Using a 185 grain, lead-free, solid copper hollow point (SCHP) bullet, this round achieved a muzzle velocity of 980 FPS from 4.3” barrels in the FBI gel test. Using shorter barreled guns, such as the 2.5” Smith & Wesson Night Guard resulted in industry-leading expansion.

By producing this Steinel defensive round with the lead-free SCHP bullet in a brass casing, the projectile rapidly expands uniformly when it hits a soft target and is much less likely to over-penetrate the target. The 45 ACP self-defense round has an expansion rate of greater than .8” and penetration of 13.” Steinel’s 45 ACP Defensive SCHP has proven very reliable with no feeding issues and consistent shots in a variety of 45 style pistols from 1911’s to revolvers. This round is perfect for concealed carry, training, and just doing a little range time.

Firearm Industry Praises Senate Passage of Great American Outdoors Act

NEWTOWN, Conn. — NSSF®, the firearm industry trade association, praised the U.S. Senate’s passage of the Great American Outdoors Act, (H.R. 1957). This historic legislation, which received overwhelming bipartisan support, is among the most meaningful legislative measures for sportsmen conservationists ever. The Senate’s approval is a major step forward toward delivering on the promise of sustained wildlife conservation, public land hunting and recreational shooting on behalf of current and future generations of outdoorsmen and women.

“This is a monumental achievement that demonstrates a continued legacy of bipartisanship on wildlife, public lands and outdoor recreation issues,” said Lawrence G. Keane, NSSF Senior Vice President and General Counsel. “When enacted, this legislation will fulfill a promise to future generations that conservation, access to public lands and outdoor recreation including hunting and recreational shooting will be safeguarded well into the next century.”

The Great American Outdoors Act, introduced in the Senate by Sens. Cory Gardner (R-Colo.) and Steve Daines (R-Mont.), would ensure full, dedicated funding for the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) and address the maintenance backlog of public lands and water projects across the United States. Those projects include wildlife habitat conservation, road and trail repairs and increased recreational access to our public lands and waters.

The legislation next heads to the U.S. House of Representatives for approval before it goes to the White House for signature, for which President Donald Trump has already indicated his support.

NSSF is especially grateful for Sens. Gardner and Daines sponsoring the legislation, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) for placing this as priority legislation in the Senate and for Sens. Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) and Joe Manchin (D-W.V.) for their bipartisan leadership. The legislation was introduced with 55 bipartisan co-sponsors.

The legislation builds upon the success of the NSSF-supported John D. Dingell Jr. Conservation, Management, and Recreation Act, which also enjoyed overwhelming bipartisan support and was signed into law by President Trump in 2019.

GAOA will provide $9.5 billion over five years for deferred federal public lands and waters maintenance projects, with $3 billion set aside for infrastructure restoration on hundreds of millions of acres for increased access for America’s sportsmen and women. The Great American Outdoors Act will also provide $900 million annually for permanent funding for the Land and Water Conservation Fund. The legislation would also ensure that a significant portion of LWCF funding is dedicated to increasing public access for hunting, recreational shooting, fishing and outdoor recreation.

Sportsmen and women play a critical conservation role in the nation’s wildlife resources and to date, hunters and purchasers of firearms and ammunition, collectively, are the single largest source of wildlife conservation funding, contributing more than $13 billion since the enactment of the Pittman-Robertson Federal Aid in Wildlife Restoration Act.

Firearm Industry Disappointed By U.S. Supreme Court’s Refusal to Accept Second Amendment Cases

NEWTOWN, Conn. — NSSF®, the firearm industry trade association, expressed profound disappointment and frustration by the U.S. Supreme Court’s refusal to accept any of nearly a dozen Second Amendment-related appeals.

The Supreme Court requires just four justices to agree to hear an appeal at the nation’s highest court. Four justices, including Associate Justices Clarence Thomas, Thomas Alito, Neil Gorsuch, and Brett Kavanaugh have all expressed concern over the court’s decade long unwillingness to address infringements on Second Amendment rights. Justice Thomas previously noted, “…the Second Amendment is a disfavored right in this Court.” That pattern has not altered with today’s petition denials. Justice Thomas, again, drew attention to this fact in his dissent.

“But today, faced with a petition challenging just such a restriction on citizens’ Second Amendment rights, the Court simply looks the other way,” Justice Thomas wrote in his dissent.

“What is clear is the four associate justices could have likely voted to hear any of the ten petitions, but not all four chose to bring the cases before the court,” said Lawrence G. Keane, NSSF Senior Vice President and General Counsel. “It makes one wonder if one or more of the other conservative justices are disinclined to accept Second Amendment cases because they lack confidence that Chief Justice Roberts, the swing vote on these firearm-related cases, could be trusted to interpret the Second Amendment as written, or faithfully apply the precedence of the Heller and McDonald decisions, both of which he ruled in the (5-4) majority.”

The NSSF filed amicus briefs on two of the cases denied by the Supreme Court. Those cases, Worman v Healey and Mance v Barr, centered on fundamental rights to acquire firearms to exercise the right to keep and bear arms. The Supreme Court’s denial lets stand Massachusetts’ ban on commonly-owned modern sporting rifles and a ban on the sale of handguns across state lines. No other fundamental constitutional right ends at a state’s border. The court also denied Pena v Horan, a challenge to California’s Unsafe Handgun Act that bans handguns in common use for lawful purposes, which the firearm industry trade association was closely monitoring.

“The court is ignoring its’ own precedents and the willful ignorance of lower courts to apply precedence of the landmark 2008 Heller and 2010 McDonald decisions,” Keane explained. “Heller protected the pre-existing common law individual rights to possess and carry on your person firearms that are in ‘common use.’ Nearly 18 million modern sporting rifles are in circulation today, used for lawful purposes daily, including recreational target shooting, hunting and self-defense. McDonald found that Second Amendment rights are enforceable against states seeking to deny those rights of law-abiding citizens. As several Justices have written in recent years, both precedents are being badly misinterpreted by the lower appellate courts, or as Justice Thomas at least believes blatantly ignored. Now, a dozen years since Heller, what is abundantly clear the Roberts-led Supreme Court is allowing the Second Amendment to be treated as a constitutional orphan.”

The Emotionally Distressed Person's Guide to Doing a Perfect Set ...It’s Friday readers and we’ve made it through another week. It’s been 11 days since the killing of George Floyd by Minneapolis police. That man was arrested for allegedly passing a bad $20 bill to purchase cigarettes and ended up being executed by inept police officers. I don’t know about you but I wouldn’t know a bad $20 from a prophylactic and there are quite a few floating around. Another interesting point is why didn’t the store clerk, who reported Floyd to the police, refuse the transaction. They have pens that can be used to determine the legitimacy of the bill. What an utter and complete disaster the event turned out to be!

So, if you’re feeling stressed out by all this, which is understandable, please don’t kill yourself, become a drug addict, serial killer or download behavioral science apps. Deal with stress and signs of depression by exercising ,frequent fornication and shoot the shits. You’ll feel better almost immediately, and you wont blow a wad of cash on  jackasses who majored in psychology so they could understand themselves. I’ve talked about this before but keep in mind that the highest concentration of mental health practitioners are in CA, NY and Philadelphia that should tell you all you need to know.

For those of you not familiar with a shoot the shit, I’ll introduce it by calling it a social interaction during which any topic can be discussed; participants don’t need to know anything about the topic, are free to make unsupported comments, use uncensured profanity, insult anyone they wish or altogether change the subject. Shoot the shits are best held face to face but in this time of social distancing Zoom, Skype or WebEx are equally suitable mediums. Ok let’s shoot the shit.

As tragic as Mr. Floyd’s murder was, he’s done the country an enormous favor. Through the loss of his life he revealed the level of ineptitude in government, particularly at the state and local levels, just look at the Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone (CHAZ) movement in Seattle. The aftermath of the subsequent rioting and looting, to exclude peaceful protest, is a national embarrassment. The communities and businesses that governors and mayors were obligated to protect were destroyed by individuals who hijacked Floyd’s death to destroy and steal. If that wasn’t bad enough, most of these elected officials are calling for the defunding of police and/or dismantling police altogether. It’s unbelievable!

The defund police movement features supporters like Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez who is opposed to police departments getting TANKS from the DoD. AOC is cute and I’d date her but she has to be intellectually challenged. The program that provides for DoD assistance to police departments is called the 1033 Program. From 1997 to 2014 the most commonly obtained item from the 1033 program is ammunition. Other most commonly requested items include cold weather clothing, sand bags, medical supplies, sleeping bags, flashlights and electrical wiring. The 1033 program also transfers office equipment such as fax machines, which many smaller police departments are unable to afford. The DLA also offers tactical armored vehicles, weapons, watercraft, and aircraft. The tactical armored vehicles are not tanks they’re MRAP vehicles used to protect officers as they approach a high risk situation and / or evacuate hostages.

Prior to the 1033 Program, law enforcement budgets were so stretched that departments couldn’t afford ammunition, let alone update firearms and communications equipment.

Now, I criticized AOC because she’s been very vocal but it points to a more serious problem and that is that we have a Democrat Congress advancing legislation that has no idea on how to address a problem that is largely a fabrication. They want to hit local law enforcement budgets so they can fund social workers and psychologists interaction with perpetrators, are you kidding me folks!

NEWTOWN, Conn. — Project ChildSafe® and NSSF® are emphasizing gun safety as a critical part of home safety as National Safety Month kicks off, and as the nationwide surge in firearm sales continues and includes millions of first-time buyers.
“With the start of June and National Safety Month, now is a good time to remind existing and new gun owners of the importance of securely storing firearms when not in use,” said Joe Bartozzi, NSSF’s President and CEO. “Particularly with children continuing to be at home and many parents returning to work as states open back up, it’s important we all take steps to practice firearm safety as part of our broader home safety efforts.”
Project ChildSafe recently launched a social media campaign with reminders on general home safety tips, including storing firearms responsibly when not in use, with links to resources on how to do so. “As gun owners, we want to help minimize demands on health care workers and first responders by emphasizing home safety, and firearm safety in particular, so together we can help prevent accidents,” Bartozzi said.
There is also a new section on the Project ChildSafe website specifically for new gun owners, along with a robust resource library of videos, infographics, tip sheets, quizzes and other materials gun owners can use, discuss with their families and friends and share on their own social media pages, blogs and websites. 
“As gun owners we all have a responsibility to learn how to use and secure firearms responsibly,” Bartozzi said. “A big part of that responsibility also involves passing that knowledge on to others – it’s the best thing we can do to protect the people we love.”

As of May 30th, 49 out of our 50 states are in some form of reopening for business and pleasure, with New Jersey the only state still shut down. The New York Times has published an article that shows, state by state, the level of reopening.

For almost all of us in the first responder industry, we stayed open for business, if not for our frontline customers, then to adapt our businesses to accommodate the massive and immediate needs of our medical and first responders.

Now, as we enter June, we slowly return to what is considered the new normal in business, which means maintaining social distance, better retail hygiene and a greater awareness of how our employees are feeling health wise. Some of the retail arms of our industry are now opening their doors to civilian customers with new guidelines to keep both customer and employee safe. NAUMD member 5.11 is one of the companies slowly adapting to our new normal.

“Character is most often shown in the most difficult times,” 5.11’s CEO, Francisco Morales, said in a press release. “My pride for the character of the 5.11 team has never been greater.
