Call for Abstracts | 2025 Undersea Warfare Spring Conference

The National Defense Industrial Association’s (NDIA) Undersea Warfare Division invites authors of high-quality professional abstracts to submit their work for technical presentation at the 2025 Undersea Warfare Spring Conference. This year’s Spring Conference will now be conducted at FVEY classified level with AUKUS government and industry participation, as both speakers and attendees, in the plenary and technical sessions. We will be able to accommodate briefs that are not releasable to AUKUS.

Material presented by U.S. industry in the presence of foreign nationals is considered an export and is subject to International Trafficking in Arms Regulations (ITAR). Speakers will be required to submit an ITAR exemption request to the Navy International Programs Office (NIPO). Once NIPO approves the ITAR exemption request, speakers will need to self-certify (2 – 4 weeks prior to the event). Additionally, all U.S. presentations that will be presented to REL UK, REL AUS must be reviewed and approved by the Foreign Disclosure Officer (FDO) prior to the conference. The deadline for all briefing material to be submitted to NDIA is February 25 at 8:00 am ET to allow time for FDO review.

Briefs submitted by UK or AUS government or industry speakers must follow their national requirements.

Each UK | AUS attendee will need to submit a Foreign Visit Request (FVR) via their embassy in the United States to pass their clearance to the host via the process on the website. FVRs should be submitted no later than February 3.

This year’s theme is “Enabling Joint and Combined Force Anti-Submarine Warfare/Mine Warfare/Subsea and Seabed Warfare Operations in Contested Areas.”

Each abstract should fit into one of the following Technical Sessions:

Undersea Sensors: New or repurposed Anti-Submarine Warfare/Mine Warfare/Subsea and Seabed Warfare undersea sensors that enable operations in contested areas
Combat System/C4I: Combat system or C4I improvements that enhance the capability to do high-end ASW by January 2027
Mine Warfare: Closing capability gaps to facilitate mine warfare in a non-permissive environment
Aviation: Multi-platform, coordinated anti-submarine warfare operations and employment of enabling interoperable sensors, weapons, & processing technologies
Undersea Vehicles: Lower cost, more flexible, and smarter vehicles to address missions with mass and interoperability

For each U.S. industry speaker, the following information should be included at the top of your abstract to facilitate inclusion in ITAR exemption requests:

Cimarron Firearms continues to pay tribute and recall the famous exploits of the heroes who wore the iconic five-pointed star badge of the Texas Rangers with the new Cimarron lever action Nueces™ ’73 45 LC rifle commemorating Confederate officer and Texas Ranger, Leander H. McNelly.

Fredericksburg, Texas (Dec. 2024) – Cimarron Firearms, the premier name in authentic Old West firearm replicas, pays its respects to another colorful hero of the storied Texas Rangers. The new Nueces™ ’73 Rifle pays tribute to Captain Leander H. McNelly.

Born in what is now West Virginia, his family moved to Texas when he was a consumptive child with the hopes the climate would help his health. McNelly thrived on his family’s farm, and in 1861 when the Civil War broke out, he joined up, getting his commission in 1863. McNelly served the length of the war, and his unit was one of the last to disband in 1865.

In 1870, then Governor Edmond Davis organized the Texas State Police, of which, McNelly was named one of the four captains. The short-lived law enforcement unit was abolished in 1873 after allegations of embezzlement, harassing voters, and killing a few prisoners. Then, the very next year, the new governor, Richard Coke created two branches within the Texas Rangers, a Frontier Battalion and the “Special Force.” McNelly commanded the Special Force, a group of law enforcement financed by the area cattle ranchers to protect the land and cattle. McNelly was assigned the embattled Nueces Strip, a large swath of land on the Rio Grande frontier. McNelly handpicked his men and the group became known as “Little McNelly” for their loyalty to their commander. McNelly brought his form of justice to the area, although he was known to disobey his superiors, and several times entered Mexico trailing the bandits, and successfully returning stolen cattle.

NSSF Applauds Congress for Passing EXPLORE Act

WASHINGTON, D.C. — NSSF®, The Firearm Industry Trade Association, applauds Congress for bipartisan passage of H.R. 6492, the Expanding Public Lands Outdoor Recreation Experiences (EXPLORE) Act. The legislation includes the NSSF-priority Range Access Act, which requires the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the U.S. Forest Service (USFS), after consultation with local stakeholders, to build recreational shooting ranges in each BLM district and National Forest in areas where opportunities don’t already exist. These opportunities would allow for more access to public shooting ranges for target practice, a place to sight in rifles before hunting season and venues for in-person hunter safety courses, all without competing against private ranges that offer the same opportunities.

The legislation is now headed to President Joe Biden for signature.

“We are incredibly grateful that Congress recognized the public safety and recreational benefits of this legislation,” said Lawrence G. Keane, NSSF Senior Vice President and General Counsel. “This is a tremendous win for America’s gun owners and recreational target shooters and demonstrates what can be achieved when Congress works together for commonsense legislation that will improve access to safe firing ranges available to the public.”

The immediate benefit of this legislation is providing increased public access to safe recreational shooting ranges, especially in rural areas. Background checks for firearm sales saw a record of 21 million in 2020 and another 18.5 million in 2021, 16.4 million in 2022 and 15.8 million in 2023. Those gun owners, many of whom are first-timers, are in need of safe and modern ranges to practice marksmanship skills.

This legislation has the added benefit of supporting wildlife conservation and improving recreational shooting access. Recreational shooting is tied to approximately 85 percent of the Pittman-Robertson excise taxes currently being paid by firearm and ammunition manufacturers, making it a major driving contributor to wildlife conservation. Since the Pittman-Robertson excise tax was enacted in 1937, firearm and ammunition makers have paid $27.38 billion in inflation-adjusted dollars for conservation and the construction and improvement of public recreational shooting ranges.

NSSF is especially thankful to U.S. Sens. Joe Manchin (D-W.V.), John Barrasso (R-Wyo.), Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.), Speaker of the House of Representatives Mike Johnson (R-La.) and U.S. Reps. Steve Scalise (R-La.), Bruce Westerman (R-Ark.) and Blake Moore (R-Utah) for their leadership in guiding this vitally important legislation to passage.

Hornady Security® Fireproof Keypad Safe

Grand Island, NE (December 18, 2024) – The Hornady Security® line of keypad safes provides quick and secure firearm access. The Fireproof Keypad Safe is a user-friendly safe to secure one or two handguns, ammo, and valuables when space is limited.

It is constructed from heavy-duty 16-gauge steel for the body and thicker 8-gauge for the door. The fireproof capabilities are best in class, capable of withstanding fires reaching temperatures of 1400°F for 30 minutes.

Four 1-inch diameter locking lugs safely secure the contents of the safe. The contents are accessible by a programmable touch keypad featuring illuminated keys. An LED warning light will indicate when the keypad battery is running low. If the keypad fails, a discrete keyhole provides additional access to the safe. Once opened, a door light illuminates the safe’s contents in low-light conditions.

Hornady’s Fireproof Keypad Safe takes protecting your belongings the extra step. Protective carpet covers the removable shelf and the safe’s interior to prevent scratches and unwanted damage. In addition, a powder coat finish protects the safe’s steel for added durability. The final line of security includes a set of concrete anchors to secure the safe. The Hornady Fireproof Keypad Safe is ideal for easy and secure firearm storage, even in the event of a fire.

QMAG-53

The QMAG-53 offers 80% increased magazine capacity, with a similar form factor to standard magazines but shorter. Warfighters can now to carry 210 round loadouts in 4 magazines instead of 7, reduce reloads by 50%, reduce loadout weight by 8%, and carry their QMAG’s in any standard double mag pouch. The QMAG is more reliable because of its single follower design and reduced wall friction, both designed to reliably fire high volumes of full auto fire with high pressure dirty silencers. The QMAG’s internal length is also longer to guarantee reliable feeding of long match grade ammunition used by competitors. The QMAG is highly durable, passing all military drop tests, the mags can be fully loaded for years without fatiguing the springs and it is easy to load the top rounds unlike drum mags.

Every rifle also comes with a Magwell adapter reliably use standard 30 round magazines.

Handguard

Designed with suppressor builds in mind, the 13.7-inch MLOK compatible handguard accommodates a variety of quick-attach suppressor mounts. Chamfered edges and a Type III Hardcoat anodized finish provide a smooth, ergonomic feel while maintaining durability. The handguard is crafted from lightweight yet durable 6061-T6 aircraft-grade aluminum, striking the perfect balance between strength and weight reduction. The Handguard attaches to the receiver using a two-piece wedge block mechanism, ensuring a rock-solid attachment with even pressure around the barrel nut.

Reliability

Desert Tech’s Quattro-15 is a direct impingement rifle that was engineered and crafted with premium components to deliver unrivaled performance in any condition. The full auto rated dual ejector Bolt Carrier Group enhances reliability and maintains consistent ejection patterns. All BCGs are Chrome lined with a phosphate coating to provide an added layer of protection. The Quattro-15 Rifle uses all Mil-Spec parts to ensure flawless operation under the most demanding circumstances.

Match Barrel

The Quattro-15 features a 16-inch mid-gas stainless steel barrel with a 223 Wylde chamber, offering compatibility with both .223 Remington and 5.56 NATO rounds. Its nitride finish enhances durability and corrosion resistance, while the mid-length gas system reduces recoil for faster follow-up shots. This barrel is built to meet the needs of professionals and serious marksmen.

Match Trigger

Equipped with a single-stage match trigger, the Quattro-15 provides a crisp, clean break with minimal overtravel. This ensures exceptional accuracy and control, whether you’re engaging targets in competition or in the field. The trigger’s nickel Teflon treatment further enhances smoothness and durability, giving you confidence in every shot.

Ambidextrous

The Quattro-15 Rifle features fully ambidextrous controls, making it equally accessible for both left- and right-handed operators. From the Radian Raptor LT charging handle to the ambidextrous 45/90 Radian Talon safety, magazine release, and bolt release, every component has been engineered for ease of use.
