NSSF Applauds Interior Secretary Signing EXPLORE Act Implementation Order
WASHINGTON, D.C. — NSSF®, The Firearm Industry Trade Association, applauds U.S. Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum’s signing of a Secretarial Order to begin implementation of key provisions of H.R. 6492, the NSSF-supported Expanding Public Lands Outdoor Recreation Experiences (EXPLORE) Act, which was signed into law last year.
The new order designates leadership responsibilities, establishes coordination mechanisms and ensures timeline compliance with all statutory deadlines to expand outdoor recreation opportunities on U.S. public lands and waters.
“The entire firearm and ammunition industry is grateful to President Donald Trump and to Secretary Doug Burgum for making the public safety and recreational benefits of the EXPLORE Act legislation an early focus and for carrying through on their promises to stand with America’s outdoorsmen and women in promoting more opportunities for all Americans to fully realize hunting and recreational shooting opportunities on public lands,” said Lawrence G. Keane, NSSF Senior Vice President and General Counsel. “These initial implementation orders are a tremendous win for America’s gun owners and recreational target shooters, who overwhelmingly fund wildlife conservation in America. We stand side-by-side with Secretary Burgum in celebrating today’s first steps and are looking forward to additional opportunities to do so again in the future as more of the EXPLORE Act becomes a reality.”
The bipartisan legislation, signed into law last year, includes the NSSF-priority Range Access Act, which requires the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the U.S. Forest Service (USFS), after consultation with local stakeholders, to build recreational shooting ranges in each BLM district and National Forest in areas where opportunities don’t already exist. These opportunities will allow for more access to public shooting ranges for target practice, a place to sight in rifles and shotguns before the hunting season and venues for in-person hunter safety education courses, all without competing against private ranges that offer the same opportunities.
The immediate benefit of the EXPLORE Act legislation provides increased public access to safe recreational shooting ranges, especially in rural areas. This legislation also has the added benefit of supporting wildlife conservation and improving recreational shooting access. Recreational shooting is tied to approximately 85 percent of the Pittman-Robertson excise taxes currently being paid by firearm and ammunition manufacturers, making it the major driving contributor to wildlife conservation. Since the Pittman-Robertson excise tax was enacted in 1937, firearm and ammunition makers have paid $27.38 billion in inflation-adjusted dollars for conservation, hunter education and the construction and improvement of public recreational shooting ranges.
Secretary Burgum also signed a Secretarial Order to strengthen coordination with gateway communities, or those adjacent to or that act as the primary access point to units of the National Park System. That order will recognize these communities as key stakeholders in System Unit management and planning, improve communication between the communities and the Department of the Interior, leverage federal programs to support these communities and institutionalize accountability for community engagement within the National Park Service management practices.

Sunday’s Quaker State 400 Available at Walmart NASCAR Cup Series event marks the 123rd race hosted by EchoPark Speedway, formerly Atlanta Motor Speedway, in Cup Series’ history. In 17 Cup Series starts at the track, Dillon earned a best finish of sixth in March 2021.

At the top of the shotgun is a 7mm checkered and vented anti-glare raised rib fitted with a fiber optic (WS Youth) or Brass Bead (FieldHunter Youth and PS Youth) front sight and 11mm grooves for scope mounts suitable for all environments and terrain. Depending on the purpose, the tube magazine holds 4+1 or, for hunting purposes, a migratory plug limits the capacity to 2+1. While in the field, sling studs are mounted for easy carry. Safety is not overlooked; manual cross-button trigger safeties are incorporated into the design for single-finger release without compromising target sight or removing hands from placement.
WS Youth:
Coming in 20 Gauge, the new for 2025 WS Youth is the perfect pump-action firearm for young hunters and shooters. It is built with small-framed shooters in mind while keeping a traditional look and excellent Turkish walnut furniture for the stock and forend. The 13-¾ inch length of pull for comfortable use leaves enough room to grow into and use for decades. The checkered grip surfaces provide an ergonomic control point, increasing grip and consistent handling. Likewise, a soft rubber buttpad assists in absorbing recoil and mitigating excessive load bruising.
The WS Youth measures 44 inches total and weighs 7 lbs, making it a perfect option for weight-based recoil mitigation while remaining lightweight for carry.
FieldHunter Youth:
Escort’s FieldHunter Youth carries many of the same quality features as the WS Youth. It shares receiver and barrel material construction and quality. The same anodized aircraft alloy and chrome-plated steel barrel are used and proof tested at the factory to ensure maximum durability. The FieldHunter Youth is for all levels of youth shooting and incorporates a 3-inch magnum chamber in a 20-gauge pump action. Capable of firing 2-¾ inch to 3-inch shells, the FieldHunter Youth easily handles upland birds to turkey.
Emphasis on fowl hunting is obvious and translates to a synthetic stock and forend for optimal weight reduction, durability, and water resistance. Stock shims are included for adjustment of drop and cast, not only for improved fit but also improved accuracy and for the best placement and removal of any potential slop that may arise with time or rough use. The stock and forend feature checkered patterns in the synthetic materials for retention, improving control. PS Youth:
PS Youth is a semiautomatic gas-operated shotgun in .410 and 20 gauge, using the SMART Valve Piston system. It handles 7/8 to 2 ounce magnum loads. Fast follow-up shots and a wide range of shell choices make this one of the most exciting youth shotguns in the Escort lineup.

This second-generation sight features bigger and brighter rear tritium dots than its predecessor. The EasyPress features eliminate the need for filing and hammering and reduce the force needed for installation by up to 50%. Designed with a BlackNitride surface finish, this treatment offers twice the corrosion resistance of traditional black oxide, ensuring superior durability and long-lasting performance.
