GA-ASI ADVANCES UNMANNED SUB-HUNTING WITH TEST OF NEW AIR-DROPPED SENSORS

SAN DIEGO – 25 February 2025 – General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) continues to expand the role of unmanned aerial systems, demonstrating the first-ever Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) capability on an MQ-9B SeaGuardian^®. In a groundbreaking test from January 20-30, 2025, a company-operated MQ-9B SeaGuardian successfully deployed and tested anti-submarine sensors using multiple pre-production Sonobuoy Dispensing System (SDS) pods.

Having already proven its ability to track submerged targets, SeaGuardian took this capability further with GA-ASI’s newly designed SDS pods. These pods deployed multiple sonobuoys to conduct onboard thermal-depth and acoustic data processing. Using Directional Frequency Analysis and Recording (DIFAR), Directional Command Activated Sonobuoy System (DICASS), and Bathythermograph sonobuoys, SeaGuardian effectively detected, tracked, and analyzed underwater targets while collecting critical acoustic intelligence.

“This demonstration represents a major leap forward in unmanned capabilities and marks a major milestone in proving that an unmanned aircraft can perform end-to-end persistent ASW operations,” said GA-ASI President David R. Alexander. “The success of this testing paves the way for enhanced anti-submarine warfare capabilities on the MQ-9B SeaGuardian. We look forward to continued collaboration with the U.S. Navy as they explore innovative solutions for distributed maritime operations in the undersea domain.”

As part of the development process, GA-ASI successfully deployed multiple DIFAR and DICASS test sonobuoys, precisely correlating ejection speed with stress/strain data. This provided a high-fidelity launch model to refine future deployment capabilities.

Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division (NAWCAD) AIRWorks played a key role in supporting and overseeing the development, ensuring the system meets emerging warfighter needs. AIRWorks has partnered with GA-ASI in multiple ASW demonstrations, including the Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) exercise in July 2024.

With strong demand already in place from multiple customers, GA-ASI anticipates increasing interest in the MQ-9B SeaGuardian, given its high-end maritime capabilities at a significantly lower cost than traditional manned maritime platforms.

San Antonio, Texas (February 25, 2025) – Blaser is proud to introduce its latest masterpiece – the FBX sporting shotgun with fat body receiver. This newest version of the Blaser F3 line combines ultimate balance and stability for peak performance in competition.

The FBX is a symphony of optimally aligned components resulting in extraordinary balance and weight distribution for an effortless swing and fatigue-free shooting. This is aided by the fat body receiver with semi round contour which guarantees a stable center of gravity on the hinge axis for improved balance between the hands. Instead of attaching weights to the barrel, the FBX balancer system is integrated into the forend for easy, customizable weight distribution.

The FBX also features the proven Blaser IBS^®Anti-Double System and Ejection Ball System for reliable function and fast shot sequence. The receiver is a monocoque design with detachable trigger unit for easy maintenance. Felt recoil is noticeably reduced due to the large contact surface of the recoil pad and special stock geometry. The steeper pistol grip design with optimized palm swell increases control of the gun before and during shooting and allows the hand to absorb part of the recoil. The comb shape and drop allow for repeatable, precise mounting and reduced muzzle flip, making it easy on the cheek bone. Stock balance can also be set to personal preference thanks to the integrated balancer system in the butt stock.

“You feel the difference the minute you pick up the FBX,” said Jason Evans, CEO, Blaser Group. “The balance and handling are a thing of beauty, and its overall design and performance is German engineering at its finest.”

The elegant-looking black Diamond Like Carbon (DLC) coating on all visible steel surfaces provides increased durability due to its hardness and effective protection against corrosion. The barrels are available with Briley thin wall extended chokes or a fixed choke option and feature ventilated side rails for reduced weight and improved barrel cooling. The newly designed barrels have consistent wall thickness and contour even with the extended chokes, along with extended forcing cones to help reduce felt recoil.

WASHINGTON, D.C.—NSSF^®, The Firearm Industry Trade Association, has awarded Hyatt Farms Shooting Complex its coveted Five-Star rating for range excellence. Five stars is the highest rating in NSSF’s star-rating system, which evaluates shooting facilities based on appearance, management, shooting sports development and amenities.

Hyatt Farms is located in Polkton, North Carolina, about an hour southeast of Charlotte. Given the facility’s top-tier shooting and social amenities, customers from Charlotte’s metro area gladly make the trip to Hyatt Farms to spend a quality day at the range.

“Hyatt Farms is a most worthy recipient of NSSF’s five-star rating designation,” said Zach Snow, NSSF Director, Member Development. “As you would expect from a five-star-rated range, Hyatt Farms Shooting Complex offers a full menu services for customers with diverse shooting interests, including first-timers and novices to target shooting. Hyatt Farms is an impressive facility with a friendly, welcoming staff.”

Open seven days a week, Hyatt Farms can accommodate every type of shooter with its many rifle, pistol and shotgun ranges. The 600-yeard rifle range is the longest in the Charlotte area, has covered shooting benches and includes impact areas at 100, 200 and 300 yards. Its 50-yard sight-in range is the place to dial in your rifle and carbine accuracy. The tactical shooting bay offers steel and paper targets for pistol, rifle and shotgun. And there’s a new 100-yard range for law enforcement and competition use.

For clay target-shooting enthusiasts, Hyatt Farms boasts two 14-station sporting clays ranges, plus a covered five-stand facility. For sporting clays, there’s a Woods course and a Field course that each take advantage of the natural terrain, making for challenging target presentations. A popular new event for shotgun shooters is Friday Night Lights—a fun night shooting experience throwing glowing clay targets lit by black lights.

Education is a big part of the Hyatt Farms experience. The complex offers the largest number of training classes in the Charlotte area, including training for North Carolina concealed carry. Training classes cover the full gamut of shooting interests, including handgun fundamentals and advanced skills, defensive pistol, sporting clays introduction, introduction to the AR-15, precision long-range rifle, introduction to reloading and popular private training classes. All education sessions make use of comfortable indoor classrooms as well as the ranges.

When it comes to products and equipment, Hyatt Farms has a fully stocked retail shop and provides gunsmithing services. The shop offers firearms and ammunition for sale as well as for rent, plus shooting apparel, accessories, hunting supplies and concealed carry products.

The climate-controlled clubhouse is the place to relax and socialize. The Clubhouse Grille serves lunch, dinner and beverages and features wrap-around windows that look out on the grounds. The facility is a great spot for private and corporate events, including weddings. Catering on-site is available as well as overnight accommodations.

Hyatt Farms offers annual memberships as well as plans for sporting clays or rifle/pistol only, and daily passes are available for the general public.

NSSF Congratulates New ATF Acting Director Kash Patel

WASHINGTON, D.C. — NSSF^®, The Firearm Industry Trade Association, congratulates Kash Patel who President Donald Trump appointed on Monday as the Acting Director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). In addition to serving as Acting ATF Director, Patel was recently sworn in as the Senate-confirmed Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI).

“President Trump nominated Kash Patel as FBI Director for his unswerving dedication to protecting the Constitution and the adherence to the rule of law. Those same traits serve him well as he carries out President Trump’s plan to reform ATF,” said Lawrence G. Keane, NSSF Senior Vice President and General Counsel. “Like the FBI, the ATF was weaponized by the previous administration. In the case of ATF, it was to carry out a radical gun control agenda. President Trump’s appointment of Acting Director Patel to lead the ATF will return the bureau to its proper role as a law enforcement agency laser focused on combatting violent crime and illegal firearms trafficking, and to act as a non-partisan regulator of the firearm industry.”

NSSF is confident Acting Director Patel will view members of the firearm industry, including licensed retailers, as ATF’s partners on the front lines of keeping firearms out of the wrong hands, combatting illegal firearms trafficking and preventing violent crime involving the misuse of firearms.

The firearm industry hopes Acting Director Patel will move quickly, in consultation with Attorney General Pam Bondi, to carry out President Trump’s Protecting Second Amendment Executive Order. Thirty U.S. senators, led by U.S. Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas), sent a letter to Deputy Assistant Director Marvin G. Richardson last week imploring him to swiftly roll back the punitive and unconstitutional policies and final rules the Biden administration used to target the lawful firearm industry and gun owners. NSSF strongly supports the senators’ requests and President Trump’s swift action to refocus ATF to its Congressionally mandated role of combatting violent crime.

San Diego County Engineering Council Presented Award on Feb. 18

SAN DIEGO – 24 February 2025 – General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. is proud to congratulate Adam Cooperberg, lead engineer and engineering manager for the MQ-9B SeaGuardian^®, on his Outstanding Engineer Award from the San Diego County Engineering Council (SDCEC). Cooperberg received the honor from SDCEC President Debra Kimberling at a ceremony on Feb. 18.

Cooperberg manages integration and test activities across the MQ-9B product line. Overseeing a diverse engineering team, Mr. Cooperberg led the initial design and deployment of the first SeaGuardian, the most advanced medium altitude, long endurance unmanned aircraft of its kind in the world.

The SeaGuardian was derived from GA-ASI’s MQ-9B SkyGuardian^® and integrates a variety of world-class payloads onto the platform, including advanced maritime Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR), diverse Signals Intelligence (SIGINT), Communications Intelligence (COMINT), and sonobuoy monitoring and control. Most critically, all the data from these payloads is made available to operators through a cutting-edge combination of a Certifiable Ground Control Station (CGCS) and a mission operator station.

“Through Adam’s leadership, these capabilities have been exercised regularly with fielded customers as well as with more than 25 partner nations at various Department of Defense-sponsored exercises, demonstrating historic world firsts, particularly with Manned-Unmanned Teaming (MUM-T), Unmanned-Unmanned Teaming, collaborative Anti-Submarine Warfare, and long-range targeting,” said GA-ASI President David R. Alexander. “What Adam and his team have achieved helps us make a difference all over the world.”

Highlights from 2024 include self-deployment of SeaGuardian across the Pacific, between Hawaii and Southern California to participate in a multi-national military exercise, as well as supporting hundreds of flight hours of testing and international customer operations.

As a testament to the work of Mr. Cooperberg and his team, many new customers are acquiring MQ-9B SeaGuardian, leading to significant domestic and international interest. The platform’s modular design has allowed for rapid production and fielding of subsequent aircraft.

The SDCEC is a nonprofit umbrella organization that serves as a catalyst to bring local San Diego engineering society chapters and engineering educational institutions together to celebrate engineering achievements and promote outreach.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Colt’s Manufacturing’s innovative “Safety Impact Award” campaign, in which fans voted for football legends and their chosen safety non-profit organizations, scored big for NSSF’s Project ChildSafe^®, which received the top donation of $15,000 when football great Clay Matthews III tallied the most votes.

Matthews, who enjoys hunting and target shooting, chose Project ChildSafe as his safety charity for the campaign. Project ChildSafe is the long-running firearm safety education program of NSSF^®, The Firearm Industry Trade Association, that has distributed more than 41 million gun locks and is active in every state in the country.

“We’re thrilled with the outcome of this campaign, and we’re grateful to Colt for highlighting firearm safety in this creative way—and to Clay Matthews for selecting NSSF’s Project ChildSafe as his charity,” said Joe Bartozzi, NSSF President and CEO. “I’m a football fan and seeing these football greats stand up for safety is something I appreciate and admire.”

National 4-H Shooting Sports Signs on as Official +ONE Partner

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The National 4-H Shooting Sports program has joined the +ONE^® Movement, a national mentorship initiative led by NSSF^®, The Firearm Industry Trade Association, that encourages peer-to-peer mentorship in hunting and the shooting sports. By becoming an official +ONE Partner, National 4-H Shooting Sports stands alongside a growing coalition of organizations dedicated to introducing more people to safe and responsible participation in these activities.

The +ONE Movement is built on the principle that mentorship is the key to sustaining the future of hunting and recreational shooting. It encourages experienced hunters and target shooters to bring someone new along, helping them build confidence, skills and a lifelong passion for the outdoors. While individuals play a crucial role in mentoring their peers, +ONE Partners serve as the foundation for large-scale mentorship efforts, reaching hundreds of thousands of new participants each year.

As one of the most established youth shooting education programs in the country, National 4-H Shooting Sports provides hands-on instruction in firearm safety, archery and hunting ethics. Through a network of dedicated instructors and volunteers, the program fosters leadership, responsibility and a deep respect for conservation, ensuring that young people have meaningful opportunities to develop skills and confidence in a supportive environment.

“The National 4-H Shooting Sports program focuses on teaching youth safe and responsible firearm use, archery and hunting ethics, supported by caring adult leaders. With over 25,000 instructors reaching 400,000 youth annually, we are proud to be an official +ONE partner,” said Scott Stuhr, Program Coordinator, 4-H Shooting Sports. “This collaboration strengthens our shared commitment to mentorship and education, fostering a love for shooting sports, hunting and conservation that will last a lifetime.”

“To fuel shooting sports and hunting traditions, we all must put in the time to mentor and educate others on the range and in the field. National 4-H Shooting Sports allows community leaders to step up and play a role in advancing participation with youth and their families in a responsible way,” said Justin Morrissey, NSSF Director, Social Media and +ONE Liason. “Our +ONE partnership aims to expand outreach and participation to make more mentors and youth aware of the opportunities within 4-H Shooting Sports.”
