GA-ASI and Lockheed Martin Developing Net-Enabled Weapons Capability for MQ-9B SeaGuardian(r)

GA-ASI AND LOCKHEED MARTIN DEVELOPING NET-ENABLED WEAPONS CAPABILITY FOR MQ-9B SEAGUARDIAN®

SAN DIEGO – 27 June 2024 – General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) and Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) are collaborating to provide Net-Enabled Weapons (NEW) capability for GA-ASI’s MQ-9B SeaGuardian® Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS). The addition of NEW capability for SeaGuardian will bolster the Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance and Targeting (ISR&T) capability for the aircraft.

The NEW technology provides expanded sensor targeting applications for the precision targeting of long-range weapons. SeaGuardian’s demonstrated persistence coupled with its vast array of precision targeting sensors enables more efficient kill chains, especially in contested environments. GA-ASI’s MQ-9B SeaGuardian® UAS, and SeaVue multi-role radar from Raytheon, an RTX business, will effectively leverage Lockheed Martin’s extensive NEW expertise to further refine targeting capabilities for future theater deployments. Initial testing was completed on June 5, 2024, with F/A-18s on the U.S. Navy’s W-289 test range in Southern California.

GA-ASI and Lockheed Martin have been developing Link 16 messages to communicate with weapons inflight using the SeaGuardian Systems Integration Lab (SIL) in preparation for overwater range test flight.

“This is a very important system attribute for SeaGuardian to enable naval long-range targeting CONOPS against high-end threats at much less risk to manned platforms,” said GA-ASI President David R. Alexander. “We appreciate Lockheed Martin’s support in helping us prove out the NEW technology, which is an important component of our ISR&T capability.”

MQ-9B SeaGuardian is a medium-altitude, long-endurance UAS. Its multi-domain capabilities allow it to flex from mission to mission. SeaGuardian has been used by the U.S. in several recent demonstrations, including Northern Edge, Integrated Battle Problem, and Group Sail.

IDV wins 4 research and development projects within the EDF program

IDV has been awarded 4 research and development projects within the European Defense Fund (EDF) financed by EU for a total amount of more than €95 million by 2027. For the first time in its history, IDV played a leading role in one of the submitted research and development projects, coordinating the entire project called ARCHYTAS: a consortium of 22 public and private partners from 11 EEA countries that will receive €19.9 million to investigate non-conventional Artificial Intelligence (AI) accelerators for defense applications, using novel technologies at the device and package level.

The EDF (European Defense Fund) is a key instrument of the European Commission for promoting cooperation in the defense sector through competitive and collaborative projects.

The approved projects will allow IDV to keep investing in a European partnership framework, together with outstanding companies and research institutes, accelerating the development of technologies aimed at improving operational efficiency and protecting soldiers by reducing their presence in critical contexts such as reconnaissance, force support, last-mile refuelling, medical support, and CBRN response.

A First Aid Success Story: How You Can Help

Good afternoon, TacMed community!
We received a moving story from a family whose lives were changed by the quick thinking and proper use of the SOF Tourniquet. On May 4th, their daughter Tiffany was involved in a severe side-by-side accident, where she suffered traumatic injuries to her right hand and artery. Thanks to the quick actions of a couple proactive friends who were carrying a tourniquet, her life was saved.
She’s undergone 10 surgeries so far and faces more in the coming years. Despite these challenges, Tiffany and her family are committed to raising awareness about the importance of proper first aid training and carrying medical equipment. Accidents like these can hit close to home, which is why we can’t emphasize enough the importance of being prepared.
In her honor, a golf tournament in Meridian, Idaho will be held on June 30th to help with medical expenses and promote first aid education. We encourage everyone to support this cause. If you can’t join the event, please consider donating to their GoFundMe to support this brave young woman and her mission to save lives.

Grand Island, NE (June 25, 2024) – Hornady engineered the Lock-N-Load® Iron Press® to be the heaviest, most rigid press in its class. This single-stage unit, powered with a spring-assisted 1-1/8-inch solid steel ram, is perfect for anyone demanding precision and repeatability from their reloading press.

This 28-pound workhorse press is manufactured with exceptionally tight tolerances and a smooth operating system designed to deliver consistent precision year after year. The Iron Press features Hornady’s patented Lock-N-Load® Bushing System, which ensures dies and bushings are securely locked in place with a simple twist that engages six locking lugs.

Swapping out is straightforward when reloaders need to change to another cartridge size. Simply twist the die counterclockwise, remove it and insert your next preset Lock-N-Load® die and bushing. Dies locked in their Lock-N-Load® bushings remain as they are set, in perfect alignment and ready for their turn in the press.

The unit also features a patented shell holder platform that lets the operator de-prime a case, remove the case to chamfer or deburr, and then quickly replace and prime. The Iron Press’s accessory deck enables quick access to trays for bullets or cases and storage for chamfer and deburr tools, case neck brushes, primer pocket cleaners, and more.

The gravity-fed Automatic Priming System, which is sold separately or as part of the kit, blurs the lines between progressive and single stage reloading by allowing more processes to happen simultaneously. The machine upgrade includes the automatic priming system, large and small primer tubes, large and small primer pick-up tubes, primer housing tubes, primer catch trays and a small parts bag.

Members of U.S. Congress Visit RAFAEL’s Facility in the Galilee, Highlighting U.S.-Israel Defense Cooperation

Haifa, Israel – [June 24, 2024] – Rafael was honored to welcome a bipartisan delegation of members of U.S. Congress to its facility in northern Israel. This visit, facilitated by the American Israel Education Foundation (AIEF), underscores the enduring partnership between the United States and Israel and highlights Rafael’s commitment to advancing shared security goals.

The delegation toured RAFAEL’s state-of-the-art facility in the Galilee, where they received comprehensive briefings on Rafael’s cutting-edge laser-based defense systems and other defense systems like Iron Dome and David’s Sling. These systems are essential in defending Israel’s home front against the growing threats from Hamas, Hezbollah and other adversaries in the region. The members of Congress were also briefed on the various systems that have been developed to save American lives and safeguard American assets.

Rafael extends its gratitude to its American friends and allies for their steadfast commitment. Thanks to the bipartisan support of the U.S. Congress, Rafael continues to bolster the development, production, and technological sharing of Rafael’s defense systems. This visit reinforces our collective commitment to enhancing defense collaboration and technological innovation.
