Well readers we’ve made it through another week and its time for a little R&R. It’s also time for our weekly shoot the shit. That social interaction where participants can discuss any topic, but unlike more formal events where participants need to know what they’re talking about, a shoot the shit does not require participants to know anything. It’s as close to a Congressional meeting as you can get. So, participants are free to make any unsupported comment, use uncensored profanity, insult anyone they wish or change the subject altogether. A weekly shoot the shit will keep you from having to pay $150 hour to someone that studied psychology so they could understand themselves. So let’s get started…

You’ve undoubtedly herd of Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who I affectionately refer to as “Ding Bat”, represents New York’s 14th Congressional District (Eastern Bronx and North Central Queens). I can accept that she’s energetic, charming and cute, but add to that clueless. I’m not entirely sure what she studied at Boston University but she definitely missed study hall. I’d love to see her official college transcript. The poor woman’s ideas give anal extraction a new and expanded meaning and 14th Congressional District voters are paying $250K fully loaded a year plus travel and staff costs along with offices in the 14th District – unbelievable. Someone should tell AOC that the expulsion of intestinal putrefaction from cows and humans is methane (CH4) along with traces of sulfur dioxide and other gases. What AOC doesn’t get is that her policies will ensure that the number of “ordinary” people in the country would increase exponentially. Nancy Pelosi better get a handle on her Party.

As I watched AOC and her group of clad in white women , I did not see a group of serious, patriotic and dedicated professional problem solvers. I saw what reminded me of a Santeria shindig minus the chicken and BABLU AYE music.

Recognizing that readers may not be familiar with Santeria I’ll give you a brief expose’.

Santeria Gathering Congressional Women at SOTU

The only thing missing from the Ocasio-Cortez Congressional group was the dead chicken ritual and a little music. If you hung out for whatever reason in Central America or Northern and Central South America you’ve undoubtedly seen some dead chickens on some door steps. The form changes from region to region, but, by far, the best is the Cuban dead chicken. The chicken’s throat is cut its breast is cut open then grains of corn and coins are placed inside. Taking the coins will curse you unless you wash them in your own urine. I kid you not!

SIG SAUER M18 Sets New Standard for U.S. Army’s Modular Handgun System (MHS) Reliability Testing

Historically, Lot Acceptance Testing would include testing handguns to 5,000 rounds and allow for up to 12 stoppages to pass.  The recent MHS Material Reliability Test consisted of firing three M18 pistols to an unprecedented 12,000 rounds each, and in an extraordinary display of reliability, the M18 performed with zero stoppages. Additionally, despite undergoing this level of strenuous testing the M18 passed a parts interchange test, met all of the stringent accuracy and dispersion requirements, was tested for firing pin indent and trigger pull measurements to ensure consistency, and conformed to all workmanship standards.

The success of the MHS program, and the performance of both the M17 and M18 pistols, was further confirmed in the recently published Director of Operation Testing and Evaluation (DOT&E) Annual Report, which provides an independent review and analysis of the U.S. Department of Defense weapons systems.  The report states that, “the MHS meets or exceeds requirements for accuracy, lethality, ergonomics, and safety,” in addition to stating that, “both the XM17 and the XM18 are operationally effective and suitable.”

Ron Cohen, President & CEO of SIG SAUER, Inc., began, “the results of this testing for the M18 pistol is truly impressive. The M18 withstood the harsh testing and performance requirements set forth in the MHS contract and has set a new standard for reliability in service pistols.”

The M18 is a 9mm, striker-fired pistol featuring a coyote-tan PVD coated stainless steel slide with black controls. The pistol is equipped with SIGLITE front night sights and removable night sight rear plate, and manual safety.

After one of the most rigorous and highly competitive selection processes in the history of military firearms, SIG SAUER was awarded the Modular Handgun System (MHS) contract for the full-size M17 and the compact M18 with the P320-based pistol platform. Both the M17 and M18 pistols are being adopted by the Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard. The MHS contract was awarded to SIG SAUER in January 2017 for delivery of 480,000 pistols over a period of ten years; to date SIG SAUER has delivered over 20,000 pistols.

New Mailing Address For NFA Forms

Retired Air Force Chief Master Sgt. Will Markham of Tampa, Florida was the lucky winner of the massive Howard Leight Prize Package.

Two presentations by top-tier multigun competitor and Howard Leight Pro Ambassador, Travis Gibson, were also a hit, as was a fantastic giveaway of a $10,000 prize package featuring Howard Leight electronic earmuffs, shooting glasses, MuckTM boots, Vortex optics, MGM targets, Warne MSR mounting kits, a Safariland gift certificate and a Caracal competition rifle. 

The prize package was won by retired Air Force Chief Master Sgt. Will Markham, director of operations for the Special Operations Warrior Foundation, in Tampa, Florida. Markham, who Howard Leight later learned was instrumental in the battle to liberate Kabul, Afghanistan from the Taliban after 9/11, was elated at the news he had won, noting, “This will go to very good use, including some outdoors excursions with our Gold Star families [family members of a fallen service member] and wounded warriors.”

Tactical Light/Laser Features One-Hour Run Time, integrated Red Aiming Laser

EAGLEVILLE, PA, February 5, 2019 – Streamlight® Inc., a leading provider of high-performance lighting and weapon light/laser sighting devices, introduced a new version of its ultra-compact TLR-6® rail mount weapon light, designed to securely attach to the rail and trigger guard of SIG SAUER®P365® subcompact handguns. The new light/laser module, which uses an ultra-bright power LED, also features an integrated red aiming laser. 

The TLR-6 is designed to maximize visibility and targeting capability in a variety of concealed carry, home defense and tactical applications. Streamlight introduced the light — an industry first — in 2015 with a housing designed to fit the trigger guard of Glock® 42 and Glock® 43 handguns. Today, the company offers multiple models of the light to fit a variety of compact pistols and full-size handguns.

“We continue to expand the versatility of the TLR-6, by introducing this new housing that quickly and securely attaches to SIG SAUER P365 subcompact handguns,” said Streamlight President and Chief Executive Officer Ray Sharrah. “Now, tactical, concealed carry and home defense users can attach this light/laser module to their P365 subcompacts and benefit from its targeted bright light, as well as its powerful red aiming laser.”

Importantly, Sharrah added, the light and laser combination enables users to more readily identify a potential threat before taking action.

Like other TLR-6 models, the new TLR-6 for SIG SAUER P365 weapons delivers 100 lumens and 2,000 candela over a beam distance of 89 meters. Its parabolic reflector produces a balance of beam and peripheral illumination. The light features three lighting modes: LED Only, LED/Laser, and Laser Only, with operating run times of one hour for the LED Only and LED/Laser modes, and 11 hours for the Laser Only mode. All modes automatically shut off after ten minutes to conserve batteries. The light also uses an integrated 640-660 nm red laser.

The TLR-6 for SIG SAUER P365 handguns is powered by two 3 Volt CR-1/3N lithium coin batteries. It features an integrated battery door that permits batteries to be replaced while the light remains mounted on the gun, eliminating the need to re-sight the laser after a battery change.

The light is manufactured from durable, impact-resistant engineered polymer. It is IPX4 rated for water-resistant operation, and also is impact-resistant tested to one meter. The new model is 2.5 inches in length, and weighs 1.12 oz. 

The TLR-6 for SIG SAUER P365 weapons has an MSRP of $187.43. It comes with Streamlight’s Limited Lifetime Warranty.

February 4, 2019 – Rafael Advanced Defense Systems Ltd. has released a video from a firing test of the SPIKE NLOS launched from a light buggy (TOMCAR).

SPIKE NLOS is a 30 km Precision Guided Missile, part of the 5th generation electro-optical SPIKE Family, operational today in 31 countries worldwide. Last year, RAFAEL unveiled a light, modular launcher for the SPIKE NLOS missile, integrated on a light buggy (e.g. TOMCAR).

The SPIKE Launcher used in this test weighs only 1350 kg, including 8 rounds – providing armies and Special Forces with a low-weight, maneuverable, precision element that can be easily air-deployed deep into enemy territory and used to attack point targets (static & mobile) with very high precision, and with no dependence on GPS.

 

The video, which was taken during the launcher qualification process, shows the firing of the SPIKE NLOS missile to above 25 km at various target types and various firing trajectories (both very low and very high) ‒ defined according to the mission, scenario, and target type.

National Police Ammunition Introduces its New Patent Pending HELO SR 9mm Cartridge with Fluted Insert

Miami, Florida (January 2019) – National Police Ammunition (NPA), the world’s leader in lead free ammunition, is pleased to announce the development and soon to be released patent pending HELO SR 9mm 120 grain solid copper hollow point with a sintered alloy fluted ballistic insert. HELO SR is an acronym for High Expansion, Law Enforcement, Ordinance with a Sintered Ram. 

The NPA Patented Pending HELO SR is designed for law enforcement and specifically to pass and exceed all FBI performance protocols.

NPA patent pending SR ballistic insert utilizes a metal alloy sintered tip that will not deform in flight and acts as a barrier blind round by allowing the ballistic tip to defeat intermediate barriers then release from the main body of the projectile once encountering soft tissue allowing complete energy transfer and controlled expansion of the main body of the hollow point bullet mitigating risk of over-penetration.

The patent pending sintered alloy fluted insert is much denser that other products on the market that use a polymer, nylon, or a plastic material giving the HELO SR greater ability to stay intact when passing through FBI protocol barriers such as auto glass, steel, plywood, and drywall.

Once the bullet encounters soft tissue a hydraulic effect is created when entering the cavities between the flutes thereby forcing the bullet to expand and releasing the ballistic insert from the main body of the hollow point.

NPA will first introduce the HELO SR pistol cartridge in the increasingly popular 9mm among law enforcement and will be expanding the line to all other major calibers.

There are two variants developed of the HELO SR one being restricted to the law enforcement market and a second designed for civilian self-defense distributed by NPA’s commercial brand Alchemist Ammunition.

Cody, WY (January 31, 2019) – The American Knife & Tool Institute (AKTI) today applauded the introduction of H 124, which would repeal Vermont’s prohibition on the possession and sale of automatic knives in the state. The bill, sponsored by Representative Pat Brennan, R-Chittenden 7-2, will repeal the burdensome state laws that impede on the rights of law abiding citizens of Vermont.

One of the more interesting exhibitors at Shot Show 2019 Range Day was Nite Site, a U.K. based developer of night vision technology for hunting and observation. What I found unique about the company’s system is that it’s impervious to ambient lighting condition. Their technology processes IR illumination in a proprietary manner to deliver outstanding results.

Nite Site offers three models, the VIPER for short-range hunting, WOLF for medium range targets and the ultra powerful EAGLE for long-range shoots.

How’s Your Love Life?

Shot Show 2019 is in the history books and what a great show it was. I want to take my hat off for the NSSF folks who work diligently to deliver a quality event. Well Done! Shot Show 2020 is expected to be even bigger and I believe the new product section will expand to the MGM Grand. Shot attracts exhibitors, buyers and press from around the world. It is the premier trade conference in the outdoors industry, with excellent presenters – a lot to be learned. If you are part of this industry make it a point to attend, it’s well worth the time and cost. That concludes my sales pitch.

So, what the hell is a shoot the shit? Succinctly stated, it is a social interaction where any topic under the sun can be discussed. Participants don’t need to know anything about the topic, they can use uncensored profanity, insult anyone you wish or change the subject at will. If you feel that you need therapy try scheduling a shoot the shit first. You’ll find it highly effective and it saves you the $150 per hour you’d paying to a moron that studied psychology so they could understand themselves.

Before kicking off this shoot the shit, I want to speak to our young men and women readers.

Many of you will be graduating from high school or college this coming June. As you step forward to receive your diploma and start thinking about life’s direction, consider service to your country. It’s good for you in a number of ways. You will see, do and experience things that few will ever get to see. You will receive training and develop proficiencies that academia can never provide. You will learn teamwork and leadership by being challenged. You will grow into strong and responsible men and women. This weeklong training event, occurring in Reno, Nevada, May 6 – 10, 2019, will provide an array of sought-after leaderships courses.

Colorado Springs, Colo. (January 2019) – The National Tactical Officers Association(NTOA) is pleased to announce its first ever Law Enforcement Leadership Symposium, to be held in Reno, Nevada, May 6 – 10, 2019. Developing strong leadership is a challenging task for police agencies.
