The month of August highlights Federal refurbishing old loading machines to increase production and the legacy family of Federal Ammunition. The article entitled “New Ammo from Old Machines” showcases the ingenuity and resourcefulness of Federal employees. To meet the growing demand for ammunition, Federal was able to refurbish and re-tool several retired loading machines. Bringing these machines back to life was no easy task but shows the talent and abilities of the employees.

“Demand for ammunition is high and Federal is doing everything we can to meet demand,” said Erik Carlson, Federal Ammunition Senior Director of Operations. “The fact that Federal employees were able to fix up old loading machines, make replacement parts for them and get them up and running again is truly incredible.”

The article entitled “Federal’s Families” shares the stories of the legacy families within Federal Ammunition. Being based in Anoka, Minnesota for decades has allowed Federal Ammunition to be a major part of the community. The generations of residents to the area that have been Federal employees has made a big impact on the success of the company.

On top, integral Picatinny scope bases allow the shooter to choose from various optic mounting solutions. A silent, 2-position safety compliments this action. It enabled a locked or cycling bolt with the safety engaged. In the field, this type of safety prevents unintentional bolt opening.

A detachable magazine allows quick mag changes, and its built-in locking feature ensures secure magazine retention. Magazine top-off through the ejection port adds speed and convenience when extra shots are required.

Warthog V-Sharp Curve: Same Angle—Both Sides—Every Time!

Baton Rouge, LA (August 16, 2022) – The Warthog V-Sharp Series includes the Classic II, Curve and the Xtreme Edge. These three sharpeners work using the same body mechanics; simply draw the blade in a slicing motion entirely through and out of the sharpener, keeping the blade flat against the Blade Guide. The sharpeners are equipped with two 325-grit double-sided Diamond Rods and finishing steels (hones). Typically, after sharpening the V-Sharp XE (Xtreme Edge) and the V-Sharp CLASSIC II to a keen edge, the hones are turned over with the steel facing up, and the angle is increased by one notch (5°) to finish the blade to a razor edge. However, using the V-Sharp Curve eliminates changing the position of the Diamond Rods altogether. The same mechanics of drawing the blade through and out are employed. This motion is all it takes to achieve a consistent angle from the heel to the tip.

V-Sharp Curve is ultra-compact and the easiest to use of the V-Sharp Series. Currently, this model is offered in red, blue, and black (plastic construction). A specialty V-Sharp Curve Pouch is available and fits the sharpener snugly into the durable, ultra-padded protective case. Interior pockets hold extra diamond rods and finishing steels.

The unique curve in the Diamond Rods maintains a 25° angle throughout the entire blade. Spring-loaded Diamond Rods keep equal pressure on each side while pulling the blade through. With no adjustments, you only need to keep your blade flat against the Blade Guide and let the sharpener do the rest. This style is commonly known as a pull-through sharpener; however, not all are created the same!

Traditional Pull-Through Sharpeners

The truth about pull-through knife sharpeners is that they damage your knives. The two most common types are hand-held and electric. The cheaply made hand-held variety is usually equipped with two carbide blades that do not move with your knife. Instead, the carbide blades stay fixed, and the knife is pulled through, scraping steel off your blade.

This type of sharpener is abusive and should be used only on disposable cutlery or yard tools. Electric pull-through sharpeners remove way too much metal and shorten the life of your knife by years. There is a tendency to overheat and ruin the temper on a delicate edge using an electric sharpener. A pull-through electric sharpener and coarse sharpening wheel found on the back of some can openers can permanently damage a blade. Because of the mechanics of use, it is impossible to apply the same amount of pressure throughout the blade. As a result, the edge tends to go out of shape, changing the original blade profile.

The family of Danica Brianne Mulholland from Levittown, Pennsylvania, is receiving $36,400 from Henry Repeating Arms’ successful Guns for Great Causes campaign.

Rice Lake, Wis. – August 16, 2022 – Leading lever action firearms manufacturer Henry Repeating Arms is proud to announce that its latest Guns For Great Causes campaign raised $36,400 for the family of Danica Brianne Mulholland. After losing their 12-year-old daughter to a three-year battle with brain cancer, the Levittown, Pennsylvania family is receiving a check from the sale of 50 Henry Golden Boy lever action rifles to assist with any outstanding medical and funeral expenses.

Danica was undergoing treatment for a grade IV medulloblastoma when Henry Repeating Arms CEO and Founder Anthony Imperato jumped at the opportunity to assist the family through the company’s charitable branch, Guns for Great Causes. Henry Repeating Arms donated all the rifles and Baron Engraving of Trumbull, Connecticut, donated their services to create the engraved artwork in tribute to Danica’s life. The “Danica Strong” edition rifles sold out within two hours of the initial release announcement, and auctions of the first and last serial numbers brought in an additional $4,000 total. Since 2020, the program has distributed over $325,000 to individual families of sick children.

As most of you know by now, the founder and president of Trulock Tool Company, George Trulock, passed away due to cancer on June 13th. It was a devastating, heartbreaking loss and I can’t express with words how much he is missed. You don’t replace a man like our Dad, only try to emulate him. With over 45 years in our industry, the wisdom, knowledge and experience he had was immeasurable. My brother Jerrod and I have got some mighty big shoes to fill.

To that point, we here at Trulock’s will do exactly that and carry on the principles and examples set by Dad. As we transition into this new chapter of life without George, rest assured that Trulock Tool will continue to strive to be the best in all that we do. “I got a sneak peek of the BassCAR on the shop floor this week, and it made me even more excited to get to Richmond Raceway because it’s going to be one of the best-looking cars at the track,” said Dillon. “It’s a unique paint scheme, and I appreciate all of the attention to detail that went into designing the BassCar. It’s just as stylish as the Huk apparel that I wear.

“My team has put a ton of effort into getting the BassCar ready for Richmond, and I’ve been spending a lot of time preparing for the race in our simulator, watching race footage, and strategizing with my team. Dillon, who is in his ninth season driving the No. 3 Chevrolet for Richard Childress Racing, has 16 previous starts at Richmond Raceway, with his best finish of sixth in 2018 and 2019.

The RCBS Rumble was held August 6 in RCBS’s and GA Precision’s own backyard near Pleasant Hill, Missouri. With additional support from partners including Bushnell, Hoppe’s, Federal Ammunition, GA Precision and Manner’s Composite Stocks, the Rumble drew 75 elite PRS Pro Series shooters from across the country and sold out of registration spots in less than an hour. In addition to the main competition, the match included side stages sponsored by Manners Composite Stocks and Bushnell.

The match heated up quickly, not just with a heat index of 105 degrees, but with a fast-paced, challenging course of fire that included buses, trucks and other props. Team RCBS and Elite Tactical shooter Troy Livesay took fourth place at the match, taking home one of the coveted trophies – custom RCBS presses. First through fifth place won gold, silver, bronze and copper RCBS Summit™ presses, while the top shooter in each class also received a custom copper RCBS Rebel press. Team RCBS and Elite Tactical shooter Melissa Gilliland claimed the Top Lady title at the match.

Federal Sponsored Shooter Vincent Hancock Wins Big at Championship Skeet Match

ANOKA, Minnesota – August 12, 2022 – Federal Ammunition sponsored shooter Vincent Hancock adds to the list of recent events won by Federal sponsored shotgun shooters. 3-time Olympic Gold Medalist Vincent Hancock won the 2022 Skeet Nationals Championship. The shoot was held on August 6, 2022, at the John Anthony Halter Shooting Sports Center in Hillsdale, Michigan.

Using Federal Premium shotshell, Hancock scored 248/250 broken targets in the qualification rounds. During the Gold Medal Final, Hancock secured 59/60 to win the gold medal in a field of 46 shooters.

The win at the 2022 Skeet Nationals Championship adds to an already accomplished-filled 2022 shooting season for Hancock. At the 2022 ISSF World Cup in Baku Azerbaijan, Hancock won three gold medals in individual and team shooting events.

True Utility Presents the Mycro Utility Knife: an Andrew Takach Design

Ft. Worth, TX (August 10, 2022) – Several TV shows are known for having some amazing metal smiths walk through their halls. Great names in the industry first had the spotlight thrust upon them while on television and have found success once the cameras stopped rolling. After winning a television knife-making competition show, Andrew has gotten to work on bringing one design to the mass market.

Residing in Pennsylvania, Takach started his knife-making journey in 2004. He began to produce little knives with a Dremel tool as a small hobby. “They were probably nothing good,” said Takach, “but I really started to become addicted to making knives.” He continues, “I would take my kids to my mother’s and sit down for hours making knives.”

Since the show ended, Takach has been making new blades that he had never done before. Recently, the second-ever Takach sword was produced – the first being made during a television filming. One staple to his collection before the show had been the Mycro. This original design came from some left-over steel stock and a customer who wanted an ultralight knife for small cutting tasks without needing a hip sheath. “Many of my designs are by accident, and they work well.” With a little hard work and some changes over the years, the Mycro has been made by Andrew in many different steel types and several different grinds.

True Knives has begun the first commercial production run of Andrew Takach’s Mycro Utility Knife. The small and lightweight knife has a unique shape with a flat edge for easy cutting. While easily capable of being a neck knife, the Mycro does come with a unique multi-purpose PA66 sheath capable of several different carry locations and positions. PA66 is nylon material and perfect for keeping weight low and durability high. Included is a belt clip offering many carry options.

This small blade is made from satin 8CrMoV and bears a Wharncliffe shape. This shape has commonly been used for utility and small work tasks. Since it is corrosion-resistant, the small design is perfect for everyday tasks in all environments. Filling in the grip are G10 handles. G10 is also waterproof and incredibly durable, having found use with many knife manufacturers for handles and scales and grips in the firearms industry.

The Mycro is a great general-purpose go-to utility blade. Without a doubt, it can easily find its way into construction sites, auto shops, tackle boxes, or anywhere someone needs a quick-cutting tool. The origin story of this design goes back to ultralight camping as outdoorsmen/women have historically found the blade shape and size a perfect combination.

But what is next for Andrew? While he still is making custom knives to order, he hosts a knife-making class almost weekly. Individuals can come to his shop and make their own knives. “I want to focus on some folding knives for the near future,” said Andrew. Takach is a name that will undoubtedly become more familiar in the metal smithing world.

Anthony Matarese of Team Winchester Wins NSCA North Central Regional

EAST ALTON, IL (August 10, 2022) — Team Winchester member Anthony Matarese continued his winning ways at the 2022 National Sporting Clays Association (NSCA) North Central Regional. Matarese locked up High Overall Champion in the main event, crushing 195 of 200 targets with his trusty Winchester AA® shotshells. Meanwhile, teammate Connor Daniel had an exceptional performance with 186 targets, solidly winning Sub Junior Champion by a 13-target margin.
The North Central Regional was event 5 of 8 in the 2022 NSCA Championship Tour, Powered by Winchester, and was hosted by Northbrook Sports Club in Hainesville, Illinois. Approximately 700 shooters gathered to brave the heat and compete from July 27-31, with strong performances by many across all classifications.
