PROMOTION DETAILS
Man can you believe that Christmas is upon us, 2016 is at an end and I for one can’t wait to get this behind us. What a year readers! It’s Friday and time for our weekly shot the shit topic.
I use my smart device for much more than just texting or checking e-mails and those applications require that the device magnetic sensor is operating properly. Quite often you’ll find that map orientation is way off or compass headings are 90 degrees out. Direction of fire for example is an important parameter because from that you’ll understand relative wind direction. So, it’s important for the sensor to point magnetic North. Interestingly enough, manufacturers like Samsung provide little or no information on how to calibrate your magnetic sensor. Nor do they provide an app that allows you to do that; therefore, I’m going to show you how to do that. A couple of caveats before I document the procedure.
First, you should perform this procedure outdoors and away from your typical magnetic influences like stereo speakers, power lines, etc., etc.
Second, this procedure is limited to the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S7.
Alright here’s the procedure.
1. From your home screen, identify your phone app and open it up
2. From your phone app enter the following string *#0*#
3. You’ll see a display with a number of tiles. Select the tile labeled “Sensor”
4. At the bottom of the screen, you’ll see the Magnetic Sensor box. From here you can run a self test or Power Noise Test ( this is an advanced test which will mean little to you). In the lower left hand corners you’ll see a window with a red line. This red line lets you know that the magnetic sensor should be calibrated.
To calibrate the sensor, rotate the phone on the X,Y and Z axis (all axis). You should now see a blue or green line. Once that happens you are done.
5. To get out of this maintenance screen repeatedly press the back button until you get back to your normal home screen. The phone may not respond immediately to the back button press – No sweat, just continue to press it.
When you’re done, you’ll find that your compass apps or navigation apps will be dead nuts on.
As with any shoot the shit topic, readers are free to make any unsupported comment, use uncensored profanity, insult anyone you wish or change the subject altogether – but please, please, please no Russian hacking!
We’ll be in Christmas mode all of next week but feel free to e-mail, suggest or comment. Readers, have a Merry Christmas and an extraordinary New Year! Please be safe but enjoy this amazing Holiday. It is special in so many ways.

Ritter & Stark, the new Austrian firearm manufacturing company for the SX-1 Modular Tactical Rifle, will bring its innovative weapon system to the biggest shooting sports exhibition in the U.S.
Feistritz, Austria (December 2016) – Ritter & Stark, an Austrian-based firearms design and manufacturing company, will be exhibiting its SX-1 Modular Tactical Rifle (MTR) at the SHOT Show®, in Las Vegas, Nevada, Jan. 17 – 20, 2017 in the NEXT Pavilion, Kiosk 331 and in the New Product Center.
The SX-1 MTR has already made a serious impression at some of the largest defense exhibitions in the world, including the recent AUSA conference. What makes the SX-1 MTR a standout long-range precision rifle is its ability to quickly and easily change calibers between a .308 Win., .300 Win Magnum and a .338 Lapua Magnum. Unlike other modular rifles, the SX-1 has a MIL-STD 1913 Picatinny rail directly installed on the barrel, thus allowing for barrel interchangeability with pre-set scopes with no shift of impact when changing calibers. The patented caliber conversion system allows the barrel to be precisely positioned in the machined aluminum receiver with a greater area of contact allowing for more stability. The bolt is locked directly into the barrel breech giving the SX-1 unprecedented accuracy, shot after shot.
Additionally, other features on the SX-1 MTR make it attractive to law enforcement, military operators and serious shooters. The SX-1’s modularity allows the utilization of different aftermarket magazines, triggers and grips.
Ritter & Stark barrels are guaranteed to at least leading in industry 5,000 rounds for .308Win and .338LM, and 2,000 rounds for .300WM assuring 100% of accuracy. Ritter & Stark’s SX-1 MTR’s performance is factory proven to be a consistent 0.5 MOA with 3-round groups or better using factory match grade ammunition.
The SX-1 MTR is the rifle of the future. It combines the newest manufacturing processes with the most technologically advanced materials and is designed by some of the world’s most highly skilled firearms engineers.
Ritter & Stark will be participating at the Veterans Forward Operating Base – Try and Buy Event -SHOT 2017 on January 15 – 16 at the Pro Gun Club. For more information on this event visit www.veteransfob.com

India has been toying with replacing the problematic INSAS rifles and in 2015 the Indian Army made a decision to replace their in-service INSAS rifle with an indigenous improved version of INSAS designated the Excalibur chambered in 5.56. The Excalibur operates in full auto, a departure from the 3 round burst of the INSAS assault rifle.
The Excalibur performed reliably in trials with only two failure to eject in 24,000 rounds fired. The Excalibur barrel is also shorter by 4 mm, featured a side folding buttstock and a Picatinny mounting rail.
![]()
The Indian Government views the 5.56 round as “a cartridge better suited to war because it only wounds which ties up two additional men to care for the wounded soldier.” While the 7.62 x 51 is “better for counterinsurgency” for its lethality; hence, the Indian Army was looking for a caliber conversion as well. In 2016 that requirement was abandoned and now the Indian Government is looking to replace the service INSAS rifle with a rifle chambered in a 7.62 x 51. All of this sounds like a great opportunity for IWI which already has a relationship with India or Fabrique National Herstal with the excellent SCAR 17 rifle.

The folks at Remington have finally jumped into the full-sized polymer frame, striker fired pistol. I haven’t put it through its paces at the range but I there are several things that I really like right off the bat.
Remington was paying attention to what Walther Arms was doing with their outstanding PPQ. Grip angle, size and shape (i.e thumb shelves) are Walther like. Nothing wrong with that as the Walther PPQ has the best ergonomics on the planet. Remington also included interchangeable backstarps. The Remington’s RP9 is fully ambidextrous and the company included slide serrations fore and aft. Other Features…

Time’s Person of the Year recognizes individuals of considerable achievement and who’s lives are worthy of emulation. This year, Time named President-Elect Donald J Trump as its Person of the Year. Mr. Trump saw a country in need of direction and its citizens and their needs relegated to insignificance. AT great expense, and personal sacrifice, President-Elect Trump stepped up to the plate, taking heat from the Washington elite and a media who was in the Clinton’s back pocket, to deliver a win for our citizens and the Republican Party. No small feat when you consider his lack of political experience and his less than eloquent delivery. We couldn’t agree more with Time’s pick for this year’s Person of the Year.
However, good does not stand alone and there must be an opposing force, if only for reference, this is why we created the FOG Horn Jackass of the Year.
This year’s Jackass award goes to John Frederick Dickerson. This is a distinction we bestowed on Mr. Dickerson in 2013.
Mr. Dickerson wrote in an article published in The Slate…
“…Obama’s only remaining option is to pulverize. Whether he succeeds in passing legislation or not, given his ambitions, his goal should be to delegitimize his opponents. Through a series of clarifying fights over controversial issues, he can force Republicans to either side with their coalition’s most extreme elements or cause a rift in the party that will leave it, at least temporarily, in disarray…”
Rather than encouraging bipartisan cooperation, he felt that President Obama could decimate the Republican Party throwing it into disarray. Well Mr. Dickerson Surprise, Surprise, Surprise! You are our 2016 Jackass of the Year!
We’re ecstatic with President-Elect Trump’s pick for Secretary of Defense, Ret U.S.M.C. General James N. Mattis. I was quietly sitting reading his biography – what an amazing resume! You can’t easily find that level of experience, honor and distinction in one package.
I was also impressed to find out that he is a prolific reader with a personal library of 7,000 or more volumes – all undoubtedly richly illustrated!
Just kidding General…
It may be a bit premature but I’d like to extend my congratulations on your appointment sir. The DoD is picking up one heck of a man at a time when there’s a lot of work to be done in some very challenging times.
If you’d like to wear a lightweight, stable and athletically engineered boot you need to try the MAGNUM OPUS MID boot. You’ll love this boot!

The Federal Bureau of Investigations abandoned physical requirements since 1999. The agency had requirements in place from 1980 to 1999 but for some reason, perhaps due to 9/11, physical fitness performance guidelines fell by the wayside. This changed in 2015 when FBI Director James Comey reintroduced minimum physical requirements. All Special Agents must meet the following physical requirements.

Winder, GA, December, 2016, G2 Research— NEW Telos .38 Special +P and 9mm +P self-defense rounds pack real stopping power at an affordable price.

Both .38 Special and 9mm Parabellum rounds have been underrated over the last decade when compared with other newer handgun rounds. “That will change with these new G2 Research +P Telos rounds. These new rounds are specifically designed and loaded to stop fights–quickly!”–Chris Nix, VP Sales & Marketing.
There is good news:
The Telos bullet is CNC manufactured using a pure copper slug. It has a huge internally segmented hollow-point. Once the hollow point fills with fluid it literally flies apart in controlled-fragmentation releasing six-copper petals.
These fragments spread inside the target for several inches causing pain, increasing blood loss thus lowering blood pressure. The base of the bullet continues to travel forward for additional penetration (10+-inches). The Telos bullet is designed to stay inside the target releasing all of its energy, not into an innocent bystander on the other side of the target.

Okay, we can all thank the Almighty that Donald J Trump and Mike Pence won this election. I hear White House staffers are secretly celebrating the Trump victory; now they won’t need to inventory White House furniture and dinnerware before leaving the premises. Ok, so, Judging by President-Elect Trump’s cabinet picks there’s good reason to feel optimistic. However, the drama surrounding his pick for Secretary of State is intensifying and an increasingly tough decision as everyone of his candidates is extremely well qualified and capable, but our vote goes to David Petraeus.
Here’s why…

Reuters Report by Maria Sheahan
German arms manufacturer Heckler & Koch will no longer sign contracts to supply countries outside of NATO’s influence because it has become too difficult to obtain government approval for such deals, news agency DPA reported on Monday.
The company, one of the world’s best-known gunmakers, will in future only sell to countries that are democratic and free from corruption and that are members of NATO or NATO members’ partners, DPA said, citing company sources.
It said this change in strategy would rule out deals with countries such as Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Brazil, India or even NATO member Turkey.
Heckler & Koch did not respond to requests for comment.
Its HK416 assault rifle is said to have been used to kill Osama bin Laden and its G36 rifle is standard issue for armies across the globe.
However, German restrictions on arms exports to the Middle East have weighed on its business, contributing to a 90 percent collapse in operating earnings last year.
The company sued the German government last year for failing to approve a deal to supply Saudi Arabia with parts needed to make its G36 assault rifle.
The deal had been approved in 2008 despite concerns about human rights abuses in the Gulf kingdom, but the German government changed its approach on arms exports two years ago.
German Economy Minister Sigmar Gabriel has sought to curb sales of tanks and small arms in particular since taking office late in 2013, arguing that guns such as assault rifles were the weapons of choice in civil wars all over the world.
Selling weapons is highly sensitive in Germany due to the country’s World War Two history. It is the world’s fifth- biggest exporter of major arms, according to the SIPRI research institute, and the industry employs about 80,000 people.

We had the opportunity to review Streamlight’s latest addition to their TLR line. I’m consistently amazed by how much value this Pennsylvania company engineers into its tactical product line. Here’s a light that packs a whopping 800 lumens, preserves the original form factor of the TLR-1 so you don’t need to replace your $190 light bearing holster, is IPX7 compliant and will run for 1.7 hours continuously on 2 CR123A batteries. Ottawa, Canada (November 28, 2016)- Revision Military, a recognized innovator in power management and electronics solutions and platforms, has formalized a strategic partnership with leading South Korean lithium-ion cell manufacturing company, Kokam. Under this agreement, Revision and Kokam will build on their near-decade-long working relationship. Revision and Kokam will continue to collaborate on technologically progressive air and ground power platforms, and will incorporate cutting-edge chemistry technology into advanced energy solutions for military use.
Over the last decade, Revision has incorporated Kokam’s large form-factor lithium-ion cell technology in the design and development of high-end military power platforms. This has resulted in energy solutions that feature greater power performance, high energy density, high gravimetric and volumetric power density, longer cycle and calendar life, low impedance and heat generation, lightweight, low self-discharge rates, and extremely efficient heat dissipation. Revision has taken this excellent foundation and developed industry-accelerating power management solutions specifically engineered for use in rugged, remote, and extreme conditions. Together, Kokam and Revision have made significant progress in using lithium-ion technology to deliver operational effectiveness on the battlefield, and are solving power management issues that have plagued operators since electrical energy became a battlefield necessity.
“With two strong, innovative power management collaborators like Revision and Kokam working together, new and intelligent power solutions for operational survivability can be accomplished,” said Jonathan Blanshay, CEO, Revision. “In formalizing this strategic relationship, we can address our customers and their operational needs for an ever-more connected and electric battlefield. Kokam has a sterling reputation for providing battery solutions for a wide variety of military applications to leading international defense contractors and Ministries of Defense; this partnership reinforces Revision’s focus on the military power market, and reinforces the approach we have taken so far that has resulted in significant contracts. We’re excited to cultivate this partnership further, and to seize this opportunity to fuel continued growth, specifically for vehicular platform power innovation, as demand surges globally for reliable, lightweight, high-endurance electrical power solutions to meet battlefield needs. Together with Kokam, we will deliver warfighter power solutions with a lean logistical footprint and real operational benefit, thereby relegating back-breaking loads of batteries and inefficient vehicle systems to the past.”
Revision and Kokam will build on the past successes the two companies have had together. Kokam’s patented Z-folding manufacturing technique and advanced Lithium Polymer and thin film laminations will continue to feature in Revision’s operationally focused Nerv Centr energy solution programs for the foreseeable future. In formalizing this partnership, Revision and Kokam are mutually poised to expand market reach on a global scale in the constantly-evolving military power management industry.
