REFORMING DEFENSE ACQUISITIONS TO PROMOTE GLOBAL SECURITY
SAN DIEGO – 27 January 2025 – For more than 30 years, General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) has invented, innovated and delivered disruptive new defense technologies in support of the United States and its allies, redefining the future of global security in the process. This position as the world leader in unmanned aerial systems gives us unique insights into the policy and regulatory challenges America faces when adopting revolutionary new capabilities and technologies.
We remain a vocal advocate for reform within the U.S. defense acquisition system and support recent calls for ideas and engagement on the topic. To further this dialogue, GA-ASI recently submitted a letter to the new Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) outlining several steps we believe to be instrumental in reformation efforts.

Dear Mr. Musk,
This is an exciting time in Washington, DC and across the nation. General Atomics Aeronautical Systems (GA-ASI), the leader in unmanned aerial systems, is eager to work with the DOGE on the important task of reforming defense acquisition to enhance its efficiency and contribution to national security. GA-ASI, an industry upstart and disruptor, led the world in the design and development of unmanned aerial vehicles, and touched off a revolution in military affairs. All of this was accomplished despite significant friction and resistance from the establishment. We continue to feel this resistance as we seek to break new ground with technologies that will ensure the U.S. and allied forces maintain a decisive operational edge in an increasingly dangerous world.
We propose to apply our decades of experience with defense acquisition to address the policies, procedures, and organizational oddities that hinder timely delivery of critical capabilities to warfighters. Within GA-ASI’s own export market, poor US Government (USG) policy and sluggish bureaucratic decision-making has opened the door for competitors like China, Turkey, and Israel to win important international customers. Sales lost to these competitors while we waited on some USG action means less funding available for re-investment into R&D and modernized manufacturing infrastructure.
Bold leadership is needed. Past reform efforts, often supervised by the very organizations most in need of reform, have failed. DOGE has the potential to drive meaningful change, and we are ready to help where we can.
As you search for efficiencies within the USG’s defense acquisition system, let me flag a few areas that deserve special attention. We can provide more detailed descriptions and recommendations upon request.

SHOT Show Celebrates Industry Strength and Momentum
LAS VEGAS — The 47th annual Shooting, Hunting and Outdoor Trade Show (SHOT Show®), owned and operated by NSSF® — The Firearm Industry Trade Association — concluded today, leaving attendees inspired by four days of energy, innovation and community. Featuring record-breaking exhibit space, a historic number of exhibitors, dynamic educational sessions and groundbreaking product launches, the 2025 SHOT Show reaffirmed its status as the industry’s largest and most impactful event of the year.
This year’s event welcomed more than 54,000 industry professionals to the expanded show floors at The Venetian Expo and Caesars Forum, spanning more than 14 miles of exhibits. Over 2,850 exhibitors represented every corner of the shooting, hunting and outdoor sectors, as well as the law enforcement and security industries.

The 4th Annual Governors’ Forum, attended by six governors, provided a platform to discuss the vital economic contributions of the firearm industry and strategies to attract firearm-related businesses to their states. The $8.9 billion industry supports more than 384,000 jobs nationwide, with a total economic impact of more than $90.1 billion. The Attorneys General Forum, now in its second year, drew strong attendance, facilitating critical discussions on regulatory issues and collaborative opportunities between state leaders and the firearm industry.
“The SHOT Show is fantastic, and each time that I come I just get amazed. It’s really, really important to stand up for what we believe in – the Second Amendment. It’s a big, big deal,” said Nebraska Gov. Jim Pillen.
Event Highlights
Education sessions for firearm retailers, shooting range operators, exporters and law enforcement professionals continue to be an important segment of the SHOT Show. With SHOT University™, the Law Enforcement Education Program (LEEP) – in partnership with American Cop – and Export Training Sessions offering in-person classes on compliance, marketing, training, exports, operations and much more.
The two-day SHOT Week Supplier Showcase, a key component of the SHOT Show, earned high praise for connecting suppliers with manufacturers and streamlining the supply chain. Over 600 OEM third-party suppliers met with manufacturers to address needs in materials, machinery, software, logistics and more.
The all-new SHOT Show eXtra Pavilion, designed to highlight emerging trends and provide first-time exhibitors with a long-awaited opportunity to join the show, stood out as a key addition to the event.
Similarly, the Archery Business Pavilion, introduced last year to meet growing interest, returned with even more exhibitors and opportunities, reinforcing the show’s commitment to showcasing innovation across all segments of the industry.
Honoring Industry’s Leaders
Three new industry leaders were inducted into the NSSF Hall of Fame for their contributions to NSSF, SHOT Show and the heritage of target shooting and hunting in America. The 2025 Hall of Fame inductees were Robert Delfay, Richard Hammett and Arthur Wheaton.
The prestigious Ken Sedlecky Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Jeff Reh, who served for four decades at Beretta USA Corp. as General Counsel and was a member of the NSSF Board of Governors for more than 20 years.
Commitment to Safety and Community
NSSF spotlighted its safety and outreach initiatives, including Project ChildSafe, Have a Brave Conversation and Gun Storage Check WeekTM.
A suicide prevention panel for firearm retailers showcased the firearm industry’s expanded efforts, highlighting the NSSF and American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) toolkit and new initiatives by AFSP, The Armory Project and The American Legion’s Be The One program for promoting secure firearm storage, recognizing warning signs and connecting individuals to care.
NSSF’s Gun Storage Check Week initiative, promoted during the show, encouraged firearm owners and industry partners to prioritize safe storage practices. Resources are available at GunStorageCheck.org and participants are encouraged to sign up to receive a reminder and join the effort on June 1-7 and September 1-7, 2025.
Off-Site SHOT Week Highlights
Many official show events cluster around the four days of the SHOT Show, creating SHOT Week. Among them was the NSSF/Honored American Veterans Afield (HAVA) Golf Classic in support of HAVA, a firearm industry-run charitable organization that helps the healing of disabled combat veterans through participation in hunting and the shooting sports.
Also, Industry Day at the RangeTM on the day before the SHOT Show gives invited media members and buyers a truly exclusive opportunity to preview and test the latest guns, gear and gadgets before anyone else in the industry. This year featured over 135 exhibitors and over 2,350 media and buyers, a record-high attendance.

Las Vegas, NV (January 22, 2025) -The CZ P-10 C OR is now available in the highly sought-after FDE (Flat Dark Earth) color, combining tactical style with top-tier performance. This optics-ready pistol maintains the superior ergonomics, reliability, and precision the P-10 series is known for, now enhanced with a rugged and versatile finish perfect for any environment.
The P-10 C has been CZ’s flagship defensive pistol for nearly a decade. Around the world, people trust their lives to this striker-fired pistol. CZ chose Flat Dark Earth as the new finish color for its ability to blend seamlessly with other tactical gear, while the tough nitride finish on the slide and barrel protects the pistol in any environment.
The P-10 C OR FDE’s striking new look does not change its fundamental features. It sports a 4-inch barrel that delivers excellent ballistic performance and handles smoothly. A mild palm swell, deep beavertail, and three interchangeable backstraps create a custom fit for different-sized hands. Its overall dimensions fit an array of aftermarket holsters.
Since self-defense situations can arise at times, the pistol comes equipped with iron sights with three luminescent dots for quick and intuitive aiming in low light. The P-10 C OR FDE also features a modified slide for attaching a red dot sight. The iron sights co-witness perfectly with a red dot sight mounted on the modified slide. And their chamfered edges ensure smooth handling.
The P-10 C OR FDE fiber-reinforced polymer frame withstands rigorous daily use. A generous trigger guard with a recessed cut allows gloved-hand shooting while allowing a high grip for faster shot recovery.
CZ designed the P-10 trigger for minimal creep and stacking with a clean 5.6-pound pull weight. The trigger delivers accurate shots and effortless follow-ups thanks to its short (0.16-inch) reset.
Safety is paramount, so CZ engineered the P-10 to be drop-safe. P-10 pistols include three safety features: trigger safety, trigger bar safety, and a firing pin block safety. Together, they safeguard the user if the pistol drops accidentally or in high-stress situations. Also, the P-10s have a loaded chamber indicator, allowing an external visual check to see if there’s a round in the chamber.

The COMPACT’s overall size is 7.5 (L) x 1.4 (W) x 5.4 (H) inches, and it retains a high-capacity magazine that holds 15 rounds. A 4-inch barrel trims its overall length, allowing it to glide quickly from a holster while still achieving good ballistic performance.
A forged 7075 aluminum frame shaves precious ounces off the total weight. At 30.7 ounces, it strikes the perfect balance between lightness and moderating recoil. This sub-2-pound pistol also makes a comfortable choice for all-day concealed carry.
The COMPACT includes user-friendly features, such as a spacious trigger guard, checkered grip, and dust cover with an accessory rail. Thanks to deep-cut front and rear cocking serrations, racking the slide from various positions is easy and intuitive.
Like other competition-ready pistols, the COMPACT’s trigger is tuned for speed and consistency. A 3.4-pound single-action trigger pull and 10.3-pound double-action pull combined with a short (0.14-in) reset allow fast follow-up shots. With its low-profile ambidextrous manual safety and interchangeable low-profile magazine release, Shadow 2 Compact accommodates left—and right-handed shooters.
At the rear of the slide, a built-in optics interface provides a low, stable platform for mounting a red dot sight. Shooters who prefer running the standard sights will appreciate the COMPACT’s high-visibility fiber optic front sight for aiming in all lighting conditions and its height-adjustable rear sight for precision.

Multi-Fuel Long Gun Light Delivers 1,000 Lumens and 22,000 Candela
EAGLEVILLE, PA, January 23, 2024 – Streamlight® Inc., a leading provider of high-performance lighting and weapon light/laser devices, introduced the TLR® RM 1 HL-X tactical weapon light for long guns, featuring up to 1,000 lumens and 22,000 candela for extreme brightness over long distances. The light gives users the choice of using either a cost-saving SL-B9® USB-C rechargeable battery pack for high-lumen operation or a CR123A lithium battery, and offers both push-button and remote switch operation. It securely attaches to any long gun with MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny rails.
“The TLR RM 1 HL-X provides long gun users with a super-bright, far-reaching beam using just a single rechargeable battery,” said Streamlight President and Chief Executive Officer Ray Sharrah. “Law enforcement, military personnel, shooting enthusiasts, and other users will appreciate its concentrated beam when clearing a room, searching an alley, or otherwise lighting their way when a long-distance beam is needed. The TLR RM 1 HL-X uses a high-power LED to deliver 1,000 lumens and 22,000 candela over a 297-meter beam distance when using a Streamlight SL-B9® Li-Ion 850mAh USB-C rechargeable battery pack, and 500 lumens and 11,000 candela over 210 meters with one 3-volt CR123A lithium battery inserted. Run times range from 30 minutes using the SL-B9 battery pack to 90 minutes using a disposable battery.
Packaged as a System, the light features independently operating push-button and remote pressure switches that provide momentary or constant on operation; the kit provides everything users need to mount to long guns. The light is also available in a Light Only model.
Fabricated from 6000 series machined aluminum with a black anodized finish, the TLR RM 1 HL-X has a switch housing made from impact- and chemical-resistant engineered polymer. It weighs 3.12 ounces using an SL-B9 battery, 3.02 ounces with a CR123A battery, and measures 3.64 inches long. It features an IPX7-rated design, making it waterproof to 1 meter for 30 minutes.
The TLR RM 1 HL-X has an MSRP ranging from $277.30 to $327.86, depending on the configuration and comes with Streamlight’s Limited Lifetime Warranty.
