Rebel Single Stage Press – The next evolution in single stage press technology, the new Rebel press is constructed from a solid cast iron frame, meticulously machined to exacting tolerances. Capable of delivering consistent loads with each movement of the ambidextrous handle, the Rebel Single Stage Press is standard with a spent primer system that allows primers to be dispensed directly into a trash can under the press ensuring that no primers are spilled in the work area. Additional standard features include machined reference surfaces and a Zerk fitting for those instances where lubrication is required, along with an extra wide base for enhanced stability. Featuring the tallest opening of any RCBS single stage press, the new Rebel press is backed by a lifetime warranty.

Uniflow III Powder Measure – Designed as the most accurate volumetric dispenser on the market, the Uniflow III Powder Measure features machined reference surfaces and exacting tolerances for consistent, reliable measuring. With its one metering cylinder, both rifle and pistol loaders no longer need to purchase an additional rotor or metering cylinder. Now, the one metering screw can do it all, saving users both time and money. For enhanced precision, the new measure is capable of throwing charges from 0.5 to 120 grains. Federal Expands Syntech Options for Target Shooters and Personal Defenders

ANOKA, Minnesota – January 15, 2020 – Federal’s Syntech changed the landscape of target ammunition when it launched its all-new Range ammunition, and now Federal—the largest ammunition manufacturer in the world—expands its Syntech family of products. Federal’s latest offerings include new Practice & Defend Packs and Federal Premium Solid Core featuring Syntech technology.
These new products will be announced and on display in Booth No. 14551 at the 2020 SHOT Show, January 21-24 at the Sands Expo Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. The new Practice & Defend Packs are shipping in January 2020 and Federal Premium Solid Core is scheduled to start shipping in the Spring of 2020.
The original 2017 product launch of Federal’s Syntech Range ammunition included 9mm Luger 115-grain; 40 S&W 165-grain; and 45 Auto 230-grain. Its polymer-encapsulated Syntech bullet prevents metal-on-metal contact between the bullet and bore, while eliminating copper and lead fouling. Combined with specialized clean-burning powders, your gun will stay cleaner, longer, so you can shoot more—and shoot better. The exclusive Catalyst primer provides the cleanest most consistent ignition possible—that’s why it received the 2017 NRA Golden Bullseye Award.
Since then, the company has greatly expanded its Syntech product offerings beyond ammo to smack targets at the range. Federal’s Syntech ammunition now include several training, self-defense, competition and specialty options. In 2018, the company expanded the product line by introducing a 9mm Luger 124-grain option. New Practice & Defend Packs pair self-defense loads proven by law enforcement with ballistically identical training ammunition for a combination like no other. These convenient combo packs include 50 HST Personal Defense loads and 50 Syntech Training Match rounds. All produce identical velocities, trajectories and point of impact for the most realistic training and utmost protection. It is available in four product options including two options in 9mm Luger, plus an option in 40 S&W and 45 Auto.
New Federal Premium Solid Core can take down anything from hogs to bears. The all-new line of handgun loads hits game harder with a tough, flat-nose lead bullet that holds together while blowing through bone, providing high weight retention and deep penetration. Syntech polymer jacket technology reduces the friction and leading that plague hard cast bullets. This deep-penetrating, hard bullet holds together while blowing through bone. It is intended for hunting, and as protection against dangerous animals. Solid Core is available in six offerings ranging from 9mm Luger to 44 Rem. Magnum.

INDRA, SIXTEMA, AND ADANTIA TEST THE FIRST ENVIRONMENTAL DRONE THAT PROTECTS RIVERS AND COASTAL AREAS, AS PART OF THE UAVS INITIATIVE

Madrid, January 15, 2020.- Indra, one of the leading global technology and consulting companies, in a temporary joint venture with the Galician companies Sixtema and Adantia, has successfully tested the first environmental drone that automates the collection of samples in rivers and coastal areas and offers real-time information on water quality parameters. The system will be ready for launch onto the market this year.

This innovative solution, designed to reinforce the security and protection of natural resources, is part of the Mar 2 project of the Civil UAV Initiative, the initiative promoted by the Regional Government of Galicia (Spain) to make Galicia a leader in the development of civil drones.

The demonstration took place on January 8 at Eiras reservoir, which supplies drinking water to Vigo and other towns in the area. The test was attended by the Minister of the Xunta de Galicia for Infrastructure and Mobility, Ethel Vázquez, and the Economy, Employment and Industry Minister, Francisco Conde, as well as Patricia Argerey, director of the Galician Innovation Agency.

Within the scope of the project, Indra has been responsible for the development of automatic devices for capturing samples and data, in collaboration with the Galician company Aeromedia.

The system will help the Xunta de Galicia to control the quality of the region’s water and preserve river and coastal ecosystems.

It will multiply the number of samples that can be collected and will provide unprecedented speed in the detection of any spillage or anomaly.

It will also facilitate the collection of samples in places that are difficult to reach, reinforcing the safety of the professionals involved in these tasks.

The unmanned aerial system is based on a multirotor with a maximum take-off weight of 25 kg, whose control system has been optimized. It has several devices and sensors to automatically determine the depth and state of the bottom of rivers and the coastal seabed, measure the height of the photic zone (that in which sunlight penetrates), capture and exploit in real time water quality data and take samples, both at specific depth levels and throughout the entire photic zone.

The new drone is a unique system, distinguished by integrating a large number of capacities into a small device, easy to transport and operate.

It makes it possible to collect data and samples without having a boat available immediately. Using it saves time and will offer much more accurate water monitoring.

Next challenge: protecting the oceans

The MAR 2 project for the Automation of Oceanographic Sampling through Unmanned Vehicles is part of the “Solutions” program of the Civil UAV Initiative, in which high- technological products and services that can reach the market and be commercialized quickly are developed.

Within the scope of this initiative, Indra is working in collaboration with the Galician companies Seadrone and the Galician Technology Center AIMEN in another project that will improve the collection of data and samples in coastal and oceanic waters.

It is an optionally manned ship that will have a robotic system to capture data and water samples and their subsequent processing. This system will be able to collect, classify, label, store and automatically conserve all samples.

This makes it possible to maintain surveillance of very large sea areas and collect high-quality information at a reduced cost.

Indra is also the company that the Spanish government has nominated to coordinate Spanish participation in FCAS, the most ambitious European program for the development of a system of systems based on a next-generation aircraft that will fly alongside several UAVs.

Bentonville, AR (January 15, 2020) – Hatsan has re-invigorated the proven AT44 platform of PCP air rifle with the release of its new AT44 Pump Action QES.  The new design features fiber optic front and rear sights, a QuietEnergy fully shrouded barrel, and a quick-fire pump action system. Outdoor Edge Files Patent Infringement Case Against American Outdoor Brands

DENVER (Jan. 15, 2020) — On January 14, 2020, the Denver based knife company, Outdoor Edge Cutlery Corp. filed a patent infringement complaint in Colorado Federal Court against American Outdoor Brands Corporation for a replaceable razor blade knife that Outdoor Edge President, David Bloch designed and first brought to market in 2013. Outdoor Edge’s patented RazorSafeTM series of knives feature both fixed blade and folding knife models with a proprietary replaceable razor blade and blade support system that offers increased strength with safe, easy blade changes at the push of a button. Outdoor Edge’s RazorSafeTM knife series has been distributed worldwide for over seven years and has been extremely popular with hunters and outdoor enthusiasts.
The complaint asserts that one of the new knives American Outdoor Brands displayed for sale at the Archery Trade Association Show in Indianapolis, January 9-11, 2020, under the “Old Timer” brand infringes several Outdoor Edge patents. “Outdoor Edge is a leading knife brand focused on innovation and bringing exciting new products to market”, says Outdoor Edge’s, David Bloch. “We work closely with our intellectual property attorneys to file patent applications on each significant new product and will aggressively enforce our patent rights against any competitor who copies our ideas and infringes our patents.”

VIRGINIA BEACH, Virginia – January 14, 2020 – Blackhawk, a leader in the law enforcement and military equipment realm for over 20 years, announced today that it will participate in a contract for the French Armament General Directorate to equip newly furnished Glock G17 Gen5 pistols with new T-Series L3D holsters. The French Army recently selected the G17 Gen5 and multiple accessories to be used as their standard handgun and the new equipment, including the Blackhawk T-Series holster, will be distributed to the French troops within the first months of 2020.

As part of the contract, over 75,000 pistols, holsters and related accessories will be provided to the French Army over the next three years. The tender, launched in early March 2019, was open to multiple possible candidates who were asked to submit their entries for review. As part of the try-outs conducted by the French DGA, all equipment was subjected to a series of stringent tests to asses both the reliability and user-friendliness of the offered pistols and their accessories.

Testing done by Federal ammunition engineers in their Anoka, Minnesota facilities showed typical results of 13 to 13 ½ inches of penetration in bare gel and 13 ¼ to 14 inches through heavy clothing. Test gun barrel lengths were from common, compact handguns ranging from 2 ¾ to 3 ½ inches. The bullet and load are also fine-tuned to ensure delivery of consistent performance across all handgun platforms, including ones with longer barrels, to stay within that 13- to 14-inch goal range.
Hydra-Shok Deep has quickly become a favorite of those who rely on ammunition to protect themselves and their families. The product lineup now consists of four loads with the new 380 Auto 99-grain being the latest. Also available are 9mm Luger 135-grain, 40 S&W 165-grain and 45 Auto 210-grain. Federal Launches New Terminal Ascent All-Range Hunting Ammunition

ANOKA, Minnesota – January 13, 2020 – Federal, the world’s largest sporting ammunition manufacturer is introducing its all-new Terminal Ascent—the best hunting bullet ever built within the 98-year history of the company. This new line of all-range ammunition will be on display in Booth No. 14551 at the 2019 SHOT Show, January 21-24 at the Sands Expo Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
“The new Terminal Ascent blends the features of top match-style bullet designs with the industry’s best bonding technology and components to deliver any-range accuracy and reliable expansion even at low velocities,” said Federal Centerfire and Handgun Ammunition Product Director Mike Holm. “This outstanding bullet design provides high weight retention, deep penetration and lethal terminal performance, both up close and at extreme distances.”
Terminal Ascent features several key elements that make up its superior overall design.
First is the solid-shanked and bonded bullet construction. A bonded bullet has a lead core bonded to the copper jacket around that core. Its solid copper shank and bonded lead core retain weight for deep penetration and energy dump, delivering extremely effective wound channels and terminal performance, even at velocities as low as 1,400 fps—speeds typically seen 1,200 yards downrange in the 200-grain 30-caliber loads.
Second is the AccuChannel grooving. Like many of the most versatile bullets, Terminal Ascent features grooving along the shank to improve accuracy across a range of rifles, while decreasing barrel wear and fouling. However, unlike conventional grooving, the AccuChannel’s highly technical shape accomplishes these goals with only a minimal increase in drag. Both the number and location of grooves are tailored to specific caliber. No other bullet has this grooving technology.
Third is the Slipstream heat-resistant polymer tip. The Slipstream Tip features patent-pending hollow-core technology. A small cavity runs the length of the shank all the way up to just below the point itself. That point breaks free upon impact, allowing fluid to enter the hollow core, where it generates pressure and easy expansion, even at low velocities. The Slipstream Tip’s hollow core sets it apart from all other polymer tips on the market—but it’s also unique in its high resistance to the elevated temperatures a bullet experiences during flight. It is superior to all other options.
In addition to the AccuChannel and Slipstream Tip, Federal engineers incorporated other important features to boost ballistic coefficient (BC), delivering flat trajectories and less wind drift.
Finally, Terminal Ascent also features high-end nickel plating that is corrosion-resistant, to give the cartridge an outstanding appearance with smooth operation. And the use of clean-burning propellant and an ultra-reliable, sealed primer—as well as its neon electric-blue polymer tip—produces a sleek-looking, high-performance cartridge that’s sure to impress.
“The result of all these design elements is both close-range (higher velocity) and long-range (lower velocity) terminal performance with both accuracy and reliability, plus great looks,” said Holm. “In a marketplace filled with competitor loads that make tradeoffs—sacrificing short-range terminal performance for long-range expansion, or toughness for accuracy—Terminal Ascent does it all and stands alone.”
The new line of ammunition will be initially launched in 11 cartridge options which includes: 6.5 PRC, 280 Ackley Improved, and 28 Nosler. Federal also offers its Premium Terminal Ascent as components for handloaders.

RAFAEL releases new video footage from SPIKE SR Weapon system demo

January 13, 2020 – In a recent series of tests in the Negev Desert in southern Israel, RAFAEL demonstrated the SPIKE SR (Short Range) Precision guided missile, proving its unique lethal capability.

SPIKE SR is an electro-optical guided missile designed for shoulder launch by infantry. It is the smallest and lightest variant of the SPIKE Missile family, weighing only 10kg, in use today by several nations, including within NATO.

The entire SPIKE Family is now operational in 34 nations, with more than 33,000 rounds produced and supplied, and as many as 45 different platforms integrated, including attack helicopters, ground vehicles, marine vessels and more.

SPIKE SR was designed for the maneuvering forces, allowing standoff engagement ranges of 2000 meters, formerly covered only by heavier ATGM‘s. Designed as a portable, fully disposable munition the SPIKE SR carries a powerful High Explosive Anti-Tank (HEAT) warhead, joined with a frontal precursor for clearing of ERA (Explosive Reactive Armor) tiles

During the demonstration, operators hit targets located 2000 meters away, presenting both a great standoff range to enhance the survivability of maneuvering infantry, as well as lethality, with impressive armor penetration results.

The Federal Aviation Administration has been busy

It’s been a busy week, at least for me. I’ve been digesting the changes that the FAA is implementing. I’m still working my way through 14 CFR Parts 1, 47, 48, 89, 91, and 107, Remote Identification of Unmanned Aircraft Systems. Three Hundred nineteen pages discussing the proposed changes. I’ll post the document for you.

If you are in the film industry, or use a UAV for agricultural surveying, landscape photography or work in areas where WiFi and 3G is unavailable, I recommend that, at the very least, you read the Executive Summary so you’ll get the 30,000 foot view of what is coming. The FAA is looking at a 2 to 3 year implementation window from the date the new rules go into effect.

The FAA is also changing they way it handles airman certification. By airman certification they mean anyone pilot certificate including what the FAA calls Unmanned General, otherwise know as a Remote Pilot certification. I’ll post a Webinar video that you will want to sit through. The system goes into effect 13 January 2020. If you fly UAVs under Part 107 you are included in this requirement. Recreational drone pilots are exempt. So that is important and impacts your testing and retesting process.

So without further ado, let’s get this shoot the shit started.

Below is the FAA’s proposed Remote Identification of Unmanned Aircraft Systems requirements document. If you use a UAV for any activity read the Executive Summary at a minimum. I’m still working my way through it but the summary will give you a decent understanding of what’s being proposed.

Drone pilots and operators have expressed some concern about the scope of the information transmitted, which under the proposal would be available to the public and local law enforcement. Those concerns are valid in that they could represent confidentiality issues. I’m more concerned about the airborne technology, frequency spectrum and the impact on gross weight. Pilots may also be operating in areas where there is no WiFi or 3G service. So, those are real issues that require a detailed plan from the FAA and not just a wish list.

On January 13, 2020, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will launch improvements to the way it tests all applicants for an FAA airman certificate. This applies for all certificated pilots (including drone pilots). One of the most important changes is the requirement that all applicants obtain an FAA Tracking Number (FTN) by creating an Integrated Airman Certification and Rating Application (IACRA) profile prior to registering for a knowledge test. You’ll note that all existing airmen or individuals testing for airmen certification are required to have FAA Tracking Number (FTN). If you are not currently licensed, the system will issue an FTN after you’ve completed the online registration process. Do not lose this number!

If you are already licensed your current certificate number is your FTN. See the figure below.

Your Remote Pilot card should look like the card shown above. Note the certificate number line, the number next to that line is your FTN and it’s the number you’ll need to enter when registering.

Here’s the takeaway from the Remote Identification of Unmanned Aircraft Systems requirements. Flying a drone is going to be a much more complex issue; undoubtedly driving higher equipment costs. Any Part 107 operation requires full compliance. Recreational flying will also be much more restrictive.

The MPA Ultra Lite Hunter Rifle – SS includes a precision gun drilled, reamed and honed MPA 416 Stainless Hand Lapped Barrel, chambered by MPA (Zero Runout system). The barrel is pull button rifled and the chamber is indicated within 0.0001” or less to the bore of the rifle. It is a #3 Contour Standard, but others are available (could affect the rifle weight). It is a crowned barrel that can be threaded but would require going to a #5 Contour at a minimum.
