE THE PRESIDENT’s ALLEGATION OF A WIRETAPS UNREASONABLE

It’s Friday and time for our weekly shoot the shit. Like many Americans, I was glued to the T.V. during Monday’s House Intelligence Committee testimony by NSA’s Director Admiral Rogers and FBI Director James Comey. Before plunging into this week’s topic, I want to thank the members of Congress who focused on the real issues, which are the unauthorized disclosure of classified information and an assessment of Russian cyber activities against the United States of America and its various organizations. What impressed me as shallow, partisan and uninformed was the  suggestions that Donald Trump’s allegation of wiretaps are lies. So, without further a do, we proceed.

When we hear the term wiretap we immediately think of government wiretaps that we’ve come to know as CALEA or FISA authorized wiretaps. Whether President Trump, in his tweets, meant government wiretaps is not clear but allegations that he’s lied to Americans is premature and irresponsible. Here’s my reason why.

Government wiretaps are technically elaborate and generally conducted at the carrier’s serving central office, be that land line or wireless service. With current technology, these wiretaps are fully computerized and undetectable by the target. However, there are other forms of wiretaps which are generally unauthorized  and illegal. Is this shoot the shit topic I’d like to show you how an unauthorized wiretap could be effected. It is but one several ways. What is useful about this method is its ease of application and the fact that it does not require access to the targets home or office. So, here we go…

wiretapA telephone requires two wires to operate, they’re referred to as tip and ring. When a phone goes off-hook, a tip and ring closure occurs allowing current to flow through the phone and subsequently carries the voice components of a phone conversation. A wire tap can be accomplished by bridging (installing in parallel) a monitoring device anywhere along the tip and ring wires. Other monitoring devices require that the monitoring device be installed in series with the phone. In all cases, access to the phone being tapped is unnecessary as long as the perpetrator has access to any of the serving wiring closets.

In multistory buildings, like the Trump Tower, there are several wiring closets, probably two or more on each floor. A building will generally have one large wiring closet at the point of entry, this is were the local phone service provider cables enters the building, this closet may also be know as the point of demarcation. In large installations, they look like the picture below.

     pic02

Image result for wired punchdown blockEach pair of color coded wires represent a telephone line belonging to a phone subscriber. Running wires from the point of demarcation to individual offices or dwellings would be insane and impossible to efficiently maintain. So, in order to have a serviceable and manageable system, bundles of wires are routed via building risers to intermediate wiring closet(s) located on each floor as illustrated below. These intermediate wiring closets contain connecting points known as punch down blocks. A subscriber’s phone wires terminate on a punch down block where they connect to the phone company’s service.  It’s also a convenient point where an eavesdropping device can easily be attached.

    Cable Distribution

Now that you have a mental image of a building’s telephone wiring, we can talk about how the a tap is achieved.

_LHANSETTaps can be very simple like a cable installer or phone company technician snooping around using a lineman’s test set like the one shown on the right. The technician simply connects his device across the tip and ring wires, at the punch down block, then selects bridge or monitor mode on his headset and listens to your conversation. But who the hell is going to sit in a wiring closet for any length of time?

Image result for FM phone line bugsThe more efficient wire tap occurs using a device that attaches in series with the phone line and uses an FM signal to transmit a conversation to someone tuned to the transmitter frequency. The device itself is relatively small like the one shown on the left. These devices are all commercially available requiring no licensing. Professional grade equipment is smaller and more easily disguised in a wiring closet.

These types of wiretaps are detectable by check line capacitance, sweeping the line or methods designed to detect r.f. transmission. However, it is highly unlikely that a target would know that the a tap is in place and would need a security services company to check the line. Wire closet taps can be removed without leaving a trace.

Who can effect a wire tap? Anyone with access to the wiring closet serving the targets phone. For example, a compromised or politically motivated phone company installer or service technician, a  compromised or politically motivated in-house cabling contractor or just about anyone else you could think of.  Illegal taps can’t be used for criminal prosecutions, but they could provide potentially damaging information  usable against a candidate during an election. The bottom line is simply this. If you can gain access to a wiring closet, like the ones I’ve mentioned, you can effect a tap with very little effort.

The moral of the story is – keep all wiring closets locked, ensure that all service personnel accessing wiring closets have picture identification, are required to login and logout, and that all access by these individuals is logged electronically or by building security personnel. Finally, never give out master keys to wiring closets or disclose access codes to building wiring closets.

I have utter and complete confidence in the NSA and FBI and I believe these agencies did not wiretap Candidate Donald J Trump; however, it’s extraordinarily naive to believe that only government agencies can install wiretaps. In my opinion, accusing The President of making false statements regarding wiretaps ignores the possibility of unofficial and illegal wiretaps. Food for thought!

We hope you’ve found our shoot the shit interesting and informative. As with all shoot the shit topics anything goes. Have a great weekend and enjoy some quality time with your buds and family!

Revision Awarded U.S. Army Next-Generation ACH Helmet Contract

Essex Junction, Vermont (March 21, 2017)Revision Military, the world leader in integrated head systems, has been awarded the U.S. Army’s Advanced Combat Helmet Generation II (ACH GEN II) helmet contract. This five-year indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity (IDIQ) helmet contract (W91CRB-17-D-0008), awarded on a full and open competition basis to Revision, has a maximum value of $98,111,803 and estimated completion date of March 6, 2022. Revision’s ACH helmet solution is up to 24 percent lighter than the legacy ACH helmet system and this contract represents the first large-scale, significant advancement in ACH technology in 15 years.

Since last contracted by the U.S. Army in 2012-when Revision delivered a total of 180,000 ACH helmets-Revision has invested millions of dollars in new manufacturing equipment and processes, research into the characterization and optimization of advanced ballistic materials, and in the building of a world-class team of scientists and engineers in order to evolve the Company’s capabilities. Additionally, since 2013, Revision’s Newport, Vermont facility-where helmets for this contract will be manufactured-has expanded by 16,000 sq. ft., and the number of employees that work at this facility has more than doubled. As a result of these ongoing investments, and the development of composite materials technological expertise, Revision was able to exceed the weight reduction requirements stipulated in the Army’s solicitation by a sizable margin: The ACH Gen II solicitation required a minimum 15 percent weight reduction compared to the current ACH helmet; Revision’s solution offers up to 24 percent weight reduction over the legacy ACH design, pushing the envelope of attainable weight reduction while maintaining superior ballistic protection.

Revision is dedicated to re-envisioning military head systems with integrated technologies that feature new, cutting edge materials, in a variety of designs and configurations, to exceed all customer requirements.  With extensive knowledge of ballistics, electronics, optics, power, and other innovative technologies, Revision is a creative solutions provider, capable of designing and developing custom head protection solutions to meet the changing needs of global militaries.

“With this solicitation, PEO Soldier challenged the helmet industry, raising the technology bar substantially. Revision answered in a big way, dedicating significant resources to set a new standard for lightweight helmet design and performance,” said Jonathan Blanshay, CEO. “Revision has been a proud U.S. Army supplier since 2005, and our investment in this program epitomizes Revision’s unwavering dedication to forward-thinking head systems technology and manufacturing. In the years since Revision was last contracted by the U.S. Army, we’ve become a much stronger company and head systems technology innovator, securing helmet contracts around the world-including for the British Army’s VIRTUS program-and emerging as the vanguard of the U.S. helmet industry. We’re excited to provide this cutting-edge technology to troops in the field who will benefit greatly from the improved performance and significantly lower weight of this next-generation head system. In short, Revision has fully modernized the traditional ACH helmet, bringing this crucial equipment up to speed with the fast pace of modern warfare.”

“This was an intense competition that draws on the reliability and skill of Revision Military’s workforce in Vermont,” said Senator Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.).  “The quality of these helmets will protect soldiers from ballistic impacts, while also making them more comfortable with their up to 24% lighter build. Like all Vermonters, I am incredibly proud of the men and women at Revision Military Newport for their hard work and dedication, both of which greatly contributed to Revision being selected for this contract. In past visits to the facility, I have seen firsthand the commitment these employees have to their trade, a commitment depended on by the men and women of our Armed Forces.”

Over Revision’s history, the Company has delivered 1.1 million helmets to the U.S. military, with an additional 300,000 helmets internationally. Across all of these program deliveries, Revision has never received a single warranty claim for product malfunction or defect, has never had to recall a single faulty product, and has never failed a single Lot Acceptance or First Article test. Revision is also the most experienced and most knowledgeable Ultra-High-Molecular-Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPE) manufacturer in the industry. With robust design and development expertise, significant investment in efficient, high-volume manufacturing, and vertical integration, Revision stands ready to meet this U.S. Army’s demand, and will use the revenue generated through this program to continue to build capabilities and advanced innovations to benefit the U.S. military for years to come.

Above: Through advanced material applications and innovative manufacturing, Revision’s ACH Gen II helmet solution offers up to 24% weight reduction as compared to the legacy ACH helmets currently fielded by the U.S. Army.

LBM recognized among top ten percent of Constant Contact’s email marketers.

New Bern, N.C. (March 2017) – Laura Burgess Marketing (LBM), public relations and marketing communications for the law enforcement, tactical, military, shooting sports, boating and recreational fishing markets, has been named a 2016 All Star Award winner by Constant Contact, part of the Endurance International Group, Inc.’s(Nasdaq: EIGI) family of brands and the trusted marketing advisor to hundreds of thousands of small organizations worldwide. The annual award recognizes the most successful ten percent of Constant Contact’s email marketers, based on their significant achievements using email to engage their customer base and drive results for their organization during the prior year. LBM has previously won the All Star Award in 2010 and 2011.

LBM was founded in 2003 in Portsmouth, New Hampshire by firearms industry veteran Laura Burgess as a boutique public relations and marketing communications firm specializing in the law enforcement, tactical, military, shooting sports, recreational fishing and boating industry. Pocket Pistol Improvements by Crimson Trace

S&W M&P Bodyguard with a Crimson Trace LG-454 Laserguard(Wilsonville, OR)—Pocket pistols are popular for good reasons: most are small and easy to conceal, they can pack a punch, and they are lightweight. Many pocket pistols also incorporate the same features of larger full-sized handguns but on a much smaller scale. A big downside to most pocket pistols, however, is a lack of sights—or inadequate sights. Crimson Trace offers many pocket pistol improvements.

Being accurate with a pocket pistol is a challenge even for most experienced shooters. There is less to hold onto with smaller grips and these handguns are often difficult to control for a follow-up shot. The flat surface down the top of the barrel or slide on most pocket pistols leaves little assistance for accuracy and plenty of space for a miss. That’s where the advantages of laser sights shine brightly. The laser light downrange lets the shooter know precisely where the bullet will make impact.

Crimson Trace Carry 9 Combo with LG-469GH for Springfield XD-s with BladeTech HolsterIn fact, Crimson Trace manufactures laser sights for popular pocket pistols from these manufacturers: Beretta, Bersa, Glock, Kahr Arms, Kimber, Remington, Ruger, Sig Sauer, Smith & Wesson, Taurus and others. A top pocket pistol with a laser sight to consider for purchase could be Smith & Wesson’s M&P® Bodyguard® 380 where the Crimson Trace laser sight is built into the pistol’s frame.

Most Crimson Trace products to equip pocket pistols are found in the company’s Lasergrips and Laserguard® series of laser sights. These products are shipped with batteries, adjustment tools and easy-to-read owner manuals. All Crimson Trace laser sights can be easily installed without special gunsmithing skills or tools.

HOGUE INC ANNOUNCES POLYMER 15 DEGREE VERTICAL GRIPS FOR AR15 / M16

    image

Henderson, NV – Hogue Inc. is proud to announce the newest tactical advantage for AR-15 and M16 shooters. Structurally crafted to be the lightest grip of its type, and ergonomically engineered to have the most comfortable fit, the Hogue AR-15/M16 polymer 15 degree vertical grip is the obvious choice for any tactical rifle aficionado.

Precisely engineered by Hogue’s expert designers, this AR-15 / M16 grip offers a natural grasp. “When designing this product, ergonomics was the number one priority; it simply had to feel right. And of course, aesthetics was also a main concern; it had to look good too,” said grip designer and Hogue co-owner Jim Bruhns. In terms of performance, this grip is ideal for any AR-15 / M16 user. “It’s for military, for custom builders, for anyone really! It simply feels comfortable for guys who just want to shoot.”

Compared to the standard 30 degree angle grips for AR-15 / M16, the 15 degree angle allows for a more natural hand position in close quarter situations. The stacking formation often used by the military in close quarter combat requires the rifle to be square with the chest and for the elbows to be tight to the body, forcing the hand into a sharper angle. The Hogue vertical grip naturally meets the hand exactly in the proper position, making grip comfort effortless for the shooter.

Made from durable lightweight polymer that was strategically designed with a hollow center for maximum weight efficiency, the grip leads the lightest weight class on the market weighing in at a mere 1.5 ounces. The surface incorporates Hogue’s Cobblestone texture which provides an efficient non-slip, non-irritating stippling pattern. Additionally, there is a recessed dish behind the trigger which heightens comfort and creates a smooth transition for the finger to the trigger. In anticipation of some builders’ needs, a clearance was also added in the top of the grip allowing for an upper receiver tensioning screw.

Ultimately, this grip provides optimum comfort and safety when handling AR-15 pistols, and will also fit any other firearm that uses standard AR-15 / M16 grips. They are made in the USA, available in Black, OD Green and Flat Dark Earth with an MSRP of $19.95.

Hogue grips are manufactured in their family-owned and operated facilities under the direct supervision of the Hogue family. Hogue, Inc. supports local dealers and encourages customers to purchase Hogue products locally. For more information please call Hogue directly at 1-800-438-4747 or visit http://www.hogueinc.com to find a Hogue dealer near you.

    UNDERSTANDING MERCHANDIZING

    Image result for Merchandising

I hope everyone is doing well, especially after the winter storms that rolled in this week. In one form or another, we made it through the week and it’s time for our weekly shoot the shit. We talk about guns and gear during the week, but on Friday we generally have a shoot the shit topic that may be totally unrelated. Shoot the shit rules are simple, you don’t need to know what you’re talking about so you can make any unsupported comment, express yourself with uncensored profanity, you can insult anyone you wish or change the subject at will. We have these shoot the shits because their efficacy is far superior to sitting down with a jackass who’s sole reason for studying psychology was so they could understand themselves better. In fact your chances of being reimbursed by your insurance company are better with us than with your therapist. There’s a reason for that folks!

So let’s talk about merchandizing. Have you ever wondered why store shelves are arranged the way they are. It’s done to present products and to derive an understanding of what is performing as measured by dollars in sales per square foot. Merchandise generating strong sales per square foot will have additional space allocated. Merchandise that’s underperforming will have less space, is removed  or moved to an area where dollar sales per square foot requirements are lower (like the basement, as an example). The merchandizer determines product presentation and placement.

With computerized point of sales and inventory management systems, the classic role of the merchandizer has been diminished, opening the door to the retail jackass like what you are likely to find at any Wal-Mart. Nowhere on the face of the planet will you find Coca Cola on a soft drink grocery shelf and Pepsi in the middle of the store somewhere. Looking for bathroom towels? Some are in the bath area the others are with candles, silverware or greeting cards. It probably took a Harvard graduate to come up with that mapping strategy.

So Wal-Mart here’s an idea for you. You already have customers checking themselves out, so let’s expand the self serve  concept a bit more. Install customer terminals, with speech recognition functionality, located throughout a store in sufficient numbers to be useful. The customer can walk up to the terminal; ask for what they need, using any language preference. The system can respond, in the preferred language, directing the customer to the appropriate product location. The technology is there and mature enough to be included in your capital plan.

As always, let us know what you think. Remember, anything goes! Have a great weekend stay safe and warm, and spend some quality time with friends and family.

It’s a masterpiece,” said Phil Cashin, president of MasterPiece Arms.

As with MPA’s BA Chassis, the BA CZ-455 will provide the shooter with the ability to adjust the length of pull, cheek riser position, add side Picatinny rails or a night vision bridge, as well as increase the distance from the spigot mounted bipod to the rear support. The MPA produced buttstock includes an adjustable length of pull, recoil pad with height and cant adjustment, adjustable cheek riser and an adjustable monopod. The length of pull and cheek position are locked in place via a set of screws that are embedded into the buttstock body. It provides very strong lockup of the cheek riser plate and recoil plate assembly.

The BA monopod system can also be added along with the buttstock mounted bag rider attachment. The MPA bubble level system is included as standard equipment.

Cobalt Kinetics To Release CARS (Cobalt Advantage Reloading System) In Limited "Beta" Test

ST GEORGE, Utah, March 14 – Cobalt Kinetics, a manufacturer of premium performance and precision engineered rifles, today announces plans to open their CARS (Cobalt Advantage Reloading System) platform to the public as a limited beta test through select dealers.  The highly anticipated release of the CARS is available as an upgrade package on the following Cobalt Kinetics rifle models: BAMF, Eclipse, Edge, Team, Team Stage 2.
The limited beta test will run through the end of May.  The upgraded functionality of the “beta” CARS will cost $800 as a premium option when ordering.  Additionally, Cobalt is extending continued warranty and support and any upgrades or improvements to the rifles purchased on this initial beta release.
Skylar Stewart, Vice President of Cobalt Kinetics said, “After a year of strenuous development and testing, we are ready to release the CARS functionality to select group of shooters for testing.  We are confident with the engineering and performance and want to get feedback from enthusiasts, helping us put the final polish on the system.”
The CARS rifle autonomously drops an empty magazine and loads the chamber once an ammunition supply is present. When using a CARS equipped rifle, the user is only required to pull the trigger, and introduce a fresh magazine as ammunition becomes exhausted. More time and attention can be spent on target acquisition and engagement, allowing for faster and more accurate shooting. The CARS retains the standard operation of the AR-15 platform; the bolt catch and magazine release are still present and operational.
The CARS auto-drop feature can be selectively deactivated to retain an empty magazine. CARS auto-load is always active and operational; the gun will chamber ammo from a fresh magazine once it is inserted and seated. CARS functionality works with most AR-15 magazines.
The components used in the construction of the CARS system are made from D2 and S7 tool steel and coated in nickel-Teflon.  This process produces parts that resist wearing while also reducing the need for lubrication.
CARS is in its 5th revision since inception; reflecting dozens of improvements and refinements by their engineers. The 5th revision was extensively tested, with over 15,000 rounds expended during development and was vetted by numerous experts in the industry.

    About Cobalt Kinetics

Cobalt Kinetics designs and builds firearms with bold aesthetics, cutting-edge technical innovations, state-of-the-art engineering and meticulous precision.
Cobalt Kinetics was founded because of dissatisfaction with the status quo–rows of the same black rifles on every gun shop wall across the country.  The issue with “black rifles” is that there is little differentiation in the market and very little true innovation.
Cobalt decided to change the industry by demonstrating that common functions can be upgraded through thoughtful engineering.  Functions such as the Dual Drop and Cobalt Advantage Reloading System.  Also, platform flaws, such as muzzle rise, can be mitigated not by use of a muzzle compensator but by innovating changes to the buffer system. These changes can be done while still creating a rifle that maintains both precision, durability and aesthetics. Cobalt is driven to create firearms that are more effective, more reliable and more rewarding for the owner.

Practical Thermal Imaging for Hunters: Part Two

WILSONVILLE, Ore. (March 14, 2017) – Thermal-imaging technology is no longer just for the military and law enforcement communities. These rapidly evolving electronics are becoming smaller, lighter, less expensive and, therefore, more accessible and valuable to hunters than ever before.

Thermal imaging works by detecting minute differences in the heat of both live and inert objects, amplifying these differences and projecting them onto a small screen inside a hand-held device or weapon sight. In addition to daytime and nighttime game scouting, tracking and recovery, thermal-imaging optics are the ideal spotting and targeting systems for those who hunt predators and nuisance species after dark. A handheld thermal monocular can also greatly increase any hunter’s safety by improving his or her situational awareness.

Former NFL quarterback and hunting enthusiast, Mike Pawlawski, is a both a proponent and an early-adopter of thermal technology to enrich his experiences afield. Host of the popular Gridiron Outdoors TV show on Outdoor Channel, Pawlawski is also a pro staff member for FLIR Systems Inc., the worldwide leader in their namesake technology: Forward Looking Infrared (FLIR). “Thermal imaging opens up a whole new phase of hunting,” says Pawlawski. “Now, not only can you scout, hunt and be better equipped to recover game day or night, you’re also safer walking around. It’s a complete game changer.”

Predator Hunting and Nuisance Species Control

While regulations governing nighttime hunting for predators like coyotes and nuisance animals like hogs vary from state-to-state, many states allow nighttime hunting for these species. And in jurisdictions where it’s allowed, thermal represents the ultimate spotting and targeting technology, because it doesn’t require any ambient light.

“FLIR’s pocket-sized family of Scout thermal-imaging monoculars and ThermoSight R-Series riflescopes are perfectly suited to hunting hogs and predators at night,” says Pawlawski, who points out that nighttime hunting, where legal, opens up new opportunities for many hunters to get their field time. “Think about the guy or gal working 9-5; they can come home from work, spend time with their family and still go predator or hog hunting after dinner. There is nothing like an indoor basketball court or lighted driving range for hunters, so thermal solves that problem, while making hunting after dark a lot more effective and fun.”

As previously stated, thermal-imaging technology continues to improve each year. FLIR’s newest scopes and handheld thermal imagers for hunters utilize the company’s all-new Boson Camera Core, a 12 micron, uncooled longwave camera that enhances video analytics and image processing, enabling FLIR to create smaller, lighter optics without compromising image performance or range.
These rugged and versatile optics combine superior image performance and range with fun and innovative features like internal video/image recording and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity. Prices are continuing to drop as well. “With Scout handhelds starting below $600 and ThermoSight R scopes starting below $3,500, top-quality FLIR thermal-imaging optics are now available to more hunters than ever before,” says Pawlawski.

Thermal-imaging optics maximize a hunter’s situational awareness in any lighting conditions, but are especially helpful after dark, aiding in way finding and helping to avoid bumping game or surprising dangerous animals at close range. Image courtesy of www.gridironoutdoors.com.

In addition to the company’s wide line of thermal scopes and handhelds, FLIR’s new line of ThermoSight C-Series Clip On sights represent another exciting option for hog and predator hunters. “FLIR’s ThermoSight C-Series Clip On weapon sites mount in front of standard daylight optics,” explains Pawlawski, who emphasizes the practical flexibility such a set-up provides. “It’s the perfect thermal solution for hunters who have already made an investment in a quality daytime scope,” he says. “The system doesn’t change cheek weld, trigger reach or zero, and hunters can continue to use the ballistic reticle in their daytime scope. They can go full thermal at any time with the simple flip of a switch.” FLIR’s newest ThermoSight C-Series Clip Ons start below $2,200 MSRP.

    Situational Awareness

Another useful application of FLIR technology is finding people that you may or may not want in your immediate area. On public lands especially, many hunters have had the uncomfortable experience of bumping into another hunter. While such a situation can have negative impacts on one’s hunt, it can also be incredibly dangerous. Thermal imaging technology makes it easy to scan an area to quickly determine if any other hunters are present.

“It’s easy to get out the FLIR and check your surroundings from a high spot or your treestand,” Pawlawski explains.  “Whether elk hunting out West or turkey hunting anywhere, FLIR helps hunters detect and avoid other hunters before a situation becomes dangerous – especially on public lands.”

With an MSRP below $600, FLIR’s pocket-sized Scout TK thermal vision monocular allows users to detect wildlife and people over 100 yards away in any lighting conditions, including total darkness. Scout TK also captures still images and video clips. www.flir.com/ots.

But other hunters aren’t the only threats in the woods. Becoming disoriented in the dark or surprising a large predator are additional possibilities that can have grave consequences. “Everything looks different at night,” says Pawlawski, who’s keen on the use of thermal for way finding after dark. “It’s easy to pop a FLIR Scout to your eye and say oh, there’s my road, there’s my fence line, or here’s where we’re going,” he says. “I also use it to avoid bumping game while traveling to and from my stand or hunting site in the dark. It’s simple to navigate with FLIR in the dark without spooking game, and the technology is also very useful for avoiding unexpected run-ins with dangerous predators. There’s no other piece of equipment I take afield that makes me feel safer or provides more peace of mind than my FLIR,” Pawlawski concludes.

    Final Advice

The laws regarding the use and possession of thermal-imaging devices while hunting vary by state, so a prudent hunter will double-check and make sure their intended uses of the technology comply with local regulations. Our expert provides additional advice: “Read the manual!”

“In addition to knowing your state’s laws, learn the technology before you get into the field with it,” Pawlawski says. “Make a few test runs in the backyard before you go out… just like learning your gun before taking a shot, understanding your thermal device’s various settings and features will provide a richer experience in the field.”

FLIR’s ThermoSight R-Series riflescopes are the ultimate targeting systems for hunting pigs and predators at night. www.flir.com/ots.
