Bushnell Announces AR Optics Laser Sights

OVERLAND PARK, KansasOctober 16, 2017 – Bushnell, an industry leader in high-performance optical solutions, announces the addition of three high-end laser sights to its industry-leading line of AR Optics.
Bushnell’s AR Optics line is already the category leader for MSRs. New this year, AR Optics now offers laser lighting systems in the Haste, Chase and Rush. Each model is a purpose-built laser sight with advanced features and high-performance output.
“More and more MSR users are finding the benefits of laser sighting systems impossible to ignore,” said AR Optics line manager Bryan Parrish. “Our engineers worked tirelessly to advance these systems, with innovative designs purpose-built for the rifle platform. With high-output lasers and easy one-button, constant-on operation, the Haste, Chase and Rush outperform the competition and offer users a better way to make the shot.”
Waterproof, ergonomic and ready for every MSR – including AR pistols — the Bushnell AR Optics Haste is the epitome of forward-grip lasers. Available in red or green laser options, the Haste mounts under the bore, and provides a bright, continuous, long-lasting beam with the push of a single button. The waterproof construction ensures it won’t falter in bad weather.
“Keeping the laser in-line with bore is paramount to accuracy,” Parrish said. “And we were able to do that with improved ergonomics. It allows you to better grip the rifle and provide a more stable shooting platform.”
The AR Optics Chase is two sights in one. Push a button for a bright, continuous laser beam available in red or green. Flip-up the post for a physical sight. The Chase mounts over the bore, allowing for a seamless, accurate transition between multiple targets. The back-up sight is ideal for longer shots, and integration saves valuable space on the accessory rail.
“Back-up iron sights are an important part of many shooters’ MSR accessory kit,” Parrish said. “We combined the BUIS with a laser to cut weight and also increase the laser’s accuracy by aligning it with the bore.”
The AR Optics Rush is a hi-rise optics mount with built-in laser sight for close quarter environments. The integrated, offset laser saves space on the rifle. It is available in red or green, and projects a continuous, powerful beam with one push of a button. It replaces standard optics mounts, and is compatible with any optic that can be mounted on a picatinny rail.
“Like the Chase, the Rush combines two essential accessories,” Parrish said. “It takes the optics mount and makes it a dual-purpose accessory. These purpose-built products with industry-leading technology embody the AR Optics line, and they further expand the AR Optics supremacy within this key category of the firearms market.”
Bushnell, a Vista Outdoor brand, is one of the most recognizable and trusted names in precision hunting, tactical and recreational optics and accessories. For more information, visit

HM Defense announces the HMBTM Bolt

HM Defense HMB Bolt

Mt. Orab, Ohio – HM Defense announces the release of its all-new HMBTM Bolt, an enhanced durability bolt for M16, AR-10 and AR-15 rifles. The HMBTM Bolt corrects a natural weak point in existing Mil-Spec M16, AR-10 & AR-15 bolts where the cam pin hole passes through the bolt. Under extensive use, including the stress of combat, a standard Mil-Spec bolt can fail at the cam pin hole location.

The HMBTM Bolt by HM Defense eliminates the pass-through cam pin hole and replaces it with a cam pin socket and tapered cam pin design. This new patent-pending design eliminates the natural weak point of Mil-Spec bolts by significantly increasing the amount of metal (and strength) at the cam pin location. The result – No more broken bolts!

“The HMBTM Bolt design provides a substantial improvement in long-term durability over the existing Mil-Spec bolt,” said Clay Barker, General Manager at HM Defense. “Every M16 and AR rifle can benefit from our new HMB TM Bolt design”HM Defense HMB Bolt Cross Section

Additionally, the HMBTM Bolt reduces contact between cam pin and firing pin, enabling smoother operation of firing pin, bolt lugs and aft gas rings. The new cam pin socket also retains lubrication for extended operations.

The HMBTM Bolt is 100% compatible with Mil-Spec M16 & AR-15 BCGs and can be installed as a drop-in bolt replacement in any existing M16 or AR-15 rifle. The HMBTM Bolt will be standard on all HM Defense HM15 rifles and available as an HM Defense bolt replacement kit or in a complete HMBTM Bolt Carrier Group starting in September 2017.

Lyman Products Introduce the GuardianGrip

The patented design of the Pachmayr GuardianGrip™ carries like a compact and shoots like a full-size grip.

Middletown, Conn. (October 2017)Lyman® Products is proud to unveil the first in a grip that offers the concealment of a compact with the shooting control of a full-size grip: the GuardianGrip™, by Pachmayr, a division of Lyman Products. The patented design allows the user to simply squeeze the button on the front of the grip and a spring loaded finger extension drops down out of the GuardianGrip, converting a two-finger compact grip into a controllable three finger grip.

Initially available for J-frame revolvers, the GuardianGrip line will expand to include many of the popular conceal carry pistols. The GuardianGrip is made from high-strength polymers and is impervious to moisture, weather and chemicals. The ergonomic GuardianGrip includes an open backstrap for greater concealability and textured panels for a positive grip. Snag-free and comfortable, the contour of the GuardianGrip also allows the easy use of speed loaders.

“The GuardianGrip is the answer for every person that carries concealed yet feels a compact grip does not give them the control they need, whether it is during target shooting or if an actual self-defense scenario arose,” Trevor Mullen, VP of Global Marketing and Business Development for Lyman Products, said. “The GuardianGrip adds that level of confidence for the owner of a compact conceal firearm, just by providing them with a positive full-size grip.”

Stop by the Lyman Products booth #713 at the 20178 NASGW Expo and Annual Meeting in San Antonio, Texas, Oct. 17-20, 2017 to see the new GuardianGrip that will revolutionize conceal carry grips.

When Seconds Matter: The Story of a Daring Rescue During Hurricane Harvey

by Ashley Burgess Gall

It was late August and Hurricane Harvey had made landfall over South Texas, bringing with it devastating winds, storm surges and extreme rainfall, culminating to produce some of the worst flooding the area had ever seen. The first major hurricane to strike South Texas since Celia in 1970, Harvey was making sure his mark was felt. Americans across the country were glued to their mobile devices, computers and televisions watching the updates come from the Houston area and trying to find ways to help Texas.

Mike* was one such person. A native Houstonian, specifically from Memorial, Mike was fortunate enough to have his home and his business office spared from the flooding. He knew he was one of the lucky ones and couldn’t sit idly by as he watched his beloved Memorial experience extreme flooding. So, he did what any red-blooded American would do in a time of crisis; he grabbed his go-bag, a medical kit, suture kit, multi-tool and DoubleStar Wrath “CrashHawk” and headed out to help.

Mike knew his skills could be used to help people who were trapped by the rapid flooding. Memorial had experienced swift flooding in the dead of night. With many people receiving no advanced warning, they were trapped in their homes as cars weren’t even able to escape their driveways from the oncoming water. Mike met with a friend who had been helping people in another area of Houston and, together, they began to search for flood victims.

The neighborhood began to flood rapidly as the Addicks Reservoir and Addicks Dam were released. Mike and his friend came upon a family of four that were trying to escape their home with as much as they could before the water took away everything they had. Three of the family members were able to get into the boat before things became serious. The father, a man approximately 65 years old, was trapped in the kitchen by the rising water. It was dark, time was running out, they only had one light and everyone began to fear that the father would be swept away by the current.

Mike grabbed the Wrath and sprang into action. Using the CrashHawk, Mike smashed through the small sliding kitchen window with a swift three to four chops. He was able to remove the entire window structure and scraped all the glass edges off quickly. The father jumped onto the kitchen counter and crawled out the window into the safety of the awaiting boat, escaping the murky flood waters that were filling his house.

Mike and his friend would go on that night to continue helping flood victims, but the memory of that first family they rescued and how his Wrath made all the difference in those crucial moments will forever stay with him.

*name has been changed to protect his identity.

WHERE IS MY TUNA SALAD?

Image result for Tuna Salad

It’s Friday and another weekend is upon us. It’s also time for our weekly shoot the shit, which you all know is a time during which you can make any unsupported comment, use uncensored profanity, insult anyone you wish or change the subject altogether. We offer this service, at no charge, because we feel you shouldn’t have to pay a couple hundred bucks an hour to have some jackass who’s only reason for studying psychology was so they could understand themselves  listen to you.

Reader’s we will be glad to see 2017 make its exit. Let’s see – two major hurricanes, a mass killing and towering inferno and on top of all that, MiniMe in Pyongyang is threating to nuke us. Is that enough or what? However, for me the challenge was even more profound. I love tuna salad and during the week I ran out. So, I left the bat cave to pick some up; however, my usual grocer had none. Totally disappointed, I went to a second location of the same grocer, no tuna salad to be had. In an act of desperation, I went a third store location. Unbeknown to me, this is a store that caters to the “Micro-Generation.” Walking through the front door you could sense the total lack of social skills and personalities. It’s very likely I lost 10 points of I.Q. just walking through the front door, but they had tuna salad. So, I scored a couple of containers and proceeded to check out. The checkout clerk, customer in front of me and behind me all looked like the life had been sucked out of them so to test my theory I told the cashier I had just purchased a iPhone 8. Her face immediately lights up and everyone wanted to know how I liked it. Think about this for a while.

Those of you invested in the market, you’re undoubtedly excited with the stock index approaching $23,000. This price level reflects the market’s anticipation over pending tax legislation and a continued reduction in regulations, all great news! Most of the financial pundits talk about how well the average man’s 401K is doing. A true statement, but you need to understand that, per the U.S. Census Bureau, only 32% of Americans have a 401K, but making matters worse most are underfunded – people are contributing at a low rate, which  should improve with higher wages and lower taxes. So, who’s doing well? It looks like the institutional investors who have also managed to rack up $550+ Billion in margin account debt. Continuing…

Investors look at a measure called the P/E, or price to earnings ratio to gain a sense of how well a stock is priced. It’s the ratio of a company’s stock price  to its earnings per share. The industry considers a PE of 20 to be an indication that the stock is not overpriced or undervalued. So, if earnings per share is $1 the stock should be selling at $20 or so.  Today PEs for the various indices are:

  1. Dow Industrials  about 21

  2. Dow Transportation about 20

  3. Dow Utilities about 38

  4. Russell 2000 about 99

  5. Nasdaq about 26

  6. S&P about 25

So, we’re seeing hints of an overpriced market, driven by enthusiasm for the proposed tax plan and present and future reductions in burdensome regulations.

I’m subjecting you to this because I want to point to the need for Congress to get  off its duff, get to work and move forward with a tax package. Sadly, I’m not optimistic that our legislative branch will accomplish anything; in which case, the economic outlook will be much less promising, but it won’t be Donald J Trump’s fault!

We’ve been blessed by a President who focused on the economy like a laser, recognizing that it is as important as a strong, modernized and mobile military. In 2008 the banks were bailed out, the public was not, yet they account for roughly 70% of GDP. The proposed tax reform is CRITICALLY important because it drives capital investment by businesses and reduces taxes on the individual which will jumpstart consumption.

Alright, were done! Have a great weekend be safe and spend some quality time with your buds and family.

fb41dd86-8dc7-43ca-9ca3-59308cbfb288

Statement from the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) and the Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers’ Institute (SAAMI):

Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with the families and loved ones of all those killed and injured in the criminal attack in Las Vegas. The manufacture, distribution and sale of automatic firearms and their components has been stringently regulated by federal laws since 1934. We believe the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) should interpret and enforce existing laws and regulations. We call upon ATF to conduct a prompt review and evaluation of aftermarket trigger activation devices such as bump stocks to determine whether they are lawful to install and use on a firearm under the National Firearms Act of 1934 (NFA), or whether, if they have no function or purpose other than to convert a conventional firearm into an automatic firearm, they are regulated items under the NFA. We urge Congress to allow ATF to complete its review before considering any legislation so that any policy decisions can be informed by the facts and ATF’s analysis.

DO THE BUMP

Image result for bump stocks

No, I’m not talking about the 1970’s dance. I’m talking about the bump stock, which is the now infamous accessory used by Stephen Paddock on the weapons employed in the Las Vegas shootings. Folks, if you are relying on the media for accurate information you’re dreaming. So, I’d like to help you fill in the gaps.

  1. Fully automatic weapons manufactured before 1986 are legal to own in the U.S. and they are classified and regulated under the National Firearms Act (NFA). These firearms are highly collectible; for example, an M16 registered receiver commands a price of $20,000 to $30,000. People buy these weapons to own a piece of militaria and there are annual gatherings where collectors get together to fire each other’s automatic rifles and machine guns. It’s a two to three day event that’s a great deal of fun if you have the chance to attend.
  2. As to the bump stock, the legal test for what constitutes an automatic weapon is clear and precisely defined. Does one trigger pull result in multiple rounds fired? If the answer is yes, the weapon is automatic period. If a trigger pull results in only one round being fired then the weapon is semi-automatic. For obvious reasons the rate at which you pull the trigger is irrelevant. The bump stock simply increases the rate at which the trigger is pulled by the shooter. It accomplishes that by harnessing the rifle’s recoil impulse. With or without a bump stock one trigger pull fires one round. This is the reason ATF cleared it.
  3. There’s been shameful wild-eyed calls for criminal and civil actions against bump stock manufacturers but how reasonable is that. One news celebrity accused manufacturers of “intentionally getting around” regulations. Well what the hell is a tax shelter if not a work-around? These manufacturers invested capital and perspiration to bring a product to market which the market accepted and thousands have been sold. These companies presented functional design specifics to the ATF Technical Division for approval prior to production and marketing. So where is the criminality?
  4. Last but not least disparaging remarks about the ATF and the NRA are a vulgar display of ignorance. The ATF has an enormous task and limited resources, and the NRA does more to promote and advance firearm safety and awareness than any organization in the world.

So, cut the crap news media and stop prejudging companies on the airwaves, let the justice system and the courts do that. Please present facts, not drama, half truths or flat out lies. Have the energy and integrity to research before you present. Stop the ridiculous argument of “why do you need that”- why do you need a 220 mph Lamborghini? It’s a free market economy and one miscreant should not influence everyone else’s life.

Stop referring to the NRA’s position on the bump stock issue as a doge, it is not. It’s precisely the right thing to do. Let ATF make their determination.

I’m astounded by your lack of journalistic integrity which is what prompted this short piece ; it’s not a position for or against bump stocks which is what you guys should be doing.

Expeditionary Warfare Conference coming to Annapolis Oct. 24-26

Show addresses challenges of distributed operations of the Joint and Naval Force in a more contested warfighting environment. With that, we are pleased to team with the Mine Warfare Association. An optional, classified session at Northrop Grumman’s Annapolis offices also will be part of this event.

image001ARLINGTON, VA – Press registration now is open online for the 22nd annual Expeditionary Warfare Conference, Oct. 24-26, at the Westin Annapolis in Maryland, the National Defense Industrial Association announces. (http://www.ndia.org/events/2017/10/24/ewc17/registration)

This premier event will take place in Annapolis, giving defense and industry leaders, professionals, and government a venue close to Washington to meet and address challenges in the deployment, operations and sustainment of expeditionary forces, said retired Navy Rear Adm. Sinclair Harris. He is chairman of NDIA’s Expeditionary Warfare Division and vice president for the defense market at the Logistics Management Institute (LMI), a 56-year-old, not-for-profit government consulting firm.

This year, NDIA has partnered with the Mine Warfare Association for a session on the first day about aspects of mine warfare: design, countermeasures, de-mining and remediation of areas, unexploded ordnance and hazardous chemical, biological, and radiological materials.

Joining with the Mine Warfare Association “allows us to really look at the full spectrum of expeditionary challenges in an ever more contested operational environment,” Harris said. Expeditionary warfare is a central element of the Joint Concept for Access and Maneuver in the Global Commons (JAM-GC), he said, an initiative that followed the Air-Sea Battle operational concept.

“Expeditionary operations are essential and cover the full spectrum of military operations, whether you’re talking about disaster relief as we see in the Caribbean today, combat operations in support of Fifth Fleet, and obviously in support of Western Pacific (WESTPAC) operations,” Harris said.

This year’s session topics include current operations, mine warfare, capabilities development and acquisition, expeditionary logistics integration, and the challenges that resource sponsors have in addressing this aspect of warfare.

We’re honored to have many experts as keynote speakers, including:

  • · Marine Corps Lt. Gen. Brian Beaudreault, deputy commandant of plans, policies and operations
  • · Marine Corps Maj. Gen. David Coffman, director of the Expeditionary Warfare Division
  • · Marine Corps Major Gen. Vincent Coglianese, assistant deputy commander for installations and logistics
  • · Thomas Dee, acting undersecretary of the Navy
  • · Marine Corps Brig. Gen. Francis Donovan, commanding general of Fifth Marine Expeditionary Brigade, and commander of Task Force-51
  • · Kristin French, principal deputy assistant secretary of Defense and acting assistant secretary of Defense for logistics and materiel readiness
  • · Marine Corps Lt. Gen Robert Hedelund, commanding general of II Marine Expeditionary Force
  • · Navy Vice Adm. Andrew Lewis, Deputy Chief of Naval Operations for operations, plans and strategy
  • · Retired Navy Vice Adm. John Miller, The Fozzie Miller Group LLC
  • · Navy Rear Adm. John Neagley, program executive officer of littoral combat ships
  • · Navy Rear Adm. Peter Stamatopoulos, director of supply, ordnance and logistics operations division under the chief of Naval Operations
  • · William Williford, executive director of Marine Corps Systems Command
  • For more information, to see the agenda, and to register, visit the conference webpage: www.NDIA.org/EWC.

Our Letter To Jimmy Kimmel

Dear Jimmy,

The only reason I write today is because, unlike several of your counterparts, I believe you have a measurable I.Q. I share your shock and disappointment with the events of 1 October in Las Vegas. The loss of innocent life at the hands of a genetic defect is tragic, but your call for more gun control is flawed. I’m not going to rehash the true and common argument that no additional gun laws would have prevented Stephen Paddock from carrying out his heinous act. My argument is simpler and grounded in an economics principle that we know as substitution.

Tighter gun laws, assault weapon bans, ammunition restrictions, accessory restrictions will solve nothing. Evil, violence and hatred are human behaviors and in the absence of a firearm a human will find a way to express their violence and hatred. When a gun is inaccessible or unavailable, a perpetrator will use a vehicle, a knife, Molotov cocktail or any other device that he or she can gain access to or construct, this is substitution, and France, UK, Brussels and Madrid are living proof of that concept. Jimmy, when you are hungry at a ball game and they’re out of burgers you’ll eat a hot dog. So, unless you can figure out a way to implant a cranio-rectal or cranio-vaginal short circuit detector at birth, gun control will prevent nothing. I don’t think you’re ready to accept mass murder by truck as being o.k., are you?

I close by expressing my sincere hope that your shock over the Las Vegas tragedy is more than pandering to a mutual admiration society, or opportunism, but rather a genuine condemnation backed by a sizeable cash donation to aid the families of victims.

Warmest Regards,

Sal

Shell Shock Technologies’ NAS3 Casings Used in New Ammunition Line, NovX Ammunition

NovX Ammunition, featuring Shell Shock Technologies’ casings, is lighter, faster, flies flatter and with less recoil.

Westport, Conn. (October 2017) – Shell Shock Technologies, LLC., an early stage technology and manufacturing company focused on developing innovative case technologies for the ammunition  industry, announces that NovX Ammunition has introduced the most effective, lethal combination of bullet technology in more than a century with the introduction of its 9mm ammunition featuring Shell Shock Technologies’ revolutionary NAS3 casings.

NovX’s new patent-pending 9mm ARX® Engagement: Extreme Self-Defense cartridges combine the innovative properties of a polycarbonate/copper ARX bullet with the Shell Shock Technologies NAS3 casing. The bullet design is a proven platform that leads to highly efficient energy transfer, superior terminal performance, controlled penetration in fluid-based targets and optimum maximum range to lessen the chance of collateral damage. The ammunition produces 20 to 30 percent higher velocity over standard ammunition while reducing felt recoil by 20 to 30 percent and providing a 40 to 60 percent weight reduction versus standard ammunition.

The NovX 9mm RNP® CrossTrainer was developed in conjunction with the 9mm ARX Engagement cartridge utilizing the Shell Shock Technologies NAS3 casing combined with the round nose projectile bullet instead of the ARX profile. With nearly identical weights and velocities as the 9mm ARX Engagement round, the RNP CrossTrainer is an excellent choice for training, competition and recreational shooting.

“We are truly excited and proud to have our casings be part of the launch of the NovX ammunition line. With a bullet that is lighter, faster and flies flatter, combined with lower recoil, NovX seems poised to set the ammo world on fire,” said Craig Knight, CEO of Shell Shock Technologies.
