LAS VEGAS — On the heels of the recent and extremely successful 2018 SHOT Show, the National Shooting Sports Foundation® (NSSF®) and Sands Expo have announced a two-year extension of their current agreement, which will keep the Shooting, Hunting and Outdoor Trade Show at the Sands Expo through 2027.

“Las Vegas and the Sands Expo have been strong venues for the SHOT Show for nine consecutive years and are counted among the reasons for the show’s success,” said Chris Dolnack, Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer of NSSF, owner of the show. “With this two-year extension, we look forward to bringing SHOT Show — the city’s fifth largest trade show — back to these venues for years to come.”

Chris Meyer, Vice President of Sales at the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA), said, “Las Vegas is experiencing record growth when it comes to business travel, and the trade show industry is a critical component to the destination’s continued success. We value the relationships we’ve built with our industry partners and look forward to continuing our work with the National Shooting Sports Foundation in the years ahead.”

Chandra Allison, Senior Vice President of Sales for The Venetian, The Palazzo and Sands Expo, said, “We are pleased to have maintained a long-term relationship with the National Shooting Sports Foundation. Trade shows like theirs are an important part of our business and the Las Vegas economy overall as they bring business travelers who stay in our hotels, eat in our restaurants and provide jobs for our community.”

The 2018 SHOT Show attracted more than 60,000 attendees and more than 2,000 companies during its January 23-26 run. The show is open to trade professionals only and not to the general public.

The new agreement caps a big year for SHOT Show, which marked its 40th anniversary overall, 20thyear in Las Vegas and ninth straight year at the Sands Expo.

According to LVCVA, the overall economic impact of the 2018 SHOT Show to Las Vegas was $127.2 million, bringing the cumulative economic impact of the show to the city to $1.1 billion.

Comp-Tac Victory Gear’s Push Button Locking mount (PLM)

Comp-Tac Victory Gear, LLC, Houston, TX, February, 2018 Comp-Tac Victory Gear’s Push Button Locking mount (PLM) is a handy, low-cost item that attaches a holster or accessory pouches to a belt quickly and easily.

Image shows shooter’s body side of closed PLM. Gear attachment holes are seen trough stress relief slots. Horizontal slots are for secure belt width attachment. Hinged at top and release button at bottom. Simply attach to holster or pouches, loop over belt and close.

How!

The PLM is a gizmo that helps to answer the question: “How to attach your holster or various gear and magazine pouches to your belt in a few seconds?” The PLM solves having to feed your belt through various loops, or paddles that pop off when you try to draw your gun.
The PLM opens with a hinge, like a clam. You attach your holster or gear to the PLM with screws. To then use simply clamp the PLM over your belt, close and you are done. No pinching, no prying, no special tools. Just open, mount on belt and close.

The PLM has a 9-hole pattern that mounts to Comp-Tac Holsters (International and QB), magazine pouches (both pistol and rifle), light holders and even these same items of some other brands. The nine screw positions make it easy to fine tune forward or rearward cant to meet shooter’s needs. Different size belt? The PLM’s internal adjustment bar and locking slots keeps belts sized between 1 inch and 1.75 inches wide both stable and centered.

But why?

Well, the PLM can save time and wear and tear on a belt, and makes quick switching for range or tactical preparation quick, easy and efficient.

For example, three-gun competitors can go to the line with magazine pouches for their handgun, rifle and shotgun attached to their belts by PLMs. Then if they are in a subsequent single-gun event, they can detach the unneeded pouches with one hand – and do so without removing or even unbuckling their belt. No muss, no fuss, and fast, too.
For some types of law enforcement mission specific situations the quick removal or addition of certain belt gear might also prove advantageous.

Remington Reaches a Deal With Its Creditors That Allows It to Go Into Chapter 11 Reorganization

Image result for Remington armsDSC_2514

The Remington Arms Company, has reached a deal with its creditors that will allow the Company to continue operations during the bankruptcy procedure. The Company, who filled for Chapter 11 reorganization, will emerge fully recapitalized with a much lower debt load.

Reuters Reports

(Reuters) – Remington Outdoor Company Inc., one of the largest U.S. makers of firearms, said on Monday it had reached a deal with its creditors to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy to slash its $950 million debt load.

FILE PHOTO: People look over Remington rifles and shotguns during the annual SHOT (Shooting, Hunting, Outdoor Trade) Show in Las Vegas January 15, 2013. REUTERS/Las Vegas Sun/Steve Marcus

The planned bankruptcy filing follows a decline in sales at the armsmaker, in part because of receding fears that guns will become more heavily regulated by the U.S. government, according to credit ratings agencies.

U.S. President Donald Trump has said he will “never, ever infringe on the right of the people to keep and bear arms.” Since Trump’s election victory in November 2016, American Outdoor Brands Corp has lost almost two thirds of its stock market value, while Sturm Ruger & Company Inc. has fallen by a quarter. By comparison, the S&P 500 has increased by a quarter in the same period.

Remington said it will receive $145 million in bankruptcy financing to fund the company through the Chapter 11 process. Remington plans to file bankruptcy in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Delaware, seeking to write off about $700 million in debt.

Cerberus Capital Management LP, the private equity firm that controls Remington, will lose ownership of the company as a result of the bankruptcy. The company’s creditors, which include Franklin Templeton Investments and JPMorgan Asset Management, will exchange their debt holdings for equity in the company.

Business operations including employee wages and benefits and payments to trade creditors will continue as usual through the bankruptcy, the company said.

“We have an outstanding collection of brands and products, the unqualified support of a vibrant community across the industry, and a deep and powerful culture. We will emerge from this process with a deleveraged balance sheet and ample liquidity, positioning Remington to compete more aggressively and to seize future growth opportunities,” Remington Chief Executive Officer Anthony Acitelli said in a statement.

Reuters had reported last week that Remington was looking for financing to file for bankruptcy. [nL8N1PZ001]

Remington was abandoned by some of its investors after one of its Bushmaster rifles was used in the Sandy Hook elementary school shooting in Connecticut in 2012 that killed 20 children and six adults.

After the shooting, Cerberus tried unsuccessfully to sell Remington, then known as Freedom Group, after coming under pressure from some of its private equity fund investors.

Cerberus Chief Executive Stephen Feinberg also considered a bid for Remington to stoke interest in the gunmaker from other potential acquirers, Reuters reported in 2012. In 2015, Cerberus offered a mechanism to its fund investors that wanted to drop Remington, such as the California State Teachers’ Retirement System, to sell their stakes back to the company.

The families of the victims at Sandy Hook also sued Remington. That case is ongoing.

Remington’s sales plunged 27 percent in the first nine months of 2017, resulting in a $28 million operating loss.

Colt’s Manufacturing Co LLC, a competitor of Remington, emerged from bankruptcy in 2016 following falling sales of its sports rifles and the loss of military contracts.

L.L. Bean Ends Its Lifetime Return Policy

Image result for LL Bean

Responding to want appears consumer abuse, LL. Bean , in an open Facebook letter, terminates the company’s lifetime return policy.

A Letter to Our Customers,

Since 1912, our mission has been to sell high-quality products that inspire and enable people to enjoy the outdoors. Our commitment to customer service has earned us your trust and respect, as has our guarantee, which ensures that we stand behind everything we sell.

Increasingly, a small, but growing number of customers has been interpreting our guarantee well beyond its original intent. Some view it as a lifetime product replacement program, expecting refunds for heavily worn products used over many years. Others seek refunds for products that have been purchased through third parties, such as at yard sales.

Based on these experiences, we have updated our policy. Customers will have one year after purchasing an item to return it, accompanied by proof of purchase. After one year, we will work with our customers to reach a fair solution if a product is defective in any way.

This update adds clarity to our policy and will only affect a small percentage of returns. It will also ensure we can continue to honor one of the best guarantees in retail, with no impact for the vast majority of our customers. To learn more, please view our full return policy at llbean.com.

L.L.Bean has stood for quality, service, trust, and getting people outdoors ever since my great-grandfather founded our company over 100 years ago – and that will never change. Thank you for being a loyal customer and we look forward to continuing to inspire and enable you to Be an Outsider.

Sincerely,
Shawn O. Gorman

Lyman® Products Celebrates 140 Years of Providing Innovative Products for Shooters, designed by Shooters.

In 1878, William Lyman invented the Lyman Tang Sight to correct the problems associated with gun sights of his day, and the Lyman Gunsight Company was born. 140 years later, Lyman Products Corporation continues his legacy by employing a team, many of whom are shooters and reloaders themselves, dedicated to the goal of developing and producing products to improve the shooting and reloading experience for their customers.

Middletown, Conn. (January 2018) – The proud tradition and history of Lyman Products began simply in the late 1800’s when William Lyman, an avid outdoorsman and inventor, created a product that resolved problems with gun sights of his day. The commonly used vernier sights were adequate for daytime shooting, but almost useless if lighting was not perfect. Lyman’s No. 1 Tang Sight featured a small disc and a large aperture, a combination that made the thin rim almost invisible and greatly improved the shooter’s ability to shoot quickly and accurately. His patented design launched the Lyman Gun Sight Company, and today, the Lyman tang and receiver sights still utilize the same principles originated over 137 years ago to enhance both the sight picture and the speed of aiming.

Through the years, Lyman has continued to develop innovative products for shooters and reloaders, carrying on the legacy of William Lyman. In 1925, the Lyman family purchased Ideal reloading products, which included the well-known Ideal reloading handbooks. Since then, Lyman handbooks have become known as the “bible” of reloading, and are considered the most trusted source for data. Lyman released its 50th Edition Reloading Handbook in 2016, containing new and modern reloading data to service current and future reloaders, and continuing to be the most respected and sought out source of expertise. Always keeping abreast of current trends in the shooting sports industry, this year, Lyman addresses the fast-growing sport of Long Range Shooting and the specific reloading challenges that it presents, in the new Long Range Precision Rifle Reloading Handbook.

Lyman reloading kits, presses and dies have provided generations of reloaders with all the high-quality equipment they need to start reloading and to pass down this hobby to the next generation of shooters. In conjunction with the 140th birthday in 2018, Lyman has released a whole new line of reloading presses and reloading kits. This line features a press for every need, from the Ideal C-Frame press that is perfect for beginners, or as a companion press for experienced reloaders, to the Victory Single Stage Press, to the All-American 8, the only 8-stage turret press on the market. All of these presses are proudly made in the USA, and feature solid cast-iron bodies and all of the features and quality that customers have come to expect from a Lyman product.

Over the years, Lyman has acquired several other brands to address other needs of their shooting audience. In 1996, the world-renowned Pachmayr brand came on board, bringing leadership in recoil pads and handgun grips. TacStar joined Lyman in 1997 to improve the company’s offering to the tactical and law enforcement markets. Introduced in 1999, “Butch’s Bore Shine”, took the competitive shooting market by storm, and by 2000, was in such demand that Butch joined forces with Lyman Products to promote and distribute this revolutionary gun-cleaning product to shooters worldwide. The patented line of A-Zoom precision metal snap caps were originally introduced to the market in 2000 and joined the Lyman family in 2002 to meet the growing demand for high quality training rounds for shooters, hunters, law enforcement professionals and the military. Peterson Instant Targets, the originator of the adhesive fluorescent target, joined Lyman as Targ-Dots in the early 1990’s. Trius Traps had already established an enviable 45-year reputation before it became a Lyman brand in 2003. Lyman and our stable of brands continue to place the greatest emphasis on input from our customers and from our own staff of shooters to create and provide innovative products for our sport.

“Brands That Perform” means something here at Lyman. Performance means more than just getting the job done. It means delivering value while advancing technology. Most importantly, it means listening to the needs of shooters and reloaders. In fact, the development of our products is most often directly linked to the feedback we get from our customers and the retailers who supply them. Whether pioneering the use of digital technology in reloading tools or reintroducing “antique” calibers and bullet molds, Lyman continues to improve and innovate the tools and accessories used by serious shooters and reloaders.

Lyman is proud to be celebrating 140 years in the shooting industry, and looking forward to many more years to come.

STREAMLIGHT® INTRODUCES DUALIE WAYPOINT®

High-Performance Area Light Offers Individual or Combined Spot and Flood Lighting

EAGLEVILLE, PA, February 9, 2018 – Streamlight® Inc., a leading provider of high-performance lighting, introduced the Dualie Waypoint®, a high performance spot and area light that allows for individual or simultaneous use of a forward-facing spot beam for distance and a bottom-facing flood light. The alkaline battery-powered light, which delivers up to 750 lumens, combines the best of two popular Streamlight products – the Dualie® dual-function LED flashlight and the Waypoint® pistol-grip searchlight.

First responders, industrial professionals, and outdoor enthusiasts alike will appreciate the Dualie Waypoint’s flexible options, whether using it for illuminating low-lit pathways or performing close-up tasks.  And combining both the spot and flood beams can help users to see what is ahead and around them so they can avoid slips, trips and falls.

“The Dualie meets the Waypoint in this all-purpose tool that can be used for virtually every long-range and close-up lighting need,” said Streamlight Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Michael F. Dineen. “Users can choose between an ultra-bright spot light or a flood light with a soft, wide beam to meet their distance and area lighting needs, or combine them to optimize navigation and eliminate blind spots. VORTEX OPTICS RAZOR AMG UH-1 HOLOGRAPHIC SIGHT

DSC_2477

The Vortex RAZOR AMG UH-1 is an impressive reflex sight. There are a number of features that support that position.

  1. The sight ships with an Integrated Mount QD Picatinny mount.
  2. The lenses are shatter and scratchproof.
  3. There is now visible light signature. One of the issues associated with red dot sights is that an opposing force using NVDs can detect your LED thus compromising your position. I have not tested for that but Vortex claims it has eliminated a visible sight picture.
  4. The sight can be powered by a standard CR123A or a rechargeable variant. The LFP123A rechargeable battery recharges via the sights micro USB port.
  5. 100 MOA of wind and elevation in .5 MOA increments.
  6. Ergonomics is excellent as well. All controls are rear facing so they are very easy to operate.
  7. The reticle design improves on the circle dot designs.

Be sure to check this sight out, it has a great many things going for it; not to mention Vortex’s reputation for product support.

Morphix Technologies® Announces its TraceX® Explosive Detection Kit is Compatible with Bomb Squad Robots

The TraceX® collector works with any Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) or bomb squad robot that has an arm and claw, keeping the user a safe distance from the suspect material.

Virginia Beach, Va. (February 2018)Morphix Technologies®, an innovator in the science of detection devices for dangerous chemicals, announces its TraceX® Explosive Detection Kit can be paired with any Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) and bomb squad robots that have an arm and claw to detect all the major families of explosive materials and their precursors, keeping military, law enforcement and first responders a safe distance from suspect material.

The TraceX Explosive Detection Kit is a colorimetric kit (works through color change) and has several advantages over electronic detectors when used with a robot. Electronic detectors require specialized training, a large budget, regular maintenance and are often fragile. Using one with a robot is also difficult and often requires extensive technical collaboration between the robot manufacturer and the explosive detector manufacturer. While there are a number of colorimetric explosive kit tests for use in the field, most of these kits are not compatible for use with a robot.

TraceX Explosive Detection Kit

For instance, some colorimetric kits are simple chemical droppers, which cannot be easily handled by a robot. Other colorimetric kits have a flexible swab to collect a sample, but most robots are not able to grab and manipulate these swabs. Morphix Technologies’ TraceX Explosive Detection Kits have none of these disadvantages and are easy-to-use, colorimetric, light-weight, inexpensive and durable. See a comparison of the different types of field colorimetric explosive detection kits:https://www.morphtec.com/tracex/comparison/.

The TraceX Explosive Detection Kit is designed to help identify bombers, bomb-makers and their bomb-making facilities. This inexpensive kit can fit into a pocket and, once deployed, can detect most common explosive materials and their precursors at trace levels in a single test.

To use the TraceX Explosive Detection Kit with a robot, the technician simply needs to follow these steps:

  • At a safe distance from the suspect material, the technician simply closes the claw on the TraceX handle.
  • The technician then maneuvers the robot toward the suspect material, and moves the arm to collect a sample using the TraceX collector.
  • The robot is then returned to the technician, who removes the collector and operates the kit.

The TraceX Explosive Detection Kit uses a simple color-change alert system. A single color indicates the presence of a particular family of explosive material. It was developed by Morphix Technologies under contract from the U.S. Department of Defense and meets their demanding requirements. It is small enough to fit in a cargo pocket, lightweight and rugged. Each kit comes in its own disposable protective plastic case, so the handler will be ready to use it when needed, and can support a two-year (24 months) shelf life when stored at room temperature. The innovative collection system protects the sample from user contamination, providing confidence in the results. While it is sensitive enough to be used for trace explosives, it may also be used for bulk detection.

The TraceX Explosive Detection Kit is available in boxes of five kits (request part number 510100). If you’d like to receive more information regarding the TraceX Explosive Detection Kit, please contact Morphix Technologies toll free at 800-808-2234 or locally at 757-431-2260. Israeli-Based Israeli Military Industries Develops New Armor Piercing Match 5.56 Round That Outperforms M80 7.62 x 51 mm

Related image

IMI Systems’ Small Caliber Ammunition Division, the rounds manufacturer,  claims their new 5.56 APM combines the features of the 5.56mm and 7.62mm rounds.

The ammunition is claimed to have enhanced accuracy and penetration capabilities, making it a suitable replacement option for the 7.62mm round. The new 5.56mm APM round is of the FMJ-BT Hard Core APHC type with a projectile weight of 73 grains and cartridge weight of 12.9 g. Extensive ballistic testing demonstrated the APM round to be 30% more accurate than the 7.62mm M80 at a range of 550m. When fired on a NATO 3.4mm steel plate, the new round achieved 100% penetration up to 800 meters.

IMI says that the breakthrough development was achieved by a new bullet design, the type of powder used, and the way the bullet is inserted into its shell casing. A new type of primer was also used in the development process.

Your Trade Deficit Dollar At Work

The following aerial imagery was leaked to the Philippine news media. They show Chinese activity currently underway in the South China Sea ( Lat. 16.32° Long. 111.92° ). You’re looking at Chinese manmade atolls in international waters, which they claim as sovereign Chinese territory.

You’ll also note that China is not building beach resorts, spas or vacation garden spots, they’re building forward military bases to advance the country’s dominance of the Asia Pacific Rim. The country is able to do that  through its aggressive economic strategy, which is part and parcel with the country’s military plans. Revenues from a huge U.S. trade imbalance and E.U. trade imbalance with China is paying for that.

China’s unwillingness to bring North Korea to heal is a subset of its Asia Pacific strategy to dominate the region, and until the U.S. and E.U. get serious about reducing these trade deficits you will see a Chinese posture that is increasingly belligerent.

North Korea, has a gun to South Korea’s head. North Korean artillery has the potential to inflict thousands of casualties on South Korea – pretty high stakes. But, imagine how much higher those stakes will be when NOKO can deliver a nuclear payload? Sadly, the present South Korean government is weak in the knees; to be fair, not without cause. But, it’s time to face the stark reality that it will only become worse, all of which plays to China’s regional strategy.

Parabon® Announces Major Upgrade to Snapshot® Forensic DNA Service for Distant Kinship Inference

Improved DNA Test Offers Powerful New Avenue for Forensic Investigations

ee7fd195-0c2b-4129-86b7-5e0438686bb5Reston, Va. (6 Feb 2018) – Today, Parabon® NanoLabs (Parabon) announced a significant update to the company’s Snapshot® kinship inference service, which accurately predicts the degree of relatedness between pairs of DNA samples to aid law enforcement investigations. The updated service achieves greater precision through enhancements to the underlying machine learning algorithms and a large increase in the amount of data used to train them. Unlike traditional forensic DNA methods which are extremely limited in their ability to determine kinship, Snapshot uses hundreds of thousands of pieces of genetic information, enabling it to accurately detect even highly distant kinship relationships.

A diagram showing the range of Snapshot kinship inference compared to traditional forensic DNA kinship methods.

This unique service gives law enforcement a powerful new tool for improving the efficiency of investigations involving forensic DNA.  Crime scene DNA can be compared to a victim or to consenting family members of a suspect to determine whether the perpetrator is related to either. DNA from unidentified remains can be compared to family members of a missing person, even if they are distant relatives, to help with identification. Whether the analysis finds that two individuals are related or unrelated, the service enables law enforcement agencies to focus their investigation by confirming or eliminating potential leads. Because results can be generated in a matter of weeks, or days for rush orders, investigators can begin evaluating qualified leads at the outset of an investigation and use their resources more effectively.

“It’s like a familial DNA search on a select group of people, except it has vastly greater power to detect relationships,” said Dr. Steven Armentrout, Parabon’s CEO.  “For example, in cases where the perpetrator is suspected to be related to the victim, just one test with this technology, comparing the known DNA with DNA from the crime scene, could immediately clear the entire extended biological family or, conversely, implicate someone in the family, either way saving countless hours of investigation.” He noted, “Such efficiency gains lead to more cases being solved.”

The Snapshot kinship algorithms were developed by Parabon’s computational biologists as part of their research to develop new tools to assist the Armed Forces Medical Examiner identify the remains of missing U.S. Service Members from prior conflicts through DNA. The new algorithms can not only determine whether two DNA samples are from related individuals, they can also determine the degree of relatedness out to 6th-degree relatives (2nd cousins once removed) with extremely high accuracy. If no matches are found during the first scan, an expanded search is performed for extended inferences out to 9th-degree relatives (4th cousins). Snapshot’s kinship inference can be applied to individuals from any ethnic background and can even detect related individuals with different ethnic backgrounds. The service accepts forensic-scale quantities of DNA (1ng minimum) and supports screening of up to 48 subjects simultaneously for rapid throughput during urgent investigations.

Parabon’s Director of Bioinformatics, Dr. Ellen Greytak, believes Snapshot’s kinship service will be a boon to law enforcement, stating, “When investigators have DNA, but it doesn’t match a known suspect or a database, they are often left wondering what else they can do with it. Kinship inference can make a huge difference in criminal or missing-person cases where a relationship is suspected but cannot be confirmed by traditional techniques.” She added, “Once a lead is substantiated, the identity of the individual can be confirmed using standard DNA matching.”

Acknowledgement: Development of the Snapshot kinship inference algorithms has been sponsored in part by the Defense Threat Reduction Agency, the Department of Defense Office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Emerging Capabilities and Prototyping, and the US Army Research Office, and some of the supporting research was performed in collaboration with the Armed Forces DNA Identification Laboratory.

THE SPYDER STRIKES AGAIN WITH SOME GREAT EDGED TOOLS FOR 2018

The Pink Panther was a very successful film franchise written and directed by Blake Edwards for actor Peter Sellers. The first movie in the series opened in 1963 giving audiences around the world a first look at an inept French police detective, Inspector Jacques Clouseau, played by Peter Sellers. Through his incessant fumbling, Clouseau  always manages to get his man. These wonderful comedies entered my mind as I looked at Spyderco’s line of throwing knives. It’s precisely what a villain would have used against Clouseau to their own demise!

20180123_155004

But, Spyderco’s TK01 SpyderThrowers aren’t comedic nor are they movie props, they are finely crafted throwers from Canadian custom knifemaker Harald Moeller’s and clad in a superbly crafted Spanish made leather sheath that is as elegant as it is well made. Spyderco entered into an exclusive agreement with Harald Moeller to produce a center balance throwing knife.

20180123_164508

As warm as their name implies, the Spyderco Caribbean is an excellent rustproof folder. Shown above are the plain edge and serrated edge Caribbean Leaf. The Caribbean is a full-flat ground, gorgeous G10 scales and the high-strength Compression Lock mechanism. M.S.R.P is $254.95. A gorgeous knife and its rustproof LC200N makes the Caribbean and excellent choice for boaters of all kinds. Also available in Sheepfoot blade profile.

20180123_163433

Spyderco’s DARN DAO, is a Bob Lum derivative of the classic Chinese martial arts broad sword. The late Bob Lum would be proud to see his work so faithfully reproduced; every detail is consistent with a Lum design.

The DARN DAO is a huge chunk of CPM 154 stainless steel finished in a full flat grind and beautiful satin finish. Attached to its full tang, is a sweeping G10 handle. I particularly like the flare at the end. It fills the hand nicely providing positive control  of this amazing edged weapon.

The Darn Dao comes complete with a high-quality zippered storage pouch and a handsome leather sheath with an integral loop for belt carry. The sheath’s open-backed construction and thumb-break-style snap ensure positive retention, while still allowing a swift draw.

20180123_160451

Above is Spyderco’s Shaman in a black blade. This is a gorgeous knife featuring an ergonomic grip that settles into the had amazingly well regardless of grip, saber grip, reverse grip or even an icepick, this handle just sits well in the hand. The handle is a matt G10 that’s grippy without being abusive. The blade is a CPM S30V which features a very nice saber grind. You won’t have a problem carrying this pocket folder any way you wish as the pocket clip can be in any one of four positions. Spyderco’s patented Compression lock takes care of blade rigidity with a rock solid lockup. Available in  plain or serrated edges.

20180123_162940

Spyderco’s Square Head is a Dariel Caston’s design. The Sheepfoot blade is made from CTS BDI U.S. made steel finished in a single sided chisel grind. The handle is a single sided reinforced nylon handle finished in Spyderco’s bidirectional texturing. Carry it in a pocket, neck chain  or 550 paracord lanyard.

BUSHNELL SIGHTS TO LOOK FORWARD TO IN 2018

DSC_2415[1]

For 2018, Bushnell has done a superb job of filling in the gaps in its growing line of tactical optics. The company added the Tac Optics line which they’ve position as a  mid-priced sight with a projected street price of about $300 and some rather interesting names like the Mini Cannon, the Big D (a large objective red dot shown on the right) and the Little P (I wonder who came up with that one, but I was assured the P stands for prism). One of several key benefits offered in the Tac Optics line is the expanded battery life ranging from 50,000 hours to 25,000 hours and up to 4 reticle options.

DSC_2405For all of you TRS-25 fans, a group where I include myself,  Bushnell has introduced the TRS-26 in their AR Optics line. This is a great replacement for the venerable TRS-25, gone is the rotary on /off and intensity setting. That function has ben promoted to up/down push buttons on the  TRS 26. It also looks like the 26 has a crisper better defined dot. I’m looking forward to shooting the sight.

Bushnell also introduced version 2 of their First Strike micro red dot. Version 2 improves mounting options along with ease of battery access over the original First Strike. Shown below with the optional laser module.

STREAMLIGHT LIGHTS UP SHOT SHOW 2018 WITH GREAT NEW OFFERINGS

DSC_2453

For 2018, Streamlight has added two new TLR models. The TLR-7 and TLR-8 continue Streamlight’s tradition of excellent weapon mounted lights but with a more compact housing and significantly smaller rail footprint.

The TLR-7 is a 500 lumen illumination tool with a 131 meter beam and a run time of 1.5 hrs. on a single CR123A battery. Streamlight also did away with the activation paddle switch and replaced it with a low profile ambidextrous switch. The light has an on/off switch which is designed to prevent accidental activation but it also helps to prolong battery life. The housing is anodized aluminum and IPX7 waterproof

The TLR-8 offers the same 500 lumen illumination as the TLR-7 but adds a 640-660nm red laser. The TLR-8 is IPX 4 water-resistant.

High on the innovation list is the company’s USB Rechargeable Lithium Ion Battery. These18650 button top lithium ion batteries have internal safety control circuits and will charge via a micro-usb port in 5 hours. These batteries are compatible with PolyTac X, ProTac 2L-X, ProTac HL-X and ProTac HL5-X. A great concept!

Run-times and illumination output is optimized for the 18650 USB batteries.

This is a great headlamp to throw in your backpack. It’s lightweight and USB rechargeable, charging time is approx. 2.5 hours. The housing is made from impact-resistant (2m impact resistance tested) polycarbonate and is IPX4 weather-resistant.

The ENDURO® PRO headlamp is a larger 200 lumen light. It has three modes: spot for distance, flood for area illumination, red or green light for night vision preservation. The housing is IPX4 water-resistant and comes with a multi-function switch and mode memory.

This creates a perfect fitting, low-profile earplug that will never hurt, never fall out and provide superior noise isolation. That’s it, and If you don’t get the perfect fit the first time Decibullz are the only custom earplugs that are re-moldable. Decibullz are perfect for shooting, traveling, swimming, loud concerts, and musicians. Decibullz Earplugs are made in the USA.

Industry First 12 gauge Bullpup Shotgun – IWI’s TS12

Image result for IWI TS12

The shotgun has always been considered the ultimate defensive weapon. Absolute gospel, but it is not perfect. The traditional shotgun suffered from limited capacity, its length made it difficult to manipulate in close quarters,  and to effectively use it in tactical situations requires specialized training.

IWI decide to tackle that problem and late last year the company introduced a bullpup design designated as the TS12. The TS12 is the first ever bullpup design on the U.S. market and IWI spared nothing.

This is a gas operated shotgun chambered for 2-3/4 and 3 inch shotgun shells. The TS12 uses a rotary magazine consisting of 3 tubes that can be loaded with 5 rounds each. When one tube is empty, the operator can depress a button forward of the trigger guard to rotate a loaded tube into place, total capacity is 15+1.

The bullpup design keeps the overall size down so it can be easily manipulated in confined spaces like vehicles and corridors. The TS12 is capable of sustained intense firepower. I ran through 9 rounds, three in each tube,lickety-split. The recoil was moderate for a 12 gauge and the bullpup design places the center of gravity close to the shooter where it belong.

Availability dates, depending on who you ask, varied from now shipping to March 2018.
