The Hyper Raptor utilizes a metal-injected molded trigger and TriggerTech™ Frictionless Release Technology (a $200 value). An Anti-Dry Fire (ADF) system and nock sensor are added to ensure the crossbow is loaded correctly. NSSF Praises House Committee for Standing with Hunters
WASHINGTON, D.C. — NSSF®, The Firearm Industry Trade Association, praises the U.S. House of Representatives Appropriations Committee for standing with America’s hunters and blocking anti-hunting and antigun special interests seeking to ban the use of traditional ammunition on federally-managed public lands.
“The approved language on the Interior appropriation bill is a significant victory for which NSSF has been advocating on behalf of sportsmen and women. This bill, when finally approved, will block attempts by the Biden administration to kowtow to special-interest groups to limit access to hunting on public lands by forcing hunters to purchase more expensive and less-available alternative ammunition,” said Lawrence G. Keane, NSSF’s Senior Vice President and General Counsel. “The Biden administration, in concert with anti-hunting groups, has been forcing through federal rules to ban the use of traditional ammunition on federally-managed lands that are devoid of scientific evidence that it causes detrimental impacts to wildlife conservation. The people’s representatives in Congress have had enough of government bureaucracies and special interest groups running roughshod on the American public. NSSF is grateful to Chairman Mike Simpson (R-Idaho) for his principled stand for America’s original conservationists.”
The House Appropriations Committee approved language included FY24 Interior Department spending bill that includes a provision preventing the Biden administration from using funds to enforce bans on traditional lead ammunition and fishing tackle on federal lands or waters for hunting or fishing activities unless certain conditions are met. NSSF has been a leading critic of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife (USFWS) Proposed and Final Rules offering a bait-and-switch deal to outdoorsmen and women. USFWS published a Final Rule and proposed another, that opens more hunting and fishing opportunities but bans the use of traditional lead ammunition. However, those rules lack sound site-specific, peer-reviewed scientific evidence that traditional ammunition is detrimental to wildlife conservation.
NSSF continues to support the Protecting Access for Hunters and Anglers Act, S. 1185, legation introduced by U.S. Sen. Steve Daines (R-Mont.) and a similar bill, H.R. 615 by U.S. Rep. Rob Wittman (R-Va.), to make these protections for outdoorsmen and women hunting on federal public lands permanent.
The firearm and ammunition industry is the leading funder of wildlife conservation in America. The firearm and ammunition industry has paid over $16 billion, or $25 billion when adjusted for inflation, for wildlife conservation and habitat restoration since 1937, through the 10 and 11 percent Pittman-Robertson excise taxes paid by manufacturers. Last year, over $1.1 billion of the $1.6 billion apportioned to the states from USFWS was directly sourced to taxes paid by the firearm and ammunition industry.
Those funds have been responsible for the remarkable wildlife conservation successes in America, including whitetail deer, pronghorn antelope, Rocky Mountain elk and waterfowl. Nongame wildlife also benefits from these conservation efforts, including the incredible recovery of the American bald eagle, which faced extinction in the 1970s but is now removed from both the Endangered and Threatened Species Lists.

SHOT University Issues Call for Presentations
LAS VEGAS — SHOT UniversityTM has issued a call for presentations for its educational sessions at the 2024 NSSF® SHOT Show®. SHOT University will take place January 23-26, during the 2024 NSSF SHOT Show in Las Vegas, Nevada.
SHOT University is the highly regarded offering of educational sessions that share models of success with the goal of elevating industry professionalism and success across many business types. SHOT University attracts decision-makers primarily from firearm industry retailers and shooting range businesses, with professionals from the conservation community, manufacturers, suppliers and trade media also attending.
Presentation Details
Proposed presentations must meet the 1-hour per session timeframe and should include at least 15 minutes of dedicated time for questions and answers from the audience.
Presentation proposals that are interactive in nature and include handouts (such as course booklets and/or whitepapers) are strongly encouraged.
Presentation submissions are due by September 1, 2023. All submissions received after this date will not be considered.
Presenters will be notified of acceptance via email by September 8, 2023. Presentations selected are at the sole discretion of the NSSF.

The 2023 World English Sporting Clays event held in the United Kingdom and the 2023 World FITASC event held in Hungary played host to some of the most talented sport shooters in the world.
Team USA took the field by storm, winning the overall team competition in the Men’s Senior, Lady, and Men’s Junior Divisions at both the World English and World FITASC event. As the official ammunition of Team USA, Winchester continued its high-level support of the top sport shooters in the world, supplying the famous AA® shotshells to all team members.

NSSF Announces 2023 Hunting Heritage Trust Grant Recipients
WASHINGTON, D.C. — NSSF®, The Firearm Industry Trade Association, is pleased to announce that it has selected five recipients to receive a portion of the $100,000 grant allotment provided by the NSSF Hunting Heritage Trust® for 2023.
“Preserving our hunting and shooting heritage relies on community-driven initiatives that find new and creative ways to engage both longtime enthusiasts and newcomers. Making hunting more accessible and welcoming for everyone is crucial for ensuring the future of these activities we hold dear,” said Joe Bartozzi, NSSF President and CEO. “We’re pleased to see numerous passionate organizations dedicated to getting more non-traditional audiences involved in the proud traditions of hunting and the shooting sports. We are honored to support them through these grants.”

These 2023 grant funds are the fifth to be released from the $1 million fund established in 2018 as the NSSF Hunting Heritage Trust. The grant was funded equally by NSSF and the Hunting Heritage Trust, which was founded by retired NSSF President and CEO Bob Delfay. This first-of-its-kind grant program works directly to support NSSF’s mission of promoting, protecting and preserving hunting and the shooting sports. It is designed to distribute funds for 10 consecutive years to organizations meeting eligibility requirements and intending to use the funds to support recruitment, retention and reactivation programs, known collectively as R3 efforts.

MUSKEGON, MI (July 19, 2023) – Fleece is an ambiguous thing. If a garment features fleece, the immediate perception is comfort and warmth. But oftentimes, nothing could be farther from the truth. Fleece can be flat and devoid of any loft. It can also be of such a deplorable grade that the material balls with minimal use and turns into a pancake after washing and drying.
Then there’s true Berber fleece, the material used in Blocker Outdoors’ new Shield Solstice Jacket and Pant. Berber fleece is constructed when yarn is knitted into fabric and wire brushed to pull the material together and fluff it up. The result is a material that has a looped, soft pile, with large air pockets that is comfortable and yields insulation. It instantly feels warm on contact and continues to retain that warmth.

In a Class of its Own: The Adept Armor Thunder, the Lightest Level 3+ Body Armor Plate

Tulsa, Okla. (July 2023) – Adept Armor, an armor system engineering firm, introduces the Thunder body armor RF2/Level 3+ plate – a lightweight torso plate that offers class-leading protection at an ultra-light weight of just 3.45 pounds at 10×12”.
For several years, Adept Armor has been researching advanced silicate strike-face materials to develop the ultimate in lightweight body armor plates. This culminated in the development of Amorphoid – a low-density/high-hardness glass-ceramic material which can outperform conventional ceramic and metallic strike-face materials in plates designed to stop “light AP” and steel-cored ball rounds.
Amorphoid is indefinitely stable and insensitive to extremes of heat, cold, and pressure. It is ceramic-like, but inherently lighter – roughly 12% less dense than boron carbide and 30% less dense than silicon carbide – and it can be made in very thin monolithic tile profiles.
Integrating the latest Amorphoid technology into the design and production of the new Thunder armor plates, Adept Armor has achieved the goal of producing the lightest weight body armor plate on the market today, without sacrificing its ability to attain full RF2/Level 3+ performance. The patent-pending Thunder integrates Amorphoid, a chemically-treated, phase-change silicate core, making it 15% lighter than its nearest competitor, and more than 25% lighter than the average plate in its category, while offering complete protection from all common rifle threats.
Previous to the Thunder body armor plate, customers had a choice between a lightweight plate, but without the ability to stop M855 or analogous steel-core threats; or the heavy ceramic-faced or steel plates which would stop steel-core threats. There was no one-plate-fits-all available, until now. The 10-inch by 12-inch SAPI-style multicurve Thunder plate offers the best of both worlds; protection from steel-core threats in a lightweight platform comparable to the polyethylene plates. The full-sized Thunder strike-face offers full edge-to-edge Amorphoid coverage.
“We believe that the design and development of an armor plate is a problem defined by its specification – in this case RF2 – to which there must be a theoretically optimal solution. Given the current state of materials science, the Thunder plate is the optimal solution in its category – and it will eventually come to define the upper-bound of performance in that category. Its development required novel materials and methods, of which we’re very proud,” commented Jake Ganor, CEO of Adept Armor.

GENESEO, ILL. (07/18/23) – New from Springfield Armory® is the Model 2020 Redline, a lightweight and easy to maneuver bolt-action rifle. Embracing attributes of the classic scout rifle, the new Model 2020 Redline takes the concept into the 21st century with the use of modern materials and cutting-edge design. The result is a lightweight and compact rifle ready for hunts where every ounce counts.
Designed to deliver a lightweight, custom-grade hunting rifle, the Model 2020 Redline is available chambered in .308 or 6.5 Creedmoor. Offered with a choice of 16” or 20” carbon fiber-jacketed barrels, the threaded muzzle as well as the compact dimensions of the rifle — with an overall length as short as 36.5” — make the Redline an ideal host for a suppressor on your next backcountry hunt.
Further enhancing the capabilities and light weight of the Redline is the use of a unique skeletonized Grayboe Trekker stock, combining light weight with unyielding performance. With an overall weight of just 28 ounces, the stock features an adjustable length of pull system — featuring .25” adjustment increments, with a range of 13.25” to 14.25” and adjustable up to 16” with additional spacers — for customizing it for a perfect fit. In addition, the stock features three sling studs — one in the rear and two in the front — as well as lightening cuts in both the forend and the radically relieved buttstock.
Also of note is the fact the stock features an integral bubble level/thumb rest located at the rear of the action. Rather than being positioned atop the scope, the location of the bubble level in the stock ensures you wring out maximum downrange performance from the rifle without having to break your cheekweld or lose your sight line through your optic.
The heart of the Redline is the Model 2020 action, precision manufactured from premium materials. It features dual locking lugs on a fluted bolt that runs smoothly down EDM raceways for perfect, repeatable engagement. In addition, an optimized extraction cam provides robust, reliable operation in any condition.
The free-floated BSF barrel of the Model 2020 Redline is jacketed in a roll-wrapped carbon fiber sleeve and loaded under tension. This means 95 percent of the carbon fiber sleeve doesn’t contact the barrel. In addition, fluting under the sleeve reduces weight and increases surface cooling area. Topping off the threaded muzzle is an SA Radial Brake to help minimize muzzle rise and ensure fast follow-up shots. A thread protector is also included.
The Redline features a TriggerTech® trigger with a low-profile, non-snag safety. Employing the company’s Frictionless Release Technology™, it’s adjustable from 2.5 – 5 lbs. with a patented, free-floating roller. And the high-quality trigger helps coax the best possible accuracy out of the rifle, which Springfield Armory guarantees with a rock-solid .75 MOA accuracy guarantee — for a three-shot group at 100 yards with quality match-grade factory ammunition, in the hands of a skilled shooter.

GALVESTON, Texas – NSSF®, The Firearm Industry Trade Association, and Galveston Mayor Craig Brown, along with City Councilmembers Marie Robb and Sharon Lewis, Galveston Police Chief Doug Balli, representatives from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, Galveston Parks and Recreation and the local hunting and shooting sports community gathered today to launch a citywide firearm safety initiative, “Project ChildSafe Galveston.”
The press conference was followed by two gun lock distribution events where Galveston residents could pick up free Project ChildSafe® gun locks and safety kits at local community centers, no questions asked.
“Educating gun owners on secure storage does more than prevent tragic accidents,” Mayor Brown said. “It helps prevent firearms from being stolen and used in crimes, and as result, it makes our whole community safer.”
NSSF is providing thousands of firearm safety kits that include a gun lock and safety brochure to local organizations and Galveston residents through its Project ChildSafe initiative, which focuses on helping prevent firearm accidents, thefts and misuse, and emphasizes the importance of secure firearm storage to suicide prevention efforts. Other local partners include:
“We’re doing this because we know secure gun storage works – firearm accidents are preventable,” said Joe Bartozzi, NSSF’s President and CEO. “Fatal firearm accidents are at historic lows, and that’s a trend we want to see continue in the right direction. That starts with a community-shared responsibility and emphasis on firearm safety. We’re grateful to Mayor Brown along with Galveston’s city leaders and all our local partners for taking on this initiative.”
In addition to the free gun locks, NSSF will support the initiative by providing law enforcement agencies and other partners with free resources on gun safety in the home and in vehicles, an overview of safe storage options such as lock boxes and safes, tips for safe handling of firearms, hunting safety and other topics. These efforts will be complemented by billboards and social media ads urging residents to be responsible gun owners, and directing them to local partners, including the Galveston PD, for resources.
“The vast majority of gun crimes involve stolen firearms, so by properly securing firearms you’re not only protecting yourself and your family, you’re protecting your neighbors and making our community safer,” said Galveston Police Chief Doug Balli.
The PD will have free locks available upon request, and free locks will also be available at the McGuire-Dent Recreation Center at 2222 28th Street, and the Wright Cuney Recreation Center at 718 41st Street while supplies last.

New MQ-9B SkyGuardian®/SeaGuardian® Models Add More Than 4,000 Hours
SAN DIEGO – 14 July 2023 – General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA‑ASI) today announced that its family of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS), which includes the Predator®, Reaper, Gray Eagle, Avenger®, and MQ-9B SkyGuardian®/SeaGuardian® lines, has surpassed eight million flight hours. GA-ASI aircraft have completed 566,000 total missions in nearly 40 countries around the world.
Adding to the total are 13 MQ-9B SkyGuardian/SeaGuardian UAS that have flown more than 4,000 flight hours, including the new Protector RG Mk1 being delivered to the United Kingdom’s Royal Air Force. The first three Protectors are currently undergoing Integrated Test, Evaluation, and Acceptance trials. In addition, MQ-9Bs are being operated by the Japan Coast Guard (JCG) and Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force (JMSDF), as well as supporting various U.S. Navy exercises.
“GA-ASI continues to be a leader in developing reliable, cost-efficient, and sustainable unmanned aircraft systems that perform advanced operations for our customers around the world,” said GA-ASI CEO Linden P. Blue. “Eight million flight hours is another achievement on our list of historic firsts, which demonstrates our relentless commitment to quality.”
The exact aircraft and customer that achieved the milestone is unknown, as it’s estimated that more than 50 Predator-class Medium-Altitude, Long-Endurance (MALE) RPA are airborne worldwide every moment of every day.
GA-ASI aircraft average 40,000 hours per month, supporting programs with the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Army, U.S. Marine Corps, NASA, the Italian Air Force, the UK Royal Air Force, the French Air Force, the United Arab Emirates Armed Forces, the Spanish Air Force, the Royal Netherlands Air Force, the Indian Navy, the Polish Air Force, JCG, JMSDF, and others, with more customers coming online soon. Missions include helping protect ground units on the battlefield, supporting first responders in the wake of natural disasters, and providing critical ISR around the world. These aircraft systems continue to maintain some of the highest mission-capable rates in the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Army aircraft inventories.
GA-ASI has produced more than 1,000 aircraft and nearly 500 Ground Control Stations (GCS) in more than three decades of business. In addition to UAS and GCS, GA-ASI produces Processing, Exploitation, and Dissemination (PED) systems, as well as sensor payloads that deliver radar and video imagery, detect moving targets on the ground and over water, and provide Signals Intelligence (SIGINT) on signals of interest. Tactical Games Return to Iowa, Hosted by Brownells
GRINNELL, Iowa (July 14, 2023) – The Tactical Games returns to Iowa, with 180 competitors scheduled to compete at the Big Springs Range in Searsboro, Iowa, July 15 and 16.
Founded in 2018, the Tactical Games combines shooting with active physical fitness — as competitors perform physical challenges including runs, obstacle courses and weightlifting before engaging targets at various distances with rifles and pistols — all under time.
Competitors are organized into different divisions based on experience, age, sex and skill level.
Hosted by Brownells, the July 2023 games marks the second time the Tactical Games has operated a competition in the Hawkeye State, less than a year after the inaugural Iowa edition of the games back in October 2022.
“We are very happy to be part of the Tactical Games again,” said Brownells CEO Pete Brownell. “The Tactical Games challenges athletes to be excellent in many different activities from running and lifting, to climbing and shooting.
