Configuration & Data Management Certification (CDM) Course and Examination
The in-person Configuration and Data Management (CDM) Prep Course is an intensive two-day certification preparation course designed to prepare individuals for the CDM certification exam. The primary thrust of the prep course is to provide insight into CDM functions and related processes. This course includes and emphasizes industry and international standards, and applicable military standards which are itemized in the study guide.
The examination is conducted on the third day of the CDM event after the two-day preparation course is complete. Questions are in essay and objective formats. The examination questions comes from an examination database, which contains objective questions, true-false questions, and mix & match questions. Essay type questions are on the examination to provide the tester an opportunity to respond with their experience to the questions subject matter. Essay type questions are based on prevalent industry, international, and government standards. The examination is administered in four parts, each with a defined subject matter.

GA-ASI FLIES AUTONOMOUS COLLABORATION USING AVENGER® UAS
Demonstration Shows Maturing CCA Ecosystem
SAN DIEGO – 30 November 2022 – On Nov. 17, General Atomics Aeronautical Systems (GA-ASI) paired a company-owned MQ-20 Avenger® Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) with a Sabreliner, operated by Lockheed Martin and acting as a surrogate fighter, and two F-5 Advanced Tigers (AT) from Tactical Air Support configured with internal TacIRST sensors, to perform multi-platform infrared sensing. During this event, all aircraft performed coordinated maneuvers to sense relevant airborne targets in the infrared spectrum. The MQ-20 and Sabreliner were digitally connected over a Tactical Targeting Network Technology (TTNT) mesh network to share sensing observations. In addition to the live-flight aircraft, five digital twins of the MQ-20 were integrated to autonomously fly a Live, Virtual, Constructive (LVC) collaborative combat mission.
All live aircraft had operational next-generation Tactical Infrared Search and Track (TacIRST™) sensors during the test to provide Air-to-Air Moving Target Tracking. These live tracks were provided by Lockheed Martin’s TacIRST sensor and was processed on a General Dynamics Mission Systems’ EMC2 Multi-Function Processor (MFP), commonly referred to as “the Einstein Box.” Using this software-defined architecture, the flight demonstrated crewed and uncrewed teaming between the MQ-20s, Sabreliner and manned F-5 AT tactical fighters.
“This test flight has broken new ground for us,” said GA-ASI Senior Director of Advanced Programs Michael Atwood. “It demonstrated effective collaboration between four established defense prime contractors flying with advanced sensing, crewed and uncrewed teaming, and advanced airborne high-performance computing to meet challenging air dominance scenarios. This is a clear demonstration of our rapidly maturing Autonomous Collaborative Platform (ACP) mission system suite and moves us one step closer to providing this revolutionary capability to the warfighter.”
“Flying four platforms with TacIRST installed was a major milestone for Lockheed Martin,” stated Matthew Merluzzi, Sr. Program Manager at Lockheed Martin. “By leveraging open mission systems, our team has demonstrated that common platform integration is possible across a variety of vehicles bringing advanced capabilities to our warfighters quicker and more affordably.”
To accomplish the multi-company integration, the MQ-20 team used a government-furnished CODE autonomy engine and the government-standard Open Mission Systems (OMS) messaging protocol to enable communication between the autonomy core and TacIRST. In addition, GA-ASI used General Dynamics’ EMC2, an open architecture MFP with multi-level security infrastructure to run the autonomy architecture, demonstrating the ability to bring high-performance computing (HPC) resources to ACPs to perform quickly tailorable mission sets depending on the operational environment.
This is another in an ongoing series of autonomous flights performed using internal research and development (IRAD) funding to prove out important concepts for ACPs.

The British Army has conducted tests with RAFAEL’s FOOTPRINT navigation system for ground forces.
Portsmouth, UK, November 2022: as part of the Army Warfighting Experiment (AWE), ground troops of the British Army conducted a set of rigorous trials with the FOOTPRINT system through varying scenarios. The system proved its ability to allow soldiers to navigate and self-position in situations where they are unable to rely on traditional GPS capabilities.
As part of AWE and under The Defense Science and Technology Laboratory (DSTL) and the Future Capability Group, the British soldiers tested RAFAEL’s FOOTPRINT system in scenarios simulating modern mission requirements, including between and inside buildings, down into basements as well as in open areas. As part of the trial, FOOTPRINT was connected to the CIV-TAK (Civilian Team Awareness Kit) system which allows the soldiers to stand in a variety of sites and conduct operational tasks whilst activated. As a result of the successful testing, commanders were able to obtain an accurate picture of the exact location of each and every troop with a detailed understanding of the operational situation.

Firearm Safety Initiative — Project ChildSafe
WASHINGTON, D.C., and SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — NSSF®, The Firearm Industry Trade Association, is pleased to announce that Smith & Wesson, a leader in firearm manufacturing, will be making a donation of $5,000 to NSSF’s firearm safety initiative, Project ChildSafe®.
Project ChildSafe is a program of the NSSF actively promoting firearm safety and education in all 50 states and the five U.S. territories. The program is dedicated to promoting responsible firearm handling and storage through the distribution of safety education messages and free firearm safety kits.
“NSSF is extremely grateful for this generous donation by Smith & Wesson,” said Joe Bartozzi, NSSF President and CEO and Chairman of the Project ChildSafe Foundation. “This along with other donations during the holidays will help NSSF build upon the important work of Project ChildSafe to help reduce firearm accidents, thefts and misuse, including suicide.”

The simple, effective engineering in this single-stage press gives reloaders complete control, dependably enabling the precision and consistency demanded. The uniquely angled, solid cast frame is designed to assure perfect die and shell holder alignment and allow reloaders to see and access the cartridge throughout the process. The Lock-N-Load® Quick-Change Bushing System lets reloaders swap out dies in seconds, enabling quick and easy caliber changes when reloading cartridges for multiple firearms. Set the die and tighten the Sure-Loc™ ring onto the Lock-N-Load® bushing with a single twist. The six locking lugs on the die and press bushings hold dies in stable, secure alignment. A rubber O-ring on the die bushings gives reloaders a better feel when the die is inserted, holding it tight against the locking lugs to prevent accidental loosening. To change calibers, simply twist the die counterclockwise, remove it and insert the next preset Lock-N-Load® die and bushing. Because they remain set in their Lock-N-Load® bushings, dies will remain exactly as they were set.
Leverage, consistently applied, ensures proper bullet and primer seating. The Lock-N-Load Classic’s solid steel arm rotates on a steel pin running completely through the frame. The long arm gets a boost from the Power-Pac Linkage, multiplying the leverage and reducing operator fatigue. The ergonomic, large, ball-style grip also reduces effort while improving comfort.
Removing and replacing spent primers is a breeze, much easier than the process associated with old-style primer arms. The spent primer ejects at the top of the stroke. Then add a new primer to the Positive Priming System™, which self-aligns to feed, and insert the primer at the bottom of the stroke where leverage is best. The self-aligning primer arm allows for easy manual primer insertion without raising the handle. All the work is done at the bottom of the stroke. Small and large punches are included.
A valuable optional item (sold separately) is Hornady’s Automatic Primer Feed, which pairs large or small primer tubes with the Positive Priming System, resulting in a “hands-off” process with no more stiff-fingered fumbling with primers.

Tell a Teen’s Suicide Prevention Story
WASHINGTON, D.C. — NSSF® — The Firearm Industry Trade Association — and Project ChildSafe® today released a new video, “A Teen’s Suicide Prevention Story,” telling the real-life story of a teenager who took the right steps, including using a Project ChildSafe gun lock, to help prevent his at-risk girlfriend from attempting suicide.

The video, housed on Project ChildSafe’s website and NSSF’s YouTube page, uses an actor portrayal of a teenager whose actions, including confiding in a trusted adult and securely storing guns in the home, helped protect his girlfriend from self-harm. Project ChildSafe is NSSF’s nationwide program that promotes responsible storage of firearms to help prevent firearm-related accidents, thefts and suicide.
“We were so moved when we heard this story and knew we had to find a way to retell it to demonstrate the importance of deterring access to firearms and other lethal means when someone is struggling with their mental health,” said Joe Bartozzi, NSSF’s President and CEO and Chairman of the Project ChildSafe Foundation. “It’s gratifying to hear that this successful outcome was possible as a result of a program that we are passionate about. We hope it inspires others to remember that suicide can be prevented—and the importance of practicing secure firearm storage in the home.”
The video will serve as the centerpiece of a national digital advertising campaign launching in November targeted specifically to likely gun owners who are parents of teens, as well as “teen-adjacent adults” such as school mental health counselors, youth workers and teachers. The campaign will promote Project ChildSafe resources on how to talk to teens about mental health, make homes safer for those who may be at risk and help reduce the risk of suicide among teens. These resources include:
Project ChildSafe also has resources designed specifically for teens to help them recognize suicide warning signs in their friends, take steps to start a conversation and get support from trusted adults who can help.
“It’s more important than ever to ensure that parents know how to talk to teens about mental health and preventing access to potentially lethal means in their homes, including firearms. These two steps combined can help save lives,” said Bartozzi.

‘Black Friday’ NICS Checks Tick Up in 2022
WASHINGTON, D.C. — NSSF®, The Firearm Industry Trade Association, revealed that the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Checks System (NICS) completed 711,372 background checks for the purchase of a firearm at retail during the week leading up to and including Black Friday. FBI’s NICS recorded 192,749 background checks on Black Friday alone, ranking it third in the Top 10 Highest Days for NICS checks and a 2.8 percent increase from Black Friday 2021, when 187,585 background checks were completed. The NICS checks are unadjusted, representing raw data from the FBI and are inclusive of all background checks related to firearms.
NSSF has worked with firearm retailers to spread out special sales offers to customers throughout the week leading up to Black Friday so as not to overwhelm FBI NICS on Black Friday which can result in longer than normal wait times.
“Background checks for firearm purchases were already trending to make 2022 the third strongest year on record, coming off of the outsized years of 2020 and 2021,” explained Joe Bartozzi, NSSF President and CEO. “These figures tell us that there is a continued strong appetite for lawful firearm ownership by law-abiding Americans and that firearm manufacturers across the country continue to deliver the quality firearms our customers have come to expect.”
Annual background check data indicated that firearm sales will typically rise during the final month of the year coinciding with hunting seasons and holiday sales.
