Coronavirus (COVID-19) Information

The 32nd Annual NDIA SO/LIC Symposium planning team continues to monitor the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) situation as the health of our event participants, members, and partners remains our top priority. We are committed to following the guidelines and precautions as outlined by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). Attendees can expect to see the following at NDIA events:

PROOF OF VACCINATION: All attendees will be required to provide proof of vaccination or proof of a negative COVID-19 test within 72-hours prior to being on-site for badge pick-up. Proof of vaccination must be submitted no later than Monday, November 1 at 5:00 pm. Submit your vaccination.
MASKS: Currently, in D.C., masks are required indoors regardless of vaccination status. Accordingly, all participants at the 32nd Annual NDIA SO/LIC Symposium will be required to wear face masks at all times, except when actively eating or drinking. Please plan ahead and bring your own face mask. A very limited supply of disposable masks will be available onsite.
WAIVER: All registrants are required to sign the COVID-19 waiver during the online registration process. Attendees may disclose their vaccination status at the time of signing.
SOCIAL DISTANCING: Additional venue space will be available to allow for attendees to spread out. Timed badge pick-ups will be implemented to reduce crowding at registration.
FOOD AND BEVERAGE: Food and beverage areas will be designed to minimize touch points utilizing individually packaged or attended stations.

AirMap LAANC Authorizations upgraded!

AirMap now supports LAANC v5 on mobile & web apps. This version of LAANC allows Part 107 operators to apply to operate during night and civil twilight hours in controlled airspace surrounding 731 airports around the country.

NEWTOWN, Conn. – The Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers’ Institute® (SAAMI®) has scheduled its 2022 Ballistics Conference for September 13-14 in Rapid City, South Dakota. Industry professionals interested in attending this conference are reminded to “save the date.”

The two-day technical seminar and training course will be hosted by H-S Precision, which is pleased to provide a tour of the firm’s facilities in conjunction with the conference.

This fourth annual conference will serve as a training workshop and discussion forum to address a range of topics relevant to small arms ammunition ballistic laboratory/test facility operations, methods, and equipment. The conference will be of interest to small arms ballistic laboratory technicians, ammunition and firearm test engineers, test facility managers, and civilians, law enforcement and military personnel who utilize SAAMI standards in the manufacture or testing of ammunition and firearms.

DON’T PANIC !

Is there anyone, besides me, who can’t wait for 2021 to come to an end? The problem with that statement is that 2022 may not be much better, but keep your sweat pumps in low speed and avoid panic buying of toilet paper.

I don’t think I’ve heard an uplifting or positive news stream all year; if that condition persists, it’s quite likely you’ll think of booking a therapy session. Stop!

A therapist is a jackass who majored in psychology so they could understand themselves. They are as messed up as you are, and may even be dealing with penis size ideations whether they’re male or female. A therapist will charge you at least $150 an hour to do what you can do with a weekend BBQ and a good shoot the shit with your buds and/or family. Therapists like to project an aura of great enlightenment, a con-job stemming from our Judeo-Christian heritage. A Jewish mother for example has no greater bragging right than to say her son or daughter is a therapist, so kids progress through their academic work with mom nudging them to become therapists – should I be a psychologist, should I not be a psychologist, will I become like Ilhan Omar. it’s like Jackie Mason’s1 looking for a partner routine.

So what is a shoot the shit? The concept has nautical origins, it’s a social interaction during which any topic can be discussed. The participants don’t need to know anything about the subject under discussion, they are also free to make any unsupported comment, use uncensored profanity, insult anyone the wish or change the subject altogether. A good shoot the shit has greater efficacy than a therapist session. So, give social media a rest and schedule a good shoot the shit with friends, family or coworkers, you’ll feel better. Allow me to present this example.

Let’s say that you have a penis size ideation; for example, and you keep asking your spouse if he or she took the whole thing, so you mention penis size during a shoot the shit; the participants could respond by making you pull it out of your pants, or skirt, with a magnifying glass in hand immediately destroying your ideation. So let’s shoot the shit to kick-off our weekend.

COVID-19

We find ourselves living in times where neither the government, main stream media or social media are reliable sources of information. Look no further than the COVID extravaganza where the public messaging has been an complete disaster; as a result, we have individuals, living in 2021 anno domini, who truly believe that the COVID vaccines will cause DNA mutations, keep them from getting to heaven or bring about a reduction in penis size. I respect all of those positions but folks, there are more documented adverse reactions to off-the-shelf medications than from any of the vaccines combined, this is a fact. If you believe that a COVID vaccine will keep you from getting to heaven remember that “God helps those who help themselves,” a proverb originating in ancient Greece some say. Enough on COVID…

Identifying a cluster-fuck

Beginning with this post and until things settle down a bit, I will be including an “Identifying a cluster-fuck” in my shoot the shit topic. My beef today, no pun intended, is food prices. People, food prices aren’t going up because people are eating more. We generally consume the same amount of food day in and day out and farmers generally produce the same quantity of food year over year. A farmer’s principal constraint is agricultural lands and weather. Getting food to market is impacted principally by fuel costs. Fuel is generally price inelastic, simply stated people will consume the same amount irrespective of its price. So, given the later, it’s reasonable to expect food costs to rise. But, there is a gorilla in the room that no one is talking about and that is China. China is a major importer of U.S. agricultural products, especially pork. Take a look…

“It may be what you’re searching for but the word “silencer” is misleading. In 1909, Hiram P. Maxim received a patent for the first “silent firearm.” His goal was to keep his recreational shooting from disturbing his neighbors. However, he soon realized his new device had many other benefits, including greatly improving his accuracy. Maxim called these devices silencers and even named his company after them, the Maxim Silencer Company. He sold his invention at hardware stores and through the mail for $3.25. Though he stopped producing them in 1934 due to legislation, his design elements are the foundation of every suppressor made today. And while he referred to them as “silencers” the technology has never rendered the blast from a firearm completely silent. Hollywood has perpetuated that myth, unfortunately, scripting sinister villains into movies and television shows as they affix a suppressor to a pistol or rifle then magically eliminate a target while no character within earshot is the wiser.

Rather than encourage stereotypes, many in the firearms industry, including SIG SAUER, have adopted the more appropriate term “suppressor” when discussing Maxim’s invention, as there are more benefits to shooting a suppressed firearm than simply a reduced audio report, including a reduction in felt recoil, muzzle flash and more. All of these benefits have made shooting with suppressors desirable to a wide range of people.”

Companies Partner to Develop Hydrogen Fuel Cell Systems for Heavy Lift Drones to Provide Extended Time and Range Capabilities

Mevo Carmel, Israel, October 19, 2021 – HevenDrones, a leader in the development and commercialization of actionable drone platforms with heavy-lift capabilities today announced a bi-lateral alliance with Plug Power (NASDAQ: PLUG), a leading provider of hydrogen engines and fueling solutions enabling e-mobility.

HevenDrones designs its own proprietary operating systems and is the exclusive company selected by the Israeli Ministry of Defense to develop a customized fleet of hydrogen fueled drones. Specifically, HevenDrones is working with DDR&D, a specialized unit responsible for research and development of advanced technologies.

Plug Power and HevenDrones plan to cooperate on the commercialization of hydrogen fuel cell powered heavy-lift actionable drones and related support equipment and infrastructure. Together, the companies plan to provide an integrated solution to power and refuel HevenDrones’ next generation fleet with the key objective of providing extended flight times and range.

Bringing together HevenDrones capabilities in developing and manufacturing actionable heavy lift drones with Plug Power’s fuel cell stack technology and systems capabilities, the companies aim to develop hydrogen-powered drones of varying sizes capable of lifting heavy weights and flying for extended periods of time.

HevenDrones’ proprietary stabilizing technology provides the capability to lift and move heavy and unbalanced and kinetic loads with applications across a variety of industries and markets.

This initiative is part of Plug Power’s strategy to bring its proven hydrogen ProGen fuel cell technology to new markets through engaging leaders in industries such as commercial aviation, aerospace, and now drones.  The joint alliance is an important milestone for HevenDrones, which is already a leader in designing and producing heavy-lift and extended flight time drones. By leveraging the expertise of Plug Power’s technology, HevenDrones will dramatically enhance the capabilities of its proprietary heavy lift actionable drone systems and open new markets and applications for its fleet of drones.

The effort will also include additional scopes of work to provide an entire hydrogen ecosystem, including, hydrogen supply, infrastructure, fueling and refueling for drone applications.

The carbon-free and eco-conscious hydrogen system will incorporate a lightweight Plug Power ProGen-based hydrogen fuel cell stack specifically designed for drone applications.  In addition to the extended range and flight times, the hydrogen-powered drones will also positively contribute to the environment and set standards in clean energy drone transportation.

Fredericksburg, Texas (October 2021) – If you have ever wondered how a company like Cimarron Firearms, makers of quality replicas of Old West firearms, come up with their next firearm introduction, Mike Harvey, CEO of Cimarron Firearms, lets you in on his little secret in the latest Cimarron Originals with Mike Harvey video on their YouTube Channel.

The first step in developing a new project requires digging through five large firearm safes loaded with approximately 60 historical firearms to find the one unique gun that will become the next Cimarron authentically reproduced replica. Harvey mentions that if he doesn’t find what he is looking for in his company safes, there are about the same amount at home. This initial step, of choosing the actual historic firearm to replicate, is what sets Cimarron apart from the competition. No other company builds replicas with the original details and historic references that Cimarron requires of its manufacturers.

Harvey’s decision for Cimarron’s next project is to build a replica 1897 pump-action Trench Gun based on the 1897 WWII version he owns. The original 1897 Winchester-made shotgun was based on the John Browning-designed 1893 shotgun, and as the next evolution, the 1897 was a more robust version designed for military use. First produced for American soldiers in the 1899 Philippine-American War, it later received the distinction as an effective “trench gun” during the first World War.

World War l, known for its horrendous trench warfare, was where the 1897 became synonymously known as the “trench sweeper.” The 20” barrel and the ability to rapidly fire the five-round mag made the shotgun the ultimate close combat weapon and was so feared by the German Army, they had tried to have it banned. Between 1897 and 1957 over one million shotguns were produced and used mainly by the military, law enforcement, and American security companies.

With the decision to replicate this very popular defensive shotgun, Harvey’s company, Cimarron Firearms, will be the only importer and distributor of this iconic self-defense shotgun. As part of the new product process, Harvey will have several decisions to consider on the 1897 shotgun, including whether to build it as a take-down or solid frame.
