NSSF, ATF, DOJ Emphasize ‘Don’t Lie for the Other Guy’

NEWTOWN, Conn. – RICHMOND, Va. — As part of an ongoing national effort to help prevent illegal “straw” purchases of firearms, the National Shooting Sports Foundation® (NSSF®) and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) are reminding the Richmond public that stiff penalties are in place for individuals convicted of such unlawful purchases. The campaign is in its’ 20th year and is a cornerstone of the cooperative relationship of the firearm industry, law enforcement and retailers.

Billboard, radio, streaming audio and digital advertisements for the Don’t Lie for the Other GuyTM program have been purchased by NSSF in key locations throughout the region with the message: “Buy a gun for someone who can’t and buy yourself 10 years in jail. Don’t Lie for the Other Guy.”

The month-long public awareness campaign was officially launched today with a short program at Colonial Shooting Academy, in Richmond, Va. Present at the event were representatives of the ATF Washington, D.C. Field Division, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Easter District of Virginia and NSSF.

More than 3.2 million impressions will be delivered via billboards, digital, and social media advertising and 30-second radio spots airing on local stations and streaming audio services. Richmond was chosen for this special campaign by ATF. No taxpayer dollars are used. The program is funded in full by the firearms industry.

“As evidenced today, the firearms industry is proud of its longstanding cooperative relationship with the ATF and the entire law enforcement community by assisting them in their efforts to combat the criminal acquisition and misuse of firearms,” said NSSF Lawrence G. Keane, NSSF Senior Vice President and General Counsel.

“Don’t Lie” is a cooperative program ATF and NSSF, the trade association for the firearms and ammunition industry. The effort was developed more than two decades ago to raise public awareness about the seriousness of the crime of purchasing a firearm for someone who cannot legally do so. The program also helps ATF educate firearms retailers to be better prepared to deter potential straw purchases. The public campaign drives home the message that anyone attempting an illegal firearm purchase faces a stiff federal felony penalty of up to 10 years in jail or up to $250,000 in fines.

To legally purchase a firearm, a person must be able to pass an FBI National Instant Criminal Background Check and fully comply with state and local laws. When a criminal knows he cannot pass this check, he may try to induce a friend or other person to make the purchase on his behalf, which is known as a straw purchase and is a felony.

This public awareness campaign constitutes only part of the Don’t Lie for the Other Guy outreach effort. The full Don’t Lie for the Other Guy program, which also involves educating firearms retailers to better detect and prevent straw purchases, has been rolled out in major cities throughout the country. In the retailer segment, federal firearms licensees are provided a Don’t Lie for the Other Guy retailer kit containing a training video and informational brochure for storeowners and staff, as well as point-of-purchase displays aimed to deter illegal straw purchases.

In September, Rafael began delivery of the first Iron Dome battery to the US. In August 2019 the United States and Israel signed an agreement for the procurement of two Iron Dome Defense System batteries. The first battery is being delivered in record time, and the second battery will be delivered in the near future within the framework of the agreement. These batteries will be employed in the defense of US troops against a variety of ballistic and aerial threats.

In August, Rafael and its partner Raytheon announced the signing of a joint venture to establish an Iron Dome Weapon System production facility in the United States. Biden-Harris Would Weaponize ATF Against Firearm Retailers

NEWTOWN, Conn. – NSSF®, the trade association for the firearm industry, is focusing on former Vice President Joe Biden’s radical antigun campaign promise turn the Bureau of Alcohol. Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) from its’ mission as the nation’s firearms regulatory bureau into a bludgeon to wield against firearm retailers to close off the means by which law-abiding Americans obtain firearms.

“The Biden-Harris ticket will weaponize the ATF against retailers to close them down for even minor clerical errors in inspections,” said Lawrence G. Keane, NSSF Senior Vice President and General Counsel. “This a promise Senator Kamala Harris made from the campaign stage. She has vowed to turn the ATF from an agency which assists family-owned firearm retail businesses to stay within the overwhelming labyrinth of federal and state laws and regulations to one that carries a heavy hammer and will shutter federally licensed retailers for minor administrative errors.”

“I will require that for any gun dealer that breaks the law, the ATF take their license,” said Sen. Harris in a 2019 presidential town hall event.

Currently, ATF Industry Operations Inspectors (IOI) conduct inspections of federally licensed firearm retailers to ensure compliance and educate retailers on firearm laws and regulations. It is common for IOIs to suggest improvements for minor violations to ensure compliance. Under the Biden-Harris plan, that would change from a teachable moment to improve administrative errors to one of license revocation. A single violation can be interpreted as breaking the law and the 1934 Gun Control Act allows ATF to revoke a federal firearm license for a single violation. Former Vice President Joe Biden agrees with this plan. He outlined on his campaign website his intent to restructure the ATF to become a constrictor on the lawful commerce of firearms.

The Biden-Harris campaign promises to return the ATF to what the nation experienced during the Obama-Biden administration when the bureau was embroiled in the ill-fated “Operation Fast and Furious” scandal that cost the life of U.S. Border Patrol Brian Terry. The ATF’s involvement was revealed to be under the direction of the Obama Administration’s Department of Justice when the bureau allowed illegally purchased firearms to cross the United States-Mexico border and failed to track them. Firearms from that bungled operation were recovered at crimes scenes on both side of the border, including a .50 caliber rifle recovered during the arrest of Mexican drug lord and cartel kingpin Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman.

Former Vice President Biden has perpetuated the false narrative that the Obama-Biden administration was scandal-free. Operation Fast and Furious is but one of many that never received a full accounting.

Trevor Cotter, Albert Montanez, Chase Rains, and Garrett Schutz competed at the 2020 New Mexico Section Championship, held Oct. 2 – 3, 2020 in Clovis, New Mexico. These same shooters, minus Schutz, competed on Oct. 4, 2020, at the 2020 North Texas Open Sectional in Whitewright, Texas.

For the New Mexico Section Championship, Cotter finished High Overall, Open Division Champion, and Open Division Master Class Champion, with 1034.3304 match points and a time of 145.12. Montanez finished 10th Overall, Fourth in the Open Division, and Second in Open Master Class with 893.9832 match points and a time of 169.48. Rains finished Fifth Overall, Second in Limited Division, and Limited Division B Class Champion, with 927.5835 match points and a time of 156.75. Schutz finished 13th Overall, Seventh in Open Division, and Fourth Overall in A Class, with 870.4925 match points and a time of 172.24.

For the North Texas Open Sectional, Cotter finished Fourth Overall, Third in the Open Division, and Second Open Master Class with 1167.8258 match points and a time of 153.49. Montanez finished 26th Overall, 18th in the Open Division, and fourth in Open Master Class with 1041.1080 match points and a time of 172.35. Rains finished Sixth in Limited Division and Limited Division B Class Champion, with 882.7023 match points and a time of 199.50.

“I was blessed with a successful weekend, coming away with a championship and a top performance. Part of that success is confidence in my equipment. SIMI VALLEY, Calif., Oct. 7, 2020 – AeroVironment, Inc. (NASDAQ: AVAV), a global leader in unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), today announced the Sunglider™ solar-powered high-altitude pseudo-satellite (HAPS) achieved key test milestones, including reaching an altitude of more than 60,000 feet above sea level and successfully demonstrating mobile broadband communication. Sunglider’s development and testing is funded by HAPSMobile Inc., a joint venture majority-owned by SoftBank Corp. (TOKYO: 9434) and minority-owned by AeroVironment.

During the test flight, which began at 5:16 am MDT on September 21 and concluded at 1:32 am MDT on September 22, the AeroVironment team piloted Sunglider to a stratospheric altitude of 62,500 feet above Spaceport America in New Mexico. Sunglider successfully achieved major test objectives relating to propulsion, power systems, flight control, navigation and datalink integrity, as well as structural performance during the most turbulent phases of the flight as it entered and exited the jet stream.

The broadband communication demonstration successfully linked teams in Tokyo, Spaceport America and Silicon Valley using an LTE payload jointly developed by Alphabet’s Loon LLC and HAPSMobile. Employing standard LTE smartphones, a team at Spaceport America conducted multiple video calls via the Sunglider’s payload while the aircraft circled for more than five hours in the stratosphere.

“In less than three years AeroVironment and HAPSMobile have made incredible progress, developing two Sunglider solar HAPS unmanned aircraft and performing five consecutive flight demonstrations, culminating in this latest significant milestone,” said Wahid Nawabi, president and chief executive officer of AeroVironment. “Reaching stratospheric altitude, maintaining continuous flight for more than 20 hours, achieving key test objectives and demonstrating seamless broadband communication illustrate the tremendous potential HAPS technology offers to expand connectivity globally. The Sunglider, a solar-powered HAPS, has a wingspan of 262 feet and is propelled by 10 electric motors powered by solar panels covering the surface of the wing and rechargeable battery packs, resulting in zero emissions. Flying at an altitude of approximately 65,000 feet above sea level and above the clouds, the Sunglider can carry payloads weighing as much as 150 pounds and is designed for continuous, extended missions of months without landing.

KC 2020 WSSCOVERLAND PARK, Kan. – October 8, 2020 – Bushnell®, an industry leader in performance optics, congratulates KC Eusebio on his record-setting performance at the World Speed Shooting Championship held September 23-27 in Talladega, Alabama. Eusebio also became the first competitive shooter to win a championship with Bushnell’s new RXS-250 red dot.

During the competition, Eusebio set multiple world records and became the first competitor to shoot under 60 seconds with a rimfire pistol. Eusebio used the Bushnell First Strike 2.0 red dot to win first place Overall and to take the Open Title as well as first place in the .22 Rimfire Pistol division. He then used the new RXS-250 to earn the Carry Optics title.

“The World Speed Shooting Championship has always been important to me,” Eusebio said. “I started competing in the match at the age of nine and fell in love. I was able to take home my seventh World Speed Shooting title in Open and it’s one of the best feelings to achieve such a coveted title. In addition to the Overall win, I had the honor to take first place in Carry Optics and .22 Rimfire Pistol. The RXS-250 worked perfectly as a slide ride on my Carry Optics pistol. As we know, the slide-mounted optic takes the harshest force of all optic platforms but the RXS-250 held up to its name. Over the thousands of rounds I trained for this competition, I didn’t have one issue. In fact, the RXS-250 is now one of my favorite optics made by Bushnell. Big thank you to Bushnell for stepping their red dot game up!”

Andy Stumpf Officially Becomes Blackhawk’s New Brand Ambassador

Virginia Beach, Virginia – October 8, 2020 – Decorated Navy SEAL, podcast host, and BASE jump record-holder Andy Stumpf is excited to announce that he is Blackhawk’s newest brand ambassador. He’ll also star in the next episode of Blackhawk’s new film series No Fail, in which Blackhawk tells the story of elite men and women and how their own No Fail Mission shaped them to become the people they are today.

In his 17 years in the United States military, Stumpf executed missions around the globe, fighting the war on terror as a member of some of the most elite combat units in the world, including SEAL Team 6. Today, Stumpf hosts the hit Cleared Hot podcast and is a frequent guest on the Joe Rogan Experience. Latvia installs new SPIKE missiles team trainer for SPIKE LR2 and SPIKE SR

SPIKE MISSILE (16)Tel Aviv, October 7, 2020 – Latvian National Armed Forces have completed the installation of a new state-of-the-art Team Trainer for SPIKE Missiles. The new system will train Latvian forces to use Rafael Advanced Defense System’s SPIKE LR2 and SR missiles, procured from EuroSpike (a joint venture between Rafael, Diehl Defence, and Rheinmetall Electronics).

SPIKE LR2  is a 5th generation missile with an engagement range of 5.5km, and SPIKE SR is a company-level fire-and-forget light missile for 2km.

The STT (SPIKE Team Trainer), was installed at the end of August 2020 by teams from Rafael and EuroSpike.

The STT provides the SPIKE LR2 and SPIKE SR gunners, squad and section commanders, fully-simulated battlefield training, improving both gunnery and command and control proficiency levels, leading the gunner through all stages of the firing sequence from VIS or IR surveillance of a simulated image up to target impact.

The STT can simulate real-time battle management challenges, such as command and control of multiple launchers, training in synergy between observation and fire positions and it trains the gunners and commanders in handling different scenarios. The STT uniquely-simulates different environmental scenarios on a real terrain database, with varying visibility conditions, simulating the different seasons of the year, and it can be developed and adjusted based on the customer’s specific request, such as real threat analysis, fighting doctrine and expected enemy course-of-action.

The training SPIKE platoons go through a full cycle of mission planning, mission execution and detailed debriefing after action according to the data collected during the scenario, which is fully documented (including video, audio and & radio recordings),  allowing optimal post-mission debriefing.

The SPIKE SR is a light shoulder-launched disposable fire-and-forget missile, effective up to 2km. Weighing only 10 kg, and with a dual seeker, the SPIKE SR allows the maneuvering infantry to acquire and engage fast-moving targets at short range, thanks to its advanced tracker.

The SPIKE LR2 is a fifth-generation multipurpose missile. Featuring improved engagement ranges of up to 5.5 km, SPIKE LR2 weighs only 13 kg, possesses enhanced lethality, advanced target tracking capabilities, and a new network-enabled third-party target allocation enhancement with an embedded inertial measurement unit (IMU) assembly.

Mr. Gal Papier, head of marketing at Rafael’s Precision Tactical Weapon Systems directorate: “The Latvian SPIKE Team Trainer (STT) is an advanced training facility which enables training of three different SPIKE variants – the SPIKE LR (Long Range), the 5th generation SPIKE LR2 and the SPIKE SR. The installed training facility will allow the Latvian Army to both qualify and sustain a high level of current and future generation SPIKE gunners and commanders, enabling them advanced and significant antitank capabilities.”

EAST ALTON, Ill. (October 7, 2020) — Team USA trap shooter Maddy Bernau made 2020 her own by qualifying for the 2021 Olympics in Tokyo, graduating college, and now joining a select group of the world’s best competitive shooters and shooting industry icons as the newest member of Team Winchester.
“We’re very excited to have Maddy join Team Winchester and serve as an ambassador for our famous AA® shotshells and the shooting sports industry,” said Matt Campbell, vice president of sales and marketing for Winchester Ammunition. “With her background of competing in clay target sports at a young age, she will serve as an excellent role model to new shooters.”
Bernau began shooting American trap at age 12 at a local 4-H club and soon became hooked. That experience led her to seek out and join a local Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) team, which she competed in throughout high school. After attending an SCTP development camp at the Olympic training center in Colorado Springs in 2014, she began competing in international trap competitions and quickly rose through the ranks by winning multiple junior and collegiate medals and competing internationally in Italy, Korea and Finland. At the 2020 Spring Selection Match, Bernau really shined, winning the gold medal and qualifying for a spot on the 2020 Olympic team.
Bernau is going to take on the toughest trap competitors in the world at the 2021 Olympics in Tokyo with Winchester AA shotshells in the International Bunker Trap category.

Taufkirchen, Germany, 06 October 2020 – In recent years, the sale of drones has increased massively in Brazil. These flying objects, which are becoming increasingly common in public areas, endanger the safety of civilians and armed forces. HENSOLDT has now received an order from Brazil for two Xpeller systems for drone defense. The order volume amounts to more than 1 million euros.

This is the first order resulting from a framework agreement with the Brazilian customer. The contract was preceded by live tests following the first drone defense symposium, during which HENSOLDT demonstrated the capabilities of the modular Xpeller system with a multidisciplinary team from Europe, South Africa and Latin America. “We made a good impression in terms of system installation and configuration speed, detection performance and protection against intruding drones,” says Luis Guerén, Regional Marketing Manager for Latin America.

KC Eusebio Earns Seventh World Speed Shooting Championship Title

WESTWOOD, Mass. (October 6, 2020) – Competition shooting phenom, KC Eusebio, has earned a remarkable seventh Open Overall World Speed Shooting Championship title.

The unprecedented feat took place at Talladega Marksmanship Park on September 27 at the 2020 World Speed Shooting Championships. In addition to the overall win, Eusebio took first place in the Carry Optics and .22 Rimfire Pistol events, competing with his ZEV KC OZ9, Limcat 2011 and Volquartsen Scorpion pistols and Howard Leight ImpactTM Sport hearing protection.

“The World Speed Shooting Championships has always been important to me,” says Eusebio, a world-class athlete who started competing in the match at the age 9 and has set a number of records within the United States Practical Shooting Association in the 20 years since.

Eusebio became the youngest Master Class shooter at the age of 10 and the youngest Grand Master class shooter at 12. Continuing to set the bar high for himself and others, Eusebio won the World Speed Shooting Championships at the age of 15 – the youngest athlete ever to do so.

“Last weekend, I was able to take home my Seventh World Speed Shooting title in Open; it’s a great feeling to earn this coveted title amongst such a remarkably talented field of competitors,” Eusebio adds.

ARLINGTON, VA – The National Defense Industrial Association offers the following statement on the waiver extension of Section 889 part B:
NDIA fully supports the overarching policy objective behind Section 889 part B’s ban on federal contractors using Huawei, ZTE and other entities’ equipment and components, and we applaud the waiver extension through September 2022.
Unfortunately, this waiver extension is focused only on “low-risk, high-volume items,” leaving most of our members, including many small businesses, to contend with a very problematic interim rule. We continue to urge suspending implementation through the end of this fiscal year, allowing for adjustments to the law or for a broader, risk-based strategy making implementation more effective and efficient.
There could not be a worse time to implement this provision as laid out in the law and in the interim rule, as the economic uncertainty surrounding COVID-19 continues. NDIA hopes the decision-makers in the executive branch and Congress will continue to seek a workable solution.

Federal, CCI and Speer Ammunition Contribute $100,000 to NSSF’s 2020 #GUNVOTE Voter Education Campaign

#GUNVOTE is a campaign by the NSSF to encourage America’s gun owners, target shooters and hunters to register to vote, to become educated on where the candidates stand on the Second Amendment and, on election day, not to risk their rights and #GUNVOTE. The campaign’s website provides links to help voters register and find their polling place.
