One quadrant of the industry, waterfowling, has long been viewed as best left to serious hunters – you know, the guys who are dedicated to expansive decoy spreads, are able to handle hot and heavy loads and know how to operate a heftier shotgun.

I have plenty of students, female students, that love to drop ducks and get after geese. They are absolutely serious hunters and have no problem with the harsh conditions often encountered in a blind or boat. The problem has been that the industry has not opened up the options in gear for the female waterfowler. At least not until Syren built the XLR5 Waterfowler.

Shotgun Scars and How To Avoid Getting Them

“Oh, my gosh,” I think to myself. “I have to get this poor woman to settle down. What in the world happened to her that she is on the verge of tears, almost ready to pass out?”

This is unfortunately a more common occurrence than you think. A new shooter gets in the box, excited to either try a new hobby sport or maybe prep for a corporate outing or even a hunt. The moment she picks the gun up, her muscles start quivering, her eyes become almost frantic and often, the color in her face will flush as she fights through impending tears. She had no idea the scars were so deep. It’s been years since she last pulled the trigger on a shotgun.

Someone somewhere has caused an almost irreversible scar for this person. A scar that digs so deep, she can’t even think straight, much less take instruction. A scar that is pretty much causing a full-body paralysis once the shotgun is mounted to her shoulder. Warning, this is one of my soap box topics and with good reason.

Denison, TX. (November 2025) – Adept Armor, pioneers in next-gen protective solutions, is pleased to introduce the Archon Level IV Plate. Developed in response to European military requirements, the Archon represents the ideal balance between protection, weight, and comfort for today’s combat scenarios. Weighing in at just 5.75 lbs. and measuring 10 x 12” at a 1” thickness, the Archon delivers comprehensive protection from both the .30-06 M2 AP and modern intermediate-caliber AP threats while maintaining an exceptionally light weight. The Archon is a culmination of focused engineering, maximizing protection from the threats one is most likely to face, while keeping weight at the absolute minimum. The Marsh 20- and 28-gauge Over/Under shotguns are designed for the dedicated hunter who demands precision, durability, and rugged style in the marsh.

The Marsh Series features the same design as the Marsh Magnum, but in smaller gauges that deliver smooth handling, reduced recoil, and ultimate efficiency on ducks and teal. With 2 ¾” to 3” chambers, these shotguns provide versatility across hunting scenarios. Five extended choke tubes provide uniform patterns, delivering more pellets on a target.

Both shotguns are built to withstand the toughest conditions, with all-metal components coated in a durable FDE Brown Cerakote finish. The coating protects the shotgun from wear and tear, while the matte brown complements the Mossy Oak Shadow Grass Blades Camo pattern on the polymer stock and forend. It is a shotgun that blends into the marsh while standing out from other shotguns in the blind.

Hunters will appreciate the Marsh Series’ performance-driven features, including two 28” vent rib barrels with a 7mm flat rib for fast target acquisition and a dynamic swing. A single-select trigger allows hunters to customize the shooting experience by selecting the barrel and choke combo that works for incoming birds.

The Marsh Series’ automatic ejectors quickly and smoothly eject shells, allowing for faster reloads and follow-up shots. However, by changing one part, these shotguns convert from auto ejectors to simple, easy-to-control extractors.

Waterfowl hunting requires lots of gear, so the Marsh 20- and 28-gauge shotguns have built-in studs for sling attachment. Because hunters need a hands-free carry option.
