San Antonio, Texas (January 30, 2023) – Blaser Group is pleased to introduce the award-winning Mauser M18 bolt-action rifle in two camo patterns – U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) and Fred Bear Old School Camo. These newest M18 models have the same features as the Savanna tan version – a rugged composite stock with grip inserts and a threaded barrel for the addition of a suppressor or muzzle break.

Keep Knives Sharp at Hunting Camp

Baton Rouge, LA (January 30, 2023) – Selecting a sharpening system for a hunting camp can be a tricky business. There are many choices available for keeping your steel keen, and even more knife manufacturers and blade style options.

What is a hunting knife exactly? After the hunt, a hunting knife prepares the game for food. This includes but is not limited to skinning and boning. Some hunting knives may have a blade with both a curved portion for skinning and a straight portion for cutting slices of meat. You’ll also find that some blades incorporate a Gut Hook. 

A whetstone (water stone) is a rectangular stone with a gritty surface used to sharpen knives and other metal tools. Whetstones can be natural or synthetic. Natural whetstones can have a slower process than synthetic but produce a fantastic cutting edge without removing much steel. A whetstone requires a certain skill level to use successfully, can be heavy, bulky, and is one-dimensional at the end of the day.



A quick and convenient alternative to packing whetstones is the Warthog V-Sharp XE (Xtreme Edge) which features 4 Snap-in Angle Adjustments (17°, 20°, 25°, 30°) weighing in at 8 ounces of durable ABS plastic; the V-Sharp XE is waterproof. Skinning, fillet, and kitchen knives use 17°- 20° angles, making the V-Sharp XE the obvious choice. Gut Hook File- Gut Hook knives feature sharp, semi-circle “hooks” behind the knife’s tip. The gut hook serves more than one purpose. For hunters and anglers, it helps open up the gut cavity of a kill by first making a small incision on the underside. Then, the gut hook is put into the small opening and pulled down like a zipper. This makes it easier and potentially faster to field dress game and dramatically reduces the chance of puncturing an internal organ. A gut hook is a utility tool for slicing cordage/rope on the utility side. A significant drawback to a gut hook is how difficult it can be to sharpen. Still, many hunters consider the gut hook feature a must-have when field dressing game. COLUMBIA, S.C. — NSSF®— The Firearm Industry Trade Association — Columbia Mayor Daniel Rickenmann, the Office of Congressman Joe Wilson and local law enforcement agencies, along with local veterans, conservation, youth, faith and sporting organizations today launched “Project ChildSafe® Columbia,” a citywide initiative to help prevent firearm accidents, theft and misuse, including suicide.

“We’re launching Project ChildSafe Columbia to help prevent gun accidents, suicides and the theft and misuse of firearms,” said Joe Bartozzi, NSSF’s President and CEO and Chairman of the Project ChildSafe Foundation. “We know secure storage is the number one way to help prevent unauthorized access to firearms, and we’re grateful to all our local partners for joining us in this effort.”

Local organizations participating in the program along with NSSF, Mayor Rickenmann and Congressman Wilson include the Columbia Police Department, the Richland County Sheriff’s Department, the West Columbia Police Department, the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, the South Carolina Department of Veterans Affairs, the Kershaw County Chapter of Armed Women of America, Sandhill Shooting Sports, Put Down The Guns Now Young People organization and St. Paul Baptist Church.

NSSF and its local partners are providing thousands of free gun locks, along with educational resources, to the community through its Project ChildSafe initiative, which has distributed more than 40 million free gun locks through partnerships with thousands of law enforcement agencies across the U.S. since its founding in 1999. This new on-the-ground effort complements a digital campaign program NSSF and Project ChildSafe launched in Columbia last fall to emphasize firearm safety in the Columbia area.

“We want to provide members of the Columbia community with the resources and tools to take the rights steps in properly securing firearms,” said Columbia Mayor Daniel Rickenmann. “These steps are essential in preventing tragedies, and we’re grateful for NSSF’s partnership and other local leaders for their efforts to make our community safer.”

To support suicide prevention across the city, the local effort will also provide free copies of Project ChildSafe’s Parents Resource guide focused on teen mental health and secure firearm storage, developed in partnership with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

“It’s been an honor working with NSSF to give out free gun locks and connect community members with the right tools to help save lives,” said Chief W.H. “Skip” Holbrook of the Columbia Police Department. “These locks and materials are free to everyone, and we want to encourage gun owners to securely store them when not in use to make the community of Columbia a safer place for everyone.”

Emporia, Va. (January 2023) – Innovative Forensic Investigations (IFI), an investigative genetic genealogy firm providing services to law enforcement and government agencies nationwide, bring their client agencies through the entire collaborative process from first contact to conclusion. When an investigation hits a dead end, or a cold case is reopened, the investigative agent contacts an IFI representative. The first question usually concerns the lab where the evidence will be analyzed for DNA.

IFI works with multiple labs offering a variety of DNA sequencing and analysis. Several cases IFI has worked on included evidence in the form of human hair. IFI utilized the services of Astrea Forensics, one of the few labs that work with degraded samples including rootless hair. IFI frequently also uses the forensic testing and genealogy services of Gene by Gene, that not only offers state-of-the-art biotechnology, but also provides the FamilyTreeDNA database for familial matching purposes. Another lab IFI works with is DNA Labs International for their exceptional extraction ability.

Currently, IFI is working with Intermountain Forensics, an ANAB Accredited forensic testing laboratory. Intermountain Forensics, just recently, was able to build a profile from a mixed sample for IFI. Moore also mentions that in the very near future, IFI will also offer the new Kintelligence technology by Verogen, owners of GEDmatch, in which the forensically curated markers avoid the use of medically informative or minor allele frequency SNPs.

Although this rifle utilizes a 33-inch barrel, its bullpup design keeps the maximum length under 4 ft. The side-lever cocking mechanism is easy to reach and operate.

A 480 cc carbon fiber bottle fills to 4350 PSI and will provide up to 6 high-powered shots on a single fill. A built-in pressure gauge aids in monitoring pressure in the cylinder, and a quick-fill nozzle allows easy refilling. The PileDriver’s unique, patented hammer design eliminates traditional steel coil springs in favor of a smoother, easier-to-cock, gas piston mechanism. This top-loading single-shot rifle also features an extra-large loading port that will accommodate ammo up to 34mm in length.

The rifle’s 14-inch-long scope rail is cut to accept both picatinny and 11 mm dovetail mounts, offering plenty of real estate for various optics. Three picatinny accessory rails are attached around the air bottle for added customization. The high-strength steel barrel is precision rifled for long-range accuracy, and the absence of a shroud allows for sabot rounds, further expanding one’s ammunition options. The fully adjustable 2-stage Quattro trigger is another customizable feature the .62 Caliber PileDriver offers. The receiver is anodized in black, and a manual safety is included.

The all-weather, synthetic bullpup stock features an ergonomic pistol grip with textured grip surfaces for enhanced feel and control. The soft rubber buttpad is both elevation and angle adjustable to ensure controlled recoil and a comfortable fit. An elevation adjustable cheek rest ensures proper sight alignment with any optic.

NSSF Files to Block Enforcement of Illinois Gun & Magazine Ban

WASHINGTON, D.C. — NSSF®, The Firearm Industry Trade Association, filed a motion for a preliminary injunction to block state authorities from enforcing HB 5471, the recently-enacted “Protect Illinois Communities Act,” which bans the sale of several hundred of the most commonly-owned semiautomatic rifles in America, including all rifles on the very popular Modern Sporting Rifle (MSR) platform. That same law also bans the possession of standard-capacity magazines and certain models of semiautomatic handguns. This unconstitutional law unquestionably violates the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding Illinois citizens and the state should be enjoined immediately from enforcing it.

“NSSF filed this motion for a preliminary injunction because every day this unconstitutional law is on the books, law-abiding citizens are being denied their right to keep and bear arms of their choosing for self-defense and other lawful purposes,” said Lawrence G. Keane, NSSF Senior Vice President and General Counsel. “This ban on MSRs and other commonly-owned rifles, standard-capacity magazines and certain handguns was passed in open defiance of the Supreme Court’s Bruen and Heller decisions. The Second Amendment protects the right of a citizen to freely approach a gun counter to legally purchase commonly-owned firearms, unless, as the Supreme Court held in Bruen, the state can prove its law is part of a historic, national tradition and heritage of banning such arms – something the state obviously cannot do.”

HB 5471 is among the nation’s most expansive gun control laws. It bans the sale of hundreds of models of rifles, including commonly-owned MSRs, certain semiautomatic handguns and rifle and pistol magazines with a capacity greater than 10 and 15 ammunition cartridges, respectively. There are over 24.4 million MSRs in circulation today, more popular than the top selling Ford F-150 and hundreds of millions of standard-capacity magazines owned by tens of millions of Americans.

(January 2023) – Cold Case Initiative (CCI), a nonprofit assisting agencies with funding to offset the cost of techniques used to solve cold cases, violent crimes, missing persons, and unidentified decedents, is pleased to partner with Innovative Forensic Investigations (IFI), an investigative genetic genealogy firm providing services to law enforcement and government agencies nationwide. IFI will provide CCI access to its full suite of investigative genetic genealogy services. CCI will fund any legitimate investigative step needed in a cold case in addition to investigative genetic genealogy.

The funding that CCI gives to chosen law enforcement agencies is provided by the public through generous donations. Across the nation, agencies are looking for new, innovative ways to advance their most difficult cases, but limited funding is holding them back from bringing their ideas to fruition. Contributions from the public provide much-needed funds to law enforcement agencies to ensure they have access to the most cutting-edge tools and technology to advance their investigations. With a shrouded barrel of just 7.9 in., the JET comes in at a compact length of only 15 in. without the stock and 22.8 in.-24.6 in. with the adjustable buttstock added. It’s lightweight to boot! Coming in at a mere 2 lbs. without the stock (2.9 lbs. with it), this PCP air gun is perfect to toss in your backpack for any hunting or camping trip. Built with a full length 11 mm dovetail rail to accommodate a variety of optics, the JET also includes 3 integrated adjustable flip-up sights. Plus, it’s got picatinny rails mounted to both sides of the receiver/air cylinder for additional accessories, like a flashlight.

Rogers, AR (January 26, 2023) – New for 2023 HatsanUSA® introduces the big brother to the Factor RC with the Factor BP. This all-new, highly customizable, pre-charged, pneumatic, bullpup airgun is available in 2 popular big bore calibers – .30 and .35.

Among its many features, is the adjustable soft rubber pistol grip that is textured to provide maximum grip and control. The 5-position telescoping buttstock also features an elevation adjustable cheek rest that can be moved in 5 mm increments up to 40 mm tall or removed for low-profile optics. Hatsan’s famous fully-adjustable Quattro Trigger includes a trigger pad that can be moved vertically and rotated left or right for maximum precision and comfort.

The Factor BP’s power output is highly adjustable, featuring an externally adjustable pressure regulator with an output pressure gauge and an externally adjustable hammer preload adjuster helps fine-tune power output and cocking effort. The Factor BP features a removable 580 cc carbon fiber air tank and is also equipped with a Foster-style quick-disconnect fill inlet. An integrated, color-coded manometer allows the system pressure to be easily monitored.

The 32 in. long precision rifled barrel will ensure accuracy, while Hatsan’s QuietEnergy technology, full-length barrel shroud, will reduce noise output. A standard ½ in. UNF threaded muzzle piece is included to allow a larger sound moderator or air stripper to be added without modifications. Two high-capacity SwingLoad magazines (that can be linked together to facilitate faster mag changes) and a single-shot tray for precision loading are included to round out the Factor BP’s features. A picatinny rail is installed beneath the forearm, along with a combination picatinny and 11 mm dovetail rail that accepts a wide range of optic mounts.

At SHOT Show 2023, C&H Precision’s proprietary pistol optic line, the EDC, will be on display for the first time. The new EDC is a perfect compact pistol optic for any potential use. Home defense, range time, and EDC are well within the capabilities of this red dot. This EDC is built with ’shake awake’ technology and will turn itself off after 5 minutes of no use, preserving the 50,000-hour battery life. Being CNC constructed from one piece of aluminum makes it easy to make it IPX7 water resistant. This means it can be submerged in 1 meter of water for 30 minutes. To make this the perfect optic for any pistol, it is also Shock Rated for +P and +P+.

When it comes to overall usability and function, several elements put the EDC ahead of the curve. While still offering a plethora of standard features, there is also a multi-reticle option. A user can choose between a 3 MOA dot, 34 MOA circle, or a combination of the two. With a windage and elevation adjustment of up to 70 MOA total – 35 MOA in each direction – it’s sure to adjust to various firearms. It’s more than suitable for a wide variety of eyes as well. The 16mm lens diameter provides plenty of space for target acquisition. Overall, the EDC’s weight is 17g with a battery installed.

Granbury, TX (January 25, 2023) – Bond Arms® is excited to announce that a concept lever action rifle has taken top prize at SHOT Show 2023, winning this year’s RECOIL Magazine’s Best in Show for Best Firearm.

The shooting, hunting and outdoor world converged at the Venetian Expo and Convention Center in Las Vegas last week to take in all the new products from numerous brands. A significant event for the shooting sports industry with everyone from optics to tactical gear and hunting manufacturers present, RECOIL Magazine declared Bond Arms concept lever action rifle the best among firearms at the event.

This year, Bond Arms set out to create a ground-up modern lever action, with many of the design objectives deriving from the last 60+ years of AR-15 development. Features like rotating bolt for strength and precision, chambering of modern cartridges, user configurability and modularity, as well as the utilization of modern materials were all a point of emphasis.

The result is compatibility with the AR-15 platform in components critical to changings calibers, including barrels, bolts, and magazines. While there is also compatibility with AR-15 upper receivers and handguards, there is an additional opportunity to optimize these components for this application by eliminating the gas system and moving sighting systems almost a ½ in. closer to the bore.

Bond Arms owner, Gordon Bond, shared some of the inspiration for this firearms creation process. “At Shot Show 2019, right before Covid, we were sitting around after the show and we started talking about, “If we built a Lever Action Long Gun”, what cool features would we want to add? After discussing what things we liked about Lever Action guns, we started talking about how we could improve the features and performance. Most Lever Action guns have a very long lever throw, so we thought it would be cool to do a Short Lever Throw that would actually be smoother than the normal long throw. We also thought that it would be cool to utilize all the new technologies in play over the last 60 years with the AR market and make it a magazine fed system.”

“Little did we know that cycling a 5 round magazine was easy, but cycling a 30 round magazine with a lever gun was nearly impossible.”

“We spent over a year redesigning the lever system and actually came up with a very clever cam system that will aggressively extract a round out of a 30 round magazine with no problem and it allowed for a very short throw even with the longest rounds. It was so good, we did a patent pending on this and several other things we discovered going through this design process. Also, with all the interchangeable barrels we have with our current guns, we wanted to make it easily convertible to other calibers to add more cool factor.”

While the system was originally envisioned as a quiet and fast handling suppressor host (also allowing full capacity in short barrel configurations, unlike traditional lever actions), ironically the same manual action resulted in a compliant design for restrictive states. The lever loop is user configurable both for personal preference, and to match readily available Remington 870 stocks. The system utilizes the out-of-battery safety inherent in conventional AR-15 bolt carriers, as well as both manual and grip safeties. It features a magazine release location and feel familiar to AR-15 shooters, while also having an ambidextrous release.

The intent is to have complete rifles at launch, although pistols and build kits are possibilities down the road. The lever action firearm will likely initially launch in 5.56, 300 Blackout, and a large bore offering. The platform will also support any chambering using a standard rotating AR-15 bolt. Although still in development, the goal is availability in approximately a year.

Gordon Bond was particularly excited for the accolade. “We’re really proud of what we accomplished with our first showing of this concept lever action rifle. This was an extremely successful show for us, and we’re really excited not only for this product to hit the market, but for our future growth of the company”

C&H Precision: A New Enclosed Optic Ready to Work, the C&H DUTY

Richmond Hill, GA (January 17, 2022) – Fully enclosed optics have long been the benchmark for durability. Having emitters protected from dirt and debris makes sense in harsh environments. Likewise, optical glass is well protected from unnecessary damage and scratches. While not always necessary, users often prefer this additional peace of mind in their optics when used in areas of high failure due to physical damage or abrasive elements. What’s even more difficult is finding an optic that meets all these needs and is small enough to be mounted to a pistol. C&H Precision beings that need to consumers in the DUTY pistol optic.



The DUTY is a side-clamp mount enclosed optic that keeps dust, rain, twigs, grass or other foreign objects out of the optic. Manufactured from one-piece CNC aircraft aluminum housing, it comes Shock Rated for +P and +P+ and is waterproof. In addition, the IPX7 rating allows for 1 meter of submersion for up to 30 minutes. Enclosed is a CR 2023 lithium battery to power an optic with a 50,000-hour life. A shake-awake and auto-off after 5 minutes are standard to preserve the battery life.

DUTY comes with two options of reticle color; red or green. In addition, there is an option for a multi-reticle system. While a 3 MOA dot comes standard on all models, the multi-reticle system comes with a 48 MOA circle that can be used independently or in conjunction with the 3 MOA dot. These reticles have ten brightness settings, two of which are night vision compatible.

No one can ever predict the exact environment they will find themselves in when they need to defend themselves. An optic that can handle a vast array of environmental hazards and operate at maximum efficiency takes the guesswork out of optic choice. DUTY from C&H Precision provides the best protection for a pistol optic; it’s at home in the sand as much as the swamp.

The COMP is an all-around solution for users who demand and crave a large window pistol optic that remains protected by CNC aluminum housing. Not only does this make it a rugged and durable solution, but it also fulfills the industry need for a large sight window to better identify acquired targets or to move rapidly from one target to another.

Suitable for competition, carry, or duty use, the COMP has many features rarely seen in a pistol optic. With ten brightness levels, accommodations can be made for any level of ambient light. The first two settings are designed for night vision compatibility, thereby increasing the usable applications of this pistol optic. The 50,000-hour battery life is quickly becoming the new industry standard, and C&H has met that goal. The COMP provides auto on/off technology to save on battery life. Shake-awake tech turns on the optic when moved, and after 5 minutes of inactivity, the optic reticle turns itself off. This smart power management provides a near guarantee that it will not fail when needed the most. This is all powered by a single CR 2032 3V lithium battery.

Proper housing is essential for continued durability and protection from additional damage with any large, windowed optic. The COMP features a one-piece CNC machined housing made from aircraft-quality aluminum. The housing is durable, and the internals are Shock Rated for +P and +P+ and waterproof. Regular slide reciprocation is no match for the dependability of this new release, and it’s guaranteed for 1500G for 1000 times. As with other recent releases, an IPX7 rating comes standard, offering 1 meter of water resistance for up to 30 minutes.

There is no doubt the COMP is a formidable pistol optic in a world of wide-ranging options. When target acquisition and clarity in identification are paramount, the COMP can easily fill the role. This large optical window lends itself perfectly to the EDC, competition, and duty pistol optic needs. With the Phoenix, we stretched traditional design boundaries and eagerly awaited the market response.  Since the time of its launch over 2 years ago, the Phoenix has become far and away Grayboe’s best-selling commercial stock.  So we decided to design a hunting stock with some of the same aesthetic principles, and the Eagle was, well… hatched. The Eagle takes the best features of the Phoenix and creates a lightweight, feature-heavy hunting riflestock.

These modifications slow down the manufacturing process driving the base price of the stock up; a two-for-one bad deal for the customer.  The development of the Eagle is another step in the advancement of Grayboe’s universal philosophy.  Whatever barrel you have, whatever Remington clone you have, it will fit without any interference or modification.  Everything drops right in.

The Colt Defender – A Carry-Ready 1911 in a Compact Size

WEST HARTFORD, CONN. (January 24, 2023) – The Colt Defender lives up to its name, offering power, performance, and concealability. It’s an accurate and reliable workhorse that withstands the rigors of grueling range sessions and everyday carry. Colt’s Defender 1911 pistol series is an excellent choice for concealed carry and is available in three models.

Classic 1911 styling is evident throughout the Defender. Features like an upswept beavertail grip safety, commander-style hammer, and familiar controls allow a seamless transition from full-sized pistols to the compact Defender series. Modern enhancements include a dual recoil system that lessens recoil, a high-swept grip safety, and an undercut trigger guard for better control, all of which contribute to an exceptional grip and quick target acquisition.

The Defender includes features intended to enhance concealability, function, and performance in a personal defense engagement. Its front night sight pairs with a blackened NOVAK rear sight for rapid target acquisition in all light conditions. The barrel, a mere 3 inches long, shortens the Defender’s overall length. At the same time, an integrated carry bevel on the front of the slide also helps glide the pistol effortlessly into a holster.

The Defended SS model features a lightweight aluminum frame with a matte stainless-steel finish, topped with a forged stainless-steel slide. It’s a pistol that looks as good as it conceals. Blued models use a deep blue metal finish. All models are equipped with specially designed G10 grips to prevent printing – a vital factor for deep concealment.

IDV, a leading international defence player with over 85 years of experience in the development and manufacturing of a wide range of protected vehicles for military use, announces it has entered into an agreement to become the majority shareholder in MIRA UGV, HORIBA MIRA’s Uncrewed Ground Vehicle (UGV) division. The agreement combines IDV’s expertise as a manufacturer of defence vehicles with its technological know-how and global production capabilities, with HORIBA MIRA’s position as a sector-leading company in delivering state-of-the-art Uncrewed Ground Vehicle solutions. The agreement also provides capital and capability to move HORIBA MIRA’s UGV platforms and technology to the next stage of development and production.

The Korte NXS, where German engineering meets high capacity. The modern looks of the NXS feature a ventilated barrel shroud for faster cooling and remarkable aesthetics. The frame also features a Picatinny rail for the option of a mounted scope or red dot, making it more versatile. This revolver also brings an 8-shot cylinder to the table for the first time in Korah’s prestigious history. The cylinder of the NXS includes a cut to accommodate moon clips for unmatched reloading speeds.

The NXS is offered with either a 4″ or 6″ barrel. The hammer-forged precision barrel is housed with integrated Picatinny rails on top and bottom. Since 1954, Korte has built a reputation of building the world’s finest revolvers and as soon as you pick one up, you will understand. The NXS is finished in a DLC finish, which makes this revolver as durable as it is beautiful, and pairs with a set of Turkish walnut grips. This model has an adjustable rear sight and 14k gold bead front sight. The NXS also an optional 8 shot interchangeable 9mm cylinder available as an upgrade.
