IMDEX 2023: RAFAEL and DSIT Unveil Unique Torpedo Integrated Defense Suite for Surface Vessels

May 4, 2023: RAFAEL and its subsidiary DSIT are participating in IMDEX 2023 and are introducing the TORBUSTER SP.

In the modern naval battlespace, the threat of torpedoes poses complex challenges for not only submarines, but also surface vessels. As the capabilities of torpedoes have advanced, the need for more sophisticated defense has as well. RAFAEL and DSIT have developed a one-of-a-kind solution to address this urgent operational need: a comprehensive torpedo defense suite for surface ships. This innovative suite includes the highly effective Blackfish and Monkfish Torpedo Detection and Alert Sonar (TDAS) Hull Mounted Sonar (HMS) systems, which are designed to work continuously while the ships are at sea and equipped with the latest technology to actively detect, classify, track, and alert on incoming torpedoes.

In addition, the suite features RAFAEL’s ground-breaking TORBUSTER SP hard kill decoy, which can be strategically mounted on ships to deceive and neutralize incoming torpedoes, providing critical seconds for the ships to maneuver and evade attack.

The TORBUSTER SP can defend against both passive and active torpedoes, as well as wake-homing torpedoes. In the case of passive torpedoes, TORBUSTER SP can simulate the ship’s acoustic signature to lure the torpedo away from the vessel. For active torpedoes, it can provide a near real-time tailored response based on the torpedo’s transmission. The TORBUSTER SP is designed to neutralize incoming torpedoes and prevent re-attacks.

RAFAEL and DSIT’s torpedo defense suite is a force multiplier that provides surface ships with ultimate protection against torpedo attacks, giving ship operators a qualitative edge at sea.

Rogers, AR (May 3, 2023) – New for 2023, HatsanUSA® highlights the big brother to the Factor RC with the Factor BP. This highly customizable, pre-charged, pneumatic, bullpup airgun is available in 2 popular big bore calibers – .30 and .35.

Among its many features, is the adjustable soft rubber pistol grip that is textured to provide maximum grip and control. The 5-position telescoping buttstock also features an elevation adjustable cheek rest that can be moved in 5 mm increments up to 40 mm tall or removed for low-profile optics. Hatsan’s famous fully-adjustable Quattro Trigger includes a trigger pad that can be moved vertically and rotated left or right for maximum precision and comfort.

The Factor BP’s power output is highly adjustable, featuring an externally adjustable pressure regulator with an output pressure gauge and an externally adjustable hammer preload adjuster helps fine-tune power output and cocking effort. The Factor BP features a removable 580 cc carbon fiber air tank and is also equipped with a Foster-style quick-disconnect fill inlet. An integrated, color-coded manometer allows the system pressure to be easily monitored.

The 32 in. long precision rifled barrel will ensure accuracy, while Hatsan’s QuietEnergy technology, full-length barrel shroud, will reduce noise output. A standard ½ in. UNF threaded muzzle piece is included to allow a larger sound moderator or air stripper to be added without modifications. Two high-capacity SwingLoad magazines (that can be linked together to facilitate faster mag changes) and a single-shot tray for precision loading are included to round out the Factor BP’s features. A picatinny rail is installed beneath the forearm, along with a combination picatinny and 11 mm dovetail rail that accepts a wide range of optic mounts.

These premium features add another level of precision and consistency that can place over 25 shots on target from a single fill and come in a package that weighs just 9 lbs. The Factor BP provides ultimate power, performance, customization, and competition.

Grand Island, NE (May 3, 2023) – Hornady makes reloading quick and easy with the Lock-N-Load® AP™ (Auto-Progressive) system. Set up the Hornady Lock-N-Load AP (Auto-Progressive) system and calibrate it for the shooter’s specific load, then start filling the ammo cans quickly and reliably. This professional grade system helps let shooters reload hundreds of rounds per hour.

This automatic indexing, 5-station progressive press features Hornady patented Lock-N-Load bushing system. Dies lock in place with a twist, secured by six locking lugs. To change calibers, twist the die counterclockwise, remove it, and insert the next preset Lock-N-Load die and bushing. Because they remain set in their Lock-N-Load bushings, the dies remain as set – in perfect, solid alignment.

Pull once, and the shell plate delivers five cases upward to their respective position in the process. The auto-indexing function moves the plate half a stage on the down stroke and half on the up stroke, making for ultra-smooth functioning compared to other presses that do all their indexing on the down stroke. Every pull of the handle delivers precise measures of powder, bullet seating, priming, and ejection, resulting in a perfectly loaded cartridge.

Experienced reloaders will feel the difference the first time they use the Hornady Lock-N-Load AP. The unit’s Power-Pac Linkage System multiplies and accelerates leverage, giving reloaders more power with less effort, letting you smoothly reload without arm fatigue.

The 29-pound unit mounts quickly and securely to a favorite level bench with two 5/16-inch bolts. All reloaders need to begin are dies and shell plates. The quick-change bushing system allows easy transitions. Go from loading .223 Rem. to .45s in fewer than five minutes. A case-activated powder drop dispenses measured powder charge only when a cartridge case is present. The Lock-N-Load powder measure uses quick-change metering inserts that allow reloaders to switch from one powder to another with the push of a button. Add one to each die set for the ultimate in quick changeovers. Changing from large to small primers is similarly straightforward. Swap out the primer seater punch, the primer shuttle, and the feed tube.

Finished cartridges reliably eject with every stroke via the EZject™ System. If reloaders need to pull, replace or insert a case from the plate at any time, the case retainer spring provides fast, easy access at any point in the process.

Staten Island, NY – The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) will be exhibiting Project ChildSafe at Celerant’s annual client conference next week in Atlanta. Project ChildSafe is a program dedicated to firearm safety and education, and Celerant’s retail software makes it easy for dealers to support the program by accepting donations in their store, range and website. To support Project ChildSafe, Celerant is contributing $1,500 worth of raffles to dealers that collect donations through Celerant’s retail software.

MIAMI — Trade Show Executive (TSE) magazine has named Colleen Leonard, NSSF® Manager of Conferences and Events, as a 2023 TSE Trailblazer, an honor that recognizes future leaders in the trade show industry.

TSE Trailblazers are selected by a panel of TSE editors based on various criteria, including demonstrable excellence in trade show management, innovative contributions, problem-solving and achievements within the last year. The program is open to non-executive-level staff of show management.

The Trailblazers were honored this week at TSE’s Fastest 50 Awards and Summit at the Miami Beach Convention Center and will be featured in an upcoming issue of Trade Show Executive magazine.

“Colleen is a big part of the success of NSSF’s conferences and events, so we’re very proud to see her receive this great recognition by Trade Show Executive,” said Melissa Schilling, NSSF Managing Director of Exhibitions and Conferences.

ARLINGTON, Va., May 2, 2023 – AeroVironment, Inc. (NASDAQ: AVAV) has been awarded a $10 million contract by NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) to co-design and co-develop conceptual designs and engineering development units of Mars Sample Recovery Helicopter flight systems. Future efforts could include detailed design, build, and test of qualification and flight hardware. The helicopters build upon the Ingenuity Mars Helicopter design heritage and feature upgraded robotics to supplement aerial mobility.

AeroVironment engineers from the MacCready Works team previously worked with NASA JPL to co-design and develop the Ingenuity Mars Helicopter, which has completed 52 successful flights to date on Mars and survived 781 sols on the surface, far outperforming its design objectives.

The two planned Sample Recovery Helicopters would be a secondary method of sample retrieval for the NASA/ESA Mars Sample Return Campaign. NASA’s Perseverance rover, which has already been collecting a diverse set of scientifically selected samples for potential safe return to Earth, is currently planned as the primary method of delivering samples to the Sample Retrieval Lander.

The Sample Recovery Helicopters would expand on Ingenuity’s design, adding wheels and gripping capabilities, to provide a secondary method to pick up cached sample tubes left on the surface by Perseverance and transport them to the Sample Retrieval Lander. Once the sample cache is launched off the red planet, another spacecraft would capture it in Mars orbit, and then bring it back to Earth safely and securely in the early to mid-2030s. After the samples are on Earth, scientists around the world would examine them using sophisticated instruments too large and complex to send to Mars. The samples would remain available for future generations to study with increasingly advanced technologies. Scientists believe the samples could shed light on whether life has ever existed on Mars.

The new version of the rechargeable pistol-grip spotlight offers up to 1,400 lumens of ultra-bright white light with 400,000 candela and a beam distance of 1,265 meters for enhanced down-range lighting capability. The portable light can be used as either a handheld mobile searchlight, or, with its integrated stand, as a hands-free scene light to illuminate an area.

The Waypoint 400 uses power LED technology and a deep-dish parabolic reflector for long-range targeting with optimum peripheral illumination. On the high setting, it features 400,000 candela, a 1,265-meter beam distance, and 1,400 lumens. On medium, it provides 600 lumens and an 812-meter beam distance; on low it offers 38 lumens and a beam distance of 200 meters. The new light runs for 3.25 to 84 hours on high and low, respectively.
The Waypoint 400 uses a rechargeable lithium-ion battery that fully charges in four hours. A convenient LED charging indicator provides charging status.
The rugged Waypoint 400 features an unbreakable polycarbonate lens and is O-ring sealed. With a trigger-style switch for momentary or “constant-on” operation, the light boasts a cushioned grip handle that eliminates user hand fatigue. The light includes an adjustable, high-strength wrist lanyard, and features an integrated stand for hands-free lighting.
The lightweight Waypoint 400 weighs 1.52 pounds and measures 6.75 inches long by 7.14 inches high. It features an IPX8-rated design for waterproof operation to two meters, and is impact-resistant to one meter.

Texas Gun Experience Earns NSSF Five-Star Range Rating

GRAPEVINE, Texas — NSSF®, The Firearm Industry Trade Association, has awarded Texas Gun Experience its Five-Star rating for range excellence. Five stars is the highest rating in NSSF’s star-rating system, which evaluates shooting facilities on appearance, management, shooting sports development and amenities.

Located in Grapevine, Texas, within the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area, Texas Gun Experience is owned by two military veterans—the Stanyer brothers, Jared and Joseph. Jared served as a captain in the U.S. Marine Corps where he was an aviation supply/logistics officer, and Joseph served in the U.S. Army as a Blackhawk helicopter pilot. Richmond Hill, GA (May 2, 2023) – While polymer striker-fired pistols revolutionized the defensive and competition shooting world, there is always room for improvement. Glock – one of the most recognized firearm brand names in the world – has long been the standard for striker-fired pistols. They continue to expand their offerings with new generations of firearms. However, one area with room for improvement on Glock firearms is the cavity in the grip.

Many companies have produced grip plugs for a variety of reasons. One of the first reasons is to keep dirt and debris out of the cavity in the handle. Another reason is that it’s wasted space and can offer a bit of counterbalance to assist in straight and effective shooting or storage. Lastly, many offer an intricate design to assist the feeding of a magazine into the mag well.

NSSF Applauds Gov. DeSantis Signing Anti-ESG Law

WASHINGTON, D.C. — NSSF®, The Firearm Industry Trade Association, applauds Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis for signing HB 3, legislation the governor made a priority earlier this year. HB 3 will prevent “woke” corporations with discriminatory policies against firearm industry members and other businesses from collecting taxpayer dollars through state contracts and pensions. Simply put, the Sunshine State will choose to do business with those companies that do not discriminate based on an industry they may not like or with which they disagree politically.

“This is a promise kept by Governor DeSantis. He said he would ensure that ‘woke’ corporations would not benefit from Florida’s tax dollars while those same corporations actively discriminate against lawful but disfavored businesses. Today, Governor DeSantis delivered on that promise,” said Lawrence G. Keane, Senior Vice President and General Counsel for NSSF. “The firearm industry is deeply grateful to the legislators who worked diligently to protect industries that are wrongfully denied essential financial services simply because ‘woke’ Wall Street banks politically disagree with them. Wall Street can choose to hold on to those ‘woke’ discriminatory policies but Governor DeSantis has made it clear that Florida will choose to do business with those that share Floridians’ values.”

The legislation builds on a ban Gov. DeSantis signed last year prohibiting “woke” Environmental, Social and Governance investment strategies with state and municipal pension funds.

Gov. DeSantis explained at the signing ceremony that ESG policies that discriminate against politically-disfavored industries are antithetical to free market enterprise and have no place in Florida.

“Last year we said we were going to take action against something called ESG. It stands for something called environmental and social governance. But what it really is is an attempt by elites to impose ideology through business institutions, financial institutions, and our economy writ large,” Gov. DeSantis said, according to Florida Politics. “ESG is basically just window dressing for doing what these people want to do. … It’s really an elite driven phenomenon. They’re trying to change society. They’re trying to change policy.”

NEWINGTON, N.H., (April 28, 2023) – SIG SAUER, Inc. is honored to announce the conclusion of the Fourth Annual SIG Relentless Warrior Championship. On Friday, April 7 through Saturday, April 8, 2023, over one hundred cadets from the United States Air Force Academy, United States Naval Academy, United States Coast Guard Academy, United States Military Academy at West Point, Norwich University, Texas A & M, Virginia Military Institute, Virginia Tech and the Royal Military College of Canada competed in the SIG Relentless Warrior Championship at the SIG SAUER Academy in Epping, New Hampshire. The course of fire consisted of six mission stages that tested the marksmanship and leadership skills of our future military leaders. The U.S. Military Academy at West Point Combat Weapons Team defended their title for the third year in a row to earn the honor of 2023 SIG Relentless Warrior Champion.

“The SIG SAUER Relentless Warrior Championship serves as the capstone event for our club’s training throughout the year. It provides a unique test of shooting ability, physical agility, and problem-solving while engaging with peers from other service academies, senior ROTC programs, and allied nations. SIG’s superb facilities and world-class staff make this an unforgettable experience,” said MAJ Sean Marquis – OIC of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point Combat Weapons Team.

“The goal of the Combat Weapons Team is to develop highly proficient shooters, leaders, and instructors. From the moment a cadet joins the team, they begin an immersion into understanding firearms, the principles of marksmanship, physical fitness, mindset, combat shooting, accuracy, speed, and tactics. This cross-training of disciplines helps mold them into amazing tactical and competitive shooters,” continued Gary Salman, Head Coach, U.S. Military Academy at West Point Combat Weapons Team. “Every new season, we train with the intention of embracing the SIG Relentless Warrior mindset. This mindset helps instill the goals we have as a cohesive team. I am so proud of the accomplishments of our entire team, especially some of our new members who have never participated in a competition before. Columbia Falls, Mont. (April 2023) –PROOF Research®’s Weapons Test Specialist, Greg Hamilton, and Sean Murphy of Nightforce Optics have won first place at the Real World Sniper Challenge presented by Dark Corner Concepts. The event was held from April 21 to 23 at Bridle Iron South in Refugio, TX, USA.

The Real World Sniper Challenge is a highly anticipated event that attracts some of the world’s most skilled precision rifle shooters. The competition is known for its challenging and realistic scenarios, designed to test the participants’ shooting abilities and tactics in real-world situations. Teams were required to carry a minimum of 200 rifle rounds and 150 handgun rounds, in addition to all their other equipment for the three days of continuous operations. Besides accomplishing navigation, construction, detection, and stalking tasks, along with K.I.M.S. and casualty care, the teams engaged in targets at known and unknown distances in alternate firing positions.

Hamilton and Murphy proved their exceptional skills by taking first place in the competition, beating out a talented field of competitors. The duo’s performance showcased their superior teamwork and ability to adapt to the various challenges presented to them throughout the competition. The team credited much of their success to their hardware. Sean sported a PROOF Research 24” carbon fiber 6.5 Creedmoor, pre-fit barrel on his Accuracy International, and a PROOF Research 11.5” carbon fiber barrel on his gas gun. Greg ran a PROOF Research 20” stainless steel barrel on his 6.5 Creedmoor gas gun. The victory, once again, highlights the quality and performance of the PROOF Research barrels in extreme conditions.
