The IWI US Galil ACE Featured on the January American Rifleman Cover
American Rifleman article “Galil ACE®, IWI Brings The AK Into the Modern Era” by Field Editor Jeremiah Knupp, delves into the history of the Galil from its early concept and use by the Israel Defense Force to today’s commercialized rifle.

IWI US Galil ACE_ 5.56 with Stabilizer Brace
Harrisburg, Pa. (January 2018) – IWI US, Inc., a subsidiary of Israel Weapon Industries (IWI) Ltd., is extremely proud to have the Galil ACE® appear on the January 2018 cover of the NRA’s American Rifleman magazine.
“It is an honor to have the cover shot and feature story in the January issue of American Rifleman,” Casey Flack, CEO of IWI US commented. “The publication has a long and proud history serving our industry, as well as being the go to magazine for all things gun related for the past several generations. To hold the January position with the upcoming SHOT Show is indeed an honor and we thank and support the American Rifleman team for all the outstanding coverage they have given IWI US over the years.”
American Rifleman is the National Rifle Association’s flagship publication and is the largest firearm magazine in the world, covering everything from the newest products to historical firearms, and keeps its audience of over 5 million updated on political events pertaining to the Second Amendment.

The seven plus page article, written by American Rifleman Field Editor Jeremiah Knupp, draws readers into the history of the development of the platform that revolutionized modern weaponry: the AK rifle. It brings us into the Israel Defense Force where some of the world’s most relevant weapons systems are designed, engineered and truly battle tested. Complete with historic pictures, specifications, shooting results and product and performance evaluation, the article closes with former IWI US Vice President Michael Kassnar’s prediction that the Kalashnikov’s evolution through the Galil line is not yet finished, “IWI in Israel never stops looking for ways to make a platform better.”
The Galil ACE is the modern version of the original Galil rifle first developed in the 1960’s by IMI. Based upon the Russian AK-47 and the Finnish Valmet RD 62, the Galil ACE has never stopped evolving to meet the demand of today’s warriors. Some of the most recent upgrades include the left side operation of the charging handle, the LR/SR25 magazine compatibility, full length two-piece Picatinny style top rail and tri-rail forearms with built-in, slide-on and off rail covers with pressure switch access, fully adjustable iron sights with a Tritium front post and a side folding, adjustable, telescoping buttstock with two-position removable comb on all Galil models.
The Galil ACE is available as a rifle in 7.62 NATO and 7.62 x39mm and as a pistol in 7.62 NATO, 7.62x39mm and 5.56 NATO as a standalone pistol or with a Stabilizing brace. MSRP starts at $1,749.00.

Trailblazer Firearms’ LifeCard Named NRA Gun of the Week
The folding compact .22LR is reviewed by American Rifleman’s Christopher Olsen on NRA Gun of the Week video series.
Asheville, N.C. (January 2018) –Trailblazer® Firearms, innovators behind the LifeCard®, the .22 LR single-action, single-shot folding pistol, is pleased to announce that the LifeCard has been named the Dec. 30, 2017 NRA Gun of the Week and featured in the video series with host American Rifleman’s Christopher Olsen.
“It’s an honor for our small start-up company to gain the attention of the most prestigious Second Amendment rights organization in America, the NRA,” Aaron Voigt, president of Trailblazer Firearms and designer of the LifeCard, remarked. “You wouldn’t expect such a small utility gun to catch the attention of the firearms media, but the LifeCard certainly has. As unique as it is, in size, folding capability and weight, we are finding our customers are truly impressed with the quality machining and finishing of the gun, as well as its performance.”
Voigt, one of six kids, was raised to love the outdoors and respect the American tradition of firearms and hunting in the mountains near Asheville, North Carolina. At 18 he joined the USMC Reserve, M Battery, 14th Marine Regiment in Chattanooga, Tennessee and rose to the rank of Lance Corporal. In the early 1990’s, Voigt transferred inter-service to the Army for active duty and was deployed to Kuwait and advanced to Specialist E-4. After a stint in South Korea, Voigt separated from the military and returned his family to his beloved mountains where he shifted careers.
Always the gun enthusiast, in 2010 Voigt hit upon an idea of a unique pistol. The idea slowly became a dream and a long drawn out reality as Voigt tackled the jungle of patents, trademarks, prototyping, machining, licensing, marketing and more. After a seven-year incubation period, Voigt finally brought his “last gun you’ll leave behind” to market through Ellett Brothers and Jerry’s Sport Center.
“This diminutive back up pistol isn’t just a novelty item, it is a real functioning, single shot pistol that could just save your life. I’ve always been a proponent of .22 rimfire for backup and / or survival and this package makes a whole lot of sense to me,” commented Olsen in the video. “The LifeCard doesn’t seem like much and I think that is the real appeal here. All in all, it is a perfect pocketable combination.”
The LifeCard, at under seven ounces and only a half an inch thick, is just about the size of credit card when folded and features a discreet folded package that easily carries in a jean pocket or in any type of bag or pack. Unfolded, the LifeCard presents a full-size handle for a positive grip. With built in safety features, the LifeCard is totally safe to carry in its folded position.
“Host Christopher Olsen identified the LifeCard as a backup pistol,” Voigt continued. “And the LifeCard can be used as a backup and as an every-day carry for anyone. It’s a perfect utility tool for land owners, outdoorsmen and backpackers, offering that little extra protection in the outdoors.”

Trailblazer just added the LifeCard Leather Sleeve that is custom fit to the .22 LR LifeCard, made in the USA of 100 percent genuine leather in black, dark brown or worn saddle (light brown) and features the Trailblazer logo stamped on the front.
Trailblazer LifeCard Specifications:
- Caliber: .22LR
- Action: Single-Action, Single-Shot
- Length: 3.375 inches
- Height: 2.125 inches
- Width: 0.5 inches
- Weight: 6.65 oz.
- Barrel: Steel, Tilt-Up
- Frame: Aluminum (includes folding handle)
- Features: Ambidextrous, built-in safety features, ammo storage in handle for four rounds

Lyman Products Introduces the New Brass Smith All-American 8 Turret Press
Lyman, an innovator in the field of case preparation and reloading, has introduced the Brass Smith All-American 8™ Turret Press, the most feature-packed, rugged turret press on the market!
Middletown, Conn. (January 2018) – Lyman® Products is proud to introduce the New Brass Smith All-American 8™ Turret Press. The engineers at Lyman spent years considering turret press design and how to produce a quality turret press that was feature rich and increases the efficiency of reloading without having to handle the cases constantly.
The result is the extra-large 8 station turret which is machined out of heavy duty cast iron. It is equipped with an easily removed turret bolt which makes swapping turrets simple. The 8 die station turret is the largest available and will hold two complete 4 die sets or up to four 2 die sets. Below the turret is a rigid cast iron frame, housing a 1″ diameter ram and compound linkage.
The frame is large enough to work with even the longest rifle cartridges. Work the press handle and you will feel the tight precision fit and smooth operation. Unlike many competitive presses, the Brass Smith 8-Station Turret Press comes with a newly designed straight line primer feed that is completely reliable and simple to use. Simply push the priming arm forward at the bottom of the ram travel to position it beneath the shell holder. For added safety, the primer feed comes with a heavy steel shield which surrounds the primer tubes. The Brass Smith All-American 8 Turret Press is equipped with a comfortable ball handle which can be positioned for either right or left hand use. The Brass Smith 8-Station Turret Press is designed for use with any standard 7/8″x14 thread dies and accepts standard shell holders.
“Whether you are just beginning to reload ammunition or you are an experienced reloader, you’ll find that the All-American 8 Turret Press sets up easily and is faster than single stage presses. Best of all, the new Turret Press is USA made with incredibly high quality and great value,” Trevor Mullen, VP of Global Marketing and Business Development for Lyman Products, said.

“The genius behind the FULL CONCEAL M3 (Model 3) Pistol design is what the conceal carry market has been after for some time, being able to comfortably and practically conceal, as well as easily deploy, a full-sized pistol safely, all while providing more than standard ammunition capacity (firepower),” Laura Burgess, president of LBM explained. “We are looking forward to bringing these unique products into the general public, including the personal protection, outdoorsmen, survivalists’ markets and government sectors to give them an option to get the best of both worlds, exhibiting full concealability and maximized firepower.”

“FULL CONCEAL introduced its first product prototypes at the 2017 SHOT Show and debuted the M3 at TriggrCon, held this past July in Tacoma, Washington,” Mike Full, inventor, founder and CEO of FULL CONCEAL stated. “Since then, we have received tremendous interest and support throughout the firearms industry for our M3 folding semi-auto pistol. After a lengthy prototyping and testing period to develop a very safe, efficient and effective new firearm system, we began shipping the new M3 models to retailers in November of last year. We are looking forward to gaining more exposure through multiple markets and continuing to develop new and unparalleled products that provide our customers new options they would have never considered before with any other product.”

The concept of the folding semi-auto pistol was driven by a need to have all the benefits of a full-size pistol, including firepower and round count, yet still be a concealable pistol that is quick to deploy. While many conceal carry pistols compromise on caliber size, ammo capacity, grip control, sight picture, short barrel and recoil, the ingenious M3 design keeps all the benefits of a full-sized pistol, and further maximizes the ammo capacity to (21+1) rounds of 9mm, while keeping the entire weapon system to the footprint of an iPhone 7 Plus cell phone (approximately).
Intended for users to carry a live round in the chamber and be ready to deploy quickly ready to fire, the M3G19 has a proprietary folding trigger that provides an additional safety feature that mechanically prevents the M3G19 from discharging (with a live round in the chamber) while folded. FULL CONCEAL’s M3G19 for the GLOCK 19 is available for $1,399.00 MSRP.
“We have new products already in the works, all of them engineered to meet the demands of our public with focus on safety and reliability. We are looking forward to meeting distributors, retailers and the media at the upcoming SHOT Show in Las Vegas,” Full said.

Friday’s Shoot the Shit
It’s Friday and time for our weekly (most of the time) shoot the shit. Yep, 2017 is behind us and boy what a year it was, but 2018 is looking pretty good. This is our first Shoot the Shit in the new year, so let’s have a little fun with this thing!
For the new readers, a shoot the shit is an event that you all can participate in, even if you know nothing about the topics being discussed. You can make unsupported statements, use uncensored profanity, insult anyone you wish or change the subject altogether. It’s a great chance to vent without paying a jackass who studied a behavioral “science” solely so they could understand themselves. The perfect support for my jackass assertion is the Yale Psychiatrist professor who pronounced President Trump as mentally unfit, in absentia. Never met the man and he’s unfit?
Shame on the American Psychological and American Psychiatric Associations. These organizations should do a much better job of self-policing and enforcing professional standards. It’s like Anderson’s theory of anonymous therapy; far too many of these folks are not just inept, they’re also morons and should be excreted from the profession. Terrible!
So, let’s get started!
President Trump is pulling both parties together to work on immigration legislation. During the course of a televised meeting held on 9 January 2018, the President dips into his deal making quiver pulling out the “Earmark” arrow. Those of you familiar with the legislative process, earmarks are interchangeably called pork. The way pork works is you provide funding, or other incentive, benefitting a member or members of Congress, as part of a bill to get passage. Most members of Congress have moved away from that practice but today’s mention of that was undoubtedly an aphrodisiac to the Democrats. I propose that we draw from the Height-Ashbury days to rebrand the concept and call it”Makin Bacon.”
Moving right along, one of our readers sent us a joke we thought was pretty good…
Co-joined twins walk into a bar in Canada and park
themselves on a bar stool. One of them says to the bartender, “Don’t mind us; we’re joined at the hip.
I’m John, he’s Jim.
Two Molson Canadian beers, draft please.”
The bartender, feeling slightly awkward, tries to make polite
conversation while pouring the beers.
“Been on vacation yet, fellas?”“Off to England next month,” says John. “We go to England every
year, rent a car, and drive for miles and miles, don’t we, Jim?” Jim nods.
“Ah, England!” says the bartender. “Wonderful country. ..the history,
the culture, and especially the beer.”
“Nah, we don’t like that British crap”, says John. “Hamburgers and
Molson’s beer, that’s for us, eh Jim? And we can’t stand the English
people, they’re so arrogant and rude.”
“So why keep going to England?” asks the bartender.John replies: “Gives Jim a chance to drive…”
On to North Korea…
North Korea continues to be problematic, even with the NOKO / SOKO dialogue over the upcoming Olympics. It’s not my job, and I have total confidence in POTUS and his cabinet, but I worry about NOKO and where they are, currently, in the nuclear weapon and delivery system development. Dialogue with NOKO, reminds me of the hackneyed dating question “ Will you still respect me in the morning?”
The reality is that NOKO is holding SOKO hostage. The NOKO regime literally has a gun to SOKO’s head and any military action against NOKO could lead to thousands of SOKO lives lost. Think of what that number will look like if instead of artillery a nuclear tipped missile is involved. NOKO also understands that any attack on SOKO would result in the destruction of the NOKO regime. The classic Mexican Standoff! It’s important to understand that allowing NOKO to move forward with their development also places our ability to respond at risk.
To be effective, NOKO need only detonate a nuclear device 500km above the earth’s surface to impact the United States, coast-to-coast, with a High Altitude Electromagnetic Pulse. The EMP would likely put out of commission commercial and military satellite earth stations as well as damage some of the lower layer space assets.
Our most important tool in dealing with NOKO and their nuclear weapon development is their own fear of regime change. It is a high risk game but if unaddressed it only gets worse.
For your reading enjoyment, I’ve provided an excerpt from “Threats to United States Space Capabilities” by Tom Wilson, Space Commission Staff Member.
“…The detonation of a nuclear weapon at high altitude (above 20-50 km)(26) will produce two devastating effects. The first is High Altitude Electromagnetic Pulse (HEMP), principally of concern to the satellite’s ground segment. Second would be a significant increase in the level of LEO ambient radiation, enough to severely damage nearby satellites and shorten the lifetimes of satellites in LEO from years to months or less.
The detonation of a nuclear weapon at high altitude (above 20-50 km)(26) will produce two devastating effects.
The HEMP signal from a high altitude nuclear burst propagates through the line of sight of the burst. The propagation manifests itself in the form of fairly large magnetic fields over very large areas. For example, detonating a multi-megaton thermonuclear weapon at 100 km over Omaha, Nebraska would cover a circular region with a diameter stretching from Kentucky to Colorado. If the altitude were increased to 500km, the entire continental U.S. would be covered by the HEMP electric field. The effect of the HEMP signal is to cause significant upset, degradation and permanent damage to electrical systems. The extent of the damage depends on weapon yield and design, burst altitude and the characteristics of the exposed electronic equipment. (27)
From the perspective of the ground segment, HEMP is the principal concern from a high altitude nuclear detonation. However, satellites in line-of-sight of the detonation will also feel some effects. Direct radiation can upset or damage satellite electronics and other components. This situation occurs when electrons produced by the nuclear explosion penetrate the interior of the satellite and deposit their charge, building up large electric fields on dielectrics, including printed circuit boards, solar cell cover slips and thermal control materials (paints, thermal blankets or second surface mirrors). These fields eventually may exceed the breakdown strength of the material and cause a discharge to occur. Energy from the discharge can couple directly into electronic components and cause upset or burnout.(28)”
Let’s Talk about Oprah!
You may have heard all the chatter coming out of the recent Golden Globe Awards; specifically, the idea that Oprah Winfrey was going to be running for President against Donald Trump in 2020. The media and entertainment industry salivary glands shifted into high speed, but here is what’s wrong with that concept.
As a Department head, one of the difficulties I had to deal with was the concept of banded, or tier, compensation schedules. In order for me to increase an employee’s salary, I had to promote them. The net effect of this guideline is that I ended elevating an exceptional technician into a poor supervisor or line manager. The same holds true for Oprah. She is an accomplished individual and a great philanthropist, why would you want to promote her to poor politician. the world needs more Oprah(s) as she is today!

Savage Arms Expands Its Extensive Lineup of Rifles Targeting Left-Handed Shooters

WESTFIELD, Massachusetts – January 10, 2018 – Savage Arms is pleased to expand its already extensive catalog of firearms geared to left-handed shooters with the release of additional options in centerfire target, hunting and rimfire rifles. Savage Arms will launch the new southpaw-friendly models at the 2018 SHOT Show (Booth No. 14451) January 23-26 at the Sands Expo Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
“One of the keys to Savage Arms achieving an impressive stronghold in the firearms industry over the past two decades has been the company’s ability to dominate niche markets,” said firearms senior brand manager Jessica Treglia. “Savage’s ever-expanding selection of left-handed firearms is an excellent example of this strategy in action.
“Research reports approximately 10 percent of Americans are left-handed,” Treglia continued. “Then there are those who are right-handed, but left-eye dominant. These hunters and shooters greatly benefit from a left-handed firearm, and Savage is proud to supply them with dependable and accurate left-handed choices.”
On the precision-chassis rifle front, Savage introduces the new left-handed Model 10/110 BA Stealth and Stealth Evolution. Both feature a heavy fluted barrel with a monolithic aluminum chassis popular among long-range precision shooters.
Both models also feature Savage’s zero-tolerance, thread-in headspacing, user-adjustable AccuTrigger and 5R button rifling, and produce sub-MOA accuracy at extreme ranges, out of the box. The rifles are available in some of the hottest calibers in long-range shooting, including 338 Lapua Mag., 300 Win. Mag. 6.5 Creedmoor, 308 Win. and 223 Rem. The Stealth Evolution is also available in 6mm Creedmoor.
“Savage didn’t forget left-handed hunters,” Treglia noted. “The upgraded Model 110 Storm is available in a left-handed configuration. It is built off the same 110 action as the past but now features the all-new user-adjustable AccuFit system, which allows shooters to customize comb height and length-of-pull for better fit and function.”
The Model 110 Storm also features a detachable box magazine, stainless steel action and stainless steel matte-finish barrel to withstand the most brutal weather conditions. The left-handed version comes in 223 Rem., 22-250 Rem., 243 Win., 270 Win., 7mm-08 Rem., 7mm Rem. Mag., 308 Win., 30-06 Sprg. and 300 Win. Mag.
“The Model 110 Tactical also comes in a left-handed 308 Win.,” she continued. “It is suppressor-ready and fitted with a heavy, fluted, 24-inch barrel, ideal for extreme accuracy in all conditions.”
Savage adds to its rimfire family with left-handed versions of the B17 17 HMR, B22 22 LR and B22 22 WMR bolt-action rimfire rifles. “All feature a sporter barrel and black synthetic stock,” said Treglia. “The B Series’ ergonomic stock, higher comb, top tang safety and target-style, vertical pistol grip allow shooters to hold the rifle in a more natural position that puts less pressure on the wrist.”
Like the popular A Series rimfires, all B Series rifles feature a 10-round rotary magazine and the accuracy-boosting adjustable AccuTrigger. The B Series also features Savage’s accuracy-boosting zero-tolerance, thread-in headspace system similar to that of the company’s centerfire models.

STREAMLIGHT® LAUNCHES POLYTAC® X FLASHLIGHT
New Tactical Light Features High Lumens, Multiple Battery Options
EAGLEVILLE, PA, January 9, 2018 – Streamlight® Inc., a leading provider of high-performance lighting and weapon light/laser sighting devices, announced it has added a new model to its PolyTac® line of tactical lights to include an enhanced, dual fuel version. The new light, the PolyTac® X, features 600 lumens, and offers the versatility of a rechargeable battery option.
The light can be powered by either two 3-volt CR123 lithium batteries or one Streamlight rechargeable 18650 lithium ion battery. This multi-battery option allows for use of primary disposable batteries if the rechargeable cell is out of power.
“With its battery versatility and powerful lumen rating, the new PolyTac X is among the brightest and most adaptable polymer tactical lights on the market today,” said Streamlight Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Michael F. Dineen. “It is ideal for everything from conducting searches in low light to lighting up an outdoor trail to repairing equipment. Even when a charging source is not available, you can use disposable batteries, ensuring that you will never run out of power in any situation.”
The PolyTac X uses a power LED to provide three lighting modes: high, medium, low, and strobe. Regardless of battery source, the light delivers 600 lumens on high, 11,485 candela, and a 205-meter beam distance, which is enough to provide critical lighting for a range of tactical uses. When using CR123A batteries, run times range from 2.75 to 34 hours; when using the 18650 battery, they range from 3.5 to 36 hours. On the strobe setting, run times are 5.5 hours and 8 hours, respectively.
The light’s TEN-TAP® programmable push-button switch allows users to select from three programs: high/strobe/low (factory default); high only or low/medium/high.
The PolyTac X is exceptionally durable, featuring a case made of high impact super tough nylon polymer that also provides a sure grip. It weighs 4.34 ounces and measures 5.46 inches.
The new light features an IPX7-rated design, providing waterproof operation to 1 meter for 30 minutes, and is impact-resistant tested to 3 meters. It is available in black, yellow, or coyote.
Streamlight offers an optional 18650 Battery Charger that can recharge either one or two batteries simultaneously, and permits charging through either AC/DC or USB power sources.
The PolyTac X has an MSRP of $75.00. It is packaged with two CR123 batteries and a removable pocket clip and comes with Streamlight’s Limited Lifetime warranty.

Sirois has designed knives for celebrities, including designing an ax for Hakim Isler to use on a challenge during “Naked and Afraid.”

TANDEMKROSS Introduces Steel Compensator for Shooting Sports
WEARE, N.H. – In rimfire competition, milliseconds can mean the difference between a winning and losing string, and an effective compensator can give you a winning edge.
TANDEMKROSS, a top manufacturer of aftermarket accessories for rimfire pistols and rifles, is pleased to announce the release of the new stainless steel “Game Changer PRO” Compensator, a high-performance upgrade for Ruger® MK Series, Ruger® 10/22, SW22® Victory™, Browning Buck Mark and other ½ x 28 threaded barrels.
The “Game Changer PRO” steel compensator adds weight to the front of the pistol for better balance and more accuracy. The compensator vents gases up and away from the gun at 45-degree angles for better visibility and control, and reduces muzzle rise to improve speed when moving between targets.
“The ‘Game Changer PRO’ ups the quality and durability over the original ‘Game Changer’ compensator,” said TANDEMKROSS Product Development Director Jake Wyman. “Our customers asked for a compensator that was steel and easier to clean and we’ve given them what they asked for with the creation of the ‘Game Changer PRO’.”
The “Game Changer PRO” is available in raw stainless steel or a proprietary easy-clean coating black finish. The easy-clean coating makes compensator maintenance simple, while the raw steel compensator allows the user to use tougher solvents and cleaners without damaging the compensator.
The “Game Changer PRO” is easy to install and fits any standard ½ x 28 threaded barrels.

Lyman® Products New Brass Smith Victory™ Press, the Workhorse for the Reloading Bench
Visit Lyman® Products, booth # 12724 at the 2018 SHOT Show.
Super sturdy, the Victory™ Press features a newly designed straight line primer feed.
Middletown, Conn. (January 2018) – Lyman® Products introduces the must-have new Brass Smith Victory™ Press, the foundational press for every reloader’s bench. Built on a heavy duty cast iron “O” frame with an added 1-inch diameter ram and compound linkage, the Victory Press is one of the most rugged and rigid available on the market.
Unlike many competitive presses, the Victory Press features a newly designed straight line primer feed that is totally reliable and very simple to use. By simply pushing the priming arm forward at the bottom of the ram travel to position it beneath the shell holder, the user will experience a tight, precise and smooth operation. As an added safety feature, the primer feed comes with a heavy steel shield that surrounds the primer tubes. A large 5-inch frame opening makes even the largest magnum calibers easy to load. The easy to grip ball handle can be positioned for either right or left hand use. Finished with a durable powder coat finish, the Lyman New Brass Smith Single Stage Press is the ideal press for beginners to the more seasoned reloader.
“It has been a while since Lyman Products introduced new presses, for the very simple reason that our presses are built to be so durable that they actually end up being handed down in families,” Trevor Mullen, VP of Global Marketing and Business Development for Lyman Products, said. “But for 2018, we decided we needed to add certain features that make these new presses even better than their former models. Our new presses, like the Victory Press, will give the casual or serious reloader years and years of operational satisfaction, with built in safety confidence and a wide range of potential calibers to produce.”
Lyman Brass Smith Victory Press Specifications:
- Heavy duty cast iron “O” frame
- Designed for use with any standard 7/8″ x 14 thread dies
- Accepts standard shell holders

Federal Premium Launches All-New Syntech Action Pistol Ammunition, Partners with USPSA

ANOKA, Minnesota – January 8, 2018 – Federal Premium’s all-new Syntech Action Pistol ammunition helps competitive action sports shooters stay on top of their game. The clean-burning, hard-hitting and extremely accurate ammunition offers a variety of benefits that make it a perfect choice for fast-paced, high-volume competition shooting. Federal Premium will launch Syntech Action Pistol at the 2018 SHOT Show (Booth No. 14551) January 23-26 at the Sands Expo Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
“Syntech Action Pistol utilizes all the same technology as the standard Syntech ammunition but is tailored specifically to the competitive pistol application,” said John Swenson, Federal Premium handgun ammunition design engineer. “During extended matches, the reduced fouling and cooler gun temperatures allow competitors to keep their focus on their performance and the match rather than equipment maintenance.”
The new bullets and loads are also designed to produce the least possible felt recoil while meeting power factor requirements and cycling reliably. “Reduced recoil in time-sensitive events means less muzzle rise and less time required for follow-up shots,” Swenson said. “That means more consistent hits and lower stage-completion times.”
Syntech Action Pistol builds off the success of original Syntech technology, which replaces standard copper jacketing with an exclusive polymer-encapsulated bullet. Syntech’s Total Synthetic Jacket (TSJ) prevents metal-on-metal contact between bullet and barrel, eliminating copper and lead fouling while reducing damaging heat and friction, thereby reducing cleaning chores and extending barrel life.
“Syntech Action Pistol offers even better performance for competitive handgunners,” said Swenson. “It features the same TSJ but is loaded to competition power-factor requirements. Its heavy, flatter-nose bullets provide more reliable knock-downs on steel targets in competition and drastically reduce splash-back.”
The nose design also helps competitors shooting paper targets. “The flatter nose provides a larger-diameter perforation, making scoring clearer for hits that are near the edge of scoring zones rather than having to rely on the grease ring,” Swenson explained.
In addition, Syntech Action Pistol uses clean-burning powders that minimize barrel residue, and its Catalyst lead-free primer provides consistent, reliable ignition.
Federal Premium offers Syntech Action Pistol in 9mm Luger, 40 S&W and 45 Auto. Designers configured the loads to meet the accuracy, reliability and power factor requirements of shooters who compete in the International Practice Shooting Confederation (IPSC) and United States Practical Shooting Association (USPSA).
“Until the creation of Syntech Action Pistol, reloading was the preferred way to meet these needs,” said Swenson. “With our factory-loaded ammunition, shooters have a simple, convenient and better solution.”
Federal Premium recently signed on as sponsor of the USPSA, and Syntech Action Pistol is the official sponsored ammo of the organization, with their logo on the box.
“We’re proud to be the first major ammunition manufacturer to enter this exciting arena,” said Justin Johnson, Federal Premium product line manager. “USPSA shooters demand very specific things from their ammunition. It needs to be accurate, consistent, reliable, and meet power-factor requirements. Until our launch of Syntech Action Pistol, reloading was the preferred way to achieve all of the above. With our factory-loaded ammunition, shooters have a simple, convenient and better solution.”

VIRIDIAN® TESTIFIES AT PUBLIC HEARINGS AS WEAPON-MOUNTED CAMERA (WMC) PILOT PROGRAMS BEGIN
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – January 8, 2018 –FACT Duty™ Weapon-Mounted Cameras (WMCs™) are now in the hands of local, state and international agencies as the first round of pilot programs is underway. In support of these programs, Viridian Weapon Technologies recently testified at two public hearings regarding the implementation of WMCs.
Viridian has created an entirely new category for handguns and law enforcement with the introduction of the FACT™ camera. The highly advanced WMC employs a 1080p full-HD digital camera with a microphone and 500 lumen tactical light. Designed exclusively to answer the needs of duty officers, the FACT camera provides an unobstructed view between the gun’s muzzle and subject, overcoming an inherent limitation with body camera products.
“We are pleased with our progress on the project and early results with law enforcement,” said Viridian President and CEO Brian Hedeen. “Our pilot program has been adopted by several agencies across the nation and internationally—and many more have signed up to kick off in the near future. Getting FACT Duty into the hands of officers and allowing departments large and small to test WMCs themselves is a huge step. We now have the validation and real-time feedback that our products perform and meet the evolving needs of today’s law enforcement personnel.”
Viridian has sent units to multiples states, and those products are currently being used as part of specifically-designed pilot programs and testing and evaluation processes. States and municipalities have widely varying guidelines, requirements and procedures for implementing WMCs, including requirements for device-use policies and public comment and hearings prior to adopting the equipment. Recently, Viridian was compelled to testify at two public hearings for agencies in its home state of Minnesota. General Counsel, Matthew Plowman, represented the company and presented data and information to help facilitate getting these products in the hands of officers.
“The need for Weapon-Mounted Cameras in law enforcement is real,” said Plowman. “Our chance to testify at two recent public hearings has helped us convey this message. In a number of recent high-profile officer involved shootings, there have been multiple views of incidents from body or dash cams—and even cell phones. However, often times, the critical moments of the confrontation are not clearly captured.
“FACT Duty WMCs are tools to provide additional objective evidence both for potential legal proceedings and for police communication to the general public to help reduce the uncertainty in officer-involved shootings that fuels so much conflict.”
Viridian’s proprietary INSTANT-ON® technology automatically activates the camera and microphone whenever the officer draws the firearm from its holster. Not only does this eliminate risk of failure to manually turn on the camera during a critical event, but it also keeps the officer from fumbling with cumbersome equipment. All three FACT models—including the FACT DUTY™,FACT COMPACT™ and FACT MICRO™—come fully equipped with Viridian’s patented INSTANT-ON® technology.
Law enforcement agencies interested in signing up for pilot programs or learning more about this product can contact sales@ViridianWeaponTech.com. Information on FACT cameras and the entire line of Viridian products can be found at www.ViridianWeaponTech.com.
