Tension screw adjustment allows for a custom fit to the pistol.

NSSF Files Amicus Brief in Support of Challenge to Hawaii’s Second Amendment Restrictions in Wolford v. Lopez
WASHINGTON, D.C.—NSSF®, the Firearm Industry Trade Association, filed an amicus brief with the U.S. Supreme Court in support of the petitioners in Wolford v. Lopez, a challenge to Hawaii’s law prohibiting the carry of handguns by licensed conceal carry permit holders on private property open to the public unless the owner gives express permission.
The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit upheld Hawaii’s law, concluding that while it implicates the plain text of the Second Amendment, it is nevertheless constitutional because it fits within the Nation’s historical tradition of firearm regulation. NSSF’s brief urges the Supreme Court to reject and overrule the Ninth Circuit’s decision.
“The Second Amendment grants law-abiding Americans the Constitutional right to bear arms and any such law that relegates that right to the backbench is unconstitutional and should be struck down,” NSSF Senior Vice President and General Counsel Lawrence G. Keane stated. “Hawaii’s law makes it nearly impossible for law-abiding citizens to carry a firearm for self-defense as they have a constitutional right to do. The Supreme Court should recognize Hawaii’s gamesmanship in trying to get around the Court’s prior decisions vindicating Second Amendment rights and strike the law down. No other Constitutional right is relegated as a second-class right and Hawaii’s law immediately turns unwitting Americans into criminals when exercising that right.”
In its brief, NSSF argues that Hawaii’s law “unquestionably restricts conduct covered by the plain text of the Second Amendment—namely, bearing arms.” Likewise, the law fails under the historical tradition test: “Hawaii’s law flips the tradition of limited and well-defined restrictions on the carry right on its head, creating a default rule that law-abiding citizens cannot carry firearms as they go about their daily lives unless private property owners express override that state-imposed preference.”
NSSF contends that Hawaii’s law is a blatant effort to frustrate the right to keep and bear arms, as it is both a historical and modern-day outlier.

WASHINGTON, D.C.—NSSF®, The Firearm Industry Trade Association, is pleased to announce two forthcoming additions to its executive leadership team. Effective January 1, 2026, Melissa Schilling will become Vice President, Exhibitions and Events, and John McNamara will serve as Vice President, Member Services.
Chris Dolnack, NSSF Senior Vice President and Chief Customer Officer, will be retiring April 2, 2026, after nearly three decades of service to the association.
“Both Melissa and John will be outstanding additions to NSSF’s executive team,” said NSSF President and CEO Joe Bartozzi. “Their commitment to excellence and to NSSF’s mission has and will continue to drive our organization forward.”
“I also extend an enormous amount of thanks to Chris Dolnack for his leadership and service to NSSF and our industry over the years,” Bartozzi said. “He has played an immense role in the success of NSSF and its signature event, the SHOT Show®, and we wish him all the best in his well-earned retirement.”
Schilling joined NSSF in 2003 and has been an integral part of the organization’s growth and achievements. She has advanced through many roles during her tenure, most recently serving as Managing Director of Exhibitions and Events, where she has led the planning and execution of the SHOT Show as well as NSSF’s many other events held throughout the year. She has also held roles in public relations and led NSSF’s recruitment and retention efforts.
McNamara joined NSSF in 2017, starting as Senior Director of Retailer Services and advancing to Managing Director of Member Services in 2021. He has played a key role in strengthening the association’s member relationships and engagement, developing partnerships, increasing revenue and aligning departmental goals with organizational strategy. Before joining NSSF, he served as Executive Vice President at firearm manufacturer PTR Industries.

As the Internet of Things (IoT) expands, powering numerous connected devices indoors has become increasingly challenging. Conventional solutions such as batteries or wired connections have clear limitations: batteries require frequent replacement or charging, and cables limit mobility and flexibility. These constraints have spurred interest in optical wireless power transmission (OWPT), which delivers energy through light, converting it back to electricity at the device using photovoltaic (PV) receivers.
Researchers at Science Tokyo have developed a new LED-based OWPT system that addresses the shortcomings of both batteries and conventional wireless power methods. Unlike laser-based systems, which pose safety risks and require strict regulatory compliance, LEDs provide inherently safe energy transmission, while remaining cost-effective and durable. The challenge, however, has been maintaining consistent power over distance and under changing lighting conditions.
The team’s solution integrates a dual-mode, adaptive design capable of operating seamlessly in both bright and dark indoor environments. A novel double-layer lens system, combining a tunable liquid lens with an imaging lens, automatically adjusts the light beam’s spot size to match the PV receiver’s distance and dimensions, optimizing energy transfer. A motorized reflector, controllable in both horizontal and vertical axes, aligns the beam precisely, guided by a depth camera with RGB and infrared sensors. This setup allows the system to detect the position of PV receivers and track the beam’s irradiation spot, ensuring accurate delivery.
Artificial intelligence enhances the system’s efficiency. A convolutional neural network based on the Single Shot MultiBox Detector algorithm processes input from the sensors, enabling the system to sequentially power multiple devices of varying sizes without interruption. Retroreflective sheets surrounding the PV receivers provide clear outlines in both light and dark conditions, further improving targeting accuracy.
According to TechXplore, the resulting system can transmit power stably up to five meters, automatically switching between devices and adapting to environmental changes. Beyond commercial IoT applications such as smart factories and connected homes, this technology could support defense and security operations by enabling safe, wireless power delivery to sensors, communications nodes, and autonomous devices in indoor facilities where wired infrastructure is impractical or vulnerable.
By combining adaptive optics, AI-based detection, and LED-based power transmission, this auto-OWPT platform represents a practical step toward scalable, safe, and flexible indoor energy solutions for the growing IoT ecosystem.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — NSSF®, The Firearm Industry Trade Association, is encouraged by President Donald Trump’s nomination of Robert Cekada to be the Director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and looks forward to his testimony before the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee during his confirmation hearing. NSSF is heartened that President Trump is nominating a permanent director, which will provide strong leadership to the men and women of the ATF and the firearm industry ATF regulates with fair and impartial regulatory guidance.
“Deputy Director Cekada has the experience, wisdom and confidence of his colleagues to effectively lead the men and women of the ATF,” said Lawrence G. Keane, NSSF Senior Vice President and General Counsel. “Deputy Director Cekada respects the Second Amendment and understands that the firearm industry is not the ‘enemy’ but a valuable partner that assists ATF in its core mission of combatting violent crime. Firearm retailers are on the front lines helping to prevent the criminal acquisition of firearms. They are a vital source of information to ATF special agents on illegal straw purchasing of firearms.”
Keane added, “We look forward to hearing Deputy Director Cekada’s testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee at his confirmation hearing.”
Cekada currently serves as ATF’s Deputy Director and brings over 30 years of law enforcement experience, including 20 years in various roles within ATF from special agent to Special Agent-in-Charge of Field Division in Baltimore and Miami to leadership positions at ATF’s headquarters. Prior to his service with ATF, Deputy Director Cekada served with the New York Police Department, focusing on anti-gang crime and the City of Plantation Police Department in Broward County, Florida, where he served with the Patrol Division and Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team.
As a Special Agent-in-Charge, Deputy Director Cekada has been on the ground with the firearm industry to promote public awareness to stop these crimes from occurring and has a career history of working with the firearm industry to ensure law-abiding citizens can exercise their Second Amendment rights.
NSSF has partnered with the ATF for over 25 years on the Don’t Lie for the Other GuyTM program, to warn the public that illegally straw-purchasing firearms for someone who cannot legally purchase their own firearm, or does not want to be associated with the sale of a firearm, is a serious federal crime that carries a penalty up to 15 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. NSSF also partners with ATF in another program called Operation Secure Store®, which helps improve security at firearm retailers to deter or prevent thefts and burglaries of those firearm retailers. As part of that program, NSSF matches ATF reward offers up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of suspects of those crimes.
