Veterans join together at Spike S Ranch for whitetail deer hunt

November 4, 2021 – On October 1st-3rd, Heroes enrolled in Military Warriors Support Foundation’s Skills4Life program participated in a whitetail deer hunt at Spike S Ranch. Spike S Ranch is owned and operated by William “Scooter” Scott, who frequently hosts events and has invited many Heroes to various events over the years. His ranch is located about 20 miles outside of Metzon, Tx, in Irion County. This is not only a functioning ranch but has diverse fauna from around the world.

This year, eight Heroes participated in this whitetail deer hunt. An onsite chef – chef Mike – prepared meals for the members of the hunt to make sure each individual is well-fed and ready to go. Many of the deer seen this year were bigger than most of the Heroes had seen before. One Hero, who had never been hunting before this trip, had the opportunity to tag his first buck. This will be an event all attendees will not soon forget, and we are thankful to William and Mike for making this an event that promotes camaraderie and builds friendships.

Important Safety Recall for Certain Modern Sporting Rifles

Colt’s Manufacturing Company LLC (Colt) has recently discovered a potential safety issue with certain of its semi-automatic only Modern Sporting Rifles (“MSR”). Colt is voluntarily initiating a recall to protect the safety of its customers because of the potential for certain MSRs to discharge unintentionally and because of its commitment to the highest standards of quality and customer satisfaction.

To prevent the possibility of death or serious personal injury, you should immediately stop using your MSR and not load or fire it until you have determined if it is affected, and it has been upgraded if necessary.

Under certain conditions, it is possible that some Colt MSRs may discharge a second round when the trigger is released with a live round in the chamber. Colt has identified the cause of this condition as being hammers installed in certain MSRs that do not meet Colt’s specifications. The issue will be corrected by replacing the hammer in affected MSRs.

The recall only covers the following MSRs manufactured beginning on March 5, 2021: AR15A4, CR6700A4, CR6920, CR6920-EPR, CR6920MPS-B, CR6921, CR6921-EPR, CR6933, CR6933-EPR, CR6960, LE6920-EPR, LE6920MPS-B, LE6920-OEM1, LE6920-OEM2, LE6920-R, LE6933-EPR, SP633784, and LE6920SOCOM. These MSRs could still be for sale at dealers TODAY.

The chart to the right lists all the serial numbers for those models that may potentially be subject to the recall.

This Air Launched Effects (ALE) proof-of-concept demonstration took place in August 2021 with the goal of launching an inert Switchblade 300 from the JUMP 20 and successfully recovering both air vehicles.

The systems were integrated by fixing the inert Switchblade 300 tube-launch system to the existing JUMP 20 platform’s vertical lift boom with a custom-made bolt-on mount and firing solution. Switchblade 300 was remotely fired using the JUMP 20 ground control solution with in-flight control taken by a separate Switchblade ground element. Both vehicles were successfully recovered, proving the demonstration event to be the first-ever Switchblade 300 integration and air launch from a JUMP 20 Group 3 vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) platform.

Bentonville, AR (November 2, 2021) – The Escort SD-X is part of Hatsan’s Versatile Tactical Shotgun series. Available in either 12 ga or .410 cal, this modern sporting shotgun is offered in all black or FDE Cerakote. A new gas piston design is mounted around the barrel itself, eliminating the secondary tube that is typically mounted below the barrel of a semi-automatic shotgun. This reduces the weight and bulk of the gun while minimizing felt recoil and muzzle rise. The synthetic polymer lower receiver features an alloy magazine well that ensures a smooth, durable product designed to last. Hatsan’s patented ThermoDefend forend absorbs and dissipates heat from the barrel while offering a comfortable, controlled grip on the weapon.

An active buffer tube absorbs recoil and sports a removable buttstock with elevation-adjustable cheek rest. The soft rubber ergonomic pistol grip is also removable and can be replaced with a wide variety of already available aftermarket options. The cocking bolt is reversible to suit a wide variety of shooter preferences. A carry-handle rear sight and fixed front sight come equipped on each gun, but the included flip-up sights can be installed for use with mounted optics. The forend also features 4 Picatinny rail locations to accommodate multiple accessory mounting options.

The 12-gauge models feature an 18″ barrel with removable chokes, including an extended cylinder bore choke brake that helps tame recoil with heavy shot or slugs. Standard Full and Improved Cylinder chokes are also included, with other options available from HatsanUSA. Each gun ships with two 5-round magazines, and a 2-round magazine that can be stored in the buttstock. The gun is chambered to accept both 2 ¾” and 3″ shells and will cycle them interchangeably with no external adjustments required by the shooter.

The .410 models feature a 20″ barrel with an integrated choke suitable for both shot and slugs. Offering the same recoil-absorbing characteristics as the larger caliber models, this shotgun is extremely smooth. Also shipping with two 5-round magazines, this gun features a spare 3-round magazine stored in the buttstock. The gas piston operates in the same manner, cycling both standard and magnum loads reliably.

As with all Escort shotguns, the barrels are proof tested at the factory to ensure quality and durability. The hard chrome and/or Cerakote coatings are built to withstand the harshest conditions and look good while doing it. HatsanUSA offers a 5-year limited warranty with all Escort firearms.

FAA Proposes Medical Requirements for Commercial Hot-Air Balloon Pilots

WASHINGTON— The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) proposed a rule today requiring commercial hot-air-balloon pilots to hold medical certificates when operating for hire. The rule would mandate a second-class medical certificate, the same standard required for commercial pilots.

“Balloon pilots are responsible for the safety of their passengers,” FAA Administrator Steve Dickson said. “This proposed rule would ensure that balloon pilots meet the same medical requirements as pilots of other commercial aircraft.”

Currently, commercial balloon pilots are exempt from the medical requirement. In the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2018, Congress directed the FAA to revise the medical certification standards for commercial balloon pilots. The draft rule also addresses a National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) recommendation that the FAA remove the exemption.

The FAA in recent years took steps to increase the safety of hot-air-balloon tourism by working with the Balloon Federation of America (BFA) on an accreditation program. The program includes voluntary standards for pilots and operators and offers multiple tiers of BFA safety accreditation.

The FAA will publish the draft rule in the Federal Register in November, and the public will have 60 days to provide comments. After the comment period closes, the FAA will review all comments before publishing a final rule.

Galco’s extremely versatile WheelGunner™ and Ironhide™ belt holsters offer ambidextrous design as well as quick on-off capability. Suitable for casual concealment and outdoor sportsman’s carry, they both carry a large handgun high and close to the body.
The WheelGunner secures a large revolver with a combination of hand molding and an adjustable hammer thong. Simply slip the hammer thong off and the gun is cleared for a fast, smooth draw.

The Ironhide secures a semiautomatic pistol with a combination of hand molding and a reversible retention strap with a glove-friendly polymer tab. Release the strap and the pistol is cleared for another fast, smooth draw. The retention strap accommodates both hammer-down and cocked-and-locked carry on 1911-type pistols.

Both designs allow right or left hand carry by unsnapping the holster from the belt slide, moving the belt slide to the opposite side of the body, reversing the retention strap, and reattaching the holster. The holster body can also be quickly detached from the belt slide, should the carrier need to enter a “non-permissive environment” and temporarily store the handgun.

SWEET HOME, Oregon – November 1, 2021 – HEVI-Shot is proud to announce new HEVI-Hammer Upland loads. New for 2021, HEVI-Shot is offering 12- and 20- gauge options in shot size No. 5, or 7 shot to cover all the needs of hunters targeting large and medium upland game. HEVI-Hammer loads are manufactured using 15-percent high density bismuth (9.64 g/cc) and 85-percent precision steel. That small but mighty leading layer of bismuth over steel delivers nearly 50-percent more down range energy than pellets consisting of all steel at 40 yards.

“We know HEVI-Hammer Upland will help hunters achieve more success in the field,” said Scott Turner, HEVI-Shot’s Product Line Manager. “Upland game is such a beloved and traditional sport. The bismuth-enhanced steel loads provided hunters with an option that had more velocity and more power than just standard steel shot yet is the same size as steel respectively.
