PAT ROGERS OF EAG TACTICAL PASSES

I never had the pleasure or opportunity to meet Pat Rogers but I had a genuine liking for this charismatic warrior and his many “New Yorkism.” God only knows how many Moose Cock awards he’s handed out. His resume is amazing and so was his training and pedagogy . Regrettably, I never had the opportunity to benefit from his experience; I consider that my loss.

Fair winds and following seas Pat, rest your oars. But, if in your journey you run across some assholes remember that everybody gets one before anybody gets two!  R.I.P

This post replaces our customary Friday shoot-the-shit topic.

SNEAK PREVIEW: WALTHER PPQ .45 ACP

DSC_0884

Walther introduced its new PPQ, a 12 + 1 .45 ACP, at SHOT SHOW 2016, in Las Vegas. In my opinion, this gem of a shooter is the Patek Philippe of polymer .45 ACP pistols. The company’s newest PPQ has the best trigger that I’ve experienced in any polymer production pistol. We have a review for our readers in the works that will be out in June. This pistol has the distinction of being the first .45 ACP in Walther’s 150 year history and they’ve hit a homerun, so stay tuned.

Advantage Tactical Sights Dark Diamond Night Sight

red from back website file

Santa Fe, NM (May 2016) – Advantage Tactical Sights, a maker of innovative, accurate sights that allow rapid target acquisition, is pleased to announce its new Dark Diamond Night Sight

(ATS-DD). The ATS-DD is the first iron sight that enables one to make an accurate shot, in total darkness, at distance, using only a glowing front sight. The new ATS-DD is now shipping from the Advantage Tactical Sight’s website store and will formally debut at the 2016 NRA Annual Meeting and Exhibits in Louisville, Kentucky at booth 4257, May 20 – 22, 2016.

“Before the Dark Diamond Night Sight, other sights with an illuminated front sight were only accurate at distances of up to 5 yards. With the Dark Diamond Sight you can reach out to distances of 15, 20, 25 yards and beyond in total darkness. Let’s face it, when its dark and you need your gun, you need to be able to see where you’re shooting, with the Dark Diamond Sight you can have complete confidence in your nighttime accuracy,” said Richard Nasef, President of Advantage Tactical Sights.

Here’s how it works:

Simply align the front and rear sights in daylight or darkness and when you see a diamond shape you know you’re aligned. The tip of the diamond is where your shot will go.

1) Rear sight 2) Front Sight 3) Front and Rear Sight Aligned in Daylight 4) Front and Rear Sight Aligned in Darkness

The ATS Glock Dark Diamond sight is now shipping from the Advantage Tactical Sight retail website store and soon will be for sale at most ATS vendors. By mid May 2016 or before, the ATS-DD sight line will be available for SIG Sauer, Springfield XD, Walther PPQ and all ATS long guns.  To order one visit Advantage Tactical. The Advantage Tactical Sight and Advantage Tactical Dark Diamond will soon be available for all handguns, shotguns, carbines and rifles.

HARRIS PUBLICATIONS IS DISCONTINUING OPERATIONS

We got word from our colleagues in New York that Harris Publications is discontinuing operations citing the deleterious effect digital media has had on the printed press. The 39 year old publication was clearly, in all of our minds, the finest publisher in the genera. We’re sorry to see them go.

Official Statement

“It is with great sadness that we are announcing the closing of Harris Publications.  For nearly 40 years, Harris Publications has been a mainstay in enthusiast publishing.

We are extremely grateful for the tremendous contributions of our employees, past and present.  The hard work and dedication of our creative, sales, circulation and operations teams and the talents of our freelance editors, writers, photographers and designers are what allowed us to continue delivering thoughtful and beautiful magazines to our readers.

The magazine publishing industry has been through turmoil in the face of the rapid ascendance of digital media, changing consumer content preferences, magazine wholesaler struggles and consolidation in the supply chain.  We have tried mightily to persevere against these forces, but have been unable to overcome these challenges.”

THINGS IN GENERAL

It’s Friday and time for our weekly shoot-the-shit. This is the one time of the week when you the reader can make unsupported statements, use profanity, insult anyone you wish or change the subject altogether. Folks, a therapist, an individual who studied a behavioral science (loosely defined because there is no science to it) so they could understand themselves, would charge you for what we deliver absolutely free. That’s value!

All joking aside, I’ve had a very trying week. My bicycle saddle and I almost had an intimate relationship. I tried reconstructing the event, not because I liked it, to make sure it doesn’t repeat itself, without success. To make a long story short, the saddle’s nose found its way to my intergluteal cleft, had there been further penetration I would have filed criminal charges. For the life of me, I still can’t figure out what the hell happened.

So, how do you guys and gals like this election year? It’s amazing readers; I’ve never seen anything like this from both Republicans and Democrats. Hillary Clinton undoubtedly has Bernie Sanders dolls that she’s sticking pins into hoping he’ll collapse. Bernie is probably wearing  garlic cloves around his neck.

On the Republican side the informed opinion is that Donald Trump will take Indiana and West Virginia and if that happens Ted Cruz and John Kasich can call it a day. Ted Cruz says he’s not about to let that happen and he’s hitting the ground hard in West Virginia, and influenced by former Speaker John Boehner’s Lucifer comment this is what a his West Virginia Town Hall could look like…

Alright, we’ve had enough fun for one day and it’s time for you all to have a super weekend. Try to get to the range and be safe. Enjoy time with your buds and family – it is perishable.

BURRIS XTR SIGNATURE RINGS

The famous Signature Rings go tactical Burris Signature Rings have been perennial best sellers for Burris, for very good reasons: the Pos-Align Inserts not only stop damage to the scope finish, they solve all sorts of alignment issues, and make it easy to get a good zero.
The
new XTR Signature Rings are the tactical version. They’re beefier, with six clamping screws per ring, and strong steel bases that self-center on Weaver and Picatinny rails. They feature Pos-Align Inserts – so you get easy adjustments and scope protection, like all Signature Rings.

CAN I CANT?

In order to maximize your scope’s internal elevation adjustments, most long range shooters will use a tapered or canted base. Starting with a standard 20 MOA canted base means that you get an extra 20 MOA of elevation adjustment in your scope — it’s like getting a head start in your race out to 1000 yards and beyond.
You can use the XTR Signature Rings to cant your scope, but with a lot more flexibility and adjustment than you would get with a tapered base. The XTR Signature Rings come with offset inserts in 5 MOA, 10 MOA and 20 MOA. These inserts allow you to adjust your cant 5 MOA at a time, up to a whopping 40 MOA of maximum elevation gain (by combining both included sets of 20 MOA inserts).
That will save your scope’s internal elevation for in-field adjusting and make dialing in those longer range shots much easier.

Infinite Adjustments

The XTR Signature ring inserts can be rotated to any angle, which gives you an infinite number of adjustments. Zeroing your scope is now more accurate, easier, and more precise than ever before.
You can rotate the front, rear, or both, sets of Pos-Align Inserts to get the exact point of impact you need.  A small rotation can push the scope in any direction you need.  The XTR Signature Rings are sold with a booklet with detailed instructions.

MARTIAL ARTS AND SELF DEFENSE

We’ve been swamped with a variety of projects this week so we’re a little late getting this week’s shoot-the-shit topic done. For those just joining us, each Friday we come up with a topic that may or may not be consistent with the Blog’s central theme. We encourage readers to participate and feel free to make unsupported comments, use uncensored profanity, insult anyone you wish or change the subject altogether.

A large number of folks have expressed an interest in pursuing martial arts training as a vehicle for self-defense. We encourage those falling into that group to reconsider your decision. A successful defense strategy has but one objective and that is maintaining physical separation between you and the assailant and nothing surpasses the effectiveness of a firearm in achieving that goal. All of the martial arts require physical contact so they fail to maintain separation. Even pepper sprays fail to meet our separation objective unless you’re using police grade dispensers. Any assailant armed with a gun, knife, bat, etc., presents a lethal threat and it is highly unlikely that you would prevail; statistically the deck is stacked against you, regardless of how many You Tube videos you’ve watched.

Your key to surviving a self-defense scenario has always been, and will continue to be, situational awareness. Avoid putting yourself into a situation that you have to fight your way out of. However, life being what it is, if you find your-self  in an unavoidable confrontation, your defensive posture should consist of two concentric circles with you at the center. The outer circle has a 20 foot radius and the inner circle a 10 foot radius. A threat entering the 20 foot space is prioritized and anything entering the 10 foot space gets immediate attention.

Martial arts are great and there are tons of styles, schools and just plain garbage. Study the martial arts to develop discipline, agility and physical wellness. Study traditional arts like judo, aikido, kung fu and karate from professionally accredited schools. Aikido and Kung Fu are disciplines that you can practice until you’re 90. Approach the martial arts with an interest in their history, philosophy  and as interesting and effective wellness tools, but let your firearm handle the defensive work.

Have a great weekend. Have some fun, but be safe. Spend some quality time with your buds and family.

STREAMLIGHT® UPGRADES HIGH LUMEN PORTABLE SCENE LIGHT

EAGLEVILLE, PA, April 18, 2016–Streamlight® Inc., a leading provider of high-performance lighting, has increased the lumen output of its high lumen Portable Scene Light to 5,300 lumens. The updated light also now features a red low battery warning indicator.

Featuring a narrow footprint and a telescoping extension pole, the Portable Scene Light can be used almost anywhere by first responders and other professionals for scene lighting purposes, from wide, open places to tight, confined work areas.

“We have upgraded the Portable Scene Light from 3,600 to 5,300 lumens, to give users an even more extraordinary high lumen flood light,” said Streamlight Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Michael F. Dineen.  “This completely portable flood light can be conveniently carried and rapidly deployed in less than 30 seconds. It’s ideal for lighting large scale scenes, such as fires and major accidents, as well as for examining small, narrow spaces such as in mining and industrial inspections. With its long run times, the light can be used throughout an entire work shift without having to recharge the battery.  And users now will be able to easily detect when the battery is running low with the light’s new low battery indicator light.”

The Portable Scene Light uses six C4® LEDs and wide-pattern parabolic reflectors to provide two selectable beam widths and three levels of light intensity, ranging from a super-bright flood beam to a low setting with ultra-long run times. The light features a rotating head that can be extended on a telescoping pole to an overall height of 72 inches, supported by stabilizing legs that can be quickly deployed and locked to provide balance on uneven surfaces. The light also features a 90 degree swivel neck, enabling users to aim the light beam precisely where it is needed for task lighting purposes.

On the high setting, the light delivers an incredibly bright 5,300 and a four-hour run time, over a beam distance of 410 meters. On medium, it provides 2,500 lumens, nine hours of run time and a beam distance of 292 meters. On low, the light runs for 18 hours and offers 1,300 lumens, and a beam distance of 215 meters. A selectable diffuser permits users to choose between the two beam widths, which are available with all three lighting modes.

The Portable Scene Light is powered by a zero-maintenance 12 volt, 14.4 Ah sealed lead acid battery that is rechargeable up to 500 times. The light can be charged to 90 percent of its capacity in 10 hours. Red and green LEDs provide charge status feedback. The light also will run indefinitely by plugging the included remote 10-foot power cord into a DC power source; an AC adapter is also included. A toggle switch allows users to switch between the battery and power source modes of operation.

Constructed from high-impact thermoplastic housing, the Portable Scene Light offers weatherproof construction. It features an IP67 design for dust-tight and waterproof operation to 1 one meter for 30 minutes.  The light also is engineered to resist 40 MPH winds continuous in all directions with its head fully extended.

The Portable Scene Light light measures 22 inches in length and 6.5 inches in width, and weighs 25 pounds. It packs to a compact size for easy storage.

Available in international safety yellow, the light comes with a heavy duty shoulder carrying strap, AC charger, 12V DC cord and Streamlight’s Limited Lifetime Warranty.  The MSRP is $1,149.00.

NEGLIGENT ENTRUSTMENT ?

It’s Friday and time for our weekly shoot-the-shit topic. As you know, the Clinton Campaign is actively encouraging civil suits against the ammunition and firearm industry for misuse or unauthorized use of their products. The poster child, and I use that analogy with the greatest respect, is the Newtown killings by Adam Lanza on 14 December 2012 at Sandy Hook Elementary School. This national tragedy sparked an outcry for more stringent gun control and even before local police and the State Attorney’s office could conduct an investigation, an angry and misinformed public demanded the heads of the gun manufacturer, distributor and retailer who sold Adam Lanza the firearms. That justifiable anger played into the hands of those whose sole interest is in advancing the gun control argument by politicizing the tragic event.

It was not until 25 November 2013, when the Connecticut State Attorney released “Report of the State’s Attorney for the Judicial District of Danbury on the Shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School and36 Yogananda Street,Newtown, Connecticut on December 14, 2012 that it became clear that all of the firearms used in the killings by Adam Lanza were legally purchased by Mrs. Lanza, Adams mother, and not Mr. Lanza. The following is an excerpt from the report that you can read in its entirety here

The following weapons were recovered in the course of this investigation: (1) a Bushmaster Model XM15-E2S semi-automatic rifle, found in the same classroom as the shooter’s body. All of the 5.56 mm shell casings from the school that were tested were found to have been fired from this rifle. (2) a Glock 20, 10 mm semi-automatic pistol found near the shooter’s body and determined to have been the source of the self-inflicted gunshot wound by which he took his own life. (3) a Sig Sauer P226, 9 mm semi-automatic pistol found on the shooter’s person. There is no evidence this weapon had been fired. (4) a Izhmash Saiga-12, 12 gauge semi-automatic shotgun found in the shooter’s car in the parking lot outside the school, and which was secured in the vehicle’s trunk by police responding to the scene. There is no evidence this weapon had been fired. (5) a Savage Mark II rifle found at 36 Yogananda Street on the floor of the master bedroom near the bed where the body of the shooter’s mother was found. This rifle also was found to have fired the four bullets recovered during the autopsy of the shooter’s mother.

All of the firearms were legally purchased by the shooter’s mother. Additionally, ammunition of the types found had been purchased by the mother in the past, and there is no evidence that the ammunition was purchased by anyone else, including the shooter.

Confronted by this reality, the movement’s attention turned towards the Remington Group, Camfour Inc., and Riverview Gun Sales, the named Defendants in a law suite that alleged “negligent entrustment” The Defendants asked the court for a dismissal under the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA), which protects gun makers from civil lawsuits, such as those brought by victims of gun crimes. Yesterday, the motion was denied by Judge Barbara Bellis of the Connecticut Superior Court paving the way for the trial to continue. If the plaintiffs prevail all firearm and ammunition manufacturers are at risk from meritless law suites.

The facts in this case suggest to us that Mrs. Lanza’s failure to secure her personal firearms resulted in her demise and that of the Sandy Hook children; if negligent entrustment applies in principal and concept it should fall on Mrs. Lanza not the Defendants.

So, just how difficult is it to secure your firearm and render it unusable by your kids? Unfortunately there is a large segment of the population lacking an understanding that all firearms can easily be rendered safe, even if loaded. To promote that understanding, we put together a short unscripted video that’s over miked and under lit demonstrating the process. It’s not difficult you simply need to be a conscientious and responsible gun owner parent.

Have a safe weekend everyone. Get out with your buds and family; maybe a little range time is in order. We love hearing from you and remember that all shoot-the-shit rules apply!

Zapata Racing Flyboard Air

Zapata Racing started life competing in powered water craft events. The company’s founder Franky Zapata has been engaged in designing high performance hydro propelled devices. Zapata’s latest project, still in development, is  the Flyboard® Air. Unlike the hydro-propelled devices, like the Jetpack, that require a hose for water intake, the Flyboard® Air is fully autonomous.

The Flyboard Air is an independent propulsion unit with some impressive capabilities not withstanding its limited operating time of 10 minutes. The Flyboard Air has an operating ceiling of 10,000 feet and a top speed of 150 km / hr. or 93.2 mph.

I can think of a number of military or tactical applications for the Flyboard Air. How about getting to the top of a building or an emergency egress. Or, perhaps negotiating a terrain obstacle or board a vessel.

Zapata Racing is a French company. Organizations interested in taking a closer look at the prototype, contact Franky Zapata at http://zapata-racing.com/en/
