New Mobile App Gets Customers Excited About Retail Shopping Again

Bring in customers with the number one mobile app from Bubandu for firearms businesses and brands. Increase your walk-in, phone-in and website traffic with the Patriot App!

Albuquerque, N.M., (July 2017) – Getting customers into your store has just gotten easier with the first mobile app designed purely for firearms stores and brands.Bubandu, a mobile technology company helping businesses and brands engage their audience on smart devices, is offering firearms industry companies an attractive limited time program for their Patriot App. The app costs about the same as a print ad in a traditional firearms magazine, but unlike a one-time ad, the app keeps on attracting new customers 24/7, and as an added bonus, Bubandu will include a press release to alert local and regional areas, as well as the firearms industry.

More than ever, businesses are looking for new ways to find and keep customers. An expected 60 percent of all retail traffic will be via mobile devices in 2017 with the hard-to-reach Millennials and Gen X generation leading the way. Summertime has technically been the slow time in the firearms industry with this summer being especially hard after the elections. The deals and products are in the stores, but getting customers to hear about them has proven difficult. Traditional advertising has not been as effective as in the past and social media has become a minefield for companies in the firearms industry.

Bubandu, founded by Randy Asselin, CEO of RockTops Digital Media, has been on the leading edge of the most innovative technology solutions for businesses since 1995. His expertise in telecommunications, wireless, networks, software and mobile solutions has already won him a New Mexico Business First Innovation Award and a Nomination for Innovation Edison Award for patents and pending patents on technologies that build business revenue and provide much needed traction for their brands.

Asselin, a die-hard firearms enthusiast, developed Bubandu to help firearms dealers and brands connect with their customers and potential customers and give them a reason to visit a retail location or buy online. Bubandu’s mobile application provides businesses with effective messaging through push notifications letting customers know when new product hits the shelf or a limited promotion has started. The Bubandu-powered apps are loaded with engagement tools such as:

– Push Notification
– Social Media Integration
– Website Integration
– Events Calendar
– Business Hours
– One-Touch Calling
– News  Feed
– Email from App
– Driving Directions

Traditional advertising is losing ground with 18-34-year-old males who now comprise over 40 percent of all mobile sales. Bubandu mobile technology provides retailers with an opportunity to express what is unique about their store, whether it is offering tips and promos to new shooters or the growing women’s market, or providing connectivity to hunting and fishing data, guides and hunting news feeds or keeping law enforcement and first responders connected to news and products that are critical to them.

Geoffrey Russell Outfitters (GRO), a premier firearms retailer, knew technology was

the answer to driving business. GRO owner, Luke McKinnon said, “GRO decided to move forward with an app because too many times, firearms retailers are stuck way behind the curve when it comes to technology. Our store feels comfortable and inviting, we serve locally roasted coffee, we make heavy use of technology in our back-office, it simply makes good business sense to have an app and be at the fingertips of our customers and firearms enthusiasts. The real value of the app for GRO is being able to push messages as a targeted way to reach people on their phones.  If it is a slow sales day we can push a message about a flash sale on ammo or accessories giving us an entirely different and effective way to reach existing customers. Our app also helps us ensure that our customers are aware of all of the different services that we offer, such as our Gun Buyer’s Concierge service, online storefront and information about our gunsmithing services, class schedules and more.  These services are what help us to keep the doors open. “

The first retailer to jump on the app technology was not as tech savvy as GRO, but nonetheless, Ron Peterson Firearms of Albuquerque, New Mexico knew it made smart business sense. Ron Peterson Firearms’ shop is a top of the line dealer in antique and modern firearms, accessories and ammunition and none of the store management was knowledgeable in today’s mobile technology. Randy worked with the team to develop the “Be the First to Know™” Ron Peterson Firearms App, now available free on iTunes and Android. The Ron Peterson app lets customers know when a product they are looking for has arrived and also lets customers and potential customers know when something goes on sale or features a rebate.

“The firearms world has changed dramatically over the past ten years due to technology. Online information and sales have deeply impacted our customer base and how we do business. Our customers are better informed and more knowledgeable. It only made sense to us to embrace mobile technology.  We wanted to be the first to know about how to be great on mobile and above all we want our customers to be the first to know about the great products that we have on a daily basis. Personal connectivity on mobile gives us an advantage over our online competitors. Our Ron Peterson Firearms app makes that happen,” Ron Peterson, owner Ron Peterson Firearms, LLC explained.

ABQ Guns, specializing in personal protection, concealed carry and women’s needs,

wanted their mobile app to make their training, promotions and new products available instantly to their customer base. “We are always looking for ways to set us apart from other businesses in our industry. We cannot rely only on being Woman/Veteran owned and a Blue Label Dealer. Our app allows me to reach out to customers with specials that only the customers with our ABQ Guns mobile app are privy to. Starting a web store was a beginning and adding the app allows our customers to shop wherever they may be, anytime, day or night. Giving the market convenience falls in line with our core business value: EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE. Technology keeps advancing and mobile will only gain in usage,” Belinda Gallegos, Owner ABQ Guns commented.

“As more and more firearms retailers look for ways to reach their current customers and engage that younger, more digital generation, a solid mobile app strategy is the one viable solution,” Asselin added. “The difference with Bubandu is that we are tech people who love to shoot and know the firearms industry. We won’t sell you an expensive, complicated app and leave you frustrated and out in the cold.  This is family to us. Our Patriot App program, offered for a limited time, offers firearms businesses a full-featured mobile app and press release for only $3,799. That is the cost of an average print advertisement and unlike print or some of the other media platforms, this is not a one-time deal, your mobile app is alive and will continuously attract new customers. Our team at Bubandu keeps it simple for the business and the user and it is fully integrated with your social media and business website. Our methodology is to offer a safe and direct business-to-customer communication link.”

For more information on the Patriot app, and what Bubandu can do to increase traffic in your store, call 1-800-702-0702 and say “Patriot!” to get your limited offer special pricing and press release. www.bubandu.com

Firearms Retailers, Ranges: List Your Events for National Shooting Sports Month

NEWTOWN, Conn. — Shooting ranges and firearms retailers are invited to be part of the first National Shooting Sports Month this August by listing their shooting events, programs and sales promotions at www.shootingsportsmonth.org.

With a theme of #LetsGoShooting, this coast-to-coast celebration will focus the public’s attention on the fun and enjoyment of target shooting. Newcomers will be shown how they can take their first shots, and experienced shooters will be encouraged to invite someone new to the range or contact someone who hasn’t touched their shooting gear for a while to help them rediscover the fun of target shooting.

NSSF asks ranges and retailers to participate by listing their August events and sales promotions at www.shootingsportsmonth.org so that consumers can find all the information they need to take part in the celebration. Getting noticed is easy:

  • Add your planned August events and/or sales promotions to the National Events Calendar.
  • Utilize the Promotional Toolkit provided by NSSF to connect your event, sales promotions, classes and programs to National Shooting Sports Month in August. The kit includes promotional flyers, the National Shooting Sports Month logo for your website and print materials, and tips on promoting the celebration through social media.

Manufacturers can participate by helping to promote National Shooting Sports Month through their websites and social media, and through sponsorships, with packages designed to solidly connect your brand with the shooting public — especially the thousands of new shooters who will be heading to the range for the first time. Conservation, hunting and target shooting organizations also are encouraged to help promote National Shooting Sports Month to their members by using the logo on their websites and in their communications.

An estimated 40 million Americans participate in target shooting sports, and millions more have said they’re interested in learning about rifle, shotgun and handgun shooting, according to research by the National Shooting Sports Foundation, the trade association for the firearms industry. With so many eager to give shooting a try, National Shooting Sports Month is an idea whose time clearly has arrived.

Need more information or help on how to become more involved and spread the word? Contact Zach Snow, NSSF Director, Shooting Range Services, at zsnow@nssf.org; 203-426-1320 ext. 224. Manufacturers can contact Chris Tatulli, NSSF Director, Exhibit and Sponsorship Sales, atctatulli@nssf.org, or Dave Jeannette, NSSF Senior Director, Sales, at djeannette@nssf.org, to learn about the sponsorship package that’s right for you.

image

Swab-its® 9mm Bore-Sticks™ are now in mass production, so they should now be available at your favorite dealers and distributors, as well as at www.swab-its.com.

The new 3 in 1 Swab-its Bore-Sticks are caliber-specific and also come with their own handle, eliminating the need for a cleaning rod or jag. As with the other Swab-its foam swabs, the Bore-sticks compress as they enter the barrel. Then, as they travel through the barrel, they expand into the rifling with a 360 degree tight bore fit for precision cleaning and lubricating.

Bore-sticks handles are made of robust and flexible polypropylene. The swabs are lint-free and washable, making the Bore-Sticks an innovative all-in-one lightweight, economical and portable replacement for the rod, jag and patch.

The 9mm Bore-Sticks will also clean .357, .38 and .380 bores. . Plans for other calibers are in product development.

Swab-its line of firearm products are designed and made in the USA to take the pain out of gun cleaning. Swab-its foam swabs are a US patented replacement to the patch, mop, and snake. All Swab-its foam swabs can be cleaned with soap and water or mineral spirits and used over and over The Bore-Tips® come in major calibers, threaded to the standard cleaning rod, while Bore-Whips come in .177 and .22/5.56. Swab-its Gun-tips® are foam swabs made of the same material as the Bore-tips and Bore-whips. They come in assorted lengths, head sizes, and thickness with their own handle. The new Swab-its® Star Chamber Cleaning Foam Swabs™ for AR-15/M4 and similar Modern Sporting Rifles feature wings that easily penetrate locking lugs to quickly clean the internal diameter of the barrel extension.

Bushnell Offers New Purpose-Built AR Optics

OVERLAND PARK, Kansas – July 14, 2017 – Bushnell, an industry leader in high-performance optical solutions for more than 65 years, has extended its popular AR Optics line with four additional sights that are each optimized for the modern sporting rifle.
Bushnell’s line of AR Optics is already the category leader for MSRs. New this year, the AR Optics line has grown with the release of two new purpose-built, caliber-specific riflescopes, the cutting-edge Accelerate 3x prism sight and the ambidextrous Transition 3x Magnifier.
“We looked at the most popular trends in AR rifles today and then set out to craft optical solutions that meet the demands placed on those guns by serious shooters,” said AR Optics line manager Bryan Parrish. “These optics are built to perform at any level, yet won’t break the bank.”
The 6.5 Creedmoor has quickly become a favorite of long-distance shooters and hunters alike. Bushnell’s new AR Optics 4.5-18x 40mm scope with Drop Zone 6.5 Creedmoor reticle is designed to maximize the round’s performance by providing holdover points for shots out to 600 yards. Tactical-style target turrets allow lightning-fast adjustments, and the side parallax focus allows clear target images at any range. The fully multi-coated optics give a bright, crisp sight picture and are housed in a durable 1-inch aircraft-grade aluminum tube.
Bushnell has also added an optic for shooters favoring MSRs chambered in the popular .300 Blackout. The new Bushnell AR Optics 1-4x24mm illuminated scope is equipped with a specially-designed DropZone .300 Blackout Illuminated reticle. The reticle features holdover points calibrated to both subsonic and supersonic .300 Blackout ballistics. The scope’s first focal plane design performs like a high-performance red dot at low power. When turned up to 4x magnification, it offers holdover points out to 300 yards. Magnification changes are nearly instantaneous with Bushnell’s exclusive ThrowDown PCL (power charge lever).
Gas guns like MSRs are well-suited for compact optics. Yet red dots don’t offer the magnification sometimes needed to reach downrange. The gray area between these two options isn’t so gray with the new Bushnell AR Optics Accelerate 4X Prism Scope. It has the compact stature of a red dot with the 4x magnification of a riflescope. The new, illuminated BTR-3 reticle in the Accelerate offers five brightness settings in both red and green. The center circle and red dot work together for quick acquisition, with drop points for long range shots. The mil-based design works with any caliber firearm.
Rounding out the new additions is the AR Optics Transition 3X Magnifier. Simply mount it behind a red dot optic with the ambidextrous flip mount. Engage the 3X magnifier when you need it, and flip it out of the way when you don’t. The Transition 3x Magnifier pairs perfectly with Bushnell’s AR Optics TRS-25, but works with any red dot. It’s built with fully multi-coated optics that provide optimal light transmission and is waterproof, fog proof and shock proof.
“With rugged durability, high-quality optics and coatings, and a price any AR rifle owner can afford, these new sights embody the AR Optics line,” Parrish said. “And they further expand the AR Optics supremacy within this key category of the firearms market.”
Bushnell, a Vista Outdoor brand, is one of the most recognizable and trusted names in precision hunting, tactical and recreational optics and accessories. For more information, visit
www.bushnell.com/aroptics.

Massachusetts Suppressor Legalization Hearing

On Tuesday, July 18th at 1:00 PM in Room A-1, the Massachusetts Joint Committee on the Judiciary will hear two bills which seek to legalize suppressor ownership in Massachusetts. H. 763, sponsored by Rep. Josh Cutler (D – Plymouth), H. 789, sponsored by and Rep. Paul Frost (R – Auburn) and Sen. Michael Moore (D – Second Worcester), would replace the current law that prohibits the possession of suppressors by non-manufacturers with language that allows private individuals to own and possess suppressors so long as they are not (1) prohibited persons; (2) committing a violent felony; (3) committing a crime of violence against a family member; or (4) possessing or selling controlled substances.

Although legal in 42 states, suppressors have been federally regulated since the passage of the National Firearms Act of 1934. Currently, prospective buyers must send in a Form 4 application to the ATF, pay a $200 transfer tax per suppressor, undergo the same process that is required to purchase a machine gun, and wait ten to twelve months for the ATF to process and approve the paperwork. In stark contrast, many countries in Europe place little to no regulations on their purchase, possession, or use.

The American Suppressor Association will be on hand to testify in support of these bills, but we need your help! Using the contact information below, please contact members of the Joint Committee on the Judiciary and politely urge them to vote in support of H. 763 and H. 789.

Headlines: November 6, 1991 KGB Dissolved

It’s Friday and time to kick start the weekend, I hope everyone had a productive week. It’s also time for our weekly shoot the shit, and boy there is a veritable cornucopia of shit to choose from; however, NOTHING surpasses the Russian collusion saga which has now taken on Biblical proportion and dwarfing God’s Creation, Virgin Mary, Christ’s Resurrection and  the upcoming Apocalypse. Charlton Heston’s “The Ten Commandments” can’t hold a stick in grandeur to the Russian collusion. Judging by how this story is moving through time and space, you can bet your derrière that Hollywood has its pecker tracks all over this.

The first thing I’d like to communicate to CNN, Washington Post, New York Times, CBS, MSNBC and DNC is that unless you’ve been freeze dried for 26 years you should know that Vadim Bakatin closed up shop on November 6, 1991. All of these organizations love using the KGB label because Hollywood has painted the KGB over the years as a bunch of fat guys in double breasted suites, stabbing and using poison darts against foreign agents. KGB agents like our own CIA agents work to identify and cultivate assets who can be leveraged out of fear, greed, envy or patriotism to deliver any amount of intelligence or provide access to sources of the desire information. Excessive whacking of individuals defeats that function and is generally undesirable because you’ll soon run out of assets, or potential assets. KGB and CIA officers are bipedal, have two eyes, legs, arms, wives, kids, love of country and a desire to retire and collect a good pension. So, take all of KGB crap dispensed by these organizations and apply it to its proper use.

Current Russian intelligence work is generally distributed among three groups: SVR – Foreign Intelligence Service (like our CIA), GRU  and FSB – Federal Security Service (like our FBI). There’s also one more possibility and that is the dreaded Tactical Pirozhki!

Tactical Piroshky

Of course, this is our own creation to give the left wing another point of collusion. We’ve also planned ahead and call your attention to the Cyrillic text on the left, which is Russian, and on the right it’s Ukrainian. Now, I fully anticipate that the previously identified organizations will likely expand the conspiracy to include Bulgarians, Romanians, Georgians, Latvian, possibly Bosnians, Turks and Azerbaijanis. At least one of these will involve LGBTQ interaction.

Friends, these poor bastards are so consumed by power that they’ve totally forgotten about the American people and our country’s global image. I will guarantee you that Vladimir Putin is sitting with Dmitry Medvedev saying “Ты можешь поверить в это дерьмо”

My closing thought – don’t get all revved up over this collusion crap, it’s nothing more than an attempt by the networks to keep you tuned to their channel and by the DNC to distract you from what you should be focusing on, and that is are my elected officials delivering on what they’ve promised. COURSE DESCRIPTION:

The objective of this course is to provide the participants with the abilities needed to effectively design, instruct and implement a reality based training (RBT) program using Non- Lethal Training Ammunition (NLTA). This type of training is synonymous with and also commonly known as,”Force-on-Force” Training (FOF) . The primary focus of this course will be the introduction, and application of the UTM Reality Based Training model for development of training with any type of NLTA. We will also introduce several of the current technologies available for force on force training. The principles and concepts taught in this block of instruction have direct application for Law Enforcement, Military or private training organization personnel.

Our goals for the training are accomplished through a teaching methodology which takes the
operator through a series of skill builders, drills and mini-scenarios in a realistic environment. It is a systematic, phase based approach to develop training utilizing a series of drill progressions involving stress inoculation, which we believe is critical to skills practice of any kind or discipline. In addition, it provides the operator an environment to manage his/her own physiological response to stress while applying good tactics and decision making. Realism is further added by allowing the operator to use his/her own duty weapons system and gear during training instead of simply a blue-gun or unfamiliar dedicated conversion weapon. Our goal is to promote training success not training scars.

This course, along with our training model also provides a platform for an agency/unit to test the strengths and limitations of their individual protocols, in variety of areas including tactics, arrest techniques, combatives/DT, CQB and many others. Regardless of your techniques, tactics or approach or to training in these areas, the goal of the course is to provide a means of seeing what works, what doesn’t and to serve as a springboard to enhance operator survivability through realistic training.

Specifically, in conjunction with instruction the participants will each take part in a variety of skill builders, drills and mini- scenarios (fragmentation drills) that will serve as a template or foundation for future application with his/her individual agency/unit. They will also serve as a team member tasked with the development and instruction of a group training session utilizing NLTA and the concepts and methods learned in the course.

Topics discussed in this course will include but are not limited to: Available technologies for force on force training, training model phases, safety guidelines for NLTA training, Use of Force and application in case law, role player development, testing protocols, utilization of limited resources including budget/facilities and scenario development.

HENSOLDT Optical Units for Germany’s Future Soldier Programme “Infanterist der Zukunft” Part 3

2015_German_Armed_Forces_Soldier_with_4x30_RSA-S_in_dessert_landscape

Wetzlar, Germany, 07/07/2017 – HENSOLDT has received another order for the German Bundeswehr’s “Infanterist der Zukunft – Extended System” (IdZ-ES) modernisation programme. The order includes the delivery of the IRV 600 A1 infrared attachment, the NSV 600 night vision attachment, the ZO 4×30 optical sight as well as the RSA-S reflex sight, the Spotter 60 spotting scope, the ZF 6-24×72 telescopic sight and additional accessories. The total value of the order is over 29 million euros.

“We are very happy about the trust placed in us and our products by the Bundeswehr and that we can make our contribution to the modernization of our armed forces with an order of this size,” said Andreas Hülle, Managing Director of HENSOLDT Optronics. The new sights enable infantry soldiers to better reconnoiter and identify even at long distances and with poor visibility…”

The ZO 4×30-IdZ optical sight serves to quickly acquire targets and to quickly and reliably take aim at them. Its wide field of vision of 8° makes it possible to monitor a scene over a wide area.

The RSA-S is intended for use as a red dot sight to acquire targets at close range. This reflex sight is waterproof and extremely resistant to shocks and vibrations. At only 100 grams it is a real lightweight among red dot sights.

The IRV 600 A1 infrared attachment is an uncooled, noiseless thermal imaging device. With a resolution of 640×480 pixels it enables the highest geometric resolution, to provide users with as much information as possible. This unit is now also more compact and about 28 percent lighter than its predecessor, the IRV 600. This makes progress on the further reduction of the total weight of an infantry soldier’s equipment.

The advantage of the NSV 600 night vision attachment is that it can be used together with daylight optical sights. In this way, even if there is little light left, the soldier benefits from the four times magnification of the ZO 4×30 basic optics.

Thanks to both the Picatinny rail and the NATO rail according to STANAG 4694, all of the sights can be quickly and easily fixed to the weapon, without additional tools being required. The units are all modular systems from HENSOLDT Optronics. This means that the soldier can use the optics not only autonomously, but also in combination with other units and that, when changing between night & day, the weapon does not have to be readjusted. For decades now, HENSOLDT has been a partner to the Bundeswehr for optics and optronics. The company could thus react practically to customer requests with its product portfolio.

A Candid Discussion Of SMGs

It’s Friday and time for our shoot the shit topic. This week, we’d like to present you with some of our ideas on the SMG. There are as many opinions floating around as Carter has little liver pills. What we’re presenting below is simply our opinion and a bit of food for thought.

You’ll frequently hear individuals talk about hitting steel at 300 yards etc., etc, etc. Hats off to these folks.

There are a number of SMGs to choose from on the market; most are chambered in pistol calibers, principally the 9mm – we’ll talk about the FNH P90, HK MP7 later in the article. These platforms are ideally suited for CQC / CQB, vehicle mounted activities like security details, flight crew use, maritime security or maritime assaults; for example, submarine escape trunks have 21 inch diameter hatches so swimming out can get a little funky with anything bigger than a small pack. All of these weapon systems have common elements; a high volume of fire, very compact and light, low recoil, are easy to control and have large magazine capacities; for example, the FN P90 has a 50 round magazine. They also have a common shortfall, in almost all cases penetration of hardened barriers is very limited. They are great short range firearms; for example, a 9mm SMG zeroed at 50 yards firing a 124gr FMJ NATO round, will allow a shooter the same hold from 25 yards to 100 yds, but from 125 yards to 150 yards he’ll need to hold 8  to 15 inches higher. However, at 200 yds. your hold would  look something like the figure below…

200 yd hold

So, unless you are putting down area fire, about the only thing you’re going to accomplish is make a lot of noise and run through ammo that you may need to get the hell out of Dodge.

Yeah, if you are “highly” skilled and watch a lot of You Tube you’ll hit steel but lets be honest, you won’t be very effective. At 300 yards? I don’t know folks…

So, what you’re after with a pistol caliber SMG is compactness, volume of fire, low recoil and good weapon control. That in our opinion is the proper role for this platform.

To bridge the gap between the 9mm SMG and the M4 and its shorter variants, KRISS offers its Vector in hotter rounds like the 10mm and 357 SIG. FN’s P90 with it’s 5.7×28 round has a published effective range of 200 yards but its real advantage is penetration. With the FNH SS190 round you can  start tackling hardened barriers and body armor at longer ranges.

The HK MP7 fires a 4.6mm x 30 round with a maximum magazine capacity of 40 rounds. Like the FNH SS190 round, HK’s 4.6 will defeat hardened barriers and Kevlar layers out to 200 yards.

Marketing labels these two sub machine guns as a PDW or Personal Defense Weapons but they all fill the same requirements; compactness, high volume of fire, low recoil and are very controllable.

None of these platforms are designed to shoot tight groups at 300 yds. and were never intended to substitute your carbine!

As with all shoot the shit topics, we encourage reader participation whether you know what you’re talking about or not, you can make unsupported comments, use uncensored profanity, insult anyone you wish or change the subject altogether. Keep in mind that this opportunity if free of charge so you won’t have to pay some jackass who studied psychology because they wanted to understand themselves $150 / hour.

OK, enough fun for the day! Have a great weekend, be safe, be happy and do spend some quality time with your buds and family.

GARMIN FORETREX 601 and 701 BALLISTIC EDITION

Garmin has introduced two new Foretrex models with some impressive capabilities. The 701 Foretrex Ballistics Edition features the Applied Ballistics Elite® software. Announcement details below…

OLATHE, Kan. /July 6, 2017/Business Wire — Garmin International Inc., a unit of Garmin Ltd. (NASDAQ: GRMN), today announced the Foretrex 601 and Foretrex 701 Ballistic Edition, its newest wrist-mounted GPS navigators for outdoor and tactical use. The Foretrex 601 and Foretrex 701 Ballistic Edition helps users keep their bearings nearly anywhere in the world thanks to the built-in GPS, GLONASS and Galileo satellite system support.

In addition to its high-sensitivity GPS, the new Foretrex 701 Ballistic Edition adds Applied Ballistics LLC Elite® software to calculate aiming solutions for long-range shooters. After a dominant showing at this year’s King of 2 Mile shooting competition, where the Foretrex 701 Ballistic Edition with AB Elite software made its first appearance, the advantages were clear. “Handling the various devices required to spot and engage targets with precision rifle fire can be an overwhelming task. Having your AB fire control strapped to your wrist frees up a hand for other tasks, which enables the shooter to execute more efficiently,” said Bryan Litz, champion shooter and Applied Ballistics Chief Ballistician.

The Applied Ballistics Elite® solver includes the entire Applied Ballistics bullet library and allows users to enter a variety of parameters including wind, temperature, humidity, range, and firing direction. It provides the information needed to fire projectiles through Extreme Long Range (ELR) including elevation holdover, windage, velocity and time of flight. The Applied Ballistics® Engine calculates variables such as Horizontal Coriolis Effect, Vertical Coriolis Effect, Spin Drift, Aerodynamic Jump, and more. It also includes the most extensive database of custom drag models for hundreds of bullet types, which are live fire verified in the Applied Ballistics® Lab. When strapped to the wrist, the shooter never has to take their eyes off the downrange target to check their paper DOPE charts, and with the dynamic Range Card feature, the shooter can make quick adjustments based on environmental conditions to dial in the shooting solutions to actual impact points downrange.

“With the Foretrex 601 and Foretrex 701, we were able to pack more features than ever before, including the addition of GLONASS and Galileo support into a very durable, but compact device,” said Dan Bartel, Garmin vice president of global consumer sales. “These Foretrex models help you keep your hands free while you focus on easily navigating the path ahead.”
Explore longer with the Foretrex 601 and 701 thanks to a battery life that exceeds 48 hours in navigation mode, up to one week in UltraTrac™ mode, and up to one month in watch mode (requires 2 AAA batteries, not included). Every bit as tough as they look, these devices are constructed to military standards for thermal, shock and water performance (MIL-STD-810G standard), and are designed to withstand the elements.
These rugged and compact wrist-mounted navigators have a high-resolution 2-inch display and are packed with features such as dual-position format that allows the user to simultaneously show two customizable sets of coordinate systems on one screen. For tactical operations, the display offers NVG mode for compatibility with night vision goggles, and supports the Jumpmaster feature to assist with hitting the Drop Zone.

The units are BLE and ANT compatible, and support external ANT+ sensors such as the tempe™ temperature sensor, heart rate monitors and cadence/speed sensors. Users can also remotely activate any of Garmin’s VIRB cameras. Foretrex 601 and Foretrex 701 allows for a host of connected features like smart notifications1 that allow the user to receive emails, texts and alerts on the device, plus automatic uploads to Garmin Connect™ and LiveTrack. Compatible with Garmin’s exclusive QuickFit™ 26 bands as well as Nylon straps, it’s easy to customize for any of your adventures.

These devices are expected to be available in July with a suggested retail price of $249.99 and $599.99 respectively. For more information, visit garmin.com/outdoors and appliedballisticsllc.com.

The Foretrex 601 and Foretrex 701 Ballistic Edition wrist-mounted navigation is the latest solution from Garmin’s expanding outdoor segment, which focuses on developing technologies and innovations to enhance users’ outdoor experiences. Whether hiking, hunting, geocaching, golfing, or using satellite communication, Garmin outdoor devices are becoming essential tools for outdoor enthusiasts of all levels. MasterPiece Arms Introduces the Multi-Barrel, Multi-Caliber Capable MPA 65BA-SL Bolt Action Rifle

The rifle incorporates the West Texas Ordnance Switch Lug System, which allows the shooter to change the barrel in five minutes, without affecting the accuracy.

Comer, Ga.- (July 2017)MasterPiece Arms (MPA), manufacturers of the MPA BA Rifles, Chassis Systems, Defender Pistols and Carbines, Suppressors and MPAR Rifles, is pleased to introduce the MPA 65BA-SL Bolt Action Rifle. The rifle incorporates the West Texas Ordnance Switch Lug System, which allows the shooter to change the barrel in five minutes, without affecting the accuracy. The Switch Lug System gives the rifle the capability of using multiple calibers. The rifle comes chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor with a hand lapped Spencer barrel. The action is the new Curtis Custom Axiom and the shooter can choose either the MPA Chassis System or Competition Chassis. With the incorporation of the Switch Lug System there’s no need for a second rifle. Simply get a second barrel in your preferred caliber, and possibly a spare bolt and magazine and now your match gun can also be your training gun. In addition, the Switch Lug System also makes barrel replacement a very simple task, all you need is a Torx wrench to make the switch.” said Phil Cashin, president of MasterPiece Arms.

The GRIM Future of Retail Firearm Sales in the U.S.A.

Jim Shults, President, Shults Media Relations, LLC published a thoughtful and largely accurate commentary on the future of retail firearm sales.

The brick and mortar retailers are, in fact, under severe pressure from internet sellers but what concerns me even more is that  both face the harsh reality that discretionary spending by consumers is under tremendous pressure. Until we see a meaningful increase in disposable income and lower taxes, a trip to the mall to cruise your favorite store and pick something up along the way will be few and far between.

The GRIM Future of Retail Firearm Sales in the U.S.A.

By Jim Shults

When reading through a recent copy of Forbes, I keyed in on an article about major brick and mortar retailers having problems (to say the least) with losses to internet sales. You see, my wife and I had just been in a Dillard’s store in Scottsdale’s Fashion Mall. This huge (I would guess 200,000 square feet per floor), multi-level store was packed with costly inventory, cost a lot to operate – and had just eight customers in it (including us). When I questioned employees, they said the Internet was killing the store.

I go into our local Cabela’s during the week and wonder how they do it – or if they really are. In Phoenix, Dick’s Sporting Goods big box store was so empty of customers we rattled around like BBs in a box car. This is not good!

Put yourself in a retailer’s place. Typically, you may have several hundred to several thousand different SKUs (stock keeping units) in your store. This means you have a boatload of money tied up in inventory – and that leftover store inventory also gets taxed (inventory tax) at the end of the year in most states (something few folks know).

Couple this world of retail competition with the costs of payroll, mortgage or rent, city and county property taxes, property insurance for fire, theft, and liability – and then add water, electric, heat, cooling, displays, upkeep, security, marketing/advertising, and theft (shrinkage), and you can see how a retailer’s cost problems grow exponentially.

To keep it simple, let’s look at payroll. For this example, we will set employee base pay at $15 per hour (it can be more or less but let’s just go with this number–please do not pick on the author). Now add in the employer’s silent share (payroll tax made up of FICA and Medicare), unemployment tax, workman’s compensation, and other costs and fees in any particular state regarding an employee, and suddenly this “$15 per hour” employee becomes a per-hour cost to the employer of about $21 per employee – and that doesn’t even count health insurance.

So what does just this extra “puny” $6 ($21 minus $15= $6 for those in Loma Linda) an hour represent in cost to the employer for a full-time employee – more than $12,000 annually! This figure also does not include any employer profit sharing, IRAs or simple 401Ks (if provided in today’s high-cost world).

Now to cover that single “silent cost” of just $6 an hour or $12,000+ a retailer has to sell somewhere between $59,000 and $90,000 in guns at full MSRP to make up that one employee’s “extra” cost from the profit. If it is a full line store, they can make it up a bit easier with lots of optics, cutlery, clothes and other ancillary sales that have a slightly higher margin – except that those are also the very items and sales that the Internet is syphoning off.”

Gun profit margins are thin, yet guns are important to have in a full line store, and vital in a gun shop. On top of that, the cost of maintaining a gun inventory is not cheap! All these costs are one reason why so many brick and mortar retailers (of all types) are struggling to survive against internet sales.

Something to think about in just the gun industry. If we keep losing major retailers such as Gander Mountain, Sports Authority, and the failed parts and pieces of Sportsman’s Warehouse (from a few years ago), the gun industry and its consumers are in trouble. Additionally, if you think the mom and pop gun shops across the country are making it, you are wrong; we just do not hear of them going under the way we do when big operations go down, and the generally older folks who own them are retiring and shutting down.

If these outdoor/hunting retailers continue to shrink or go out of business, how will the firearm industry survive? And, if big box gun retailers and full line independents keep going out of business, say goodbye to all the other stuff they carry, from shoes to camping gear, and boats to bullets.

Generally, (remember, we said generally) one cannot legally buy new firearms (and in many states even used guns) through anything other than a FFL licensee. So a legal transfer means an FFL licensee must usually process the sale. If we continue to shut down or kill off the firearms retailers, there is certainly no future for new firearm sales because Internet sales without FFLs being involved are, contrary to politically inspired left-wing media lies, illegal.

Now, you can say, “Well, private people can get an FFL” – and that was true years ago (for example, I had a special one as a military and gun magazine editor-in-chief in the 1980s and 1990s). But things are much tighter today, and more regulations by a hostile liberal government and/or ATF can literally tighten the legal FFL outlet stream to a tiny trickle almost overnight!
Currently, there are about 145,000 FFLs in the U.S. – but in the mid-1990s there were 450,000! A regulation change here or there can take that remaining 145,000 down big time. Also, of that 145,000, many are institutionally owned by manufacturers, retailers, importer/exporters, et al, and they often have several FFLs for various legal and business reasons. Cabela’s has recently taken to selling guns online but, to finalize the sale, you still have to go to one of their stores to get the gun and fill out the federal and (usually) state clearance. Is this then the future of “gun sales?”

Firearms sales actually support a large part of our economy, to include many state game and fish operations. As Internet sales continue to rob retailers of their non-firearm, higher profit margin items, you may begin to see an interesting problem for the entire firearms manufacturing, hunting and outdoor industry develop.

The firearms industry (guns) is the base of many other industries and businesses dependent on hunting and shooting in general. Think of all the items dependent on gun ownership and the related shooting sports, to include even big ticket items like SUVs, RVs, etc. and the towns, and even states, that have hunting as part of their income base.

Retail locations are simply becoming showrooms for Internet sales. As a guy with a long history in retail sporting goods years ago, it all makes me seriously sad, and it bodes badly for the health of our currently free society when it comes to the Second Amendment and what that amendment really means for citizen freedom.

Go to most any shopping center nowadays and you will see closed stores of all types, courtesy of Amazon and other Internet warehouse outlets. Perhaps the Internet scenario is something the firearms industry and associations should begin to address, because it is coming at us at light speed – and when the retailers are gone, or retail gun access is gone or incredibly reduced, then where will you legally purchase a firearm and, if you can, what will be the cost and trouble to do so?

Newington, N.H. (July 3 2017) – SIG SAUER, Inc., The Complete Systems Provider™, unveils the MCX VIRTUS in 5.56 NATO and 300 BLK, a platform engineered and built to be the most adaptive, accurate and longest-lasting rifle available.

The original SIG MCX rifle, conceived for the demands of the Special Operations community, quickly became known in the firearms world because of its durable performance and end-user configurability. To enhance the design, SIG received feedback from Special Operations units throughout the world and made the most advanced rifle ever built, even better. The result is the MCX VIRTUS.

“SIG has supplied firearms to meet the unique demands of specialized units for decades,” said Ron Cohen, President and CEO of SIG SAUER. “Similar to the P320® pistol, the MCX VIRTUS was created to be the ultimate modular platform, a design that will change the demands of the modern rifle for years to come.”

In ancient Rome, “Virtus” stood for virtue, courage, bravery and excellence. The MCX VIRTUS embodies the spirit of the professional users who have depended on and continue to rely on the MCX in the field. Available in Patrol, Pistol and SBR variants, in Stealth Gray or FDE color, the MCX VIRTUS utilizes the proven SIG SAUER short-stroke piston system and unique internal recoil system that eliminates the M4-style buffer tube. The result is a compact, light-recoiling platform that can be configured for any task.

Cold hammer-forged barrels, available in 9”, 11.5” and 16” lengths, feature an advanced interchangeable design and can be exchanged at the operator level. To increase accuracy, the barrels are of a heavier contour profile. Also assisting with accuracy is the new SIG Matchlite Duo trigger, a two-stage unit that provides the shooter with a crisp, clean feel. A new tapered bolt lug design results in smoother cycling and extends the bolt life. Capping off the upgrades are eight (8) new free-floating M-LOK handguards available in standard and suppressor-ready configurations.
