A pistol red dot speeds up target acquisition and lets you shoot with both eyes open. Once you run one, going back to irons feels slow.
Before you drop money on an optic, you need to answer one question: what footprint does your slide cut accept? Get that wrong and the optic will not bolt up. Below is the quick version.
FOOTPRINTS 101
Not sure what your slide is cut for? C&H makes adapter plates that bridge most pistols to most footprints.
THE CO-WITNESS QUESTION
Co-witness means your iron sights line up through the optic window so you have a backup if the dot ever goes dark. Two flavors:
Absolute co-witnessputs the irons right on top of the dot. Pull the gun up and both are stacked.
Lower 1/3 co-witnessputs the irons in the bottom third of the window. The dot sits above them, so your sight picture stays cleaner, and the irons are still right there if you need them.
Most pistol setups need taller suppressor-height iron sights to co-witness with a red dot. C&H sells suppressor-height back-up irons that pair with the optic lineup.
