Black Wing Shooting Center Renews Its NSSF Five-Star Range Rating
WASHINGTON, D.C. — NSSF®, The Firearm Industry Trade Association, has awarded Black Wing Shooting Center its coveted Five-Star rating for range excellence—for the second time. Five stars is the highest rating in NSSF’s star-rating system, which evaluates shooting facilities based on appearance, management, shooting sports development and amenities.
Black Wing Shooting Center, located in Delaware, Ohio, had previously earned a Five-Star rating under NSSF’s original rating criteria in 2008. However, Black Wing’s management sought to renew its rating by surpassing the more stringent criteria in NSSF’s new range rating process.
Black Wing Shooting Center is a family-owned, full-service shooting facility that prides itself on customer service. Given the business’s emphasis on family, it’s perhaps not surprising that Black Wing is situated in the town of Delaware, which has been called the best hometown in Ohio. Delaware is just north of the population center of Columbus.

Customers enjoy using Black Wing’s indoor and outdoor shooting ranges. The indoor ranges consist of 21 lanes total — 14 for handgun and 7 for rifle—that are climate controlled. Black Wing does not charge by the hour, so customers can enjoy their time at the shooting station and not watch the clock. Rental guns are available, allowing patrons to try out a variety of equipment.
The outdoor ranges are a clay target shooter’s delight. Trap, skeet and sporting clays are available and Five-stand shooting is enjoyed under a covered pavilion.
Black Wing Shooting Center is known for its knowledgeable, friendly staff that emphasizes family enjoyment of the shooting sports. The range’s family-inclusive memberships reflect its supportive, fun approach to recreational shooting. Even when you can’t make it to the facility, you can stay in touch with Black Wing by listening to its popular podcasts!
If you’re looking to buy a firearm, ammunition, gear or accessories, Black Wing has both on-site and online retail shops that carry top brands and other unique items. The retail shop has more than 2,000 new and used firearms and an experienced staff to help match customers with the right firearm for their shooting activity. In addition to firearms, the shop offers suppressors, gun safes, cleaning items, gunsmithing tools, range bags and more. Gunsmithing services and Cerakoting are available as well.
Black Wing’s shooting leagues are hugely popular. For indoor fun, there are bowling pin and dueling tree leagues plus a machine gun challenge, among many others. On the outdoor ranges, seasonal trap and sporting clays leagues are often full. Black Wing also hosts annual events such as the Ohio Suppressor Fest inviting leading suppressor brands to provide an opportunity for customers to demo their product and the Summer Blast where they raise funds for the youth shooting sports with the support of local businesses and their community.
Black Wing makes training a priority and offers an extensive selection of classes for all skill levels. There are courses to help customers select the right handgun, concealed carry, handgun cleaning and maintenance, among many other courses. Skill-level courses in handgun, rifle and shotgun are available, plus training for family and youth, home defense, non-lethal and many others. Black Wing pays close attention to new shooters and offers a new-shooter training package that gets novices oriented in the right way—safely and under supervision.
Black Wing can easily handle a variety of events such as birthday, bachelor and bachelorette parties, meetings, team building and corporate networking. There are meeting and banquet rooms, a lounge and a private range.
