Sellmark Acquires Kopfjager

Kopfjager began humbly with a rifle rest designed, tested and redesigned by two SWAT officers, Garret Hellinger and Matt Banes. Making a difference in Peru

Barrett Communications is pleased to continue to assist and extend the support it offers Unidad 4X4 in their response to natural disasters in Peru, following Barrett’s previous support programs in 2016, 2018 and 2019.

Winters in the Peruvian Andes have been progressively more extreme in recent years and Unidad 4X4 identified villages in the Yauyos province (in excess of 4,700m above sea level) which needed extra support. In August 2018, eight 4×4 vehicles and 30 volunteers (including medical doctors) embarked on a humanitarian aid mission to the villages of Huarmicocha, Betania and Cacra assisting 245 local people. They provided food supplies, warm clothing, blankets, rubber boots and medicines that were donated by numerous individuals, organizations and institutions. The volunteer medical doctors were able to provide much needed medical attention to the elderly men and women, adults and children in the community.
Following the success of the Yauyos province mission, the Unidad volunteers remain aware many other villages that require support and this sparked the planning of Yauyos Humanitarian Mission Phase II in November 2018 and Phase III in April 2019.  Yauyos Humanitarian Mission Phase II focused on the most remote and isolated communities and people around Huarmicocha, Poroche and Betania, and Mission phase III on communities around Huarmicocha and Bethany.  These villages can only be reached on foot and couldn’t be attended to in the previous mission due to their remote locations and lack of a reliable communications link.  This link was provided using a Barrett 2090 HF manpack radio that allowed the volunteers to maintain communications from these remote communities.
The aid provided in Phases II and III consisted of hardware and technical advice for the modification of 28 homes in the villages to make them safer and warmer. They also provided food, warm clothing, blankets and medical aid. Anibal Paredes of Unidad 4X4 explained that “with the installation of a “Trombe Wall” and an enhanced wood stove, the homes of these people will significantly improve.  The temperature inside the homes will be 10°-15°C warmer and free of toxic smoke from an open flame cooking fire.”
Mr Paredes’s passion has extended beyond organising and running the mission to include establishing an emergency radio listening and monitoring service with a station in Chaclacayo, Lima and Pisco, Ica. On March 12 2019, Mr Paredes heard a repeated call requesting medical care for a pregnant woman in Viscatan. After repeated transmissions and no response, the radio operator questioned openly if anybody was receiving the call. As no response to the transmission was made, Mr Paredes stepped in advising that he had heard the call, who he was and offered to forward the message. A doctor was contacted and an ambulance was sent, immediately departing for Viscatan two hours away. Both mother and baby received the medical care they needed. Mr Paredes commented “we are pleased to have the two stations but we are keen to add additional stations in the future.”

Cody, Wyoming (June 4, 2019) – Knives from renowned custom makers including Ed Fowler, Lucas Burnley, Tony Bose, Philip Booth, Mathew Lerch, Richard Rogers, Brian Tighe, Tom Mayo, Ken Onion, and Joe Caswell will be on live auction at the American Knife & Tool Institute’s (AKTI) fundraiser on Friday evening, June 7th in Atlanta, Georgia. Funds raised by the live and silent auctions will support the American Knife & Tool Institute’s legislative efforts. German Army performs European SPIKE firing campaign

June 3, 2019 The German army has finalized its annual training in firing of Rafael’s SPIKE LR ATGM missile (also named MELLS in Germany). The firing was performed in Germany under adverse weather conditions, and included the firing of as many as 54 live SPIKE LR missiles by German Army gunners from the new SPIKE ICLU launchers (Integrated Control Lunch Unit), which includes a new digital user interface.   

During the training, German personnel launched SPIKE LR missiles in complex firing scenarios, including engagements in BLOS (Beyond-Line-of-Sight: targets hidden behind cover), retargeting midflight scenarios, firing in total darkness in IR (infrared) mode, as well as firing in day mode under harsh conditions of intense rain and strong winds. Both launchers and gunners performed flawlessly and all 54 missiles hit their targets successfully. 

Rafael’s SPIKE Family missiles, sold to 31 countries around the world, with over 30,000 missiles supplied, consists of missiles suited for land, air and naval platforms, multiple ranges and a variety of targets. The missiles in this family have a sophisticated electro-optic multispectral seeker for day/night operation, as well as an advanced tandem anti-tank warhead. Their lofted trajectories enable the warhead to strike the target at its most vulnerable location with pinpoint precision. All of the SPIKE Family members have a low life-cycle cost, due to high reliability and operational, logistic support and production commonality between members.

SPIKE is in production in Europe by EUROSPIKE, through major EU defense OEM‘s as well as numerous EU SME‘s and is already integrated and qualified to a large variety of terrestrial and aerial EU armed forces platforms, including armored vehicles, attack helicopters and naval vessels.

“SPIKE has proved to be a high quality and reliable system chosen by 18 EU/NATO members (as well as 13 additional nations). EUROSPIKE and Rafael see great importance in maintaining the commonality of the European user nations SPIKE launchers & missiles. The nations’ interoperability is a key factor both tactically and economically. Part of our roadmap in all SPIKE weapon system upgrades includes investment of substantial R&D funds to maintain this commonality”, said Mr. Moshe Elazar, Executive Vice President and Head of Rafael’s Land and Naval Division.

We just wanted to take a moment and remind you of the life expectancy of the products contained within our K-9 kits. Explosives, as with most things, decompose and begin to “break down” over time. This decomposition may or may not affect the physical characteristics and outward appearance of explosive materials, which may appear serviceable and will still function as designed (explode when initiated with proper demolition methods). However, the physical appearance and ability to detonate is not the major concern when it comes to K-9 detection of explosive materials — it’s the scent (odor) characteristics and how they are affected by decomposition. When a material begins to decompose its odor molecules begin to evaporate and then move via diffusion and bulk air movement to the dog’s nose. Once there, the dog must recognize the odor and determine its source direction, which enables the dog to move towards the source based on increased concentration. The concentration of the odor at the dog’s nose will be a function of both the source strength (evaporation rate) and its movement and dissipation in the air. What does this mean for K-9 explosives detection? This means your explosives will decompose at a molecular level, which will change the odor being evaporated from the material and ultimately altering the scent signature of that material, before you notice a physical change in their outward appearance. This process may be slowed through proper storage, use and handling techniques, but ultimately cannot be avoided. Moreover, the process of decomposition may be accelerated by factors beyond your control – average ambient temperature, humidity, atmospheric pressure, etc.

The use of older explosive materials that have begun to decompose and present an altered scent signature may result in improper scent imprinting, which could prove to be catastrophic if your dog “walks” or misses improvised explosive device (IED) or other explosive materials during a real-world sweep. You and your K-9 partner need to be training with materials of the highest quality in order to ensure your effectiveness and efficiency when performing your duties. This is why we highly recommend that our Explosives Detection K-9 Training & Proficiency Kits be replaced by their owning agencies on an annual basis.

Yes, there are some products inside our kits that will last much longer than others, but there are also some that will degrade much faster. Items such as Dynamite, Emulsion, Watergel, etc. are extremely hygroscopic and constantly absorb and release moisture from the atmosphere, which facilitates faster rates of decomposition. Given the varied rate of decomposition amongst the materials included in our K-9 kits, we’ve averaged the expected serviceable life span (from an odor perspective) to be one (1) year.

Madrid, May 31, 2019.- In collaboration with the Spanish Army, Indra has developed an innovative simulator that will enable soldiers to train with the actual equipment they use in their missions, but immersed in a virtual environment where they can move around wearing VR goggles.

The system will be part of the iVictrix marksmanship simulator, the latest version of the Victrix simulator that is currently used by the Spanish Armed Forces on many of its bases and main training centers, and of which Indra has delivered more than 40 units.

This new system will enable training for vehicle, vessel, and aircraft gunners. The unprecedented flexibility offered by virtual reality enables a single training module to be used to train soldiers with completely different requirements.

The simulator combines the real world and the virtual world to offer soldiers a fluid experience between both environments that enhances the feeling of realism.

The soldier is placed on a platform that simulates the movements and vibrations of helicopters, vessels or vehicles as they move through the virtual world.

Soldiers hold an actual, heavy weapon in their hands, so they can feel the recoil in every shot. Through the goggles, however, soldiers see only a computer’ generated version of the weapon.

Intensive use of virtual reality opens the door to a vast number of possibilities for both civilian and military training. This is one of the many lines of development for the future of simulation, and Indra is leading the way that the industry will follow.

The future of simulation

Virtual technology offers a great deal of freedom for subjects to go through a low-cost training session of an operation as many times as they need to before facing the real one.

It will accelerate, improve and increase the number of hours of training that soldiers receive before moving on to on-site maneuvers and complementary exercises, which are much more expensive and complex to organize for any army.

These systems will facilitate online training in the future, and will be available to anyone who needs it. Unnecessary travel is avoided, training is more agile, and coordination between units is strengthened.

The use of virtual reality in flight simulators will avoid having to equip each cabin with the real avionics systems on an aircraft, as is currently standard practice. It can also be used to offer training for different aircraft models using a single physical cabin.

This configuration of Morphix Technologies’ Chameleon® Chemical Detection Armband provides responders, law enforcement, and fire scene investigators with an easy-to-use, low-cost tool to identify dangerous levels of toxic chemicals in the investigation after a fire. In today’s modern world where plastics and chemicals are a part of almost everything made, it is important to protect oneself from unseen hazards during and after a fire.

Whether a fire occurs in a residence, business or industrial facility, combustion creates a cocktail of toxic gases in the fire smoke. After a fire has been resolved, fire officials, fire investigators, and law enforcement are called to ascertain whether a fire was criminal or accidental in nature. Even with the fire extinguished, the burn site still produces unseen toxic chemicals. According to a recent article published by NBC News, “modern homes and businesses [are] full of synthetics, plastics, and chemicals that can explode much faster and coat firefighters in a toxic soot.”[1] Since several of these chemicals are not visible or produce a distinct odor, investigators and other personnel may not be aware of the airborne hazards. A CDC/National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health study tracked nearly 30,000 firefighters across the country in 2010 and found higher rates of cancer than the general population.[2] The Chameleon Fire Investigator Safety Kit alerts the investigating team to the potential of toxic gases allowing them to leave the area or take other precautions before an injury can occur.

The Chameleon Fire Investigator Safety Kit can be used alone or in addition to chemical protective suits and masks to identify dangerous levels of a variety of hazardous chemicals. The Kit is an easy-to-use, inexpensive, wearable, reusable armband that can hold up to 10 cassettes, each of which detects a particular toxic chemical and changes color upon detection. The Kit includes one cassette each of the following: ammonia, hydrogen, cyanide, hydrogen, fluoride, hydrogen sulfide, low pH (acid), nitrogen dioxide, phosgene, and sulfur dioxide. Two colors appear in the window when a toxic gas is present and requires no power source or calibration. Unlike current colorimetric, the Chameleon is designed to military standards for use in a wide variety of operating environments including desert heat, arctic cold, tropical conditions, and immersion in salt or fresh water. Morphix Technologies has prioritized its product development based on the advice of the U.S. military and law enforcement agencies, so the Chameleon Chemical Detection Armband cassettes are available for many of the high-risk Toxic Industrial Chemicals (TICs) identified by the U.S. government. Surf’s Up !

It Friday readers! More specifically it’s the Friday right after Memorial Day Weekend, I hope you’ve all had a great weekend.  Folks we’ve got citizens in the Central and Midwest United States that are going through some tough times. So if you’re sick and tiered of Donald J Trump impeachment syndrome, try to reach out to some of those families and lend a hand. Anything that you can do and contribute is a plus.

It’s been a productive week for me so I’m ready to kickoff a shoot the shit. Remember that shoot the shit participants don’t need to know anything about the subject being discussed, they’re free to make any unsupported comment, use uncensored profanity, insult anyone they wish or change the subject altogether. So let’s get in on!

There’s no bounds to American ingenuity so here’s what a couple of guys, who like to surf but find themselves where there is no surf, do.

Notice how the guy behind the boat lets go of the tow rope. He then rides the boat’s wake on his boogie board. Great idea! As long as you don’t take a fall and get caught in the prop. This guy falls a few times but his buddy was much better at it.

 

A number of my readers are precision rifle aficionados and the Ruger RPR (Ruger Precision Rifle) is extremely popular. The rifle will shoot sub-MOA with commercial ammunition and with a couple of tweaks and handloads you can get your groups even tighter. Many of you know that there are 3 generations available but there appears to be some inaccuracies or bettered phrased inconstancies  as to what features define a Gen 1, Gen 2 and Gen 3. So here are the salient differences…

  • The Gen 1 did not have the muzzle brake and it had the Samson Evolution handguard.
  • The Gen 2 has the re-designed Ruger handguard, aluminum bolt shroud and hybrid muzzle break.
  • The Gen 3 has the 15″ free-float M-LOK(r) handguard made of hard anodized aluminum and features M-LOK(r) slots on all four sides. The 12 o’clock rail was eliminated to provide clearance for long range optics with large objective lenses. The bolt body is nitrided for corrosion resistance, smooth operation and durability, Gen 3 also ships  with a hybrid muzzle break.

Undoubtedly, you’ve all heard about the chick that got lost in Maui. I don’t understand how anyone could be lost on that island for 17 days, I’ll explain.

 MAUI

Maui, was created by two, now extinct, volcanoes circled in red. The peak heights are 8,000 to 10,000 feet. Lava flow moved into the ocean waters cooling and forming the bridge that connected the two volcanoes. If you know how to read a topological map MAUI is essentially what we call a saddle. There are condominiums and resorts throughout  the island as well as small communities.

My understanding is that she was lost in the forested area on the north side of the island assuming she was at the center of the red circle on the left all she needed to do is walk downhill in any direction. In 15 kilometers, the longest leg or 3 kilometers, the shortest leg she would have hit a condo or resort.

There are no crocodiles, Boa constrictors, tigers, lions, etc. What you’ll find is pigs (some nice one too), mongoose and the occasional patch of  Maui Wowie, which is a Sativa-dominant landrace strain found in Maui.

Amanda looks like a nice chick and I’d date her, but God I hope she’s not teaching geography!

MDT announces a new CZ 455 inlet option for their Adjustable Core Competition Chassis (ACC). “The ACC is the most advanced competition chassis in the MDT line up,” says Matt Hornback, Public Relations Manager, “it was a logical next step to make it available for the popular CZ 455 rimfire.”

The ACC CZ 455 option was designed for use as a primary rifle for competing in precision rimfire matches to provide competitors more accessory options and greater control over weight and balance adjustability. The ability to mimic the weight and feel of a centerfire rifle greatly increases training potential with rimfire calibers.

The weight system is integrated in the buttstock, barrel channel and forend; allowing over 9 additional pounds to be added to the rifle chassis assembly. This added weight allows the shooter to perfectly balance their rifle for shooting in a variety of different scenarios.

The ACC comes complete with a Skeleton Rifle Stock with a 13.375″-14.375″ length of pull. The Skeleton Rifle Stock also has a steel butt pad plate for added weight and has a dedicated space to add even more weight to the stock if desired.  The ACC Chassis features a full Arca rail the entire length of the 17.75” forend and can accept a traditional pistol grip or the new MDT adjustable vertical grip.

(May, 2019) – Walk The Talk America (WTTA), a non-profit organization working to foster relationships between firearms companies and firearms owners with the mental health community, has partnered with a Reno, Nevada-based counseling agency, Zephyr Wellness.

Founder of WTTA, Mike Sodini, a former firearms importer and manufacturing executive, has taken tremendous strides in the gun community over this past year with a goal of bringing together the gun and mental health communities and removing many of the stigmas that exist between the two. “More than 100 million people in the United States own firearms. That is a lot of people that might not reach out for help for themselves or their children, especially if they are misinformed into thinking that reaching out will deprive them of their 2nd amendment rights,” Sodini explained.

A Pew Research Center poll conducted in September and October of 2018 found the same percentage of people – 89 percent – of both Democrats and Republicans believed that people with mental illness should not be able to purchase guns.

“That kind of mentality is preventing people from getting help,” Jake Wiskerchen, Zephyr’s co-founder and clinical director, said. “And in the process, we’re seeing continued deaths by suicide, ongoing family conflict, unchecked substance abuse, and so on. If people believe they’ll lose their right to own a firearm simply because they’re sick, then we need to change that. This partnership is a good first step.”

“The goal of this partnership is to remove the stigma that individuals suffering from mental illness should not own firearms. Many of these people have legally purchased firearms for purposes of self-defense, hunting, or target shooting. When a firearm owning individual starts to suffer from depression, substance abuse or many of the other classified definitions of mental illness, he or she should immediately seek the help of a trained and qualified counselor without fear of repercussion,” Sodini added. “It is because of the misinformation on both sides, that a person does not seek help and that potentially can lead to an unfortunate circumstance. Our partnership seeks to remove that wall and create a bridge.”

Wiskerchen highlighted the need for clinicians to understand gun culture. “We in the healthcare profession have an obligation to be culturally competent,” he said. “Starting this summer, we plan to host competency trainings for mental health providers to embrace the culture of gun ownership. Statistically, half of our clients either own a gun or live with someone who does, and we need more accurate understanding of that dynamic.”

It’s not often that you find an exceptional firearm with so many well selected and implemented enhancements as what the folks at Geneseo delivered when they introduced the SAINT Edge 5.56 pistol. Everything from its superb Maxim Defense pistol brace, ambidextrous selector, M-LOK handguard and single action modular match trigger make the Edge pistol the best rifle caliber AR pistol on the market.

I try to avoid making absolute statements, but I feel completely comfortable in saying that you won’t find anything on the market that even comes close in features and performance to SA’s SAINT Edge pistol at anywhere near its price point.

The remarkable accomplishment took place at Talladega Marksmanship Park on May 15 at the 2019 World Speed Shooting Championships. KC competed with his ZEV KC OZ9, Limcat 2011and Volquartsen Scorpion pistols and Howard Leight Impact Sport MULTICAM hearing protection.

“My 6th Open Division victory was very special, and being my first competition under the Howard Leight banner only made it better,” says Eusebio. “My Impact Sport MULTICAM electronic hearing protection not only helped me hear the report of the steel targets better, but also protected my ears from the loud concussion of my pistol.

A hybrid design that combines the best elements of leather and synthetic, the Switchback is fully ambidextrous and can be carried in the strongside or crossdraw positions (as shown). The main body of the holster is constructed of layered synthetics, beginning with an outer layer of durable black ballistic nylon. Beneath that is closed cell foam that imparts stiffness and sturdiness to the holster body. Finally, a layer of 420 denier gunmetal-colored packcloth lines the holster.
