A Bunch Of Stuff!

Image result for bunch of things

It’s Friday and time for our weekly shoot the shit. We made it through another week in an environment that’s increasingly more insane, if you’ve been keeping up with the news. If Democrats keep their Congressional seats in 2018 it will be a miracle, but no politics this week.

This week, I took the liberty to tweet Jaguar and Volvo to express my dissatisfaction with their television ads. They’re asking you to spend $60K –$70K for their higher end vehicles and doing so by having two jackasses driving down the road “…I own the East and West, the North and South…” WTF? Then, joy boy is running through the gears in his Jaguar. These guys are doing nothing but making a speed run to Micky’s West Hollywood. Please, produce an ad that tells me about your product!

If that’s not enough, Senokot’s commercial is a real doozy! If you haven’t seen it, here’s the scene.

Husband and wife are in the kitchen. The husband notices the Senokot package and says to his wife “Senokot?” She responds telling him that Senokot is a laxative and that sometimes she has constipation.  He responds in a surprised tone “really?” Is he surprised that Senokot is  laxative or that she is constipated? Give me a break people!

Last but not least, we have a media spearheaded by CNN (the domestic side) up in arms that there’s a Russian ELINT ship operating in international waters off our East Coast asking POTUS for a U.S. response.  Please explain the difference between a Russian ship operating in Atlantic international waters or one of our vessels transiting or operating in international waters in the Black Sea? Are these people for real?

Now that I’ve gotten that out of my system I’ll broach the real topic which is setting up your precision rifle.

I get questions from time to time from folks asking for advice on how to improve their rifle’s performance or expressing frustration that they’re not grouping. So this week I’d like to share what I’ve learned over the years.

Unless you can afford to spend $10,000 on a precision rifle and high priced optic you can be assured that Remington, Savage and Ruger produce excellent rifles right off the shelf. The performance issues usually come from things like not having action screws properly torqued, scope mounts misaligned on the receiver top, scope rings not properly torqued and last but certainly not least you the shooter.

We’ve all heard that you need to have the centerline of your optic as close to the bore’s centerline as possible. This is a rule of thumb! Setup your rifle so that it works for your physical characteristics. I’ve seen shooters that need to stretch their necks out like turkeys to get proper eye relief, others scrunch their faces down on the buttstock because they installed low rings or mounts. The most important thing you can do to produce good results is to have a rifle configuration that fits you and allows you to sit comfortably behind the gun. If you are feeling any physical stress or discomfort you’ll never achieve consistent results.  Try it and let me know if you see improvement!

Thanks for visiting with us and have a great weekend. Spend some quality time with you your buds and family it’s time well spent.

Effective Small Arms Suppression

World Conflict Films posted a video that provides the viewer with a look of what it’s like to be on the receiving end of suppression fire. What was missing is your opponent trying to roll up your flank while your head is down This guys was in dire need of air support. Good video!

Published on Feb 13, 2017

The following video shows a Shia militia fighter of the Iraqi Popular Protection Units (PPU) being accurately engaged by Islamic State fighters in northern Iraq. Several rounds strike the sandbag fortifications near his head. A few rounds even rip through. The militiaman knows that if he exposes his head, it will be removed by hostile fire, so he is only able to ineffectively blind fire back in the general direction of his foe. The incoming suppressive fire doesn’t strike the fighter, yet the man is still rendered useless in the ongoing gun battle.

HOGUE KNIVES ANNOUNCES FOUR INCH AUTOMATICS

Hogue Knives announced the addition of four inch automatic knives to their popular line of American-made folding knives. The new autos are spring-loaded four inch versions of Hogue’s popular EX-01 and EX-04 tactical folding knives.

“We’ve worked hard to create an incredibly reliable automatic knife based on our button lock knife platform,” said Hogue managing partner Jim Bruhns. “Adding four inch blades to our automatic line will satisfy demand from those wanting the same reliable cutting tool but in a larger variety.”

The key to the Hogue auto knife’s reliability and performance, explained Bruhns, has been its proprietary music wire spring, developed specifically for Hogue Knives by famed spring maker Wolff Gunsprings. “We’re delivering an automatic knife that will last for years,” said Bruhns. “It will fire with the same authority on the first or the 10,000th deployment.” Fast blade deployment, a rock-solid lockup, precision engineering and extreme reliability under all conditions are hallmarks of the Hogue auto knife.

PROOF Research Achieves AS9100 Aerospace Management Standard Certification

Columbia Falls, Montana – As part of its commitment to quality and to implementing the highest standards in its products, production process, and daily operations, PROOF Research has earned AS9100 certification. This certification-considered the quality-management gold standard in the aerospace industry-is a widely adopted and standardized quality-management system recognized by all major aerospace and defense original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).

“The AS9100 standard applies additional and stricter quality requirements for certified companies in their Sales, Design, Purchasing, and Manufacturing departments. At PROOF, our goal is to continually raise the bar in quality and performance across the board, and the AS9100 certification is a key step in reaching that goal,” said CEO Larry Murphy.

AS9100 certification was developed by the Society of Automotive Engineers and the European Association of Aerospace Industries in 1999. Because certified companies adhere to and comply with AS9100 standards, they are considered “preferred suppliers” for aerospace/defense OEMs. Firms with “preferred supplier” status are typically considered more viable and attractive businesses with which to conduct business in the aerospace/defense industry.

Sneak Preview: Walther’s New Creed 9mm Pistol

For 2017 Walther Arms introduced an impressive new 9mm pistol. If you’re familiar with the company’s superb PPX, the Creed is an offspring from that great gene pool but with some of the bells and whistles omitted to deliver an impressive pistol at an M.S.R.P. of $399.

You get a 16+1 pre-cocked hammered fired pistol with a consistent trigger pull and the same superb Walther quality and ergonomics found across the Walther line.

IDF Lt. Col. (Ret) Mickey Hartman and the MH1 Weapon Sight

DSC_1568

You would be hard pressed to find a more likeable and gregarious individual than IDF Lt. Col. (Ret) Mickey Hartman; for me, every encounter with Mickey has been a learning experience and he loves to teach. Were I to serve with the man “Professor” would soon be his handle. While at Shot Show 2017, I had an opportunity to spend time with Mickey, the developer of the Hartman MH1 combat sight.

The MH1 is an industry first in numerous ways. First, the MH1 has two power sources, an internal battery rechargeable via a USB port and a backup CR123 which is in the circuit and ready to take up the load should the internal battery fail or is depleted.  Second, the MH1 comes with a band that installs around the handguards and using a wireless connection allows the operator to change reticle brightness and perform other functions. A third feature and one Mickey demonstrated is the MH1’s very near zero parallax. This is achieved by an internal mechanical collimating system that allows adjustment of the distance between the LED and the aspheric lens. The MH1 is also configurable using a laptop or desktop via the sight’s USB port – reticle brightness,  reticle illumination timeout and battery saving options are all configurable. Last but not least, the MH1 has internal accelerometers that detect weapon engagement motions, such as shouldering the weapon, to wake the sight up from a battery saver mode. Other nice features include an integrated QD mount and a housing profile that allows access to the rear mounted controls, even with a magnifier installed.

The MH1 is an impressive sight with more industry firsts than I care to count. The sight was years in development and reflects Mickey Hartman’s 22 years of experience in the IDF. You’ll want to check this sight out…

EOTech VUDU 1- 6X 24mm Precision Rifle Scope

DSC_1552

DSC_1550

At this year’s Shot Show, I finally got the opportunity to take a close look at EOTech’s Vudu 1-6X24mm rifle scope.  EOTech makes the 1-6 x 24 Vudu in 3 models, the SR-1, SR-2 and SR-3; the difference being reticle patterns and click values. The SR-1 is a mil-mil optic wit a 0.2 MRAD click value and the SR-2 and SR-3 are both MOA with a 0.5 MOA click value. I was hoping to see EOTech offer a reticle calibrated for the 300 BLK with hold points for the 220gr subsonic loads but no cigar! The 1-6 magnification is ideal for the 300 BLK load so if we keep our fingers crossed or bug the product manager sufficiently we could see one late 2017, or just in time for a SHOT 2018 announcement.

The Vudu is a true 1x optic that keeps the ubiquitous illuminated circle dot at the 1x magnification. There’s only two ways to run this optic and those are 1x for CQC/CQB and 6X for all other shooting.

The glass clarity is excellent as is color rendition. The all important tactile feel for the elevation and wind turrets are also first class.  I couldn’t conduct a box test so I can’t speak to Vudu’s tracking but here I rely on EOTech’s world class experience in the production of combat optics.

At it’s price point of $1399, EOTecch’s Vudu 1-6 x 24 has considerable competition so we’ll need to see how it all shakes out in the market place. However, I will say  that adding one to your AR or 3 gun kit is not a poor decision.

JUST IN CASE YOU THOUGHT THE GAME IS NOT RIGGED…

Image result for card up a sleeveWell, we made it through another week and that’s always a good thing. I’m still in mourning over the Super Bowl. In ten minutes I watched the Atlanta Falcons turn a 25 point lead into a 6 point loss. It was like watching a boxer take a swan dive to the mat, but alas this is not the rigged game we’re going to discuss in this week’s shoot the shit topic.

Undoubtedly you are all aware of POTUS’ executive order (EO) placing a 90 day moratorium on the issuance of entry visas for foreign nationals originating from Iraq, Syria, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen. It’s consumed the airwaves and cable channels to the point of nausea. The more depressing issue is that the majority of news outlets probably never even read the order before declaring it racist. So we’d like to present you our executive summary.

The President’s executive order calls for:

  1. A 90 moratorium on the issuance of entry visas to foreign nationals origination from 7 countries determined by the FBI and intelligence communities to represent a risk to national security.

  2. Within that 90 day period, it tasks the State Department, DHS and DNS with developing a list of information needed to properly vet individuals seeking visas from the aforementioned 7 countries.

  3. Once a list has been submitted and reviewed by the White House, the EO tasks the Secretary of State to communicate those minimum requirements to the countries impacted by the EO.

  4. Foreign nationals from countries that comply with those requirements will have their visa applications processed. Nationals from countries that do not or can not comply with the requirements will not be able to apply for entry visas.

  5. It also tasks State Department, DHS and DNI to produce reports that address compliance and other administrative issues.

  6. The executive order also addresses the refugee program and places a 120 day moratorium on admitting refuges from the 7 countries designated.

  7. The EO tasks the State Dept., DHS, DNI and the FBI to produce a list of minimum requirements needed to properly vet individuals seeking refugee status from the impacted countries.

  8. The President’s order also authorizes the State Department to expedite the processing of refugee status for individuals that can identify as a persecuted minority religious group. This part of the President’s  EO is not exclusive to Christian groups. It applies to ALL nationals of the designated countries. There’s a total of 73 sects in Islam with Shea and Sunni being majority sects in the Middle East. Those Muslims in minority sects that identify as being persecuted are also eligible for expedited processing. Try being a Zarathustran in Iran!

  9. The EO limits the admissions of refugees to 50,000 for Fiscal Year 2017.

  10. Lastly, the EO tasks the FBI and any other agency partners to expedite the selection and implementation of biometric data collection.

Nothing in this order mentions Christianity, Judaism or Islam. In fact we’ll go as far as to suggest that anyone suggesting that the EO discriminates against Muslims is a functional illiterate, moron or prevaricator. The later being the more likely case.

The State of Washington alleges that many of the high-tech companies are harmed by the travel ban. These are the same companies that pioneered and sell video teleconferencing, online training, and global online purchases. Readers, software developers can write code remotely then using the IP infrastructure push that software into production; they can also test software remotely! So where is the impact Washington State? Folks, we live in a techno-social environment where sexual intercourse is the only thing requiring physical proximity. I’m not an attorney but Washington States’ law suit seems to have no legal basis; and quite frankly,  I’m amazed how  Judge James Robart arrived at his decision. The State of Washington, currently under siege by liberal progressives, initiated a baseless action for the expressed purpose of placing the executive order into the hands of the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, a traditionally activist court, to undermine the President’s national security initiatives. You can look forward to this same strategy being used to undermine 2nd Amendment issues or any other cause that does not conform to blind uninformed liberalism.

In closing, we’d like to leave you with a final thought. Newton’s 1st Law of Motion tells us that mass in motion will remain in motion or mass at rest will remain at rest unless acted on by an unbalancing force. The later best describes our law makers to a T. From our perspective, we are lucky to have a President in the White House who is willing to set protocol aside in order to act as that unbalancing force.

As with all shoot the shits, you are free to make unsupported comments, use uncensored profanity, insult anyone you wish or change the subject altogether. Have a great weekend! Be safe and enjoy some quality time with your buds and family.

Readers desiring to read the EO’s original text see it below…

Ritter & Stark GmbH Exhibiting the Future of Tactical Rifles at IDEX 2017

Ritter & Stark GmbH will exhibit the SX-1 Modular Tactical Rifle at the 2017 International Defence Exhibition and Conference (IDEX) in Abu Dhabi.

Feistritz, Austria (February 2017) – Ritter & Stark GmbH, an Austrian-based firearms design and manufacturing company, will be exhibiting its SX-1 Modular Tactical Rifle (MTR) at IDEX in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, Feb. 19-23, 2017 in the Austrian Pavilion, No. 07-D18. IDEX is the only international defence event in the Middle Eastern and North African (MENA) region where companies can demonstrate the latest technologies for land, sea and air defence sectors.

The SX-1 MTR is precision perfected. The world’s top firearms engineers and designers have used the latest manufacturing processes and most technologically advanced materials to create the SX-1 MTR, a rifle that can be customized to fit the mission and the user, as well as delivering punishing performance, shot after accurate shot.

The SX-1 MTR long-range precision rifle is an ideal weapon platform for military and law enforcement agencies, as well as serious competitors and shooters. The SX-1 MTR can quickly and easily change calibers between a .308 Win, .300 Win Magnum and a .338 Lapua Magnum. The MIL-STD 1913 Picatinny rail is installed directly on the barrel, allowing the user to interchange barrels with pre-set scopes without a loss of zero. The patented caliber conversion system assures that the barrel is precisely positioned in the machined aluminum receiver, allowing for a greater area of contact, resulting in increased stability. The bolt also locks directly into the barrel breech which gives the SX-1 MTR unprecedented accuracy.

Additionally, other features on the SX-1 MTR make it attractive to law enforcement, military operators and serious shooters. The SX-1’s modularity allows the utilization of different aftermarket magazines, triggers and grips.

Ritter & Stark barrels are guaranteed 100 percent accuracy to at least leading in industry 5,000 rounds for .308Win and .338LM and 2,000 rounds for .300WM. Ritter & Stark’s SX-1 MTR’s accuracy is factory proven to be a consistent 0.5 MOA with 3-round groups or better using factory match grade ammunition.

Visit Ritter & Stark at IDEX and see its revolutionary rifle systems at the Austrian Pavilion, No. 07-D18. For sales appointments during the exhibition, please contact Alexander Chikin at +43 664 88 5456 41. For media appointments, contact Laura Burgess at +1 252-288-5805.

Revision Aids In Counterfeit Sting Operations At Two Tradeshows, Resulting In Multiple Arrests

39ca34b1-dd25-450d-a4ca-1589c25b12d2Essex Junction, Vermont (Feb. 2, 2017) – Since the Revision-aided sting operation at last year’s SIA Snow Show in Denver, Colorado, Revision has elevated company efforts to eradicate counterfeit Revision products from the market. Revision is a world leader in integrated, purpose-built soldier solutions; all of the Company’s protective eyewear has consistently and unequivocally exceeded global military-grade testing requirements and has been proven in action around the world. Accordingly, Revision views counterfeit products as a direct threat to the integrity of the Company and, more importantly, to Revision customers, who depend on the high standards and protection of authentic Revision gear. Revision maintains all intellectual property rights on all Revision products-rights that are total and international.

“Revision will take aggressive, unflinching action to eliminate any and all counterfeit operations,” said Jonathan Blanshay, CEO of Revision. “It should be perfectly clear that Revision will not tolerate any counterfeit products that essentially duplicate Revision’s designs but not quality on the market-period. We created these products and it is simply unacceptable to have low-level con artists steal our property and profit from it, especially at the expense of our end-users-the soldiers and police who protect us each and every day.

“Revision will take any and all actions within our power to put a forceful and immediate stop to illegal counterfeit businesses and illicit knockoff products, using every legal means at our disposal to prosecute offenders with extreme prejudice.Revision has invested tens of millions of dollars in designing, manufacturing, testing and certifying our industry leading products, and we will not tolerate the outright theft of our intellectual property. Revision’s mission is to provide the very best protection to soldiers and we will stamp out anyone who attempts to undermine that promise to global warfighters. Revision will relentlessly pursue offenders and will not stop until all involved are brought to justice and put behind bars.”

This week, Revision again aided law enforcement in two successful sting operations against alleged counterfeit eyewear distributors. This is the second consecutive year that Revision has aided in a significant sting operation. This year, Revision, working in conjunction with the Dearborn and Ohio County Prosecutor’s Office in Indiana, aided in the execution of sting operations at two separate trade show events- Jan. 18 at SHOT Show in Las Vegas, Nevada, and Jan. 26 at the SnowSports Industries America (SIA) Snow Show in Denver, Colorado-resulting in multiple arrests.

Warrants were issued for owners of two companies: Airsoft Wholesaler, Inc. (a California-based company trading as “Lancer Tactical”) and Guangzhou Yijia Optical Technique Co. Ltd. (a company based in Guangzhou, China trading as “PTide”). Both companies are accused of selling unauthorized counterfeit versions of Revision Military’s Desert Locust goggles, and “Lancer Tactical” is also accused of selling imitation versions of Revision Military’s Bullet Ant goggles. Revision has tested samples of products distributed by these companies and has verified that the counterfeit goggles from both manufacturers fail ANSI testing, EN166 anti-fog testing, MIL-PRF-32432 abrasion testing, and have V50 ballistic values well below Revision product standards.

Changqing Chen (aka Chang Chen), co-owner of “Lancer Tactical” was arrested on the trade show floor at SHOT Show in Las Vegas; the other co-owner, Changying Chen (aka Lily Chen), is still at large. The representatives of “PTide”-owner Chen Jiajun (aka Jiajun Chen) and sales manager Zhang Ping (aka Ping Zhang)-were both arrested on the SIA trade show floor in Denver. All four individuals face six felony charges: corrupt business influence, conspiracy to commit corrupt business influence, theft, conspiracy to commit theft, counterfeiting and conspiracy to commit counterfeiting.

Last April, Revision’s Senior Director of Legal and Governmental Affairs, Greg Maguire, testified before a Senate Judiciary Committee investigating the impact of foreign counterfeiters, making numerous appeals and proposing concrete steps to representatives to curtail widespread illegal counterfeit operations. Additionally, Revision employs a full-time member of the Legal department staff dedicated to researching and tracking counterfeit manufacturers, distributors and exhibitors.

Revision strongly recommends only purchasing from approved distributors and retailers. Visit Revision’s website for a full list of Revision vendors. To ensure customer safety, if there is any doubt about the authenticity of a product that is marked with Revision’s logo, or resembles a Revision product, please contact Revision directly to verify. For additional information, please contact Greg Maguire,gmaguire@revisionmilitary.com, or, Dearborn and Ohio County Prosecutor, Lynn Deddens, ldeddens@dearbornohioprosecutor.com. The fact that the defendants have been charged with crimes are merely allegations and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Above: Jiajun Chen and Ping Zhang, owner and sales manager, respectively, of “PTide” (exhibiting as “Guangzhou Yijia Optical Technique Co. Ltd”), were arrested on the trade show floor at this week’s SIA Snow Show in Denver, Colorado.

Above: Authentic Revision Desert Locust (bottom left) and Bullet Ant (top right) goggles offer military-grade protection and performance for troops around the world.

Is it Time To Review The International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) ?

41esvNAZmKL._AC_UL320_SR214,320_It’s Friday and time for our weekly (most of the time) shoot the shit topic. It’s that time of the week when readers can express unsupported opinions, use profanity, insult anyone you wish or change the subject altogether. This week’s topic is ITAR otherwise know as International Traffic in Arms Regulations.

Some background on ITAR…

Section 38 of the Arms Export Control Act (22 U.S.C. 2778), as amended, authorizes the President to control the export and import of defense articles and defense services. The statutory authority of the President to promulgate regulations with respect to exports of defense articles and defense services is delegated to the Secretary of State by Executive Order 13637. These regulations are primarily administered by the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Defense Trade Controls, Bureau of Political-Military Affairs.

The items designated by the Secretary of State for purposes of export and temporary import control constitute the U.S. Munitions List. If you are in a business covered by entries in the U.S. Munition List you are then required to obtain licenses, secure authorization and request permissions to export your product.

My concern rests primarily with Category I, II and III of the U.S. Munitions List because it hits domestic firearms manufacturers, manufacturers of accessories, suppressors, optics manufactured to mil-spec and others. Furthermore, you as an individual are prohibited from traveling outside of the country with a legally purchased item that by whim made its way to the U.S. Munitions List. Let me give you an example. If you have a hunting rifle with an optic designed to military specifications, and you travel outside of the country for a hunting trip, you are in violation of ITAR regulations.

ITAR regulations are extreme, to the extent they prevent many of our outstanding established and young companies from competing in the global market place stifling their growth. They are also outside the legislative process so they can be used by administrations hostile to the industry. I can understand export regulations of strategic technologies and their components, but why a pistol grip, magazine, rifle barrel or magnified optic should be restricted is beyond me. Ridiculous!

So we think it’s high time to take a close look at ITAR regulations and bring them back to reality so they properly serve national security interests but not stifle our domestic firearms industry by keeping them from competing on the global market. To that end, we ask our readers to speak with your elected officials and encourage them to advance this cause. We’re blessed to have a White House that understands the challenges of growing a business, adding market share and succeeding in the global economy so let’s get it done! Hit @POTUS with some tweets and ask the White House to take ITAR under review.

If you have questions, suggestions or comments send them our way. We love hearing from you and we thank you for your participation. Have a great weekend, be safe and enjoy some quality time with your buds and family.

Parabon NanoLabs Wins Prestigious 2016 Tibbetts Award

DNA Technology Innovator Recognized for Achievements by Small Business Administration

Reston, Va. (31 January 2017) –Parabon NanoLabs (Parabon) announced today its receipt of the 2016 Tibbetts Award, presented by the Small Business Administration (SBA) in honor of small businesses that exhibit excellence in technology innovation. Winners are considered “the best of the best” from the thousands of firms that currently participate in the Federal Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program and are selected for the economic impact of their innovations, and the extent to which their innovations have served federal R&D needs. Parabon received the award, along with other winners, at the SBIR Hall of Fame and Tibbetts Award Ceremony, held Jan. 10 2017 at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building in Washington, D.C.

With assistance from the SBIR program, Parabon has developed and commercialized DNA technologies in both the forensic and therapeutic industries. Starting from SBIR Phase I and Phase II awards from the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA), Parabon developed the Snapshot DNA Phenotyping System, the world’s first software application capable of accurately predicting appearance, ancestry and kinship from forensic DNA samples. Rather than improving on existing capabilities, Parabon innovated in the fields of genetics and computer science to build an entirely new method of analyzing forensic DNA. In the two years since it was first commercialized, Snapshot has been used by over 80 agencies within the law enforcement and counterterrorism communities, with analyses performed on samples from 10 countries.

Separately, SBIR projects with the National Science Foundation, Army Research Office, and Edgewood Chemical Biological Center helped Parabon develop the company’s computer-aided design (CAD) software for nanoengineering DNA constructs, the inSēquio Design Studio.  Now, with funding from the Defense Health Program and the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the company is using inSēquio to design and develop synthetic vaccines, i.e., vaccines created purely through chemical synthesis to avoid the risks associated with traditional attenuated (“live”) vaccines.  The ability to rationally design and produce multifunctional compounds from DNA, where the relative location of each subcomponent is precisely determined, gives Parabon and its customers a compelling drug and diagnostic development advantage.

“We are honored to receive the Tibbetts Award and grateful to the government agencies that have believed in our capabilities.  The award serves as recognition of our long-term efforts to innovate at the intersection of DNA technology and high-performance computing,” said Dr. Steven Armentrout, CEO of Parabon.  “It’s also a testament to the energy and creativity our entire team brings to their work,” he added.  Paula Armentrout, VP Operations at Parabon said, “The SBIR/STTR program is a wonderful economic development tool and a valuable resource for small businesses.  We owe a special ‘Thank you’ to Virginia’s Center for Innovative Technology (CIT) for making us aware of the SBIR program, and for providing the training and support that helped us succeed.”

DOW at 20,000 + ??

Image result for Dow JonesTGIF! This is our first shoot the shit topic in a month or two. If you were thinking we would discontinue shoot the shits you’re wrong. This is a weekly event (most of the time unless we’re slammed). We like shoot the shits because it gives readers a chance to make any unsupported comments, use profanity, insult anyone they wish or change the subject altogether. A therapist would charge several hundred dollars per hour, more if they are using anonymous therapy and even more if they hit you with subliminal transference. It’s insane, but keep in mind that psychiatrist and psychologists are living proof that free market economies produce sufficient surpluses to support their ass.

Our shoot the shit topic  for today centers around the Dow’s current valuation at over 20,000. I’m reminded of a former colleague’s favorite saying, which I think is appropriate to all of our personal success.

“ Dress British and think Yiddish”

“Buy low and sell high”

If you remember just those two things you will be astronomically successful! Now is the time to seriously consider the later. Here’s our reasoning…

The stock market is being driven by emotion and enthusiasm, for good reason. We have a great President, someone who understands business and what it takes to build a successful enterprise. He also likes to work and boy has he hit the ground running. More importantly, he firmly believes that government’s reason for existence is to benefit its citizens. He is committed to lowering taxes across the board, and even more importantly eliminating counterproductive regulations burdensome to business and business startups. But, who is it that’s winning in this market? It’s the guy selling into the rising market. So, keep that in mind and take your profits as appropriate.

An overpriced market, like what we have now, while good for investors also has a deleterious effect on job creation; here’s why.

Let say that all of your life you’ve wanted to set up shop and sew tactical nylon for sale. You clean out your savings account and you take a 2nd mortgage on your home, and with $200,000, you buy 2 or 3 sewing machines, tables, computers for patterns etc. and start sewing. In many instances you can expect to take a loss on year one, but let’s say that in year two you start to make a little money. Here is how that breaks down on your profit and loss statement.

Gross Sales – Cost of Good Sold = Gross Profit ( depending on the business you’re in, you can expect that to be from 40% – 50%)

Gross Profit – Selling and Administrative Expense = Income before Taxes (depending on the business this could be 2% – 20%)

Now, for a split second, let’s jump back to the market which is up 9.5% since the election in Nov 2016 , this translates to an annual return of 38%

Where should your $200,000 be allocate?

Readers, have a great and safe weekend. Get out to the range and spend some quality time with your friends and families.

MAGNUM BOOTS OPUS MID BOOT

DSC_1614

In December 2016, I reviewed the Opus boot from Magnum Boots. You can read my review here. In the interest of brevity, I won’t repeat what I’ve already discussed in my review but I will summarize by saying these boots are like wearing your athletic shoes, this is the level of comfort you can expect; the added benefit is excellent ankle and heel support.

For 2017, Magnum Boots will be offering the Opus boot in camouflage. These boots sell for $110 and they’re worth every penny. MAGNUM did not have a firm availability but July 2017 is credible.

CORRECTION TO MY BURRIS 1-8 x 24 XTR-II REVIEW OF 17 NOVEMBER 2016

Mid November 2016, I published a review of the Burris 1-8 x 24 XTR-II. In that review, I commented on the turret cap retention mechanism. My comments were factually incorrect. You can read the original review here. My original comments were:

“…One area where a minor modification to the turret system design makes sense is the turret cap retaining screw of the wind turret. Burris used a slotted aluminum retaining screw to secure the turret cap. I’d like to see a transition to a steel or hex fastener. The current retaining screw has a very shallow slot which when combined with its soft aluminum construction can be easily damaged while swapping out turret caps.”

While at Shot Show 2017, I spent some time discussing the issue with Mike from Burris Optics who very patiently and generously enlightened me.

After removing the cap covering the Burris XTR II 1-8×24 windage knob, here is what you see.

image

To zero the scope, you proceed to adjust the wind value. Once your weapon is zeroed, you loosen two set screws, which frees the cap to rotate around the turret so it can be set to “0”. Burris allows you to completely remove the turret cap so you can transition from a covered windage cap to a larger exposed wind adjustment cap.

To remove the cap you need to back out the two set screws far enough so they clear an internal slot machined into the turret assembly. The flat head slot that you see in the picture has nothing to do with cap retention. It is part of the turret assembly and not to be touched.

IWI US Training Division Classes Now Open

New training courses on IWI firearms, Krav Maga and IWI Armorer’s courses now available to civilians and law enforcement.

Harrisburg, Pa. (January 2017)IWI US, Inc., a subsidiary of Israel Weapon Industries (IWI) Ltd., is proud to announce their new Training Division is open for business. IWI US now offers firearms training and Krav Maga courses at the Reveille Peak Ranch in Burnet, Texas and Armorer’s courses at the Harrisburg Area Community College in Pennsylvania.

“Creating a training division built around IWI’s firearms and the Israeli methodology of self-defense was a natural next-step,” stated Michael Kassnar, vice-president of sales & marketing for IWI US. “We’ve been training law enforcement units as they transition to our bullpup platform and we’ve had numerous requests from the civilian market for the same training. Our new, centrally located, Texas facility allows us to provide this training and offer classes year round.”

The new training courses lead by IWI US national law enforcement sales manager, Tom Alibrando, offer civilians and law enforcement professionals an in-depth experience with the TAVOR SAR and Galil ACE platforms, as well as basic knowledge on carbine, pistol and precision rifle platforms. The TAVOR Operator courses are offered in three levels, from the most basic, which brings a new TAVOR owner from little-to-no familiarity with the fundamentals of bullpup shooting to proficiency, to the most advanced, the active level III course that incorporates the knowledge from the two previous courses and adds training in areas like moving from cover to cover, operating in low light as well as firing from unusual shooting positions.

Krav Maga courses are also available at the Texas facility. Krav Maga is the IDF’s hand-to-hand combat technique and offers an alternative method of self-defense when other means of force are not available to the student. IWI US also offers a Krav Maga course specifically designed for women which will be available in the spring of 2017.

The TAVOR SAR/X95 Armorer Training Course held at the Harrisburg Area Community College is open to law enforcement and industry professionals. The course is designed to familiarize students in the basic maintenance, breakdown and conversions for both platforms.
