Wishing You All A Happy 4th of July Celebration !

4th-of-July-2017

We’d like to take this opportunity to wish all of our readers and friends a Happy 4th of July. This is a particularly meaningful and important Independence Day. We are living in times where a marginal segment of society views patriotism, national pride and a strong national identity as an impediment to a global community. This concept, along with the need for ratings, is behind the crass and embarrassing attacks on our President and his family. We have spoken about this issue on several occasions and continue to advance the concept that national pride, strong national identity and a global community and commerce are not mutually exclusive.

We’ll close by wishing President Donald J. Trump and his lovely family a Safe and Happy Independence Day Celebration!

ShellTech, Announces Plant Opening in Kentucky

ShellTech, a new subsidiary of Shell Shock Technologies, will open high-volume ammunition casings plant, creating 50 new jobs, in Eubank, Kentucky, manufacturing Shell Shock’s NAS3 cases.

Image result for shell shock technologies logoWestport, Conn. (June 2017) – Shell Shock Technologies, LLC., an early stage technology and manufacturing company focused on developing innovative case technologies for the ammunition industry, is pleased to announce the launch of its newly formed high-volume manufacturing subsidiary, ShellTech. The new manufacturing plant will open in Pulaski County in Eubank, Kentucky, focusing on the manufacture of Shell Shock Technologies’ NAS3 cases. With an investment of approximately $3.2 million, ShellTech aims to create 50 new full-time jobs within Pulaski County.

ShellTech will assemble NAS3 cases under a long-term contract from its parent company. The 14,000-square foot facility was previously used for the contract-manufacturing and loading of all SIG SAUER ammunition. ShellTech will begin by assembling Shell Shock Technologies’ popular 9mm cases, but will soon add 5.56 mm, .308, .45 ACP, 380 and .40 S&W cases, along with an assortment of other popular pistol and rifle calibers.

“We are proud to announce the creation of our subsidiary ShellTech; this new high-volume manufacturing operation will significantly accelerate the rollout of Shell Shock’s NAS3 case technology. We are especially happy to be opening this plant in Pulaski County and can’t thank the county, the Commonwealth of Kentucky or the various regional and local development agencies enough for helping to make this plant a reality,” commented Craig Knight, president and CEO of Shell Shock Technologies and ShellTech.

The Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority (KEDFA) has preliminarily approved ShellTech for tax incentives of up to $800,000 through the Kentucky Business Investment program, which is intended to spur investment and job growth within the community. In addition, ShellTech can receive resources, such as no-cost recruitment and job placement services, reduced-cost customized training and job training incentives, through the Kentucky Skills Network.

About Shell Shocks NAS3 Cases:

Shell Shock’s NAS3 9mm cases are 50 percent lighter than brass cases, offer greater lubricity and will not abrade, clog, foul, wear-out or damage breach and ejector mechanisms. The cases offer greater corrosion resistance, tensile strength (2x stronger) and elasticity than brass. NAS3 cases will not split, chip, crack or grow (stretch) and are fully reloadable (using S3 Reload dies) and can be reloaded many more times than brass cases. NAS3 cases have been tested successfully by customers to pressures over 70k psi. NAS3 cases can be picked up with a magnet. The head can be colored for branding purposes and easy load identification.

NAS3 is “Best in Class” for maintaining consistent velocity between rounds. In an independent test performed by H.P. White Laboratory (a major munitions testing facility), rounds fired using NAS3 cases achieved a velocity standard deviation of 0.093 FPS (124-grain FMJ bullet, 4.2 grains Titegroup powder, 10 rounds, extreme variation 3fps).

Team USA & Proof Research Win Gold at 2017 IPSC Rifle World Shoot

Kubinka, Russia – USPSA rifle shooters had a dominant performance at the 2017 IPSC Rifle World Shoot, and PROOF Research-the Montana- and science-based company world renowned for its lightweight, high-performance rifle barrels-played a large part in their success. Team USA secured two team gold medals and five individual medals: three gold, one silver, and one bronze. Of the 16 shooters comprising Team USA, seven of them competed with PROOF Research barrels, including several winners.

“We’re proud to have supported these competitors with lightweight, accurate barrels that give them a competitive edge,” said PROOF CEO Larry Murphy. “These shooters are some of the best in the world, and they represented their country, and certainly PROOF Research, very well.”

The Men’s Senior Team in the OS Division won gold, with three of the four team members-Barry Dueck, Mike Voigt, and Jeffrey Cramblit-shooting PROOF barrels.  The US women also took gold in the Ladies Team OS Division, with Lena Miculek and Maggie Reese both shooting barrels manufactured by PROOF. Two of the competitors using PROOF barrels also medaled in individual competition: a gold for Lena Miculek and a bronze for Jeff Cramblit. Barry Dueck placed sixth overall against 75 other senior shooters in the OS Division, and Lena Miculek won the Shoot-off in her category.

The match was the first-ever rifle world championship held in Russia and included 30 courses of fire ranging from 5 to 320 yards with technically demanding shots.

First-ever helicopter-based firing of High Energy Laser

MCKINNEY, Texas, June 26, 2017 — Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN) and the U.S. Army Apache Program Management Office, in collaboration with U.S. Special Operations Command, recently completed a successful flight test of a high energy laser system onboard an Apache AH-64 at White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico. The demonstration marks the first time that a fully integrated laser system successfully engaged and fired on a target from a rotary-wing aircraft over a wide variety of flight regimes, altitudes and air speeds.

Photo courtesy of the U.S. Army

The test achieved all primary and secondary goals, providing solid experimental evidence for the feasibility of high resolution, multi-band targeting sensor performance and beam propagation supportive of High Energy Laser capability for the rotary-wing attack mission. Additionally, the system performed as expected while tracking and directing energy on a number of targets. The design of future HEL systems will be shaped by the data collected on the impact of vibration, dust and rotor downwash on HEL beam control and steering.

“Our goal is to pull the future forward,” said Art Morrish, vice president of Advanced Concept and Technologies for Raytheon Space and Airborne Systems. “This data collection shows we’re on the right track. By combining combat proven sensors, like the MTS, with multiple laser technologies, we can bring this capability to the battlefield sooner rather than later.”

In this test Raytheon coupled a variant of the Multi-Spectral Targeting System, an advanced electro-optical infrared sensor, with a laser. The MTS provided targeting information, situational awareness and beam control.

Canadian Sniper in Iraq Makes Longest Confirmed Kill Shot In Military History

Image result for Snipers

It’s Friday and time for our weekly shoot the shit topic. This is a time when readers can make unsupported comments, use uncensored profanity, insult anyone you wish or change the subject altogether. All this you can do free of charge rather than paying someone who studied psychology just so they could understand themselves.

You’ve all undoubtedly heard about the Canadian sniper, from their Joint Task Force 2 (JTF2) special forces unit,  breaking the world’s record for the longest recorded shot. In case you haven’t,  this soldier engaged an ISIS target at a range of 3450 (or there about) meters killing the insurgent and scattering the rest of his buddies who were setting up an ambush against an unsuspecting Iraqi unit.

The only thing that we know for sure is that the Canadian used a McMillan TAC-50, a 50BMG bolt action rifle. To provide you with a feel for what a feat this was we ran through some of the ballistics involved.

Assumptions we made are as follows:

  1. Ambient temperature 116F / humidity at 11% / no wind (at least that he knew of)
  2. Atmospheric pressure (station pressure) 30.10
  3. 29 inch barrel with a 1:15 riffling
  4. Ammunition XM33 660gr projectile with a muzzle velocity of 2910 fps
  5. Zeroed his rifle at 300 meters
  6. Had to account for spin drift ( the drift imparted to the projectile by the rifling once it leaves the confines of the barrel) and Coriolis effect ( the effect that the earth’s rotation has)

Here’s what he had to do

  • Elevate  and hold approximately 16203 centimeters or 532 feet above the target. (The Canadian sniper had to use all of the data listed in 1-6 to arrive at this value!)

Once the bullet left the rifle it took about 7 seconds for it to get there (imagine a guy in a combat area of operation exposing himself and standing still for 7 seconds! – God wanted this guy dead!)

Once the shot is fired, drag reduces the bullet’s speed along its path. Bullets are most stable when they are supersonic i.e. 1100 feet per second or more. This bullet was transonic and arrived at the target doing 1027 feet per second. When a bullet is transonic, it looses stability and a sparrow  in flight breaking wind will deflect it.

All in all, this was one hell of a shot with an ounce or two of divine intervention! Well done Canada!

Have a great weekend readers! Be safe, get to the range and spend some quality time with your buds and family.

By the way, if you decide to have a Piroshky while you’re out and about, the Washington Post, N.Y. Times or CNN may brand you a Russian collaborator! Couldn’t pass that up!

Have a good one

DNA Phenotyping to Provide Valuable New Information for Nonprofit’s ‘Help ID Me’ Program

ee7fd195-0c2b-4129-86b7-5e0438686bb5Alexandria, Va. (June 27, 2017) – The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children®(NCMEC) announced today a partnership with Parabon® NanoLabs (Parabon) to employ the company’s Snapshot™ DNA Phenotyping service to assist with efforts to identify unknown deceased children.  When the remains of an unknown child are found, NCMEC will use Snapshot’s accurate predictions of eye, hair and skin color, facial morphology and ancestry to scientifically enhance its 3D facial reconstructions – images that show the public how the child would have appeared before they died.

“Many of these children have families who have been searching for them and wondering what happened for years or even decades,” said Carol Schweitzer, a supervisor for NCMEC’s missing children division who oversees cases involving unidentified children. “Our goal is to help give them their name back, and give their family some resolution. An accurate facial reconstruction is critical.”

Until now, forensic artists produced facial reconstructions based only on the features apparent in the skeletal remains. The images presented to the public appeared entirely in gray tones to limit artistic license and focus on the confirmed physical characteristics.

“Our forensic artists tell us they know they have finished a reconstruction when they see a face staring back at them,” said Schweitzer. “Someone knows who these children are, and with Parabon’s help, we can show them a face they will hopefully recognize.”

Parabon’s CEO, Dr. Steven Armentrout, said his company is proud to provide phenotyping services to NCMEC, “It’s an honor for our Snapshot division to assist such a world-class team and serve such a worthy cause.”

NCMEC has helped provide over 100 identifications and is currently assisting with more than 725 cases of unidentified deceased children.  Other resources that NCMEC provides in cases related to unidentified deceased children include national missing person searches, analytical support, and advanced forensic testing. Sneak Preview: Streamlight Protac Rail Mount HL-X

20170626_155545

The Streamlight Protac lights have enjoyed tremendous popularity since their introduction. Then Streamlight added a rail mount feature, and in so doing, the company succeeded in delivering all of the Protac features in a weapon mounted form factor; eliminating the need to buy mounting hardware. In 2017, Streamlight improved on the already successful  Protac Rail Mount light by boosting illumination to 1000 lumens, adding dual-fuel capabilities along with other features.

I’ll eliminate the suspense by saying that Streamlight’s Protac Rail Mount HL-X is another hit from a company that has redefined “bang for the buck.” Catch my review in July for a thorough look at an amazing weapon mounted high performance light.

Side Effects and Subliminal Conditioning

Image result for pharmaceutical side effects

It’s Friday and time for our weekly (most of the time) shoot the shit. There is so much poop going around that it’s hard to pick just one thing. However, since this is a shoot the shit, there are no rules to lock us into just one topic.

Readers, have you noticed the pathetic state of the pharmaceutical industry? Where in the world does a company introduce and advertise acne medication where the side effects include sexual dysfunction, internal bleeding, gastro-intestinal blockage, depression and feelings of suicide, etc.!

Think about it, you’re constipated so you take a pill but instead of taking a dump you blow your brains out! Feeling a bit of menstrual discomfort, take my product but you could become a serial killer! WTF is this all about.

So, to call attention to this issue, we’ve been thinking of holding a contest where we invite readers to make up a side effect and submit it. The contest could run through say Thanksgiving. The 1st, 2nd and 3rd place submission will win a tactical prize. This is still in the brainstorming phase but it’s looking better every damned day.

This next topic will really get your goat, it does us because it’s insidious! The liberal media spearheaded by the domestic CNN cadre has been conditioning their audience since the Nov elections. Have you noticed how they “report” that “Democrats do well in those areas where there are highly educated people,” a statement that was again floated during the Georgia 06 elections. What they’re really saying is that educated people vote for Democrats with the corresponding implication being that uneducated people vote Republican. This is a vulgar and deliberate misrepresentation designed to damage the Republican brand.

This is how Democrats CNN, MSNBC, et all would like voters to see Republicans…

If the GOP learned nothing from the 2016 elections, one thing they should have picked up on from Donald J Trump is the importance of branding. POTUS is a marketing genius; not only does he know how to sell but he’s a master brander. DJT knows how to create a brand and how to build value, the GOP does not. They now have an opportunity to do so, but I’m afraid they may be asleep at the wheel and miss this opportunity.

So we are going to ask you for a little favor, when you chat with your GOP officials, let them know that you’re neither deplorable or uneducated. Insist they work to improve the Republican Brand – so much for our soapbox.

Have a great weekend! We’re drying out from some torrential downpours but still looking forward to a little down time. We love hearing from you!

Comp-Tac Victory Gear, LLC, Houston, TX, June 2017 – Comp-Tac’s most versatile holster comes in a new color – but more about that later.

This unique, low-friction, pancake-style Kydex holster can be worn inside or outside the waist band. It comes standard with three sets of incredibly strong nylon belt clips that fit belts up to 1.5 inches wide (optional clips may be ordered for 1.75-inch belts).

Additional key features are ride depth adjustability to get the best draw/wear height fit. The Flatline’s tilt angle is also adjustable, from near straight up to 15 degrees forward. Uniquely for a pancake holster, the Flatline has a retention adjustment that allows you to set the firmness of firearm retention/draw. Designed for self-defense, the Flatline can also fill the competition needs for most shooters.

As with all Comp-Tac holsters, an actual, real pistol is used in manufacturing to ensure that the fit is dead on.

(Wilsonville, OR)— Crimson Trace®, recognized as America’s Top Brand of laser sights by national research firm Southwick Associates, recently played a pivotal part of The Well Armed Woman’s (TWAW) annual state conference held in Brooklyn, Michigan. Crimson Trace conducted an educational classroom session along with a hands-on range event to help the 80-plus participants learn more about firearms—and laser sights. The women attending the training at the Brooklyn Sportsman’s Club included chapter leaders for TWAW and various group representatives.

“The Michigan state conference is a great event for leaders and members of The Well Armed Woman to experience new activities and products,” states Donna Martorano, a TWAW Michigan co-leader. “It brings women together in a comfortable atmosphere.  This event is designed to equip, empower and educate our members.”

The two-day event included an on-site live-fire firearms familiarization program. The participants shot approximately 1,600 rounds during the hands-on range training and test sessions. A classroom program covered details on Crimson Trace laser sights and the many benefits that sighting accessories provide to firearms owners.

“This was a great venue for learning about firearms and laser sights, and experiencing how laser sights can help improve accuracy,” stated Erik Thornbury, Crimson Trace Channel Sales Coordinator and company representative at the event. “Everyone learned in a safe environment, gaining knowledge they can take with them and use whether they carry concealed or have a firearm for home defense.” Pistols and revolvers equipped with Crimson Trace laser sights were used during the range portion of the event. Participants discovered the benefits that laser sights provide in aiming, accuracy, firearm control and other factors in shot placement.

More programs pairing Crimson Trace products and representatives with TWAW events are planned for the future. TWAW Shooting Chapters is a non-profit organization that joins together groups of women across America. Those women meet monthly to practice, learn and grow as firearms owners and users. These TWAW events help women shooters learn more on related issues along with safe gun handling skills.

Swab-Its Star Chamber Cleaning Foam Swabs

DSC_2119

Swab-Its manufactures a number of firearm cleaning products: Bore-tips, Gun-Tips, Bore-Whips, Bore-Sticks and now the Star Chamber Cleaning Foam Swab. The company differentiates itself in the marketplace by producing foam reusable cleaning accessories that are effective and easy to use. Their latest addition makes cleaning that star chamber of your AR patterned rifle a real snap. To assess their ease of use and effectiveness, we started out with a scroungy AR chamber. In the lead photo, you’ll notice the gas tube. It’s not anodized, I’ll just leave it at that. So, you can well imagine what the chamber looks like! It was on this platform that we tested Swab-its Star Chamber Swab.

DSC_2122

I went in there with a bit of solvent to loosen things up. Because of the AR’s design, you can use a bag full of cotton patches and still not apply your solvent into all of the chamber’s recesses. This was not the case with the Swab-Its product. Because of its shape, every nook and cranny was accessible by simply rotating the swab a full 360 degrees as you swab out the chamber. After applying my solvent, I used a second swab to mop the chamber out. Another 1 or 2 minutes of swabbing produced some very satisfying results. Voila!

DSC_2124

Check that out boys and girls! That chamber never saw a chamber brush and it is squeaky clean. Coincidentally, the Star Chamber Swab exactly fits the charging handle channel in the receiver; also know for being a pain to clean.

DSC_2132Because, the Swab-its products are sponges, they’re easily cleaned and reusable over several cleanings. A little warm water and dishwashing liquid is all you need.

There are some very competent cleaning systems on the market but Swab-its products should supplement those kits, and the company’s Star Chamber Cleaning Foam Swab is definitely one of those. If you own an AR platform, they’re well worth your $20. I just wish they made them for a .308 chambering – maybe it’s in the works.

GEMTECH’s NEW 22LR SUBSONIC

bf73165a-a85f-4076-ae4b-ea5e9c17e872

Putting together a heavier bullet, a cleaner powder, a premium lube on the lead round nose projectile resulted in consistent velocities and harder hitting performance at subsonic, suppressor-friendly speed.

The 42 grain lead round nose bullet is heavier than traditionally available rounds, but isn’t so heavy as to cause instability. While “harder hitting” and .”22lr” aren’t usually associated together, steel silhouette shooters will appreciate the difference between a knockdown and a wobbling target that stays up! A designed velocity of 1020 feet per second ensures the heavier projectile remains subsonic speed in most all firearms without resorting to anemic velocities.

GEMTECH’s testing indicates that the ballistic coefficient for the 42gr GEMTECH bullet is approximately .125. Sold in 500 round bricks or 5,000 round cases, the GEMTECH SUBSONIC .22lr ammunition is sub-packaged in 50 rd tray boxes.
