Last Call: Still Time to Participate in Gun Storage Check Week
WASHINGTON, D.C. — NSSF®, The Firearm Industry Trade Association, is calling on gun owners, retailers, range operators and other firearm industry-related companies to participate in the final days of Gun Storage Check Week®. This national firearm safety awareness campaign kicked off Monday, June 1 and will conclude Sunday, June 7.
The goal of Gun Storage Check Week, observed at the start of National Safety Month, is to help prevent firearm accidents, especially those involving children, suicides and thefts. Throughout this week, the message of “Make Sure It’s Secure®” has been promoted to millions of gun owners to help prevent unwanted access to firearms.
“Whether you’re a gun owner or professional in the firearm industry, there are still ways to get involved and amplify Gun Storage Check Week’s safety message to friends, family and loved ones,” said Joe Bartozzi, NSSF President and CEO. “As a gun owner, first and foremost, take a moment and evaluate your firearm storage practices. This is critical for preventing unauthorized access to firearms when not in use.”
Ways to Get Involved
Those interested in furthering the “Make Sure It’s Secure” message have several options available to get involved.
-
Marketers: An expansive promotional toolkit — freely available — contains logos, shareable graphics, digital ads, audio public service announcements and more. These assets can be shared on social media, printed for in-store events and used in e-newsletters to advance awareness of this important safety message.
-
Ranges & Retailers: In addition to utilizing assets in the promotional toolkit listed above, it’s not too late to host in-store events — such as a safety-focused sale or seminar to educate customers on the wide variety of secure storage options available to suit any need, lifestyle or budget. It’s always a good time to talk about safety with customers, and Gun Storage Check Week and National Safety Month provide natural tie-ins for conversations at the counter.
-
Gun Owners: Talking with friends and family about firearm safety and secure storage practices to prevent accidents, suicides and theft is paramount. To further engage with Gun Storage Check Week, visit GunStorageCheck.org and enter the Gun Storage Check Week Sweepstakes to win a B.O.S. Lock Fusion — a firearm safety device that mounts to a handgun’s accessory rail, combining a biometric slide lock with an integrated tactical light and green laser. Those who enter the sweepstakes will have an opportunity to improve their chances of winning by earning bonus entries after watching up to two firearm safety videos. The Sweepstakes ends June 7.
Explore Safety Resources
GunStorageCheck.org has resources available to help gun owners decide which locked storage device best meets their safety and accessibility needs.
Secure gun storage devices include:

-
Lock boxes: a storage solution for guns kept for home security and in vehicles.

Full-size gun safes and cabinets: for owners with multiple firearms to protect, including against fire and theft.
An Ongoing Conversation
As Gun Storage Check Week draws to a close, the conversation surrounding firearm safety and secure storage is a regular routine for gun owners. These practices prevent access by unsupervised children, individuals with suicidal thoughts and others who shouldn’t have access to firearms.
Gun Storage Check Week will return for its second annual observance, Sept. 1–7, during National Suicide Prevention Month.
