DC PROJECT HELPS EDUCATE A THOUSAND WOMEN AT FREE SHOOTING EVENT
10th Annual Event Teaches Women to Shoot
Indiana, PA – (August 27, 2021) – The DC Project, Women for Gun Rights, was recently on-hand at the well-attended 10th Annual Free Women’s Shooting Event held at Top Gun Shooting Sports and Recoil Firearms in Detroit, MI, presented by Rick Ector. DC Project representatives from all over the U.S. assisted in instructing a thousand women who wanted to learn gun safety fundamentals, properly handle and shoot a semi-automatic handgun, and the Second Amendment’s necessity.
According to DC Project Advisory Board Member, and Nebraska State Director, Stephanie Schafer, “The DC Project was excited to collaborate with Rick Ector in his mission of educating so many women about firearms, safe shooting, and 2A advocacy. The turnout was fantastic, and we are proud to have helped him teach and train women during the weekend event.”
DC Project delegates traveled to Detroit to help the first-time shooters. “Our delegates immediately volunteered to support Rick’s event,” stated Schafer. “Women who participated in the educational event visited with us at both of the Detroit-area ranges, where we shared our ‘Effective 2A Messaging’ handout to help them understand why the Second Amendment is crucial to the freedoms and safety of all Americans,” she added. “Plus, we invited them to participate in a drawing to win a new Sig Sauer P365 semi-auto pistol. A special thanks to Sig Sauer for their sponsorship that made the drawing possible.”
Schafer, alongside Illinois State Delegate Rhonda Ezell, Michigan State Director Marcy Janovich, Southeast Regional Director Amanda Suffecool, and Illinois State Director Lori Blackwell, represented the DC Project and discussed the 2A with attendees. Schafer and Blackwell also trained new shooters.
Blackwell commented on the enthusiasm of the people she trained in firearms safety and shooting, saying, “the ladies were eager to learn, and although some were really afraid of things like the recoil and noise of shooting, they each conquered their fear and left the event empowered. That’s what this training was all about. Sharing the knowledge of firearms and how to be safe around them will enable them to go home and use their experience to pursue more education,” said Blackwell. “One gal worked up her courage to fire only one shot, but that was enough for her to feel accomplished and positive about the experience.”
According to Schafer, “A lot of the women told us they came to the event to learn more because of the current unrest in our country. Others reported that they wanted to learn more about the safe use of the firearms in their homes or of those that belong to their boyfriends and husbands.” Many attended with friends or as part of a group. “They were supportive of each other and excited to learn how to operate a semi-automatic handgun safely,” Schafer noticed.
“It was an honor to introduce handguns to these women,” said Schafer. “I never tire of seeing the smiles on women’s faces and the confident way they carry themselves after a simple lesson on safety and firing those first few rounds. The fear and apprehension wash away and are replaced with strength and pride. That is why I do what I do; and why I love to teach,” she said.
Rick Ector, Founder of Legally Armed in Detroit and organizer of the event, said, “women are hungry to learn more about firearms and personal protection, and providing them a no-cost way to learn in a safe, friendly environment is a gift I’m happy to give them. It was especially gratifying to meet all the women who helped facilitate the event’s success.” The event welcomed women with no prior knowledge of guns in addition to those with experience, a free way to learn or improve their marksmanship skills.
In 10 years, the event has grown from training 50 women in one weekend to safely operate a pistol, to more than 1,000 students. “I recognize that this would not be as successful and, more importantly, safe, without the support of organizations like the DC Project and their willingness to send volunteers and certified instructors,” said Ector. “There are many curious women who wish to know more about firearms, the role they play in personal defense, and about the Second Amendment. An inclusive event like this makes it easy for them to face their insecurities and keep themselves and their families safe,” he said.

The Future Force Capabilities Conference and Exhibition planning team continues to monitor the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) situation as the health of our event participants, members, and partners remain our top priority. We are committed to following the guidelines and precautions as outlined by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). Attendees can expect to see the following at NDIA events:
PROOF OF VACCINATION: All attendees will be required to provide proof of vaccination or proof of negative COVID-19 test within three (3) days of arrival. Details for securely providing documentation will be provided shortly on the event website.
MASKS: Fully vaccinated attendees are encouraged to wear face masks but, in accordance with CDC guidance, may make that choice for themselves. If you are not fully vaccinated, you are required to wear a face mask in public places.
WAIVER: All registrants are required to sign the COVID-19 waiver during the online registration process. Attendees may disclose their vaccination status at the time of signing.
SOCIAL DISTANCING: Additional venue space will be available to allow for attendees to spread out. Timed badge pick-ups will be implemented to reduce crowding at registration.

We make this difficult decision after analyzing relevant data regarding COVID-19 in Harris County, Texas. We also consulted with medical professionals, local officials, major sponsors & exhibitors, and many NRA members before arriving at this decision. The NRA Annual Meeting welcomes tens of thousands of people, and involves many events, meetings, and social gatherings. Among the highlights of our annual meeting are acres of exhibit space featuring the latest and greatest firearms, the display of countless accessories, and the offering of adventures and group gatherings that many travel hundreds, and some even thousands, of miles to experience. We realize that it would prove difficult, if not impossible, to offer the full guest experience that our NRA members deserve.
The NRA’s top priority is ensuring the health and well-being of our members, staff, sponsors, and supporters. We are mindful that NRA Annual Meeting patrons will return home to family, friends and co-workers from all over the country, so any impacts from the virus could have broader implications. Those are among the reasons why we decided to cancel our 2021 event.

NDIA survey seeks contractor feedback on COVID and business operations
ARLINGTON, VA – The National Defense Industrial Association encourages defense contractors to complete a survey on COVID-19 impacts to the industry, aiming to get a picture of business operations in the ongoing pandemic, the Arlington, Virginia-based trade association announces.
NDIA wants companies of all sizes – whether or not they are association members – to fill out the simple, three-question survey, available here until Sept. 7. The information will be part of the annual Vital Signs report, which measures the health and readiness of the U.S. defense industrial base. The next version will come out in early 2022.
A similar 2020 survey of defense contractors had more than 1,100 respondents, said Nick Jones, NDIA’s regulatory policy director who oversees the Vital Signs report.
“The last survey gave NDIA incredible insight into just how businesses were faring under pandemic conditions” Jones said. “We hope for even more responses this time, and more information as we look to help the defense industrial base thrive in these unprecedented times.”

Replaceable Blade Knife from True Knives Means Never Going Dull
Fort Worth, Texas (August 24, 2021) – One of the most difficult parts of knife ownership is finding the time and tools to sharpen a dull blade properly. There’s nothing more annoying or dangerous than a dull knife when being used for fine tasks. Injuries from a completely or partially dull blade can be not only annoying but also life-threatening.
True brings to market a rugged and durable knife that features a unique system, allowing users to easily swap their knife blades. This Replaceable Blade Knife has a 2-step locking system and comes prepackaged with three blade options: two 3.5” drop point blades and one 3.5” saw blade.
A blade storage case is also included for a safe carry of extra blades while on the move. This unique 2-stage locking system is locked in place with the thumb stud. It slides back and forth for a lock and unlock setting. The blade must be released via a lever in the spine of the knife once unlocked.
Despite being able to replace them, each blade edge is made from 3CR13 stainless steel. 3CR13 is 0.3% carbon, 13% chromium and 0.6% nickel, along with other trace elements. This composition makes it highly corrosion-resistant while retaining a sharp edge for a longer period of time. Pairing the steel with a black oxide finish means that these blades can handle some extreme environments without showing signs of corrosion.
Black fiberglass-filled nylon scales house the liner lock system to keep the blade locked tightly in position. It is textured enough to add some gripping surface without collecting particles. A small deep pocket carry clip is attached on the right-hand side for a tip down right-handed carry. When opened, the Replaceable Blade Knife measures 8” overall, and closed it comes in at 4.5”. The knife is 0.75” thick and from top to bottom measures in at 1.5”. The overall size makes this an excellent every day carry option, fishing knife, utility knife or any various activity when general cutting is necessary.
