MasterPiece Arms’ Scope Mount Surveyed #1 Used by Precision Rifle Series (PRS) Competitors

The totals were compiled from a survey of the top PRS competitors at the 2017 PRS Finale.

Comer, Ga. (February 2018)MasterPiece Arms (MPA), manufacturers of the MPA BA Rifles and Chassis Systems, was recently surveyed to be the number one scope mount used by Precision Rifle Series (PRS) competitors in the PRS 2017 Finale Gear Survey. MPA was also surveyed as the number one chassis/stock, number three muzzle brake, number five data board and number eight barrel.

The totals were compiled from a survey of the top PRS competitors at the 2017 PRS Finale that was held in Dec. 2017 in Camargo, Oklahoma. Of the 136 competitors at the Finale, approximately 110 completed the survey. The results were then compiled by PRS to show the most popular equipment used by the top-level shooters at the most competitive event of the PRS 2017 competitive season.

“We are honored and humbled to have been named the most used scope mount by the top PRS competitors. We pride ourselves on our innovative products, listening to the shooters in the field about their pain points and designing products with their feedback in mind to help them perform better when the pressure is on,” said MPA’s President, Phil Cashin.

The MPA BA Bolt Action Mount is made for mounting high performance optics onto bolt action rifles with Picatinny rail scope bases. This mounting system provides the shooter with the ability to confidently move the optic/mount to multiple rifles with simple windage and elevation adjustments. It is precision machined from 6061 T6 aluminum and finished in hard coat T3 Mil-Spec anodize. The interface ensures positive engagement for both in spec and out of spec rail systems and provides absolute return to zero via multiple locking lugs located on the bottom of the rail interface. MPA’s NATO spec rail interface system pulls the mount onto the top of the Picatinny rail, providing over 200 percent more rail contact than other competitive mounting systems that pinch the rail.

David Preston started competing in PRS in 2014 and quickly moved up the ranks, taking home 1st place in the 2015 season, as well as in the 2015 Finale with a perfect 400 score. He uses the MPA BA Competition Chassis, the MPA BA Bolt Action Mount and MPA Mag Extensions during competition for the past two years.

David Preston

“MPA products have been a great fit for me because they are all based on ideas and input from shooters, all while maintaining the comfort and ease of use. I choose MPA because they set the bar high and listen to what people want. It’s a company that leads and doesn’t follow. Ever since I started using MPA products in competitions, I have found myself in the top five 15 of the last 17 matches, including five wins,” commented Preston.

The PRS has steadily grown in both reach and influence over the past decade. In 2017, the series hosted around three dozen two-day bolt action gun and gas gun matches all over the United States. In 2018, PRS is scheduled to host an unprecedented 43 bolt action gun matches and six to eight gas gun matches, along with dozens of regional one-day Club Series matches, making 2018 PRS’ biggest year yet.

MANTIS TECH MANTIS X SHOOTING PERFORMANCE SYSTEM

DSC_2586

I’m not sure if there’s a Shot Show product of the year, but if there is Mantis Tech’s Mantis X Shooting Performance System deserves that accolade. The Mantis Tech geeks, as they describe themselves, are some very sophisticated developers who also share a passion for the shooting sports.

Mantis X is a sophisticated and ruthlessly accurate system that analyzes weapon movement identifying shooting deficiencies and making corrective recommendations. Are you using too little trigger finger? Mantis X will tell you. Are you canting your weapon? Mantis X will tell you. It’s an amazing training resource worth every penny of its modest $149 M.S.R.P.

Precision Rifle Series (PRS) Competitors Name MasterPiece Arms’ Chassis/Stock as #1 Most Used System in Competitions

The totals were compiled from a survey of the top PRS competitors at the 2017 PRS Finale.

Comer, Ga. (February 2018)MasterPiece Arms (MPA), manufacturers of the MPA BA Rifles and Chassis Systems, was recently surveyed to be the number one chassis/stock system used by Precision Rifle Series (PRS) competitors in the PRS 2017 Finale Gear Survey. MPA was also surveyed as the number one scope mount, number three muzzle brake, number five data board and number eight barrel.

“MasterPiece Arms has seen a rise in popularity over the past several seasons due in large part to their chassis design and competition specific features. The chassis forend includes the RAT (Rapid Adjustment Technology) System providing shooters with a variety of locations for bipods and other accessories and the Barricade Stop Technology has certainly changed the game on how shooters engage barricades and similar props. These features provide great stability and a significant advantage when “positional” shooting is required,” commented Mollie Tobias, the director of social media and sponsorships for PRS.

“It’s a great honor to be named the most used chassis/stock system amongst the top PRS competitors in the country. Not only are we manufacturers of these fine systems, but we are users of them as well, competing alongside other shooters using the systems we’ve built. We look forward to developing more products with the long-range precision shooter in mind,” said MPA’s President, Phil Cashin.

Aaron Hipp utilizing the MPA BA Competition Chassis.

Aaron Hipp, a PRS competitor since 2014, tied for sixth place at the 2017 PRS Finale, finishing 12th overall for the 2017 season out of 500+ shooters in the country. Hipp currently uses the MPA BA Competition Chassis for all his PRS matches, and leverages a wide array of MPA accessories developed for the chassis, including the Magnetospeed Chronograph Adapter, the Rapid Adjustable Technology (RAT) System, the Barricade Block and EVG Grip. He has used the system personally for three years and competitively since 2017. He noticed that his performance at matches improved quickly and consistently once he started to use MPA products at his matches.

“I use MPA products because they are designed with the precision shooter’s needs first and foremost. The MPA Chassis is the most reliable, stable and flexible platform I have used. This directly translates in my ability to put rounds on target accurately and quickly at extended ranges in any situation I may encounter, from insanely complex stage design to hunting situations, or even to those days when the weather makes you wish you would have stayed in bed,” remarked Hipps.

NRL Dog Valley Precision Challenge 2017

MPA has several configurations of its highly successful BA Chassis System, with the MPA BA Competition Chassis named the Official Chassis of the 2017 PRS. This competition version includes all the standards features of the original, but includes special enhancements that are designed to give shooters who utilize the competition chassis a competitive advantage when shooting in long range tactical rifle competitions, such as the PRS and related events. There are additional hole locations on the forend for locating the rotating barricade stop, which locks the rifle in place when shooting on a variety of barricade designed stages. The Trinity Rail System is used to attach a bipod to the chassis much closer to the magwell when shooting off oil drums or similar props to provide the shooter a rock-solid setup. This rail is designed to be added and removed based on the needs of the stage the competitor is shooting. The “Ryan Castle” magwell cut (not available for Tikka Inlets) is a modified magazine well that allows side loading of a magazine into the chassis. MPA has also eliminated the monopod system to reduce overall chassis weight, while providing a bag rider attachment for better rear bag recoil management.

IWI Tavor TS12 Shotgun at SHOT SHOW 2018

DSC_2243

IWI’s introduction of its Tavor TS12 bullpup shotgun was by any measure the mother of all news at this year’s Shot Show. I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to shoot this 12 gauge Tavor.

This little gem, from the kibbutz, is one impressive tactical shotgun. The TS12 is  semiautomatic, gas operated and chambered to accept both 2-3/4” and 3” shells. The TS12 has an adjustable gas system that can be set for different loads or shooting conditions.

The magazine is a rather ingenious rotary array of three tubes. Each tube can be loaded with five  2-3/4” shells or four 3” shells, so depending on the ammunition used, the operator has a 15+1 capacity or 12+1. TSG-12-straight-facing-right-550

Once you’ve exhausted your first tube, pressing the tube release, located forward of the trigger and inside the trigger guard, allows the shooter to rotate a loaded tube into position and continue firing.

Ergonomics are excellent and what you would expect from a well designed bullpup. The weapon’s weight is shifted back towards the shooter’s shoulder making the muzzle light and controllable.

The TS12 is a 12 gauge shotgun and it retains that characteristic punchiness; although,  the bullpup design helped considerably. However, recoil was what you would expect from a 12 gauge.

Other nice features include a full length 12 o’clock rail and MLOK slots for a plethora of configuration options. All controls and ejection ports are fully ambidextrous and the tubes can be loaded from the right or left side – extremely flexible!

Availability is Q1 or Q2 2018. This is one you’ll want to pick up.

Tavor TS12 Specifications:

  • Gauge: 12GA/ 3″ chamber
  • Weight: 3.6 kg (mag empty) / 8 lbs.
  • Barrel Length:  47 cm / 18.5″
  • Overall Length: 720 cm (not including choke) / 28.34″
  • Height: 260 mm / 10.23″ (from pistol grip to top)
  • Magazine: Tubular system, 15 rounds total capacity (five 2.75″ or four 3″)
  • Choke: Internal muzzle threads / Benelli / Beretta Type (one choke included)
  • Picatinny Rail:  one-piece, full-length 1913 standard top rail
  • Safety: Cross-bolt safety

What Went Wrong at Parkland ?

Image result for Parkland

I’ll dispense with the obvious  mental health issues and the FBI dropping the ball. These were given shortcomings but I will talk about the mechanics of this tragedy.

911 should be confirmation that the United States is not impervious to terrorism. Reinforcing that, we saw the attacks in Paris, Nice, London, San Bernardino, Boston, Orlando, Miami/Fort Lauderdale. We hardened airports and critical infrastructure, but schools, the most vulnerable of soft targets, were ignored. The threat of terrorism is life as it exists today , but in the usual academic naiveté  most school districts did absolutely nothing. It’s time to reposition our heads so that the brain is fully oxygenated. Each school should have a professional security assessments done to identify risks from vehicular attacks and to identify ingress and egress vulnerabilities. The time to defeat an active shooter is at the access point not after they’ve started shooting.

Cruz, hit the fire alarm for the expressed purpose of drawing students in mass out of their classrooms and into a kill zone.  Were students directed not to respond to an alarms without an administrative announcement? Did the public address system even work?

The resource officer discussion needs some amplification. In the Parkland incident, a single armed officer took up a covered position outside the building. Let’s talk about that a bit. The officer making an entry would first need to locate the shooter. Inside a building, gunfire is difficult to locate. The shooter could be on any one of three floors, in a class room or hallway. That officer would single handedly need to move through the building and cover all angles of potential fire. Corridors, stairwells and doorways are kill zones, they funnel gunfire. Making matters worse, the officer would have encountered students running through the hallways; making engaging the shooter difficult and dangerous for students as well. So, single resource officers are generally ineffective. The Broward County Deputy should have shown more courage than was demonstrated, but make no mistake he risked taking direct fire from the shooter. However, once additional deputies arrived it should have been go time for all officers on the scene and that did not happen. Why?

No one in that school building had the ability, or training, to react to the shooter with lethal force. Teachers, administrators and / or maintenance personnel should be identified and designated as armed responders. Each should be background checked, receive weapons training, along with tactics overviews.

Students need to come forward and identify fellow students engaged in the sale of drugs or advertising gang affiliations. Those can be handled without compromising the source’s identity. Approximately 60% of all gun homicides in the United States are drug business related perpetrated by gangs. A fact that receives way too little attention. Where there are drugs there are guns period!

The gun control debate needs to take place but it’s a placebo. Why? It only impacts legal purchases! Illegal guns come from connections made in chat rooms and other social media venues. Police stations are broken into and guns stolen, straw purchases, retail gun stores are robbed and police vehicles are broken into, so there is a multitude of ways that someone can gain access to a firearm of any type.

Easy MOA and Mil Calculator For Android

A number of our readers have a need for ranging tools above and beyond the laser range finder. Laser range finders typically found in the commercial and military space can be detected, so you need to be able to optically range accurately using your reticle. This is a skill set that has eroded over the years yet it’s critically important. Ranging optically is usually done with tables or a slide ruler.

We ran across an Android app that is fast, accurate and easy to use called Easy MOA & Mil Calculator. Using this app, the shooter, or spotter, can quickly determine angle, width and range.

Looking at the screenshot below you can see that my target is 18 inches wide and at an estimated range of 350 yards. Based on the calculation, the target should be 1.43 mils across as observed through my optics.

In the screenshot below, I determine range to the target…

This is an excellent app to install on your device that will make ranging and tactical observation faster and a little bit easier.

BURRIS OPTICS T.M.P.R SHOT SHOW 2018

DSC_2344

While at Shot Show this year I had the opportunity to spend some quality time with Mike from Burris’ sales group and got a top down overview of the Burris Tri-Modular Prism Riflescope , T.M.P.R., a new offering that has a lot to get excited about.

First, the T.M.P.R. is a prism sight which means if reticle illumination fails you don’t lose your

Image result for Ballistic 3X

sight. Burris will be offering this sight in 3x and 5x, ideal magnifications for AR platform optics – both combat and DMR roles.

Second, the T.M.P.R. is a platform for integrating other accessories. For example, you can configure the prism sight with a Burris Fast Fire III red dot sight and a laser pointer module. What absolutely made my day is that all devices are powered from a common CR123A source. Reducing weight and eliminating the need to have multiple shooting aids scattered all over your Picatinny rail.

Third, the T.M.P.R. comes with an integral QD Picatinny mount so there’s nothing else to buy.

Finally, I was extremely impressed with the optical clarity and the generous field of view. The 3x has a 40 yard field of view at 100 yards and the 5x has a 24 yard field of view at 100 yards.

The Burris T.M.P.R. should be available in March 2018, M.S.R.P. for the 3x is $839 and 5x $899

DNA Labs International Links Convicted Killer to Another Murder Victim Using STRmix

Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office submitted DNA from a 2009 murder and sexual battery case to DNA Labs International, a private forensic laboratory, who were able to identify Delmer Smith, a convicted killer, as her murderer.

Delmer Smith escorted by deputies into court. (Photo by Tiffany Tompkins, courtesy of Bradenton Herald).

Deerfield Beach, Fla. (February 2018) – In 2009, Delmer Smith was a suspect in a series of home invasions and sexual assaults spanning Manatee and Sarasota counties for months. He was caught and arrested in Sept. 2009 and later sentenced to life in prison for one Sarasota case, and sentenced to death for first-degree murder in a Manatee case. Now, nearly nine years later, Smith is being charged with murder and sexual battery in the April 2009 death of Georgann Lee Smith, who was raped and killed inside her home in Sarasota County. The new charge came about thanks to DNA evidence left at the crime scene and STRmix™ expert software, which did not exist at the time of the case.

The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office submitted DNA extracted from the victim’s clothes to DNA Labs International, a private forensic laboratory in Broward County, Florida, to process the evidence. By using STRmix™, DNA Labs International was able to identify Smith’s DNA from the sample taken from the victim’s clothing. Not only did the use of STRmix help to identify the perpetrator in the case, but it has also validated that STRmix is adequately robust enough for implementation in forensic laboratories and cases.

DNA Labs International specializes in forensic casework analysis using the latest technologies, including STRmix expert software, which is a breakthrough in forensic DNA analysis. STRmix allows for DNA Labs International to get results on samples that may have been considered inconclusive in the past. It is especially crucial in cold cases that were unsolvable in the past because of a complex DNA mixture. This expert software is also useful in cases with low-level DNA and partial DNA profiles or where there are no suspects and DNA from multiple people on a single sample.

STRmix has been crucial in helping resolve complex DNA mixtures commonly found when working sexual assault crimes and gun possession cases.

For more information regarding the case, read the full news report from the Bradenton Herald.

TRACT Optics Announces New TORIC 30mm Long Range Riflescopes

TRACT_TORIC_30mmSend

HUMMELSTOWN, Penn. – February 21, 2018 – TRACT Optics has released two new 30mm First Focal Plane (FFP) long range riflescopes in its flagship TORIC line. These offerings feature precision components and give consumers a world-class 30mm scope suitable for competitive or hunting-specific extreme long range shooting. The TORIC 30mm scopes are initially available in 4-20×50 with a Minute of Angle (MOA) or a Milliradian (MRAD) reticle at unbeatable no retail mark-up prices of $1,154.00.

TRACT’s TORIC line quickly established itself as an industry-leader with its Ultra High Definition optical system, SCHOTT HT (high transmission) glass, ED (Extra Low Dispersion) lens and a Fully Multi-Coated lens system. These combined features and technologies deliver incredibly sharp and bright images and offer superior light transmission values. The new 30mm also include a 5x zoom, one-piece 30mm main body tube, high-precision turrets, four inches of constant eye relief and a Glass Etched Reticle designed for superior performance with even the heaviest magnum calibers.

“We’re very excited for our new FFP 30mm long range scopes to hit the market,” said TRACT Co-Founder Jon LaCorte. “The emergence of extreme long-range shooting and hunting make this a natural expansion to our line. We combined over 40 years of optics industry experience to load these scopes up on features not available at these price points. Our 30mm TORIC options give shooters and hunters premium glass with the best features and high-end capabilities. Whether they’re competing in the Precision Rifle Series (PRS) or practicing for long-range big game hunting, our scopes are the perfect option.”

TRACT TORIC 30mm riflescopes stand out with superior light transmission values, especially in the blue and violet spectrum. The ED lens minimizes color fringing and provides ultra-sharp images in low light at higher magnifications. A locking turret with Multi Rotation Zero Stop features 20 MOA/10 MRAD per rotation. The scopes are waterproof, fogproof and purged with Argon gas. Each option features a First Focal Plane illuminated reticle with 11 intensity settings with on/off positions between each level.

The new scopes are compatible with TRACT’s custom turret system and allow the user to have turrets engraved to match specific cartridges or handloads. Matching loads to the new reticles is also easy as they are included in TRACT’s Impact Ballistic Resource Web Program.

Each scope is a matte graphite color with Type III anodizing, recoil tested to 1,000g, offers side focus parallax adjustment focuses from 25 yards to infinity and includes a 3” sunshade.

Phoenix Weaponry’s Integrally Suppressed 338-06 Rifle

Phoenix Weaponry’s Integrally Suppressed 338-06 Rifle

Introducing Phoenix Weaponry’s integrally suppressed hunting rifle.

This is your opportunity to shoot the heavy loads and high velocities in the field without paying the price with your hearing.  None of us like spending the next three days wondering if there is a phone ringing somewhere.  This rifle has been developed around the venerable and highly tuned Remington 700 action with a PTG fluted bolt and a tactical bolt knob (Other actions can be used in this build, and can be requested and quoted at time of order).   At the core of this integrally suppressed assembly is an air gauged 24” custom Douglas barrel blank which has been mated with a titanium suppressor core and sleeve in order to maintain the lightest weight and highest durability possible for a functional hunting rifle that has been designed to be comfortably carried in the field all day.  Overall weight of the rifle as built in .338-06 is just under 8 lbs., less optics.  This rifle is built for long range delivery and as such is supplied with a 20 MOA rail and a custom Bell and Carlson stock that has been inlet and glass bedded for superior accuracy.  Not only is the rifle quiet, it is remarkably accurate, and consistently shoots sub MOA.  Available in just about any caliber imaginable.

While this is a standard rifle, we will be happy to custom build it any way you would like, or likewise convert your current rifle to this integrally suppressed platform just by contacting us directly so we can help you realize your dream.  You can reach us here during normal business hours at (720) 340-2496, or submit an inquiry toinfo@phoenixweaponry.com

OUR TOP 5 PISTOL PICKS FROM SHOT SHOW 2018

DSC_2433

At the top of my list is Glock’s 19X, which is visually attractive and comes with all of the right bells and whistles to make it an exceptional offering from Glock. The company has improved the grip texture, added a “real” lanyard loop, extended the slide stop lever, forgot all about the external safety and included the Glock marksman barrel. I had the opportunity to run through a couple of magazines on Range Day and fell in love with the pistol.

DSC_2370

Number 2 on my list is SIG SAUER’s new P365. This is the pistol the industry sees as the Glock 43 slayer. The P365 embodies SIG commitment to excellence in a package that’s chambered in 9 mm with a 10 +1 capacity. SIG’s micro-compact offering has front and rear slide serrations, excellent grip and a very nice trigger. The P365 will give Glock 43 a run for its money, no question about it.

20180125_112240

Third on my list and a close tie with SIG’s P365 is Walther’s PPS M2. This pistol is classic Walther! Extraordinary ergonomics everything from the grip to the front and rear slide serrations scream Walther Arms. The trigger is easily the best out of the box trigger of any pistol on the market. I particularly liked the oversized rear sight which makes it easier to perform a charging operation should one hand be disabled. Metal sights, extended magazine release and 3 magazine options are just icing on this cake. In live fire, the PPS M2 is comfortable and controllable and its excellent trigger makes it a joy to shoot.

DSC_2550

Fourth, is Beretta’s APX. Grasping a Beretta APX is like putting on a tailor made suit, everything fits just right, even its aggressive slide serrations are extremely well implemented and make slide manipulations very smooth. I could have done without the somewhat aggressive finger grooves but that was more than compensated for by Beretta’s decision to serialize the trigger group and not the frame. Their choice makes it possible to change frame sizes and colors along with opening the doors to caliber changes using the same serialized trigger group. I’ve heard complaints about APX’s striker deactivator and the take down procedure which are quite candidly petty. The mechanism is designed to prevent disassembly of the pistol if the striker is still loaded (under spring pressure) thus eliminating the possibility of releasing the striker on a potentially loaded chamber. The APX is chambered in 9mm and offers a 17+1 capacity. Beretta is also making the APX in a .40S&W with a 15+1 capacity. The APX is a superb full size offering suitable for both LE and military application.

20180125_203148

The number five spot goes to Heckler & Koch’s VP9 Tactical. This version is identical to the rest of the VP line with the only difference being the threaded polygonal bore profile minus the traditional o-ring. The trigger is excellent and typical of the VP series. Again, the finger grooves did not float my boat but that was compensated for by the inclusion of the rear cocking supports. When operating the VP with a glove hand the cocking supports come in very handy. All controls are fully ambidextrous . The VP9 Tactical is available in 15+1 9mm and 13+1 .40S&W configurations. An excellent pistol in all respects.

Our Thoughts on the Parkland School Shootings

Image result for parkland florida

The Parkland school shootings stand as a national tragedy. Seventeen lives were snuffed out and fourteen others injured through the actions of a criminal who’s sole desire was to elevate his self esteem. Our heartfelt condolences go out to those students and family members who lost a friend, classmate or sibling.

Where have we gone to as a society? I grew up  in a time when an individual of legal age could walk into a store and purchase a firearm and ammunition by simply presenting a government issued i.d. There were no mass killings. If you had a problem with someone at school, it was usually resolved with a face to face encounter behind the bleachers, but what  troubles me even more than our current social fabric is the prosaic exploitation of a national tragedy to advance a political agenda.

Readers, if the availability of guns were a valid causation for violence,  there would have been mass shootings when I was growing up but there were none that I can think of. What the hell has gone wrong? We have more gun legislation and restrictions than ever before yet we experience these senseless acts of violence. Guns aren’t the drivers behind a behavior that trivializes human life. Enter technology.

Over the years, responsible parenting has been disappearing; increasingly, mothers and fathers have substituted active parental supervision with laptops, PlayStations, and smartphones all of which can either be enablers, or the gates of hell. Social media interactions has replaced human interaction and social media has been weaponized to hurt and malign. It’s become more important to get a large number of likes than it is to develop people skills.

Kids, of all ages are vulnerable because of their lack of cognitive skills to assess and process what they are being exposed to on the world wide web, and without continuous and intrusive parental supervision they are rudderless and vulnerable to toxic ideas and affiliations. Online, unsupervised kids can receive instruction on building explosive devices, identify soft targets, tactics, or even recruited.  This is today’s environment. So, how do we protect our most vulnerable from potential carnage?

You do what the Israelis have successfully done, identify and harden soft targets. Restricting guns or gun types are ineffective when the perpetrator can go on Facebook and learn how to construct a pressure cooker bomb. Remember what economics teaches us, when you are hungry and can’t find a hamburger you’ll eat a hot dog – they call it substitution. Substitution is not an excuse it is functional and very real! The change we are looking for does not start with Congress it starts at home with moms and dads.

Our prayers go out to your friends, classmates and families !

Fontcuberta, a native of Spain, is a world champion long-range competitor with more than 25 years of experience as a military and law enforcement sniper trainer and armorer. His name is probably most recognizable from his frequent writing in national firearm magazines and his book, 100+ Sniper Exercises. In order to provide more personal-trainer-like sessions with ample individual instruction, Fontcuberta is limiting each of the three-day courses to a maximum seven students. Each of the courses will provide students with a total of more than 24 hours of intensive instruction.

The SPR-I course is meant to provide students with theoretical knowledge, shooting practice and the ballistic skills needed to reach each Steyr rifle’s accuracy potential. The course covers the fundamentals of rifle marksmanship, creation of extremely accurate paper and electronic tables, as well as understanding of how different factors affect shooting. During the dynamic classroom sessions as well as range practice, Fontcuberta will adapt to the students’ needs while covering all the components of successful long-range shooting, including equipment selection and refinement, proper zeroing techniques, zero-distance selection, scope and rifle accuracy testing, wind estimation, new hardware, and ballistics know-how and software options. A Steyr Logbook is also included with the course. Students who don’t own a Steyr rifle prior to the course can rent a Steyr Pro THB rifle, and other rifle models will be available on request. By the end of the course, students will be able to operate on their own with supreme confidence when shooting targets or hunting.

Rather than a typical parts-replacement class, the SPA course focuses on the art of assembling and maintaining a precision rifle to include all special needs, optics, ammunition, and complex adjustments. Fontcuberta will provide students the knowledge to gain 100-percent effectiveness from their Steyr precision rifles, as well as complete repairs and keep them performing at competition/sniper standards. The course will cover all the maintenance, replacement, disassembly and re-assembly procedures, trigger adjustment and even barrel changes. Students will also learn about scope-rail selection, scope-base types, proper mounting of optics and night-vision systems and advanced stock adjustment and how to test and evaluate a scope system. In addition, the course will cover advanced zero procedures for armorers, no-shooting field zero and how to create custom tables adapted to the scope, ammunition and performance for each individual rifle setup. Students will also be able to test-fire their work both at Steyr’s indoor test range as well as on a 600-yard outdoor range.

Tuition for each course is $995, and Fontcuberta has plans for future courses that will focus on other Steyr firearms platforms and their employment. For more information on the Steyr Arms Training Academy and the courses offered, visit http://steyrarms.com/academy/.

MasterPiece Arms Introduces the MPA BA Hybrid Chassis

From hunting to F-Class and everything in between, the MPA BA Hybrid Chassis provides a light platform that can be customized to the shooter’s needs.

Comer, Ga. (February 2018)MasterPiece Arms (MPA), manufacturers of the MPA BA Rifles and Chassis Systems, is pleased to introduce the MPA BA Hybrid Chassis. Based on the highly successful BA Chassis System, the Hybrid Chassis base weighs in at just below 3 lbs. It has been designed to give the shooter a variety of different applications in which his or her rifle can be used, whether it be for different hunting scenarios or for competing in F-Class (FTR), where weight restriction on the overall weight of the rifle assembly is a vital factor. Watch the YouTube video below:

Masterpiece Arms MPA Hybrid Chassis

Masterpiece Arms MPA Hybrid Chassis

“We wanted to come up with a chassis that had the footprint of our standard BA Chassis but was lighter than our BA Lite Chassis. We’ve extended the forend and have made it lighter. We call it the Hybrid because it gives the shooter the ability to utilize this chassis in a number of different applications and can also can be modified for weight by using our new Weight Tuning System,” said Phil Cashin, president of MasterPiece Arms.

For the shooter who wants to use all the many benefits the Hybrid offers for hunting applications, it provides the reduced weight needed, whether hunting white tail from a tree stand or blind or hiking deep into the back country. The weight of the chassis will not be a limiting factor. For the F-Class shooter, this ultra-precision chassis allows for more weight to be placed onto other areas of the rifle, providing the shooter with his or her desired accuracy performance without being hamstrung due to the weight of the stock.

The Precision Rifle Series (PRS) shooter can also utilize all the game changing technology MPA includes in the chassis design that has propelled MPA to the most used rifle stock or chassis by the best shooters in the PRS (according to the 2017 PRS Finale Gear Survey). One incredible enhancement that can be added to the Hybrid design is the MPA Weight Tuning System. This gives the shooter the ability to take this 2.9 lbs. chassis and increase the weight up to 7 lbs., as well as alter the balance point of the rifle assembly.

The chassis is machined on MPA’s CNC Horizontal Machining Centers to exacting tolerances from 6061 aluminum. MPA’s unique pocketing system reduces weight and increases the structural integrity of the chassis. At an astonishing 2.9 lbs. with no recoil pad, this unique chassis system provides a super precise platform for the Remington 700 Short and Long (and all deviants, such as Curtis Custom, Stillers TAC, Surgeon 591, Mausingfield, Kelbys, Impact Precision, Big Horn and many others), Savage and Howa Short or Long Actions, Tikka Short Action (T3) and Badger M2013. New inlets are being added frequently.

The MPA produced buttstock includes an adjustable length of pull, recoil pad with height and cant adjustment and adjustable cheek riser. The upper night vision bridge can be added as an accessory and provides a seat for a Picatinny rail. A matching rail is mounted to the bottom of the chassis, giving the shooter plenty of rail space for a variety of enhancements.

Mini Me, Trojans and Collusion

Image result for collusion

It’s Friday and time for our shoot the shit. I just got over the flu and I must tell you, you don’t want to go through this. Where did I pick it up? On a crowded flight back from Las Vegas. Two morons coughing up a storm without covering their mouths and an airline that didn’t offer them a face mask.

This is our first shoot the shit for the year. We do this because we want to keep you from paying $150, or more, per hour to a jackass who studied psychology because they could bullshit their way through class or wanted to understand themselves. Readers wishing to participate, can make unsupported statements, use uncensored profanity, insult anyone they wish or change the subject altogether. You can’t beat that with a stick, so let’s get started.

There’s so much crap to talk about that its hard to pick one or two topics to dissect and have some fun with, but we’ll role with a couple you may find interesting.

The 2018 Winter Olympics kicked off in PyeongChang, South Korea and after observing the sitting arrangements, I have to believe the U.S. Secret Service was freaking out…

Image result for Mike Pence Olympic Seating

Sitting behind Vice President Pence was none other than Kim Jung Un’s (a.k.a. Mini Me) sister, Kim Yo Jong – who is a good looking chick! Knowing how Kim Jung Un took out his half-brother, she could have taken the V.P. out with a VX gas vaginal discharge or through the expulsion of intestinal putrefaction. I wonder who was responsible for that arrangement?

If that’s not enough for you, have you seen the Trojan Bareskin Valentine’s Day commercial? Whoever came up with this should be using them as hats or water balloon party favors!

Last but not least is the Russian collusion saga. Everybody has a theory, if this isn’t a total cluster-hump I don’t know what is. Here’s our analysis…

  1. Any idea that Russia was conspiring against Hillary Clinton is nonsense. The Russians had the Clintons already compromised. Bill Clinton’s $500,000 speaking engagement in Russia and the $140,000,000 foundation donation after the Uranium transaction while Hillary Clinton was at State made the Clinton’s far more pliable than Donald J Trump. The only possible reason why Russia would try to sabotage Hillary Clinton’s Presidential Campaign is payback for U.S. intervention in the Ukraine – recall our attempt to depose Viktor Yanukovych.
  2. Christopher Steele is a fall guy. Mr. Steele was recruited solely because  his MI6 curriculum vitae allowed him to feed the FBI a phony dossier, and made it possible for him to leak information to the media with credibility under auspices of “working” for the FBI. Making that feeding easier is the fact that, allegedly, senior DOJ and FBI officials were plainly anti-Trump. Furthermore, it’s quite likely that Steele also seeded social media to create the illusion of direct Russian intervention. Adding to this already complex equation was knowledge that Mr. Steele’s extradition and questioning by U.S. lawmakers was unlikely to occur.
  3. The Russians have always had very active clandestine operations and it is quite possible they observed and possibly attempted to influence public opinion in our 2016 election, but no more so than any other nation state in the course of conducting foreign policy agendas.

What I find interesting with the entire collision / interference idea is that at no time, prior to the 2016 election, have voters been informed of possible interference in U.S. elections by foreign powers. Collusion and interference allegations only surface in 2016. If Russia and other foreign powers have been interfering for some time with our electoral processes, one should think officials would have exposed that activity to American voters; yet it only surfaces in 2016. Go figure!

I’ll end by reminding citizens of Obi Wan Kenobi’s line from the Starwars film “A New Hope”, circa 1977…

These aren’t the droids you’re looking for. He can go about his business. Move along…

Stay alert, stay engaged and have a great weekend. Spend some quality time with your buds and family.

Speer Secures Long-Term Ammunition Contract from French National Police

Additional Gold Dot features include ultra-reliable CCI primers, plus high-powered, clean-burning propellants and nickel-plated brass cases for smooth function and extreme durability.
